Displacement Reactions And The Single Displacement Reaction
Introduction
There are two types of displacement reactions : One type is called the single displacement reaction,
the other is called the double displacement reaction. During a single displacement reaction, an element
substitutes another element in a compound, creating a new element and a new compound as products.
In most single displacement reactions, either a metal replaces another metal, or a non metal replaces
another non metal. The more reactive element takes the place of the less reactive element in the
compound, otherwise the reaction will not occur. The general chemical equations of single
displacement can be: A (metal) + BC → AC + B,
A (non metal) + BC → BA + C. Double displacement reaction is a chemical reaction, where the
positive ions of two different chemical compounds exchange and produce two new compounds. The
products may contain a precipitate. The general chemical equation of double displacement is: AB+ CD
→ AD + CB
The purpose of the lab is to observe the reactants and the products of three chemical reactions and
determine which type of reaction occurs in each chemical reaction.
The solubility tables can be used to help better determine the reaction types. The solubility tables refer
to the solubility of ionic compounds in water. By using the solubility tables, we can know whether a
compound is soluble or insoluble.

The Role of Class in Evelina Essay
The Role of Class in Evelina
What is the definition of class ? Burney expresses how class is viewed in the eighteenth century
society through the novel Evelina. In the novel, Burney exposes to the reader different classes of
characters from the aristocrats to the merchants to the commoners and to the prostitutes. Burney also
reveals how different character defines the word class. Madame Duval thinks money and material are
sufficient qualifications to belong to the high society. Mrs. Beaumont believes that a person s class is
set by birth; the social class one is born into defines one s social status. However, Burney seems to
disagree with both of the characters. Through the character of the heroine Evelina, Burney ... Show

He takes his revenge on Evelina as he abashes her in public and accuses her of being ill mannered.
Behind her back, he destroys her reputation by calling her a country nobody (pg35). Upon another
encounter, he twisted her status to toad eater as he deliberately inferiorities her class and describes her
as a companion to Miss Mirvan. Being vicious as he is, He believes that by establish the commonality
of Evelina s social status, she will not be able to be accepted by the elite social class. Not only did
Burney point out the importance of social ranking, she, at the same time, exhibits the ill nature of
those who make use of such information regarding other peoples status to their advantage.
Burney seems to be criticizing the double standard treatment of people who lacks class and those who
has high status. She disapproves the conduct of people in the novel who have the characteristic that
appears to be changing with the tide. Mrs. Beaumont s character is satirically described as the absolute
Court Calendar bigot. (pg. 284) Her idea of class is illustrated by her belief that birth is virtue. Her
previous association with Evelina let her to believe that Evelina is a woman of quality. However, she
is soon disappointed to find out that Evelina is a mere country gentlewoman (pg284). Similarly, Lady
Louisa and many other social elites who reside under the

Nostalgia And Loss In American Beauty
When watching movies, various life lessons or themes can be picked up on that are scattered
throughout the films in subtle ways. Some messages can be picked up instantly while other messages
will make you sit back and think just a bit harder. American Beauty was a film released in 1999 that
was filled with numerous interpretations of which themes can be accounted for. Nostalgia and loss,
and issues with obsession are two themes or issues that stood out when watching the film for the first
time. American Beauty is a drama film directed by Sam Mendes. The film follows sympathetic lead
character, Lester as he lives his boring, mundane life. Lester seems to have the picture perfect life on
the surface of things but that isn t always the case. Lester is an advertising executive and magazine
writer who eventually ends up despising his job. His wife, Carolyn, is a career driven real estate
broker who becomes more obsessed with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the film, there is times when Lester wishes things can go back to the way they were. One scene
during the film Carolyn returns home to find Lester goofing off with a remote control car. Lester
precedes to complement Carolyn and seduce her and talk about fond memories that they have
together. He questions what happened to the girl that would run out on the roof and flash traffic
helicopters and fake seizures. This is just once example of Lester being nostalgic and remembering
how life use to be. Another example of nostalgia within American Beauty in the ending scene of the
movie. Right before Lester died, he took a picture of the family that was sitting in the kitchen and
stared. He was reminiscing about how happy he was with Carolyn and Jane and starting to feel at ease.
Nostalgia makes people forget all their problems and issues for a second and makes them happy once
again just like Lester in the

Nick Saban Research Paper
The University of Alabama s head football coach Nick Saban is hands down the best coach in college
football. He may not be the smartest coach or the greatest motivator, but one thing about him that you
cannot deny is his success. Since 2003, he has dominated college football unlike any of his
predecessors and contemporaries. He s the first to win a national championship with two different
Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools and has coached four national championship teams. His
teams dominate the best college football conference. Saban is more successful than his counterparts
because he way of thinking surpasses others. His work ethic, willingness to prepare, and his approach

LGBTQ Students
What should be done to help the LGBTQ students succeed? The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender,
and Queer student population has continued to face harsh challenges and circumstances throughout
their educational years. Statistics show that 84.9% of LGBTQ students experience verbal harassment
which has ultimately lead to 63.5% of students feeling unsafe in their current school. (McCormick
72). The high rates of harassment, bullying, and discrimination has lead to an increase of depression,
suicide, and the use of drugs. Not only are students being treated unjustly, but they also do not have
the support from their own teachers or counselors. So we ask ourselves, what can be done about the
violence that these students face? Should school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Glsen.org) Statistics show young adults who participated in high school GSAs reported significantly
lower rates of depression and higher rates of educational attainment and self esteem. (McCormick 72).
School counselors have the opportunity to promote change (Jackson 27). Unfortunately, some
counselors are unaware of how to approach some students going through transitional stages. Some
even battle with their own beliefs and biases. After a poll was taken about how students feel speaking
to schools counselors, almost all expressed a lack of trust and had no experiences of relating
emotional/social issues to them. (Jackson 23). When counselors take the step in helping out the
students who are battling issues within themselves the outcome can be beautiful. In one school, a
student came to a counselor depressed and alone. Also being gay, he was shy to open up. When he told
the counselor this she explained to him that , It was her job to listen and offer a helping hand to
students who need support. And, being gay is something to celebrate, being different and unique is a
gift not something to be afraid of. After a year of guidance with his counselor he was able to join with
the SGA group to come before the student body and open up about his truth. Training and resources
being provided to students and counselors has improved the morale amongst student population. A

Academic And Artistic Areas Of The Arts
Nearly everyone accepts the fact that no two students are alike, so why do we, as a society, expect all
students to achieve high marks in the same courses? The arts have long been seen as extra and have
not received the same level of respect as traditional academics like algebra and biology. Music,
painting, and photography, are just as skill based and require similar amounts of time and effort as
their STEM counterparts. The idea that students who do not perform well in academic classes, even
though they excel in the arts, are unintelligent is a false belief. Both academic and artistic areas require
work and practice. Music requires learning how to read notes and how to actually play an instrument
fluidly, memorizing the individual tones created by the different parts of the instrument. Composing
their own music would require a lot of effort and thought as well. Visual arts, like painting and
photography, include their own set of skills and techniques that need to be properly combined in order
to produce varied and visually pleasing work. It is not just having an idea pop into your head and
slapping it onto some paper or snapping a quick photo and printing it out. Studying literature requires
students to think critically and look beyond the surface of the text to find out the more complex ideas
the author wanted to get across. Another factor that needs to be taken into account is style of thinking.
Not everyone s though process is the same. There

In November of 2007, Amanda Knox, native of Seattle, Washington was living in Perugia, Italy with
roommate, Meredith Kercher, native of England. Knox and Kercher were both very smart exchange
students schooling in Italy. While rooming with each other, they inevitably became friend s due to
their alike personalities. While living in Italy, Knox met Raffaele Sollectio and immediately fell in
love. She then began spending much more time with Sollectio and less time with her friend, Meredith.
On November 1st of 2007, the lives of not only Meredith would be impacted, but the entire city of
Perugia. Meredith was found brutally murderd in the floor of her home. But who would be the
murderer? This documentary has convinced me that even though I truly think Amanda is not guilty of

Nontestimonial Hearsay Case Study
Q. What factors from Davis suggest that the evidence would be excluded by the Confrontation
Clause? Hearsay Hearsay is a statement, other than the one made by the declarant testifying in the
court, offered in evidence to prove the truth of the matter asserted. Confrontation Clause Under the
Sixth Amendment, Confrontation Clause provides that in all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall
enjoy the right to be confronted with the witnesses against him. Here, we must first determine if the
dialog during the 911 call in question establishes a testimonial or nontestimonial hearsay.
Nontestimonial hearsay will be subject to the FRE and falls outside of the scope of the
Confrontational Clause protection. Therefore, the provision of the Confrontation Clause would be
inapplicable. Testimonial Statement Statements are testimonial when the circumstances indicate that
there is no ongoing emergency, and that the primary purpose of the interrogation is to establish

place, she expressed her wish twice during the call to get the defendant arrested. Her concerns for the
defendant s return does not give rise to the situation necessarily deemed to be an emergency. These
facts suggest that the purpose of her 911 call was not made in her effort to obtain the police assistance
urgently in resolving the danger that she might have been facing at the time of her call. It was rather to
document the past event. It was for the purpose of reporting the details of the assault that had occurred

Essay about Chernobyl Accident of 1986
In order to understand the Chernobyl accident 1986, we must understand a little bit about the
background of the Chernobyl power complex and the surrounding area. The Chernobyl power
complex sat about 210 miles north of Kiev, Ukraine and somewhere around 32 miles south of the
Belarus border. The power complex consisted of a total of four RBMK 1000 nuclear reactors and at
the time of the accident two more reactors where being built nearby. Reactors one and two were built
between 1970 and 1977. The third and fourth reactors were built in 1983. The plant also consisted of a
man made lake that covered some 35 square miles that was built to supply cooling water to the
reactors. The area around the power complex is described as woodland ... Show more content on

(World Nuclear 2014) Now that we have a basic understanding of how the reactor works we can
further being to understand and track how the accident happen. There were a few factors that cause the
Chernobyl accident. One being that the operators of the power plant took a couple of missteps leaving
one to assume that they were poorly trained in essence to the sequence of events to follow. On 25
April 1986 operators of the plant were planning to test the new voltage regulators. The new regulator
were design to regulate power to test just how long the turbines would spin and supply power during a
loss of power from the main electrical power source. It was suppose to be a part of the routine testing,
but on this day it would turn out to be nothing close to normal routine testing. They attempted this test
the year earlier but the power from the turbine was drained to quickly therefore they need to test the
new regulators. The operators of the plant took some of actions to include disenabling the automatic
shutdown mechanisms before they attempted the test on 26 April. The day of the testing a
distinctiveness in the design of the control rods caused a huge surge in power as they were entered
into the reactor. By the time the operator moved to shut down the reactor it was too late. The reactor
had become extremely unstable. The combination of hot fuel and cooling waters led to

Using A Warrant Should Not Be Allowed Essay
Many cases have been brought to court and are continuing to be brought that say location tracking
without a warrant should not be allowed. The argument most often used is that it is a violation of the
right to privacy. A warrant is not the only way to obtain these records nor should it be. There are valid
reasons that data can be obtained through other methods. The issue is across many platforms of digital
communication but the most prominent and easiest to explain is with cell phones. The use of historical
location tracking data is not a violation of privacy, in fact there is no right to privacy as most
understand the term.
We are tracked almost constantly as participants of todays interconnected world. Every time we
connect to the internet whether it be using a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone that connection
and the traffic passed is tracked. Even the infotainment systems in our cars such as the Onstar system
available in some General Motors vehicles is capable of tracking and in turn reporting out locations.
The IP address of the device used and the addresses connected to are tracked. If location services are
turned on as many applications require to function, then that is tracked as well. Companies collect this
information for many reasons with a major one being to sell targeted ads to us based on where we are
and what we normally do. This is something we agree to as part of the user agreements as often if it is
not agreed to the application will not work or at

The Importance Of Minority Voting
Voters Identification law may suppress minority voting and it may not suppress minority voting. We
have so many different races that enter this country with permission and without. The laws for visiting
or becoming a legal resident in this country is complicated especially because of the terrorist attacks.
Identification laws are necessary in my opinion. It helps identify people, most importantly it helps to
decrease any fraudulent activities in this country. I can say if it has anything to do with racial and
ethnic minorities, maybe it s a coincidence that majority of African Americans and Hispanic have less
access to photo IDs, some of us are not legal citizens, or maybe not. The law complicates everything
in general for good reasons so they feel. I can understand what the research and studies demonstrates,
about the decrease in minority audience and increase Republican Party turnouts. I do believe if you
have a higher mindset you can attain all things that seem impossible. I know firsthand how difficult it
is for African Americans to register to vote without an ID, the law won t even to let you register if its
expired. So what the law has gotten strict, so what, that should motivate African Americans and other
races in this country to push through any obstructions to get an ID so they can be apart in making
changes in this society. I know African Americans went through what may have seem like Hell but
they overcame it and contribute to adding Amendments, why go through

What Is The Role Of The Press Or Incarceration In La...
Dominating the new technology and maneuvering the lines of freedom of press and censorship,
champion print satirist and publisher Charles Philipon brought the government to its knees with his
caricatures resembling King Louis Phillipe. In addition, as the leader of the French satirical press with
his journals, La Caricature and of Le Charivari, Charles Philipon set the precedent of the political and
social tone of the press in France throughout the July Monarchy. Le Charivari was Philipon s weekly
illustrated magazine that was published for nearly ninety five years beginning in 1932. After the
establishment of hefty fines, Philipon decided to produce social commentary. On the other hand, La
Caricature, a weekly satirical journal ran between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the first five years of the July Monarchy, fines and the chance of incarceration plagued the
press, however, according to Gabriel Weisberg in the article, The Coded Image: Agitation in
Caricature, the government reached its breaking point in 1935. He stated that they reacted by
restricting the freedom on the press, which had been bitterly won in the Revolution of 1830, through
the institution of censorship control invoked by the September Laws . These laws regulated the press
and banned all criticism of King Louis Phillipe and constitutional monarchy. Although Charles
Philipon and Honoré Daumier were not the sole components of the censorship, for hundreds of
talented satirists flooded France with political commentary, Philipon and Daumier s work was
exponentially influential to kindling ideas of discontent that were potent to the monarchy. Despite the
artist s initial disregard of imposed fines and police confiscation, the implication of significant
punishment, artists were forced to be extremely careful about their themes . As a result, satire began to
move away from its traditional political nature and began lampooning issues regarding social classes.
With the help of Philipon s Soap Bubbles, The Replastering, and Les Poires and Daumier s Gargantua,
the reception and distribution of the political satire and caricature during the July Monarchy was
blacklisted from popular culture. Fast forward less than two centuries, although Louis Phillipe and the
July Monarchy attempted to distinguish political satire and caricatures for good, cartoonists
throughout the world continue to rival against their government to comment on their leader s
appearance, failed promises, and

Chinese Culture And Western Culture In Child Rearing
Introduction
Culture is a set of values that are ingrained in human beings from birth. They define our actions, our
view of what is good, fair, and just, and shape the way we live our lives. The definition of cross
cultural values and beliefs is that of where people from different countries or regions interact, bringing
their different values, viewpoints, and practices unique to their culture (Dictionary, 2017). In this
literature review, we will analyze the differences between Chinese and Western culture in child
rearing, with a focus on the impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts,
how children accommodate or resist those socialization efforts, and finally, we will discuss the
implications for parents and teachers.
Socializing behavior is defined as behavior enacted towards children, or in the presence of children, to
induce or shape their behavior or understanding of behavior (LeCuyer Zhang, 2015).
The impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts
The Chinese culture is known for its collectivism with focus on group success over personal success,
and hierarchal authority where children are expected to obey parents, teachers, and other authorities in
power. This style is characterized by attempts to shape and control the child according to absolute
standards, with a high value of obedience to authoritative figures (Lieber, Fung, Wing Leung Leung,
2006). Chinese people, in general, are more willing to

Literary Theory Lens
Everyman, by the anonymous writer, is a play that can truly be analyzed under a literary theory lens.
Everyman can be analyzed under a performance theory lens, not only because it is a play, but also that
the actions of the character fall within the several categories of the theory. The play can be seen as
following the structure of the religious ritual while following Everyman through his completion of the
sacraments. Secondly, Everyman encounters many sacred characters, including, Death, God, and an
Angel. The characters portray performing objects in which throughout the play these characters are
personified. The characters are personified as human companies to Everyman, although they are
actually a part of him taking on the role of seven deadly sins the characters portray different influences

National and regional HDRs aiming to address varying categories of threats and values can use the
human security approach in analyzing the topic. Previous reports based on the human security
approach have, for example, dealt with social exclusion, modernization and climate change; they have
used examples where the State has been a threat; or explored possible future threats. Human security
is a flexible approach and can be tailored to different contexts and topics, according to the specific
context. No matter which topic is addressed, a guiding principle of the human security approach is that
it requires understanding the particular threats experienced by particular groups of people, as well as
the participation of those people in the analysis process. Threats to human security can exist at all
levels of development. They can emerge slowly and silently or appear suddenly and dramatically.
Central to the approach is the idea that people have the right to live in freedom and dignity, free from
poverty and despair... with an equal opportunity to enjoy all their rights and fully develop their human
potential. 3

Religious Philosophies and the Meaning of Life
All throughout history philosophers, politicians, and religious leaders have pondered the meaning of
life. 20th century philosopher Albert Camus found that it Western society was far too focused on
substance rather than understanding that it is the search for actualization or the process as opposed to
the destination that provides the true meaning of life (Camus, 1942). Still others, Friedrich Nietzsche,
for instance, found that it was suffering in its literal sense, or the process of undergoing, that defined
the meaning of life. This was the ultimate search for freedom and actualization intellectual and
emotional satisfaction (Nietzsche, 2004). Taking this view further, it seems as if the 21st century as
brought the challenge of overcoming one s base instincts and striving for more, to be any kind of a
person, one s life must have a unity to it, the continuity and coherence which comes from constructing
one s life as a work of art (Young, 2003, 117). Karl Marx called religion the opiate of the masses, in
that it both numbs and comforts people, but really leaves them in a perpetual state of confusion and
falsehoods. Yet it is primarily religion that humans turn to when facing questions about the meaning of
life.
It is interesting, too, that this idea of the meaning of life has ingrained in so very many parts of culture
popular, spiritual, and philosophical. There was a full screen movie called Monty Python s Meaning of
Life that examined the question from a humorous

A Discussion On Sexuality And Sexually Transmitted...
The end of this week marks another week down which leaves only two more to go. With this week
coming to a close, I am another step to closing out my bachelors and hopefully starting my Masters in
Cybersecurity with Excelsior in October. Despite the heavy workload with class I think this will be a
good preparation for me as I get myself in the frame of mind to start on the Masters. However, I have
to first make it through these last two weeks. This week focused was on sexually transmitted
infections/diseases and sexual development throughout life. As usual, there were multiple
assignments. We had our normal issue from the Taking Sides text, though it was only one this week, a
discussion on sexuality in later life, the quiz and this wonderful three page reflection paper.
Additionally our annotated bibliography was due this week. As usual, I will start with this week s
reading from the Taking Sides text. This week was slightly different in that we were given only one
topic to read and discuss. The article discussed opposing views on whether or not sexting was
considered safe sex. For my initial opinion on the topic, it seemed obvious to me that it was not a form
of safe sex. In my mind people would have to be able to physically touch one another to actually have
sex. Sexting is no different than reading an adult magazine or watching an adult movie or better yet
phone sex. In essence you are doing it as a prelude to masturbation or in lieu of actually having sex.

throughout Asia. Buddhism is rooted in the three elements known as the Three Jewels : the Buddha,
the Dharma, and the Sangha. Through these elements, followers practice meditation and self control in
order to reach the state of enlightenment, or nirvana. The religion was pioneered by The Buddha,
whose last reincarnation was named Siddhartha in Nepal around 600 B.C.E. He was a human who
transcended to a state of enlightenment, understanding and practicing the three elements of Buddhism.
Unlike the main figure in many other world religions, Buddha did not deem himself God or a prophet,
but just a regular man who learned the teachings of nonviolence, inner peace, and balance. Siddhartha
was born as a prince and lived a lavish life growing up. However he eventually realized that his life
would not be fulfilled by material belongings, and abdicated his position. Siddhartha went on to study
meditation and yoga, eventually reaching enlightenment. The pervasiveness and inevitability of
suffering in human life was a main topic contemplated by Buddha throughout his life. The sources of
suffering are key in the path to enlightenment, and Buddha realized this in his quest to enlightenment
as well. These topics, among other core teachings of Buddhism, are substantiated and outlined by the
experiences of the last Buddha.
One of the most core topics explored by Buddhism, the pervasiveness and

Single-Proton Research Paper
The neutron is a subatomic particle, symbol n or n0 , with no net electric charge and a mass slightly
larger than that of a proton. Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms. Since protons and
neutrons behave similarly within the nucleus, and each has a mass of approximately one atomic mass
unit, they are both referred to as nucleons.[5] Their properties and interactions are described by
nuclear physics.
The chemical and nuclear properties of the nucleus are determined by the number of protons, called
the atomic number, and the number of neutrons, called the neutron number. The atomic mass number
is the total number of nucleons. For example, carbon has atomic number 6, and its abundant carbon 12
isotope has 6 neutrons, whereas its rare carbon 13 isotope has 7 neutrons. Some elements occur in
nature with only one stable isotope, such as fluorine. Other elements occur with many stable isotopes,
such as tin with ten stable isotopes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neutrons are required for the stability of nuclei, with the exception of the single proton hydrogen
atom. Neutrons are produced copiously in nuclear fission and fusion. They are a primary contributor
to the nucleosynthesis of chemical elements within stars through fission, fusion, and neutron capture
processes.
The neutron is essential to the production of nuclear power. In the decade after the neutron was
discovered by James Chadwick in 1932,[6] neutrons were used to induce many different types of
nuclear transmutations. With the discovery of nuclear fission in 1938,[7] it was quickly realized that,
if a fission event produced neutrons, each of these neutrons might cause further fission events, etc., in
a cascade known as a nuclear chain reaction.[8] These events and findings led to the first self
sustaining nuclear reactor (Chicago Pile 1, 1942) and the first nuclear weapon (Trinity,

Business Strategy And Look At The Progress Of Achieving...
I would review our corporate strategy and look at the progress of achieving our objectives. I would
assign a team to analyze our current processes and evaluate them in order to discover areas that are
doing well and areas that require improvement. We could then decide how to solve these problems
while also continuing to reach our objectives. I would employ constraint management and the theory
of constraints in order to identify factors that are limiting our systems performance and are restricting
output. The theory of constraints would be utilized to increase our profits by improving and speeding
up workflow. A team would be assembled to manage constraints and adjust the processes to be less
constrained with shorter setup times. The Drum buffer rope system can help regulate and control flow
so production does not get backed up and the manufacture of our soup and cracker products can run
more efficiently. Since we are adding new soups, we need to make product mix decisions such as how
many cans of each soup should be produced at any given time. The contribution margin, or the amount
each product contributes to profits and overhead, is important to making product mix decisions. The
cash cow products should be favored and run more often in order to increase profits. Rebalancing the
assembly line is necessary because we have a new product, chicken noodle soup, so we need to plan
our schedules to include this new product and its setup times, cost, number sold and

Shell Petroleum Discovery Of Nigeria Essay
Introduction
In 1956, Shell Petroleum discovered oil in commercial quantity in Nigeria. Within a decade, oil
exploration speedily replaced agriculture as the mainstay of the country s economy. In 2006, roughly
97 percent of exchange revenue and about 80 percent of all government expenditures came from
petroleum proceeds . The Niger Delta region is located at the southernmost part of Nigeria and
comprises of nine states; Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Rivers State, Abia, Imo and
Ondo states. The region constitutes 7.5% of Nigeria s land mass, yet it is the nerve center of Nigeria s
oil industry as it produces 100% of its oil and gas and generates more than 80% of all revenues . Aside
the Niger Delta s huge fossil fuel reserves, its numerous rivers, streams and fertile lands make fishing,
farming and hunting the major economic activities of the natives .
While the region is the nerve center for the oil industry, approximately 69 percent of the residents
lives in an abject poverty and squalor. How can logic explain a highly productive region becoming a
theater to acute economic deprivation? To answer the question, there is a need to understand how oil
corporations conduct business in the area. One must appreciate the intricate relationship among the
federal government, the oil corporations and the Niger Deltans.
The paper s intent is to demonstrate that oil producing communities in Nigeria are adversely affected
by oil exploration. The first part

Descriptive Essay On A Haunted Ghost
Everybody knows that if you want to bump into ghosts then it s a good idea to go to a very haunted
location or to a cemetery. Well for the non believers all I can say is until you actually experience an
encounter with spirits I can just tell you about them. New Orleans, Louisiana has a very haunted
cemetery and residents, visitors and even paranormal investigators look upon this cemetery as the
most haunted cemetery in the world and the number 1 haunted cemetery in the U.S. Here you ll find
the haunted grave of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau. I would love to explore this cemetery because I
have a strong sixth sense and my family all have had encounters with spirits at one time or another.
New Orleans had problems with burials before modern drainage was introduced due to the high water
table. As a result of which you dug a grave in marshy ground and buried the dead then when the next
great storm came the corpse would just float on out. The solution to this was to bury people above
ground in tombs and mausoleums and cemeteries had some real architectural wonders to admire in the
older cemeteries. St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 is the oldest in New Orleans and has an impressive

Greek Theatre And Medieval Drama
Greek Theatre and Medieval Drama: Distant Siblings Greek theatre and medieval drama were both
very popular artistic events in their own periods of performance. However, from ancient Greece to the
renaissance, time has set them apart in terms of methodology; their practitioners use a creative process
based off of different mindsets. Therefore, the significant time lapse between the two genres has had
an evident impact on the way theatre was perceived and presented. In comparing aspects such as
religious motivations, conditions of violence and character development, the distinct theatrical natures
of Greek theatre and medieval drama will be made apparent. Though both genres of theatre are closely
tied to religion, Greek theatre and medieval drama have different religious motivations that impact the
ways in which the theatrical event is utilized. In Greece, theatre was used to entertain or please the
Gods, more specifically the God Dionysus, during the most important of the four Athenian festivals:
the Great Dionysia. The first known Greek playwrights, such as Thespis and Euripides, were chosen to
compete in the festival and submit three tragedies and one satyr play to be performed in front of
approximately 15,000 spectators. In classical Greece, theatre was the center of citizenship and society;
religious ideologies towards Dionysus were not only realized by performances, but strongly
encouraged by the state. For example, if a citizen could not afford to attend the

Essay on Higher Security at College Football Games
College football is a major part of many peoples lives, especially here in the South. Whether we or
someone we know is an alumni, we plan to go there in the future we think the uniforms are cute, or
whatever reason, we always have one favorite team we cheer for. sometimes fans of a team will wear
a shirt with the team s logo and that is as far as their loyalty goes. Others may attend a few games a
season, but there are also those die hard fans that never miss a game or always tailgating, screaming at

A huge part of going to college football games is tailgating. People always enjoy the fellowship, food,
and for some, alcohol before watching the game. Colleges could raise the cost of the tailgating spots
slightly and make a huge amount of money. Raising the cost of a tailgating spot is yet another way just
a small amount from everyone adds up to make a huge difference for the school.
The football teams already have several companies sponsoring them, but finding more companies to
give money to the football programs would not be difficult at all. Sponsoring the team helps a
company s business and if spectators know their safety from tighter security was paid for by a certain
company, their business would increase even more. Once the idea is proposed to companies, gaining
more sponsors, and therefore more money for security, would be a breeze.
I personally love going to games. I always have so much fun, but I have also seen fans be entirely too
competitive. It is a scary feeling not knowing if something were to happen or even worse, if something
did happen, would there be security to help before myself or someone else gets hurt. I speak not only
for myself, but for all the other football fans like me when I say having tighter security on campus
during a game would lift a heavy burden off of our shoulders and make us feel a whole lot safer.
Paying for the extra security would be no problem, either with an

Human Security And The Security Of A State
When it comes to the security of a state, more traditional perspectives place security of the state above
the security of its people. A direct opposition would be a less traditional perspective that the state
should protect its most valuable asset, the people. Before comparing human security topics and
traditional security topics, both must be explained because incorporation of human security to
traditional security values causes mass tension. In the most basic of definitions, human security is
keeping the people free from any ridicule, discrimination or terror that they may encounter. While
human security is key to the function of a state, the issue should not be implemented to be covered by
traditional security topics. Security as a whole, should be more specific to state security and human
security. Security of one should not trump nor take away from the security of another. Both the state
and the people or co dependant and the safety of both is key to the progression of a state.
These contradictory perspectives create tension between the state and the people making security
decisions very difficult. The inability to determine a distinction between hard security, a more
fundamental and more access based way of security. This applies to the intricate system of encryption
and data restrictions that the state enforces. A soft security standpoint would apply to more awareness
bases ways of providing security. Soft security uses the people as its driving force and its

The Similarities Between Lucius And The Tale Of Cupid And...
Many historical and mythological accounts of Graeco Roman history in the classical period, involved
tales of magic, worship of the gods, and emphasised the value society placed on devotion to religion.
These societal beliefs and practices became evident in the literature of Greek and Roman societies,
where its use, reach, and consequences was illustrated. In the only surviving Roman novel of the 2nd
century AD, Apuleius Metamorphoses, readers encounter a Greek nobleman, named Lucius, whose
insatiable curiosity leads him to explore magic. His over enthusiasm to intimately experience and
learn about magic, accidentally causes his transformation into an ass, causing him to be subjected to a
range of vulgar, exploitive, and lustful debaucheries on his path to become human again.
This essay will explore how Lucius s insatiable curiosity and thirst for forbidden knowledge causes
him to become a victim of magic, and how religion delivers him from its dangerous realms. Finally,
this essay will comment on the contested approaches to interpreting the final book of the novel.

Vlad The Impaler Essay
Dracula is known to be one of the most famous and earliest novels about vampires. Dracula is a horror
novel written by Bram Stocker in 1897. Dracula was written based on Vlad the Impaler (Vlad III),
who was the prince of Wallachia during the 15th century. In order to fully understand why Dracula
behaves the way he does, it is necessary to look at its linkage with Vlad The Impaler. Vlad III was
known to be a very cruel leader. Annie Shepherd wrote an essay named, The Evolution of the Vampire
in Fiction and Popular Culture in which she quoted a sentence about Vlad III from Treptow saying,
Tales of the historical prince have skewed him as a bloody tyrant who enjoyed having breakfast
among the bodies of his impaled victims, when, in fact, he was a stern but just leader. (4) By being a

Just like monsters, he did not have sympathy for others. This is the reason why he killed so easily and
enjoyed watching the victims suffer. Same aspect is seen in Dracula when he tortures people in many
ways and enjoys watching them suffer. He often bits people and turns them into vampires to be his
servants. These all proof that Dracula, just like Vlad III, was cruel and lacked sympathy. Marc
Lallanilla, the author of the article The real Dracula: Vlad the Impaler, explains the cruelty of Vlad the
Impaler by saying, knowing they would challenge his authority had his guests stabbed and their still
twitching bodies impaled on spikes. (1) Just like this leader, Dracula s favorite torture was to impale
people and leave them for several days like that. The cruelty of this monster is what makes vampires
scary; the fact that they are here to torture people and turn them into vampire servants. Dracula shares
a similar characteristic with the old folk tales. This is the biting and sucking of blood. Some physical

Death of a Salesman vs. Tragedy and the Common Man
It makes little sense that tragedy should only pertain to those in high ranks. As explained in his essay
Tragedy and the Common Man, Arthur Miller establishes the pattern for his own notion of a tragedy
and the consequent ramifications for the tragic hero. This pattern supports the central idea that a
tragedy can occur for characters who are common men as well as those in high places. Throughout his
paper, Miller demonstrates that it should be possible for every reader to be able to identify with the
tragic hero. Miller redefines tragedy as more common occurrence than what might happen in tragedies
such as portrayed by Shakespeare and other classical writers, thus defining Death of a Salesman as a
tragedy.

Willy, like traditional tragic heroes, possesses a tragic flaw. The possibility of victory must be there in
tragedy (Miller, Tragedy and the Common Man ). Setting aside Willy s tragic flaw, there is also a
certain amount of hope and optimism that Willy might change. If there is a possibility of bringing an
element of hope into this play, there is also a conceivable possibility of change. Change is the
compelling force without which there would be no hope. And with change comes a reasonable
possibility of victory. Throughout this entire play, Willy lives by the credo be well liked. Someday I ll
have my own business, and I ll never have to leave home any more... bigger that Uncle Charley!
Because Charley is not liked. He s liked, but he s not well liked (Miller, Death of a Salesman 30)
Willy finds this untrue as he increasingly makes less and less money on business trips. Howard, and

and therefore is destined to continue his struggle upstream.
What makes this play tragic for me, though, is that Willy does not change. It is sadly his tragic flaw
that brings about this failure. His unwillingness to submit passively to the established order and values
is his demise. He has a set idea in his mind about how he wants to be and

story line is also seen in the television series, Gossip Girl. It is the typical love story; the prospective
pairs can only fall in love with each other once they recognize their isolation and fight their way
towards their own happy ending. With different plots and twists, each love story stands out in its own
way and sets itself apart from the others. In the play, Much Ado About Nothing, the prospective
couple is Beatrice and Benedict. Their relationship begins as merciless fighting and teasing between
both characters, also known as the war of wits . Shakespeare made sure to make this type of
relationship prominent and important in the beginning of the play since Beatrice s first words towards
Benedick were, I wonder that you will still be talking, Signior Benedick. Nobody marks you. (1.1.92
94). Being around Claudio, a good friend of Benedick s, and Hero, Beatrice s cousin, makes life for
Beatrice and Benedick a bit difficult. Both Beatrice and Benedick witness as Claudio and Hero s love
story unfolds in a series of romantic events. This seems to put strain on their own relationship because
they are so closely involved with both Claudio and Hero. In a series of events

Tiger Vs Tiger Essay
Did you know that comparing the merit of lions and tigers has been a popular discussion amongst
hunters? While lions and tigers are both ferocious animals, people have often wondered if the two
animals were to fight, who would win, the lion, or the tiger. In ancient Rome, the tiger versus lion face
off wasn t uncommon. Tigers are considered the largest wild cats in the world, whereas lions are the
second largest big cat. Tigers are heavier than lions and can weigh up to 800 pounds. Meanwhile,
Lions only weigh up to 550 pounds. Tigers and lions are both mammals and also excellent hunters.
Tigers usually eat deer, antelope, and boar, while lions eat zebra, buffalo, and wildebeest. A hungry
tiger might each as much as 40 pounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have eighteen claws , five on each front foot and four on each back foot. Tigers are more
aggressive than lions are. A single tiger will regularly take on game that is much stronger and far
larger than even the lion. On the contrary, the lion will require the help of the pride to take out large
game. Tigers are fast and brutal fighters. When a tiger fights, he fights for the kill, not just to push
another animal aside. Tiger s tend to go for the throat to kill whereas a lion would rather not fight. A
lion would rather roar and just pound the tiger and try to scare off his opponent if he can.
Rome s Colosseum was built in the first century A.D., and held thousands of gladiator games. Lions
and tigers and other animals were made to fight against each other and humans. Ancient paintings of
the event usually showed the tiger winning. In addition, in the late 1800 s the Gaekwad of Baroda, an
Indian ruler, arranged a fight between the tiger and the lion. Before the fight began people bet that the
tiger would win, and it did. Furthermore, in 2011 , a tiger killed a lion at the Ankara Zoo. The tiger
found a gap in the fence separating their cages and severed the lion s jugular vein with just one stroke
with the paw. Craig Saffoe, a biologist and the curator of great cats at the Smithsonian Zoo in
Washington, D.C said, The outcome of a given fight completely depends on the individuals: their

Eleanor Roosevelt
Hernandez 1 Hernandez 1 On October 11, 1884, a remarkable individual whom would later be
considered one of the world s most influential women was born. Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New
York to her parents Anna Hall Roosevelt and Elliot Roosevelt. With her blue eyes and light brown
hair, she would warm the heart of every individual she came across. She grew to be five feet and
eleven inches, which to this day makes her the tallest first lady. With regards of being the first lady she
never regarded herself as a V.I.P., however she demonstrated her status with naturalness and
simplicity. Her simple style and elegant way s imposed her true character as the first lady. Through the
public eye she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This left Eleanor in a decisive predicament. She offered to divorce him; in her heart she knew that it
would damage his and her new political career. She was also concerned for the well being of her
children. Eleanor said, It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness. In my perspective,
I whole heartedly concur with this quote because she sacrificed herself rather than to sacrifice her
family. She was willing to stay in a marriage that didn t even suit her just because she put others
before herself. Putting all of their differences aside, she still stood by his side as a normal first lady.
This represents her strong quality and character as a powerful woman. Eleanor was admired for her
idealism and good spirits. Many individuals benefited from her warm humanitarianism and deep
concern for the world. Being that she had great work ethic and wise counsel she devoted most of her
time to charity work. In 1902 in New York City, she participated in community service projects all
over the Manhattan Lower East Side. Her passion for learning and teaching went to a settlement home
with needy children. During this time she taught dancing, literature and calisthenics. She visited needy
children in the slums and investigated working conditions in garment factories and department stores.
During World War One, Eleanor worked for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and American Red
Cross. She helped aid wounded and dying soldiers. She defends

Summary Of The Odd One Out

The Odd One Out
On the most famous street in Boston, Newbury, there lays two architectural opposites just across from
one another. The Church of the Covenants a great historical church built in a gothic architectural style
where you would see historians, tour guides or school field trips and a Victoria Secret store that covers
an entire block and is build on the bases of modern architecture where friends and family would go
shopping or for a day out. Why would there be such ancient architecture at a modern vibrant shopping
district such a Newbury? The Church of the Covenants was built in 1867 and the decision to surround
such a historic artifact with a shopping district was done purposefully. The Church when seen seems
very out of place in a street such as Newbury, however, the two polar opposite architectural
masterpieces reflect the diversity of Newbury Street, and as to why it is referred to the time square of
Boston. The different architecture invites different types of people to such a vibrant street making it
not only a tourist attraction but also a street where people from all different demographics come.
The presence of the Convent Church cannot be ignored by anyone when they walk on Newbury Street.
I found it to be very interesting how nothing near the church was taller than it. The architecture of the
street made it so that the all the surrounding shops will be lower and if you looked up you would only

The Subgenre Of Horror
What is horror? Many people enjoy a good book or film that sends a shiver down your spine and
makes you question reality. This may seem crazy to others, who do not see a single reason why you
would stay up watching a film that will make you unable to sleep for days, but to others it is a hobby.
The question is, what is horror really, and what makes it so good? Per definition, a horror story would
be a work of fiction with the intention and purpose of giving the reader a negative feeling, such as
fear, repulsion, or dread. It gives the work a frightening atmosphere. Whilst there are many subgenres
of horror, the largest amount of horror stories focus on topics like death, evil, the supernatural and
witchcraft. This is most likely the case because of its ancient origins, it even has its roots in folklore
and religion. Horror started out as something quite religious, as the majority of people have been
religious for a long while. Religious horror often contains Satan as the villain who uses someone s
body as a vessel, a child s for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It tends to have romantic and supernatural aspects, with the purpose to both seduce and horrify the
audience. Even when they do not contain the paranormal or supernatural, they remain mysterious due
to the focus on a very dark atmosphere. There tends to be a lot of symbolism in gothic horror as well.
Fascinatingly enough, it is one of the oldest subgenres of horror and can even be considered to be the
mother of all modern genre fiction, as the first sci fi authors got inspiration from gothic horror. The
name Gothic originates from an architecture in the Middle Ages, which Brits from the 18th and 19th
century were interested in because of its mysterious and creepy aura. Back then, there were a lot of
Gothic ruins scattered around in Great Britain that inspired British authors to write horror set in the
Middle Ages, often taking place in Catholic

Waterbed Research Paper
The waterbed, a mattress full of water, but it s not just that it s much more. Well, it s not a lot a lot
more it just is a little more than just a water bed. Right now you might think the water bed is a boring
invention and how could I get enough information for this report but you might actually be surprised
and impressed of what this invention is for and does for other people and how it could affect people if
this invention ( the water bed ) was never invented.
It has a kind of a long story, starting 3,000 years ago. According to legend, the first water bed was
made of goat skin and was made 3,000 years ago, but no one actually knows for sure. This is why it
isn t long because if it was 3,000 years ago then it would have a long story, ... Show more content on

You might think that the waterbed might not affect the world much if it wasn t invented, but it would
actually affect many people s lives. Well to start it would affect many people s lives because most
people in hospitals that need back pain treatment or have pressure ulcers might not have a place to
actually get treatment for their problems. Then, they would probably have body pain for a really long
time. Well, it was helpful in a way for lots of people and in a way effected everyone s lives because
even the people that sold waterbed would be affected if the waterbed wasn t invented because they
might not even have a job for a living and probably be poor this very instant.
It is actually better than regular beds in my opinion. I mean it lasts longer, you could control the
temperature, you could fall asleep faster and with less ease I mean what else you want to know so you
can buy one. It probably is in fact better than a regular mattress bed. Both of these are good and have
similarities that can make them both convenient to buy but in the end the waterbed ends up winning
depending in how you see it. Sometimes they can actually kill babies because they drown the

  • 2. Displacement Reactions And The Single Displacement Reaction Introduction There are two types of displacement reactions : One type is called the single displacement reaction, the other is called the double displacement reaction. During a single displacement reaction, an element substitutes another element in a compound, creating a new element and a new compound as products. In most single displacement reactions, either a metal replaces another metal, or a non metal replaces another non metal. The more reactive element takes the place of the less reactive element in the compound, otherwise the reaction will not occur. The general chemical equations of single displacement can be: A (metal) + BC → AC + B, A (non metal) + BC → BA + C. Double displacement reaction is a chemical reaction, where the positive ions of two different chemical compounds exchange and produce two new compounds. The products may contain a precipitate. The general chemical equation of double displacement is: AB+ CD → AD + CB The purpose of the lab is to observe the reactants and the products of three chemical reactions and determine which type of reaction occurs in each chemical reaction. The solubility tables can be used to help better determine the reaction types. The solubility tables refer to the solubility of ionic compounds in water. By using the solubility tables, we can know whether a compound is soluble or insoluble. • 3. The Role of Class in Evelina Essay The Role of Class in Evelina What is the definition of class ? Burney expresses how class is viewed in the eighteenth century society through the novel Evelina. In the novel, Burney exposes to the reader different classes of characters from the aristocrats to the merchants to the commoners and to the prostitutes. Burney also reveals how different character defines the word class. Madame Duval thinks money and material are sufficient qualifications to belong to the high society. Mrs. Beaumont believes that a person s class is set by birth; the social class one is born into defines one s social status. However, Burney seems to disagree with both of the characters. Being vicious as he is, He believes that by establish the commonality of Evelina s social status, she will not be able to be accepted by the elite social class. Not only did Burney point out the importance of social ranking, she, at the same time, exhibits the ill nature of those who make use of such information regarding other peoples status to their advantage. Burney seems to be criticizing the double standard treatment of people who lacks class and those who has high status. She disapproves the conduct of people in the novel who have the characteristic that appears to be changing with the tide. Mrs. Beaumont s character is satirically described as the absolute Court Calendar bigot. (pg. 284) Her idea of class is illustrated by her belief that birth is virtue. Some messages can be picked up instantly while other messages will make you sit back and think just a bit harder. American Beauty was a film released in 1999 that was filled with numerous interpretations of which themes can be accounted for. Nostalgia and loss, and issues with obsession are two themes or issues that stood out when watching the film for the first time. American Beauty is a drama film directed by Sam Mendes. The film follows sympathetic lead character, Lester as he lives his boring, mundane life. Lester seems to have the picture perfect life on the surface of things but that isn t always the case. Right before Lester died, he took a picture of the family that was sitting in the kitchen and stared. He was reminiscing about how happy he was with Carolyn and Jane and starting to feel at ease. After a poll was taken about how students feel speaking to schools counselors, almost all expressed a lack of trust and had no experiences of relating emotional/social issues to them. (Jackson 23). When counselors take the step in helping out the students who are battling issues within themselves the outcome can be beautiful. In one school, a student came to a counselor depressed and alone. • 7. Academic And Artistic Areas Of The Arts Nearly everyone accepts the fact that no two students are alike, so why do we, as a society, expect all students to achieve high marks in the same courses? The arts have long been seen as extra and have not received the same level of respect as traditional academics like algebra and biology. Music, painting, and photography, are just as skill based and require similar amounts of time and effort as their STEM counterparts. The idea that students who do not perform well in academic classes, even though they excel in the arts, are unintelligent is a false belief. Both academic and artistic areas require work and practice. Music requires learning how to read notes and how to actually play an instrument fluidly, memorizing the individual tones created by the different parts of the instrument. Composing their own music would require a lot of effort and thought as well. Visual arts, like painting and photography, include their own set of skills and techniques that need to be properly combined in order to produce varied and visually pleasing work. It is not just having an idea pop into your head and slapping it onto some paper or snapping a quick photo and printing it out. Studying literature requires students to think critically and look beyond the surface of the text to find out the more complex ideas the author wanted to get across. Another factor that needs to be taken into account is style of thinking. Not everyone s though process is the same. There ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hearsay Hearsay is a statement, other than the one made by the declarant testifying in the court, offered in evidence to prove the truth of the matter asserted. Confrontation Clause Under the Sixth Amendment, Confrontation Clause provides that in all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to be confronted with the witnesses against him. Here, we must first determine if the dialog during the 911 call in question establishes a testimonial or nontestimonial hearsay. Nontestimonial hearsay will be subject to the FRE and falls outside of the scope of the Confrontational Clause protection. Therefore, the provision of the Confrontation Clause would be inapplicable. The power complex consisted of a total of four RBMK 1000 nuclear reactors and at the time of the accident two more reactors where being built nearby. Reactors one and two were built between 1970 and 1977. The third and fourth reactors were built in 1983. There were a few factors that cause the Chernobyl accident. One being that the operators of the power plant took a couple of missteps leaving one to assume that they were poorly trained in essence to the sequence of events to follow. On 25 April 1986 operators of the plant were planning to test the new voltage regulators. The new regulator were design to regulate power to test just how long the turbines would spin and supply power during a loss of power from the main electrical power source. It was suppose to be a part of the routine testing, but on this day it would turn out to be nothing close to normal routine testing. They attempted this test the year earlier but the power from the turbine was drained to quickly therefore they need to test the new regulators. The operators of the plant took some of actions to include disenabling the automatic shutdown mechanisms before they attempted the test on 26 April. The day of the testing a distinctiveness in the design of the control rods caused a huge surge in power as they were entered into the reactor. By the time the operator moved to shut down the reactor it was too late. The reactor had become extremely unstable. The combination of hot fuel and cooling waters led to ... • 11. Using A Warrant Should Not Be Allowed Essay Many cases have been brought to court and are continuing to be brought that say location tracking without a warrant should not be allowed. The argument most often used is that it is a violation of the right to privacy. A warrant is not the only way to obtain these records nor should it be. There are valid reasons that data can be obtained through other methods. The issue is across many platforms of digital communication but the most prominent and easiest to explain is with cell phones. The use of historical location tracking data is not a violation of privacy, in fact there is no right to privacy as most understand the term. We are tracked almost constantly as participants of todays interconnected world. Every time we connect to the internet whether it be using a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone that connection and the traffic passed is tracked. Even the infotainment systems in our cars such as the Onstar system available in some General Motors vehicles is capable of tracking and in turn reporting out locations. The IP address of the device used and the addresses connected to are tracked. If location services are turned on as many applications require to function, then that is tracked as well. In addition, as the leader of the French satirical press with his journals, La Caricature and of Le Charivari, Charles Philipon set the precedent of the political and social tone of the press in France throughout the July Monarchy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the first five years of the July Monarchy, fines and the chance of incarceration plagued the press, however, according to Gabriel Weisberg in the article, The Coded Image: Agitation in Caricature, the government reached its breaking point in 1935. He stated that they reacted by restricting the freedom on the press, which had been bitterly won in the Revolution of 1830, through the institution of censorship control invoked by the September Laws . These laws regulated the press and banned all criticism of King Louis Phillipe and constitutional monarchy. Although Charles Philipon and Honoré Daumier were not the sole components of the censorship, for hundreds of talented satirists flooded France with political commentary, Philipon and Daumier s work was exponentially influential to kindling ideas of discontent that were potent to the monarchy. Despite the artist s initial disregard of imposed fines and police confiscation, the implication of significant punishment, artists were forced to be extremely careful about their themes . As a result, satire began to move away from its traditional political nature and began lampooning issues regarding social classes. With the help of Philipon s Soap Bubbles, The Replastering, and Les Poires and Daumier s Gargantua, the reception and distribution of the political satire and caricature during the July Monarchy was blacklisted from popular culture. They define our actions, our view of what is good, fair, and just, and shape the way we live our lives. The definition of cross cultural values and beliefs is that of where people from different countries or regions interact, bringing their different values, viewpoints, and practices unique to their culture (Dictionary, 2017). In this literature review, we will analyze the differences between Chinese and Western culture in child rearing, with a focus on the impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts, how children accommodate or resist those socialization efforts, and finally, we will discuss the implications for parents and teachers. Socializing behavior is defined as behavior enacted towards children, or in the presence of children, to induce or shape their behavior or understanding of behavior (LeCuyer Zhang, 2015). The impact of cultural values on parents and/or teachers socialization efforts The Chinese culture is known for its collectivism with focus on group success over personal success, and hierarchal authority where children are expected to obey parents, teachers, and other authorities in power. • 20. Religious Philosophies and the Meaning of Life All throughout history philosophers, politicians, and religious leaders have pondered the meaning of life. 20th century philosopher Albert Camus found that it Western society was far too focused on substance rather than understanding that it is the search for actualization or the process as opposed to the destination that provides the true meaning of life (Camus, 1942). Still others, Friedrich Nietzsche, for instance, found that it was suffering in its literal sense, or the process of undergoing, that defined the meaning of life. This was the ultimate search for freedom and actualization intellectual and emotional satisfaction (Nietzsche, 2004). Taking this view further, it seems as if the 21st century as brought the challenge of overcoming one s base instincts and striving for more, to be any kind of a person, one s life must have a unity to it, the continuity and coherence which comes from constructing one s life as a work of art (Young, 2003, 117). Karl Marx called religion the opiate of the masses, in that it both numbs and comforts people, but really leaves them in a perpetual state of confusion and falsehoods. Yet it is primarily religion that humans turn to when facing questions about the meaning of life. It is interesting, too, that this idea of the meaning of life has ingrained in so very many parts of culture popular, spiritual, and philosophical. Additionally our annotated bibliography was due this week. As usual, I will start with this week s reading from the Taking Sides text. This week was slightly different in that we were given only one topic to read and discuss. The article discussed opposing views on whether or not sexting was considered safe sex. For my initial opinion on the topic, it seemed obvious to me that it was not a form of safe sex. In my mind people would have to be able to physically touch one another to actually have sex. • 22. The Buddha, The Dharma, And The Sangha Starting out in the Indian subcontinent, Buddhism grew to be a dominant religion that spread throughout Asia. Buddhism is rooted in the three elements known as the Three Jewels : the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. Through these elements, followers practice meditation and self control in order to reach the state of enlightenment, or nirvana. The religion was pioneered by The Buddha, whose last reincarnation was named Siddhartha in Nepal around 600 B.C.E. He was a human who transcended to a state of enlightenment, understanding and practicing the three elements of Buddhism. Unlike the main figure in many other world religions, Buddha did not deem himself God or a prophet, but just a regular man who learned the teachings of nonviolence, inner peace, and balance. Siddhartha was born as a prince and lived a lavish life growing up. However he eventually realized that his life would not be fulfilled by material belongings, and abdicated his position. Siddhartha went on to study meditation and yoga, eventually reaching enlightenment. The pervasiveness and inevitability of suffering in human life was a main topic contemplated by Buddha throughout his life. The sources of suffering are key in the path to enlightenment, and Buddha realized this in his quest to enlightenment as well. These topics, among other core teachings of Buddhism, are substantiated and outlined by the experiences of the last Buddha. One of the most core topics explored by Buddhism, the pervasiveness and ... Protons and neutrons constitute the nuclei of atoms. Since protons and neutrons behave similarly within the nucleus, and each has a mass of approximately one atomic mass unit, they are both referred to as nucleons.[5] Their properties and interactions are described by nuclear physics. The chemical and nuclear properties of the nucleus are determined by the number of protons, called the atomic number, and the number of neutrons, called the neutron number. The atomic mass number is the total number of nucleons. For example, carbon has atomic number 6, and its abundant carbon 12 isotope has 6 neutrons, whereas its rare carbon 13 isotope has 7 neutrons. • 30. Greek Theatre And Medieval Drama Greek Theatre and Medieval Drama: Distant Siblings Greek theatre and medieval drama were both very popular artistic events in their own periods of performance. However, from ancient Greece to the renaissance, time has set them apart in terms of methodology; their practitioners use a creative process based off of different mindsets. Therefore, the significant time lapse between the two genres has had an evident impact on the way theatre was perceived and presented. In comparing aspects such as religious motivations, conditions of violence and character development, the distinct theatrical natures of Greek theatre and medieval drama will be made apparent. Though both genres of theatre are closely tied to religion, Greek theatre and medieval drama have different religious motivations that impact the ways in which the theatrical event is utilized. In Greece, theatre was used to entertain or please the Gods, more specifically the God Dionysus, during the most important of the four Athenian festivals: the Great Dionysia. The first known Greek playwrights, such as Thespis and Euripides, were chosen to compete in the festival and submit three tragedies and one satyr play to be performed in front of approximately 15,000 spectators. In classical Greece, theatre was the center of citizenship and society; religious ideologies towards Dionysus were not only realized by performances, but strongly encouraged by the state. A direct opposition would be a less traditional perspective that the state should protect its most valuable asset, the people. Before comparing human security topics and traditional security topics, both must be explained because incorporation of human security to traditional security values causes mass tension. In the most basic of definitions, human security is keeping the people free from any ridicule, discrimination or terror that they may encounter. While human security is key to the function of a state, the issue should not be implemented to be covered by traditional security topics. Security as a whole, should be more specific to state security and human security. Security of one should not trump nor take away from the security of another. Dracula was written based on Vlad the Impaler (Vlad III), who was the prince of Wallachia during the 15th century. In order to fully understand why Dracula behaves the way he does, it is necessary to look at its linkage with Vlad The Impaler. Vlad III was known to be a very cruel leader. Annie Shepherd wrote an essay named, The Evolution of the Vampire in Fiction and Popular Culture in which she quoted a sentence about Vlad III from Treptow saying, Tales of the historical prince have skewed him as a bloody tyrant who enjoyed having breakfast among the bodies of his impaled victims, when, in fact, he was a stern but just leader. This pattern supports the central idea that a tragedy can occur for characters who are common men as well as those in high places. Throughout his paper, Miller demonstrates that it should be possible for every reader to be able to identify with the tragic hero.
