Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky Essay
Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky
Immediately we are introduced to the leitmotif, major and minor thirds, within a tritone. This returns
at bars 15 18 and at various other parts in the suite of which I will later elaborate. Within the opening
few bars the pizzicato and legato combined in the cello and bass section produces an ominous opening
to the work. The base drum roll and the murky off beat and horn entry at bar 5 makes it clear that it is
evil magic. One of Stravinsky s traits that often appears is how he uses tritones to represent evil
magic, e.g. f# to C, shown in bars 11 and 12, and more simple harmony and chord progressions, e.g.
dominant 7ths and 9ths to show good magic which can bee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The bars silence leaves the audience in suspense wondering whether or not Ivan has managed to catch
the Firebird, before a certain elegance added in the variations which has a waltz like lilt to it. The high
register, quick rhythms and simple harmony represent good magic and has an uplifting feeling to it.
The imagery is quite clear of a bird teasing Ivan mocking him as he can t quite catch her. In bar 3, the
tonality becomes less clear, and a whole tone scale is used, this is yet another of Stravinsky s traits, he
pushed these boundaries where other great composers were scared to use it. Stravinsky uses the
piccolo to represent the Firebird taking to flight; this can be seen in 2 bars before figure 11. During the
coda there is a feeling of speeding up without actually doing so. The flurry of descending triplet semi
quavers could represent the Firebird falling slowly down, into Ivan s clutch.
Stravinsky s use of orchestra shows that Ivan finally manages to catch her in the pantomime.
(Pantomime used in the traditional sense, miming). The hand stopped horns in figure 20 represents
Ivan actually capturing the Firebird, there is a first inversion augmented 6th and tritones heard three
times during figure 20 this is the firebird trying to escape from Ivan s tight clutch. We hear once again
the original leitmotif in semi quavers, retrograde inverted and simply retrograde.

The internet revenue earned by Marks and Spencer Group plc reached £ 100 million in the year 2007
(Anon A, 2011). This strategic decision will also be discussed in more detail later in this report. As a
final significant event on the company timeline, in November 2009 it was announced Marc Bolland
would take over as Executive Chairman from Stuart Rose in early 2010.
M amp;S outlined their strategic plan between 2010 and 2015 and thus the strategy changes chosen in

Strategy Definition
Before the individual strategic changes are described and evaluated, it is necessary to fully understand
the definition of the term strategy and strategic management.
The flame of competition has changed from he smokey yellow to intense white heat. For companies to
survive and prosper they will have to have a vision, a mission and strategy (Johnson, 2001). The use
of strategy in this well known quote from the Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Peter Elwood shows the
importance strategic decisions plan in the modern era for organisations. To supplement this, strategy is
theoretically defined as the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves
advantages in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with
the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations (Johnson et al., 2005). According to this definition, the

Aristophanes Speech On Love And Happiness
The philosopher I have chosen for this assignment is Plato, in Symposium. Based on the readings of
The Speech of Aristophanes, the theorist Aristophanes states that the key to love and happiness is the
search to finding ones other half , in which the couple becomes together or whole . In the quest to
becoming one , the individuals find themselves in a lifelong togetherness, what some claim to be
considered finding your soul mate When becoming whole the newly formed partnership embrace in
sexual relations and share experiences with one another. In order to fully understand Aristophanes
concept of erotic love, it is imperative to summarize and highlight details of the story in The Speech of
Aristophanes. The form of Aristophanes speech, comes in as a myth of a story long ago where there
were three genders: male, female and androgynous, all of which were twice what they humans are
now. For example, two sets of hands and two sets of legs. Though the gods hated these beings, they
knew they could not kill them, as forfeiting humans as sacrifices. So, in replace Zeus decided to cut
the humans into two, but keeping them whole on either side, including their genitals. Because the
humans, now half, had been whole for so long, they constantly had urges to find their other half to
make them whole again, which begins Aristophanes theory of longing for one another. When found by
another half, the couple would embrace in sexual activity and not want anything else,

Martin Luther King Jr Day Analysis
It is interesting when we think about Martin Luther King Jr. Day. About the man behind the holiday.
He embodied values of service, courage, compassion, dignity, and humility during his time as leader
of the Civil rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. in his life and in his depiction in the movie
Selma shows a man that believed that implementation of public policy should not be decided by those
in power when they felt like administering it, but to force the hand of policymakers who did not
permit the rights of all Americans equally through a unified voice of the people by the people. Martin
Luther King Jr. was a very intellectual man who had a beautiful mind and heart when it came to the
knowledge of what he was doing and how he did it. His leadership came from a fire that bred in him
believing that what was going on was wrong. But he also looked to his Christian faith to guide him in
his decisions and actions. Just like how Mahatma Gandhi had done years before through his Hindu
faith to help India gain independence from Great Britain. Martin Luther King had the intelligence also
to see that non violent actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Short Story Of The Pokemon Center Waiting Room
The only sounds progressing through the Pokemon Center waiting room were the soft whispers of
nurses and the sharp beeping of machines from other rooms down the long white hallway. There was
only one person in the waiting room. A girl, no older than sixteen, looking bruised and worn. Yet she
was sitting up straight, remarkably rigid in her chair with this unreadable expression on her face.
Perhaps the only thing that indicated that she was worried, were her hands clutching the muddy hat in
her lap until her hands were a strained white. The nurses quietly spoke of how they had seen her
before, way back when she visited Clanwood City for medicine for the poor lighthouse pokemon; she
hadn t even stopped to battle the gym leader, even if fly would

Is Mayella Ewell Powerful Or Powerful Analysis
Is Mayella ewell powerful? That is the question that is asked and must be answered.Throughout the
story To kill a mockingbird Mayella shows some glimpses of power but not enough to say she is
powerful. For example in the beginning she shows that she can not even control her home life so how
can she be powerful. Also she shows that she is just too poor for her to have power. Now in the next
three paragraphs I will explain my thinking on why I believe Mayella is not powerful.
In the first paragraph I will explain why and how I believe Mayella Ewell is not powerful, with the use
of class.First off I would like to show you one of my biggest reasons for believing Mayella is not
powerful Maycombs Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump in what used to be a negro cabin .
(DBQ:Is mayella Ewell powerful?13)The second reason I believe Mayella Ewell is not powerful while
using class for my examples is that longs as he keeps on callin me ma am and sayin miss Mayella.I
don t hafta take his sass, I ain t called upon to take it (DBQ: Is Mayella Ewell powerful?.17). Now you
can see even in her dialect she does not know or have class, you can also tell by the way she is not
used to being called ma am and miss Mayella.Next I will show how much of a lower class the Ewells
are in Mayella Ewell must have the loneliest person in the world...; white people wouldn t have
anything to do with her because she lived among pigs (DBQ:Is mayella Ewell powerful 21).The final

Business Marketing Of Foreign Buyers
Part II. Active marketing to foreign buyers
Chapter 22. Decisions to make based on demand for your real estate and marketing budget
To market to foreign buyers or not? This is the same powerful question as the famous To be or not to
be? As a real estate seller of just one private property or a developer with many properties or a realtor
you have to answer this question to yourself, having been equipped with all the preliminary
information you can gather before you start doing anything. Marketing costs money and takes time,
so, without thoughtful consideration and a solid marketing plan with a budget you do not have to start
spending money and time. There are obvious situations where and when it is the only possibility to
sell your property: your country or area is in economic and financial problems and thus local buyers
do not buy. You have to answer Yes . There are less obvious situations when the local real estate
market is in balance more or less right now, but you hear a lot around how other sellers, developers
and realtors benefit from selling real estate to foreigners. Your choice then. Even in a hot seller s
market when it is no problem to receive a quick offer from a local buyer, sometimes it makes sense to
market to foreigners anyway as you can get a higher price from the foreign buyers under the
circumstances. If you answer Yes to marketing to the foreign buyers, the next question is To market to
the foreign buyers in what

Elementary School Classroom Reading Programs
The questions that are addressed by the researcher are: what are the components of elementary school
classroom reading programs that promote the reading growth of students with reading difficulties?
What are the strengths of these programs and how can these strengths be used to help educators design
or implement other effective reading programs? The article discusses six classroom programs that help
improve reading in struggling students. The researcher s intention with writing the article was to help
other teachers and educators in implementing their own reading programs. The six elementary school
classroom reading programs discussed are: the Book Club Program, Concept Oriented Reading
Instruction, Fluency Oriented Reading Instruction, the Four Block Approach, the Kamehameha Early
Education Program Whole Literacy Curriculum, and Success for All. The reasons for choosing the
listed programs are these programs have been proven to effective with struggling readers, were used in
diverse public schools, were based on reading research and practice and provided a significant amount
of progress of struggling readers by the program developers and researchers through qualitative and/or
quantitative measure of the success students have reached through the program.
Book Club Program (BCP). This program is implemented in different ways which are community

President Roosevelt s New Deal
When President Roosevelt took office, the odds were stacked against him almost immediately. This
was due to Roosevelt having to take on the task of getting America out of the Depression that It
plunged into during the Herbert Hoover administration. The Great Depression happened through a
myriad of events that ranged from bank failures to the stock market crashing multiple times in a short
amount of time. The nation s economy was in turmoil and unemployment and poverty were at an all
time high and something had to be done to stop this economic free fall. FDR and his political cabinet
called the Brain Trust decided to take the Great Depression head on with a policy that included many
reforms and an aggressive approach to unemployment. This policy would be known as the New Deal.
The New Deals main goal was to help to end the Great Depression, FDR figured that the best way to
do this would be to have the government be more hands on in the fight against the Great Depression.
The approach of the New Deal was based on the government being more active and hands on, this
lead to some individuals and factions to oppose his New Deal for various reasons . The opposition was
mostly based on the reforms that were taking place on an economic level. Some groups viewed this as
a way for the government to invade on the practice that allowed certain individuals to corner the
market. These factions wanted the laws to go unchanged like they were during the Hoover
administration (which was

Frankenstein Revenge Theme Essay
The theme that stuck out to me in this novel Frankenstein is seeking revenge leads to a tragic outcome
. This theme can be seen through the monster killing William. The monster then went on to kill
Elizabeth on her and Victor s big wedding night to get back to Victor. The monster then leads Victor
into a long chase that ends up with a tragic outcome at the end that no one would have expected to
happen. One way that revenge occurs throughout this novel is when the monster takes his trip to
Geneva. While he is there he meets up with Victor s younger brother William. The monster kills
William and puts the locket in Justine s dress pocket, and makes it look like she had killed him and
this leads to the death of Justine. The monster then tells Victory that he needs a companion and that it
will be done to what he says. My companion must be of the same species and have the same defects.
This being you must create. (Shelley, ch. XVI). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Victor put Elizabeth to bed one night. Oh! Peace, peace, my love, ; this night, and all will be safe; but
this night is dreadful, very dreadful. (Shelley, ch. XXIII). The reason Victor went to search for the
monster is because he thought that they were going to get into a fight. Even though Victor thought that
the monster wanted him, he actually wanted to kill Elizabeth and get revenge on Victor. Victor left the
monster and did not want to have responsibilities for him whenever he was younger. Victor did not
approve of what the monster was doing and he could not stop him because the monster was bigger and

Film Analysis Of Mommy And Ida
Xavier Dolan s Mommy (2014) and Pawel Pawlikowski s Ida (2013) epitomize visual masterpieces.
Mommy won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and competed as a nomination for the Palme
d Or; Ida won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In relation to the synopsis, the
films are dichotomous, the former depicts the relationship between a single mother and her teenage
son; the latter follows a young nun and the legacy of the Holocaust in post World War II Poland. Also,
in terms of color and visual style the films diverge, Mommy utilizes bright colors and multiple
closeups, whereas and Ida is in black and white and uses a multitude of cinematographic techniques.
Both films represent divergent styles, but contain myriad elements for a visual analysis. Mommy is
ultimately about an intense mother/son relationship. At the beginning of the film, Diane Després picks
up her son Steve from a juvenile detention facility, from which he had been expelled. Steve s
impulsive and violent behavior led to his temporary incarceration. Throughout the 2 hour and 19
minute run time, Diane and Steve attempt to rebuild their fraught relationship, with the major barrier
being Steve s behavior and Diane s inability to provide him assistance. The introduction of the
Després neighbor, Kyla, attempts to heal the relationship; however, the film concludes in an act of
impulsively suicidal desperation. Pawlikowski s Ida takes place in Poland in the 1960s, with the
effects of the

Benefits Of College Credit In College
Earning college credit in high school sounds like a dream for many students, and can be extremely
beneficial, but there are various downfalls. Throughout the United States there are many programs that
offer students opportunities to obtain college credits. The four most popular are Advanced
Placement(AP), International Baccalaureate(IB), College in the School (CIS), and Postsecondary
Enrollment Options (PSEO).
Advanced Placement(AP) offers rigorous, college level classes that gives students an opportunity to
gain skills that colleges recognize. To earn college credits, students must take an AP exam. AP exams
are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5,4, or 3 mean the student did well, and is qualified to
receive college credit for that course, but anything lower than a 3 does not qualify the student for
college credits.
The second program I will be discussing is, The International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB
programs mission is to, develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create
a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. ( ) The IB
organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging
courses and rigorous assessment. These courses encourage students across the world to become active,
compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also
be right. To obtain an IB diploma, students must receive a

In this article, Pasek also determines that children under three years of age in no way benefit from

determine whether or not watching television to great amounts is affecting the eating habits and
psyche of young children. A study published by US Journal Pediatrics found that more psychological
difficulties dealing with peers, emotional issues, and hyperactivity are likely to develop with children
who spend numerous hours daily in front of television or playing video games (Yahoo! News n.pag).
Researchers studied 1,013 children ages 10 to 11 and had them complete a 25 point questionnaire, a
self report about daily hours watching television or playing games, and measured their physical
activity using an accelerometer in which the kids wore around their waist for seven days (Yahoo!

higher on the questionnaire which indicated, They had more psychological difficulties than kids who
did not spend a lot of time in front of a screen, (Yahoo! News n.pag). Even if children are physically
active but still spend multiple hours watching television or playing video games, they are still at risk
for psychological difficulties. Researchers stress the importance of parents regulating how much these

Kony s Killing In Uganda Essay
Kony was a master at recruiting his soldiers and workers. To keep his people under his control, he
would convince them that he is the Holy Spirit. That was one of his best tactics for recruitment. Also,
in 2006, it was recorded that between the years of 1986 2005, Kony has abducted 66,000 children. The
LRA does a crazy thing to spread fear into the eyes of civilians. They will hack away their ears, lips,
hands and feet with michetties every time they strike a village. He also requires his slaves to kill their
own parents so they have no one and nowhere to return if they ever escape. So in other words, they are
forced to kill in this army no matter what and they will not be able to escape from the army because
Kony gives them a special potion that tracks their every move. It is crazy to think that someone is so
die hearted to do something so cruel like this. As stated before, Kony has many tactics for getting
soldiers to work for him. One of the things he told his army ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

their fight to help Uganda. The Invisible Children and other people basically forced the US

when he will be caught and international support may be removed at any time. Just recently on

Analysis Of The Movie Stand And Deliver
This paper will be explaining the different types of leadership skill that I notice in the movie Stand
and Deliver. The movie is a true story about a teacher who fought against all odd to help poor Latin
students to pass the advance placement test in calculus. He motivates the students with everything that
he could think of. The students received such a high test score that the testing center though they had
cheated. The first leadership theory Jamie Escalante demonstrates is Leader Member Exchange theory.
Jamie is waking the hall, looking for his classroom. Jamie enters the classroom, he sees the students
standing and talking, he sees girls sitting in boys lap. Jamie tells the student to take a seat. They act
like they don t hear him talking. Jamie tell them again to take a seat, one girl makes a comment asking
if the class can talk about sex. Jamie comment, what one female student mentions could cost me my
job. The students stop talking and start looking at Jamie and wondering what he is talking about. The
second leadership theory Jamie shows is Situational Approach, when Angel and Finger Man come late
to class. Jamie has Finger Man to take the seat in the front of the class and Angel to stand in the back.
Jamie asks Finger Man if he brought his tools to class. Finger Man tells Jamie that he uses his head.
Jamie then tells him that this is his class and if he wants to be a part then he needs to be on time.

The Last Story Of Jezebel
Malicious, destructive, harlot, corrupt, murderer all words used to describe Jezebel, Queen of the
Israelites. The story of Jezebel, although only told in a few chapters and verses, generated a reputation
for her as one of the most vile and hated women in the Bible. It all began with King Ahab marrying
her, which instigated the whole kingdom to worship Baal rather than YHWH. Next, Jezebel kills all
the prophets of the Lord, and, in retaliation, Elijah kills 850 of the pagan priests. As soon as Jezebel
gets word of this, she pledges to put Elijah to death. Her name is next mentioned in the story of
Naboth and his vineyard. Ahab wishes to own Naboth s vineyard, and Naboth refuses to sell it to his
king. Therefore, Jezebel takes action and writes letters in Ahab s name telling the nobles and elders
Naboth was to be stoned to death for cursing God. When they reported back that the job was done,
Ahab seized the vineyard he desired. In the last story of Jezebel, Jehu is anointed king of Israel by
Elijah and kills Jehoram, Jezebel s only living son. Jehu then sets out for Jezebel to put her to death.
She puts on her finest clothing and does her hair and makeup beautifully, as she expected his arrival.
Her life and legacy end in a gruesome death being trampled by horses. Several commentators have
opinions as to whether or not Jezebel was as heinous as so many people presume. Collectively, most
of the commentators saw Jezebel as the driving force of evil in Kings. In Matthew Henry s
commentary, he refers to the vineyard story and states, Never were more wicked orders given by any
prince, than those Jezebel sent to the rulers of Jezreel. Additionally, he contributes to Jezebel s
reputation as a she devil by directing others to us her story as an example of the power that Satan can
have in the lives of disobedient people. Henry also views Ahab as a victim of Jezebel s said seduction
and wickedness because Ahab had repented in a way that only might be seen of men. He concludes his
commentary by discussing her reprehensible opposition to God and how she should be used as an
illustration of evil to prevent others from following in her immoral path.
Surprisingly, most of the female perspectives on Jezebel s story

The Constitution And The United Kingdom
A constitution is often defined as a set of rules set to regulate the system of government within a state.
Professor King in his Hamlyn Lecture defined the constitution as, the set of the most important rules
that regulate the relations among the different parts of the government of a given country and also the
relations between the different parts of the government and the people of the country . Unlike some
other democratic countries, the United Kingdom does not have a single written document entitled The
Constitution but rather it has what is referred to as an unwritten constitution .
The UK constitution is made up from a wide variety of sources, some of which are conventions while
others are as more official such as laws found in EU law. The constitution can be found in a number of
documents such as Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, the Act of Settlement and the Parliament Acts. A
common source of the constitution includes Acts of Parliament, there exists the argument that many of
the Acts that are currently on the statute book are constitutional laws, this can be noted in the case
Thoburn v City Sunderland (2002) , where Laws LJ makes a distinctions between what he termed as
ordinary statutes and constitutional statutes . Similarly decisions of courts can also become a source of
legislation, as can the legislative supremacy of parliament, A.V. Dicey, the British jurist and
Constitutional theorist, described this as the power of law making unrestricted by any

Database Design, Implementation, and Management
ABSTRACT
Database Design, Implementation, and Management
Gymnasium Database System
As the world entering into a digital era, most of organizations use different kinds of database
environment to achieve efficient management. A suitable database management system provides a set
of tools for an organization to efficiently track and manage its data.
The development of a database follows a database application lifecycle. It is a rather long process and
requires a considerable amount of time, energy, and resources as well. A database administrator is
obliged to strive for the perfection of the database to address the increasing amount of information to
be dealt with. Apart from that, since new technology keeps emerging, ... Show more content on

1. Introduction
For any organization the collection and storage of data have always been a primary concern. Large
organizations nowadays use a database system to address this task. However, the earliest solution is a
file based system, and it is still in use in many small firms today.
File based system is a set of application programs that provides services for users to keep and process
data. Each program is independent and can define and manage its own data. When users need to look
up some information, they go to the filing system and search from the first entry until the desired
result is found.
Although the file based system can be an effective approach sometime, it does suffer from two
detrimental problems:
← Isolation of data. When stored in a file based system, data is kept within separate files in an isolated
manner. It would be a rather difficult task when users want to access relevant information from two
different files. ←

The Psychological Theory Of Bystanders-Darley And Latane
Bystanders Darley and Latane (1968 ) = an individual not helping someone needing help or assistance
when passive bystander is present Sources: Crane textbook pg. 264 267 Experiments: According to the
theory, the presence of other people or just the perception that other people are witnessing the event
will decrease the likelihood that an individual will intervene in an emergency due to psychological
processes like: Diffusion of responsibility: Responsibility is diffused when more bystanders are
present and this reduces the psychological costs of not intervening. Informational social influence
(pluralistic ignorance): If the situation is ambiguous people will look to other people around to see
what they do. Evaluation apprehension: Individual bystanders are aware that other people are present

Lord Of The Flies Comparison Analysis
Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various themes and ideas to
convey important messages within their texts. These themes are often represented through the clever
clever and concise use of descriptive language and symbolism. Golding s lord of the flies and Abrams
Examples of this are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film Lost where Golding and Abrams
are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and societies brittle shell which when put
under pressure results in a descent into chaos and savagery. Golding is able to encapsulate paramount
themes and ideas in the text through the use of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and
symbolism. The preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing
and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the
best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. An example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a
conch and decide to use it to summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call
the others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early on the
underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an example of symbolism used
to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses symbolism to convey his message that society
s state of governing and law is feeble and if people are put in certain

1930 Olmsted-Bartholomew Parks Plan For The Los Angeles...
Eden by Design is a captivating read. A replica of the never adopted 1930 Olmsted Bartholomew
parks plan for L.A. County, Parks, Playgrounds, and Beaches for the Los Angeles Region, is the
essence of the book. Going through the introductory parts made me realize that had this plan, which
itself is extraordinary in its latitude and farsightedness, been implemented the congestive mass of
concrete that represents Los Angeles in the modern times could have been avoided. To start with, the
one element I liked the most about this plan is the parkways. It was important for Los Angeles to have
a system of continuous landscaped parkways dedicated to pleasure travel and to act as lungs for a
rather polluted city. Even though after going through the plan, I m not quite adamant on the fact that
why was it dropped. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

elite behavior of the developers and political entrepreneurs and that they did struggle to improve the
urban environment. This book explains essentially where we are today in the Los Angeles and such
cities which lack the presence of usable parks, ironically by centering on what to avoid and what
actually didn t happen. To complete it, I would say it is strange that even today, many of the same
issues that beleaguered us about a century ago, still hang

A Very Brief Look at Ireland
An old myth claims that St.Patrick used his to scare all the snakes into sea. Therefore, there are no
snakes in Ireland. Ireland gained it s independence from Great Britain in 1937. The head of Ireland is
still under Britain s command. Before Ireland became a country, Ireland was covered in ice and snow,
during the the Last Glacial Maximum. The Last Glacial Maximum is the era when ice covered
northern Europe, Asia, and America, which was about 20,000 years ago. Ireland is the sixth richest
country in the world, which is surprising because it is mostly farm land.
Around 600 and 800 B.C. Celtic tribes began to settle on Ireland. Around the 12th century Britain took
the Irish s independence. During the potato famine, in the 1840s, farmers dug up potatoes then a day
after the potatoes became slimy, blackish, mass of rottenness . About 1 1/4 million Irish left their
homes. They took ships Canada and America hoping for a better life.
On 1916, Easter Monday, Ireland started a Rebellion. The IRA , Irish Republican Army, fought Britain
for five years to win independence for 26 southern counties. The other 6 counties are still under
Britain s control. This lead to the Troubles in the 1960 s which were acts of violence on the United
Kingdom Army. The United Kingdom, United States, and Ireland was a part of a process that helped
traders and sellers which is know as The Good Friday Agreement in 1988, in Northern Ireland. In

there are therapy group sessions with fellow officers that are experiencing the same issues; family

Choice In A White Heron
Choice in Naturalist and Realist Works Part of human nature is believing that an individual has choice
in what happens in his or her life. A literary style emerging after Romanticism, Realism, and a sub
genre of this style, Regionalism both argued that free will is existent among humans, even if this free
will is limited. A literary style that was influenced by Darwinism, Naturalism, posited that choice is an
illusion and an individual has no say in what happens in his or her life. Both of these styles offered an
interesting view of choice and how individuals are influenced to make their choices.
Realism is an American literary style that emerged after the Civil War. Some common characteristics

My love for music began before I was even born. In the womb, I listened to music. My mom was like

The Segregation And Subjugation Of African Americans
Political inequality has been an obstacle that many minority groups have encountered throughout
history. The segregation and subjugation of African Americans in the United States during the 1900s
was indifferent. Although innumerable people were opposed to the unfamiliar ideals of anti
segregation activists, George Edwin Taylor went against the standards of society, and explored new
civil morals. Through his endeavors, he was able to encourage people to divert from their accepted
beliefs and helped establish a foundation for the yet to come Civil Rights Movement. In the year 1857,
George Edwin Taylor was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to a free black, Amanda Hines, and slave,
Bryant Taylor. At the time of his birth, Arkansas was preparing for the forced removal of
approximately 700 free blacks. On February 12, 1859 the Free Negro Expulsion Act was enacted in
the state of Arkansas. All free blacks were ordered to leave the state by January 1, 1860, or they would
consequently be sold into slavery. Amanda Hines fled the state with her child to Alton, Illinois. In

The Great Commission Analysis
From the genesis of creation, God s mission is to motivate his creation (people) to work with the
resources he provides to bring forth new and good things and establish an order to a chaotic and
broken world. In fact, the world that God created is good, and when humans begin to work alongside
God in creation, things become very good (Genesis 1:31). Unfortunately, because of the fall of
humanity, God s creation strays away and falls short of God s original intent. As a result, the human
condition swings on a pendulum from good too bad while God s continues to reconcile humanity. God
first chose the nation of Israel, then sent Jesus and Jesus subsequent death and resurrection to continue

Five generations before me, my family was brought to America as slaves. They labored in fields and

the gospel. In spite of his station as a slave, Bishop Francis Asbury preached that Jesus died so that all
might be saved. In that moment, he begin to cry and even though he was a slave he accepted the
gospel message and became a Christian; a follower of the way. It is through that missionary who
joined God in God s mission that the Quick family and future generations came to know Christ. This
experience profoundly shaped my understanding that all means all. My missiology is immersed in this
concept because scripture clearly says all. There are no limitations to God s saving grace and that

Ants won t kill your maple tree directly (Acer spp.), but that doesn t mean that an ant infested maple
tree isn t at some risk. The holes and tunnels left behind by carpenter ants can make tree limbs weaker
and more likely to fall from the tree during windy weather. Holes made by ants may also make the tree

The biggest threat of ants in a maple tree, however, is that they will use the tree as a bridge to your

ants, getting rid of the aphids will deter the ants. Aphids can be hosed off the tree with a jet of water
from the garden hose. You can also spray the tree with an insecticidal soap for safe pest control with
no residual effects. To treat the ants directly, apply a systemic tree and shrub pesticide. This type of
pesticide is sprayed around the tree and taken up by its roots to provide insect protection for up to a
year. A systemic pesticide is best for the tree, since it doesn t require that you drill holes into

The Importance of Homework Essay
Students spend hours doing it, teachers spend hours checking it. Homework is sometimes a burden to
teachers and students but still it is necessary. Some people doubt homework s effectiveness, but
teachers and researchers agree homework is essential. Homework helps students get better grades in
school.
Some people don t know exactly what homework is. Homework is defined as an out of class activity
assigned to students as an extension or elaboration of classroom work(KidSource). There are three
types of homework teachers generally give out. The first is Practice assignments, they are assignments
that reinforce newly acquired skills or knowledge(KidSource). An example of these assignments is

Parents, students, and teachers all sometimes wonder how useful is homework? Though studies
examining the relationship between homework and school achievement have been inclusive(ERIC).
Still many teachers and researchers still agree that homework helps students achieve higher grades in
school. Schools that assigned homework frequently showed higher student achievement than schools
that assigned little homework(ERIC). This means that homework is working. Studies have generally
found that if teachers carefully plan homework, homework can be quite helpful(KidSource).
Homework has proven its effectiveness and is a very powerful factor in student performance.
Students should only spend enough time on homework so that the subject is reinforced and not just a
waste of time. The national PTA suggest that from K 3 grades there should be no more than 20
minutes a day, for 4 6 grades there should be 20 40 minutes of homework, and from 7 12 grades time
varies do to types of subjects and number of subjects taken(KidSource). Anymore than these
recommended amount of times is seen excessive by the national PTA. Surprisingly U.S. students are
working as hard as Asians: 24% of eighth graders do more then two hour of homework compared to
Japans 28% and Germanys 17%(Brimelow108). Are we working to hard, researchers don t think so,
U.S. student grades are improving. As of 1996 one in every sixth grader does more than an hour of

Senator Rubio Case Study
Descriptive representation may not have a positive and significant impact on a politician s agenda.
This case study is on Republican U.S. Senator Marco Rubio. He was born on May 28, 1971 in Miami,
Florida. His parents were born in Cuba, which makes Senator Rubio a Cuban American. He makes a
great case study to reflect on the opposite idea of descriptive representation in the political system. It
is essential to talk about his parents history with immigration in order to understand why he does not
correctly represent Latinos, especially Cuban Americans or other minority groups that he should be
representing. His parents immigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1956 before the rise of Fidel
Castro, which was in January 1959. When Senator Rubio was born, neither of his parents were U.S.

citizenship, and got naturalized in 1975. The second time that his grandfather immigrated to the U.S.
in 1962, he did it illegally, so he was detained, and under the risk of deportation. At the end, Senator
Rubio s grandfather was able to stay in the U.S. His grandfather was given legal status. According to
McClain Johnson Carew, Cubans entering the United States after Castro s rise to power in 1959
generally enjoyed handsome financial support from the US government and were encourage to seek
US citizenship (17). His grandfather ended up applying for a permanent resident status in 1966, which
got approved, right after the Cuban Adjustment Act, which is a federal law that gives Cuban refugees
permanent resident status under certain circumstances. There were other relatives of Senator Rubio,
who immigrated to the U.S. as refugees as

Social Institutions and Organized Crime Essay
Social Institutions and Organized Crime
Paul Blakey
University of Phoenix
CJA 384
30 January 2013
Social Institutions and Organized Crime Social Institutions are groups of people who have come
together for a common purpose. These institutions have formed a common bond. They have done
research and have concluded by joining they can achieve more. Some of the social institutions in the
local community are the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Cub Scouts, the Girl Scouts. There are generally
five different types of social institutions. They are political, educational, religious, economic, and
family. Each is filled with members of a common goal. Organized crime organizations have adopted
the philosophy of social institutions. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of those is the alien conspiracy theory. The alien conspiracy theory suggests the reasons for
criminal actions are because of outside influences. It proclaims that criminals have moved to the
United States and started a criminal organization here (Rogers, 2011). This theory is supported by the
movie makers in America. Most movies on organized crime portray the leaders of the organization as
foreigners. They walk, dress, and act a certain way. The alien conspiracy theory posits that organized
crime gained prominence in the 1860s in Sicily and that Sicilian immigrants are responsible for the
foundations of U.S. organized crime, which is made up of 25 or so Italian dominated crime families.
Also known as the La Cosa Nostra, the families are composed of wise guys or made men and number
about 1700 members (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007). This theory also suggests strong family bonds.
Because each member is of the same nationality it is easier to influence him to join the organization.
This is prevalent in organized crime. If one family member is a part of the organization, the outside
influence and loyalty may be enough to coerce others into the business. Another theory applicable to
criminal behavior is the rational choice theory. This theory occurs when people choose to commit a
crime after weighing the benefits and consequences of the action. Examples of this theory include a

Silas Brady s Narrative
With a snap of the reins and a click of his tongue, Silas Brady coaxed his horse into a faster pace,
causing the tiny yellow house on wheels to lurch and rumble behind him. His instincts detected
potential business as his professional eye admired the quaint scene at the bottom of the hill: a
clapboard house and barn, a small corral, and a large plot of land ready for planting. From his
position, the bright green canopy of an oak peeked above the roofline of the house. Aside from a
single grazing cow, the homestead was quiet and still. A tall, fair haired man of middling years
approached from behind the house to wait at the bottom of the porch steps though the lack of a
customary greeting was glaringly obvious. As a precaution, Silas stopped his wagon a short distance
while he set the brake and adopted a friendly mien knowing that an aggressive manner was
counterproductive for business. Good day to you! The name s Silas Brady, photographer by trade, he
announced. Since I m passing your farm on my way to town, perhaps you d like a picture of your own,
mister . . . . The screech of a screened door interrupted Silas, and a woman stepped out of the shadows.
Nodding in acknowledgment, he continued his pitch. Maybe one of you and the missus? I can t ...

Silas plucked two of the four handcrafted chairs from the dining table and set them side by side at one
end of the room. The Olssons, tidier now in their Sunday best, left him to enter through a closed door,
their movements rigid and awkward. Silas closed his ears to their soft rustlings and low murmurs
while they gathered their six year old son and daughter this he knew in his conversation with Karl
outside and he waited quietly until the family reappeared, noting the unearthly cast on the two smaller
faces before meeting Karl s bleak look. Motioning toward the designated chairs, Silas added gently,
Please, take a seat, and I ll do the

  • 2. Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky Essay Analysis of Firebird by Stravinsky Immediately we are introduced to the leitmotif, major and minor thirds, within a tritone. This returns at bars 15 18 and at various other parts in the suite of which I will later elaborate. Within the opening few bars the pizzicato and legato combined in the cello and bass section produces an ominous opening to the work. The base drum roll and the murky off beat and horn entry at bar 5 makes it clear that it is evil magic. One of Stravinsky s traits that often appears is how he uses tritones to represent evil magic, e.g. f# to C, shown in bars 11 and 12, and more simple harmony and chord progressions, e.g. dominant 7ths and 9ths to show good magic which can bee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bars silence leaves the audience in suspense wondering whether or not Ivan has managed to catch the Firebird, before a certain elegance added in the variations which has a waltz like lilt to it. The high register, quick rhythms and simple harmony represent good magic and has an uplifting feeling to it. The imagery is quite clear of a bird teasing Ivan mocking him as he can t quite catch her. In bar 3, the tonality becomes less clear, and a whole tone scale is used, this is yet another of Stravinsky s traits, he pushed these boundaries where other great composers were scared to use it. Stravinsky uses the piccolo to represent the Firebird taking to flight; this can be seen in 2 bars before figure 11. During the coda there is a feeling of speeding up without actually doing so. The flurry of descending triplet semi quavers could represent the Firebird falling slowly down, into Ivan s clutch. Stravinsky s use of orchestra shows that Ivan finally manages to catch her in the pantomime. (Pantomime used in the traditional sense, miming). The hand stopped horns in figure 20 represents Ivan actually capturing the Firebird, there is a first inversion augmented 6th and tritones heard three times during figure 20 this is the firebird trying to escape from Ivan s tight clutch. We hear once again the original leitmotif in semi quavers, retrograde inverted and simply retrograde. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The flame of competition has changed from he smokey yellow to intense white heat. For companies to survive and prosper they will have to have a vision, a mission and strategy (Johnson, 2001). The use of strategy in this well known quote from the Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Peter Elwood shows the importance strategic decisions plan in the modern era for organisations. To supplement this, strategy is theoretically defined as the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves advantages in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations (Johnson et al., 2005). • 5. Aristophanes Speech On Love And Happiness The philosopher I have chosen for this assignment is Plato, in Symposium. Based on the readings of The Speech of Aristophanes, the theorist Aristophanes states that the key to love and happiness is the search to finding ones other half , in which the couple becomes together or whole . In the quest to becoming one , the individuals find themselves in a lifelong togetherness, what some claim to be considered finding your soul mate When becoming whole the newly formed partnership embrace in sexual relations and share experiences with one another. In order to fully understand Aristophanes concept of erotic love, it is imperative to summarize and highlight details of the story in The Speech of Aristophanes. The form of Aristophanes speech, comes in as a myth of a story long ago where there were three genders: male, female and androgynous, all of which were twice what they humans are now. For example, two sets of hands and two sets of legs. Though the gods hated these beings, they knew they could not kill them, as forfeiting humans as sacrifices. So, in replace Zeus decided to cut the humans into two, but keeping them whole on either side, including their genitals. Because the humans, now half, had been whole for so long, they constantly had urges to find their other half to make them whole again, which begins Aristophanes theory of longing for one another. When found by another half, the couple would embrace in sexual activity and not want anything else, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Martin Luther King Jr Day Analysis It is interesting when we think about Martin Luther King Jr. Day. About the man behind the holiday. He embodied values of service, courage, compassion, dignity, and humility during his time as leader of the Civil rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. in his life and in his depiction in the movie Selma shows a man that believed that implementation of public policy should not be decided by those in power when they felt like administering it, but to force the hand of policymakers who did not permit the rights of all Americans equally through a unified voice of the people by the people. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very intellectual man who had a beautiful mind and heart when it came to the knowledge of what he was doing and how he did it. His leadership came from a fire that bred in him believing that what was going on was wrong. But he also looked to his Christian faith to guide him in his decisions and actions. Just like how Mahatma Gandhi had done years before through his Hindu faith to help India gain independence from Great Britain. Martin Luther King had the intelligence also to see that non violent actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Business Marketing Of Foreign Buyers Part II. Active marketing to foreign buyers Chapter 22. Decisions to make based on demand for your real estate and marketing budget To market to foreign buyers or not? This is the same powerful question as the famous To be or not to be? As a real estate seller of just one private property or a developer with many properties or a realtor you have to answer this question to yourself, having been equipped with all the preliminary information you can gather before you start doing anything. Marketing costs money and takes time, so, without thoughtful consideration and a solid marketing plan with a budget you do not have to start spending money and time. There are obvious situations where and when it is the only possibility to sell your property: your country or area is in economic and financial problems and thus local buyers do not buy. You have to answer Yes . There are less obvious situations when the local real estate market is in balance more or less right now, but you hear a lot around how other sellers, developers and realtors benefit from selling real estate to foreigners. Your choice then. Even in a hot seller s market when it is no problem to receive a quick offer from a local buyer, sometimes it makes sense to market to foreigners anyway as you can get a higher price from the foreign buyers under the circumstances. This was due to Roosevelt having to take on the task of getting America out of the Depression that It plunged into during the Herbert Hoover administration. The Great Depression happened through a myriad of events that ranged from bank failures to the stock market crashing multiple times in a short amount of time. The nation s economy was in turmoil and unemployment and poverty were at an all time high and something had to be done to stop this economic free fall. FDR and his political cabinet called the Brain Trust decided to take the Great Depression head on with a policy that included many reforms and an aggressive approach to unemployment. This policy would be known as the New Deal. The New Deals main goal was to help to end the Great Depression, FDR figured that the best way to do this would be to have the government be more hands on in the fight against the Great Depression. The approach of the New Deal was based on the government being more active and hands on, this lead to some individuals and factions to oppose his New Deal for various reasons . The opposition was mostly based on the reforms that were taking place on an economic level. Mommy won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and competed as a nomination for the Palme d Or; Ida won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In relation to the synopsis, the films are dichotomous, the former depicts the relationship between a single mother and her teenage son; the latter follows a young nun and the legacy of the Holocaust in post World War II Poland. Also, in terms of color and visual style the films diverge, Mommy utilizes bright colors and multiple closeups, whereas and Ida is in black and white and uses a multitude of cinematographic techniques. Both films represent divergent styles, but contain myriad elements for a visual analysis. Mommy is ultimately about an intense mother/son relationship. Steve s impulsive and violent behavior led to his temporary incarceration. Throughout the 2 hour and 19 minute run time, Diane and Steve attempt to rebuild their fraught relationship, with the major barrier being Steve s behavior and Diane s inability to provide him assistance. The story of Jezebel, although only told in a few chapters and verses, generated a reputation for her as one of the most vile and hated women in the Bible. It all began with King Ahab marrying her, which instigated the whole kingdom to worship Baal rather than YHWH. Next, Jezebel kills all the prophets of the Lord, and, in retaliation, Elijah kills 850 of the pagan priests. As soon as Jezebel gets word of this, she pledges to put Elijah to death. Her name is next mentioned in the story of Naboth and his vineyard. Ahab wishes to own Naboth s vineyard, and Naboth refuses to sell it to his king. Therefore, Jezebel takes action and writes letters in Ahab s name telling the nobles and elders Naboth was to be stoned to death for cursing God. When they reported back that the job was done, Ahab seized the vineyard he desired. In the last story of Jezebel, Jehu is anointed king of Israel by Elijah and kills Jehoram, Jezebel s only living son. Jehu then sets out for Jezebel to put her to death. She puts on her finest clothing and does her hair and makeup beautifully, as she expected his arrival. Her life and legacy end in a gruesome death being trampled by horses. Several commentators have opinions as to whether or not Jezebel was as heinous as so many people presume. Collectively, most of the commentators saw Jezebel as the driving force of evil in Kings. In Matthew Henry s commentary, he refers to the vineyard story and states, Never were more wicked orders given by any prince, than those Jezebel sent to the rulers of Jezreel. Additionally, he contributes to Jezebel s reputation as a she devil by directing others to us her story as an example of the power that Satan can have in the lives of disobedient people. Henry also views Ahab as a victim of Jezebel s said seduction and wickedness because Ahab had repented in a way that only might be seen of men. He concludes his commentary by discussing her reprehensible opposition to God and how she should be used as an illustration of evil to prevent others from following in her immoral path. • 21. The Constitution And The United Kingdom A constitution is often defined as a set of rules set to regulate the system of government within a state. Professor King in his Hamlyn Lecture defined the constitution as, the set of the most important rules that regulate the relations among the different parts of the government of a given country and also the relations between the different parts of the government and the people of the country . Unlike some other democratic countries, the United Kingdom does not have a single written document entitled The Constitution but rather it has what is referred to as an unwritten constitution . The UK constitution is made up from a wide variety of sources, some of which are conventions while others are as more official such as laws found in EU law. The constitution can be found in a number of documents such as Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, the Act of Settlement and the Parliament Acts. A common source of the constitution includes Acts of Parliament, there exists the argument that many of the Acts that are currently on the statute book are constitutional laws, this can be noted in the case Thoburn v City Sunderland (2002) , where Laws LJ makes a distinctions between what he termed as ordinary statutes and constitutional statutes . Similarly decisions of courts can also become a source of legislation, as can the legislative supremacy of parliament, A.V. Large organizations nowadays use a database system to address this task. However, the earliest solution is a file based system, and it is still in use in many small firms today. File based system is a set of application programs that provides services for users to keep and process data. Each program is independent and can define and manage its own data. When users need to look up some information, they go to the filing system and search from the first entry until the desired result is found. Although the file based system can be an effective approach sometime, it does suffer from two detrimental problems:
  • 23. ← Isolation of data. When stored in a file based system, data is kept within separate files in an isolated manner. It would be a rather difficult task when users want to access relevant information from two different files. ← ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows through representing the best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. Going through the introductory parts made me realize that had this plan, which itself is extraordinary in its latitude and farsightedness, been implemented the congestive mass of concrete that represents Los Angeles in the modern times could have been avoided. To start with, the one element I liked the most about this plan is the parkways. It is essential to talk about his parents history with immigration in order to understand why he does not correctly represent Latinos, especially Cuban Americans or other minority groups that he should be representing. It proclaims that criminals have moved to the United States and started a criminal organization here (Rogers, 2011). This theory is supported by the movie makers in America. Most movies on organized crime portray the leaders of the organization as foreigners. They walk, dress, and act a certain way. The alien conspiracy theory posits that organized crime gained prominence in the 1860s in Sicily and that Sicilian immigrants are responsible for the foundations of U.S. organized crime, which is made up of 25 or so Italian dominated crime families. Also known as the La Cosa Nostra, the families are composed of wise guys or made men and number about 1700 members (Lyman amp; Potter, 2007). This theory also suggests strong family bonds. Because each member is of the same nationality it is easier to influence him to join the organization. This is prevalent in organized crime. If one family member is a part of the organization, the outside influence and loyalty may be enough to coerce others into the business. Another theory applicable to criminal behavior is the rational choice theory. This theory occurs when people choose to commit a crime after weighing the benefits and consequences of the action. • 44. Silas Brady s Narrative With a snap of the reins and a click of his tongue, Silas Brady coaxed his horse into a faster pace, causing the tiny yellow house on wheels to lurch and rumble behind him. His instincts detected potential business as his professional eye admired the quaint scene at the bottom of the hill: a clapboard house and barn, a small corral, and a large plot of land ready for planting. From his position, the bright green canopy of an oak peeked above the roofline of the house. Aside from a single grazing cow, the homestead was quiet and still. A tall, fair haired man of middling years approached from behind the house to wait at the bottom of the porch steps though the lack of a customary greeting was glaringly obvious. As a precaution, Silas stopped his wagon a short distance while he set the brake and adopted a friendly mien knowing that an aggressive manner was counterproductive for business. Good day to you! The name s Silas Brady, photographer by trade, he announced. Since I m passing your farm on my way to town, perhaps you d like a picture of your own, mister . . . . The screech of a screened door interrupted Silas, and a woman stepped out of the shadows. Nodding in acknowledgment, he continued his pitch. Maybe one of you and the missus? I can t ...
