The story follows a teenage boy in 1930s Philippines who buys pandesal (bread of salt) every morning from a bakery near the house of his classmate Aida, of whom he has grown fond. He joins a private band in hopes of earning money to buy Aida a gift. However, during a performance, he embarrasses himself in front of Aida. Humiliated, he realizes he is still too immature to face reality, like the pandesal that is not yet ready in the bakery. The story explores themes of young love across social classes and the boy's coming of age.

"May Day Eve" is a short story written by Filipino National Artist Nick Joaquin. Written after World War II, it became one of Joaquin's “signature stories” that became a classic in Philippine literature in English. Together with Joaquin's other stories like The Mass of St. Sylvester, Doña Jeronima and Candido’s Apocalypse, May Day Eve utilized the theme of "magic realism" long before the genre was made a trend in Latin American novels. Published in 1947, it is a story originally intended for adult readers, but has later become a required and important reading material for Filipino students.
Marcelo Hilario del Pilar y Gatmaitán was born on August 30, 1850 in Cupang (now Barangay San Nicolás), Bulacán, Bulacan. He was baptized "Marcelo Hilario" on September 4, 1850.

Chapter 19- el filibusterismo published in ghent(1891)Alvin Bugaoisan

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

6. + Summary
The story is about a teenage boy who buys pandesal or “bread of salt” because
of its wonderful flavor. Every day he walks by the house of the old Spaniard’s niece
Aida whom the boy liked.
He could follow her everyday to school. He would also think about how he
would confess his feelings for her during classes. He joins Pete Saez’ private band
Minviluz Orchestra. One of the reasons he joined was to save money tobuy a brooch
for Aida. Also it was his dream to be a violinist. Though his aunt did not want him to
pursue his passion.
One night when the band was performing the boy did something
embarrassing that Aida saw. Embarrassed he walked out in shame. He was probably
thinking that because of what he had done. There is no chance for Aida to like him
back. Pete led him home and passes by baker’s on the way. They ordered pandesal
but the bread was still not ready.

Relevance:
- The Story, to its very core, is very Filipino.
Pan De Sal as a staple food of the masses.
Musicians/Art Performers shown as low-class citizens
(Eat last at parties).
Somewhat of a touch on colonial mentality
But especially, this shows about a Filipino’s pride in the
ways they show their class eg. Parties
And lastly, this shows a Filipino’s take on puppy love as it
may seem, and the perennial “katorpehan” of Filipino
males.
