The British School in New Delhi is the first school in India to receive a 5-star GRIHA rating for green building. It uses various sustainable strategies including preserving existing trees, minimizing air and water pollution during construction, optimizing energy and water usage, installing renewable energy technologies, and using sustainable building materials. Some specific strategies are using sprinklers to reduce landscape water demand by 56.05%, installing water efficient fixtures to reduce building water usage by 65.3%, and generating over 30% of internal lighting and HVAC needs through a 40 kWp solar PV system. Over 90% of ceiling materials and more than 70% of flooring materials are also low-energy options.
