The United States Of The World War II Essay
On December 7th, 1941, the United States of America was heaved into World War II after Japan
attacked the American naval convoy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day after the Japanese s
surprise attack, America and Great Britain both declared war on Japan. The Second World War was
histories greatest and most noteworthy armed conflict. It served as the environment for the current
arrangement of security and intellect, and for the postwar power stability that shaped the agenda for
the Cold War. World War II partook with around 50 allied nations, one of the most renowned was The
United States of America.3 The American industry provided almost two thirds of all of the allied
military equipment produced during the war, and because of this, in four years alone, Americas
industrial production doubled in size even with it already being the largest at the time. After the attack,
everyday living throughout the nation was considerably affected. Normal goods such as food, gas, and
clothing were rationed heavily.1 The communities created scrap metal drives and changed the standard
role of women in order to build necessary weaponries to win the war.1 Even though America was
experiencing great economic growth, undoubtedly this war and its associated atrocities would have a
death toll of around 50 million military and civilian peoples, in the military deaths alone The United
States of America lost 400,000.1 World War II not only disturbed the economy of the United States,
but it also

How Did The Cold War Affect The Middle East
What impact did the Cold War have on the Middle East?
We see the cold war as a period of hostility, which ended in 1989 between the Soviet Union and the
USA in which neither country fired shots at each other directly but engaged in proxy wars to
propagate their opposing ideological views and expand their influence globally. The tentacles of the
opposing sides spread globally and the Middle East was no exception and it is impossible to know
what influence Oil had. In 1953 the countries of the Middle East were developing, post colonial and
non aligned but the shah of Iran, supported by the USA was being challenged pro communist Iranian
nationalists.
In 1955 Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey and Britain formed the Central Treaty Organization (Cento), ...

On July 14, 1958, the Iraqi monarchy was overthrown in a military coup. The new government was
led by General Abdul Karim Qasim who withdrew Iraq from the Baghdad Pact, opened diplomatic
relations with Soviet Union and adopted a non aligned stance. The organization dropped the name
Baghdad Pact in favor of CENTO at that time.
CENTO did little to prevent the expansion of Soviet influence to non member states in the area.
Whatever containment value the pact might have had was lost when the Soviets leap frogged the
member states, establishing close military and political relationships with governments in Egypt,
Syria, Iraq, the People s Democratic Republic of Yemen, Somalia, and Libya. By 1970, the USSR had
deployed over 20,000 troops to Egypt, and had established naval bases in Syria, Somalia, and P.D.R.
Yemen.
The Iranian revolution spelled the end of the organization in 1979, but in reality, it essentially had
been finished since 1974, when Turkey invaded Cyprus. This led the United Kingdom to withdraw
forces that had been earmarked to the alliance,[citation needed] and the United States Congress halted
Turkish military aid despite two Presidential vetoes.[5] With the fall of the Iranian monarchy,
whatever remaining rationale for the organization was lost. Future U.S. and British defense
agreements with regional countries such as Pakistan, Egypt, and the Persian Gulf states were

O Pioneers
History 2112
November 19, 2009
Is Alexandra still considered a feminist, although Cather
positioned her in a male role throughout the novel O Pioneers?
Although Alexandra was depicted as a tall, strong girl, (p.10) which is typically viewed as
characteristics of a male, she was indeed a feminist in Willa Cather s novel O Pioneers! In the
introduction of the novel, an argument arises due to the differences of O Pioneers! in contrast to some
of Cather s other pieces as well as several other novels of that time period. Marilee Lindemann
references that law and custom in most (if not all) Western countries severely limited what are girl

At this point, Alexandra had spent numerous days and nights alone, those days when she only had her
little brother, Emil, to accompany her; however, he eventually went off to school and to pursue his
own career. As a result, Alexandra was left to confide in her neighbor Marie who didn t quite
understand her, herself, and her dreams.
Throughout Alexandra s childhood, she often dreamed of pleasures from a man, certainly, who carried
her, but he was like no man she knew... (p.112) and these fancies continued as she grew older. She
often slept in on Sunday mornings and during her lengthy sleep hours she accidentally fancied about a
man whom she knew nothing about. These dreams appeared during times when she found herself the
most fatigued from the unbearable work on the divide; we grow hard and heavy here (p.69).
Surprisingly, Alexandra became disappointed with herself after the epiphany elapsed. She would rise
hastily, angry with herself, and go down to the bath house... (p.112) to cleanse her body. As
incorporated in the novel, these feelings expressed more characteristics of Alexandra s feminism as
she daydreamed about a man in her life. However, little did she know that her dreams would soon
become a reality.
During times when the Divide experienced famine, most of its residents sold their property and
migrated to other, more profitable lands. Among those who

Pete Norris Alternate Ending
A slap in the face, a smart ass retort, a fake nonchalant smile, or even a hint of fear, and tremor in her
limbs or voice. Pete Norris had expected one of those, or a combination of all, after he d gripped the
woman s throat, and the feeling of her hand uselessly swatting at his own, displaying his superior
strength as he slowly increased the pressure, brought forth the beginnings of an erection. The one
reaction he didn t expect was a kiss, and the murderer s eyes widened, not in shock, but utter
confusion, when Analise Helm, released from his grip, pressed the soft swell of her breasts to his
chest, and mashed her mouth against his. Instinctively, he raised his arm to her hip to push her away
and regain control, but before he knew it, the kiss was over, and all he was left with as she walked out
the door, was the taste of her lipstick, and lingering sensation of her tongue against his. Pete Norris
stood there, momentarily stunned, then wiped his lips with his sleeve, shook his head, before a loud
chuckle escaped him. Analise Helm had turned out be much more than he d ever could have bargained

Ishmael Chapter Reflection Paper
The chapters introduce some of the effects hunger has on human physiology and behavior. I learned
the glimpse of disrespect, discords among the villagers, forceful recruits from the rebels, misbehavior
among the youth and lack of trust amongst the villagers because of experience from torture, mass
killings, mutilations, and wars. It is vivid that one doesn t have to be in the military to suffer psychosis
issues such as depression and PTSD as reflected in Ishmael, who felt these and expresses the feelings
multiple times in the assigned chapters. I learned from the character of a mother with a five year old
boy, who accommodated the six homeless and hungry boys that forcefully grabbed the two hairs of
corn from her son. All these greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally, I cannot fathom the reality of not experiencing nor enjoying my youthful years, the
experience Ismael missed in his growth development which makes me feel bad for him. Ishmael never
gets an answer to know if his family (grand parents, parents, and siblings) is dead or alive, which is a
pain he bears for life.
Furthermore, I think I changed from the way I participated in the discourse to express more about how
I feel and how it has impacted me rather than expressing more on what happens to Ishmael in the
chapters. Based on the discourse, I have changed knowing that even the next person to me might be a
victim of one assault or the other. I have changed to be more sensitive to people s feelings and
behaviors. I believe my facilitation is an effective one because I actively got everyone engaged,
empowered them to express their personal feelings, made them observed the ground rules, and utilized
the text book by incorporating in text citations to the discourse from Holtz (2017) that expresses how
the boy soldiers are involuntarily recruited by being kidnapped from their villages and forced to
commit atrocities upon threat of their own death (p. 152). At a point in time I have to offer fruits

Case Study Of Logistics At Ambuja Cement
Over the years ACC has reported an average capacity consumption rate of 86%, and Ambuja s average
utilisation pace stands high at 93%. During certain years, Ambuja Cements somehow managed to
produce even more than their total installed capacity. So the company has not only added their
capacity at a rapid, swift, pace, but has also attained high utilisation rates throughout most of its
operations. This shows the top level of efficiency in Ambuja Cement s operations.
Logistics at Ambuja Cement
Inbound logistics today is highly inefficient. Most retailers use multiple systems to manage the
process and so suffer from fragmented visibility. Prioritisation and scheduling of orders are done on an
ad hoc basis, with little consideration of current demand and inventory, while scarce resources, such as
dock door and yard capacity, are often poorly utilised.

The costs of key inputs coal, power and transport by rail or road are spiraling year on year. The coal is
of poor quality, with high ash and low calorific value content. There is need to introduce competition
for improving quality, regularity in supply and reduced prices. The power from public utilities is of
poor quality due to frequent power cuts and fluctuating voltage.
Transport by rail or road is a cost intensive component and amounts to almost 15 20 per cent of the
delivered cost to the consumers. The railway tariff is high and need to be rationalised for an essential
product like cement. Road transport on the other hand, provides limited alternative because of
inadequacy of road network and rising cost of road transport due to continuously rising fuel cost.
Inland water transport is eco friendly and cheap mode especially for bulk commodities like cement.
Coastal shipping and inland waterways will help in bringing down the transportation cost.

Reconstruction and Industrialization
Assignment 1: America s Post Civil War Growing Pains Reconstruction and Industrialization 1865
1900 Four years after the first shots were fired at Fort Sumter the Civil War ended with the Union s
Victory over the Confederacy. Though the war was over, there were still many problems that needed to
be resolved in order to reunite the states as a nation. The time period in which steps were taken to
rebuild the nation is known as reconstruction. Reconstruction lasted from 1865 until 1877. The
influence of reconstruction can be seen in the society and also in politics during that time period.
Following Reconstruction the nation had to rebuild its economy; industrialization brought in more

292). The expansion of railroads was also a great advancement made during the industrial revolution.
Railroads were built throughout the country and allowed for good to be transported more easily,
cheaper, and more reliable (Schultz 2012, p. 293). With industrialization came more jobs, and because
majority of industrialization occurred in big cities this encouraged farmers to leave the fields and
moved to cities to work in factories (Schultz 2012, p. 293). With the constant growth of businesses
and manufacturers in the north, the population of northern cities grew. In a forty year time span the
population on New York City grew by 1.2 million people (Schultz 2012, p. 302). This growth was
called urbanization. Since the cities were growing at such a rapid pace building developers cut codes
and built make shift buildings called tenements for people to reside (Schultz 2012, p.302). Tenements
were low income apartment buildings. These apartments were small and cramped and sometimes
referred to as railroad flats because their layout was similar to that of the box railroad cars (Apartment
House, Encyclopedia Britannica). With the high demand of materials and jobs factories were being
built in the same manner as the tenements. These buildings did not follow building codes and resulted
in many fires (Schultz 2012, p. 303). Perhaps one of the most devastating fires was that of the Triangle

Essay The Art Cowboy
Booze, cigarettes, sex, beer, curses, affairs, abuse, paint: All of those are factors in Jackson Pollock s
life, however, one stands out above all as the most important one, paint. America s greatest painter,
born in Cody, Wyoming on January 28, 1912, had a deeper connection to this colorful, flowing liquid
than anyone else in history. Blood did not run through his veins, but oil and pigment, tar and sand did.
He became something else while he painted. He became his painting. No other painter in history had
been able to do what Jackson Pollock did. Jackson pushed past any boundaries in the world of art. He
created something new, and at the time no one had been able to do that. Jackson Pollock shocked the

It was after he moved to Long Island that he discovered what he was to be truly famous for, his drip
paintings. According to the Smithsonian Museum of Art, Pollock began working on the ground, on a
not stretched canvas, throwing and dripping raw materials such as sand, tar, and paint on the canvas
(2). This was of painting without subject matter is known as action painting (2). Indicated by one
source, he needed to view his painting from all angles and step around it (National Gallery of Art 2).
This is part of the technique and action painter uses to get into his or her painting. He had developed
the ability to become completely part of his painting (2). In the film Pollock, when Krasner discovers
Pollock s new way of painting she says, You ve done it Pollock. You ve cracked it open. This is
exactly what Jackson did, he cracked open the art world, exposing new skin and breaking all the
traditions. Rugoff indicates that Pollock, with strong influence, had changed painting from a
traditional compositional technique to something else, making his paintings look more as sculptures
(442). Along with the finished product, the method Pollock used to paint was out of the ordinary.
Pollock painted physically, in almost a performance art technique (National Gallery of Art 2). His
movements could not be repeated, however, the artwork always came out how the artist wanted it to

During a follow up notification on August 9 NYMEX further notified Amaranth that they should not

complied with NYMEX s directions and subsequently reduced its September and October positions.
However, at the same time Amaranth increased its positions in September and October in ICE
contracts and as a results increased their overall positions in natural gas. The events that followed in
late August and September led to huge losses with Amaranth losing significant value.
The losses were created due to overconfidence, lack of transparency, and lack of risk management.
Amaranth enjoyed huge profits and thought prices would just keep rising. There was no
communication between Hunter and the management team. Also, investors had no knowledge that the
majority of the portfolio was invested in natural gas positions. Leverage played a huge role in the
losses. A hedge fund will typically borrow money, with certain funds borrowing sums many times
greater than the initial investment. If a hedge fund has borrowed $9 for every $1 received from
investors, a loss of only 10% of the value of the investments of the hedge fund will wipe out 100% of
the value of the investor s stake in the fund, once the creditors have called in their loans.

How Congestion Growth Affects Income Growth
Our primary interest is to identify how congestion growth affects income growth in a metropolitan
region. In Table 2 and 3, the results of the simultaneous equation models show that the coefficient
estimates for congestion growth are negative and significant at the 10% level. That is, congestion
growth has a negative effect on income growth in both 2000s and 1990s. Specifically, every one
percentage increase in congestion growth leads to a 0.07% and a 0.19% decrease in income growth
during 2000s and 1990s, respectively. As expected, the results show that congestion growth has a
negative effect on income growth. In addition, the initial condition of traffic congestion is negatively
associated with income growth in 1990s, meaning that higher levels of initial traffic congestion
negatively affects household income. However, it is not statistically significant in 2000s.
The coefficient estimate for the employment growth is statistically positive at the 1% level in 1990s.
Specifically, all else being equal, every one percentage increase in employment growth leads to a
0.60% increase in income growth during the period. This result supports notion that employment
growth raises wages and thus produce positive wage growth (Lewis, et al., 2002). This is because
positive employment growth provides more available jobs, which attracts job seekers. Increased
population affects employment by increasing demand and services and providing a larger workforce
as well. Such shifts in regions

Starting in 2011, Syria went into civil war, with the country being destabilized by fighting between
rebel forces and the Syrian Government. Recently ISIS, a terrorist group, joined in on the fighting,
taking land from the government and the rebels. Responding to this, the United States has started
bombing ISIS, becoming involved in the situation in Syria. I believe that the US should not be become
involved militarily against the Syrian government while continuing to bomb ISIS, as preventing ISIS
from becoming more powerful is important to prevent terrorism. We should stick to only bombing the
terrorist group, as sending in troops would only cause more problems. On the other hand, sending in

Roman Funeral Eulogy
The upper class
The class in society a Roman held, played a huge role in how elaborate the funeral ceremony was, and
how well the body was preserved.
The wealthy would be guarentted an elaborate ceremony. The body of the deceased would be on
display for mourning for a lengthy period of time, and treated with extreme care, as explained earlier.
The body would never be left alone as it was belived this would be bad luck for the deceaseds
afterlife. After the mourning period, the funeral wpuld take place. It is a common misperception that
the funeral was a big parade, when in reality it was a quiet affair, and the funeral procession was more
of a celebration.
A Eulogy was usually only read for the very wealthy, differing from how funerals are conducted today.
However these were usually resrved only for the families with links to power. An example of how a
eulogy would go, is seen in Julius Caesars eulogy to his Aunt Julia, known as laudatio Iuliae amitae.

Roman society was truly all about the wealth a person had in everything that was done. Death was one
of the very few things however to where even the poorest romans were treated decently. This is
because it was viewed politically and socially right to lay a soul to rest. If the wealthy didn t assist the
lower class with this, they would be haunted by the evil spirits (or so they believed). For this reason,
burial soceities were formed, known as the collegia. This meant that each week, citizens in the lower
class would put a small amount of money towards this, meaning that when they died, the collegia

Male Gaze In The Male Gaze
The Male Gaze is a phrase coined by Laura Mulvey, in which she examines how through media, the
portrayal of women has evolved and is seen through the eyes of the male perspective. After the 1960 s
sexual revolution, films started to incorporate women as a more objectified aspect, demonstrated by
the visual representation of how they provocatively use their bodies.
In this essay we will be specifically examining the male gaze in the 1999 s cult classic, Fight Club
from both the protagonist and antagonist view and how we as the audience view ourselves, dissected
from the way the characters view themselves.
Fight Club is based on a book by Chuck Palahniuk, centred around a heavily depressed man (Narrator)

Similarly to the Mirror Stage , theorised by Lacan, he has identified his own trait in the opposite sex.

Description And Rationale Of Research Methodologies
III. RESEARCH METHODS USED IN STUDY
A. Description and rationale of research methodologies The focus of my research relied on numerous
different sources, including surveys of the city, interviewing the manager, questioning the employees
while asking them to fill out a survey. I used various resources to obtain my information using
surveys, interviews, and questioning the employees of the store. The primary goal of the survey was to
enhance my understanding of the imperative issues they face when trying to motivate them to work
hard. In other words, I tried to understand how the workers viewed management and analyze the
different ways I can inspire them to be more productive.
Forms of Research Goals of Research
Secondary 1. Gather background information on the store s services and operations. 2. Gain insight
into the current market segments and growing sectors of the population, along with generational data.
3. Find out what customers and the market think about the store s current state.
Primary 1. Information about the store s current productivity enhancing program, target market, and
other basic yet necessary numerical and qualitative data to develop a conception of the current state of
the store 2. Find out the manager s opinion on employee engagement strategies and how it affects the
stores productivity. 3. What customers and current employees think of the management and find
possible ways to create a more productive environment for the employees to work in.

AIS 3121 Theories of International Relations
Are companies more powerful than nation state in international relations?
Chak Shu Fai, 52626878
Introduction
This essay will focus on the influential relations between companies and nation states in international
relations. It is a serious issue because companies have raised the importance in international relations,
especially non governmental organizations (NGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).
According to the data collected by the Union of International Associations, there were over 66,000
international organizations, include NGOs and IGOs, in 300 countries and territories in 2013. More
approximately 1,200 new organizations are added each year (Sheldon, 2014). The major increasing
numbers of the international organizations is one of the evidence to show their powerful status in
international relations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, it functions as a response to problems of incomplete information, transaction costs and
other barriers to improve the efficiency and welfare for their members (Barnett Finnemore, 1999). The
concept of powerful international organizations also can be found from professor Weiler (2003),
international organizations have increasingly themselves interpreted their powers in an expansive
manner that blurs the role of State consent, and States have increasingly conferred broader public
powers of governance on international organizations. There is no doubt that international
organizations have taken a deeper role in international relation, but it has different degrees of
influence toward small nation states and big countries. In order to have a clearer picture of
international organization s influence in international relations, the essay is divide in two part. First, it

Power Of The Fittest By Richard M Emerson Essay
POWER DEPENDENCE RELATION
INTRODUCTION
When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful Malala Yousafzai
Power is a term that breaks all boundaries and establishes its intensity. The concept of power has pre
domitantly existed in the society. It has become the prerogative of human survival as power has
become the ticket to suppress others and move ahead in the society. As Charles Darwin formulated the
theory of survival of the fittest the very nature of power becomes evident. Richard M Emerson an
formulated the famous Power Dependence relation on the basis of these paramaters. In the very
beginning of his theory Emerson states that there is an existence of ambiguities surrounding the terms
power , authority , legitimacy and power structures .The Power Dependence relations attempts to
bring about a sense of balance. According to this theory, the dependence a person has on another
brings up the concept of power .1 Emerson brings forth a similar concept as presented by Max Weber
whose presentation was basically a typology rather than an organized theory of power. Emerson brings
about an argument that says that social power is in dire needs of a systematic treatment. He criticizes
the common norm of treating power as an attribute of a person or group. He also proceeds to rank
order persons by some criterion of power and this ordering is called the power structure . So to wind it
up in definable terms we can say

The Effect Of Measuring Device Measures On Students From...
Introduction Our report focused on students from Texas A M Psychology class where each was asked
to rate their self esteem level. We have looked at two terms; reliability and validity which were used in
the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale to help assess individuals self esteem. According to the book
Essentials of Statistics of Behavioral Science by authors Frederick J. Gravetter and Larry B. Wallnau
(2014) they define reliability as how consistent a study or measuring device is. A measurement is said
to be reliable or consistent if the measurement can produce similar results if used again in similar
circumstances. Along with that they define validity as an indication of whether the measuring device
measures what it claims to. An example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without reliability and validity it would be very difficult to decide which research should be trusted
and which should be completely disregarded. The main goal of this report was to assess reliability and
validity through the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale where participants rated their level of self esteem
from 1 7. A 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7 indicating that they strongly agree with that
trait. Along with this we used Cronbachs alpha to indicate the consistency within the scale. Method
Participants at Texas A M University (N=33) were asked to report their age, which ranged from 19 to
28years of age and their gender. Twenty five of the participants were female while the remaining eight
were males. The average age of participants that was frequently reported was 20 years (SD=1.97). A
total of 10 items were recorded (Appendix A, Appendix B, Appendix C, Appendix D, Appendix E,
Appendix F, Appendix G, Appendix H, Appendix I, Appendix J). Each student was asked to write
which trait they felt related to how they felt about themselves. For this section we used Rosenberg Self
Esteem Scale, where a 7 point Likert scale was used, a 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7
indicating that they strongly agree with that trait. Throughout this report there were 5 out of the 10
traits that were reverse coded which refers to flipping the category values (i.e. 1 becomes 7, 2
becomes 6, 3 becomes 5.,etc.).

Solar Renewable Energy System
In brewing industry, 80% of overall final energy consumption is used in the form of thermal energy
where solar thermal can be used for brewing processes as below: steam generation, malting process,
stopping germination of grains, air cooling, conservation with hot air, power supplying of washing
machines, wither and kiln processes. Malting plants and breweries consume heat for their thermally
driven processes at temperature level ranges between 25°C to 120°C. It seems feasible to supply heat
at this temperature level which is not higher than the actual amount required but in reality the it is
often decided by the consumer which needs the highest temperature. The integration of solar
renewable energy system is necessary to reduce the exergy losses and CO2 emissions [17,21,24,25].
To utilize the organic matter from brewing residues, optimized heat recovery can supply its thermal
energy demand over resources. Theoretically, the full energy potential is not utilized so the pathway is
the conventional means of energy. However, the conversion of heat from energy gained from
renewable energy resources can ensure environment friendly beer production process for future. To
increase the overall energy efficiency, the integration of solar heat energy gained from solar thermal
collector technologies can be considered as a prospective alternative to fulfill the demands of typical
low temperature process heat.

Why Have Interpretations of Oliver Cromwell Changed over...
Oliver Cromwell was born in 25 April 1599. Cromwell Died on 3 September 1658. He rose from
fairly humble beginnings to become the most victorious military and political leader of the Civil Wars,
who was part of the joint republican, military and parliamentarian effort that caused the downfall of
the Stuart monarchy as a result of the English Civil War, and was consequently invited by his associate
leaders to assume a head of state role in 1653. As such, Cromwell ruled as Lord Protector for a five
year segment (1653 58) of the 11 year period of Republican Commonwealth and settlement rule of
England, and technically of Ireland, Wales and Scotland. As one of the commanders of the New
Model Army, he played an essential role in the defeat of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By contrast, by the 1930 s and 1940 s many historians thought Cromwell was a cruel military dictator.
This was because in the 1930s and 1940s most scholars saw him as a treacherous dictator, along the
lines of Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler. In recent decades nearly all the scholars have been favourable.
During his lifetime, some areas painted him as a fraud encouraged by power for example, The
Machiavellian Cromwell and The Juglers Discovered, both part of an attack on Cromwell by the
Levellers after 1647; present him as a Machiavellian figure. After his death and public humiliation
there were many accusations and a few encouraging descriptions, such as John Spittlehouse s A
Warning Piece Discharged which compared him to Moses, rescuing the English by taking them
securely through the Red Sea of the civil wars.[8] The great royalist historian Edward Hyde, 1st Earl
of Clarendon, in his History of the Rebellion and Civil Wars in England (1667) acknowledged that
Cromwell will be looked ahead by posterity as a brave bad man . Clarendon argued that Cromwell s
rise to power had been helped not only by his Great Spirit and energy, but also by his brutality. The
nobility was particularly argumentative to Cromwell, in large part because of his well built request to
the ordinary yeoman. Today most historians see Cromwell as a troubled and complicated

Psychiatrists require the person to answer multiple choice questions or explain the meanings of

training, which is why many patients can go several years before being properly diagnosed. (Peacock,

unbalanced Neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemicals produced by the brain and they work
in conjunction with hormones to carry out all of the body s essential functions. Noradrenaline,

Gay Conversion Therapy Case Study
The Supreme Court rejected a request by a Christian minister and therapist to consider a case against a
ban on the so called gay conversion therapy in the state of California.
The dismissal that came on Monday is the second one that the high court has given in three years.
California adopted a law in 2012 prohibiting licensed therapists from offering sessions that are
intended to change the sexual orientation of clients under the age of 18. The law was challenged
initially on the basis that it violated rights to free speech, but that argument was rejected by a federal
appeals court.

was constitutional. The court said that minors are free to

Women In Lysistrata
So often we imagine the people of the past as, if not quite stodgy, then definitely as less sexual than
the current generation. Aristophanes Lysistrata, takes that idea and turns it on its head, proving beyond
a shadow of a doubt that people have always been sexual beings with appetites similar to our own.
Aristophanes excels at the bawdy double entendre and certainly this play can be enjoyed as nothing
more than what it presents itself as, a farcical sexual comedy, but that would be doing it a great
disservice. Aristophanes used the comedic situations and the women in Lysistrata and their struggle
against a small group of old men, as a safe way to express his criticisms of the ongoing Peloponnesian
War and the current government. The basic plot of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(1.42 45) By having the characters admit they are lazy, alcoholic and lustful, it makes their role as
main characters funny and the situation on the ridiculous side, otherwise the author s critique of the
war, through the play, may not have been received well. Aristophanes must use women to couch his
complaints against the government, because if he had used men doing the same things (occupying the
citadel, taking over the money), it may have been seen as a call to arms rather than a commentary on
their society. When such foolish creatures have to tell men what to do, the war the men are fighting
must be pretty foolish indeed, he seems to say. Aristophanes uses the low status of women in Athens

Potential Market for marketing
Due to the unique nature of the association(as a self financed social enterprise), the potential market
for the association should not quite different to normal private companies/ profit making
organizations. The potential market for the association should be surely the seniors in need in the
community, but also the generous donors, volunteers, the media and even the Government. Their
support on the association will be of paramount importance to sustain the quality service provided to
the clients, such as the provision of necessary funding for daily operation, human resources, training
and guidance. (Hellinger, 1987)
Future Customers
The future customers of the association will not be likely to change much with the previous customers.

those under financial difficulties. In addition, with the increase in proportion of aged people in the

Analysis Of Pablo Picasso s Guernica
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words and that art is an expression of a human s creativity
sometimes relating to a specific theme or event. Within pictures it is easy to recognize the story going
on most of the time because it is usually a direct unobscured scene, however art is more difficult due
to human creativity. Looking back at art history, various painters and sculptors created images inspired
within their life that reflected some type of teaching or value, and telling stories without saying a
single word. Pablo Picasso is one example of these painters as one looks at one of his most famous
paintings which is Guernica. An average person would look at the painting and just see random figures
and odd shapes, but when taking more time to evaluate the art work one sees the true meaning of the
pain and suffering during the bombing of Guernica. The women and children were depicted as
defenseless and innocent and presented by Picasso as the perfection to mankind. By portraying them
as such, Pablo Picasso sent the message that the assault on the women and children was an assault on
the core of mankind. But how does the meaning of art and pictures relate to our church that stand at
Sacred Heart University? Well, not only does the church contain mosaics and artwork inside, but the
whole church itself is a big piece of art that sends a message about our school and community.
Walking by the church someone may not recognize the meaning behind the church but like any

Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown and History Essay
Young Goodman Brown and History
Q. D. Leavis states that perhaps the persecuting aspect of their way of life was peculiarly present to
Hawthorne because of the witch hanging judge and the Quaker whipping Major among his ancestors
(30). This is a reference to one instance of historical allusion in Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young
Goodman Brown. This essay will explore a variety of historical incidences referred to in this short
story.
Clarice Swisher in Nathaniel Hawthorne: a Biography states:

And it was I that brought your father a pitch pine knot, kindled at my own hearth, to set fire to an

Notice the allusion to the historical episode from Hawthorne s life mentioned by Leavis and Swisher
above. In addition to the Quaker incident from the author s past, there is also the tragedy of the witch
hanging judge in his past, also mentioned by Leavis and Swisher above. Wagenknecht states in
Nathaniel Hawthorne that, of the three Salem women mentioned in Young Goodman Brown, two of
these were hanged; all three were accused in 1692 (60). Wagenknecht continues: When the devil
speaks of his intimacy with Brown s ancestors and of their cruelty toward Quakers and Indians,
Hawthorne is clearly thinking of his own forbears (60). Thus it is seen that the historicity of these
short story episodes is well established.
A proper, accurate interpretation of Young Goodman Brown depends on the reader s knowledge of an
historical occurrence from June of 1692, when a group of important Boston clergymen issued a
statement which declared that it was an undoubted and notorious thing, that a demon may, by God s

I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Meaning
There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. By Maya Angelou, I Know Why the
Caged Bird Sings. This is the quote my mom has been telling me every day since I was 13 and able to
understand it. Maya Angelou wrote this poem in 1969 and it still speaks to millions of people today.
Millions of people who have everything to say but never speak. This is just one example, my example
on how relatable poems are even if they are hundreds of years old. Being able to relate to a poem after
such a huge time gap in what makes a poem timeless and even the poet in specific cases. To be
timeless means to not be affected by the passage of time or changes in fashion. Timeless is beautiful
and rare in a world where everything is constantly revolutionizing.

For many years now, Scientists have struggled to help medical practitioners treat their patients

personal can medicine get? In 2003, researchers obtained a complete human genome from which the

Second Wave Of Feminism In Canada
Feminism has been discussed throughout the last century as women are began to prioritize their rights
within their society. The first period of significant feminist activity was the first wave of feminism
around 1850 1900, primarily focusing on women s suffrage. It was not until the 1960s that second
wave of feminism came to be. This wave of feminism achieved visibility for women in Canada and
played a significant role in the liberation of women while contributing to other causes. The
concentration on disarmament, misogyny, sexual violence, reproductive and equal rights were vital to
the emancipation of women and minorities.
The second wave of feminism concentrates on liberation, although it played a significant role in anti

Women worked tirelessly to challenge misogyny in education. The formation of women s studies
introduced women to disciplines like language, philosophy, psychology, and history and opened doors
for female STEM majors (Encyclopedia). Women campaigned for educational reforms throughout
education careers, and demanded changes in curricula and teaching forces to ensure that women were
getting the same education as men. Some changes include home economics and survival courses not
being gendered courses and the same curriculum for physical education classes. These changes in the
education system made sexism in the new generations less common, a significant change from the
previous generation. Women also demanded to be equal in men within the work environment.
Domestic labour remained their responsibility in society, and if women are working they would be
given incredibly lower wages than their male counterparts and little to no benefits. In 1951, women
and men were able to get equal pay, yet there were no significant changes to the wage gap. Over the
years women condemned the gendered pay gap (Encyclopedia) as well as other issues such as
separation and divorce rights, discrimination in labour codes and restriction on married women.
During a divorce, women were not entitled to an equal share of property until 1980, where the
legislation recognized an equal division of property upon separation or divorce (Heritage). According
to UFCW Canada, it was not until 1971 that women in the military were able to keep their jobs when
they got married, as the changes to the labour code prohibits sex discrimination. As second wave of
feminism came to an end, women across Canada were making more money, receiving benefits and
were equal to men in the

Impact Of Social Media On The Hospitality Industry
HOW DOES SOCIAL MEDIA HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON CUSTOMERS BUYING BEHAVIOR
IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY?
1. Introduction
In recent years, social media has had a huge impact on people. The number of people who use social
media has dramatically increased over the years which has basically stemmed from the innovation of
technology that allows people to conveniently use their smartphones which can connect to the internet
anytime and anywhere (Singla and Arora, 2015). Owing to the innovation of technology, the
businesses have developed their capabilities by bringing in social media as one of the strategies to
strengthen their power in marketing their products and services to differentiate themselves from their
competitors (Hamidi and Safabakhsh, 2010). This study has been conducted in order to assess the
impact of social media on the hospitality or tourism industry nowadays. It will mainly focus on how
the business modified the use of social media to keep their customers satisfaction at a high level with
customer relationship management (CRM). Moreover, it will discuss on how the business uses social
media as a marketing tool to promote their services to get higher revenue with lower cost with the goal
to be outstanding from other competitors.
2. Era of Social Media and its effect on the hospitality industry
According to Forbes and Vespoli (2013), more than 500 million people in different age groups across
the world use social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter in

Essay on Test Bias
In the helping professions such as psychology, counseling, social work and education, it is imperative
that we as professionals understand tests and be able to administer them properly to our clients or
students. Tests should be carefully selected, as each has a purpose and as we are aware, there are
biases within various tests. A biased test is one in which there are methodical distinctions in the
meaning of test scores correlated to different groups. Most tests are well formulated; however none are
absolute. Tests are often administered to make substantial conclusions that will affect the lives of the
test taker. The test taker is unaware of these biases that are in favor of or in opposition of specific
groups of people and the results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When discussing biases in testing, intelligence tests are highly discussed especially when addressing
cultural bias. Culture, which is defined as the belief systems and value orientation, including customs,
norms, practices, and social institutions (Fiske, Kitayama, Markus, Nisbett, 1998) has a significant
influence on all aspects of the individual, and problems can occur with instruments that do not
consider cultural differences (Whiston, 2009). Many researchers have studied cultural bias of
intelligence tests as they relate to African Americans. As known, many instruments including
intelligence tests were designed to be administered to white or European Americans. Although cultural
bias in testing does not focus only on African Americans, it is one focus group. Intelligence tests,
which are also identified as cognitive ability and ability tests, are psychological tests that were created
to calculate cognitive abilities, such as reasoning, comprehension and judgment. However, they are
often affiliated with inherited attributes. In comparing intelligence tests with achievement tests,
achievement tests are often correlated to educational opportunities and academic experiences, which
can affect test performance. Due to various concerns intelligence tests are commonly criticized for
many reasons, test bias being one (Jensen, 1980). R.J. Gregory (2004) stated

Coca Cola Vs. Pepsico
Coca Cola vs. PepsiCo
Coca Cola is a leading beverage industry in the United States and many other countries in the world.
PepsiCo is also a leading worldwide beverage company, but they are also the parent company of the
Frito Lay and Quaker Oats Companies. This makes PepsiCo a leader in the beverage, snack and cereal
industries. As consumers, we have indulged in their products for many years. My personal preference
has always been Pepsi over Coke, which is why I was very interested in conducting this analysis.
Regardless of the results, I will always seek out a Diet Pepsi over a Diet Coke and so will many of my
physician friends at Children s Hospital who start their mornings with a Diet Pepsi. These personal
preferences are what contributes to a company s profits through net sales. However, the key
performance measurement tools used are not based on sales alone. Calculating liquidity, solvency, and
profitability ratios on a regular basis give us a better insight on the performance and overall health of a
company. Coca Cola vs. PepsiCo Liquidity
Liquidity ratios measure the short term ability of a company to pay its obligations and meet their
needs for maintaining cash. According to Cagle, Campbell Jones (2013), A good assessment of a
company s liquidity is important because a decline in liquidity leads to a greater risk of bankruptcy (p.
44). Creditors, investors and analysts alike are all interested in a company s liquidity. After computing

Zinn Chapter 10
Chapter 10 of Zinn discusses the struggle between class systems that was going on when the North
and the South conflicted in the United States. During the nineteenth century, there was a competition
between class systems that resulted in strikes, killings, and the formation of unions. While reading the
chapter, one thing that surprised me was The Contract Labor Law. This law gave business bring in
foreign workers that provided a source of cheap labor and workers to fill in the spots that strikers left
(Zinn, 165). This law rewards business while punishing its workers. It s saying that industries value
money and power more than the well being of their workers, which isn t right. It amazed me that
lawmaker s valued business more than people s safety. There were no laws that protected worker s or
their health and safety. No wonder they fought and established strikes. Workers weren t protected at all
during the nineteenth century, to business they were disposable and cheap. While reading ... Show

Rich multimillionaires paid to escape military service by paying for substitutes to take their place. Not
everyone had that luxury so it s seems unfair that people could have just done that. Money can t solve
all problems. In addition, the bribing and secret deals that wealthy inventors and business workers
made the country look corrupt. For example, Thomas Edison promised New Jersey politicians $1,000
if they crafted laws that favored his business interests and The Central Pacific line spent $200,000 on
bribes to Washington, D.C. just to get free land and loans (Zinn, 173). Back then if you had money
you could do whatever, which is unfair. Wealth shouldn t matter and it definitely shouldn t interfere
with politics and law making. Both chapter 10 and 11 taught me new things that I believe should be
taught in the social studies curriculum. Not only were they interesting but they are worth being

Friedman s View On Corporate Social Responsibility
Friedman s View on Corporate Social Responsibility The answer to the questions of Why does a
business exist? and What purposes does/should it serve within society? are not agreed upon by all. The
concept that companies having social obligations beyond their economic benefit is controversial
(Chandler Werther Jr., 2014). This paper will briefly examine the viewpoint of the well known
economist, Milton Friedman, whose assertions have been very influential in the debate surrounding
corporate social responsibility (CSR). Arguments, both in support of, and against Friedman s
assertions, will be presented along with examples of two organizations having contrasting attitudes
regarding CSR. Lastly, the paper will examine three organizations whose literal adherence to
Friedman s view has led to the rationalization of unethical behaviors.
Friedman s Assertion Milton Friedman, a well known and often cited Nobel Prize winning economist,
asserted that the sole social responsibility of business is to increase profits (as cited in Chandler
Werther Jr., 2014, p 5). Friedman believed that financial success and profit maximization are the only
justification needed for the existence of a business; the resultant positive economic contribution is the
value provided to society and, thus, its only social responsibility. He believed that the notion that
companies are socially responsible, or obligated, to fulfill any other role is a deterrent to the true
purpose of business in a free

Roman Influence On Western Civilization
The Roman Empire, before its collapse, had been divided into the east and the west. Upon its fall the
Western Roman Empire would develop into what would be known as Byzantium and the Eastern
Roman Empire would develop into Europe. There would be many influences that would affect these
two bodies during the 5th century to the 8th. These sources that would influence these bodies came
from the preceding Roman heritage, the Christian faith, and those from other sources. These sources
and their influence are the topics that shall be addressed and are as follows: Jordane s The History of
the Goths, Gregory of Tours, History of the Franks, Pope Gelasius I, On Priestly and Royal Power,
Charlemagne, Letter to Pope Leo III, and Documents Relating to the Imperial Coronation of
Charlemagne. The influence from other sources on Europe can be seen from the Germanic barbarians
and the Goths can be seen in early Europe from Jordane s, the History of the Goths. In Jordane s
record he indicates that the western empire of Rome had been taken over by a Germanic leader known
as Odoacer, who overthrew the young emperor Augustulus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this letter the pope addresses his view of the role each ruler has. Gelasius in his writing
acknowledges the rule over man that the emperor holds, but suggests that though he may rule over
man that the emperor should submit to the authority of the divine and those who serve it. Gelasius
goes on to say that the bishops acknowledge the emperor s laws and power because he was allowed to
rule by God (Ch.2, rd.6, p.52). This source indicates that Christian rule was greater than that of the
emperor of Byzantium or at least in their eyes. It also appears that Gelasius is suggesting that the only
reason the bishops obey the laws of the emperor are because they choose to do so. These two ideas
bring to light the growing power of the church over the rule of the

Curriculum In College Curriculum
Ethical Curriculum College campuses are used to further an individual s intelligence, and it allows the
students to compete for better paying jobs. Along with the apprehension of information that allows
students to go on to pursue a higher level profession, the responsibility aspect of ethical and moral
liability also increases. Students who graduate from college campuses should be held to a higher
standard when it comes to ethical and moral accountability. Also, having great professors to teach
ethics and morals in a classroom is a very important issue because when anyone learns anything from
someone they must respect that person. I believe that moral instruction and ethical content should be a
required part of the college curriculum because it increases the required respect towards one another in
a professional environments.
College graduates tend to go into higher positions in their companies, and they have a lot more power
than the average worker. With that power the expectation of having a higher sense of ethics and
morals are deeply required. If they do not have a clear understanding of those two things then
problems will occur within those corporations. In David A. Hoekema s essay, The Unacknowledged
Ethicists On Campuses, he discusses that the college consumers are initially attending college to foster
a deeper sense of humanity and with that they acquire the morality aspect along with the increasing
power of intellect. I do agree with Hoekemas statements in

Criticisms Of A Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach
There can be many criticisms for humanistic therapy. This approach can be thought of as too positive
at times, in regards to human behavior. With a humanistic approach individuals are assumed to be
naturally good and will decide to follow the most positive way of doing things, by either making
themselves and the world around them a better place (Mcleod, 2015). Choice and free will at times
can be limited to some people, which then can make the application of this approach difficult.
According to McLeod, Humanistic psychologists argue that objective reality is less important than a
person s subjective perception and understanding of the world . (Mcleod, 2015). This can cause issues
when trying to develop treatment and study it, different factors must be taken into consideration. This
means that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The client centered method is no longer defined in terms of specific techniques or modes of response,
but rather in terms of certain basic attitudes (Gendlin, 1962 as cited in Rogers, 1957, 1959). With the
isolation of schizophrenic patients and also the fact that these patients were assigned psychotherapy
involuntarily , would account for their characteristic refusals, silences, and absence of verbal
exploration, as previously mentioned. (Gendlin, 1962). According to Gendlin, the attitudes of the
therapists had the tendency to greatly increase patients reactions and behaviors, and as such, lead to
modifications in their psychotherapy process. Second, the genuine expressiveness of the of the
therapist is significant as well. It is important for the therapist to express themselves in a way that they
clearly state their feelings at the time, without judgment. It can be said that when therapists take this
approach they have the ability to often solidify and continue relationships by expressing themselves
openly and being genuine. (Gendlin,

  • 2. The United States Of The World War II Essay On December 7th, 1941, the United States of America was heaved into World War II after Japan attacked the American naval convoy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day after the Japanese s surprise attack, America and Great Britain both declared war on Japan. The Second World War was histories greatest and most noteworthy armed conflict. It served as the environment for the current arrangement of security and intellect, and for the postwar power stability that shaped the agenda for the Cold War. World War II partook with around 50 allied nations, one of the most renowned was The United States of America.3 The American industry provided almost two thirds of all of the allied military equipment produced during the war, and because of this, in four years alone, Americas industrial production doubled in size even with it already being the largest at the time. After the attack, everyday living throughout the nation was considerably affected. Normal goods such as food, gas, and clothing were rationed heavily.1 The communities created scrap metal drives and changed the standard role of women in order to build necessary weaponries to win the war.1 Even though America was experiencing great economic growth, undoubtedly this war and its associated atrocities would have a death toll of around 50 million military and civilian peoples, in the military deaths alone The United States of America lost 400,000.1 World War II not only disturbed the economy of the United States, but it also ... We see the cold war as a period of hostility, which ended in 1989 between the Soviet Union and the USA in which neither country fired shots at each other directly but engaged in proxy wars to propagate their opposing ideological views and expand their influence globally. The tentacles of the opposing sides spread globally and the Middle East was no exception and it is impossible to know what influence Oil had. In 1953 the countries of the Middle East were developing, post colonial and non aligned but the shah of Iran, supported by the USA was being challenged pro communist Iranian nationalists. On July 14, 1958, the Iraqi monarchy was overthrown in a military coup. The new government was led by General Abdul Karim Qasim who withdrew Iraq from the Baghdad Pact, opened diplomatic relations with Soviet Union and adopted a non aligned stance. The organization dropped the name Baghdad Pact in favor of CENTO at that time. CENTO did little to prevent the expansion of Soviet influence to non member states in the area. Whatever containment value the pact might have had was lost when the Soviets leap frogged the member states, establishing close military and political relationships with governments in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, the People s Democratic Republic of Yemen, Somalia, and Libya. By 1970, the USSR had deployed over 20,000 troops to Egypt, and had established naval bases in Syria, Somalia, and P.D.R. Yemen. The Iranian revolution spelled the end of the organization in 1979, but in reality, it essentially had been finished since 1974, when Turkey invaded Cyprus. This led the United Kingdom to withdraw forces that had been earmarked to the alliance,[citation needed] and the United States Congress halted Turkish military aid despite two Presidential vetoes.[5] With the fall of the Iranian monarchy, whatever remaining rationale for the organization was lost. Although Alexandra was depicted as a tall, strong girl, (p.10) which is typically viewed as characteristics of a male, she was indeed a feminist in Willa Cather s novel O Pioneers! In the introduction of the novel, an argument arises due to the differences of O Pioneers! in contrast to some of Cather s other pieces as well as several other novels of that time period. Throughout Alexandra s childhood, she often dreamed of pleasures from a man, certainly, who carried her, but he was like no man she knew... (p.112) and these fancies continued as she grew older. She often slept in on Sunday mornings and during her lengthy sleep hours she accidentally fancied about a man whom she knew nothing about. Surprisingly, Alexandra became disappointed with herself after the epiphany elapsed. She would rise hastily, angry with herself, and go down to the bath house... (p.112) to cleanse her body. As incorporated in the novel, these feelings expressed more characteristics of Alexandra s feminism as she daydreamed about a man in her life. In Table 2 and 3, the results of the simultaneous equation models show that the coefficient estimates for congestion growth are negative and significant at the 10% level. That is, congestion growth has a negative effect on income growth in both 2000s and 1990s. Specifically, every one percentage increase in congestion growth leads to a 0.07% and a 0.19% decrease in income growth during 2000s and 1990s, respectively. As expected, the results show that congestion growth has a negative effect on income growth. In addition, the initial condition of traffic congestion is negatively associated with income growth in 1990s, meaning that higher levels of initial traffic congestion negatively affects household income. However, it is not statistically significant in 2000s. The coefficient estimate for the employment growth is statistically positive at the 1% level in 1990s. Specifically, all else being equal, every one percentage increase in employment growth leads to a 0.60% increase in income growth during the period. This result supports notion that employment growth raises wages and thus produce positive wage growth (Lewis, et al., 2002). This is because positive employment growth provides more available jobs, which attracts job seekers. • 22. Power Of The Fittest By Richard M Emerson Essay POWER DEPENDENCE RELATION INTRODUCTION When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful Malala Yousafzai Power is a term that breaks all boundaries and establishes its intensity. The concept of power has pre domitantly existed in the society. It has become the prerogative of human survival as power has become the ticket to suppress others and move ahead in the society. As Charles Darwin formulated the theory of survival of the fittest the very nature of power becomes evident. Richard M Emerson an formulated the famous Power Dependence relation on the basis of these paramaters. In the very beginning of his theory Emerson states that there is an existence of ambiguities surrounding the terms power , authority , legitimacy and power structures .The Power Dependence relations attempts to bring about a sense of balance. According to this theory, the dependence a person has on another brings up the concept of power .1 Emerson brings forth a similar concept as presented by Max Weber whose presentation was basically a typology rather than an organized theory of power. Emerson brings about an argument that says that social power is in dire needs of a systematic treatment. He criticizes the common norm of treating power as an attribute of a person or group. He also proceeds to rank order persons by some criterion of power and this ordering is called the power structure . So to wind it up in definable terms we can say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Effect Of Measuring Device Measures On Students From... Introduction Our report focused on students from Texas A M Psychology class where each was asked to rate their self esteem level. We have looked at two terms; reliability and validity which were used in the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale to help assess individuals self esteem. According to the book Essentials of Statistics of Behavioral Science by authors Frederick J. Gravetter and Larry B. Wallnau (2014) they define reliability as how consistent a study or measuring device is. A measurement is said to be reliable or consistent if the measurement can produce similar results if used again in similar circumstances. Along with that they define validity as an indication of whether the measuring device measures what it claims to. An example of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without reliability and validity it would be very difficult to decide which research should be trusted and which should be completely disregarded. The main goal of this report was to assess reliability and validity through the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale where participants rated their level of self esteem from 1 7. A 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7 indicating that they strongly agree with that trait. Along with this we used Cronbachs alpha to indicate the consistency within the scale. Method Participants at Texas A M University (N=33) were asked to report their age, which ranged from 19 to 28years of age and their gender. Twenty five of the participants were female while the remaining eight were males. The average age of participants that was frequently reported was 20 years (SD=1.97). A total of 10 items were recorded (Appendix A, Appendix B, Appendix C, Appendix D, Appendix E, Appendix F, Appendix G, Appendix H, Appendix I, Appendix J). Each student was asked to write which trait they felt related to how they felt about themselves. For this section we used Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale, where a 7 point Likert scale was used, a 1 indicated that they strongly disagree and a 7 indicating that they strongly agree with that trait. Throughout this report there were 5 out of the 10 traits that were reverse coded which refers to flipping the category values (i.e. 1 becomes 7, 2 becomes 6, 3 becomes 5.,etc.). ... • 25. Solar Renewable Energy System In brewing industry, 80% of overall final energy consumption is used in the form of thermal energy where solar thermal can be used for brewing processes as below: steam generation, malting process, stopping germination of grains, air cooling, conservation with hot air, power supplying of washing machines, wither and kiln processes. Malting plants and breweries consume heat for their thermally driven processes at temperature level ranges between 25°C to 120°C. It seems feasible to supply heat at this temperature level which is not higher than the actual amount required but in reality the it is often decided by the consumer which needs the highest temperature. The integration of solar renewable energy system is necessary to reduce the exergy losses and CO2 emissions [17,21,24,25]. To utilize the organic matter from brewing residues, optimized heat recovery can supply its thermal energy demand over resources. Theoretically, the full energy potential is not utilized so the pathway is the conventional means of energy. However, the conversion of heat from energy gained from renewable energy resources can ensure environment friendly beer production process for future. To increase the overall energy efficiency, the integration of solar heat energy gained from solar thermal collector technologies can be considered as a prospective alternative to fulfill the demands of typical low temperature process heat. 9.3. Clarendon argued that Cromwell s rise to power had been helped not only by his Great Spirit and energy, but also by his brutality. Aristophanes excels at the bawdy double entendre and certainly this play can be enjoyed as nothing more than what it presents itself as, a farcical sexual comedy, but that would be doing it a great disservice. Within pictures it is easy to recognize the story going on most of the time because it is usually a direct unobscured scene, however art is more difficult due to human creativity. Looking back at art history, various painters and sculptors created images inspired within their life that reflected some type of teaching or value, and telling stories without saying a single word. Pablo Picasso is one example of these painters as one looks at one of his most famous paintings which is Guernica. An average person would look at the painting and just see random figures and odd shapes, but when taking more time to evaluate the art work one sees the true meaning of the pain and suffering during the bombing of Guernica. The women and children were depicted as defenseless and innocent and presented by Picasso as the perfection to mankind. By portraying them as such, Pablo Picasso sent the message that the assault on the women and children was an assault on the core of mankind. But how does the meaning of art and pictures relate to our church that stand at Sacred Heart University? Well, not only does the church contain mosaics and artwork inside, but the whole church itself is a big piece of art that sends a message about our school and community. Notice the allusion to the historical episode from Hawthorne s life mentioned by Leavis and Swisher above. In addition to the Quaker incident from the author s past, there is also the tragedy of the witch hanging judge in his past, also mentioned by Leavis and Swisher above. Wagenknecht states in Nathaniel Hawthorne that, of the three Salem women mentioned in Young Goodman Brown, two of these were hanged; all three were accused in 1692 (60). Wagenknecht continues: When the devil speaks of his intimacy with Brown s ancestors and of their cruelty toward Quakers and Indians, Hawthorne is clearly thinking of his own forbears (60). A biased test is one in which there are methodical distinctions in the meaning of test scores correlated to different groups. Most tests are well formulated; however none are absolute. Tests are often administered to make substantial conclusions that will affect the lives of the test taker. The test taker is unaware of these biases that are in favor of or in opposition of specific groups of people and the results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When discussing biases in testing, intelligence tests are highly discussed especially when addressing cultural bias. Culture, which is defined as the belief systems and value orientation, including customs, norms, practices, and social institutions (Fiske, Kitayama, Markus, Nisbett, 1998) has a significant influence on all aspects of the individual, and problems can occur with instruments that do not consider cultural differences (Whiston, 2009). Many researchers have studied cultural bias of intelligence tests as they relate to African Americans. As known, many instruments including intelligence tests were designed to be administered to white or European Americans. Although cultural bias in testing does not focus only on African Americans, it is one focus group. Intelligence tests, which are also identified as cognitive ability and ability tests, are psychological tests that were created to calculate cognitive abilities, such as reasoning, comprehension and judgment. However, they are often affiliated with inherited attributes. In comparing intelligence tests with achievement tests, achievement tests are often correlated to educational opportunities and academic experiences, which can affect test performance. Due to various concerns intelligence tests are commonly criticized for many reasons, test bias being one (Jensen, 1980). R.J. Gregory (2004) stated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Coca Cola Vs. Pepsico Coca Cola vs. PepsiCo Coca Cola is a leading beverage industry in the United States and many other countries in the world. PepsiCo is also a leading worldwide beverage company, but they are also the parent company of the Frito Lay and Quaker Oats Companies. This makes PepsiCo a leader in the beverage, snack and cereal industries. As consumers, we have indulged in their products for many years. My personal preference has always been Pepsi over Coke, which is why I was very interested in conducting this analysis. Regardless of the results, I will always seek out a Diet Pepsi over a Diet Coke and so will many of my physician friends at Children s Hospital who start their mornings with a Diet Pepsi. These personal preferences are what contributes to a company s profits through net sales. However, the key performance measurement tools used are not based on sales alone. Calculating liquidity, solvency, and profitability ratios on a regular basis give us a better insight on the performance and overall health of a company. Coca Cola vs. PepsiCo Liquidity Liquidity ratios measure the short term ability of a company to pay its obligations and meet their needs for maintaining cash. According to Cagle, Campbell Jones (2013), A good assessment of a company s liquidity is important because a decline in liquidity leads to a greater risk of bankruptcy (p. 44). Creditors, investors and analysts alike are all interested in a company s liquidity. After computing liquidity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Zinn Chapter 10 Chapter 10 of Zinn discusses the struggle between class systems that was going on when the North and the South conflicted in the United States. During the nineteenth century, there was a competition between class systems that resulted in strikes, killings, and the formation of unions. While reading the chapter, one thing that surprised me was The Contract Labor Law. This law gave business bring in foreign workers that provided a source of cheap labor and workers to fill in the spots that strikers left (Zinn, 165). This law rewards business while punishing its workers. It s saying that industries value money and power more than the well being of their workers, which isn t right. It amazed me that lawmaker s valued business more than people s safety. There were no laws that protected worker s or their health and safety. No wonder they fought and established strikes. Workers weren t protected at all during the nineteenth century, to business they were disposable and cheap. While reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rich multimillionaires paid to escape military service by paying for substitutes to take their place. Not everyone had that luxury so it s seems unfair that people could have just done that. Money can t solve all problems. In addition, the bribing and secret deals that wealthy inventors and business workers made the country look corrupt. For example, Thomas Edison promised New Jersey politicians $1,000 if they crafted laws that favored his business interests and The Central Pacific line spent $200,000 on bribes to Washington, D.C. just to get free land and loans (Zinn, 173). Back then if you had money you could do whatever, which is unfair. Wealth shouldn t matter and it definitely shouldn t interfere with politics and law making. Both chapter 10 and 11 taught me new things that I believe should be taught in the social studies curriculum. Not only were they interesting but they are worth being ... • 46. Friedman s View On Corporate Social Responsibility Friedman s View on Corporate Social Responsibility The answer to the questions of Why does a business exist? and What purposes does/should it serve within society? are not agreed upon by all. The concept that companies having social obligations beyond their economic benefit is controversial (Chandler Werther Jr., 2014). This paper will briefly examine the viewpoint of the well known economist, Milton Friedman, whose assertions have been very influential in the debate surrounding corporate social responsibility (CSR). Arguments, both in support of, and against Friedman s assertions, will be presented along with examples of two organizations having contrasting attitudes regarding CSR. Lastly, the paper will examine three organizations whose literal adherence to Friedman s view has led to the rationalization of unethical behaviors. Friedman s Assertion Milton Friedman, a well known and often cited Nobel Prize winning economist, asserted that the sole social responsibility of business is to increase profits (as cited in Chandler Werther Jr., 2014, p 5). Friedman believed that financial success and profit maximization are the only justification needed for the existence of a business; the resultant positive economic contribution is the value provided to society and, thus, its only social responsibility. He believed that the notion that companies are socially responsible, or obligated, to fulfill any other role is a deterrent to the true purpose of business in a free ... • 47. Roman Influence On Western Civilization The Roman Empire, before its collapse, had been divided into the east and the west. Upon its fall the Western Roman Empire would develop into what would be known as Byzantium and the Eastern Roman Empire would develop into Europe. There would be many influences that would affect these two bodies during the 5th century to the 8th. These sources that would influence these bodies came from the preceding Roman heritage, the Christian faith, and those from other sources. These sources and their influence are the topics that shall be addressed and are as follows: Jordane s The History of the Goths, Gregory of Tours, History of the Franks, Pope Gelasius I, On Priestly and Royal Power, Charlemagne, Letter to Pope Leo III, and Documents Relating to the Imperial Coronation of Charlemagne. The influence from other sources on Europe can be seen from the Germanic barbarians and the Goths can be seen in early Europe from Jordane s, the History of the Goths. In Jordane s record he indicates that the western empire of Rome had been taken over by a Germanic leader known as Odoacer, who overthrew the young emperor Augustulus ... Gelasius in his writing acknowledges the rule over man that the emperor holds, but suggests that though he may rule over man that the emperor should submit to the authority of the divine and those who serve it. Gelasius goes on to say that the bishops acknowledge the emperor s laws and power because he was allowed to rule by God (Ch.2, rd.6, p.52). This source indicates that Christian rule was greater than that of the emperor of Byzantium or at least in their eyes. It also appears that Gelasius is suggesting that the only reason the bishops obey the laws of the emperor are because they choose to do so. • 48. Curriculum In College Curriculum Ethical Curriculum College campuses are used to further an individual s intelligence, and it allows the students to compete for better paying jobs. Along with the apprehension of information that allows students to go on to pursue a higher level profession, the responsibility aspect of ethical and moral liability also increases. Students who graduate from college campuses should be held to a higher standard when it comes to ethical and moral accountability. Also, having great professors to teach ethics and morals in a classroom is a very important issue because when anyone learns anything from someone they must respect that person. I believe that moral instruction and ethical content should be a required part of the college curriculum because it increases the required respect towards one another in a professional environments. College graduates tend to go into higher positions in their companies, and they have a lot more power than the average worker. With that power the expectation of having a higher sense of ethics and morals are deeply required. If they do not have a clear understanding of those two things then problems will occur within those corporations. In David A. Hoekema s essay, The Unacknowledged Ethicists On Campuses, he discusses that the college consumers are initially attending college to foster a deeper sense of humanity and with that they acquire the morality aspect along with the increasing power of intellect. I do agree with Hoekemas statements in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Criticisms Of A Humanistic Psychodynamic Approach There can be many criticisms for humanistic therapy. This approach can be thought of as too positive at times, in regards to human behavior. With a humanistic approach individuals are assumed to be naturally good and will decide to follow the most positive way of doing things, by either making themselves and the world around them a better place (Mcleod, 2015). Choice and free will at times can be limited to some people, which then can make the application of this approach difficult. According to McLeod, Humanistic psychologists argue that objective reality is less important than a person s subjective perception and understanding of the world . (Mcleod, 2015). This can cause issues when trying to develop treatment and study it, different factors must be taken into consideration. This means that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The client centered method is no longer defined in terms of specific techniques or modes of response, but rather in terms of certain basic attitudes (Gendlin, 1962 as cited in Rogers, 1957, 1959). With the isolation of schizophrenic patients and also the fact that these patients were assigned psychotherapy involuntarily , would account for their characteristic refusals, silences, and absence of verbal exploration, as previously mentioned. (Gendlin, 1962). According to Gendlin, the attitudes of the therapists had the tendency to greatly increase patients reactions and behaviors, and as such, lead to modifications in their psychotherapy process. Second, the genuine expressiveness of the of the therapist is significant as well. It is important for the therapist to express themselves in a way that they clearly state their feelings at the time, without judgment. It can be said that when therapists take this approach they have the ability to often solidify and continue relationships by expressing themselves openly and being genuine. (Gendlin, ...
