Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis
Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking
lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those
with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being
indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with
deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in
Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate
the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles
changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of
symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send
each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which
continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78).
This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings,
transcended the deformity itself and allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with
Robert being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to
physically see the person you love every day (79). This is ironic because Robert and Beulah knew
Robert never needed to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he
needed was to be with her because true love exists when people love each other for who they are,
imperfections and all. Carver s use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to
pick up that it is ironic because you truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what
they are

Atomic Bomb Dbq
The spring of 1945 marked the completion of the atomic bomb. Created by Franklin Roosevelt in
1939, the Manhattan Project had used 2 billion dollars of taxpayer money to build the atomic
bomb, equating to the most costly government project at the time. Political consequences of such
wasted expenditures if the atomic bomb was never detonated justified dropping the bomb. When
scientists finally witnessed its power in the demonstration at Alamogordo, New Mexico,
newfound repercussions of this weapon of mass destruction propelled the subject to heated debate.
Still, the majority opinion of government officials was to drop the bomb because it would reduce
lives lost. Or at least that is what they told the American people. The alternative plan was invasions
on Kyushu and Honshu, two strategic warfare locations of Japan which were to take place the
coming fall and spring. There was no doubt that many lives would be lost through these invasions.
Hisaichi Terauchi, Field Marshal of Japan, had already announced the execution of 100,000 Allied
prisoners to deter any invasions from taking place. Extreme Japanese war customs also heightened
Americans unwillingness to invade. Gyokusai, the Japanese term for suicide, was considered more
honorable than surrendering. Committed to fighting to the death, Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, in
1944, declared 100 million gyokusai if circumstances were deemed necessary. The entire nation of
Japan was prepared to die. Wartime estimates were imperative to

Nature In A Midsummer s Night Dream
There are numerous similarities between the nature of love and nature itself, as they are both
chaotic. We, as a race, are unfaithful creatures who withdraw from our choices dreadfully fast
without much thought. In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Demetrius, Lysander, and even Queen
Titania, end up distracted and shifting who they loveregularly. Love shifts and becomes irregular
often, yet most would endure anything for it.
Love continually changes. Whether or not it s due to love juice is besides the point. (Demetrius to

Battle Analysis
ROTC
Siege of Yorktown The Revolutionary War was a dreadful war leaving almost 70,000 U.S. and
British soldiers dead or wounded. The war lasted eight years with America, France, Spain, and the
Dutch on one side and Great Britain on the other. On October 19, 1781 the last major land battle
took place, the Battle of Yorktown. Similar to other battles in the Revolutionary War, the Americans
were fighting for independence from the British and as threats from them kept increasing, the
situation did not get any better. George Washingtonis recognized to having inspired the victory

The actually fighting started in 1775 in Massachusetts when British soldiers were ordered to
confiscate arsenal being stored there.
Leading up the battle of Yorktown, in February, 1781, Major General Marquis de Lafayette was
ordered to take his Continental troops to Virginia. About a month later General Cornwallis and
his army had entered Virginia believing that if the American forces had resistance, he would
have victory against the Americans and the French. Later that year in August on 1 2, 1781
Cornwallis and his army set up at Gloucester point, hoping to use it as a base for supply and
weapons. Couple of weeks later, Washington heard about the base and sent a large army to
destroy Cornwallis base. A month later on September 14, 1781, French General Rochambeau and
General Washington arrived, and sent 400 French soldiers and 400 American soldiers to storm the
British redoubt. On October 19, 1781, being taken under heavy from the Americans and the
French, Major General Cornwallis realized that he was short of troops and decided to escape
Yorktown before surrendering. Making the move to escape, a sudden storm from the Americans
and French ruined his evacuation plan and Cornwallis was forced to surrender, due to the lack
troops and supplies.
On October 19, 1781, the British troops under Cornwallis surrendered to Washington s combined
forces, thus ending the major battle in the American Revolution. After the surrender of the British,

Examples Of Silhouette Signs
The initial reaction to this sign is there are three people running somewhere; where there is one
man, one woman and one child. 2. My impression of the silhouette figures is that there is a
father, mother and a little girl with pigtails running by bending their bodies toward as if into the
wind which has a yellow color background and the word on it i.e. CAUTION. 3. The sign is
meant to warn the drivers about illegal immigrants crossing and advising them to watch for
people crossing the road. This is apparent because it is clearly visible and understandable. 4. The
sign started to post in the freeway in the beginning of 1990 when the immigrants headed north
were hit and killed by drivers who failed to stop the vehicle in time. So, after that incident, the
sign remains. Even the text sign wasn t that much of the help cause it was only a wordy, which

on Interstate 5 at Camp Pendleton, south of the Border Patrol checkpoint where parents were killed

were left emotionally devastated. The Caltrans graphic artist John Hood said he wanted to show

C-Diff Research Paper
Clostridium Difficile also known as C Diff is a bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract of
the human body. C Diff is a gram positive bacillus, which is spore forming. C Diff is one of the
many superbug that health care workers and hospitals battle. There is a very large push by the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to educate on hand hygiene and room decontamination for
patients that have tested positive for C Diff in a health care setting. This is because the spread of
the disease is through the fecal oral route, and with spores being able to live on contaminated
surfaces for a long period of time.
C Diff is an opportunistic infection, it will affect an individual whose flora in the intestines has
been compromised by the treatment of antibiotics for a different infection like pneumonia, MRSA,
etc... Antibiotics do not know what bacterial are good and what is bad. They kill all bacteria. This
gives the C Diff spores the opportunity to then take over the flora in the intestine that are being
killed by the current regiment of antibiotics. C Diff affects the flora of the large intestine ... Show

dehydration, and mild to severe abdominal cramping, blood or pus in the stool, leukocytosis and
even kidney failure. Detection of C Diff is very easy for an experienced health care worker all
you need is a good nose. C Diff has a very familiar smell that one will remember. For laboratory
testing, physicians will usually order a stool sample be taken. Stool can be tested for the presence
of C Diff toxins A and B. A microbiologist will run either an Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA),
Polymerase Chain Reaction, or a Cell Cytotoxicity Assay. Each of these test look for C Diff toxins

The Development Of Byzantine Architecture
Byzantine architecture is directly related to imperial traditions, to the Christian life and culture of
the Romans. A typical feature of Byzantium is the diverse ethnic composition that includes Greeks,
Thracians, Armenians, Syrians, Copts, Jews, Avars, Slavs and many others. This diversity of
peoples and cultures influences the overall development of Byzantine architecture. Christianity is an
important element shaping the overall appearance of the Byzantine culture.
The light enters through the windows under the dome and illuminates the central ship and the
bridal space.
Procopius explains the impact of the architectural space on the light: The spherical dome, thanks to
the light, does not seem to stand on solid foundations, but seems to hang on a gold chain from the
sky.
In this way one can best describe the beauty and grace of Byzantine architecture.
Byzantine architecture has undergone three stages in its development:
In 313, Christianity was officially recognized. By 326 this was the official religion of the Roman
Empire. The boundaries of the Empire were from Milan and Cologne on the west to Syria on the
east and to Greece and Egypt on the south. The new religion requires all ceremonies to take place
inside the temple, which necessitates the increase of space within the temple. This created the need
for a new architecture. This function took the basilica.
The basilica is a rectangular building divided by rows of columns of sodium, five or more
longitudinal ships,

I Have A Rendezvous With Death Poem Analysis
The poem consists of three stanzas with different numbers of lines. It begins with the sentence, I
have a rendezvous with Death which is repeated three more times in the poem, in lines 5, 11 and
20. The poem alludes to the realities of war in phrases such as disputed barricade, some scarred
slope, and some flaming town. Besides being a war poem, there are elements of an elegy.
Generally, elegies are written to lament over someone who has passed away. In this piece, however,
the poet contemplates on his own possible deathduring war. Despite the atypical aspects, the poem
embodies an important characteristic of an elegy. An elegiac poem is generally composed to laud
and honor a decreased person so that he or she will not be forgotten.... Show more content on

human and softer side of the speaker. The reader has seen him as an utterly brave figure who
fearlessly approaches Death. In spite of that, as a human being, he still wishes for comfort and

NFL Anthem Protests
NFL anthem protests continue with raised fists, T shirt slogans
The movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem is a symbol of peaceful
protesting. It does not symbolize a rebellion, it instead serves as the way to get the point across
that the people will not stand for the social and racial injustice done to other citizens of this
country. The action bears no disrespect to veterans or any other patriot who has fought and/or died
for the United States.
In the article NFL anthem protests continue with raised fists, T shirt slogans provided by CNN, the
author Eliott C. McLaughlin talks about how NFL players throughout the nation are coming

story.
As the American people gather around with their families on Sunday night to watch football, some
are met with disgust towards those they once idolized because they are kneeling before the anthem

Statistical Methods in Measuring Corporate Performance
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of commonly used statistical data in the
measurement of corporate performance by examining various models and methods.
Corporate performance can be defined as fundamental measures of organizational aptitude used to
assess the health of the organization and to provide focused direction to operations while
supporting managers. In order to measure the company s intangible assets such as customer
relationships, internal processes, and employee learning and development while aligning the
corporation s overall business strategy, statistical analysis of performance measurement data must
be utilized.

Each is a reaction to the findings of the one before until a pattern can be observed. This is also
rarely used in performance measurement.
Probability Distributions
Range and distributions depend upon the amount of data available. The information sought in
performance measurement is usually continuous, that is, measurable and therefore denoted as f(x).
Since the probability or distribution of possible probabilities is continuous, the likelihood that the
probability is any specific point estimate is really zero. The range for probability then depends on
the level of valid, available information.
A probability distribution indicates all values that a random variable can assume and shows the
likelihood of occurrence. By examining distributions of data, important characteristics such as
shape, location, variability, and unusual values can be detected. The conclusion as to the
relationships between different variables can then be generated from the observation of patterns in
data.
An example of a normal distribution test is the Gauss curve. The bell shaped curve represents the
odds of each outcome on the range of several outcomes. In a normal distribution observations are
distributed symmetrically around the mean, 68% of all values under the curve lie within one
standard deviation of the mean and 95% lie within two standard deviations3. This is good for
intervallic continuous variables.
Another type of distribution is done when the results are not ranged along a

Statement Of IKEA Management Trainee Program
Hej,
My mentor, Erik Thun, a co worker at IKEA, made me aware of the IKEA Management Trainee
Program. Based on our discussions within the mentoring program he believes my background and
personality would be a good fit for a future position as leader at IKEA. Since I plan to finish my
Master degree in business process and supply chain management in June I believe IKEA s
management trainee program is a very interesting opportunity to develop my professional career.
One of the most important skills I improved during my master studies at Linnaeus University is to
work together in international teams. Being able to adapt to different culture has proven to be very
important and developed me in many ways. Within various student projects that were carried out in
a group, I have been able to use my leadership skills to increase the group s success.

Competition in the oil industry is separated by about 10 cents here in the US. The difference
between ARCCO, Shell, Mobil, and Chevron, is between 1 and 10 cents. Oil companies don t
compete with each other. With gas prices constantly fluctuating towards the $3 mark, there is
little room to raise prices. Consumers will not pay 25 cents more for a gallon of gas. Although
Chevron Texaco and ExxonMobil make have a slight difference in price at the pump, the will not
try to do anything to rock the boat. Chevron Texaco, or Texaco Shell, is the leading competitor to
ExxonMobil. Texaco is in the same areas of business as Exxon. Their petroleum products and
lubricants are sold in the same markets, stores, and in many cases opposite street corners from
each other. The two companies are very similar, but Exxon s recent petroleum deals in the
Middle East and Africa have allowed its stock price to jump ahead for the time being (1). In the
industry, the two companies mainly compete for the ability to negotiate for new production. The
competition is not made at the pump or at the local auto store. It seems that it s more important to
control oil than it is to sell it quickly. Because oil has so much value and power in the world, the

Christianity is an essential part of the women s slave narratives that were read thus far. As slaves
bounded by their foreign masters, the religion of Christianity has shaped the black community s
way of thinking and their way of life as a whole. While the majority of slaves converted to
Christianity, the women were very passionate with their Christian faith as they used it as a
fundamental anchor to allow them to keep hope alive in times of struggle and strife. The three
narratives that are chosen to illustrate this role of Christianitywithin the lives of slave women are

Drumgoold also provided spiritual songs that she sang that helped her through some of her lowest
points of her life as one song goes:
Jesus Savior, pilot me Over life s tempestuous sea, Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rocks
and treacherous shoals Chart and compass come from Thee, Jesus Savior, pilot me. (Drumgoold
1898)
The central significance of her inclusion of the Christian faith is that she emphasizes on the
importance of religious development through education. She believes that education is
supposed to expand the mind and to become closer to God. Drumgoold also uses her narrative as
a means to advocate equality for all people as she uses religious context in terms of everyone is
created equal under God. Spiritual growth is very important to Drumgoold to enrich and
empower the black community as she also values the racial pride of her people. Finally, in the
narrative Memories of Childhood s Slavery Days by Annie L. Burton, Annie Burton incorporates
her Christian faith in a short segment at the end of her narrative entitled, A Vision. In this
segment, she discusses her account of how she came to know God and became a proud member
of the Christian faith and the Warren Avenue Baptist Church in Boston. When Burton was taken ill

Symbolism In The Lamb And The Tyger By William Blake
William Blake is an English poet and printmaker, specially renowned for his poems published in a
series titled Songs of Innocence and Experience. Blake s poems firmly explore the comparisons and
differences in both old age and infancy, expressing the importance of human growth by alluding to
the correlation between humanlife and the renaissance of nature. In addition, Blake creates a
contrast with this joyful concept by conveying the negative aspects of wisdom and moreover,
experience. Furthermore, the Romantic Age is represented through many concepts presented in
Blake s poems: when commenting on the individual versus society, the Industrial Revolution and its
harmful effects on nature, and religious affiliation. Moreover, his strong views on religion are
supported and further enhanced when referencing other texts, most significantly the Bible. The

Furthermore, an outstanding technique employed by Blake is present in both The Lamb and The

of Innocence, composes of two stanzas sung by a young child; the first stanza consists of questions
and the second stanza aims to answer those very questions. Moreover the first stanza begins with a
meek and naГЇve question, Little Lamb who made thee, (line 1). The simplicity of the question
further suggests the innocence of the child, however, the register of the biblical language (thee) is
a clear example of a reference to the Bible. In addition, this reference is questioning the nature and
the origins of the Little Lamb and is later answered, introducing a new character, For he calls
himself a Lamb... (line 13). Here Blake mentions Jesus Christ, and is presented as the Shepherd of

America Is A Great Nation
As a native born American citizen, I am blessed. Blessed with freedom of speech, with freedom
of religion, and with the ability to pursue happiness. Because of this American privilege, I am
grateful, but I am ignorant. America is a great nation, but because we cannot fully comprehend
what it may be like to be born without privilege, we have become selfish. If it is beneficial,
America severely chastises and punishes any for the commitment of atrocities against ourselves and
others, but when not directly affected, America ignores atrocities committed in other countries,
even when committed by us. Joseph Stalin once said, When one man dies, that s a tragedy. When
thousands die, it s a statistic. Large numbers in this regard can provide a strange sense of comfort
because numbers don t feel like people. With numbers, comes distance. To truly understand the
severity of any situation, we must take in account the statistics and numbers. But we cannot forget
what is precious. On September 11th, 2001, a horrific act of terror struck our nation to the core.
Fear, devastating and humbling, lodged into our blessed lives. Over 2,800 American civilians were

Music And Its Influence On Music
Introduction:
Music is a very telling form of expression. Whether it is the lyrics themselves, the tone in which
they re said or the rhythm of the music, there are many methods in which music expresses the artist
s opinion to his audience. The introduction of new methods of expression in music by tinkering
with old methods are how new musical ideas are discovered. In the past, Miles Davis explorations
into jazz fusion and modal jazz music pushed the envelope. Now, Kanye West s explorations
through samples, orchestration and rhythms shape the direction of music.
For both Miles Davis and Kanye West, the fields of music (Jazz and Hip Hop) in which they have
had most of their influence are considered to be predominantly dominated with ... Show more

It accomplishes this through providing first hand quotes from Miles himself as well as quotes from
other jazz musicians around Miles, thus also establishing its creditbility.
Perhaps the most useful source of evidence comes from the quote French jazz pianist RenГ©
Urtreger: Miles was proud and touched by the fact that in France, jazz was considered to be very
important music . For in this quote we get a context about just how important jazz is to Parisian
culture. This can speak to our claim that Miles, along with other black music artists, fit into the role
of entertainment to the French. It is only in contexts where the French/ whites decide where black
can gain economic success and recognition. In this instance, it was in the case of Jazz where the
French deemed important and where Miles crossed over into perfectly.
This source also provided some background as to the decreased popularity of Jazz music in
American culture during the same time period with historical information. Yet despite all the
economic success and fame obtained in Paris, Miles s opinion on Paris seemed to be a negative
one as evident in his soundtrack for the film noir Ascenseur pour l Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold),
evidence introduced in the article but will be discussed later in another source.

Is The Electoral College Outdated
I agree with Hayes, the electoral college is outdated. There is no longer a necessary role for it in
the American Electoral System. The Electoral College was created since the government felt that
the people would not know about the issues that they were voting on. Instead, they decided that the
people would vote for a select group of candidates. The group of people that are being voted for are
the caucus. The caucus member that wins their district casts their districts vote in favor of the
candidate that won the majority vote .
The Electoral College used to be useful before the technological age but, now that there is
technology it is obsolete. Technology has had a immense impact on what the average American

peripheral services such as its TV offerings as well as other attention holding services which
would keep consumers glued to its products. It needs premium original products and services

gaming. It is something of a farce that a company as big in the entertainment world as Sony has
only been able to provide one original TV show for its PlayStation providers whereas companies

Speech On The Yellow Jacket Program
Sunday Night
This past Sunday night me and a few of the other freshman football players made the stupid
decision to drink. There are many lessons learned from that night that I will keep locked in my
head for the rest of my career on the Randolph Macon football team and in my life after I
graduate. Everything that I do off the field will affect how I perform, how I am viewed as a
person, and most importantly the team. My bad decision has already caused a distraction in the
middle of the season. My actions are unacceptable and will never happen again, plus I will pass on
what I did to others and show them that what I did is not what the yellow jacket program is about.
First off I want to apologize to you and all of the coaching staff for making such a horrible choice
after all the time and effort that you all put in me. I am very disappointed in myself for choosing
to do this and allowing others to do the same. I appreciate everything that you all do for me and I
promise to not only change the way I go about things but to do my best to regain the trust that I
have taken for granted.
What I do off the field any day of the week will affect how I perform in the weight room, on the
field at practice, and in the classroom. This program is not built upon the principle that off time is
time for you to do whatever you want to do. During the time that the team is given off we are
supposed to be relaxing and recuperating for the next day. From here on out I will always take the

Sorrow Definition

Sorrow
Does everyone feel sorrow? That is the initial question to a much larger problem, for it does seem
as if some people do not. In any given city you d be able to tell the difference from an emo , and a
regular . An emo not necessarily being a dark clad hater, they are just people who feel an emotionto
the extreme; someone unable to cope with this emotion in such a way as for it to be invisible to
others. Say that this feeling is sorrow. Are these people feeling more sorrow than other people do,
or are they worse at coping with the feeling? That is the greater problem.
On one hand, the people who let their darkest emotions show have issues coping with them, and
let them show on their face like art on a canvas. However, whether or not this coping arises from
the mental strength of character, from experience, or simply from honesty, is the issue that is
presented to me in my mind, and what I need to clarify on, in order to deal with it myself.
Maybe being emotional about a problem, in a way that others might recognize, makes the given
problem easier to cope with, because you in turn do not also have to cope with the problem that
you do not understand. If you carry with you an aura of dread and despair, will people not
recognize these emotions in you? You might not acknowledge so yourself, but part of the problem
in concealing sorrow arises from the fact that everyone else carries on the way they did before. Life

Determinism Vs Free Will
Throughout society, one would be hard pressed to find an individual that did not believe in the
concept of freedom. Free will has become a value so ingrained in civilization that most trust in it
implicitly without question and the idea of being free is often romanticized in literature, politics,
religion, and media...However, there is a juxtaposing viewpoint that is also widely recognized.
Determinismis generally accepted as the opposite of free willin that individuals are not free agents
in their own life and decisions and behavior is already planned out for them. Two paths that
generally cannot mutually exist in the world; which one is right? Upon examining the research, the
vote seems to fall in favor of free will.
Free will is defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5). Essentially, if determinism exists, humans have no freedom of choice in their life and all
actions of behavior are already decided for them and can be predicted. For example, in the case
of determinism, it could be said that a child born into a family of violent parents will
undoubtedly grow up to be violent as well due to observation and genetics (McLeod, 2013).
However, this argument falls short because while it may be true that a child with abusive or
violent parents is much more likely to grow up and act in the same manner for hereditary or
child rearing reasons, that child still has the option to choose not to travel down the path and
seek help. Eric Fromm, a noted Neo Freudian, states that all of us have the potential to control our
own lives but that many of us are too afraid to do so [and] as a result we give up our freedom and
allow our lives to be governed by circumstance, other people, political ideology or irrational
feelings (McLeod, 2013, para. 21)
Nevertheless, just because someone stays in their same situation and allows themselves to fall
prey to circumstance, does not mean that determinism is readily inescapable since the choice to
make a change in one s life is still there even if the choice is to not act (McLeod, 2013).

Photochemical Smog
Photochemical Smog
Gifted Chemistry IB
Alternative Assessment
1997 March 19
Historically, the term smog referred to a mixture of smoke and fog, hence the name smog. The
industrial revolution has been the central cause for the increase in pollutants in the atmosphere over
the last three centuries. Before 1950, the majority of this pollution was created from the burning of
coal for energy generation, space heating, cooking, and transportation. Under the right conditions,
the smoke and sulfur dioxide produced from the burning of coal can combine with fog to create
industrial smog. In high concentrations, industrial smog can be extremely toxic to humans and
other living organisms. London is world famous for its episodes of industrial smog. ... Show more

These conditions include :
В• Precipitation can alleviate photochemical smog as the pollutants are washed out of the
atmosphere with the rainfall. В• Winds can blow photochemical smog away replacing it with
fresh air. However, problems may arise in distant areas that receive the pollution. В• Temperature
inversions can enhance the severity of a photochemical smog episode. Normally, during the day
the air near the surface is heated and as it warms it rises, carrying the pollutants with it to higher
elevations. However, if a temperature inversion develops pollutants can be trapped near the Earth s
surface. Temperature inversions cause the reduction of atmospheric mixing and therefore reduce
the vertical dispersion of pollutants. Inversions can last from a few days to several weeks.
4. Topography is another important factor influencing how severe a smog event can become.
Communities situated in valleys are more susceptible to photochemical smog because hills and
mountains surrounding them tend to reduce the air flow, allowing for pollutant concentrations to
rise. In addition, valleys are sensitive to photochemical smog because relatively strong temperature
inversions can frequently develop in these areas. Possible Solutions
A possible solution to the problem of photochemical smog is to enforce stricter emission laws all
over the globe. Many countries have varying laws on the legal limits of NOx, Carbon Dioxide, and
Sulfur Dioxide.

TITLE
Kim is based on the India that Kipling experiences during his five years of working there as a
newspaper reporter. His residence near the primary British Army base in Northwest
India....enhanced his already intense admiration for the martial life (Matin 359). Events in the
novel are manipulated to formulate Kipling s dream of dominated India. Being a product of his
time, Kipling believes that the British empire has an obligation to bring enlightenment to inferior
races and underdeveloped countries. His idea of the best way to rule the native India is
expressed by creating Kim who is born in the country, resulting in Kim s appreciation and favor
of the Indian culture. Kipling constructs the native India consists of salvage people who are
waiting to be civilized by British and limited by their races no matter how much they contribute
to the imperialist system. He has people positively speak on empire s behalf and recognize the
work of British men. Moreover, all the characters exist in the story to help Kim going on the
right track to become an imperialist boy and rise above everyone else. Kim s ultimate choice of
British empire s interest over his loved lama and his being blessed for doing so successfully deliver
Kipling s imperialism message.
The White man s Burden edifies readers who are not familiar to Kipling s imperialistic ideology.

Comparison Of Good Country People And A Good Man Is Hard...
In both Good Country People and A Good Man is Hard to Find the definition of good is
somewhat skewed, when I read the stories the people who are depicted as good are actually
quite bad. In Good Country People , the sheer fictional elements such as Hulga having a wooden

reader satisfied. Such elements also show that no matter the person, however they are, can be
capable of evil and that not everyone by appearance is as they seem. To add on to this, both

Hello I m your host Ben Bush and today we will be discussing the pro/ con issues of the self
driving car. First off this is a new concept and just think, would you trust a car that drives without
human control? It s a strange question but with companies like Uber using these self driving cars
for their business the concept of self drivingcars is no longer just an idea for the future, it s quite
apparent that it s a current event. Cons, most likely the more important part of this issue is the
safety of the passengers and other drivers. These cars have been known to cut off busses and
make incomplete stops at stop signs. The safety of these cars is often criticized but even if they do
make a few mistakes is it better than the average human driving?

Review Of The Skeleton Key
The Skeleton Key is a movie about belief in the magic centered practice of Hoodoo. The movie
has many themes centered on the power of belief. Magic and rituals were vehicles used many
times during the course of the movie. Throughout the movie, its protagonist, Caroline, transforms
her belief system through a series of events that will be explained in this paper. The movie also
shows how the beliefs and individual approaches to magicand religious practices drive the actions
and interactions of the movie s antagonists, Papa Justify and Mama Cecile, as well as secondary
characters such as Jill, Caroline s roommate.
Caroline, starts out as a non believer of magic. She views the people and culture of New Orleans
through an etic lens. For example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching
the mansion, she became unnerved by all of the Hoodoo artifacts she saw. She did not understand
their significance at the time but felt uneasy and wanted to leave as soon as possible. She makes
many ethnocentric judgements of the local people and culture. During the course of the film,
Caroline s belief starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her
current belief system. Her interpretation of the causal links between these experiences provide her
with the proof that magic works. This explains why Voodoo worked on Caroline towards the latter
part of the film, when her exposure to the culture and artifacts of Hoodoo

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Dbq

necessary, seeing as how some of its effects lasted decades after , but what if it had never

Unfortunately, the Republican party wished for their own party to win the office. Though the
Southern people may have wanted a Democrat in office, the Democratic party had its eyes set
upon Home Rule . They could finally have members of their own party governing their own
states unlike during reconstruction when Republicans were put in office in Southern states. In
order for the Republicans to obtain the presidency, the Republicans and Democrats had to agree
to a compromise that would satisfy both parties along with helping the Democrats out of their
governmental and economic slump. The presidency was given to Rutherford B. Hayes, and the
Republican party once again had control of the government. Some Democrats tried to pull
Hayes out of office by criminally charging him with fraudulently winning the election.
Regrettably, this did not go as planned and only unified the Republican party which stood firmly
behind Hayes. Though Hayes was a Republican, his policies sometimes opposed the Republican
party. Hayes saw that the United States government had been corrupted by patronage which had
been used by state and federal lawmakers to keep themselves in office in return for different
favors to cities or companies. When President Hayes confronted this issue saying, Now for civil
service reform. We must limit and narrow the area of patronage , most politicians of the
Republican party opposed him. Calling for civil service reform to take the place of patronage
would mean, politicians and lawmakers would be chosen by how they performed in politics rather
than being chosen because they knew a politician who could give them the opportunity to come into
politics. Although civil service reform was not enacted during the Hayes administration, only two

this is very common in families; the husband works and brings in money while the wife stays
home and keeps the house and children in order, the children provide a job for the wife and in
time will help their mother. This is all equal work because the without the husband there would
be no food, without the wife the house would become chaotic, and without children the wife
would have nothing to keep her busy which results in laziness and no prosper, if all those who

The Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
It is difficult for anyone to truly understand devastating situations that occur in our history unless
we actually experience them ourselves. No matter how much we research, how many pictures we
observe, or even the personal stories from the individuals who endure those hard times. We can
imagine the pain and tragedy of it, however, can we truly understand it? In The Devil s Arithmetic
by Jane Yolen, is a character named Hannah Stern who undergoes a glimpse of such a tragedy and
completely shifts her outlook on her family s history in the Holocaust. Throughout the story,
Hannah depicts an unappreciative hora towards remembering the past of her family, subsequently
she receives the glimpse of the past and completely transforms her attitude. Hannah attended a
Seder that her grandparents performed for Passover. Before she arrived, Hannah made excuses that
she did not know it was Passover, or that she forgot about it, and how she already ate to be excused
from it. Her mother explained the importance of remembering to her, which Hannah replied with,
All Jewish holidays are about remembering, Mama. I m tired of remembering (Yolen 4). Already
demonstrating her indifference about remembering what took place so long ago, one receives the
sense that Hannah is simply another teenager that is ignorant towards such important events in life.
Her ignorance is also demonstrated when Hannah had been younger and took a fascination in the

Many Macedonians married oriental women causing the fusion of the cultures. Rome slowly
gained Greek culture as its own such as alphabet, art, and literature (Hackney). New empires
emerged mixed Greek like culture with their culture to create powerful ancient civilizations.
Greek influenced cultures spread from the Mediterranean to Asia from Alexander s empire
(Clark). The many Greek influenced cultures created a large spread of Greek culture, taking a
stand, and affecting modern society globally to this day. New Greek knowledge was spread
across the empire of Alexander. New schools of philosophical thought emerged which focused
on the individual (Clark). With Greek and Babylonian scholars collaborating, much knowledge
and progress grew quickly (Hackney). The spread of new knowledge across the empire caused a
great change in society in that time, taking a stand, and influencing people to this day. The spread
of Greek culture also caused a large effect on art of different cultures. Roman and Hellenistic art
may have affected the portrayal of the Buddha (Clark; Hackney). Discoveries show how Indian art
adapted some Hellenic attributes (Hackney). The spread of Greek culture led to an influence on art,

Canadian Mining Companies Are Responsible For Numerous...
Canada is home to some of the largest mining corporations in the world. In fact, seventy five
percent of the world s mining companies are based in Canada (Dean, 2013). These companies are
involved in the extraction of numerous resources, including silver, petroleum, bitumen and coal.
Canadian mining operations also have a particular focus in gold, as twenty one of the country s top
forty miningcompanies are involved in gold extraction. With billion dollar annual revenues and
interests in almost every continent, these multinational companies are making a large impact
around the globe (Canadian Mining Journal, 2014). However, these impacts are not necessarily

Since these firms have such an extensive presence in Latin America, the management of these

Environmental and Human Rights Violations Most mining projects aim to exploit territories of

Many times, when mining operations commit environmental violations, they commit human rights
violations as well. For this reason, it is hard to separate these two types of violations. Large scale,
open pit mining by Canadian corporations is responsible for a myriad of environmental infractions,
not only affecting ecosystems, but also having a profound, direct or indirect, impact on the lives of
millions living in Latin America.
1.1 Water Violations
Water is one of the most affected resources in the region due to mining operations as mass
mining extractions are having detrimental effects on surface and ground water (Cereceda, 2007).
First, there is the problem of Acid Mine Drainage, or AMD. Naturally, sulphuric acid is produced
when sulphides in rocks are exposed to water and air. AMD, however, is a result of this process
being greatly magnified. Large quantities of rocks containing sulphides are excavated in these open
pit mines, reacting to water and air and creating sulphuric acid. This acid leaches out of the rock,

Monument Informative Speech
Many of us live for the present and anxiously wait for the future but, we often put aside our past.
We all know if we don t learn from our past it will repeat itself. Learning our history is essential,
we see it displayed everywhere; books, monuments, holidays, parades, etc. Memorializing an event
or person and creating a monumenttakes up a lot of time, a location, and need to have a powerful
reason so not all our historical events will be qualified to be displayed with monuments, holidays or
parades but by just acknowledging the past.
Memorializing an event/person and creating a monument takes plenty of time. Time and dedication
is a huge role, monuments especially take some extra time since they re usually made by hand.

We would all love to memorialize something or someone and love even more to make a
monument for someone but where it would happen is hard to find. The location is relevant to
everything because it needs to fit perfectly and has to connect to the audience. Finding the
location is very complicated because you need do a lot of paperwork and have to buy the land
or talk to the landowners. Savage Kirk wrote a book about the monuments in Washington D.C,
stated The public monument speaks to a deep need for attachment that can be met only in a real
place, where the imagined community actually materializes and the existence of the nation is
confirmed in a simple but powerful way. When making a monument, keep in mind if it will be
public or private and who your audience are so your location fits. You want it to be a place
where the monument has enough space to have plenty of people to come visit it, the location
should also be a place where you feel a connection/bond, you can t provide that so make sure you
choose carefully. The audience should feel welcomed to come and be able to enjoy it comfortable
and peacefully. Christine Musser, a writer and journalist wrote a expert Preserving Memory;

Increasing Physical Fitness Levels In Children
Physical Education is becoming a special, along with art, music and other valuable classes that
many school districts have decided are not important enough to schedule daily. As a result, America
s children spend most of their school hours sitting still. The lack of physical activity, coupled with
overeating, has led to an increase in childhood obesity.
Say what you will about Richard Simmons, but the eccentric exercise guru recently brought national
attention to a problem we in PSAHPERD know all too well: the decrease in physical education is
contributing to an alarming increase in overweight American kids.

Comparing Christianity And Hinduism
Rites of passage within are crucial within culture and religion. Rites of passage help individuals
negotiate the transition from one state of being to another and provide an opportunity for the
community to express and celebrate its solidarity. In Christianity and Hinduism, ceremonies which
commemorate life s stages are called sacraments; in Hinduism, these are called saб№ѓskДЃras.
Sacraments are the visual aspect of invisible faith and are and expression of devotion to one s

The sacrament of matrimony binds two people together as one. Marriage in the Christian religion
takes place in a church and is conducted by a priest. The couple makes vows to each other and God
and is a lifelong commitment.
Anointing of the Sick was once referred to as Extreme Unction. This sacrament previously was
only performed on those who were dying. Roman Catholics not only use this prayer and ritual to
help prepare a person for his or her death, but also to help a person regain health: mentally,
physically, or emotionally. Along with extreme unction, priests administer last rites, which gives the
dying the chance to confess once more. Anointing of the sick and the sacrament of confession are
called the Sacraments of Healing.
Holy Orders, or Ordination, occurs when a new priest is confirmed in an ordination ceremony. The
bishop preforms the ceremony and presents the priest with symbols of his new position, such as a

Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment
Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s
attachment to caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional
development. As described by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between
mother and child in the first two months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and
crying. During this stage infants are not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between
caregivers. Between their second and eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one
caregiver, most often the mother. The primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or
not the 7 8 month old infant protests when separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet
the caregivers return with happiness. Soon thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional
attachments with their fathers, grandparents, babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are
attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt, 2015, p. 135).
Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system.
Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains
proximity between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is
known as proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a
secure base, 3) It creates a haven for the infant when distressed

The Magna Carte, The Declaration Of Independence, And But...
Throughout out the history of the world many documents have had profound influences upon
humanity. The Magna Carte, The Declaration of Independence, and even the Communist Manifesto
by Karl Marx are examples of some of the documents that have helped to shape humanity. The Bible
has had perhaps more impact on humanity than any other Document ever written. Many people
read the Bible, but know little of the history of the Bible itself. The history of the Bible is a
fascinating story of the creation of the Bible versions seen today. Many people are familiar with at
least some of the contents of the Bible, but the average person knows little of the people, processes,
and events involved in its creation and translations.
The Bible is a collection of texts sacred to Jews and Christians. Judaism and Christianity may both
use the word Bible, however the texts included in their respective collections differ. The Bible
canons of other religions may contain other books. These books may sometimes have different
divisions or combinations. Other religious groups may include additional materials in their
respective Bible canon. The Bible is not a singluar work. In fact, many Bibles exist each with
differing contents.
The history of the Bible begins with the Ten Commandments given to Moses. Some Years later
God gave Moses the written and oral Torah.
The Torah consists of the Pentateuch and the other twenty books of the Tanakh. The Tanakh

Reasons On The Assassination Of Franz Ferdinand
On June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Princip was motivated by
his hatred of the Archduke and his political views. However, he did not know that his actions
would spark a conflict that would quickly become one of the bloodiest wars in human history.
However, Franz Ferdinand was not perfect, as he had opposed Serbia s wishes of independence
from Austria as well as called Serbs and Hungarians pigs , thieves as well as many other
degrading names. Despite the fact that he dehumanized Serbs and Hungarians, Franz Ferdinand
s assassination was not justified because he had a family, tensions were already high in Europe,
and his death led to World War One. Franz Ferdinand had two very different sides to his
personality. In the public eye, he was a short tempered Archduke. In the private eye, however, he
was a devoted family man. Franz Ferdinand married Sophie Chotek in 1900 despite the fact that
his uncle, Emperor Franz Josef of Austria Hungary, opposed it. They later went on to have three
children. Franz Ferdinand was regarded as a happy husband and a devoted father in his private
life, which was a side of him that was not shown in the public eye. Consequently, Gavrilo Princip
only saw Ferdinand as an unhinged leader of Austria Hungary, and was partly motivated by this to
take his life. Due to the composition of alliances in Europe, the conflict between Serbia and Austria
Hungary got many other countries involved. Years before Franz Ferdinand

Thoughts. Thoughts come from your brain. For some people they can be great. For example,

How Is The Song Of Roland Alike
In The Song of Roland, Roland interacts with different people just like someone would today.
Throughout the poem, Roland speaks and interacts with many people, such as his stepfather, king,
and comrade. When he speaks to these three main people, the reader can see many differences but
similarities too. For example, when talking to his friend, they get into a quarrel, just like someone
and their friend would today. In The Song of Roland, Roland interacts with Ganelon, Olivier, and
Charles in many ways, both similar and different. One of the first characters Roland interacts
with is his stepfather, Ganelon. From the beginning it is obvious there is tension between
Roland and Ganelon. Marsilla tells Charles that if he goes to France, he will follow him to Aix
and he and his men will become Christians. Charles asks who they will send to Marsilla, and after
being rejected, Roland volunteers Ganelon, . . . Ganelon, my stepsire, is your / man (276 277).
Roland does this out of spite because he knows, from previous messengers, that there is a chance
that Marsilla would kill Ganelon. Ganelon leaves and tells Marsilla not to do what Charlemagne
has asked of him. Marsilla asks how he can defeat Roland and Ganelon tells him when and
where, His nephew will be there, the rich Count Roland, / and Olivier, whom he relies on so.
/ They ll have a force of twenty thousand Franks. / Send out a hundred thousand of your pagans
/ to make the first assault upon them there. . . . there ll be no way for Roland to escape (585 589,
593). When Ganelon returns, he finalizes his plan by telling Charles that if he puts Roland on the
rear guard, no one will defeat them. When Roland hears this, he is prepared but ultimately finds a
way to make it about Ganelon s faults. Finally, he tells Charles that unlike Ganelon, who dropped
the glove, he will not fail him. The second character Roland interacts with is Olivier. Olivier and
Roland have a brotherly like relationship due to them growing up together and training together.

the first to join him, Count Roland climbed up on his destrier. AOI / Olivier his comrade, comes to

Essay On The Babylonians
The Babylonian civilization existed from around 3000 BC until 539 BC. The civilization has its
roots to Mesopotamia, a plain between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, which is now in
modern day Iraq. The Babylonians are notoriously famous in their discoveries and inventions, most
of which we still use today. The civilization developed ideas such as astronomy, in which they
created the Saros Cycle, a cycle used to predict solar and lunar eclipses. The Babylonians were also
masters in architecture, constructing buildings like the Hanging Gardens using innovative
techniques including glass covered bricks and adornments of gold and bronze. However, despite
many of these discoveries being forgotten or lost, their advancements in mathematics have been
kept for centuries, and have brought modern ideas of angles, quadratic equations and even
knowledge about the Pythagoras theorem, before Pythagoras himself existed.
One modern day use of mathematics and quadratic equations, created by Babylonians, was the
collection of taxes. Mesopotamia was a very fertile land; therefore there were a high number of
farmers in the Babylonian Empire. Because of the high number of farmers, tax collectors and
mathematicians had to develop a new and more efficient way of calculating the ... Show more

  • 2. Everyday Use And Cathedral Analysis Sam Thomas 4/17/2018 Copeland The Beauty Within If you were to look upon a mall parking lot no car, blade of grass, person or piece of clothing would be the same. In society today, those with deformities or abnormalities will always be looked down by a few people for being indifferent when they shouldn t. In Everyday Use and Cathedral there are characters with deformities who struggle to be viewed as equals in all eyes. However, the role of a deformity in Cathedral is more significant because of the way Carver uses irony and symbolism to illustrate the way society looks at those with deformities and how an insight into Robert s struggles changes the narrator s perspective of Robert s and his own life. Carver establishes his use of symbolism and irony initially when describing the tapes that Robert and the wife would send each other. For example, he initially asked her to send him a tape and tell him about her life which continues with many tapes over the years about aspects and struggles of each other s lives (78). This is consequential because it shows how the tapes, only filled with stories and feelings, transcended the deformity itself and allowed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the narrator thinks about the different aspects of life Beulah missed out on with Robert being blind and thinks what a pitiful life this woman must have led not being able to physically see the person you love every day (79). This is ironic because Robert and Beulah knew Robert never needed to physically look at his wife to be able to love and connect with her, all he needed was to be with her because true love exists when people love each other for who they are, imperfections and all. Carver s use of the narrator s statement immediately allows the reader to pick up that it is ironic because you truly love someone for who they are as a person not by what they are ... • 3. Atomic Bomb Dbq The spring of 1945 marked the completion of the atomic bomb. Created by Franklin Roosevelt in 1939, the Manhattan Project had used 2 billion dollars of taxpayer money to build the atomic bomb, equating to the most costly government project at the time. Political consequences of such wasted expenditures if the atomic bomb was never detonated justified dropping the bomb. When scientists finally witnessed its power in the demonstration at Alamogordo, New Mexico, newfound repercussions of this weapon of mass destruction propelled the subject to heated debate. Still, the majority opinion of government officials was to drop the bomb because it would reduce lives lost. Or at least that is what they told the American people. The alternative plan was invasions on Kyushu and Honshu, two strategic warfare locations of Japan which were to take place the coming fall and spring. There was no doubt that many lives would be lost through these invasions. Hisaichi Terauchi, Field Marshal of Japan, had already announced the execution of 100,000 Allied prisoners to deter any invasions from taking place. Extreme Japanese war customs also heightened Americans unwillingness to invade. Gyokusai, the Japanese term for suicide, was considered more honorable than surrendering. Committed to fighting to the death, Prime Minister Hideki Tojo, in 1944, declared 100 million gyokusai if circumstances were deemed necessary. The entire nation of Japan was prepared to die. Wartime estimates were imperative to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Nature In A Midsummer s Night Dream There are numerous similarities between the nature of love and nature itself, as they are both chaotic. We, as a race, are unfaithful creatures who withdraw from our choices dreadfully fast without much thought. In A Midsummer s Night Dream, Demetrius, Lysander, and even Queen Titania, end up distracted and shifting who they loveregularly. Love shifts and becomes irregular often, yet most would endure anything for it. Love continually changes. Whether or not it s due to love juice is besides the point. The war lasted eight years with America, France, Spain, and the Dutch on one side and Great Britain on the other. On October 19, 1781 the last major land battle took place, the Battle of Yorktown. Leading up the battle of Yorktown, in February, 1781, Major General Marquis de Lafayette was ordered to take his Continental troops to Virginia. Later that year in August on 1 2, 1781 Cornwallis and his army set up at Gloucester point, hoping to use it as a base for supply and weapons. Couple of weeks later, Washington heard about the base and sent a large army to destroy Cornwallis base. A month later on September 14, 1781, French General Rochambeau and General Washington arrived, and sent 400 French soldiers and 400 American soldiers to storm the British redoubt. On October 19, 1781, being taken under heavy from the Americans and the French, Major General Cornwallis realized that he was short of troops and decided to escape Yorktown before surrendering. Making the move to escape, a sudden storm from the Americans and French ruined his evacuation plan and Cornwallis was forced to surrender, due to the lack troops and supplies. • 6. Examples Of Silhouette Signs The initial reaction to this sign is there are three people running somewhere; where there is one man, one woman and one child. 2. My impression of the silhouette figures is that there is a father, mother and a little girl with pigtails running by bending their bodies toward as if into the wind which has a yellow color background and the word on it i.e. CAUTION. 3. The sign is meant to warn the drivers about illegal immigrants crossing and advising them to watch for people crossing the road. This is apparent because it is clearly visible and understandable. 4. The sign started to post in the freeway in the beginning of 1990 when the immigrants headed north were hit and killed by drivers who failed to stop the vehicle in time. So, after that incident, the sign remains. Even the text sign wasn t that much of the help cause it was only a wordy, which state as Caution Watch for People Crossing Road . C Diff is a gram positive bacillus, which is spore forming. C Diff is one of the many superbug that health care workers and hospitals battle. There is a very large push by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to educate on hand hygiene and room decontamination for patients that have tested positive for C Diff in a health care setting. This is because the spread of the disease is through the fecal oral route, and with spores being able to live on contaminated surfaces for a long period of time. C Diff is an opportunistic infection, it will affect an individual whose flora in the intestines has been compromised by the treatment of antibiotics for a different infection like pneumonia, MRSA, etc... • 8. The Development Of Byzantine Architecture Byzantine architecture is directly related to imperial traditions, to the Christian life and culture of the Romans. A typical feature of Byzantium is the diverse ethnic composition that includes Greeks, Thracians, Armenians, Syrians, Copts, Jews, Avars, Slavs and many others. This diversity of peoples and cultures influences the overall development of Byzantine architecture. Christianity is an important element shaping the overall appearance of the Byzantine culture. The light enters through the windows under the dome and illuminates the central ship and the bridal space. Procopius explains the impact of the architectural space on the light: The spherical dome, thanks to the light, does not seem to stand on solid foundations, but seems to hang on a gold chain from the sky. In this way one can best describe the beauty and grace of Byzantine architecture. Byzantine architecture has undergone three stages in its development: In 313, Christianity was officially recognized. By 326 this was the official religion of the Roman Empire. The boundaries of the Empire were from Milan and Cologne on the west to Syria on the east and to Greece and Egypt on the south. The new religion requires all ceremonies to take place inside the temple, which necessitates the increase of space within the temple. This created the need for a new architecture. This function took the basilica. The basilica is a rectangular building divided by rows of columns of sodium, five or more longitudinal ships, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. I Have A Rendezvous With Death Poem Analysis The poem consists of three stanzas with different numbers of lines. It begins with the sentence, I have a rendezvous with Death which is repeated three more times in the poem, in lines 5, 11 and 20. The poem alludes to the realities of war in phrases such as disputed barricade, some scarred slope, and some flaming town. Besides being a war poem, there are elements of an elegy. Generally, elegies are written to lament over someone who has passed away. In this piece, however, the poet contemplates on his own possible deathduring war. Despite the atypical aspects, the poem embodies an important characteristic of an elegy. It does not symbolize a rebellion, it instead serves as the way to get the point across that the people will not stand for the social and racial injustice done to other citizens of this country. The action bears no disrespect to veterans or any other patriot who has fought and/or died for the United States. Statistical Methods in Measuring Corporate Performance The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of commonly used statistical data in the measurement of corporate performance by examining various models and methods. Corporate performance can be defined as fundamental measures of organizational aptitude used to assess the health of the organization and to provide focused direction to operations while supporting managers. Each is a reaction to the findings of the one before until a pattern can be observed. This is also rarely used in performance measurement. Probability Distributions Range and distributions depend upon the amount of data available. The information sought in performance measurement is usually continuous, that is, measurable and therefore denoted as f(x). Since the probability or distribution of possible probabilities is continuous, the likelihood that the probability is any specific point estimate is really zero. The range for probability then depends on the level of valid, available information. A probability distribution indicates all values that a random variable can assume and shows the likelihood of occurrence. By examining distributions of data, important characteristics such as shape, location, variability, and unusual values can be detected. The conclusion as to the relationships between different variables can then be generated from the observation of patterns in data. An example of a normal distribution test is the Gauss curve. The bell shaped curve represents the odds of each outcome on the range of several outcomes. In a normal distribution observations are distributed symmetrically around the mean, 68% of all values under the curve lie within one standard deviation of the mean and 95% lie within two standard deviations3. Based on our discussions within the mentoring program he believes my background and personality would be a good fit for a future position as leader at IKEA. Since I plan to finish my Master degree in business process and supply chain management in June I believe IKEA s management trainee program is a very interesting opportunity to develop my professional career. One of the most important skills I improved during my master studies at Linnaeus University is to work together in international teams. Being able to adapt to different culture has proven to be very important and developed me in many ways. Within various student projects that were carried out in a group, I have been able to use my leadership skills to increase the group s success. Blake s poems firmly explore the comparisons and differences in both old age and infancy, expressing the importance of human growth by alluding to the correlation between humanlife and the renaissance of nature. In addition, Blake creates a contrast with this joyful concept by conveying the negative aspects of wisdom and moreover, experience. Furthermore, the Romantic Age is represented through many concepts presented in Blake s poems: when commenting on the individual versus society, the Industrial Revolution and its harmful effects on nature, and religious affiliation. That is the initial question to a much larger problem, for it does seem as if some people do not. In any given city you d be able to tell the difference from an emo , and a regular . An emo not necessarily being a dark clad hater, they are just people who feel an emotionto the extreme; someone unable to cope with this emotion in such a way as for it to be invisible to others. Say that this feeling is sorrow. Are these people feeling more sorrow than other people do, or are they worse at coping with the feeling? That is the greater problem. On one hand, the people who let their darkest emotions show have issues coping with them, and let them show on their face like art on a canvas. However, whether or not this coping arises from the mental strength of character, from experience, or simply from honesty, is the issue that is presented to me in my mind, and what I need to clarify on, in order to deal with it myself. Maybe being emotional about a problem, in a way that others might recognize, makes the given problem easier to cope with, because you in turn do not also have to cope with the problem that you do not understand. Essentially, if determinism exists, humans have no freedom of choice in their life and all actions of behavior are already decided for them and can be predicted. For example, in the case of determinism, it could be said that a child born into a family of violent parents will undoubtedly grow up to be violent as well due to observation and genetics (McLeod, 2013). However, this argument falls short because while it may be true that a child with abusive or violent parents is much more likely to grow up and act in the same manner for hereditary or child rearing reasons, that child still has the option to choose not to travel down the path and seek help. Eric Fromm, a noted Neo Freudian, states that all of us have the potential to control our own lives but that many of us are too afraid to do so [and] as a result we give up our freedom and allow our lives to be governed by circumstance, other people, political ideology or irrational feelings (McLeod, 2013, para. 21) Nevertheless, just because someone stays in their same situation and allows themselves to fall prey to circumstance, does not mean that determinism is readily inescapable since the choice to make a change in one s life is still there even if the choice is to not act (McLeod, 2013). ... The industrial revolution has been the central cause for the increase in pollutants in the atmosphere over the last three centuries. Before 1950, the majority of this pollution was created from the burning of coal for energy generation, space heating, cooking, and transportation. Under the right conditions, the smoke and sulfur dioxide produced from the burning of coal can combine with fog to create industrial smog. In high concentrations, industrial smog can be extremely toxic to humans and other living organisms. London is world famous for its episodes of industrial smog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These conditions include : В• Precipitation can alleviate photochemical smog as the pollutants are washed out of the atmosphere with the rainfall. В• Winds can blow photochemical smog away replacing it with fresh air. However, problems may arise in distant areas that receive the pollution. В• Temperature inversions can enhance the severity of a photochemical smog episode. Normally, during the day the air near the surface is heated and as it warms it rises, carrying the pollutants with it to higher elevations. However, if a temperature inversion develops pollutants can be trapped near the Earth s surface. Temperature inversions cause the reduction of atmospheric mixing and therefore reduce the vertical dispersion of pollutants. Inversions can last from a few days to several weeks. 4. Topography is another important factor influencing how severe a smog event can become. Communities situated in valleys are more susceptible to photochemical smog because hills and mountains surrounding them tend to reduce the air flow, allowing for pollutant concentrations to rise. In addition, valleys are sensitive to photochemical smog because relatively strong temperature inversions can frequently develop in these areas. Possible Solutions A possible solution to the problem of photochemical smog is to enforce stricter emission laws all over the globe. First off this is a new concept and just think, would you trust a car that drives without human control? It s a strange question but with companies like Uber using these self driving cars for their business the concept of self drivingcars is no longer just an idea for the future, it s quite apparent that it s a current event. Cons, most likely the more important part of this issue is the safety of the passengers and other drivers. These cars have been known to cut off busses and make incomplete stops at stop signs. • 33. Review Of The Skeleton Key The Skeleton Key is a movie about belief in the magic centered practice of Hoodoo. The movie has many themes centered on the power of belief. Magic and rituals were vehicles used many times during the course of the movie. Throughout the movie, its protagonist, Caroline, transforms her belief system through a series of events that will be explained in this paper. The movie also shows how the beliefs and individual approaches to magicand religious practices drive the actions and interactions of the movie s antagonists, Papa Justify and Mama Cecile, as well as secondary characters such as Jill, Caroline s roommate. Caroline, starts out as a non believer of magic. She views the people and culture of New Orleans through an etic lens. For example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching the mansion, she became unnerved by all of the Hoodoo artifacts she saw. She did not understand their significance at the time but felt uneasy and wanted to leave as soon as possible. She makes many ethnocentric judgements of the local people and culture. During the course of the film, Caroline s belief starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her current belief system. Her interpretation of the causal links between these experiences provide her with the proof that magic works. This explains why Voodoo worked on Caroline towards the latter part of the film, when her exposure to the culture and artifacts of Hoodoo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reasons For The Compromise Of 1877 Dbq The Compromise of 1877 has received different opinions on whether it was right, wrong, or necessary, seeing as how some of its effects lasted decades after , but what if it had never occurred? Would the United States be where it is today if not for that crucial compromise? Nobody knows, but by the way it caused the end of reconstruction, America should be thankful it did. The reconstruction era of the United Statesof America started after the end of the civil war. This period of time was devoted to helping the battle worn South rebuild its broken cities, governments, and economies. Though the Southern people may have wanted a Democrat in office, the Democratic party had its eyes set upon Home Rule . They could finally have members of their own party governing their own states unlike during reconstruction when Republicans were put in office in Southern states. In order for the Republicans to obtain the presidency, the Republicans and Democrats had to agree to a compromise that would satisfy both parties along with helping the Democrats out of their governmental and economic slump. The presidency was given to Rutherford B. Hayes, and the Republican party once again had control of the government. Some Democrats tried to pull Hayes out of office by criminally charging him with fraudulently winning the election. Regrettably, this did not go as planned and only unified the Republican party which stood firmly behind Hayes. Though Hayes was a Republican, his policies sometimes opposed the Republican party. Hayes saw that the United States government had been corrupted by patronage which had been used by state and federal lawmakers to keep themselves in office in return for different favors to cities or companies. When President Hayes confronted this issue saying, Now for civil service reform. We must limit and narrow the area of patronage , most politicians of the Republican party opposed him. Calling for civil service reform to take the place of patronage would mean, politicians and lawmakers would be chosen by how they performed in politics rather than being chosen because they knew a politician who could give them the opportunity to come into politics. Utopians all have an equal work load this is very common in families; the husband works and brings in money while the wife stays home and keeps the house and children in order, the children provide a job for the wife and in time will help their mother. This is all equal work because the without the husband there would be no food, without the wife the house would become chaotic, and without children the wife would have nothing to keep her busy which results in laziness and no prosper, if all those who work away at pointless tasks and, together with them, that whole crowd of lazy, languid idlers, if they all were put to work and useful work at that you can easily see how little time would be enough to produce all thee goods required for human needs (More 1711). This highlights the importance of work, without everyone pulling their own weight others suffer and must work twice as hard instead of harmonically. No matter how much we research, how many pictures we observe, or even the personal stories from the individuals who endure those hard times. We can imagine the pain and tragedy of it, however, can we truly understand it? In The Devil s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen, is a character named Hannah Stern who undergoes a glimpse of such a tragedy and completely shifts her outlook on her family s history in the Holocaust. Throughout the story, Hannah depicts an unappreciative hora towards remembering the past of her family, subsequently she receives the glimpse of the past and completely transforms her attitude. Hannah attended a Seder that her grandparents performed for Passover. Before she arrived, Hannah made excuses that she did not know it was Passover, or that she forgot about it, and how she already ate to be excused from it. Her mother explained the importance of remembering to her, which Hannah replied with, All Jewish holidays are about remembering, Mama. I m tired of remembering (Yolen 4). Already demonstrating her indifference about remembering what took place so long ago, one receives the sense that Hannah is simply another teenager that is ignorant towards such important events in life. • 46. Stages Of Attachment Of The Infant s Attachment Stages of attachment. Another of Bowlby s contributions is his proposal that the infant s attachment to caregiver develops in stages attuned to the infant s cognitive and emotional development. As described by Broderick Blewitt (2015), a bond emerges from the affect between mother and child in the first two months as the infant signals their needs by clinging, smiling, and crying. During this stage infants are not yet attached to anyone and do not discriminate between caregivers. Between their second and eighth month, infants become increasingly preferential of one caregiver, most often the mother. The primary indicator of the emerging attachment is whether or not the 7 8 month old infant protests when separated from their caregiver, and whether they greet the caregivers return with happiness. Soon thereafter, the infant should begin to develop additional attachments with their fathers, grandparents, babysitters etc. By 18 months most infants are attached to multiple caregivers (Broderick Blewitt, 2015, p. 135). Attachment is a system. As mentioned previously, Bowlby also argued that attachment is a system. Expanding on this, Bowlby proposed that the system serves three purposes; 1) It maintains proximity between infant and caregiver, nurturing the emotional bond In attachment theory this is known as proximity maintenance, 2) It provides the potential for on going protection known as a secure base, 3) It creates a haven for the infant when distressed ... However, Franz Ferdinand was not perfect, as he had opposed Serbia s wishes of independence from Austria as well as called Serbs and Hungarians pigs , thieves as well as many other degrading names. Despite the fact that he dehumanized Serbs and Hungarians, Franz Ferdinand s assassination was not justified because he had a family, tensions were already high in Europe, and his death led to World War One. • 53. How Is The Song Of Roland Alike In The Song of Roland, Roland interacts with different people just like someone would today. Throughout the poem, Roland speaks and interacts with many people, such as his stepfather, king, and comrade. When he speaks to these three main people, the reader can see many differences but similarities too. For example, when talking to his friend, they get into a quarrel, just like someone and their friend would today. In The Song of Roland, Roland interacts with Ganelon, Olivier, and Charles in many ways, both similar and different. One of the first characters Roland interacts with is his stepfather, Ganelon. From the beginning it is obvious there is tension between Roland and Ganelon. Marsilla tells Charles that if he goes to France, he will follow him to Aix and he and his men will become Christians. Charles asks who they will send to Marsilla, and after being rejected, Roland volunteers Ganelon, . . . Ganelon, my stepsire, is your / man (276 277). Roland does this out of spite because he knows, from previous messengers, that there is a chance that Marsilla would kill Ganelon. Ganelon leaves and tells Marsilla not to do what Charlemagne has asked of him. Marsilla asks how he can defeat Roland and Ganelon tells him when and where, His nephew will be there, the rich Count Roland, / and Olivier, whom he relies on so. / They ll have a force of twenty thousand Franks. / Send out a hundred thousand of your pagans / to make the first assault upon them there. . . . there ll be no way for Roland to escape (585 589, 593). When Ganelon returns, he finalizes his plan by telling Charles that if he puts Roland on the rear guard, no one will defeat them. When Roland hears this, he is prepared but ultimately finds a way to make it about Ganelon s faults. Finally, he tells Charles that unlike Ganelon, who dropped the glove, he will not fail him. The second character Roland interacts with is Olivier. Olivier and Roland have a brotherly like relationship due to them growing up together and training together. When Roland is assembling the twelve men he will take with him to lead the rear guard, Olivier is the first to join him, Count Roland climbed up on his destrier. • 54. Essay On The Babylonians The Babylonian civilization existed from around 3000 BC until 539 BC. The civilization has its roots to Mesopotamia, a plain between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, which is now in modern day Iraq. The Babylonians are notoriously famous in their discoveries and inventions, most of which we still use today. The civilization developed ideas such as astronomy, in which they created the Saros Cycle, a cycle used to predict solar and lunar eclipses. The Babylonians were also masters in architecture, constructing buildings like the Hanging Gardens using innovative techniques including glass covered bricks and adornments of gold and bronze. However, despite many of these discoveries being forgotten or lost, their advancements in mathematics have been kept for centuries, and have brought modern ideas of angles, quadratic equations and even knowledge about the Pythagoras theorem, before Pythagoras himself existed. One modern day use of mathematics and quadratic equations, created by Babylonians, was the collection of taxes. Mesopotamia was a very fertile land; therefore there were a high number of farmers in the Babylonian Empire. Because of the high number of farmers, tax collectors and mathematicians had to develop a new and more efficient way of calculating the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
