Background
Hygiene is a very crucial factor in prevention of infection in any health care facility. Also, compliance of handwashing ensures patients safety, aids in the treatment and recovery of hospitalized patients. Hand hygiene is important action performed by healthcare works to prevent transmission of healthcare associated infection (Smiddy, O’Connell & Creedon, 2015). Health care professionals such as doctors, nurses, physical therapist and laboratory technicians, take the responsibility of providing efficient, effective and quality care that will improve the health of their patients.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the change proposal project components the author has been working on throughout the course. The goal of health care works rendering a quality, effective and efficient care to their patient in the health care setting will be difficult to achieve if the rate handwashing adherence is below expectation. Unclean healthcare environments harbor germs that can cause disease, thereby placing the patient at risk of developing infection instead of recovering from their present health condition. Healthcare providers inability to comply with hand hygiene is one the main reason patient develop hospital acquired infections (HAIs). Healthcare employees have the lives of patient in their hands therefore, hand hygiene should not by any means be neglected or dominated out in any healthcare facility.
Approximately 250 health care specialists in a Metro Detroit facility happened to be watched and assessed directly; prior to the start of the exercise, participants were selected based on their hand washing comprehension and compliance. Partakers expresses that they observed improvement on handwashing practices and that most nurses complied to hand washing guidelines evidenced by some significant reductions in the rate of transmission of HAIs within the healthcare facility. HAIs are the infections a patient acquire during the period of hospitalization. Whether you are talking about intrapersonal problems or patient care problems, no matter the setting, there will always be something that can be improved. In my facility, I am determined to address the problem that is heavily influencing hospitals: hospital-acquired diseases. This is a serious issue, since a large percentage of patients (over 3%) acquire a hospital-acquired disease at some point during their stay at a given healthcare facility. This can be caused by a variety of reasons, but the most common of which is the absence of proper sterility. By having tools, supplies, and healthcare providers with little or incorrect sterilization techniques, then there is an indeterminate amount of diseases that a patient with a likely already compromised immune system. Furthermore, these hospital-acquired diseases can also affect the healthcare professionals transmitting them, since the providers themselves are the vector for the disease. The project would then consist of a new set of policies that would require more intense analysis of sterilization techniques, including actions before sterilization, during sterilization, and after sterilization (transportation, use, etc.).
By localizing the area, or areas, in which sterilization protocol fails, we will be able to successfully reduce the amount of hospital-acquired diseases an individual patient will experience. Maximum minimization of these diseases is essential to provide a healthcare environment where patient care flourishes, but is also efficient in its usage of funds and time spent by professionals. For example, if a patient receives strep from a medical professional, that patient will require further care; also, the provider will possibly also suffer from the transmitted disease, meaning that person may not be able to practice and therefore put a dent in the hospital’s means. In order to prevent this, implementation of the aforementioned guidelines must take place, since these will allow for a much more strict view of the sterilization techniques. However, a complete rehaul of the methods of sterilization will require time, funds, and strong interprofessional communication to make sure there are no lapses at any point the renewed process. Departmental and funding approving is required, but I believe that this problem is essential enough to solve that it will result in quick approval.

This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. - 2. Why is Hand Hygiene so hard to enforce and how can we improve compliance? I’ve inserted just a few of the many campaign efforts nationally and internationally focused on hand hygiene in hospitals and health care settings. Testament to the world-wide recognition of hand hygiene as key to reducing health-care associated infections – and that achieving highly reliable, high compliance with this behavior is very challenging everywhere. Why? Complexities of behavior, culture, leadership – Surgeons don’t have to be reminded to wash their hands before operating – the connection to safe surgery as obvious, and the specific routine is drilled into every medical and nursing student; more challenging is maintaining that same level of attentiveness when walking into a patient’s room on rounds, or to speak with a patient – hand hygiene is associated with physical procedures; the notion of the ability to spread germs even if you haven’t directly touched the patient for instance, is harder for people to “see”. - 3. How do we improve hand hygiene compliance? Strong engaged leadership can result in changing behavior and culture, and ultimately, reduced infection rates: At my hospital, leadership set hand hygiene compliance as one of several quality and patient safety goals several years ago. Leadership identified this as a priority, invested in “Secret shopper” data collection through our department of epidemiology, reviewed the data monthly, maintains focus and high expectations for compliance, and supports staff suggestions for how to facilitate good hand hygiene, such as placement and availabiltiy of hand washing materials. The “secret shoppers” result in thousands of observations/month, which are fed back to local units as well as hospital senior leadership. This data drove improved compliance to now consistently well above 95%, and we believe is contributing to reduced hospital infection rates.
