Symbols Of The Caribbean Culture
There are multiple cultures around the world that influence a country s way of living. A culture is the
way in which certain groups behave, think, and what tangible objects they bring value to. The
Colombian culture is profoundly influenced by the Spanish culture, but has many distinct factors that
allow it to properly function. The first component of culture is symbols. Symbols are anything with
significance and value shared by the people in a culture. A symbol most countries value is their
national flag. The colors of the Colombian flag each symbolize a characteristic ideal for a strong
country. The yellow horizontal stripe is a reference to the wealth in gold Colombia withheld before the
arrival of Spaniards. The blue depicts the oceans lining the outer regions of the country. A second
interpretation of the flag s blue color is the country s loyalty and consciousness. Lastly, the red reflects
the bravery Colombians inherited during their victorious fight for independence as well as a
recognition for those who lost their lives (Colombia s National Symbols, 2017). Another national
symbol in Colombia is the Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms is a national symbol of their motto
Libertad y Orden which translates to Liberty and Order . The national bird, Andean condor, has an
important meaning to the roots of Colombians, dating back to the indigenous Andean culture. The
Andean people used the vulture as a symbol of health and power. Gestures as well are symbols that

The Role Of Myrtle Wilson In The Great Gatsby
In the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the American Dream is an important motif.
Almost all the characters dreams are mentioned and almost all of their dreams are not fulfilled, but
one particular character s attempt to achieve this dream leads to their morbid downfall. Myrtle Wilson
s American Dream is to marry the aristocratic Tom Buchanan, but we see that she does not achieve
this dream by annoying Tom, and then dying at the end of the novel. First, by annoying Tom and
therefor being insubordinate, Myrtle does not achieve her dream. The novel states, Sometime forwards
midnight Tom Buchanan and Mrs. Wilson stood face to face, discussing in impassioned voices
whether Mrs. Wilson had any right to mention Daisy s name (Fitzgerald 37). This is an example from
the novel where we see Myrtle arguing with Tom and being insubordinate. She had recently
mentioned Daisy s name and Tom was not pleased about it, which ... Show more content on

The book states, The death car as the newspapers called it, didn t stop... Myrtle Wilson, her life
violently extinguished, knelt in the road and mingled her thick dark blood with the dust (137). Myrtle
gets hit by a car that would not stop. We later learn that the car was Gatsby s yellow car and that it was
Daisy whom was driving it. Myrtle is running at the car thinking that it is Tom, coming to get her, but
she is hit with a rather unpleasant surprise. It is slightly ironic that Myrtle was always envious of what
Daisy had, and that in the end, it was Daisy who killed Myrtle. The book states, Myrtle Wilsons body
wrapped in a blanket...lay on a work table by the wall (138). In the duration of chapter seven, Nick
sees Myrtle Wilsons body on a table covered and wrapped in multiple blankets. This is when the
reader realizes that Myrtle is dead. By quite literally running towards her dream, Myrtle Wilson dies;
therefor she does not achieve her American

Essay King Solomon
King Solomon one of the most influential kings in the entire bible Solomon was a wise king and was
gifted as well as punished for his transgressions on his people and God. This paper will show how
Solomon was thought to be one of the greatest kings of the bible, his contributions on the lively hood
of the Israelite people and how he was sent to bring the people into a new type of living for the people
of Israel. This paper will give a personal account on my reason for thinking that Solomon is a great
king of his time. Solomon was born the son of Bathsheba and thought to be the illegitimate son of
David. The people accepted this since Bathsheba was a prostitute, and Solomon was to be the heir of
the throne regardless of any parental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This gift made Solomon loved by all people of his kingdom. Solomon used his wisdom to make a
decision about two women and a dead baby. This story in the bible shows how two prostitutes who
both have given birth to a child are arguing because one of the babies has died and the mother of the
dead baby wants to claim the living one. They come to see king Solomon for a judgement, he tells the
women that he would cut the baby in half so that both women would have a piece of the child.
Solomon did this so that he could see which women would have compassion for the child, who ever
showed such compassion would be the mother. The order was sent out to split the child but one
woman says not to cut the baby but to give it to the other women. With seeing this sign of compassion
towards the child Solomon doesn t cut the child but gives it to the women that would have rather lost
her child to another women than see him die. Solomon granted that woman with the child. For the way
that Solomon just knew who to give the child to had the people of Israel in awe and they perceived
that he received this wisdom from God. Solomon was an intelligent man he knew he couldn t run the
empire alone so he appointed three new members of his cabinet and an officer for every one of the
twelve tribes that Israel was split into. The tribes or districts were created to make his job easier and
the people of Israel much less quarrelsome with each other. These twelve

Comparing Grendel And Beowulf
After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the
character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel
s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals.
While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulf s predictable
narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendel is filled with
complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. The analyzation
required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the stories were written for.
Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to
come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood.
For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and then moments later
contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man beside him and, without any
warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d
come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing
back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age.
Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only
physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the
things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during
his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel
starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that
he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own,
something he uses to his advantage in later battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf

Duty And Damnation In Antigone
Antigone: Duty or Damnation
Daily we are faced with the perpetual issue of good versus evil? Right versus wrong, all the while
attempting to find a safe middle ground on which to stand so we may distance ourselves from
distasteful situations. Humanity often finds itself standing idly by, allowing others to make the hard
decisions, letting apathy take over and being blindly lead. Nevertheless, for some this blind faith is not
always a viable option
Brave, doomed Antigone goes through many emotions and struggles heavily under her burden,
knowing from the beginning what she must, and will do. Our focal point however is centered on King
Creon and Antigone concentrating on her reluctance to obey his decree that she views as unjust. King
Creon is

Farm-Raised Salmon Research Paper
There are many risks associated with eating farm raised salmon versus wild caught salmon. One risk
that farm raised salmon faces is contaminants that can lead to cancer. Farm raised salmon are placed in
artificially made bodies of water such as ponds, lakes, and salt water and within these bodies of water,
contaminants such as PCBs can be present. Cancer causing chemicals can be present in both the water,
farm raised salmon swims in, and the food they eat. Another risk with farm raised salmon is the use of
antibiotics in order to keep the fish healthy. This unknown amount of antibiotics used on the fish can
lead to a resistance to the antibiotic used to kill the bacteria s in both human and the salmon. The
humans that are consuming the fish that possess these antibiotics are unintentionally ... Show more

Although there are not as many benefits to consuming farm raised salmon as there are to consuming
wild caught salmon, some benefits still do exist. For starters, farm raised salmon is much cheaper than
wild salmon. So for someone who is poor or trying to save money but still wanting to consume the
benefits that salmon contains, they have an option of purchasing a cheaper alternative. The second
benefit to consuming farm raised salmon is that it is more available and easier to get than wild salmon.
If you want to eat salmon for dinner and the supermarket doesn t have wild salmon, an easier
alternative is just to buy the farm raised salmon. There are multiple benefits in consuming wild caught
salmon. For starters wild caught salmon contains less calories than farm raised salmon and wild
salmon also has a lower percentage of saturated fat, which is a type of fat you want to stay away from.
Another benefit to consuming wild caught salmon is that there are fewer contaminants considering the
water they swim in and the food they eat is part of a natural diet and food

The Causes Of The Industrial Strike In 1900 s Industrial
In Chicago, on May 4, 1886, a riot broke out between German born labor radicals and Chicago law
enforcement officers. The demonstration, organized to protest the killing of a striker by the Chicago
police the day before and for an eight hour workday, attracted about One thousand five hundred
protestors. However, when the riot began there were only approximately three hundred protestors left
due to rain. About half way through the rally, two hundred Chicago policemen arrived to end the
protest. The riot started when an unknown individual threw a bomb at the police officers. The crowd
of officers then opened fire on the protestors, killing over twelve and injuring almost one hundred.
About suspects were convicted and their sentences ranged from fifteen years in prison to life in prison
to execution. The events that took place in Chicago, on May 4, 1886 were horrible, clearly
demonstrating the importance of peacefully protesting and that the U.S. government should not
interfere with demonstrations such as this one.
The Homestead Strike was an industrial strike at the Carnegie Steel Company plant that occurred in
Homestead, Pennsylvania, on July 6, 1892. Many regard it as one of the most violent labor strikes in
United States History. The strike began when the manager of the plant, Henry Clay Frick, closed the
mill after the workers rejected his proposed twenty two percent wage cut. Frick hired approximately
three hundred men from the Pinkerton Defective Agency to guard the

Ted Kooser s Poem, Surviving
Omnipresent Death
Ted Kooser s poem, Surviving , can be interpreted in many different ways. At first the poem seems to
be about a man who is watching a bug being attentive to its surroundings and the bug having the fear
of death. Another way to interpret this poem is that death is unrelenting. Even when the speaker seems
to have ceased the image of death, it finds its way back. This is prevalent because the speaker starts
talking about the fear of death, then altering the tone by describing this bug he witnesses. The speaker
then leaves the reader uncertain at the end of the poem. Ted Kooser reveals the uncertainty of the bugs
near future in the last line of the poem. A careful analysis of the poem, the poem is truly about a man
in his final stages of life being attentive to death and the beauty of the bug he observes.
The speaker has a fear of death and cannot escape its presence. The author states, There are days when
the fear of death/ is ubiquitous as light (Kooser 1 2). This line is a simile that compares the fear of
death to the presence of light. This line has a very negative connotation, because the speaker is
stressing that the only things visible are seen as a way to die. This statement does not t reveal if the
speaker himself has this fear of death. This line does indicate that the speaker thinks about death a lot,
but does not think of death everyday. This means the author may think about death when he alone or
sad. The speaker states that the fear of death

Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1
Salema: The Crisis No. 1 is a 16 pamphlet series written by Thomas Paine in December of 1776
(Paine 86). It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described
the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the
American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He
also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and
figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country.
There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this
essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule.
He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the
British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when
telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his
child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of
his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos when he equates offensive
war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder...
(Paine 90).
In conclusion, The Crisis No. 1 influenced many ideas in the American Revolution,

The Objectives Of The Mercury Project
The objectives of the Mercury Project, as stated at the time of project go ahead, were as follows:
Place a manned spacecraft in orbital flight around the earth.
Investigate man s performance capabilities and his ability to function in the environment of space.
Recover the man and the spacecraft safely. After the objectives were established for the project, a
number of guidelines were established to insure that the most expedient and safest approach for
attainment of the objectives was followed. The basic guidelines that were established are as follows:
Existing technology and off the shelf equipment should be used wherever practical.
The simplest and most reliable approach to system design would be followed.
An existing launch ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Items (2) and (5) have been made apparent by the manner in which the astronaut has manually
controlled the attitude of the spacecraft during orbital maneuvers, retrofire, and reentry, and by the
recovery of the spacecraft and astronauts after each flight by recovery forces which included aircraft
carriers and destroyers. Basically, the equipment used in the spacecraft was derived from off the shelf
equipment or through the direct application of existing technology, although some notable exceptions
were made in order to improve reliability and flight safety. These exceptions include:
An automatic blood pressure measuring system for use in flight.
Instruments for sensing the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the oxygen atmosphere
of the cabin and suit, respectively. Some may argue with the detailed way in which the second basic
guideline of simplicity was carried out; however, this guideline was carried out to the extent possible
within the volume, weight, and redundancy requirements imposed upon the overall system. The effect
of the weight and volume constraints, of course, resulted in smaller and lighter equipment that could
not always be packaged in an optimum way for simplicity.
Redundancy probably increased the complexity of the systems more than

One evening Jo goes upstairs to tend to Beth, when she realizes that Beth is no longer sleeping. Beth is
still, pale, has thin cheeks and is not breathing. As Jo quietly mourns by herself, she thinks about what
her life will be like without Beth as her arms instinctively tightened their hold upon the dearest
treasure she possessed. (285)
As years progress, Jo feels lost without her Beth. She pulls away from the world and becomes bitter
until Professor Bhaer comes to visit. She unleashes all her frustrations, worries, and hopes on him and
realizes that she doesn t want to get hurt again. Losing Beth was her first heartache, and she doesn t
want to have another. As Mr. Bhaer and Jo talk, Jo also discovers that she has deep feelings for him,
but doesn t want to act on them, as it would not be proper for a lady in her time.
The professor leaves for a couple of years for a job in the west, but promises to be back. In between
this time, they keep in touch and both eventually admit their feelings for each other, and decide that

China s Politics And Economy
In addition, China s politics and economy have great differences with western countries because of the
special national conditions, that the political power (or government) may have a prominent or even
overwhelming strength relative to the economy (or business), which may have a decisive influence on
economic development. First, the government lead economy has caused excessive pursuit of economic
development but neglect the quality of development (Zhou, Zhang Shen, 2015). Second is the
government s control and allocation of resources and the dominant mode of development of the state
owned economy have caused a series of problems like the loss of economic benefits to a certain extent
(Dollar, 1990). So the excessive concentration of political and administrative power caused by the low
degree legalization and democratization in Chinese economy may have resulted in some obstacles in
the economic development to enterprises, and this kind of rent seeking which has political power to
control economic resources and the right of examination and approval maybe one of the reasons
caused China s corruption and damaged the normal order of the market economy. In western
countries, companies could hire a lobby group to lobby government in order to gain some benefits and
a lot of countries such as the United States have the Federal Regulation of lobbying act that make
constraint on lobbying (Hansen Mitchell, 2000). But for enterprises in China, to develop good
relations ( Guanxi )

Descriptive Essay About Snow Angel
Snow Angel
Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Angelina whose dream was to have a chance at seeing the
world and the seven wonders it held. Perhaps, someday, she sighed, looking out her bedroom window.
For now, the one room apartment her family shared with her and someday were enough. For years, it
seemed it would always be.
But, one day, on her way back home from buying salt from the market, a goblin appeared and strolled
up to Angelina. He had a smug walk and a smile that carried malicious intent. Using his charisma, he
proposed a bargain. Suddenly, enough was insufficient.
Goblins were not to be trusted, especially those that made deals . . . but, a world of infinite wonders
for a morsel of salt seemed generous too generous. That s what she said when he asked, but his wild
tales about the ecstasy of joy he could gift to her intrigued her.
The goblin began to bounce around, and the grin on his face made Angelina envious. So, you re
turning down the mere proposition of absolute happiness compared to your dull and mundane life
because . . . the fairy tales tell you goblins play tricks? he questioned. You re smarter than that, aren t
you?
I. . . . Angelina didn t know what to say.
You haven t got much time to decide, dearie. I ve got plenty of offers waiting on the other side of
town, but I thought a lovely lass like you might need a little bit of cheerin up. His smirk challenged

QUESTIONS: Should Tweeter continue with its Automatic Price

Tweeter should continue with its current Marketing strategy based on APP policy and Every day Fair

loyalty. The shift from having continuous Sales Events to fair pricing and price protection has been
proven successful as same store sales have increased, new stores have delivered consistent sales and

proposition and differentiation will be key drivers in order to keep current customers satisfied. 20% of
tweeter customers are price biters, so these customers could be potentially lost to lower cost perceived
retailers. With APP introduction Tweeter could overcome price competition by offering current
customers the peace of mind that they will pay the lowest price without the need of lowering retail
prices and continue to offer great customer service. This strategy works perfectly because customers
will not see cheap retail prices which could trade down Tweeter s image of being a high end quality
retailer to a low cost cheap retailer.

To What Extent Can Blanche Dubois Be Described as a Victim...
This play is about people who display cruelty and harshness in their treatment to others, especially
those who are weak and vulnerable. Blanche Dubois is the central victim of mistreatment even though
she had tried to make Stanley the victim. She displays her self as fragile and moth like, dealing out her
share of insensitivities that happened during her younger days. Also because of her moth like image,
the other characters see her as an easy target to knock down and use her insecurities against her. Her
figure and appearance also reveals her vulnerability and delicacy. Slim figure, face of delicate, fading

not just her self that put her in the lime light of being a victim; it is also her new change of
environment and people. Stanley is Stella s husband; he is described to be very masculine and aware
of his sexual magnetism. Strongly, compactly built . He is mostly at ease with people however, if they
lack loyalty and affection to him, he will bully them. Especially women, as he believes them just to be
easy conflict. It is seen in scene 3 that Stanley has little respect for women. I said to hush up! This is
addressed to his wife who is seen emotionless and impassive in this play. As for Blanche how is fussy
and at edge, she would be very effected by the crude attitude that Stanley presents and so tries to
hysterical take Stella away from her husband. Stanley does not forget of this act of interference and
makes him all the more determined to be rid of Stella s charity case . The real reason for Stanley s
bulling is that Blanche immediately received all Stella s attention. How about my supper huh? I m not
going to no Galatorires for supper This made Stella dominant in power over Stanley and Blanche,
something Stanley was not used to. I put you a cold plate on ice .

Canadian Geography
Canada has an extremley large geography which plays a tremendous role on many factors that affect
Canadians. These factors both help and hinder Canada economically, socially and politically. The
geography of Canada has also caused regions to form. For the most part, these regions exist due to
physical that are present in Canada s landscape. Canada s geography has also had a large impact on
the influences that affect settlers. Canada s relatively low popuation in comparison to the large land

Addiction to Heroin
Heroin and its subsequent misuse has been a contentious issue plaguing society for decades. With the
advent of the internet, it is becoming more difficult to curtail many of the illegal activities individuals
engage in regards to drug use. Heroin in particular is very pervasive in the United States as it is a drug
that is highly addictive. In America, drugs are becoming a very serious issue as immigrants enter into
the country illegally carrying the drug with them. Heroin, although mainly created in Afghanistan and
China, is often brought to the United States illegally from Latin countries. By entering into the country
these individuals provide drugs and other narcotics to disseminate among the masses. Even more
troublesome, it seems that little is being done to help prevent the influence of drugs within American
society (Eric, 2008). According to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use, the number of current
heroin users increased from 153,000 in 2007 to 213,000 in 2008. One issue that is especially
interesting is substance abuse among many young individuals and how that affects HIV rates within
the American population. Many individuals are not concerned with drug use among the young
population. It is my contention however, that drug use among the young has a profound impact on the
society in which we live in.
To begin, Heroin is an opiate drug which is extracted from the Asian opium poppy plant. Heroin is
usually seen as a white powdery substance. In rare instances

Analytic Thinking, Religion, and Prejudice
The relation between and the intersection of religion and analytic thinking are complex and
intransigently debated topic in the both social psychology and cognitive science literature for a
decade. Moreover, the idea that religions facilitate acts that cause the negative attitudes toward
especially religious out groups has relatively a long theoretical and empirical history in social
psychology (Allport Ross, 1967; Altemeyer Hunsberger, 1992; Spilka, 1986; Whitley Bernard,1999)
and is the main idea behind the evolutionary origins of religion (Atran Heinrich, 2010; Bering, 2011;
Norenzayan Shariff, 2008; Preston Ritter, 2013; Rand et al., 2014; Shariff Norenzayan, 2007; Sosis
Alcorta, 2003) which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In all experiments, those who primed with analytic thinking expressed less belief in a personal God:
an average of about 41 on a 100 point scale for experimental group as compared to an average of 61
for control group. Although this finding is robust in different demographic variations, little is known
about its applicability to different religions which have Big Gods . (The term Big Gods refer to
omnipresent and omniscient moralizing agent (Shariff Norenzayan, 2007) and this is unique to the
three big religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam). Moreover, although they noted that the
manipulations did merely a dip in religious beliefs of participants instead of an extreme change, it is
unclear whether analytic thinking can decrease religious beliefs of highly religious people.
Nevertheless, between subject design had no possibility to do that; therefore, a within subject
replication of this effect is necessary to show its robustness.
Religion and Prejudice Cooperation requires acting and working together for the mutual benefits of
the members of the in group; that is, cooperative intentions toward in group members. Accordingly, it
is generally thought that religiosity evolved with the object of constructing large scale societies where
the anonymous interaction among genetically unrelated members of society is crucial (Norenzayan

Maternal effects on egg investment and offspring performance in black widow spiders. Animal
Behaviour, 91, 67 73.
Q.1 The study addressed questions like what effects maternal foraging success would have on
maternal body condition, fecundity, egg investment and whether an abundance in prey for the mother
would have positive effects on offspring traits like shapes maternal body condition, fecundity and egg
investment, and that maternal prey abundance has a positive, cross generational effect on a number of
important offspring traits, for example, sibling cannibalism in black widow spiders.
Q.2 The findings of this study include the knowledge that maternal foraging success is indeed
responsible for better maternal body condition, egg sac mass, egg number, mass, size and density rate.
Some exceptions were also observed where the mothers given the high nutrition treatment made low

Democratic Vs. Democratic Policy
Democracy is a form of government in which the people hold the power to freely elect a government.
Unfortunately in many democratic states, the government does not completely uphold democratic
ideologies such as this; resulting in democratic deficit. Democratic deficit can be defined as the gap
between the principles and the practice of democracy. It is inevitable in practice however, as no state
can truly uphold all principles of democracy and still govern effectively. The issue that Canada faces is
not whether democratic deficit exists in government, it is to what degree. And particularly, to what
effect it has on the function and fairness of the county. In most modern democracies there is little
restriction on the citizen s ability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Candidate nomination is the party activity that gives the general public the greatest influence over the
particular party. However, less than two percent of voters participate in their riding s nomination for a
particular party s representative and only one third to a half of the party members are estimated to
participate. The difficultly that opposes the general population is that an individual needs to sign up to
be a member of the particular party and in many rural constituencies, travel from their residence to a
chosen location of meeting to participate. The fact that the general electorate participation is so low
benefits the party executive because it gives them more control over the elected representative. This
strategy is far from democratic but with many citizens feeling less attached to a particular party, with
less than 50 percent of Canadians even identify[ing] with a political party , the effort and commitment
required does not appear to pay off. A second issue with the system of nomination is that the party
leader has the ability to veto any constituency s representative if they do not consider them to be
aligned with the party s ideologies. An example of this is in 1974 when Robert Stanfield denied the
party label to Leonard

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electoral System
The Oxford Dictionary (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2016) defines an election as a formal and organised
choice by vote of a person for a political office or other position . This is the same in all democratic
countries, however, no two countries have the exact same procedure for carrying out elections. There
are many ways in which elections can differ from state to state, for example, does the entire
population have the same choice of people to vote for or is the voting based on constituencies, or are
people voting for individuals or a whole party. The variation between them lies within the electoral
systems employed in each of these countries. Electoral systems are simply the rules of elections and
how they are conducted. The electoral system affects the type and level of interaction between
politicians and constituents (PR STV and localism in Irish politics, 2011).
In Ireland, since gaining independence in 1922, representatives of Dáil Eireann have been elected by
proportional representation by single transferable vote (Gallagher, 2016). In 1937 it was set out in
Bunreacht na hEireann that Dail Eireann shall be composed of members who represent constituencies

This representation can sometimes mean a member of the Dáil prioritises the good of their own local
people instead of what is best for the state. Candidates in the general election have to make certain
promises to their community in the hopes of being elected and if elected have to do their best to ensure
they will be re elected by keeping their supporters content. This may not seem like such a negative
effect at first but it can result in a parliament, weakened by its members lack of focus on national
issues, and thereby unable to fully hold the government to account (PR STV and localism in Irish

The Manifestations of Marxism in The God of Small Things
Arundhati Roy s novel The God of Small Things presents the reader with the realities of Marxism.
Roy gives the reader an impression of three possible manifestations of the ideology, rather than
presenting a biased reading for or against Marxism. Through Roy s novel the reader comes to
understand Marxism as it appears through Velutha, the oppressed worker, Chacko the Marxist in name
only, and Comrade Pillai, the corrupt politician. Comrade Pillai epitomizes the idea of a corrupt
politician. During his first scene in the novel, Roy describes him as walking through the world like a
chameleon. Never revealing himself, never appearing not to. Emerging through chaos unscathed. (Roy
15) Furthermore, Comrade Pillai champions himself as an ally of the oppressed and common people,
but it is in reality a façade. Comrade Pillai is in reality a champion only for his own interests. An
example of Comrade s Pillai s selfish corruption is the way that he watches the workers of Paradise
Pickles and Preserves: Comrade Pillai had begun to watch the goings on at Paradise Pickles with the
keenness of a substitute at a soccer match. To bring in a new labor union, however small, in what he
hoped to be his future constituency would be an excellent beginning for a journey to the Legislative
Assembly. (Roy 114) Roy uses the phrase keenness of a substitute at a soccer match to describe
Comrade Pillai s attitude toward the workers of Paradise Pickles and Preserves. This phrase seems to

A Rose For Emily Analysis
There is the macrocosmic setting of the South that lends a sense of place, both physical and
psychological, to A Rose for Emily, as well as the microcosmic setting of the house in which Emily
has spent most of her adult life in bed with the corpse of her fiance. Both places are critical and are
used to reinforce the psychological landscape of the story.
In A Rose for Emily, the entire community conspires to protect both Emily and the small town from
the shame and stigma of Emily s illness and idiosyncratic behavior. The story focuses on Emily
Grierson, the last living Grierson. Emily is an older lady living in Mississippi. As new town leaders
take over, they make unsuccessful attempts to get Emily to resume payments on her taxes. She says
that Colonel Sartoris has told her she has no taxes in Jefferson, though the Colonel had been dead for
almost a decade. The main setting of the story is a creepy old house in Jefferson, Mississippi where
Emily Grierson, the last living Grierson, lives. The house is not only old, but very run down. The
setting of A Rose for Emily helps develop a plot line which examines the effects of loneliness and
isolation have on a person s psyche. As a result, the story conveys a true and timeless main theme: one
must change with the times; if one does not change with time, then one falls behind.
Emily finds comfort in how she was treated by her father. She cannot control the fact now that her
father is gone she has a lot more

Reflection On Negotiation Simulation
The negotiation simulation was a very informative and interesting assignment from beginning to end.
The practical application was unlike anything else we ve been required to complete thus far in our
program. The ability to openly engage in a mock negotiation was very insightful, and allowed me to
further develop an understanding of the intricate underworking s of the personal interactions and
preparations that define how the negotiation unfolds. I enjoyed the insight into the perspective of the
union s side of negotiation, as I typically assume a perspective from management when considering
negotiations and their implications. This allowed me to understand the viewpoint and strategies
accompanying the union s side of the negotiation, which could prove invaluable to me in the future.
During the negotiation process, I learned many important lessons. Primarily I learned that no matter
how straightforward you believe your facts are, there is multiple ways to interpret statistics and facts,
as well as, a plethora of metrics that measure similar variables. In other words, I learned the
importance of being prepared to deal with a variety of scenarios and opposing bargaining strategies.
This came into play during the negotiation of my article of paid vacations. When negotiating this
article, I prepared using primarily the statistics provided in the excel files. I used the numbers of
weeks of vacation in relation to the seniority and compared this metric to that of the other 17

A Hero s Journey
Shortly after the discovery that my beloved wife had gone missing, I began to retrace my steps in
search of her. I believe I must have lost her in the process of cycling up the hill; however, I cannot
seem to make out which path I had come from. The night was closing in and I have yet to figure out
which path I had come from. I stood at the fork staring blankly at the rusty colored dirt. My first
thought was maybe she was sitting under a tree a few feet away from the road. I looked about for her
golden hair to peak through the limbs, but I could see no sign of her. I called her name, and again, no
sign. I thought to myself, perhaps she had gone to look for help at one of the nearby farms, but that
seemed fairly unlikely. My wife was not of Dutch origin, and her tongue for the language was fairly
unintelligible. I called her name several times before I heard the loud clonking of an animals hoof, a
horse, perhaps. I squinted at the path ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and I jogged swiftly towards the farmer. Hello, sir! Boy, I am glad to see you. I have lost my way
among these paths, and I am in search for my wife! It s quite funny, actually, I was cycling over a
great hill and suddenly my legs had become stronger! Oh, but of course it was just my wife, who had
seemingly jumped off of the cycle. Aha! I m searching for her now, have you seen her? She likes to
talk a lot, if you must know. He stared at me with a look of amusement, and then spoke with a
chuckle, I haven t seen your wife, sir, but I do know there is a town just down this path. Perhaps she is
there. I wish you luck on your journey, good fellow. He slipped past me and continued down the path
whistling to himself. I chuckled at how peculiar the man seemed, then mounted my bicycle and

Master And Margarita Good Vs Evil Essay
What is Good If There is No Evil?
This satire involves the devil, a psych ward, and love. Although this story is fictional, it allegorises
historical events. The Master and Margarita was written in the time of Stalinism. Mikhail Bulgakov,
the author, used a lot of symbolism and magical realism to write about the environment he was in
without being forthright about it. He used polarities, such as good vs evil and rational vs irrational, to
get his point across to readers. The theme of The Master and Margarita is that there is always good in
evil and evil in good. The motifs that Mikhail Bulgakov displayed throughout The Master and
Margarita are the disguises of the devil and the behavior of nature.
One motif that led to the realization of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ideas Of Einstein And Freud
Mr. Schneiders World History Kyndall Roberts Feb. 12, 2015 Section 1: Question 3: The ideas of
Einstein and Freud were revolutionary because of how they shaped faith of reasoning and science.
Einstein shook the ideas and laws that Isaac Newton had formerly created about motion and gravity. In
1905, Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, which stated that although the speed of
light is constant, other things like space and time are not. He believed that speed and time can change
when it is measured relatively to an object moving near the speed of light about 186,000 miles/hour.
These ideas had implications not only for science, but for the world. There was uncertainty and
relativity that replaced the sense of security that came with Isaac Newton s laws. Einstein and Isaac s
point of views were very different. Sigmund Freud had ideas that were as revolutionary as Einstein s.
Freud treated psychology patients. From his experiences, he constructed a theory about the human
mind. He came up with the idea that a part of the human mind is irrational, but it is now called the
unconscious. In the unconscious, many drives existed, such as pleasure seeking drives that the
conscious mind was unaware of. Freud s ideas actually weakened faith in reasoning. By the 1920 s,
Freud s ideas had developed widespread influence. Question 4: Literature in the 1920 s was affected
by World War 1. The brutality of the war caused philosophers and writers to question ideas about

Ozymandias Poem Analysis
Ozymandias is a poem written from the perspective of a man who has been told about a statue in the
desert the statue is of famous powerful pharaoh Ozymandia, but it is now crumbling and destroyed.
The poem explores how power can be arrogant and cruel, but ultimately can t last forever. The poem
however is not aztualy about ozymandais, ozymandais is just a metaphor for all kings paricullarly
George 3rd as he was in power at the time the poem was written. John agards poem, checking out e
history is written from th prespective of a boy who is taught about British history in school but not
about his own countries history. The theme of power is presented as the poem critiscizes those in
power and effectively mocks the history he has been taught aboyt in school. The poem is also about
how knowing your history is key t knowing your identity and knowing your identity empowers you.
Ozymandias power is presented as being evil and cruel . The description of his statue s facial
expression sneer of cold command suggests arrogance and shows that the slaves who built the statues
purposely portrayed this look on his face to mock ozymandias. Also the writing which appears on the
statue s pedestal: king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! shows how big his ego is.
The phrase king of kings is used in the bible to describe jesus. So ozymandais effectively thinks of
himself as god like . Shelley continues to portray this as he uses juxtaposition when writing the
description of the statue as it is now a colossal wreck , which is in decay and shatter d . He emphasizes
how the art work has outlived and utpowered O zymandais . Through the Poem shelley ontinues to
show the poem of man weak .This contrasts with the images of art and nature, which he portrays as
being superior and long lasting through his description of the artists skills which yet survive, stamp d
on these lifeless things, and the neverending landscape boundless and bare, the lone and level sands
stretch far away. Similarily, in checking out me history, josn agard talks about the power of black and
white historical figures. The poem uses repetition and short sentences to portray his anger right from

Determining Sample Size1 Glenn D. Israel2 Perhaps the most frequently asked question concerning
sampling is, What size sample do I need? The answer to this question is influenced by a number of
factors, including the purpose of the study, population size, the risk of selecting a bad sample, and the
allowable sampling error. Interested readers may obtain a more detailed discussion of the purpose of
the study and population size in Sampling The Evidence Of Extension Program Impact, PEOD 5

for determining the sample size. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using Formulas To Calculate A Sample Size Although tables can provide a useful guide for
determining the sample size, you may need to calculate the necessary sample size for a different
combination of levels of precision, confidence, and variability. The fourth approach to determining
sample size is the application of one of several formulas (Equation 5 was used to calculate the sample
sizes in Table 1 and Table 2 ). Equation 5. Formula For Calculating A Sample For Proportions For
populations that are large, Cochran (1963:75) developed the Equation 1 to yield a representative
sample for proportions. Equation 1. Which is valid where n0 is the sample size, Z2 is the abscissa of
the normal curve that cuts off an area at the tails (1 equals the desired confidence level, e.g., 95%)1, e
is the desired level of precision, p is the estimated proportion of an attribute that is present in the
population, and q is 1 p. The value for Z is found in statistical tables which contain the area under the
normal curve. To illustrate, suppose we wish to evaluate a state wide Extension program in which
farmers were encouraged to adopt a new practice. Assume there is a large population but that we do
not know the variability in the proportion that will adopt the practice; therefore, assume p=.5
(maximum variability). Furthermore, suppose we desire a 95% confidence level and ±5% precision.
The resulting sample size is demonstrated in Equation 2. Equation 2.

Your Future With Brand Building
INTRODUCTION
Brand Building and Management is when a consumable item is being marketed or sold to a consumer
or retailer. Building is known as creating, constructing, developing something, being it a house, a car,

the brand to grow larger, grow stronger, increase the demographic variety to use/consume the brand, to
increase and better the brand all together. Management this is where the w questions will be asked;
Who? will be managing your brand, why? would you let this person manage your brand, and so on.
Brand Building is defined by QFinance 2009 as: the establishment and improvement of a brand s
identity, including giving the brand a set of values that the consumer wants, recognizes, identifies
with, and trusts. Values developed in the process of brand building include psychological, physical,
and functional properties that consumers desire and should always identify a property that is unique to
that brand.
Management is defined by Brevis, Cronje, Smit and Vrba as the necessary activities for an
organisation to function, by using the process of controlling, organizing, leading and planning of the
available resources to achieve goals by using as little of the resources as possible.

Boxing History
Boxing is one of the oldest known sports, from 2,000 year old depictions on the walls of tombs in
Egypt, to stone carvings indicating that Sumerians, who lived in what is now Iraq, boxed over 5,000
years ago. However, this is not the boxing that we know today, it was once a more exhausting and
brutal sport. In ancient Greece, two men would sit face to face with their fists wrapped in strips of
leather. They would hit each other until one of them fell to the ground unconscious or dead. Roman
fighters wore cestuses, leather straps plated with metal, which promoted shortened bouts. The sport
was eventually prohibited due to the inhumane violence. Boxing would not reappear until the late
1600s in England. Then, in the 1700s modern boxing was introduced, ... Show more content on

One of the most famous incidents dealt with Muhammad Ali in 1967. During this time, he was the
undefeated heavyweight champion of the world and highly acclaimed. Ali was arguably in his prime
when was called to join the Vietnam draft. He did not believe in the Vietnam War, due to his beliefs in
his newfound Muslim faith, and refused to join the draft. He was stripped of his heavyweight title and
on April 28, 1967, he protested by refusing to step forward when his name was called, resulting in his
arrest. The New York State Athletic Commission, the most influential boxing commission at the time,
decided to revoke Ali s boxing license before he was even convicted. For three years, he wasn t
allowed to box, Ali had to speak at various colleges to make enough money to put food on the table
and pay his bills. Ali was reinstated in 1970, but three of his best years as a professional were gone.
Ali was close to 30, leaving the world to only wonder what those three years could have produced.
The other infamous boxing incident was the Mike Tyson vs. Evan Holyfield fight in 1997. Both
fighters had history with each other and the excitement behind the fight was high. Holyfield beat
Tyson the year before saying that, Tyson was no longer the baddest man on the planet. However,
during the second round of Tyson Holyfield, Tyson received a cut from a Holyfield headbutt. The

moves back into the streak of light. She raises her arms and stretches, as she moves indolently back to

to his masculinity. This contributes to the tragedy that unfolds towards the end of the play. Williams
again uses irony just before the rape of Blanche, as Stanley tells her that they have had this date with
each other from the beginning. As the sexual tension between Stanley and Blanche, and Blanche s
mental state reaches its climax, the reader experiences her tragic

Country Profile on Finland
Country Profile on Finland
Finland is a republic located in Northern Europe between Sweden and Russia, with Norway to the
north. Finland is thought to have been settled soon after the Ice Age and first inhabited by the Sami
people. By the 12th century, Finns speakers had pushed the Sami people out and Christian mercenaries
were preparing to convert Finland. In 1157, as a result of a crusade led by Swedish King Eric IX,
Sweden conquered Finland and as such, converted Finland to Christianity. However, by 1809, Sweden
surrendered Finland to Russia. The Czar, Alexander I of Russia, set up Finland as a Grand Duchy,
establishing himself as its monarch.
In 1917, in the midst of the March Revolution in Russia, where Russians protested as a result of the
effects of World War I, Finland took advantage of the time to declare its independence from Russia. In
1919, Finland adopted the constitution that is still used today and became a republic. By 1939, Finland
was once again attacked by the Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin offered Finland territory in exchange for
land that would protect northern Russia from an attack from the west. However, Finland refused to
accept this offer and the Soviet Union used force to obtain the territory, starting The Winter War. After
a few months of resistance, The Finns lost and the war culminated with the Treaty of Moscow, which
resulted in Finland surrendering 1and to the Soviet Union.

Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay
That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be getting a
decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay more for the
food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a tax on junk food
won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from overconsuming junk foods,
but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s something that s not going to
happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that smoking is taxed because it s pernicious
not only to the person concerned, but the society around them and even though smoking is taxed,
people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but
the number of people that smoke has decreased by a reasonable amount. Research..... Therefore if the
government puts a tax on junk food it will have a corresponding effect as to how smoking was taxed.
The government needs to establish a tax on all unhealthy foods and uses the money to subsidize fruit
and vegetables and promote and educate healthy eating in schools. By doing this type two diabetes
and obesity and the health issues that have been derived from these epidemics will decrease this will
mean that more people will be healthier and therefore live longer. At the moment junk food is
ludicrously cheap; you just have to go into your local supermarket to see that a bottle of

  • 2. Symbols Of The Caribbean Culture There are multiple cultures around the world that influence a country s way of living. A culture is the way in which certain groups behave, think, and what tangible objects they bring value to. The Colombian culture is profoundly influenced by the Spanish culture, but has many distinct factors that allow it to properly function. The first component of culture is symbols. Symbols are anything with significance and value shared by the people in a culture. A symbol most countries value is their national flag. The colors of the Colombian flag each symbolize a characteristic ideal for a strong country. The yellow horizontal stripe is a reference to the wealth in gold Colombia withheld before the arrival of Spaniards. The blue depicts the oceans lining the outer regions of the country. A second interpretation of the flag s blue color is the country s loyalty and consciousness. Lastly, the red reflects the bravery Colombians inherited during their victorious fight for independence as well as a recognition for those who lost their lives (Colombia s National Symbols, 2017). Another national symbol in Colombia is the Coat of Arms. The Coat of Arms is a national symbol of their motto Libertad y Orden which translates to Liberty and Order . The national bird, Andean condor, has an important meaning to the roots of Colombians, dating back to the indigenous Andean culture. The Andean people used the vulture as a symbol of health and power. Gestures as well are symbols that give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Role Of Myrtle Wilson In The Great Gatsby In the novel, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the American Dream is an important motif. Almost all the characters dreams are mentioned and almost all of their dreams are not fulfilled, but one particular character s attempt to achieve this dream leads to their morbid downfall. Myrtle Wilson s American Dream is to marry the aristocratic Tom Buchanan, but we see that she does not achieve this dream by annoying Tom, and then dying at the end of the novel. First, by annoying Tom and therefor being insubordinate, Myrtle does not achieve her dream. The novel states, Sometime forwards midnight Tom Buchanan and Mrs. Wilson stood face to face, discussing in impassioned voices whether Mrs. Wilson had any right to mention Daisy s name (Fitzgerald 37). This is an example from the novel where we see Myrtle arguing with Tom and being insubordinate. She had recently mentioned Daisy s name and Tom was not pleased about it, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book states, The death car as the newspapers called it, didn t stop... Myrtle Wilson, her life violently extinguished, knelt in the road and mingled her thick dark blood with the dust (137). Myrtle gets hit by a car that would not stop. We later learn that the car was Gatsby s yellow car and that it was Daisy whom was driving it. Myrtle is running at the car thinking that it is Tom, coming to get her, but she is hit with a rather unpleasant surprise. It is slightly ironic that Myrtle was always envious of what Daisy had, and that in the end, it was Daisy who killed Myrtle. The book states, Myrtle Wilsons body wrapped in a blanket...lay on a work table by the wall (138). In the duration of chapter seven, Nick sees Myrtle Wilsons body on a table covered and wrapped in multiple blankets. This is when the reader realizes that Myrtle is dead. By quite literally running towards her dream, Myrtle Wilson dies; therefor she does not achieve her American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay King Solomon King Solomon one of the most influential kings in the entire bible Solomon was a wise king and was gifted as well as punished for his transgressions on his people and God. This paper will show how Solomon was thought to be one of the greatest kings of the bible, his contributions on the lively hood of the Israelite people and how he was sent to bring the people into a new type of living for the people of Israel. This paper will give a personal account on my reason for thinking that Solomon is a great king of his time. Solomon was born the son of Bathsheba and thought to be the illegitimate son of David. The people accepted this since Bathsheba was a prostitute, and Solomon was to be the heir of the throne regardless of any parental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This gift made Solomon loved by all people of his kingdom. Solomon used his wisdom to make a decision about two women and a dead baby. This story in the bible shows how two prostitutes who both have given birth to a child are arguing because one of the babies has died and the mother of the dead baby wants to claim the living one. They come to see king Solomon for a judgement, he tells the women that he would cut the baby in half so that both women would have a piece of the child. Solomon did this so that he could see which women would have compassion for the child, who ever showed such compassion would be the mother. The order was sent out to split the child but one woman says not to cut the baby but to give it to the other women. With seeing this sign of compassion towards the child Solomon doesn t cut the child but gives it to the women that would have rather lost her child to another women than see him die. Solomon granted that woman with the child. For the way that Solomon just knew who to give the child to had the people of Israel in awe and they perceived that he received this wisdom from God. Solomon was an intelligent man he knew he couldn t run the empire alone so he appointed three new members of his cabinet and an officer for every one of the twelve tribes that Israel was split into. The tribes or districts were created to make his job easier and the people of Israel much less quarrelsome with each other. These twelve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Grendel And Beowulf After reading the classic Anglo Saxon tale, Beowulf, readers find themselves engrossed in the character of Grendel. This interest led to John Gardner s creation of Grendel, a novel that tells Grendel s side of the story and gives readers a deeper understanding of the character s personality and morals. While the two stories use the same characters, they are still extremely different. Beowulf s predictable narrative and basic language make the story very easy to comprehend, while Grendel is filled with complex phrasing and intricate characters that require intense analyzation to decipher. The analyzation required to truly understand Grendel displays the varying audiences the stories were written for. Grendel and Beowulf also use completely different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theme coming of age is included in both compositions. Throughout Grendel, Grendel struggles to come to terms with who he is and frequently straddles the border between adulthood and childhood. For example, after getting stuck in a tree, Grendel cries out for his mother and then moments later contemplates the meaning of life: The king snatched an ax from the man beside him and, without any warning, he hurled it at me... I bellowed for my mother...I tried to tell her that happened, all that I d come to understand: the meaningless objectiveness of the world... (Gardner 27 28). This bouncing back and forth between a child s mindset and an adult s shows Grendel s gradual coming of age. Beowulf s main character, Beowulf, is forced to endure many quests that challenge him not only physically, but mentally forcing him to come of age as well. Beowulf has to question many of the things he thought he knew, resulting in him growing wiser, much like Grendel. For example, during his fight with Grendel, Beowulf first says he does not want the help of his Thanes, but when Grendel starts to beat him, his Thanes are forced to step in (Beowulf Lines 80 100). This teaches Beowulf that he needs to accept help in the end and does not always have to accomplish things on his own, something he uses to his advantage in later battles. Altogether, both Grendel and Beowulf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Right versus wrong, all the while attempting to find a safe middle ground on which to stand so we may distance ourselves from distasteful situations. Humanity often finds itself standing idly by, allowing others to make the hard decisions, letting apathy take over and being blindly lead. Nevertheless, for some this blind faith is not always a viable option Brave, doomed Antigone goes through many emotions and struggles heavily under her burden, knowing from the beginning what she must, and will do. • 7. Farm-Raised Salmon Research Paper There are many risks associated with eating farm raised salmon versus wild caught salmon. One risk that farm raised salmon faces is contaminants that can lead to cancer. Farm raised salmon are placed in artificially made bodies of water such as ponds, lakes, and salt water and within these bodies of water, contaminants such as PCBs can be present. Cancer causing chemicals can be present in both the water, farm raised salmon swims in, and the food they eat. Another risk with farm raised salmon is the use of antibiotics in order to keep the fish healthy. This unknown amount of antibiotics used on the fish can lead to a resistance to the antibiotic used to kill the bacteria s in both human and the salmon. • 8. The Causes Of The Industrial Strike In 1900 s Industrial In Chicago, on May 4, 1886, a riot broke out between German born labor radicals and Chicago law enforcement officers. The demonstration, organized to protest the killing of a striker by the Chicago police the day before and for an eight hour workday, attracted about One thousand five hundred protestors. However, when the riot began there were only approximately three hundred protestors left due to rain. About half way through the rally, two hundred Chicago policemen arrived to end the protest. The riot started when an unknown individual threw a bomb at the police officers. The crowd of officers then opened fire on the protestors, killing over twelve and injuring almost one hundred. About suspects were convicted and their sentences ranged from fifteen years in prison to life in prison to execution. The events that took place in Chicago, on May 4, 1886 were horrible, clearly demonstrating the importance of peacefully protesting and that the U.S. government should not interfere with demonstrations such as this one. The Homestead Strike was an industrial strike at the Carnegie Steel Company plant that occurred in Homestead, Pennsylvania, on July 6, 1892. Many regard it as one of the most violent labor strikes in United States History. • 9. Ted Kooser s Poem, Surviving Omnipresent Death Ted Kooser s poem, Surviving , can be interpreted in many different ways. At first the poem seems to be about a man who is watching a bug being attentive to its surroundings and the bug having the fear of death. Another way to interpret this poem is that death is unrelenting. Even when the speaker seems to have ceased the image of death, it finds its way back. This is prevalent because the speaker starts talking about the fear of death, then altering the tone by describing this bug he witnesses. The speaker then leaves the reader uncertain at the end of the poem. Ted Kooser reveals the uncertainty of the bugs near future in the last line of the poem. A careful analysis of the poem, the poem is truly about a man in his final stages of life being attentive to death and the beauty of the bug he observes. The speaker has a fear of death and cannot escape its presence. The author states, There are days when the fear of death/ is ubiquitous as light (Kooser 1 2). This line is a simile that compares the fear of death to the presence of light. This line has a very negative connotation, because the speaker is stressing that the only things visible are seen as a way to die. This statement does not t reveal if the speaker himself has this fear of death. This line does indicate that the speaker thinks about death a lot, but does not think of death everyday. This means the author may think about death when he alone or sad. The speaker states that the fear of death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 Salema: The Crisis No. 1 is a 16 pamphlet series written by Thomas Paine in December of 1776 (Paine 86). It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country. There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule. He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos when he equates offensive war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder... (Paine 90). In conclusion, The Crisis No. 1 influenced many ideas in the American Revolution, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After the objectives were established for the project, a number of guidelines were established to insure that the most expedient and safest approach for attainment of the objectives was followed. Items (2) and (5) have been made apparent by the manner in which the astronaut has manually controlled the attitude of the spacecraft during orbital maneuvers, retrofire, and reentry, and by the recovery of the spacecraft and astronauts after each flight by recovery forces which included aircraft carriers and destroyers. Basically, the equipment used in the spacecraft was derived from off the shelf equipment or through the direct application of existing technology, although some notable exceptions were made in order to improve reliability and flight safety. These exceptions include: An automatic blood pressure measuring system for use in flight. Instruments for sensing the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the oxygen atmosphere of the cabin and suit, respectively. Some may argue with the detailed way in which the second basic guideline of simplicity was carried out; however, this guideline was carried out to the extent possible within the volume, weight, and redundancy requirements imposed upon the overall system. The effect of the weight and volume constraints, of course, resulted in smaller and lighter equipment that could not always be packaged in an optimum way for simplicity. • 13. China s Politics And Economy In addition, China s politics and economy have great differences with western countries because of the special national conditions, that the political power (or government) may have a prominent or even overwhelming strength relative to the economy (or business), which may have a decisive influence on economic development. First, the government lead economy has caused excessive pursuit of economic development but neglect the quality of development (Zhou, Zhang Shen, 2015). Second is the government s control and allocation of resources and the dominant mode of development of the state owned economy have caused a series of problems like the loss of economic benefits to a certain extent (Dollar, 1990). So the excessive concentration of political and administrative power caused by the low degree legalization and democratization in Chinese economy may have resulted in some obstacles in the economic development to enterprises, and this kind of rent seeking which has political power to control economic resources and the right of examination and approval maybe one of the reasons caused China s corruption and damaged the normal order of the market economy. In western countries, companies could hire a lobby group to lobby government in order to gain some benefits and a lot of countries such as the United States have the Federal Regulation of lobbying act that make constraint on lobbying (Hansen Mitchell, 2000). But, one day, on her way back home from buying salt from the market, a goblin appeared and strolled up to Angelina. He had a smug walk and a smile that carried malicious intent. Using his charisma, he proposed a bargain. Suddenly, enough was insufficient. Goblins were not to be trusted, especially those that made deals . . . but, a world of infinite wonders for a morsel of salt seemed generous too generous. • 16. To What Extent Can Blanche Dubois Be Described as a Victim... This play is about people who display cruelty and harshness in their treatment to others, especially those who are weak and vulnerable. Blanche Dubois is the central victim of mistreatment even though she had tried to make Stanley the victim. She displays her self as fragile and moth like, dealing out her share of insensitivities that happened during her younger days. Also because of her moth like image, the other characters see her as an easy target to knock down and use her insecurities against her. Her figure and appearance also reveals her vulnerability and delicacy. Stanley is Stella s husband; he is described to be very masculine and aware of his sexual magnetism. Strongly, compactly built . He is mostly at ease with people however, if they lack loyalty and affection to him, he will bully them. Especially women, as he believes them just to be easy conflict. It is seen in scene 3 that Stanley has little respect for women. I said to hush up! This is addressed to his wife who is seen emotionless and impassive in this play. As for Blanche how is fussy and at edge, she would be very effected by the crude attitude that Stanley presents and so tries to hysterical take Stella away from her husband. Stanley does not forget of this act of interference and makes him all the more determined to be rid of Stella s charity case . The real reason for Stanley s bulling is that Blanche immediately received all Stella s attention. How about my supper huh? • 18. Addiction to Heroin Heroin and its subsequent misuse has been a contentious issue plaguing society for decades. With the advent of the internet, it is becoming more difficult to curtail many of the illegal activities individuals engage in regards to drug use. Heroin in particular is very pervasive in the United States as it is a drug that is highly addictive. In America, drugs are becoming a very serious issue as immigrants enter into the country illegally carrying the drug with them. Heroin, although mainly created in Afghanistan and China, is often brought to the United States illegally from Latin countries. By entering into the country these individuals provide drugs and other narcotics to disseminate among the masses. Even more troublesome, it seems that little is being done to help prevent the influence of drugs within American society (Eric, 2008). According to the 2008 National Survey on Drug Use, the number of current heroin users increased from 153,000 in 2007 to 213,000 in 2008. One issue that is especially interesting is substance abuse among many young individuals and how that affects HIV rates within the American population. Many individuals are not concerned with drug use among the young population. It is my contention however, that drug use among the young has a profound impact on the society in which we live in. To begin, Heroin is an opiate drug which is extracted from the Asian opium poppy plant. Heroin is usually seen as a white powdery substance. In rare instances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(The term Big Gods refer to omnipresent and omniscient moralizing agent (Shariff Norenzayan, 2007) and this is unique to the three big religions: Christianity, Judaism and Islam). Moreover, although they noted that the manipulations did merely a dip in religious beliefs of participants instead of an extreme change, it is unclear whether analytic thinking can decrease religious beliefs of highly religious people. Nevertheless, between subject design had no possibility to do that; therefore, a within subject replication of this effect is necessary to show its robustness. Q.1 The study addressed questions like what effects maternal foraging success would have on maternal body condition, fecundity, egg investment and whether an abundance in prey for the mother would have positive effects on offspring traits like shapes maternal body condition, fecundity and egg investment, and that maternal prey abundance has a positive, cross generational effect on a number of important offspring traits, for example, sibling cannibalism in black widow spiders. Q.2 The findings of this study include the knowledge that maternal foraging success is indeed responsible for better maternal body condition, egg sac mass, egg number, mass, size and density rate. Some exceptions were also observed where the mothers given the high nutrition treatment made low density eggs and some given low nutrition treatment made high density eggs, showing that these characters are also influenced by genetic traits of the individual. Unfortunately in many democratic states, the government does not completely uphold democratic ideologies such as this; resulting in democratic deficit. Candidate nomination is the party activity that gives the general public the greatest influence over the particular party. However, less than two percent of voters participate in their riding s nomination for a particular party s representative and only one third to a half of the party members are estimated to participate. The difficultly that opposes the general population is that an individual needs to sign up to be a member of the particular party and in many rural constituencies, travel from their residence to a chosen location of meeting to participate. The fact that the general electorate participation is so low benefits the party executive because it gives them more control over the elected representative. This strategy is far from democratic but with many citizens feeling less attached to a particular party, with less than 50 percent of Canadians even identify[ing] with a political party , the effort and commitment required does not appear to pay off. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electoral System The Oxford Dictionary (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2016) defines an election as a formal and organised choice by vote of a person for a political office or other position . This is the same in all democratic countries, however, no two countries have the exact same procedure for carrying out elections. There are many ways in which elections can differ from state to state, for example, does the entire population have the same choice of people to vote for or is the voting based on constituencies, or are people voting for individuals or a whole party. The variation between them lies within the electoral systems employed in each of these countries. Electoral systems are simply the rules of elections and how they are conducted. The electoral system affects the type and level of interaction between politicians and constituents (PR STV and localism in Irish politics, 2011). In Ireland, since gaining independence in 1922, representatives of Dáil Eireann have been elected by proportional representation by single transferable vote (Gallagher, 2016). The Ideas Of Einstein And Freud Mr. Schneiders World History Kyndall Roberts Feb. 12, 2015 Section 1: Question 3: The ideas of Einstein and Freud were revolutionary because of how they shaped faith of reasoning and science. Einstein shook the ideas and laws that Isaac Newton had formerly created about motion and gravity. In 1905, Albert Einstein came up with the theory of relativity, which stated that although the speed of light is constant, other things like space and time are not. He believed that speed and time can change when it is measured relatively to an object moving near the speed of light about 186,000 miles/hour. These ideas had implications not only for science, but for the world. There was uncertainty and relativity that replaced the sense of security that came with Isaac Newton s laws. Einstein and Isaac s point of views were very different. Sigmund Freud had ideas that were as revolutionary as Einstein s. Freud treated psychology patients. From his experiences, he constructed a theory about the human mind. He came up with the idea that a part of the human mind is irrational, but it is now called the unconscious. In the unconscious, many drives existed, such as pleasure seeking drives that the conscious mind was unaware of. Freud s ideas actually weakened faith in reasoning. The description of his statue s facial expression sneer of cold command suggests arrogance and shows that the slaves who built the statues purposely portrayed this look on his face to mock ozymandias. Also the writing which appears on the statue s pedestal: king of kings: Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair! shows how big his ego is.
