Gratitude Essay
Crafting an essay on the theme of gratitude presents its own set of challenges, as the subject
matter is both profound and deeply personal. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of material to
cover, but rather in the delicate balance required to convey genuine appreciation without
sounding clichГ©d or insincere.
One hurdle is navigating the fine line between expressing gratitude and avoiding platitudes. It's
easy to fall into the trap of using overused phrases that may dilute the sincerity of one's feelings.
Striking a chord that resonates with the reader, making them feel the authenticity of the gratitude
being conveyed, is a delicate art.
Moreover, the challenge extends to finding a unique angle or perspective on gratitude. Countless
essays have been penned on the topic, making it imperative to approach the subject with fresh
eyes and original insights. This requires not only creativity but also a thorough understanding of
what gratitude means on a personal level and how it can be universally relatable.
In addition, there's the challenge of maintaining a coherent structure. Gratitude is a broad
emotion, and without a well-organized essay, the narrative might risk becoming scattered or
disjointed. A well-thought-out outline becomes crucial to guide the reader through a journey that
unfolds seamlessly, capturing the essence of gratitude from start to finish.
The most formidable obstacle, perhaps, is the introspective nature of the task. Delving into one's
own experiences and emotions to articulate the significance of gratitude demands a level of self-
awareness that can be uncomfortable. It requires not only reflecting on positive aspects of life
but also acknowledging and overcoming challenges, using them as stepping stones to appreciate
the journey.
In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on gratitude necessitates finesse, creativity, and
introspection. It is a challenging endeavor that goes beyond mere expression, delving into the
realm of authenticity and emotional resonance. As one grapples with the complexities of
gratitude, the ultimate goal is to create a piece that not only resonates with the audience but also
leaves them with a profound sense of connection and understanding.

Impact Of The Space Race
RQ: How and to what extent did the Space Race have a impact on United States s
defense technologies?
On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The
launch of Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and
the innovation of technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a
major impact on the evolution of the United States s defense technologies through the
launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the United States battle for technological
superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in their satellite and satellite
defense technologies.
From a United States and Soviet Union perspective that conveys that the Space
Race had a minor impact on the improvisation of United States defense
technologies; the Space Race was in a way responsible for the United State s
production of new technology of missiles and defense against intercontinental
ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s the United States Air Force started a series of
advanced strategic missile projects under the Weapon System WS 199A called
Martin s Bold Orion air launched ballistic missile (ALBM). Similar to ICBMs the
purpose of the ALBM was to destroy satellites sent into orbit that posed a intellectual
and physical threat to the US. The ALBM was created due to the increasing pressure
that the Soviets were to launch a satellite before the United States, and since the
United States would not know of the capabilities of this

Book Review Of Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince
Book Review: The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli
The Prince was written about 500 years ago, however the ideas mentioned in it are
as relevant to the society today as they were 500 years back. In the book,
Machiavelli talks about the rise and fall of empires, and the actions that a leader can
take to guarantee the states existence in the future as well. Machiavelli focuses his
attention on how social orders really function. The Prince is extremely complicated to
comprehend, and concentrates on the most effective ways to gain power and hold it
for the future using examples, and offers guidance on what worked and what did not
work in propelling a political vocation, mainly using Italy s empire and it s rulers as
an illustration.
The book starts with defining the various sorts of territories and rulers; in doing as
such, it develops a layout for the entire book. The initial chapters thoroughly
portray how to keep up composite territories that is, states that are recently made or
taken over from another power, where the prince is unfamiliar with the people who
he is supposed to rule. It further builds on the book s principle concerns the politics
of power and control, war craft, and goodwill in an embodied frame.
Machiavelli says that the state is just made if the general population participate and
work to look after it. The state is likewise one of man s most prominent attempts, and
the state outweighs everything else. The state ought to be one s essential

As McWilliam(2014) said, global business is the buying and selling of goods and
services by people from different countries. Global business means the company
doing trade internationally that they wish to extend their sales to others countries and
gain more profit. Actually it is not that easy to form a global company, we should
follow and understand the rules and agreements that involved during the global
trading. Therefore, a company which wish to form a global business usually have to
follow the phase model of globalizationwhich are exporting, cooperative contracts,
strategic alliances and lastly, wholly owned affiliates. The purpose of this research
project is to examine the strengths and weaknesses of every single phase model of

It means a new and independent company that form by two existing companies

face and pay off their responsibilities together. Joint Venture brings advantages to the
small local business. The joint venture usually involve between a big company and
small local businesses. This is because the small local business can gain a lot of
advantages from the big company, such as the experience and opinion from the senior
to avoid. Small businesses have an advantage of obtaining from the larger company
which will share the financial burden through the implementation of the new venture.
For example, MMC Corporation joint venture with Gamuda Berhad in the project
of building the MRT 2 that worth up to approximately RM15bil. In this joint
venture of the two big companies are able to share the risk they face and pay off
their responsibilities together. Not only that, skills may be insufficient if only one
company takes the job but if two or more companies joint venture then they will be
gaining access to expertise without the need to hire more expertise in the field
required. However, the problems in ownership and leadership may occur to the joint
venture too. Every advantage comes with a disadvantage , in a business joint venture
like MMC Corporation and Gamuda Berhad, one company may set
Paradise Lost Changes
Paradise Lost by John Milton characterizes Eve prior to the Fall of Man, during the
Fall, and after, and the story takes place in the Garden of Eden, Heaven, and Hell.
This world renown epic poem takes us on Eve s journey and others during the
beginning of the world. After sin overtook Eve, she consequently changed, and her
relationship with Adam and God changed; however, mankind can relate to her today
despite her major flaws.
The character of Eve in Paradise Lost can be described as curious, wise, and beautiful
prior to the first sin of mankind. Eve was inferior to Adam because he was created in
God s image, but Eve was created in Adam s as stated in line 4.299, which says, He
for God only, she for God in him. The beauty that Eve possessed... Show more

When Eve ate the fruit, she gorged herself because it tasted good. Milton describes
this by saying, Greedily she engorged without restraint, and knew not eating death.
Satiate at length and heightened with wine. (9.791 4) Sin will always taste good,
but in the end it will only bring forth death and destruction. Sin appeals to our
worldly palette, so to speak, because Satan always targets weakness. He targeted
Eve s only flaw, vanity, and he continues to feed us lies that appeal to our flesh today.
Sin still produces the same result today that it did during the beginning of mankind.
Just as Eve experienced shame beyond measure because of her sin, the same hold
true today. The guilt and shame that sin creates far outweighs the pleasure that it may
bring for the time
The Rise Of The Peshmerga
Peshmerga means those who are prepared to confront or face death. This military
force began around the 1920 s and have experienced a lot of tension between political
groups. The Peshmerga is currently fighting ISIS which is the biggest terrorist
organization in the world. They are not only the leading protectors of the Kurdistan
Region, but also the entire world.
Initially, the Peshmerga was developed by freedom fighters that were members of
the KDP and PUK, who used guerrilla warfare tactics to regain control of and protect
Kurdistan. After the collapse of the Ottoman and Qajar empires, freedom fighters
created the Peshmerga to regain control over Kurdistan. When the Peshmerga first
started, guerrilla warfare was used to fight enemies and defend the Kurdistan Region.
The Peshmerga had become an effective and powerful guerrilla fighting force at the
time of the Iran and Iraq war in the 1980 s ( Who are the Peshmerga?, 2014). The
KDP and PUK were the governmental powers which influenced the Peshmerga and
its formation. The head of the Kurdish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The members of the Peshmerga battled to keep the region under the authority of
their leading governmental party. The KDP consisted of a conservative political
philosophy that follows tradition. While the PUK consisted of a socialist political
philosophy that is more inclined to the left. The philosophical differences between
the two groups in power of the region and Peshmerga caused a civil war to break
out in the 1990 s. This war caused Kurds to choose sides and hatred increased. The
Peshmerga was used to fight against one another in support of their leading power.
The civil war came to a halt when the leader of the Kurdish Democratic Party,
Massoud Barzani, signed an agreement for peace with Jalal Talabani, the head of the

The Impact Of The Minimum Wage
Anyone can drive through a drive thru at midnight. Anyone can go to the store
whenever they need to pick something up. But, not everyone stops to think about the
workers who slide the debit card or bag the groceries. Many times, these people are
making the minimum wage. Their lives and wages are effected by an economy which
never seems to stop changing. Due to the federal minimum wagebeing recently
increased, potential effects on employment can be explored on a national trend, in
individual states with higher minimum wages, and in the lives of teens.
In 1938, the United States sat in the middle of its biggest economic downfall
known as the Great Depression. The majority of the country struggled through
poverty with little chance of gaining employment. To try and help bring the country
back to its feet, the United States federal government set a payment level known as
the minimum wage. Over time, the wage has been used to insure all employees
receive some sort of fair wage which is ideally high enough to live off of. As a
result, the minimum wage has continually been adjusted to match inflation and other
factors of an ever changing economy. The most recent minimum wage increase
came on July 24, 2009, and it rose to $7.25 as can be found in the Fair Labor
Standards Act (United States Department of Labor). With an economy that continues
to change, it is no surprise national employment rates do as well. Due to the direct
correlation between the two, it is easy
Green Fishing Research Paper
The springlike weather has brought bass into shallower water in some foothill
lakes, perhaps getting ready for the pre spawn. At Lake Camanche, near Ione, a
recent lunker catch was made by James Vella, of Oakdale, who boated a 15.75 pound
largemouth bass which measured 28 inches, with a girth of 23.5 inches. The big fish
was caught on 6 pound test line and was released.
At New Melones, the lake level rose another four feet last week, and with the current
storms predicted this week, it could reach the first concrete launch ramp. Trout fishing
is still slow but a few are being caught by trollers with shad pattern spoons and shore
anglers are finding some near the HWY 49 bridge. Bass fishing is still going well for
those special anglers, according to John Leichty of Glory Hole Sports, who says
that jigging may work in water 25 35 feet deep and some are having success near
shore in shallower water. Constant moving to various areas will pay off. There are
no reports of catfish coming in lately, but they will move toward runoff areas with
the coming rain. Crappie anglers are finding some fish near wooded areas with live
minnows or crappie jigs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tragic Flaws In Julius Caesar
And Brutus is an honorable man (3.2.95). Brutus was loyal and kind to his dear
friend, Caesar. However once the conspiracy arose, situations began to change for
dear Brutus. His love for his country simply outgrew the love he felt for Caesar.
Brutus decided to join the conspiracy and their quest to take Caesar s life. After they
completed this bloodthirsty quest, tension rose in Rome. Mark Antonywanted
revenge on the conspirators for killing his dearest friend and so he set out to do
just that. Brutus and Cassius fled Rome to eventually return to Philippi where a
battle between armies would take place. At the town of Philippi, lives were lost
and tragic flaws took place. Brutus desire for dignity led to his poor decision
making and his tragic death within William Shakespeare s art The Tragedy of Julius
Caesar, which makes Brutus the character who suffered from a tragic flaw. Brutus
aspiration for dignity led to poor decision making. One time that showed his poor
decision making was at Caesar s funeral in front of the city of Rome. He introduces
why the conspirators killed Caesar and attempts to persuade them. Brutus states,
Brutus rose against Caesar/ Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more
(3.2.22 23). Brutus justification for the betrayal of Julius Caesarwas that his love for
Rome overpowered his love for his friend. However, his reasons for wanting Caesar s
death was pure. Brutus believed that the people of Rome fancied the loss of Caesar.

Why Is Patronage Important To The Military
The importance of Roman Patronage in Society, Politics and Military.
Traditionally, Roman Society was extremely ridged. But by the first century, the need
for capable men to run Rome s vast empire was slowly moving away from the old
social barriers. Roman Patronage began to cultivate through the client patron
relationship, the importance of political power through possessions and the
tactfulness of greed and corruption through the military society. Patronage, which is
the client patron relationship system was what created the most cultural and social
infrastructure of the Roman Empire. Patronage was not only enclosed to the serving
the military or political stand points of Rome s livelihood. Patronage helped
establish the legal system, social ranking and display of status. There were two
classes, the upper class and the lower class which were the main classes of the ranked
system during ancient Rome. The upper class was constructed of the wealthy people
who owned land, who became engulfed in politics as being important figures like
senators, tribunes, and consuls, etc. The upper class members are part of a wealthy

the president had a widely recognized reputation as an extremely aggressive, hard

the two companies was at stake and reciprocal considerations were in order. Smithe

representatives and also because he wanted to devote time to other problems. At that

Having said all that, the rest of this section is intended to help raise awareness of our
innate telekinetic abilities, with some simple exercises you can do for practice.
Obviously, you should educate yourself in important overlapping areas, such as
meditation, and keep a positive attitude no matter how long it takes.
Meditation
Meditating is easy. Anyone can do it. Theres many techniques and if you know one
that I am not covering here, feel free to edit this article and add it. In the first
technique, Ill cover the basics. Just sit and breathe.
Thats right. Breathe... inhale, exhale. You are sitting, you are thinking of
practically nothing except your inhaling exhaling. Now, concentrate. This is best
done somewhere you like. The objective of meditation is to imagine. Image what
you like to accomplish. You can increase your willpower through meditation.
Better yet, visualize yourself whatever you want to accomplish in life. Think about
it over and over again. What are you doing? What does success look like? Picture it
with as many details as possible. I am going to leave this article up to this point. If
you have some time, feel free to edit it. Another method is to relax starting with
your fingertips and toes, work your way up to you arms and legs etc. Then relax
your chest and stomach, then your head. You should be in a state of rest. I had best

Lake Forest College Essay
Lake Forest University, an integrated community, consisting of various races was
later renamed Lake Forest College. Founded in 1857, this liberal arts college was
established by Presbyterian ministers and leaders who were also involved in the
designs of most of the campus buildings standing today. Campus buildings such as
the Deerpath Hall, a residence hall, and the still in process Lillard Science Center
are what contribute to the representation of this private institution. The Deerpath
Hall was made in 1956 by architect Naess and Murphy and was later renovated in
1999 2000 by Solomon Cordwell (Lakeforest.edu). The Lillard center, however, who

It is after close examination of both the Lillard Center and the Deerpath Hall, that
the viewer can realize the presence of gravity defying elements present in both
structures. Even though these elements do not enhance each building s own
function, it does, however, act as an ornament to the overall design that attracts
viewers attention. To portray this idea, the Deerpath Hall front structure displays an
illusion of even flatness in the building s main front wall. This is created by the top,
front section of the building s wall being indented inwards and thus, creating a
hollow space. To then create a sense of flatness, a small portion of its roofhovers over
the indented part of the wall in such a way that the illusion is formed. Not only
does this added ornament conveyed a sense of awe in the viewer, but also
demonstrates the college s in this century attempt to portray a sense of the future
through the incorporation of modern elements present in architecture during this
time period. The used of modern architectural elements such as transparent glass
present in the front of the building as well as around it creates a sense of openness
to the viewer as well as helps portray the environment s ability to be open minded.
Moreover, instead of the Lillard Center having a gable roof such as the one in
Deerpath Hall, Lillard s rooftop is flat. The building s structure along with its roof are

The Most Common Concern Of Football
The football is in the air and the receiver is running a crisp post route towards the
free safety just along the hash marks and the goal line when suddenly he receives a
helmet to helmet hit that leaves him unconscious. This is something that occurs far
too often in the sport of football. Football has been around since 1869 and the
National Football League(NFL) was established in 1920. Over the last few decades
the NFL has grown to become a multi billion dollar organization whose annual
championship game is America s most watched event each year. With each year
the NFL grows, so does the concern for each player s safety. The most common
concern is the traumatic injury in football known as a concussion. A concussion is
defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as, a stunning, damaging, or shattering
effect from a hard blow; especially : a jarring injury of the brain resulting in
disturbance of cerebral function. (Webster) Even though the NFL has denied the
link between serious head trauma and football for many years, the NFL should do
more to protect their players from future head trauma because new research shows
the long term effects of concussions in football players and many former NFL
players have been diagnosed with serious brain diseases. It is believed that football
originated from Rugby in the 1800 s. People were tired of playing the same sport
and one day decided to pick up the ball and run. Later, people started tackling the
person with the ball and the game

The Effects Of Popular Energy Drinks On Young Adults
And...
Popular energy drinks, such as Rockstar, 5 Hour Energy, and Monster are consumed
by individuals, as a way to remain cognizant, as well as alert, throughout their day.
Many of the people consuming these drinks are young adults and teenagers. These
people are oftentimes overwhelmed and busy. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention website, states, Energy drinks are beveragesthat typically contain caffeine,
other plant based stimulants, simple sugars, and other additives. They are very
popular among young people and are regularly consumed by 31% of 12 to 17 year
olds and 34% of 18 to 24 year olds (CDC, 2015, p. 1). These statistics show the ages
of people consuming these products and prove that it is mostly young people.
Individuals might feel the need to consume an energy drinkbefore a sports match,
work, school, homework, or any task which requires them to be mentally, as well as
physically alert. There are many different types of energy drinks people can consume
and these beverages have similar ingredients. An advantage to these drinks, would be
that an individual accomplishes their goal for the day, because they were given the
energy to do so. There are also certain health benefits that might occur, due to these
drinks. For example, they have ingredients that might protect against some illnesses.
However, people who consume these drinks might not know that they could be
risking their overall health. The Food and Drug Administration has all three of these
Oceans And Plastic Pollution
Oceans are very important factors in our environment. Our Earth is 71% water
and 50% 80% of all life on Earth lives in that 71% water. The ocean also contains
99% of the living space on the planet. ( The Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch ). So as
you can see, the water we have on Earth has a big purpose. Oceans are some
families vacations and are admired for their beauty. They give us food,
transportation, and even oxygen, but what do we do for the ocean? We pollute it.
Our ocean contains 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris. Of that mass, 260,000 tons
float on the service, while four billion plastic microfibers per square kilometer litter
the deep sea. (Laura Parker). 80% Of marine debriscomes from trash and debris in
urban runoff like land based sources. Key components of land based sources
include litter, trash and debris from construction, ports and marinas, commercial and
industrial facilities, and trash blown out of garbage containers, trucks, and landfills.
Ocean based sources such as overboard items from ships and fishing gear, are the
other 20%. Food containers and packaging are the largest component of the solid
waste stream ( The Problem of Marine Plastic Pollution ). These items, together with
plastic bags, also represent the largest component of marine debris. Packaging and
single use disposable products are not only present in marine debris, but they
represent an unsustainable use of precious resources like oil, trees, energy sources,
and water.
The quantity of marine debris is increasing in oceans worldwide. Researchers at the
Algalita Marine Research Foundation documented an increase in plastic debris in
the Central Pacific Gyre five fold between 1997 and 2007, where the baseline in
1997 showed plastic pieces outnumbered plankton on the ocean surface.( Clean Water
Action ). Each year the pollution increases, making marine life decrease. The
pollution also makes their living conditions worse, to the point where they have to
leave their homes and live somewhere cleaner. Tens of thousands of individual
animals from hundreds of marine species, including every kind of sea turtle and
around half of marine mammals, have encountered plastic, glass, and other garbage
in the ocean, according to a

or lesser known bands they hold close to their heart. For me, one of those bands is
VEX. I don t want to give any preconceived notions by comparing them to another
band, but what I will tell you is that VEX is just as much an expression of art as they
are an expression of music. Everything from their music videos to the album artwork
and from their live performances to the very last sound heard on the record, has a
rhyme and a reason.
So, let me introduce you to VEX, your new favorite band! On vocals and also the

Analysis Of The Book Leningrad
Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an
American singer and songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold
War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the first American to tour any communist
country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising of the Iron Curtain.
Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian life
first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught
about the Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel
became friends with a Man named Viktor who attended all of the performances
during this tour. Billy Joel s management learned about Viktor and set up a way for
the pair to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Billy Joel also makes it clear that we can not judge a group of people strictly on
their leader s actions because they do not necessarily represent the popular opinion
that their nation s people have. The song Leningrad is of interest to me because I
am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel. Music has always
played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this
assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and
affect the opinions and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media
outlet. The average person does not typically take an analytical approach to a song
to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting that a listener can still be
persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or not.
The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many
years and frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale.
Leningrad does the exact opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also
by using a war that most people had grown up through and showing how we can help
resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the song Leningrad from a
theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his words and
experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the
American people have towards the Russian s system of
Venezuela Corruption And Corruption
Although Venezuela is in a deplorable state of poverty and ruin due to the corruption
and fiscal irresponsibility of its government, a regime change could return Venezuela
to its former glory by opening its borders to foreign investing and capitalizing on its
environmental landscapes to revive the Venezuelan tourism industry.
The current administration has systematically driven the country into poverty and
ruin by consistently failing to meet the needs of its citizens and by continuing to
implement policies that erode the economy. For instance, the Venezuelan
administration s mismanagement of funds by corrupt government officials resulted in
a failure to repay debts to China, which in turn caused Venezuelas largest creditor to
cease any further business deals with the same. Moreover, government officials
including Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, have grown their net worth while
the country s inflation rose a staggering 700% in 2016 as the vast majority
(approximately 85%) of the population lived in poverty. The corruption and poor
leadership throughout the government is prominent to the point that the US
Department of the Treasury issued sanctions against President Maduro after holding
illegitimate elections to retain power. Additionally, anytime the population rises in
protest, even if peaceful, Maduro s government has reacted by deploying military
forces, often resulting in blatant violations and abuse of human rights that has led to
countless unnecessary civilian deaths. The Venezuelan government s fiscal
irresponsibility, bad economic policy, and limitless corruption has created a financial
void of such magnitude that, not even the country with the largest oil reserves in the
world can procure critical medications, food, or basic necessities for 9/10 of the
population. Additionally, hospitals are powerless to administer care; they are
underfunded to the point where patients themselves must bring their basic necessities
such as toilet paper and medications prior to being admitted into medical facilities.
Even simple medications such as antibiotics, cough medicine or eye drops have to be
shipped and sometimes smuggled into the country because corrupt customs officials
illegally confiscate the
Meursault And Raskolnikov
How can the way a character acts or treats other people push the plot of a book
forward? Fyodor Dostoevsky s novel Crime and Punishment and Albert Camus
novella The Stranger both feature main characters guilty of committing murder;
however, the the two main characters, Meursault and Raskolnikov, act very
differently and so their fates end up very different. The main character of the The
Stranger is a man simply called Monsieur Mersault. Camus presents Meursault as an
honest person. This doesn t necessarily work in his favor, as he tells people
repeatedly that things don t matter. He is very emotionally detached from everyone
and everything. He does not even cry when his own motherdies, and he does not love
the woman who is supposed to be his love interest. Meursault... Show more content

Meursault, true to his characterization, doesn t really react. He feels no guilt because
he does not feel like anything matters. The murder he committed was just another
thing that happened. He is caught and put on trial for his crimes. The prosecutor uses
his indifference toward the death of his mother and everything else to get him
convicted. Even after his conviction, he doesn t show any emotion. Raskolnikov,
however, immediately becomes paranoid about what he has done and thinks that
everyone knows. He falls ill after his crime and the people around him start to
believe he has gone insane. This leads people to suspect him of committing the
crime. Perhaps had he not acted the way he did, no one would suspect of the crime.
Despite actually having feelings after his crime, Raskolnikov also feels no guilt for
killing the old woman because of his philosophy about extraordinary men. He simply
dislikes the fact that he wasn t successful and therefore not an extraordinary man.
Raskolnikov ends up confessing to the crime and because of his supposed insanity
after the murder it is decided that he is not some simple

Waterfall model is a software engineering process that has sequence of steps which
are required for a product to be built or for the completion of a project successfully.
This model starts with the requirements analysis phase and end with maintenance
having several stages like design, implementation and verification. This model gives
us a planned model for developing a product and deploying it in the market. This is
also known as a sequential model.
Some of the shortcomings of waterfall model are
i.It cannot be used for developing large size products ii. Once there is any issued
that has raised during the process, the complete process may get complex iii. No
changes can be made in between the process. For example if any requirement is
missed and due to this if the testing of the product fails then the complete process has
to be repeated which is very complicated and time consuming iv. All the requirements
have to be known in prior before designing a system and implementing it
v.One should have complete knowledge about the product being developed as it is
not possible to make changes in between the process. vi. This model can be used in
case of small projects so that the scope and timeline is not missed.

fair value hierarchy date: december 15, 2012
Introduction
Family Finance Co. (FFC), a publicly traded commercial bank, invests in a variety of
securities in order to enhance returns greater than interest paid on bank deposits and
other liabilities. The primary investments of FFC are collateralized debt obligation,
mortgage backed securities, auction rate securities, equity securities in nonpublic
companies, interest rate swaps, and a fuel swap for gasoline. FFC measures the
derivative at fair value, presenting the portion of the fair value change by using the
fair value hierarchy. This memo will present the appropriate classification in the fair

Also, as of the measurement date, there is lack of recent and relevant transactions.
Thus, the fair value measurement of this CDO should be classified as Level 3. By
analyzing the market changes, FFC determined that the CDO s market was not active
and there has been a significant decrease in the volume and level of activity. FFC
used an income approach valuation technique which is present value technique to
make measurement. Because this approach can maximize the use of relevant
observable inputs and minimizes the use of unobservable inputs to reflect the fair
value more representatively.
Instrument 2 Mortgage Backed Security The fair value measurement of the

following: a. Quoted prices for similar assets or liabilities in active markets . These
inputs included quoted prices in active markets for similar MBSs with insignificant
adjustments for differences between the MBS held by FFC and similar securities.
In Q4 of 2012, the prices for transactions didn t reduce the relevant to the fair value

Hawaii Marine Life
Hawaii is surrounded by crystal clear and refreshing water. There are many types of
marine life that are swimming around in the beautiful waters of Hawaii, such as
green sea turtles, humpback whales, and manta rays. Marine related tourism is a
mainstay of Hawaii s economy and is consistently cited as having the best diving
destinations and top beaches in the world. Hawaiis marine realm is outstandingly rich
and highly unique. Twenty five percent of coral reeffish alone do not exist anywhere
else on earth. When corals, algae, reef fish and other species are included, up to 62%
of Hawaii s marine species are found solely in Hawaii.

Humpback whales can grow to be up to 60 feet in length, and they can weigh as
much as 40 tons. Most of the time for humpback whales, the female is longer and
heavier that the males (Badertscher). Humpback whales roam all over the world,
they will be found in different places depending on what time of the year.
Humpbacks typically travel alone or in small groups, called pods, consisting of
two or three whales. When whales are together, they communicate with each other
and travel together, and moms and their young even touch fins as a possible sign
of endearment. The whales back are largely flat with a small dorsal fin located
down the far side of its back, however when they are swimming the humpback may
arch its back and flukes causing its back to look like a large hump. Sometimes they
even help each other hunt. This large Hawaiian marine mammal is part of the
baleen whale family and is known to eat a few different small preys such as squid,
red fish, tuna, pollock, haddock, mackerel, capelin, salmon and many other types of
small fish. The humpback whales large diet makes these whales one of the most
diverse eaters within the baleen whale family. While the adult humpback whale is
known for its unique diet the baby humpback whales start their journey by consuming
milk, which they suck from their mother s nipples until they reach a point where they
can hunt for food and survive on their own. Humpback

The Evolution Of American Diabetes Association
The Evolution of American Diabetes Association
Introduction
When an individual is asked whether or not they would rather be HIV positive or
have diabetes, the obvious response is that they would prefer to be diagnosed with
diabetes. Even though, diabetes is a complicated endocrine disease that most often
results in patients having multi organ dysfunction, such as: blindness, lower
extremity amputation, kidney dysfunction and pancreas malfunction. Most people
associate diabetes with bad food, bad genetics and a lack of exercise, which are
definite risk factors (Polonsky, 2014). According to the American Diabetes
Association (ADA), diabetes cost $174 billion in health care cost in 2007. This
health disparity is what leads to formation of the ... Show more content on

In regards to proper nutrition, a diet that has a low glycemic index has been found to
improve blood sugar control. Unfortunately, diet and exercise aren t enough to
achieve glycemic control for some individuals. At this time, medication is usually
introduced to the treatment regimen. Oral medications such as Metformin,
sulfonylureas, nonsulonylurea secretagogues, alpha glucosidase inhibitors and
thiazolidinediones are available. However, Metformin is usually the first line of
treatment. In some patients, insulin can be added to their medication regimen.
Consequently, in cases where the individual is morbidly obese and lifestyle
modifications with medication therapy prove to be ineffective in maintaining
glycemic control, weight loss surgery can be considered (Polonsky, 2014).

History of diabetes and the formation of ADA
Diabetes Mellitus is not a new disease. It was first recognized in ancient Egypt
around 1500 B.C.E. It was considered a rare condition in comparison to present
times. In 1812, diabetes was acknowledged as a clinical disorder. However, its
prevalence at the time was not well documented. During those time periods, diabetes
was considered fatal (Polonsky, 2014). The most significant progress came with the
discovery of insulin. In 1921, Frederick G. Banting, MD and then student assistant,
Charles H. Best, made the discovery of insulin. This discovery led Dr. Banting to

These investigations led to production of 8.4 tons of gold annually [1]. These
successes led several other gold mining companies to follow with bioleaching
processes. Today bioleaching of gold containing ore has become increasingly
important as bioleaching technology progresses and gold reserves become
increasingly depleted. 2.2 TYPES OF BIOLEACHING Types of bioleaching of
gold ore can be divided into three categories. Each method offers various
advantages. Selection of the bioleaching type for a specific application depends on
several factors including: the ore composition, gold content, surrounding
environment and amount of available reserves. 2.2.1 BIOREACTORS Bioreactors
are employed when the value of the gold recovery is sufficient to justify the costs
of installing and operating the necessary equipment. Bioreactors are able to
process less gold ore at one time, but create a much faster oxidation process. This
process usually utilizes higher grade ores compared to heap leaching. This type of
bioleaching is characterized by a reactor tank in which relatively finely ground ore
and nutrients are added, as well as bacteria containing solution to create a slurry
(Figure 1). This mixture is then mechanically or air agitated. [pic] Figure 1:

The Evolutionary Change Under Strong Selective Pressures
Domestication is a phenomenon that has promoted significant evolutionary change
under strong selective pressures (Driscoll et al. 2009). As a result of this
phenomenon, various domesticated strains of flora and fauna have significantly
contributed to the development of human civilization (Morey 1994; Driscoll 2009).
Although it was a substantial component to our progress, it was not until the research
of Dmitry K. Belyaev that we began to unravel the early stages of domestication.
Assuming that these initial stages involved selectionon behavior, Belyaev conducted
an experimental study that placed strong selective pressures on tamability. Using the
fox, Vulpes vulpes, as a model, this artificial selection developed an experimental
population that expressed behavioral, morphological, and physiological
characteristics of domesticated species (Belyaev 1969).
Under stressful conditions, animals have the tendency to engage in avoidance
responses to promote their chances of survival (Smith Vale 2006; Ranabir Reetu
2011). These avoidance responses, including fearful and/or aggressive behavior, also
tend to be the primary reactions to human encounters. Belyaev suggested that as a
consequence, social interactions in the early stages of domestication likely depended
on animals with an inhibited response to stress. Ergo, he reasoned that selectively
breeding animals expressing this behavioral response, or tamability, would likely
mirror these early stages (Belyaev 1969).

attitudes that support violence against women. There is also an association between
the type of pornography consumed (violent or non violent) and their attitudes that
support violenceagainst women. Pornographycontributes to the rapeculture seen in
today s society. Men who watch more pornography and pornography that depicts non

Renaissance Art Gallery
Movements and Art Gallery
a.Renaissance
Renaissance movement is a period which took place between 14th and 17th century.
It began in Italy and later spread to the rest of European countries. It was a cultural
movement which tried to invent what was intellectually referred to as humanism.
This period is characterized by a more natural reality in painting as well as
educational reform. (Brotton, 2006).
Latin and vernacular literatures became common in this period with emergence of
learning techniques based on classical sources. It is this period that shaped the
political and social structures in Italy.
The renaissance art work symbolized a rebirth in the cultural practices both in the
middle ages and in modern times. A number of works of art took place at this period

Romanticism
Romanticism is a movement which originate from Europe at a period towards the
end of the 18th century. The movement was at its peak at the era in between 1800
1850. It involve work of art, literary and intellectual work as well as musical part of
it and focus more on emotion and individualism. Glorification also characterized the
period. This period emerged as a reaction towards industrial revolution, the
enlightenment age as well as scientific rationalization of nature. (Gerald, 1987).
An example of a visual art performed during this romantic era is The Chancel and
crossing of the Tintern Abbey. This piece of painting occurred in 1794 and was
done by Mallord William Turner after he made two visits to Tintern Abbey a
monastery founded in 1131 but neglected in 1536. He was overwhelmed by the site
and painted a piece showing the smallness of man alongside the wilderness of
nature. The second example is Fishermen at Sea, work done by Turner still in 1794
where he sketched the sky, clouds and nature in general to show the wonderful

John Locke On Property Essay
In the Second Treatise of Government by John Locke, he writes about the right to
private property. In the chapter which is titled Of Property he tells how the right to
private property originated, the role it plays in the state of nature, the limitations that
are set on the rights of private property, the role the invention of money played in
property rights and the role property rights play after the establishment of
government.. In this chapter Locke makes significant points about privateproperty. In
this paper I will summarize his analysis of the right to private property, and I will
give my opinion on some of the points Locke makes in his book. According to
Locke, the right to private property originated when God gave the world to... Show

Locke believes that there are limitations on that property. Locke believes that God
has given us all things richly, and that man may use those things as long as he takes
what he needs. Men can have property as long as they obtained it rightfully, and as
long as they use discretion. If those limitations were overlooked when the person was
getting the property the property was not obtained rightfully.
In the chapter the rights of property, Locke tells the role that the invention of money
plays in property rights. Money was invented because people were abusing their
property rights. With the creation of money things were given value, and this
invention prevented people from taking more than they could afford. Money was an
invention that men could keep without spoiling. Men could exchange money for
truly useful, but perishable supports of life.
This invention plays a big role in the property rights. Now that there is money people
have to use that money to get what they need instead of taking whatever they want as
was the case before the invention of money. According to Locke, individual property
rights change after government was established. He believes that in governments, the
laws regulate the right of property, and the possession of land is determined by
positive constitutions.
Before the establishment of government Americans had the rights to property as long
as they used it before it spoiled, and as long as
Consequences Of A Christmas Carol
Christmas is the time of year where everyone seems to be happy no matter what is
going on currently in the world around them. But not for Ebenezer Scrooge.
Everyone makes mistakes, but some that Scrooge had made, made a big impact on
his life. Because of his lack to spread kindness and charity, Scrooge s consequences
were three lovely visits from the Spirit of ChristmasPast, Present and Yet to Come
that made Scrooge reflect on his previous decisions so he can have an even greater
future. When Scrooge s partner, Marley, passes away, he lives an even more
greedy and selfish life, finding another reason to strongly hate Christmas. Thus
one part of why his poor action will provide a future consequence. Secondly, since
Scrooge had been so selfish to everyone, including the whole town of London, it is
pretty certain that all of London dislikes Scrooge. Although the Spirit of Christmas
Yet to Come shows Scrooge that if he does indeed stay selfish, he most certainly
will not be missed when he passes away. Lastly, his mistake in life was from his
past when he decides to worry and obsess over making money and being successful
rather than making sure he and his fiance s future was more secure rather than secure
finances. A Christmas Caroldisplays actions and consequences depend on one s own
actions and decisions whether good or bad. First, Scrooge s Co Worker, Jacob Marley

Greek art took many ideas from Egypt and Mesopotamia however as the years
passed they started to develop and create their own unique style. This style was

they are seeing a moment standing still in time. You can see this when you

These pieces are roughly dated 80 years apart however the difference between the
two forms are so remarkable. This paper will be discussing and addressing the
evolution of a more naturalistic art form, from the statue of Kroisos compared to
the statue of Doryphorus during the Greek art period. At a first glance of the
statues you may not see the dramatic differences between the two however they
were both approached in different ways to be created. They have different
meanings yet both were created to be more naturalistic than what came before it.
In Anavysos, Greece a statue of a Kouros was discovered dedicated to Kroisos.
Kouros statues were male figures also known as youths that were erected on graves
as a gift for the gods and as a marker for these graves. None of the statues were
identical however you could see that the all had the same base image to be formed
from. This particular one was in honor of Kroisos who died a very noble death in
battle in the front lines so his family erected this statue. This piece is dated circa
530BCE and is 6 4 high carved from marble. This
Growing Up In The House On Mango Street By Sandra
Cisneros
In the novel, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, the theme of growing
up is prevalent throughout the book. Throughout the novel, a young mexican girl
named Esperanza goes through experiences as she matures that involve her friends,
society, dangers that expose her to the outside world and help her to realize what the
real worldis like.
The first time Esperanza makes an appearance in the book, she is younger and easily
manipulated, especially by her friends. Esperanza meets a girl named Cathy, a
snobby girl that lived on Mango Street. When Cathy tells Esperanza Okay, I ll be
your friend. But only until next Tuesday. That s when we move away. Then as if
she forgot I had just moved in, she says the neighborhood is getting bad (13) This
was a racist statement towards Esperanza and her family, something she doesn t quite
understand yet because Esperanza thinks Cathy forgot they moved in, yet she was
actually being racist. This is the first time Esperanza is exposed to racism in the
book, therefore exposing her to the outside world. Later in the book, Esperanza
meets Sally, a beautiful girl with shiny black hair, that all she seemingly just wants
is to love, and Esperanza wants to be just like her. I like your black coat and the
shoes you wear, where did you get them? I want to buy shoes just like yours. (82)
Sally and Esperanza become friends, but later in the story, in the chapter Red
Clowns, Esperanza is put in a dangerous situation where Sally walks off
Ella Cinders By Bill Conselman And Charlie Plumb
Every comic has a unique style that makes the comic stand out to readers. A comic s
style is made up by different pieces that come together and give the comic the
uniqueness that readers fall in love with. Comic writers have to decide what type of
framing style, transitions, emanata, layout and cartooning style they want to have in
their comic to fit the story. Ella Cinders by Bill Conselman and Charlie Plumb has a
very intriguing narrativeand cartooning style that fits well with the comic s story.
Conselman and Plumb use simplistic drawings and storylines which allows the comic
to be read in a short time.Throughout this paper I am going to explore the narrative
and cartooning styles in Ella Cinders to understand why the styles were chosen...

Transitions show time passing or different actions taking place. Ella Cinders uses a
little action to action transition and mainly scene to scene transition. Action to action
in Ella Cinders shows turning points in the comic. In panels 1 and 2 on tier 4 in
comic 2, the detective turns around the girl, who looks like Ella Cinders, only to find
out the girl is not Ella Cinders. The transition takes place in the same scene but the
characters are doing different actions which is why the scene is action to action.
Scene to scene transition is mainly used in comics to show the readers the diegesis
and explain the story in a clearer way. In comic one, scene to scene transition is
used to show how many animals are in the forest. If the scene did not change in the
first comic the readers would not be able to see all of the animals Ella Cinders
comes across. Without the animals in comic one the story line would be bland and
boring to readers. Ella Cinders is a comic that gets to the point and uses illustrations
to help tell the story. The Story is told equally by illustrations and by simple yet
ironic dialogue. Transitions with a speech is not needed in this comic because the
dialogue is not the most important form of telling the story. Also characters talk in
short dialogue instead of long speeches.. Transitions are meant to interest the reader
and tell the story in a clear way. However, since Ella Cinders is a simple comic that
needs little dialogue to tell the story transition with a speech in not used in this
The Opera Carmen and Gender Roles
Carmen
Carmen is a depictive work that represents the social and gender issues that were
present in nineteenth century France and Spain. It introduces readers to numerous
aspects of life including treatment of women, prejudices towards individuals and
groups, social structures, and accepted social behavior. Carmen, as both a novel and
opera, is a literary work that was written not only to entertain but also to reflect
nineteenth century society. Carmen, as a literary work, has experienced many
changes throughout its existence. The French author Prosper Merimme originally
wrote Carmen. Merimme was known mostly for his long stories and ability to write
in an objective and psychological style, a trait rarely found during the age of ... Show

The Opera stretched the accepted boundaries of established behavior in the opera
house and even went as far as to show a death on stage, an unacceptable visual
display that was always implied but never enacted. For the musical interpretation
the rich narrative was removed and a dramatic change was made in the form of an
additional new female character, Micaela. Micaela is a perfect foil to Carmen. As
her counterpart, she is a passive character who represents typically accepted
feminine characteristics of the time, such as fear and obedience. To facilitate
musical form Carmen the novel was changed to incorporate a new story line.
Carmen, the opera, incorporates Don Jose as the main character. Here he is
represented as a soldier, a well respected position in society, as opposed to a barbaric
savage. As he is outside his post, Micaela, who has willingly followed the request of
Jose s mother to meet him and marry him, confronts Jose. Jose greets Micaela with
great joy and sees her as an ideal mate. Carmen soon appears on the stage and is
followed by fellow workers and male admirers. The working girls soon excite the
men, who all focus attention mostly on Carmen. She, however focuses her affections
on the one uninterested gentleman, Don Jose. The factory girls make an exit, only to
return momentarily once Carmen starts a fight with a fellow worker and slashes her
across her cheek. Carmen is then taken into custody and is held by Jose while his
Winterbourne View and Baby P Essay
Winterbourne View and Baby P In reports for both Winterbourne View and Baby P,
there are serious failures from all care providers in ensuring safe and adequate care
and safeguarding of the individuals involved. The serious failures and issues range
from a lack of communication and reporting, to physical and mental abuse (in the
case of Winterbourne View), and a lack of training and acceptance of responsibility
in both cases. Winterbourne View: Winterbourne View, a private residential home
caring for those with learning difficulties, challenging behaviour and complex needs,

His fall into obscurity resulted in part because he remained in the Delft area for
his entire life and was known only to a few connoisseurs and partly since he
painted so few canvases and therefore had few clients. Also, his painting style was
not in fashion during the century after his death and unscrupulous dealers, in some
instances, over painted his signature with that of more prominent artists such as
Rembrandt, Metsu and van Hook. It would be almost 200 years, in 1860, before

that Jordan s attempt should not have been done. They say he is not physically or
emotionally capable of climbing the mountain. Although, nevertheless, there are
always the few that refuse to believe the truth. They claim that he is strong enough
to make the climb it because he s been training a long time. Most critics argue that
these are alternative facts. In the latest article of Frost Bites, Hue Smooka Weedman,

The Negative Effects Of The Information Media And The

NEWS MEDIA EFFECTS

Ricky Conard

News Media Effects
American culture has changed so much in the past century. Looking back to the
1900s there wasn t technology like we have today. Today with all the technology and
the capabilities of getting breaking news faster allows us to input that information in
our minds and it eventually pulls people into the conflict. There are pros and cons
about whether we should get news faster or is the media adding fuel to the fire with
stories. When you look at the word responsibilities you often tend to think that it
holds someone accountable whether its you, the media or a different country. When
you look at social responsibilities from the media you end up with a 50/50 chance of
that information being true.
My next question is does the information media have social responsibility? Some may
say no they don t have social responsibility. As for many of us we tend to believe
they do have social responsibility. They are responsible for what they are
publishing. Let s look at an example of this. Let s say I was to go downtown and
make up a story. I then make a big scene to gather as many people as I can. Then as
the people are listening and watching I precede to tell them the local county
officials are spending the tax payer s money on alcohol and private parties for
themselves. At this point I honestly don t know if they do but I heard it from a
friend of mine. So, by hearing that I assume its true since that person is my friend.
Well in this case its not true but I end up getting arrested for defaming the officials.
Now look at the media. They can publish an article making claims that the
presidential campaign is doing illegal activity. Do they get arrested for making false
claims? The answer is no. Why is that? That s not very fair if you think about it.
If the media is going to publish millions of stories just because they have journalists
reporting back to them then that holds them accountable for the story. They are
taking the word from a person which they don t know if that journalist is tweaking
the story to make it seem bigger then what it was. If the media decides to base their
decisions upon their scouters or what they hear then
American Romanticism Research Paper
American Romanticism was the first literary movement in the U.S. between 1820 and
1860. This rapid growth of intuition, imagination, and individualism influenced many
now famous authors to have the literature we know today. Romanticism is typically
defined as a literary and philosophical theory that tends to see the individual at the
center of all life, and it places the individual, therefore, at the center of art, making
literature valuable as an expression of unique feelings and particular attitudes and
valuing its fidelity in portraying experiences, however fragmentary and incomplete,
more than its adherence to completeness, unity, or the demands of the genre.
Although romanticismtends at times to regard nature as alien, it more often sees in
nature a revelation of Truth . . . and a more suitable subject for art than those aspects
of the world sullied by artifice. Romanticism seeks to find the Absolute, the Ideal, by
transcending the actual (A Handbook to Literature). Romanticism is a movement
wherein artists reacted to the constraints of Realism and moved toward the individual
as a creative being. The language of this period is less formalized than previous
periods, nature is a reflection of man, and simplicity is prized over the conventions of
the past. A movement within this movement is Transcendentalism which emphasized
the importance of nature and the dignity of manual labor. Romanticism was a literary

Why I Hate Being Complacent Essay
I hate being complacent. I try to fight complacency in all aspects of my life from
academics to my sport of ultimate. Academically, complacency is the difference
between putting in the time and effort to study for a test and shrugging it off with
a simple it ll be fine. Playing ultimate complacency looks like not doing another set
of dead lifts or accepting a poor decision as acceptable just because it happened to
result in a goal because it ll work itself out. One of my main goals for this school
year is to rid my life of these complacencies. And, honoring this commitment, I have
been doing my work more thoroughly and not just at the last minute and have been
pushing myself to become faster and smarter as an ultimate player. But even with
this resolution to be better I am still complacent in those aspects of my life and will
continue to be imperfect as long as I continue to be human. But, as I have learned
throughout my time at Carleton, more specifically this term (and even more
specifically the second half of this term) I am complacent in the way I view justice in
this country. There are powerful forces that shape our criminal justicesystem that I
have always vaguely known existed and have always vaguely understood that they
are inherently and systematically racist. And even hearing the facts and numbers, my
favorite things, on how racist our country is I chose to be indifferent. I knew that one

The Importance Of Kindness
Kindness is the act of doing something nice towards others by showing concern and
generosity. Everyday we experience an act of kindness from our friends, family, or
strangers and without someone acting kind to us then they start to act hostile to us. I
was taught by my parents to always show kindness to everyone around me no matter
what kind of person they are; therefore, I started to act kind everyday by showing
kindnessto my friends and family. While I acted kind to others I was able to receive
kindness from strangers on the street, yet there has been times where I seen someone
actinghostile to me.
When I was young my parents had taught me to always be kind to others no matter
what and that quote stuck around with me. I have always been a bit shy so when I
was able to make friends and becoming close to them I started to do kind things for
them. There had been times where one of my friends would be stressing over a test
and not believing in theirself that I have to send some good luck texts or give them a
speech on why they need to be confident and positive. Two years ago in sophomore
year I came across some new that my friends favorite artist was coming over and I
immediately texted them about the news because this was once in a lifetime that
my friends would be able to see their artist. I research everything so I was able to
help my friends buy their tickets and just seeing their excited face I knew I was doing
the right thing.
While I was able to show kindness to my

Dark Energy Vs Dark Matter
Dark matter and dark energy are some of the most mysterious phenomena in the
universe, sparking interest in many astronomers and physicists today. Although we
haven t yet found any way to directly observe either dark matter or dark energy,
scientists have been able to see it s effects and confirm the existence of these abstract
forces.
First of all, dark energy and dark matter are not as similar as you may think. They
both are extremely difficult if not impossible to detect and very little is known about
either but the similarities end there. Dark matter is the word we use to explain the
large amounts of matter that s gravity keeps galaxies from ripping themselves apart.
Dark energy, unlike dark matter is the force that counteracts gravity ... Show more

Essentially, it is the undetectable matter that influences the gravity of galaxies and the
way we perceive light from distant galaxies. This gravitational effect is the only way
we know that dark matter is there. This is because without a considerable amount of
matter in addition to the regular matter in the universe, large galaxies would not be
able to the forces of gravity and makes up more of the universe than dark matter and
regular matter combined (about 68% of the universe)
One theory on this is the possibility that the expansion of the universe is just a
property of empty space . This theory has to do with the fact that empty space is not
empty and may have its own form of energy that makes galaxies continually spread
out. A similar theory suggests that the universe s expansion is due to the virtual
particles popping in and out of existence in an incredibly short amount of time. This
theory suggests that these particles give off a small amount of energy that could
expand the universe. Another theory claims that dark energy is an energetic fluid
that fills empty space and expands all of space.
In conclusion, Dark matter and dark energy cannot be observed but affect our
universe in strange ways, and even though we know there effects are still quite a
mystery scientists

Gratitude Essay

  • 1. Gratitude Essay Crafting an essay on the theme of gratitude presents its own set of challenges, as the subject matter is both profound and deeply personal. The difficulty lies not in the scarcity of material to cover, but rather in the delicate balance required to convey genuine appreciation without sounding clichГ©d or insincere. One hurdle is navigating the fine line between expressing gratitude and avoiding platitudes. It's easy to fall into the trap of using overused phrases that may dilute the sincerity of one's feelings. Striking a chord that resonates with the reader, making them feel the authenticity of the gratitude being conveyed, is a delicate art. Moreover, the challenge extends to finding a unique angle or perspective on gratitude. Countless essays have been penned on the topic, making it imperative to approach the subject with fresh eyes and original insights. This requires not only creativity but also a thorough understanding of what gratitude means on a personal level and how it can be universally relatable. In addition, there's the challenge of maintaining a coherent structure. Gratitude is a broad emotion, and without a well-organized essay, the narrative might risk becoming scattered or disjointed. A well-thought-out outline becomes crucial to guide the reader through a journey that unfolds seamlessly, capturing the essence of gratitude from start to finish. The most formidable obstacle, perhaps, is the introspective nature of the task. Delving into one's own experiences and emotions to articulate the significance of gratitude demands a level of self- awareness that can be uncomfortable. It requires not only reflecting on positive aspects of life but also acknowledging and overcoming challenges, using them as stepping stones to appreciate the journey. In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on gratitude necessitates finesse, creativity, and introspection. It is a challenging endeavor that goes beyond mere expression, delving into the realm of authenticity and emotional resonance. As one grapples with the complexities of gratitude, the ultimate goal is to create a piece that not only resonates with the audience but also leaves them with a profound sense of connection and understanding. • 2. Impact Of The Space Race RQ: How and to what extent did the Space Race have a impact on United States s defense technologies? On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched the first ever satellite, Sputnik. The launch of Sputnik sent the United States into a frenzy, beginning the Space Race, and the innovation of technology as a whole. The Space Race most importantly had a major impact on the evolution of the United States s defense technologies through the launch of Sputnik. The Space Race sparked the United States battle for technological superiority against the USSR, and lead to improvizations in their satellite and satellite defense technologies. From a United States and Soviet Union perspective that conveys that the Space Race had a minor impact on the improvisation of United States defense technologies; the Space Race was in a way responsible for the United State s production of new technology of missiles and defense against intercontinental ballistic missiles. In the late 1950s the United States Air Force started a series of advanced strategic missile projects under the Weapon System WS 199A called Martin s Bold Orion air launched ballistic missile (ALBM). Similar to ICBMs the purpose of the ALBM was to destroy satellites sent into orbit that posed a intellectual and physical threat to the US. The ALBM was created due to the increasing pressure that the Soviets were to launch a satellite before the United States, and since the United States would not know of the capabilities of this

In the book, Machiavelli talks about the rise and fall of empires, and the actions that a leader can take to guarantee the states existence in the future as well. Machiavelli focuses his attention on how social orders really function. The Prince is extremely complicated to comprehend, and concentrates on the most effective ways to gain power and hold it for the future using examples, and offers guidance on what worked and what did not work in propelling a political vocation, mainly using Italy s empire and it s rulers as an illustration. The book starts with defining the various sorts of territories and rulers; in doing as such, it develops a layout for the entire book. The initial chapters thoroughly portray how to keep up composite territories that is, states that are recently made or taken over from another power, where the prince is unfamiliar with the people who he is supposed to rule. It further builds on the book s principle concerns the politics of power and control, war craft, and goodwill in an embodied frame. Machiavelli says that the state is just made if the general population participate and work to look after it. The state is likewise one of man s most prominent attempts, and the state outweighs everything else. The state ought to be one s essential concentration, and

  • 6. Paradise Lost Changes Paradise Lost by John Milton characterizes Eve prior to the Fall of Man, during the Fall, and after, and the story takes place in the Garden of Eden, Heaven, and Hell. This world renown epic poem takes us on Eve s journey and others during the beginning of the world. After sin overtook Eve, she consequently changed, and her relationship with Adam and God changed; however, mankind can relate to her today despite her major flaws. The character of Eve in Paradise Lost can be described as curious, wise, and beautiful prior to the first sin of mankind. He targeted Eve s only flaw, vanity, and he continues to feed us lies that appeal to our flesh today. Sin still produces the same result today that it did during the beginning of mankind. Just as Eve experienced shame beyond measure because of her sin, the same hold true today. The guilt and shame that sin creates far outweighs the pleasure that it may bring for the time

  • 9. The Impact Of The Minimum Wage Anyone can drive through a drive thru at midnight. Anyone can go to the store whenever they need to pick something up. But, not everyone stops to think about the workers who slide the debit card or bag the groceries. Many times, these people are making the minimum wage. Their lives and wages are effected by an economy which never seems to stop changing. Due to the federal minimum wagebeing recently increased, potential effects on employment can be explored on a national trend, in individual states with higher minimum wages, and in the lives of teens. In 1938, the United States sat in the middle of its biggest economic downfall known as the Great Depression. The majority of the country struggled through poverty with little chance of gaining employment. To try and help bring the country back to its feet, the United States federal government set a payment level known as the minimum wage. Over time, the wage has been used to insure all employees receive some sort of fair wage which is ideally high enough to live off of. As a result, the minimum wage has continually been adjusted to match inflation and other factors of an ever changing economy. The most recent minimum wage increase came on July 24, 2009, and it rose to $7.25 as can be found in the Fair Labor Standards Act (United States Department of Labor). With an economy that continues to change, it is no surprise national employment rates do as well. Due to the direct correlation between the two, it is easy

Trout fishing is still slow but a few are being caught by trollers with shad pattern spoons and shore anglers are finding some near the HWY 49 bridge. Bass fishing is still going well for those special anglers, according to John Leichty of Glory Hole Sports, who says that jigging may work in water 25 35 feet deep and some are having success near shore in shallower water. Even though these elements do not enhance each building s own function, it does, however, act as an ornament to the overall design that attracts viewers attention. To portray this idea, the Deerpath Hall front structure displays an illusion of even flatness in the building s main front wall. This is created by the top, front section of the building s wall being indented inwards and thus, creating a hollow space. The Most Common Concern Of Football The football is in the air and the receiver is running a crisp post route towards the free safety just along the hash marks and the goal line when suddenly he receives a helmet to helmet hit that leaves him unconscious. This is something that occurs far too often in the sport of football. Football has been around since 1869 and the National Football League(NFL) was established in 1920. Over the last few decades the NFL has grown to become a multi billion dollar organization whose annual championship game is America s most watched event each year. With each year the NFL grows, so does the concern for each player s safety. The most common concern is the traumatic injury in football known as a concussion. A concussion is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as, a stunning, damaging, or shattering effect from a hard blow; especially : a jarring injury of the brain resulting in disturbance of cerebral function. (Webster) Even though the NFL has denied the link between serious head trauma and football for many years, the NFL should do more to protect their players from future head trauma because new research shows the long term effects of concussions in football players and many former NFL players have been diagnosed with serious brain diseases. It is believed that football originated from Rugby in the 1800 s. People were tired of playing the same sport and one day decided to pick up the ball and run. Later, people started tackling the person with the ball and the game

Popular energy drinks, such as Rockstar, 5 Hour Energy, and Monster are consumed by individuals, as a way to remain cognizant, as well as alert, throughout their day. Many of the people consuming these drinks are young adults and teenagers. These people are oftentimes overwhelmed and busy. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, states, Energy drinks are beveragesthat typically contain caffeine, other plant based stimulants, simple sugars, and other additives. They are very popular among young people and are regularly consumed by 31% of 12 to 17 year olds and 34% of 18 to 24 year olds (CDC, 2015, p. 1). These statistics show the ages of people consuming these products and prove that it is mostly young people. Individuals might feel the need to consume an energy drinkbefore a sports match, work, school, homework, or any task which requires them to be mentally, as well as physically alert. There are many different types of energy drinks people can consume and these beverages have similar ingredients. • 20. Oceans And Plastic Pollution Oceans are very important factors in our environment. Our Earth is 71% water and 50% 80% of all life on Earth lives in that 71% water. The ocean also contains 99% of the living space on the planet. ( The Pacific Ocean Garbage Patch ). So as you can see, the water we have on Earth has a big purpose. Oceans are some families vacations and are admired for their beauty. They give us food, transportation, and even oxygen, but what do we do for the ocean? We pollute it. Our ocean contains 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris. Of that mass, 260,000 tons float on the service, while four billion plastic microfibers per square kilometer litter the deep sea. (Laura Parker). 80% Of marine debriscomes from trash and debris in urban runoff like land based sources. Key components of land based sources include litter, trash and debris from construction, ports and marinas, commercial and industrial facilities, and trash blown out of garbage containers, trucks, and landfills. Ocean based sources such as overboard items from ships and fishing gear, are the other 20%. Food containers and packaging are the largest component of the solid waste stream ( The Problem of Marine Plastic Pollution ). These items, together with plastic bags, also represent the largest component of marine debris. Packaging and single use disposable products are not only present in marine debris, but they represent an unsustainable use of precious resources like oil, trees, energy sources, and water. The quantity of marine debris is increasing in oceans worldwide. Researchers at the Algalita Marine Research Foundation documented an increase in plastic debris in the Central Pacific Gyre five fold between 1997 and 2007, where the baseline in 1997 showed plastic pieces outnumbered plankton on the ocean surface.( Clean Water Action ). Each year the pollution increases, making marine life decrease. The pollution also makes their living conditions worse, to the point where they have to leave their homes and live somewhere cleaner. Tens of thousands of individual animals from hundreds of marine species, including every kind of sea turtle and around half of marine mammals, have encountered plastic, glass, and other garbage in the ocean, according to a

Analysis Of The Book Leningrad Leningrad: The message meant to change society s views Billy Joel is an American singer and songwriter who toured Russia in the later days of the Cold War in the mid 1980 s. Billy Joel was the first American to tour any communist country since the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 and the raising of the Iron Curtain. Billy Joel, through the use of this Russian tour, was able to witness the Russian life first hand. During this tour he began to realize that not everything he had been taught about the Russians and the life they lived was entirely true. During the tour Joel became friends with a Man named Viktor who attended all of the performances during this tour. Billy Joel s management learned about Viktor and set up a way for the pair to... The song Leningrad is of interest to me because I am a musician myself and I play the piano as does Billy Joel. Music has always played a substantial role in my life so I decided to use a music as the artifact of this assignment. To me, it is interesting to find out how a popular song can change and affect the opinions and thinking of its listeners through the use of a mass media outlet. The average person does not typically take an analytical approach to a song to figure out the message behind it. It is also interesting that a listener can still be persuaded by a song s message whether the listener knows it is happening or not. The use of song as a way to shed light on social situations has been around for many years and frequently these songs usually focus on issues on a more minor scale. Leningrad does the exact opposite by not only being used for entertainment but also by using a war that most people had grown up through and showing how we can help resolve these issues that caused the war. Approaching the song Leningrad from a theoretical understanding is useful in that it shows how Billy Joel uses his words and experiences with the Russian people to persuade and change the opinions that the American people have towards the Russian s system of

Venezuela Corruption And Corruption Although Venezuela is in a deplorable state of poverty and ruin due to the corruption and fiscal irresponsibility of its government, a regime change could return Venezuela to its former glory by opening its borders to foreign investing and capitalizing on its environmental landscapes to revive the Venezuelan tourism industry. The current administration has systematically driven the country into poverty and ruin by consistently failing to meet the needs of its citizens and by continuing to implement policies that erode the economy. For instance, the Venezuelan administration s mismanagement of funds by corrupt government officials resulted in a failure to repay debts to China, which in turn caused Venezuelas largest creditor to cease any further business deals with the same. Moreover, government officials including Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, have grown their net worth while the country s inflation rose a staggering 700% in 2016 as the vast majority (approximately 85%) of the population lived in poverty. The corruption and poor leadership throughout the government is prominent to the point that the US Department of the Treasury issued sanctions against President Maduro after holding illegitimate elections to retain power. Additionally, anytime the population rises in protest, even if peaceful, Maduro s government has reacted by deploying military forces, often resulting in blatant violations and abuse of human rights that has led to countless unnecessary civilian deaths. The Venezuelan government s fiscal irresponsibility, bad economic policy, and limitless corruption has created a financial void of such magnitude that, not even the country with the largest oil reserves in the world can procure critical medications, food, or basic necessities for 9/10 of the population. Additionally, hospitals are powerless to administer care; they are underfunded to the point where patients themselves must bring their basic necessities such as toilet paper and medications prior to being admitted into medical facilities. Even simple medications such as antibiotics, cough medicine or eye drops have to be shipped and sometimes smuggled into the country because corrupt customs officials illegally confiscate the

Each method offers various advantages. Selection of the bioleaching type for a specific application depends on several factors including: the ore composition, gold content, surrounding environment and amount of available reserves. 2.2.1 BIOREACTORS Bioreactors are employed when the value of the gold recovery is sufficient to justify the costs of installing and operating the necessary equipment. The Evolutionary Change Under Strong Selective Pressures Domestication is a phenomenon that has promoted significant evolutionary change under strong selective pressures (Driscoll et al. 2009). As a result of this phenomenon, various domesticated strains of flora and fauna have significantly contributed to the development of human civilization (Morey 1994; Driscoll 2009). Although it was a substantial component to our progress, it was not until the research of Dmitry K. Belyaev that we began to unravel the early stages of domestication. Assuming that these initial stages involved selectionon behavior, Belyaev conducted an experimental study that placed strong selective pressures on tamability. Using the fox, Vulpes vulpes, as a model, this artificial selection developed an experimental population that expressed behavioral, morphological, and physiological characteristics of domesticated species (Belyaev 1969). Under stressful conditions, animals have the tendency to engage in avoidance responses to promote their chances of survival (Smith Vale 2006; Ranabir Reetu 2011). These avoidance responses, including fearful and/or aggressive behavior, also tend to be the primary reactions to human encounters. Belyaev suggested that as a consequence, social interactions in the early stages of domestication likely depended on animals with an inhibited response to stress. Ergo, he reasoned that selectively breeding animals expressing this behavioral response, or tamability, would likely mirror these early stages (Belyaev 1969). In

Locke believes that God has given us all things richly, and that man may use those things as long as he takes what he needs. Men can have property as long as they obtained it rightfully, and as long as they use discretion. If those limitations were overlooked when the person was getting the property the property was not obtained rightfully. In the chapter the rights of property, Locke tells the role that the invention of money plays in property rights. Money was invented because people were abusing their property rights. With the creation of money things were given value, and this invention prevented people from taking more than they could afford. Money was an invention that men could keep without spoiling. Men could exchange money for truly useful, but perishable supports of life. This invention plays a big role in the property rights. Now that there is money people have to use that money to get what they need instead of taking whatever they want as was the case before the invention of money. He believes that in governments, the laws regulate the right of property, and the possession of land is determined by positive constitutions. Everyone makes mistakes, but some that Scrooge had made, made a big impact on his life. Because of his lack to spread kindness and charity, Scrooge s consequences were three lovely visits from the Spirit of ChristmasPast, Present and Yet to Come that made Scrooge reflect on his previous decisions so he can have an even greater future. When Scrooge s partner, Marley, passes away, he lives an even more greedy and selfish life, finding another reason to strongly hate Christmas. Thus one part of why his poor action will provide a future consequence. Secondly, since Scrooge had been so selfish to everyone, including the whole town of London, it is pretty certain that all of London dislikes Scrooge. Although the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge that if he does indeed stay selfish, he most certainly will not be missed when he passes away. Lastly, his mistake in life was from his past when he decides to worry and obsess over making money and being successful rather than making sure he and his fiance s future was more secure rather than secure finances. A Christmas Caroldisplays actions and consequences depend on one s own actions and decisions whether good or bad. First, Scrooge s Co Worker, Jacob Marley passes away on Christmas Eve one year and will never come back. Scrooge continues on with his life, although

  • 40. Greek Art Period and Comparison of Kroisos from, Anavysos... Greek art took many ideas from Egypt and Mesopotamia however as the years passed they started to develop and create their own unique style. This style was more realistic and natural visually. One of their goals was for the viewer to believe they are seeing a moment standing still in time. You can see this when you compare Kroisos from, Anavysos Greece, and Doryphorus from Pompeii, Italy. These pieces are roughly dated 80 years apart however the difference between the two forms are so remarkable. This paper will be discussing and addressing the evolution of a more naturalistic art form, from the statue of Kroisos compared to the statue of Doryphorus during the Greek art period. At a first glance of the statues you may not see the dramatic differences between the two however they were both approached in different ways to be created. They have different meanings yet both were created to be more naturalistic than what came before it. In Anavysos, Greece a statue of a Kouros was discovered dedicated to Kroisos. Kouros statues were male figures also known as youths that were erected on graves as a gift for the gods and as a marker for these graves. None of the statues were identical however you could see that the all had the same base image to be formed from. This particular one was in honor of Kroisos who died a very noble death in battle in the front lines so his family erected this statue. This piece is dated circa 530BCE and is 6 4 high carved from marble. This

Throughout the novel, a young mexican girl named Esperanza goes through experiences as she matures that involve her friends, society, dangers that expose her to the outside world and help her to realize what the real worldis like. The first time Esperanza makes an appearance in the book, she is younger and easily manipulated, especially by her friends. Esperanza meets a girl named Cathy, a snobby girl that lived on Mango Street. When Cathy tells Esperanza Okay, I ll be your friend. But only until next Tuesday. That s when we move away. Then as if she forgot I had just moved in, she says the neighborhood is getting bad (13) This was a racist statement towards Esperanza and her family, something she doesn t quite understand yet because Esperanza thinks Cathy forgot they moved in, yet she was actually being racist. This is the first time Esperanza is exposed to racism in the book, therefore exposing her to the outside world. Ella Cinders by Bill Conselman and Charlie Plumb has a very intriguing narrativeand cartooning style that fits well with the comic s story. Action to action in Ella Cinders shows turning points in the comic. In panels 1 and 2 on tier 4 in comic 2, the detective turns around the girl, who looks like Ella Cinders, only to find out the girl is not Ella Cinders. The transition takes place in the same scene but the characters are doing different actions which is why the scene is action to action. Scene to scene transition is mainly used in comics to show the readers the diegesis and explain the story in a clearer way. In comic one, scene to scene transition is used to show how many animals are in the forest. If the scene did not change in the first comic the readers would not be able to see all of the animals Ella Cinders comes across. Without the animals in comic one the story line would be bland and boring to readers. Ella Cinders is a comic that gets to the point and uses illustrations to help tell the story. The Story is told equally by illustrations and by simple yet ironic dialogue. Transitions with a speech is not needed in this comic because the dialogue is not the most important form of telling the story. Also characters talk in short dialogue instead of long speeches.. Transitions are meant to interest the reader and tell the story in a clear way. However, since Ella Cinders is a simple comic that needs little dialogue to tell the story transition with a speech in not used in this

It introduces readers to numerous aspects of life including treatment of women, prejudices towards individuals and groups, social structures, and accepted social behavior. Carmen, as both a novel and opera, is a literary work that was written not only to entertain but also to reflect nineteenth century society. The Opera stretched the accepted boundaries of established behavior in the opera house and even went as far as to show a death on stage, an unacceptable visual display that was always implied but never enacted. For the musical interpretation the rich narrative was removed and a dramatic change was made in the form of an additional new female character, Micaela. Micaela is a perfect foil to Carmen. As her counterpart, she is a passive character who represents typically accepted feminine characteristics of the time, such as fear and obedience. To facilitate musical form Carmen the novel was changed to incorporate a new story line. Carmen, the opera, incorporates Don Jose as the main character. Here he is represented as a soldier, a well respected position in society, as opposed to a barbaric savage. As he is outside his post, Micaela, who has willingly followed the request of Jose s mother to meet him and marry him, confronts Jose. Jose greets Micaela with great joy and sees her as an ideal mate. Carmen soon appears on the stage and is followed by fellow workers and male admirers. • 47. The Negative Effects Of The Information Media And The News... NEWS MEDIA EFFECTS HUM/186 Ricky Conard 8/06/2017 News Media Effects American culture has changed so much in the past century. Looking back to the 1900s there wasn t technology like we have today. Today with all the technology and the capabilities of getting breaking news faster allows us to input that information in our minds and it eventually pulls people into the conflict. There are pros and cons about whether we should get news faster or is the media adding fuel to the fire with stories. When you look at the word responsibilities you often tend to think that it holds someone accountable whether its you, the media or a different country. When you look at social responsibilities from the media you end up with a 50/50 chance of that information being true. My next question is does the information media have social responsibility? Some may say no they don t have social responsibility. As for many of us we tend to believe they do have social responsibility. They are responsible for what they are publishing. Let s look at an example of this. Let s say I was to go downtown and make up a story. I then make a big scene to gather as many people as I can. Then as the people are listening and watching I precede to tell them the local county officials are spending the tax payer s money on alcohol and private parties for themselves. At this point I honestly don t know if they do but I heard it from a friend of mine. So, by hearing that I assume its true since that person is my friend. Well in this case its not true but I end up getting arrested for defaming the officials. Now look at the media. They can publish an article making claims that the presidential campaign is doing illegal activity. Do they get arrested for making false claims? The answer is no. Why is that? That s not very fair if you think about it. If the media is going to publish millions of stories just because they have journalists reporting back to them then that holds them accountable for the story. They are taking the word from a person which they don t know if that journalist is tweaking the story to make it seem bigger then what it was. If the media decides to base their decisions upon their scouters or what they hear then
  • 48. American Romanticism Research Paper American Romanticism was the first literary movement in the U.S. between 1820 and 1860. This rapid growth of intuition, imagination, and individualism influenced many now famous authors to have the literature we know today. Romanticism is typically defined as a literary and philosophical theory that tends to see the individual at the center of all life, and it places the individual, therefore, at the center of art, making literature valuable as an expression of unique feelings and particular attitudes and valuing its fidelity in portraying experiences, however fragmentary and incomplete, more than its adherence to completeness, unity, or the demands of the genre. Although romanticismtends at times to regard nature as alien, it more often sees in nature a revelation of Truth . . . and a more suitable subject for art than those aspects of the world sullied by artifice. Romanticism seeks to find the Absolute, the Ideal, by transcending the actual (A Handbook to Literature). Romanticism is a movement wherein artists reacted to the constraints of Realism and moved toward the individual as a creative being. Although we haven t yet found any way to directly observe either dark matter or dark energy, scientists have been able to see it s effects and confirm the existence of these abstract forces. First of all, dark energy and dark matter are not as similar as you may think. They both are extremely difficult if not impossible to detect and very little is known about either but the similarities end there. Dark matter is the word we use to explain the large amounts of matter that s gravity keeps galaxies from ripping themselves apart. Essentially, it is the undetectable matter that influences the gravity of galaxies and the way we perceive light from distant galaxies. This gravitational effect is the only way we know that dark matter is there. This is because without a considerable amount of matter in addition to the regular matter in the universe, large galaxies would not be able to the forces of gravity and makes up more of the universe than dark matter and regular matter combined (about 68% of the universe) One theory on this is the possibility that the expansion of the universe is just a property of empty space . This theory has to do with the fact that empty space is not empty and may have its own form of energy that makes galaxies continually spread out. A similar theory suggests that the universe s expansion is due to the virtual particles popping in and out of existence in an incredibly short amount of time. This theory suggests that these particles give off a small amount of energy that could expand the universe. Another theory claims that dark energy is an energetic fluid that fills empty space and expands all of space. In conclusion, Dark matter and dark energy cannot be observed but affect our universe in strange ways, and even though we know there effects are still quite a mystery scientists
