Good Themes For Essays
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Good Themes For Essays" might seem deceptively simple at
first glance, yet delving into the task reveals its inherent challenges. The difficulty lies in the
subjective nature of what constitutes a "good" theme, as it is contingent upon individual
perspectives, cultural contexts, and evolving societal norms.
Firstly, identifying universally appealing themes that resonate across diverse audiences poses a
significant challenge. What might be compelling to one person may fall flat for another. The
essay writer must navigate through this labyrinth of subjectivity, attempting to strike a balance
between uniqueness and relatability.
Furthermore, the task demands a keen understanding of the target audience. Is the essay
intended for a scholarly community, a general readership, or a specialized group? Tailoring
themes to suit the preferences and expectations of the audience adds an extra layer of
complexity, as the writer must carefully gauge the level of depth, complexity, and relevance
required.
Research becomes a crucial aspect of the process. Unearthing themes that are not only intriguing
but also supported by credible sources is an intricate dance. It involves scouring academic
journals, literature, and contemporary discourse to ensure the themes chosen are not only
captivating but also grounded in substance.
Crafting a coherent narrative around these themes is another challenge. The essay must flow
seamlessly, connecting ideas and themes in a logical progression. This necessitates a profound
understanding of the chosen themes, their nuances, and their interconnections. Balancing depth
with clarity is an art that demands honed writing skills.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Good Themes For Essays" is a nuanced
endeavor. It demands a delicate balance between subjectivity and universality, a keen
understanding of the audience, meticulous research, and adept writing skills. The essay writer
embarks on a journey to unravel the complexities of theme selection, aiming to create an
engaging narrative that resonates with a diverse readership.
For those who find this task daunting, there are resources available to provide assistance. Similar

A company must be in tune with what consumers want. Consumers get bored, and
often want new products. In order to meet the wants and needs of customers a
company must introduce new products or services (Bateman Snell, 2003). Coca
Cola, in an effort to meet customer s needs, created C2 which is a low carb soft
drink. This was in response to the low carb diets and the demands of consumers.
They also intend to launch a new soft drink called Coca Cola Zero. This is a zero

Descriptive Essay On Getting A Dog
There s one dream that all children have in common, getting a dog. I was once one
of those children. Fourth grade me, wanted...needed to have a dog. I would do or
say anything to make my parents give in to my obsession. Unfortunately, I was the
second youngest out of five kids and my parents had grown a strong backbone
through experience with the others. But I knew, with the help of my siblings and
my adorable ten year old charm, I would have a fair chance of winning this battle. I
knew this because at the end of the day, every parentwants to see their child happy,
even if that means getting a dog. The first step to getting a dog, or getting anything
I wanted, was to convince my dad. I ve always been my dad s little girl , and I
knew his soft spots. I remember little ten year old me walking up to my dad s
office and knocking on the door. Peaking my head in, my dad put his finger to his
mouth telling me to be quiet, then ushered me to walk in. I knew he was on a
work call but I sat on his lap anyway. This was my first move. The second was
waiting until he hung up on the work call, then casually asking him about his day.
Once I knew he was softened up, I would ask him about the dog. Hey Dad... I
hesitated
Uh oh, what do you want? He could tell by the tone in my voice.
Why don t we have a dog? I could hear him trying to stifle a laugh when he realized I
was serious.
Because your mother and I don t have time to take care of a dog.
Here s my opportunity, What if I
The Battle Of Fallujah Brigade
The 2nd Battle of Fallujah was fought during OIF 2 (Operation Iraqi Freedom).
Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 began at about March April 2004 and lasted until
February March 2005. The 2nd Battle of Fallujah began 7 November 2004 and
ended 23 December 2004. The objective of the operation was to capture or kill those
responsible for murders and, corrupt activities, and end the rise of the insurgency in
the city. The intent of the operation was to restore control of the city to the Coalition
and the Iraqi Governing Council. Some of the events that led to the 2nd Battle of
Fallujah were the U.S. forces being unsuccessful during Operation Vigilant Resolve
(the 1st Battle of Fallujah) to capture the city and the Fallujah Brigadefailing to
maintain control of the city.
At the end of Operation Vigilant Resolve, the Marines withdrew from the city and
handed over security responsibilities to the Fallujah Brigade. The Fallujah Brigade
was an Iraqi solution to the Fallujah problem, composed of former Iraqi soldiers and
locally recruited men. Major General Jassim Mohammed Saleh who was immediately
replaced by General Muhammad Latif, a former Iraqi Army Intelligence officer,
originally led the brigade. The security responsibilities included provisions for the
surrender of heavy weapons by the insurgents and stipulated that the Fallujah Brigade
would initiate investigations murderers and mutilators of the Blackwater employees.
The insurgents and terrorists expand through the city,
Advantages Of Linear Dynamic Analysis
1.3.2Linear dynamic analysis = for tall buildings, buildings with torsional
irregularities, or non orthogonal systems, a dynamic procedure is required. In the
linear dynamic procedure, the building is modelled as a multi degree of freedom
(MDOF) system with a linear elastic stiffness matrix and an equivalent viscous
damping matrix. Linear dynamic analysis is carried out by two methods: Response
spectrum method Elastic time history method The corresponding internal forces and
displacements are determined using linear elastic analysis. The advantage of these
linear dynamic procedures with respect to linear static procedures is that higher
modes can be considered. However, they are based on linear elastic response and
hence the applicability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In nonlinear dynamic analyses, the detailed structural model subjected to a ground
motion record produces estimates of component deformations for each degree of
freedom in the model and the modal responses are combined using schemes such as
the square root sum of squares. The non linear properties of the structure are
considered as part of a time domain analysis. This approach is the most rigorous, and
is required by some building codes for buildings of unusual configuration or of
special importance. However, the calculated response can be very sensitive to the
characteristics of the individual ground motion used as seismic input; therefore,
several analyses are required using different ground motion records to achieve a
reliable estimation of the probabilistic distribution of structural response. Since the
properties of the seismic response depend on the intensity, or severity, of the seismic
shaking, a comprehensive assessment calls for numerous nonlinear dynamic analyses
at various levels of intensity to represent different possible earthquake scenarios. This
has led to the emergence of methods like the Incremental Dynamic

Hygiene is one of the most important attributes of human body and every individual
wants to stay clean and healthy. It is a big issue for frequent travelers to find
products which can accompany them on long trips without breaking down. Every
person utilizes a toothbrush at least twice a day and it is something very personal that
no one shares with anyone. Since a long time, people have switched to electric
toothbrushbecause it is more convenient to use and offers much more cleanliness
compared to a regular toothbrush.
Dozens of manufacturers produce electric toothbrushes and it can become extremely
confusing on which one to choose. There are some big name manufacturers which

Main Aspects Of Contract Act 1950
Contract is the basis of all commercial transactions. A contract is a deal or a bargain
from which both parties expect to benefit. The word contract can be defined as an
agreement involving two or more people that is legally binding upon the parties.
The contract law in Malaysia is mainly enforced and governed by the Contracts Act
1950. Consideration is the main elements to make a legal contract. Besides, a void
agreement has no legal effect. I agree that when an agreement, which was legal and
enforceable when it was entered in to, may subsequently become void due to
agreement without consideration or other reason. Consideration defined by Section

Three Types of Friends Essay
A friend is defined as someone emotionally close or somebody who trusts and is
fond of another. The affect that a person one calls his or her acquaintance can
sometimes be very deep and heartfelt. From my experience, I have encountered
three types of friends: the chronic complainer, the staller, and the know it all. A
chronic complainer is a he or she that is fault finding. Chronic complainers choose
to blame someone else or something for his or her actions. Also, they are uncertain
about what should be done. I have this friend that I consider a chronic complainer;
she never takes the blame for anything and no matter what the situation is she s
going to find a problem. There have been plenty of times that we would go out to eat,

The staller would not be of any help with moving or any other hard job. The person
I know that fits this description is not a friend but actually a family member. This
person comes to do the simplest job ever, but has to call two or three more people
to come help him out. Instead of him helping he stands there and gives out orders
to everyone else. He also dose not get his important business handled; he likes to sit
around and wait until the last minute or until it s too late before he tries to do
anything about a situation. This is not someone who you would want helping you
with some very important job. Last but not least is the know it all. The know it all
acts superior and makes others feel stupid. They also maybe bullheaded and
impatient; know it alls really don need or want any help. One of my closest friends
is a prime example of a know it all. She knows everything that is discussed and
want let anyone else put there say so in about the topic. One day one of my cousins
and I were talking about the cost of daycare and she just cut both of us off and
went on talking about the different costs. She didn t know what she was talking
about because she dose not have any kids. So when I cut her off and went to
correcting her she got so mad with me because what I was saying made more sense
than what she was saying. Know it alls are the kinds of friends a person will have the

Bicycle Thief Essay
The Bicycle Thief The Bicycle Thief is probably the best known and most highly
praised of all the Italian Neorealist films of its era. The films of the Neorealist
movement were characterized by several primary ideas. Instead of featuring
stories focusing on glitz and glamour, Neorealist films focused on the poor and the
working class. Instead of building and fabricating complex sets to film on, they did
their filming on location. And instead of trying to get the most well known, highly
paid celebrity actors, they frequently used people that weren t even professional
actors and had no training for their starring roles. This all helped lend a sense of
realism and weight to the stories. The Bicycle Thief takes place in Rome during a...

Comparing Trifles And A Jury Of Her Peers

The male characters add to these social rules and expectations with a more
personalized form of oppression: by belittling individual women for their
weaknesses and their interests. Mr. Peters mocks his own wife s fear of traveling to

kitchen, or the items Mrs. Wright has requested in prison, are below their notice. In
this way, the men devalue the women by devaluing the only things that have been left
to the control of women. In many ways, Mrs. Peters and Martha Hale accept the
treatment they receive from the male characters. In fact, they contribute to the gender

Treatment Options For Excoriation Disorder
Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder Sarah Rebecca Carter Auburn
University School of Nursing Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder
Excoriation disorder, also known as skin picking disorder, is characterized by the
frequent scratching or picking of the skin. Picking most commonly occurs in areas
of the body that the patient can reach, such as the arms, inner thighs, face, fingers,
and upper back (Turner, Sutton, Sharma, 2014). The incessant skin picking can
cause physical and/or psychosocial damage, including scabs, scars, open wounds,
infection, shame, embarrassment, and social isolation. Skin picking disorder is
more common in females, with picking episodes lasting anywhere from five
minutes to twelve hours per day (Gelinas Gagnon, 2013). Though excoriation
disorder can occur on its own, it often coexists with other psychiatric issues.
Patients who are diagnosed with excoriation disorder are often also diagnosed with
anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders
(Capriotti, Ely, Snorrason, Woods, 2015). Excoriation disorder is relatively common,
but little research has been done to evaluate the best and most effective course of
treatment to control and/or eliminate the disease (Oliveira, Leppink, Derbyshire,
Grant, 2015). Due to the lack of research concerning skin picking disorder and the
disease s effects on the mind and body, it is important for psychiatric nurses to

Mary Pickford Research Paper
This thing we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down. This quote
from Mary Pickford explains that if you attempt to achieve something and you don
t succeed in the beginning, you just have to keep trying and you will never fail.
This quote perfectly demonstrates the life of Mary Pickford, because she
encountered many obstacles throughout her life, and never let them stop her from
achieving her goals by maintaining her focused attitude. Mary Pickford was an
important figure in 1920s American History because she stood up for actors and
actresses by fighting for higher wages, and didn t let the conflicts in her life stop her.

The thing making her different from most actresses at this time was her business
attitude and willingness to fight for what she wanted. For many years, Pickford
worked with The Famous Players Company, which was partly responsible for the

independent producer, teaming up with actor Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith
and creating United Artists Corporation. After quickly divorcing Owen Moore,
Pickford married Fairbanks in 1920. Pickford was now a top female silent film

Analysis On Key Value Stores Essay
Analysis on Key Value Stores
Introduction
We have come into the era of Big Data. As (Atikoglu, Xu, Frachtenberg, Jiang,
Paleczny, 2012) stated, the need for efficiently storing large scale data in scale out
companies at lower cost is dramatically increasing. Therefore Key Value Store has
occurred in popularity. (Fitzpatrick, 2004) has clarified that KV stores plays an
essential role in lots of huge websites such as Facebook, Twitter, GitHub and
Amazon. This paper reviewed 6 popular key value stores and distinguished primary
features, performance and availability of each. The six systems are Hyperdex,
Dynamo, SILT, Project Voldemort used by LinkedIn, Berkeley DB and LevelDB
used by Google.
A key value store database has a set of keys and values, and each value is associated
with a key. The implementation of key value store database is actually a distributed
hash table (Stonebraker, 04/2010). Key Value Stores(KV), which are normally
known as a model of NoSQL databases, are widely deployed for data operation and
management in purpose of enhancing Internet services due to better scalability,
higher efficiency and more availability than existing relational databases systems
(Wang, et al., 2014). Because KV stores sacrifice relation model in exchange for fast
writing, and they are often featured with simple methods like put() , delete() and get()
.
LevelDB
LevelDB is a very lightweight, simple key value store with limited operational
abilities. LevelDB will store data in
Manley Pointer In Flannery O Connor s Good Country
People
Manley Pointer, the antagonist of Flannery O Connor s Good Country People, is a
character of multiple dimensions. He is considered a good country people by
many of the characters in the beginning of the short story, including Hulga.
However, by the end, it is revealed that he is not a reputable person, and is rather
the opposite of the persona he portrays himself. Manley believes that he must act
this way in order to make a living. There is a root cause to his flawed rational that
must be uncovered, although some would argue that he is only a simple character
and has no root cause to explain his behavior. However, Manley s past is extremely
influential to his actions and the person he claims to be. Manley s actions indicate
two different personas that are conflicting. In the beginning Manley presents as a
simple character that is only interested in selling Bibles. He talks with Mrs. Hopewell
and creates a friendly environment around himself that influences how the other
characters view him. Through this alternate persona, he is able to trick the other
characters into thinking that he is a sweet, innocent young man. Believing in this act,

Factory owners and farm workers can also be charged as human traffickers for
overworking and underpaying illegal immigrants. This applies to wealthy people
as well, who have domestic workers who might be working and living with them
as pretty much slaves. Forced labor and services is labor that is done by a worker
through force, fraud, duress or any conduct that is against the person s will. In
order for these clothing and textile factories to survive in a competitive industry,
they must give their employees low wages, due to the international minimum labor
cost. For example, in 2006 a thai welding company was closed down due to having
48 workers working long hour days with very minimum pay. One worker shared
his story on how he was forced to work at a Long Beach restaurant for 13 hours a
day for three months, only earning nearly $220 in total.(articles.latimes.com) I
believe since California is a big state and has nearly 2.6 million illegal immigrants,
it makes it a big target for human traffickers to intimidate people to work for them.
Illegal Immigrants will not speak up sometimes because of fear. The human
trafficking numbers can be lower than they should probably be from all the cases that
do not go accounted for. In 2013, Forced labor in San Diego of spanish speaking

Greenhouse Effect Essay
Global warming is one of the major problems facing the Earth. Our year is divided
up into four seasons: summer, fall, winter, spring. Unless you live at the equator, you
ve likely noticed that each season has become slightly warmer and often drive than
usual. Humans have been on Earth for a little over two hundred thousand years and
the human population has been increased to over seven billion. According to the
article Global warming, Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earths
average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse
gases released as people burn fossil fuels, (1) The article by Kirschner ststaes, Carbon
Dioxideis odorless, colorless and tasteless gas. (Kirschner 168) The causes of global
warming are greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the heat that
gets trapped in. Both human and non human factors have contributed to global
warming, but only the human factors are within our control.
Global warming is a complex progress. Global warming is cause by the greenhouse
effect. According to the article What is climate change? , The greenhouse effect
refers to the way the Earth s atmosphere traps some of the energy from the Sun.
Solar energy radiation back out to space from the Earth s surface is absorbed by
atmospheric greenhouse gases and re emitted in all directions, (1). The Earth s
glaciers are melting; one of the most immediate and obvious effects of global
warming is the increase in
An Immigrant Journey Personal Response
It was such a joy to be able to watch An Immigrant Journey . Everyone that was
involved in the play in any way, did a fantastic job on creating the story and making
the story much more believable for audience members. I thought the cast did a
fantastic job of condensing down over 125 hours of research material, into a 50
minute show, which had to be incredibly challenging. The cast of An Immigrant
Journey did a good job on effectively creating the stories, and making the stories
easier for the audiencemembers to follow. The plot, the setting of each individual
story and characters were effectively written, which helped establish the story that
was being told. I thought that it was very cleaver before the playeven started, that

Mortgage Rainmaker Essay
The Future of the Mortgage Rainmaker
Rising from the ashes of the homeownership crisis, the mortgage industry has never

Considerations:
The rate differential between the #1 and the #3,000 mortgage company is about $7 a

During Henry s free time, he would spend time working on building a gasoline
engine ignited by electricity. On June 4, 1896, at age 32, Henry completed his first
successful horseless carriage which was called the Quadricycle (http:/
/www.hfmgv.org/exhibits/hf/). Soon after that, Henry started working on making
better automobiles and making them for sale. Henry joined with investors to
establish a company that would manufacturer automobiles. But then a year later,
the company was disbanded. Henry Ford designed a new car, the Model T. Henry
built it in 1908 and was designed to be lighter, faster, and stronger. Henry had found
and used Vanadium steel for the Model T which was much stronger than regular
steel. When Henry finished a Model T, he would paint it black since that paint color
dried the fastest. Ever since the Model T became popular so quickly, Henry was
trying to find a way to speed up manufacturing (http://www.history.com/topics/henry

making cars go faster and the cost. The assembly line made the cars cheaper. The
Model T cars was sold for $850, then dropped to $300. Between 1908 until 1927,
Henry made about 15 million cars

Essay on Jungian Psychology and Joseph Conrad’s
Heart of...
As the Heart of Darkness snakes its way into the savage shadows of the African
continent, Joseph Conrad exposes a psycho geography of the collective unconscious
in the entangling metaphoric realities of the serpentine Congo. Conrad s novella
descends into the unknowable darkness at the heart of Africa, taking its narrator,
Marlow, on an underworldjourney of individuation, a modern odyssey toward the
center of the Self and the center of the Earth. Ego dissolves into soul as, in the
interior, Marlow encounters his double in the powerful image of ivory obsessed
Kurtz, the dark shadow of European imperialism. The dark meditation is graced by
personifications of anima in Kurtz black goddess, the savagely magnificent consort of

The unknown and uncharted topography of the African continent first beckoned
Conrad s narrator, Marlow, into its depths in his boyhood: Now, when I was a little
chap I had a passion for maps. I would look for hours at South America, or Africa,
or Australia, and lose myself in all the glories of exploration (Conrad, 5). When
Marlow was grown and Africa was no longer a blank space on the map, but rather a
place of darkness, there was still one river there that drew him especially, a mighty
big river, that you could see on the map, resembling an immense snake uncoiled,
with its head in the sea, its body at rest curving afar over a vast country, and its tail
lost in the depths of the land (Conrad, 5 6). This same deep place that had seduced
Conrad s ivory hunting Kurtz into the horrors of its savage embrace had, in 1890,
lured Conrad himself into adventure that turned him from sailor to writer (Smith,
25) and severely effected his health for the rest of his life (Conrad,v). As the voyage
up the Congo proved fateful for the development of Conrad s narrator, Marlow, it
was equally fateful for Conrad s individuation, as he reflects in his letters Before the

Hawthorne mentioning his Puritan ancestors in the beginning of his book shows that

character well developed by Hawthorne who goes through problems that society
could possibly go through. In Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter before the

Introduction. Weathering Occurs Through Interaction
Between
Introduction Weathering occurs through interaction between rocks, soils, and
minerals and the Earth s atmosphere, biosphere, and hydrosphere. Different types of
weathering fall under three general categories of weathering: physical, chemical, and
biological. Tafoni weathering refers to small cavernous holes and features that is
found in granular rock. Typically, these features include smooth concave walls and
are adjacent with one another in networks. Tafoni weathering is a subtype of
weathering that falls under hydration weathering and ultimately under the larger
umbrella category of physical weathering processes. Fundamentally, this particular
weathering occurs due to a salt crystal expansion process where salt crystals or
deposits... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the Santa Monica Mountains also undergo Aeolian processes during
particularly strong wind activity such as Santa Ana wind events. Moreover, our
primary focus area was restrained to about a 1 mile hike into the park and reached a
large volcanic swimming hole. The swimming hole acted as a boundary, but there are
a few observations beyond the swimming hole that also contribute to this weathering
process. In a short distance beyond the swimming hole, there is a visible fault line.
Within the hike, the first observable evidence of tafoni weathering was about 40
minutes into the hike. Passing a large rock archway, tafoni weathering was evident in
the rock face of the archway as well as the side of the mountains beyond this point. In
addition to larger mountains, tafoni weathering was also present in smaller hillsides.
This particular type of weathering was also evident in the mountains overlooking the
swimming hole. The tafoni weathering observed in the mountains around the
swimming hole had larger cave like features than the mountains not directly touching
a body of water. Discussion Presently, there are studies conducted to better understand
tafoni weathering with several investigations and theoretical models but due to
limited data available on temperature, moisture and salt regimes it is difficult to
Similarities Between Krapp And Waiting For Godot

Play Analysis
Samuel Beckett s plays illustrate the concepts of existentialism, such as identity,
authenticity, and anxiety. A primary idea throughout Beckett s plays is the
character s need to do something in order to feel fulfilled. This provides a false
sense of purpose, and some characters are aware that they are just going through the
motions, whereas others are not. The two plays that I will be using to develop this
idea are Krapp s Last Tape and Waiting for Godot, with Krapp representing the former
type of character and Vladmir the latter. Include our innate need for companionship,
which is shown in both plays, in Krapp s Last Tape through the lack of companionship

He maintains the facade that he is improving upon himself by making these tapes,
but in reality he uses them to fuel his self pity. The scene is set in his office, which is
completely dark, as is described in the tape from when Krapp was 39:
With all this darkness round me I feel less alone. [Pause.] In a way. [Pause.] I love
to get up and move about in it, then back here to [hesitates]...me. [Pause.] Krapp.
He is incapable of feeling fulfillment in himself because the only aspect of his life
he derives happiness from is his past, but this also makes him feel an intensely
negative sense of nostalgia. In addition to Krapp s tapes showing no indications of
self improvement in his mental health, they also show that his poor physical health
has remained the same. When Krapp listens through his old tapes, the version of him
in the present and the version of him in the past perform the same actions. For
example, Krapp states in the tape that he has eaten three bananas and with difficulty
refrained from a fourth, and which were bad for his health, and Krapp was eating a
second banana while listening to the tape.
Similarly, the way that Vladmir and Estragon try to find a sense of purpose is through
their waiting in vain for Godot. They do this in spite of their uncertainty about the
meeting place, the time, and
How the Music Industry Utilized Film to Help Create the...
With all the social, political and cultural changes occurring in the 1960s, youth
culture was embracing the ideologies of rebellion and counterculture. The Folk
music of the sixties was giving way to the new Rock revolution and with this came
the iconic Rock Rebel. The Rock Rebel is a romanticized existential figure who
revolts against social conventions in a quest to find value or a sense of freedom
beyond the pre existing conforms of society. (Camus; 1967) Through analysing, in a
sociological context, the way the music industry utilized film to help create or
reinvent star image of Rock icons The Beatlesand The Rolling Stones, we can see how
the signifier of the Rock Rebel has evolved with the developing Rock culture. (Dyer;

(1997:24) For example, George shows his rebel streak against traditional fashion
when he speaks against the choices of professional trendsetter, stating: You mean
that posh bird who gets everything wrong? Ringo in an interview refuses to be
defined and as such when asked Are you a Mod or a Rocker? he replies I m a
mocker. Similarly John also makes quick witted remarks to reporters such as: How
did you find America? Turned left at Greenland. While Paul s rebellious side is
evident in the train scene when a fellow passenger tries to take away their music,
Yeah, but we want to hear it, and there s more of us than you. We re a community,
like, a majority vote. Up the workers and all that stuff!
While it was HDN that helped merge The Beatles youth audience with a more
adult crowd, thanks to the mature verite style aesthesis, it was the dramatised film
Help! (1965) that fully actualized their Rock rebel personas in correspondence
with Laurence Grossberg s notions of consumerism and mobility in relation to
Rebel image. (Grossberg; 1992) While there were several scenes of transport and
mobility shown in HDN, such as the train scene, it lacked the overindulgence of
commercialism that embodies the Grossberg s Rocker; they were the working class
boys next door who became famous, yet kept their iconic polished image of the
average man. In Help! this image is shattered when we see behind the ordinary
facades of
Marjane Satrapi s Persepolis
The zeitgeist of 20th century Iran was nationalism. From the establishment of a
constitutional monarchy to the ongoing struggle against foreign invaders, it has been
a tool utilized by ideologues to further their own agendas. In Persepolis, a young
Marjane Satrapi asserts the metaphorical truism, The revolution is like a bicycle.
When the wheels don t turn, it falls. Each revolutionary was able to gain momentum
by pedaling away from imperialist exploitation and domineering but then sought to
pedal the wheels towards the direction where their respective interests lie, and in turn
immobilized the bicycle, causing it to fall. Just as nationalism can be used to
overthrow a dictator, it can also be used to empower one.

who, with the assistance of the British, overthrew the corrupt Qajar dynasty and was
appointed shah (king). Propelled by the gust of nationalism that had emerged in
response to foreign takeover and domestic tumult, Reza worked to curtail outside
influence, reform and modernize the country. Nevertheless, he ruled with an iron fist
that ultimately led to his downfall, coming to be severely detested by the populace,
succumbing to fascist sympathies during WII, and being forced to abdicate in 1941.
Though his son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Shah) inherited the throne, Reza s real
successor was Mohammad Mossadegh, a statesman of tremendous passion who
would come to represent Third World nationalism and go down as one of the most
popular figures in Iranian history. Two central beliefs shaped Mossadegh s political
consciousness. The first was a passionate faith in the rule of law, which made him an
enemy of autocracy and, in particular, Reza Shah. The second was a conviction that
Iranians must rule themselves and not submit to the will of foreigners. (Kinzer 53) It
was in 1949 that Mossadegh, a vocal member of the majlis, formed and became
leader of the National Front, an umbrella organization dedicated to fortifying

Battle Of Crete Research Paper
The Battle of Crete took place from May 20, 1941 to June 1, 1941 on the
Mediterranean island known as Crete. Strategically important to both British and
the Germans because of it s location in the middle of the Mediterranean, Crete
controlled a useful harbor, Suda Bay, and multiple airfields that were advantageous
to the war effort. At the beginning of the battle, Crete was occupied by the
Creforce, made up of 29,250 British, Australian, New Zealand, and Greek troops.
Command of Creforce was given to Bernard Freyberg, a British general. The
German invasion was code named Operation Merkur and was supposed to be the
final step in the German effort to secure Eastern Europe. The Germans used 22,750
combat troops with 10,000 of those troops... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the climax of the battle, Hitler had called for every reserve the Luftwaffe
possessed to be thrown into the battle to capture the airfield. The Battle of Crete
took not only a physical effect on the German forces but also served as an extreme
psychological setback. After the experience with Crete, the Germans only
reinforced the belief that marching and driving was a great deal better than trying
to swim of jump. After Crete, the Germans never used airborne troops in mass
again, instead this strategy would fall to the Allies on D Day. Psychologically,
Hitler considered the days of German paratroops over and his willingness to use
them in large capacity was wiped out. According to Gerard Weinberg, German born
American diplomatic and military historian: No large scale airborne assault was
ever attempted again by the Germans in WWII, it was not the Allies who would
use airborne attacks. As mentioned earlier, Hitler was intimidated by the losses at
the Battle of Crete but the Allies were still willing to use paratroops even after
watching the huge losses suffered by the Germans. Because of his failure with
paratroops, it is possible that Hitler was surprised by the paratroop landing at D
Day for he never thought that any other power would risk the losses he had
suffered at the Battle of Crete. With Russia as the German s true priority, the Battle
of Crete which took place just a few weeks before the Germans went into Russia
caused unexpected and crippling losses for the Germans. There was a view in some
quarters that the invasion of Greece and Crete delayed the start of Barbarossa and
ultimately cost the Germans the prize of Moscow. While this drastic result seems
unlikely, many historians have speculated upon the possibility that the
How Does Temperature Affect The Height Of Basketball
Based on the surface a basketball collides with, it does affect the height of the
bounce of the basketball when dropped from one meter. In this case the surfaces
that we investigated were a table top, the classroom floor, grass, pavement, and dirt.
The average height of bounces for each of the surfaces that were tested was the table
top with 60 cm, the classroom floor with 66.4 cm, the grass with 63 cm, the
pavement with 68.8 cm, and the dirt with 71.4 cm. The type of surface the basketball
was bounced on affected its height because when a basketball bounces off of a
surface, some of its energy is absorbed by that surface. More energy is absorbed by
some surfaces more than others. A soft surface, such as the table top, absorbs more
energy when
Student Behavior And The Impact On School Culture Essay
Student Behavior and the Impact on School Culture Researchers have examined the
relationship of student behaviors and the negative impact it has on a school
environment. Teresa Capra (2009) examined the effect of poverty and its hindrance
on any attempts at educational reform. Since its inception in 2001, the No Child Left
Behind Act of 2001 has created an educational climate obsessed with teacher quality
that is tightly correlated with student achievement in pursuit of closing the
achievement gap. As a result, there is an overwhelming increase of teacher turnover;
especially in impoverish communities (Capra, 2009). The findings argue that No
Child Left Behind should shift from the increased testing, impossible restrictions,
cycles of curriculum change, and repackaged legislation to the treatment and the true
acknowledgement of the poor (p. 77). Legislators must recognize must admit to the
economic disparities and its impact on society (Copra, 2009). Jensen (2013)
investigated the factors that challenge academic success in relation to children in low
socioeconomic environments. Many children possess emotional and social stability
that are raised in poverty. Many behaviors exhibited are acting out behaviors,
impatience or impulsivity, gaps in social graces, limited range of behavioral
responses, inappropriate emotional responses, and lack of empathy. (Jensen, 2013) As
a result, many behaviors that are exhibited by students, especially those of low
socioeconomic status,

required to watch for activity on many screens. Some of the advanced frameworks
accessible will permit the client to program what range of the CCTV picture ought
to be checked and give alerts to the people observing when there is action in point
of the CCTV picture (Hayes Downs, 2011). For instance, a CCTV camera can be
placed to monitor an asset that is situated in an area with many pedestrians. The
objective is not to monitor the individuals passing close to the asset, but the focus is
on the people who turn and move towards the asset. The CCTV system can be
customized with the end goal that it sounds an alarm when a pedestrian moves from
the normal path and approaches the asset. Different systems will permit individuals
to get alarms when a person turns and walks towards the asset, a new asset added to
a particular area, or the asset is moved. In the previous example, the movement of an
asset from its allotted area will trigger an alert from the system and furnish the
personal checking with the important action before the activity took place. The other
component demonstrating when an asset has been added in an area uses a similar
innovation and has turned out to be mainstream with security units hoping to be
alerted in case suspicious objects are left in the places of their duty (Damjanovski,
2014). They get an alert when a package is left
A Short Note On The Air Corporation s Essay
aled Air Corporation s From:Russel Jay Eserjose Re: Leveraged Recapitalization
Date:10/29/16 1. a. Sealed Air is a company that manufactures and distributes a
variety of protective packaging materials and systems. It was founded in 1960 and
has grown rapidly throughout its first 25 years of business. During 1987 and
1988, it became apparent from a performance side that management needed to
focus on the manufacturing component, which historically was neglected in favor
of marketing and sales. Although their revolutionary and significant products have
gotten them to where they are, the company was reliant on their old ways causing
a causing efficiency and external problems. When inspecting the efficiency ratios
of Sealed Air from 1987 to 1988, the collection period increased from 58.24 days to
61.36 days interpreting that it is taking longer to collect credit sales from their
distributers. This expresses a negative sign from business partners. Sealed Air s
inventory turnover ratio went from 6.37 to 6.36 showing no dramatic change, but
shows that the company sold more goods than held inventory due to the fact a
customer will pay for it. Lastly, their payable day s ratio went from 39.56 to 38.69.
Again, not a significant change, but shows that Sealed Air s distributors aren t
waiting to receive payments. Their profit margin from 1987 to 1988 decreased about
1%, but in 1989, increased about 1.5%. Sealed Air s operating performance has
remained stable from the periods
Paganism Vs Neopaganism
When people hear the word pagan some get scared but others are intrigued. Perhaps
it was the time period that people would born into weather it was a an accepted term
or it was not. Weather it was what type of paganism were people being drawn too.
Paganism is envisioned from different perspectives due to the effect of different time
eras, the comparison of historical to neopaganism, and the way that society views it.
Paganism is viewed in many different perspectives around the world. While some
people highly advocate that paganism is earthly based and life fulfilling, others
believe that paganism is associated with the devil and witchcraft. Harvey Graham
states that Pagans are inspired in their quest to understand and celebrate the natural
world by a wide range of literature, including botanical treatises, ancient epics,
archaeological reports, and fantasy fiction. (par. 5). Pagans believe in life fulfillment,
they want to live their life to a full extent. They are very invested into themselves and

They believe that Wicca is associated with the Devil Cunningham explains that
many neo pagans, including Wiccans, have adopted the pentagram as a symbol.
This symbol consists of a circle with a five pointed star inside, with the tips of the
points touching the circle (par. 11) This symbol can be commonly connected to
association with Satan. This symbol is one of the reasons why some people are still
against Wicca. Another concept that people are weary about is the fine line between
sorcery and witchcraft. Smith and Green says The lines separating witchcraft form
sorcery are not clear from one society to the next or from one observer to the next
(1132 1133). Society does not fully understand the difference between the two. Some
might say that although they might seem similar they are different and other might
say even though they are different words they still have the same
Explain The Etiological Models Of Schizophrenia Essay
Explain the etiological models of Schizophrenia.
Genetic o Schizophrenia runs in families higher rates in 1st degree relatives,
especially if both parents schizophrenic, but those who suffer from schizophrenia are
unlikely to reproduce o Heritability determined by concordance rates in twins, about
28% in monozygotic twins but only 6% dizygotic twins o Adoption studies confirm
likely genetic component and show higher rates of schizophrenia in biological
families o These family studies show that although there is a genetic component,
other factors influence schizophrenia as well o Chromosomal/gene mapping has not
been able to identify a specific gene or chromosome for schizophrenia o May be
linked to chromosome 6
Physiological o Eye movement dysfunction
Eye tracking dysfunction frequently seen in schizophrenic patients
Poor smooth pursuit eye tracking most common dysfunction, (instead of smoothly
following the track of moving objects, schizophrenics exhibit jerky eye movements)
Represents genetic marker of vulnerability to schizophrenia o Inhibition of event
related potentials
P50 phenomenon related to responses to auditory stimuli seen in many
schizophrenics and their blood relatives
Inability to inhibit certain responses may be source of various schizophrenic
symptoms (distractibility, confusion, hallucinations)
High P50 abnormality patients have larger deficits in attention and score more
severely on assessment of negative symptoms
May be linked to
Essay About Work
Work can cause many issues with oneself and society. There can be a inner
struggle in someone if they don t like their job. Society can cause the discussion of
jobs to become a controversial topic. In the poems Lady In The Pink Mustang by
Louise Erdrich, The Restaurant Business by James Tate, and So Mexicans Are
Taking Jobs From Americans by Jimmy Santiago Baca, the authors use divisions and
conflicts to make readers see a bigger picture.
In the poem The Lady in the Pink Mustang by Louise Erdrich the speaker tells the
story of a women in a pink mustang whos job seems to be working as a prostitute.
Erdrich wants the readers to get a sense that the women does not care much for her
job but continues to do it. It can be understood that ... Show more content on

None of these poems have a hidden meaning and each author had a significant way
of showing the meaning. Erich and Baca follow the template of poetry. Whereas,
Tate uses the template of poetry in story form. In all of these works readers can find
that the speakers have an argument. In The Lady In The Pink Mustang the speaker
explains in the end that she is not proud of her job but she has to make a living
somehow and until she runs out of money she will do what she has to. In The
Restaurant Business Tate parallels to Erdrich by having the restaurant owner pose
the argument that though he works for his own sadness, if he choices to leave the
business he loses his seat of having a title and even though he hates to work that s
the only bit of happiness he has left. Lastly the speaker in Baca s poem constructs a
real life argument and turns the whole piece of work in a political poem by
arguing the discussion of jobs in America. All of these works show that work is
hard but it is real and sometimes it is not a realistic job and not everyone will agree
with the job title or job

Childhood Innocence Is Veiled By Joy And Ignorance

Childhood Innocence Living in an Adult World Childhood innocence is veiled by
joy and ignorance while the hardships of adulthood are incoherent to the imagination
of children; as seen in the troubling world around kids as one of bliss rather than that
of worry as an adult. Children s views on the real world are easily manipulated but the
outside sources that are in their everyday lives. These sources come from the
environment around them, such as problems that adults suffer relating to stress,
relationship struggles, job security, and happiness of their family. The unknown
problem that children seem to have masked over them is the importance of reality

The father had paid, the collectors are gone, the lights are back on and the family
can be thankful. The emotion range in the house is high as one can image the stress
of low income can bring. The joy of the child is felt, as the joy of the members in
this house were as well with the stress of deadlines have been met. The good times
were coming and the good times are here. The dialect of this poem is another
connection to this family and the child, as well as the community they are apart of.
Scholar Joyce Johnson writes in her article titled The Theme of Celebration in Lucille
Clifton s Poetry , her response to this poem. The emotion in this instance is jubilation
and the sense of celebration associated with the good times that come by way of
small triumphs in the community dwellers battle to survive (71). Her quote ties in
joy, celebration, and community that all overlap into the importance of this poem.
Johnson writes further, ...those who fail to recognize the measure of good times in a
culture and community they don t understand (72). Those in the community know
the struggles it takes to make a living and provide those happy times for their
children. The last lines of the poem tie in the final conclusion to Clifton s thoughts as
oh children think about the good times (1016) settle the overall understanding that
children care for the positivity of a situation.
The English Patient By Michael Ondaatje
In times of war everyone has suffered some sort of loss. It creates great
unhappiness and gloominess in the people affected. The only way to overcome
these dark times is through great love and embrace from the people around you,
the people who care for you. Hana, a nurse in one of the most gruesome eras of our
existence, has seen and been through it all. While at the villa she tries and make
everyone s stay, as pleasurable and positive as possible. Hana takes great care of the
English patient and listens to all his stories. She falls helplessly in lovewith Kirpal
Singh; she is a light in his dark times. Hana also gives a new found hope to
Caravaggio after he lost his thumbs, his only tool. In the novel The English Patient by
Michael Ondaatje, Hana s character brings out the best in the people around her
through caring relationships.
The English patient is bed ridden and cannot do anything for himself. He needs
morphine to survive and without Hana he would have been dead a long time ago.
She cares deeply for the English patient and takes care of him from morning till night.
One of the few things that bring AlmГЎsy joy in these dark times are story s being
read to him and him telling stories to others. Hana makes sure that she listens and
reads to him, because this will make his day less miserable, she is brining out the
best in him. She feeds him and cares for him like if it was her own sick father. It is
like a father daughter relationship. Hana lost her father to the

The main objective of the study was to understand the general influence to people

From the researches, it is common wisdom that uninsured adults reported overall
health, compared to the individuals who were enrolled in medical insurance facilities
like the Medicaid. They are less likely to report multiple health conditions. However,
the reason behind the number of uninsured individuals reporting less issues of
hypertension is the fact that most of these issues go unnoticed. These conditions were
more likely undiagnosed and uncontrolled. The research found out that about 80% of
the uninsured adults had an uncontrolled condition, compared to the 63.4% of the
insured adults. This shows that technically, uninsured adults had more issues with
hypertension, only that they were not diagnosed and their conditions are not
Fire Rooster Research Paper
A good way to ring in the Year of the Rooster is to play two amazing Chinese New
Year slots. One is Chunjie from Endorphina and the other is Fire Rooster from
Habanero. Both games have amazing Chinese themes and bonus features.
Bitcoin owners will get the chance to take these two slots for a spin. Fire Rooster is
available in BetChain since the casino offers other Habanero slots. Bitcoin casinos
like PrincessWin might also have Chunjie slot available in the near future.

The tale is about how the rooster loses its crown to the dragon because of the
Centipede. The Rooster Lament fits the upcoming Chinese New Year since the tale
took place at a time when the Jade Emperor was choosing which animal to represent
a year.
Habanero s Fire Rooster has a number of symbols that references the tales. This
includes the rooster, dragon, and centipede. The slot also has a good mixture of gold
and red colors which are common in many Chinese New Year decorations.
Fire Rooster s bonus feature is the Rooster scatter mode. During this mode, players
receive a number of free spins. If bettors can get the Rooster to appear in any of the
reels, it will randomly convert any symbols adjacent to it into a wild symbol. There
is a potential for a large payout if there are more than three roosters during the bonus
feature.
The Fire Rooster also has a progressive jackpot feature. The prize amount of the
jackpot increases as more and more people play the game. Winning the progressive
jackpot can occur at random and during any mode of the
The Consequences Of Globalization
The Effects of Globalization Globalization is communication among the people,
businesses, and governments of different countries. It has caused massive changes to
the world because of all the downsides that is has. Globalization is currently a
controversial issue because some people think it s a good thing, but some people
think it s a bad thing. It means something different to everyone. The consequences of
globalizationhave been mostly bad because lower skilled workers got lower wages,
had to work more, and had poor working conditions. Also, it causes environmental
devastation and health issues. Although globalization can be bad, it can also be
good because everybody involved can be developed even if their countries are
losing jobs because of the developing world. The consequences of globalization
have been mostly bad because lower skilled workers had to work more, got lower
wages, and worked in poor conditions. According to The True Cost film, the
garment workers in Bangladesh make $2 per day. This shows that the workers
there are paid very little even though they work in poor conditions. Also, according
to The True Cost film, garment workers in Cambodia took the streets to demand a
wage of at least $160. This also shows that workers are paid very little and clearly
want a higher minimum wagebecause of it. Also according to The True Cost film, the
Rana Plaza factory collapsed and hundreds died. This happened because the building
was structurally unsafe. This
An Analysis Of Baby Kochamman In The God Of Small
Things
An antagonist can be defined as someone or something that is put in the story to
oppose the protagonist or to cause problems that need to be overcome. Throughout
the story, every character in one way or another causes problems, as the story
emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The Orangedrink Lemondrink man could be an
antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes him. Ammu
and Velutha could be antagonists because if they hadn t had the affair then maybe
Velutha wouldn t be dead and the children wouldn t have been separated and
maybe, just maybe, Sophie Mol wouldn t have drowned in the river. Chacko could
also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the house which eventually results in
the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular, Baby Kochamma,
in every part of the story, not only does she cause problems, she causes problems for
everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for
Velutha, for the police, and even makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually
leading him to force Ammu to leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the
characters in the story into doing what she wants to get herself out of trouble.
Foreshadowing the main conflict and also the climax in The God of Small Things,
Baby Kochamma says, in relation to Velutha, That man will be our nemesis (Roy
175).
When Velutha s father shows up at the family house to tell Mammachi that Ammu
and Velutha had been seeing each other, Baby
The Environmental Impacts Of A New Crude Oil Pipeline
Crude oil, possibly the most important natural resource in today s industrialized
nations, is utilized in many different ways. From Gasoline and Diesel to waxes and
lubricants, this versatile resource has become the most popular source of energy
among most nations. A new Crude oil pipeline has been proposed by TransCanada
that will transfer oil from Alberta, Canada to a few major oil refineries in the
United States. The Keystone Pipeline has garnered support from many Americans,
but it has also been the subject of much criticism from others. A major portion of
the pipeline referred to as the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would run through
Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska, is currently being proposed to the United
States Congress. If built, the new pipeline will create new risks as well as rewards
that need to be considered when congress decides to approve it or not. Whether or
not this proposal should be accepted is being debated by many scholars and experts
from the field as well. Their research will be explored here and will focus on the
environmental impacts, economic impacts, and the energy security that might result
from the implementation of the Keystone XL Pipeline. ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPACTS The Keystone XL Pipeline will carry a special type of crude oil known as
Bitumen, or more commonly, Tar Sands. The transportation of Tar Sands is
considered much more dangerous than traditional crude oil transportation. Because of
the added risk involved, environmentalists have taken
Jealousy And Vengeance In William Shakespeare s Othello
In William Shakespeare s, Othello, the play introduces a falsely perceived character
by the name of Iago. After Othello s unjust decision of not promoting Iago as
lieutenant, Iago generated an immense amount of hatred for Othello, leading to Iago
s atrocious revenge on Othello. Although Iago took his revenge to extreme measures,
he was simply getting vengeance on Othellofor swindling him out of his promotion,
therefore Iagos revenge occurred as a direct result of Othello s decision. Iago s hatred
of Othello doesn t only come from Othello s decision, but also jealousy. Iago
expanded on his disagreement with Othello s decision when he says One Michael

The Modern Era Of Car Safety
Contents
Introduction:
Cars have revolutionised the mode of transport for humans and since their first
invention in 1885, they have had an incredible revamp to them. Some of these
factors include speed, design, and durability, but even so these ever changing
evolutionary changes came with a price, safety. With the modern era of car
development the necessity of car safety has been one of the most demanding
dynamics in car design as of the 20th century. To understand and improve the safety
of cars, a vast knowledge of multiple physics concepts are required.
Newton s 3 laws of motion give a great testament to forces acted upon a given object.
His three laws are:
1.First law of motion, The law of inertia : Every object in a state of uniform motion
tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it (Newton
s three laws of motion, 2001). This law states that if an object is moving at a
uniform speed, it will not stop unless an external force is applied to it.
2.Second law of motion (F = ma): The relationship between an object s mass m, its
acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are
vectors in this law and the direction of the force of the vector is the same as the
direction of the acceleration vector. (Newton s three laws of motion, 2001) This law
concludes that the force is determined by its mass and acceleration. It also shows that
Force and acceleration are the

The difficulty lies in the subjective nature of what constitutes a "good" theme, as it is contingent upon individual perspectives, cultural contexts, and evolving societal norms. Firstly, identifying universally appealing themes that resonate across diverse audiences poses a significant challenge. What might be compelling to one person may fall flat for another. The essay writer must navigate through this labyrinth of subjectivity, attempting to strike a balance between uniqueness and relatability. Furthermore, the task demands a keen understanding of the target audience. Is the essay intended for a scholarly community, a general readership, or a specialized group? Tailoring themes to suit the preferences and expectations of the audience adds an extra layer of complexity, as the writer must carefully gauge the level of depth, complexity, and relevance required. Research becomes a crucial aspect of the process. Unearthing themes that are not only intriguing but also supported by credible sources is an intricate dance. It involves scouring academic journals, literature, and contemporary discourse to ensure the themes chosen are not only captivating but also grounded in substance. Crafting a coherent narrative around these themes is another challenge. The essay must flow seamlessly, connecting ideas and themes in a logical progression. This necessitates a profound understanding of the chosen themes, their nuances, and their interconnections. Balancing depth with clarity is an art that demands honed writing skills. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Good Themes For Essays" is a nuanced endeavor. • 3. Descriptive Essay On Getting A Dog There s one dream that all children have in common, getting a dog. I was once one of those children. Fourth grade me, wanted...needed to have a dog. I would do or say anything to make my parents give in to my obsession. Unfortunately, I was the second youngest out of five kids and my parents had grown a strong backbone through experience with the others. But I knew, with the help of my siblings and my adorable ten year old charm, I would have a fair chance of winning this battle. I knew this because at the end of the day, every parentwants to see their child happy, even if that means getting a dog. The first step to getting a dog, or getting anything I wanted, was to convince my dad. I ve always been my dad s little girl , and I knew his soft spots. I remember little ten year old me walking up to my dad s office and knocking on the door. Peaking my head in, my dad put his finger to his mouth telling me to be quiet, then ushered me to walk in. I knew he was on a work call but I sat on his lap anyway. This was my first move. The second was waiting until he hung up on the work call, then casually asking him about his day. Once I knew he was softened up, I would ask him about the dog. Hey Dad... I hesitated Uh oh, what do you want? He could tell by the tone in my voice. Why don t we have a dog? I could hear him trying to stifle a laugh when he realized I was serious. Because your mother and I don t have time to take care of a dog. Here s my opportunity, What if I

  • 5. Advantages Of Linear Dynamic Analysis 1.3.2Linear dynamic analysis = for tall buildings, buildings with torsional irregularities, or non orthogonal systems, a dynamic procedure is required. In the linear dynamic procedure, the building is modelled as a multi degree of freedom (MDOF) system with a linear elastic stiffness matrix and an equivalent viscous damping matrix. Linear dynamic analysis is carried out by two methods: Response spectrum method Elastic time history method The corresponding internal forces and displacements are determined using linear elastic analysis. The advantage of these linear dynamic procedures with respect to linear static procedures is that higher modes can be considered. However, they are based on linear elastic response and hence the applicability... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In nonlinear dynamic analyses, the detailed structural model subjected to a ground motion record produces estimates of component deformations for each degree of freedom in the model and the modal responses are combined using schemes such as the square root sum of squares. The non linear properties of the structure are considered as part of a time domain analysis. This approach is the most rigorous, and is required by some building codes for buildings of unusual configuration or of special importance. However, the calculated response can be very sensitive to the characteristics of the individual ground motion used as seismic input; therefore, several analyses are required using different ground motion records to achieve a reliable estimation of the probabilistic distribution of structural response. Since the properties of the seismic response depend on the intensity, or severity, of the seismic shaking, a comprehensive assessment calls for numerous nonlinear dynamic analyses at various levels of intensity to represent different possible earthquake scenarios. This has led to the emergence of methods like the Incremental Dynamic

  • 10. Three Types of Friends Essay A friend is defined as someone emotionally close or somebody who trusts and is fond of another. The affect that a person one calls his or her acquaintance can sometimes be very deep and heartfelt. From my experience, I have encountered three types of friends: the chronic complainer, the staller, and the know it all. A chronic complainer is a he or she that is fault finding. Chronic complainers choose to blame someone else or something for his or her actions. Also, they are uncertain about what should be done. He also dose not get his important business handled; he likes to sit around and wait until the last minute or until it s too late before he tries to do anything about a situation. This is not someone who you would want helping you with some very important job. Last but not least is the know it all. The know it all acts superior and makes others feel stupid. They also maybe bullheaded and impatient; know it alls really don need or want any help. One of my closest friends is a prime example of a know it all. She knows everything that is discussed and want let anyone else put there say so in about the topic. • 11. Bicycle Thief Essay The Bicycle Thief The Bicycle Thief is probably the best known and most highly praised of all the Italian Neorealist films of its era. The films of the Neorealist movement were characterized by several primary ideas. Instead of featuring stories focusing on glitz and glamour, Neorealist films focused on the poor and the working class. Instead of building and fabricating complex sets to film on, they did their filming on location. And instead of trying to get the most well known, highly paid celebrity actors, they frequently used people that weren t even professional actors and had no training for their starring roles. Treatment Options For Excoriation Disorder Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder Sarah Rebecca Carter Auburn University School of Nursing Treatment Options for Excoriation Disorder Excoriation disorder, also known as skin picking disorder, is characterized by the frequent scratching or picking of the skin. Picking most commonly occurs in areas of the body that the patient can reach, such as the arms, inner thighs, face, fingers, and upper back (Turner, Sutton, Sharma, 2014). The incessant skin picking can cause physical and/or psychosocial damage, including scabs, scars, open wounds, infection, shame, embarrassment, and social isolation. Skin picking disorder is more common in females, with picking episodes lasting anywhere from five minutes to twelve hours per day (Gelinas Gagnon, 2013). Though excoriation disorder can occur on its own, it often coexists with other psychiatric issues. Patients who are diagnosed with excoriation disorder are often also diagnosed with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating disorders, and substance abuse disorders (Capriotti, Ely, Snorrason, Woods, 2015). Excoriation disorder is relatively common, but little research has been done to evaluate the best and most effective course of treatment to control and/or eliminate the disease (Oliveira, Leppink, Derbyshire, Grant, 2015). Due to the lack of research concerning skin picking disorder and the disease s effects on the mind and body, it is important for psychiatric nurses to familiarize themselves with both the

Tafoni weathering is a subtype of weathering that falls under hydration weathering and ultimately under the larger umbrella category of physical weathering processes. Also, the Santa Monica Mountains also undergo Aeolian processes during particularly strong wind activity such as Santa Ana wind events. Moreover, our primary focus area was restrained to about a 1 mile hike into the park and reached a large volcanic swimming hole. The swimming hole acted as a boundary, but there are a few observations beyond the swimming hole that also contribute to this weathering process. In a short distance beyond the swimming hole, there is a visible fault line. Within the hike, the first observable evidence of tafoni weathering was about 40 minutes into the hike. Passing a large rock archway, tafoni weathering was evident in the rock face of the archway as well as the side of the mountains beyond this point. In addition to larger mountains, tafoni weathering was also present in smaller hillsides. This particular type of weathering was also evident in the mountains overlooking the swimming hole. The tafoni weathering observed in the mountains around the swimming hole had larger cave like features than the mountains not directly touching a body of water. Discussion Presently, there are studies conducted to better understand tafoni weathering with several investigations and theoretical models but due to limited data available on temperature, moisture and salt regimes it is difficult to

Similarities Between Krapp And Waiting For Godot Chloe Martinez ENGL 3000 Professor Richard Joines 31 October 2017 Play Analysis Samuel Beckett s plays illustrate the concepts of existentialism, such as identity, authenticity, and anxiety. A primary idea throughout Beckett s plays is the character s need to do something in order to feel fulfilled. This provides a false sense of purpose, and some characters are aware that they are just going through the motions, whereas others are not. The two plays that I will be using to develop this idea are Krapp s Last Tape and Waiting for Godot, with Krapp representing the former type of character and Vladmir the latter. Include our innate need for companionship, which is shown in both plays, in Krapp s Last Tape through the lack of companionship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He maintains the facade that he is improving upon himself by making these tapes, but in reality he uses them to fuel his self pity. The scene is set in his office, which is completely dark, as is described in the tape from when Krapp was 39: With all this darkness round me I feel less alone. [Pause.] In a way. [Pause.] I love to get up and move about in it, then back here to [hesitates]...me. [Pause.] Krapp. He is incapable of feeling fulfillment in himself because the only aspect of his life he derives happiness from is his past, but this also makes him feel an intensely negative sense of nostalgia. In addition to Krapp s tapes showing no indications of self improvement in his mental health, they also show that his poor physical health has remained the same. When Krapp listens through his old tapes, the version of him in the present and the version of him in the past perform the same actions. For example, Krapp states in the tape that he has eaten three bananas and with difficulty refrained from a fourth, and which were bad for his health, and Krapp was eating a second banana while listening to the tape. Similarly, the way that Vladmir and Estragon try to find a sense of purpose is through their waiting in vain for Godot. They do this in spite of their uncertainty about the meeting place, the time, and

With all the social, political and cultural changes occurring in the 1960s, youth culture was embracing the ideologies of rebellion and counterculture. The Folk music of the sixties was giving way to the new Rock revolution and with this came the iconic Rock Rebel. The Rock Rebel is a romanticized existential figure who revolts against social conventions in a quest to find value or a sense of freedom beyond the pre existing conforms of society. (Camus; 1967) Through analysing, in a sociological context, the way the music industry utilized film to help create or reinvent star image of Rock icons The Beatlesand The Rolling Stones, we can see how the signifier of the Rock Rebel has evolved with the developing Rock culture. Similarly John also makes quick witted remarks to reporters such as: How did you find America? Turned left at Greenland. While Paul s rebellious side is evident in the train scene when a fellow passenger tries to take away their music, Yeah, but we want to hear it, and there s more of us than you. We re a community, like, a majority vote. Up the workers and all that stuff! While it was HDN that helped merge The Beatles youth audience with a more adult crowd, thanks to the mature verite style aesthesis, it was the dramatised film Help! (Grossberg; 1992) While there were several scenes of transport and mobility shown in HDN, such as the train scene, it lacked the overindulgence of commercialism that embodies the Grossberg s Rocker; they were the working class boys next door who became famous, yet kept their iconic polished image of the average man. In Help! this image is shattered when we see behind the ordinary facades of

From the establishment of a constitutional monarchy to the ongoing struggle against foreign invaders, it has been a tool utilized by ideologues to further their own agendas. In Persepolis, a young Marjane Satrapi asserts the metaphorical truism, The revolution is like a bicycle. When the wheels don t turn, it falls. Each revolutionary was able to gain momentum by pedaling away from imperialist exploitation and domineering but then sought to pedal the wheels towards the direction where their respective interests lie, and in turn immobilized the bicycle, causing it to fall. Propelled by the gust of nationalism that had emerged in response to foreign takeover and domestic tumult, Reza worked to curtail outside influence, reform and modernize the country. Nevertheless, he ruled with an iron fist that ultimately led to his downfall, coming to be severely detested by the populace, succumbing to fascist sympathies during WII, and being forced to abdicate in 1941. Though his son Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (Shah) inherited the throne, Reza s real successor was Mohammad Mossadegh, a statesman of tremendous passion who would come to represent Third World nationalism and go down as one of the most popular figures in Iranian history. Two central beliefs shaped Mossadegh s political consciousness. The first was a passionate faith in the rule of law, which made him an enemy of autocracy and, in particular, Reza Shah. The second was a conviction that Iranians must rule themselves and not submit to the will of foreigners. (Kinzer 53) It was in 1949 that Mossadegh, a vocal member of the majlis, formed and became leader of the National Front, an umbrella organization dedicated to fortifying democracy and limiting foreign influence. At the beginning of the battle, Crete was occupied by the Creforce, made up of 29,250 British, Australian, New Zealand, and Greek troops. By the climax of the battle, Hitler had called for every reserve the Luftwaffe possessed to be thrown into the battle to capture the airfield. The Battle of Crete took not only a physical effect on the German forces but also served as an extreme psychological setback. After the experience with Crete, the Germans only reinforced the belief that marching and driving was a great deal better than trying to swim of jump. After Crete, the Germans never used airborne troops in mass again, instead this strategy would fall to the Allies on D Day. Psychologically, Hitler considered the days of German paratroops over and his willingness to use them in large capacity was wiped out. According to Gerard Weinberg, German born American diplomatic and military historian: No large scale airborne assault was ever attempted again by the Germans in WWII, it was not the Allies who would use airborne attacks. As mentioned earlier, Hitler was intimidated by the losses at the Battle of Crete but the Allies were still willing to use paratroops even after watching the huge losses suffered by the Germans. Because of his failure with paratroops, it is possible that Hitler was surprised by the paratroop landing at D Day for he never thought that any other power would risk the losses he had suffered at the Battle of Crete. With Russia as the German s true priority, the Battle of Crete which took place just a few weeks before the Germans went into Russia caused unexpected and crippling losses for the Germans. There was a view in some quarters that the invasion of Greece and Crete delayed the start of Barbarossa and ultimately cost the Germans the prize of Moscow. While this drastic result seems unlikely, many historians have speculated upon the possibility that the

Student Behavior And The Impact On School Culture Essay Student Behavior and the Impact on School Culture Researchers have examined the relationship of student behaviors and the negative impact it has on a school environment. Teresa Capra (2009) examined the effect of poverty and its hindrance on any attempts at educational reform. Since its inception in 2001, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 has created an educational climate obsessed with teacher quality that is tightly correlated with student achievement in pursuit of closing the achievement gap. As a result, there is an overwhelming increase of teacher turnover; especially in impoverish communities (Capra, 2009). Throughout the story, every character in one way or another causes problems, as the story emphasizes that nobody is perfect. The Orangedrink Lemondrink man could be an antagonist as he causes Estha great emotional turmoil and traumatizes him. Ammu and Velutha could be antagonists because if they hadn t had the affair then maybe Velutha wouldn t be dead and the children wouldn t have been separated and maybe, just maybe, Sophie Mol wouldn t have drowned in the river. Chacko could also be an antagonist as he kicks Ammu out of the house which eventually results in the separation of the twins. However, one character, in particular, Baby Kochamma, in every part of the story, not only does she cause problems, she causes problems for everyone. Baby Kochamma causes problems for Rahel and Estha, for Ammu, for Velutha, for the police, and even makes Chacko more miserable and angry, eventually leading him to force Ammu to leave. Baby Kochamma continually manipulates the characters in the story into doing what she wants to get herself out of trouble. Foreshadowing the main conflict and also the climax in The God of Small Things, Baby Kochamma says, in relation to Velutha, That man will be our nemesis (Roy 175). When Velutha s father shows up at the family house to tell Mammachi that Ammu and Velutha had been seeing each other, Baby
  • 50. The Environmental Impacts Of A New Crude Oil Pipeline Crude oil, possibly the most important natural resource in today s industrialized nations, is utilized in many different ways. From Gasoline and Diesel to waxes and lubricants, this versatile resource has become the most popular source of energy among most nations. A new Crude oil pipeline has been proposed by TransCanada that will transfer oil from Alberta, Canada to a few major oil refineries in the United States. The Keystone Pipeline has garnered support from many Americans, but it has also been the subject of much criticism from others. A major portion of the pipeline referred to as the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would run through Montana, South Dakota, and Nebraska, is currently being proposed to the United States Congress. If built, the new pipeline will create new risks as well as rewards that need to be considered when congress decides to approve it or not. Whether or not this proposal should be accepted is being debated by many scholars and experts from the field as well. Their research will be explored here and will focus on the environmental impacts, economic impacts, and the energy security that might result from the implementation of the Keystone XL Pipeline. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS The Keystone XL Pipeline will carry a special type of crude oil known as Bitumen, or more commonly, Tar Sands. The transportation of Tar Sands is considered much more dangerous than traditional crude oil transportation. Because of the added risk involved, environmentalists have taken
  • 51. Jealousy And Vengeance In William Shakespeare s Othello In William Shakespeare s, Othello, the play introduces a falsely perceived character by the name of Iago. After Othello s unjust decision of not promoting Iago as lieutenant, Iago generated an immense amount of hatred for Othello, leading to Iago s atrocious revenge on Othello. Although Iago took his revenge to extreme measures, he was simply getting vengeance on Othellofor swindling him out of his promotion, therefore Iagos revenge occurred as a direct result of Othello s decision. Iago s hatred of Othello doesn t only come from Othello s decision, but also jealousy. Iago expanded on his disagreement with Othello s decision when he says One Michael Cassio, a Florentine, A fellow almost damned in a fair wife, That never set a squadron
  • 52. The Modern Era Of Car Safety Contents Introduction: Cars have revolutionised the mode of transport for humans and since their first invention in 1885, they have had an incredible revamp to them. Some of these factors include speed, design, and durability, but even so these ever changing evolutionary changes came with a price, safety. With the modern era of car development the necessity of car safety has been one of the most demanding dynamics in car design as of the 20th century. To understand and improve the safety of cars, a vast knowledge of multiple physics concepts are required. Newton s 3 laws of motion give a great testament to forces acted upon a given object. His three laws are: 1.First law of motion, The law of inertia : Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it (Newton s three laws of motion, 2001). This law states that if an object is moving at a uniform speed, it will not stop unless an external force is applied to it. 2.Second law of motion (F = ma): The relationship between an object s mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors in this law and the direction of the force of the vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector. (Newton s three laws of motion, 2001) This law concludes that the force is determined by its mass and acceleration. It also shows that Force and acceleration are the
