3. John A. Macdonald Research Paper
Renaming schools named John A. Macdonald Today s issue with schools named
after our first prime minister, John A. Macdonald may not be worth doing
something about but maybe having a good discussion about. Changing the names
of monuments and things named after historical figures from the past because of
racism is not ideal because of how things were and how people thought in the past
which cannot be judged by our present eyes but maybe, the reasons for their
wrongdoings could be well understood now for humanity to never make the same
mistakes and move forward into a better future where our past is understood and
respected but also seen both the good way and the bad way. In the past 2 months,
teachers in Ontario have started to ask and debate for the schools named after John
A. Macdonald to be renamed because of how racist he was towards the aboriginal
people. Although he may have been very racist, thoughts and actions from the past
are not right seen with our present mind. Additionally, John A. Macdonald, our first
and third prime minister and the one who led Canada to the confederation, was the...

Macdonald went through different times where the normal was different and so
was the extreme and you could say he was extreme in his doings and, his mistakes
may even outweigh his right decisions but it is not worth the time and money to
try in change the past by renaming schools. It was even stated by Sen. Murray
Sinclair that It is probably a fight, had I been asked, I would have said to avoid it.
and said by Justin Trudeau that there are no plans by the federal government to
change the name John A. Macdonald off of anything in our responsibility. because
although teachers and even some historians may say Sir John A. doesn t need a
school named after him to have his cruel legacy marked. He lives on in indigenous

decisions and the history of Canada which can never be
4. Identity And Identity In Coriolanus
He was a kind of nothing, titleless, /Till he had forged himself a name o the fire /Of
burning Rome (_______). In Shakepearse s play, Coriolanus, having a name is
strongly correlated to having an identity, thus if an individual does not have a name
he or she is nothing. Coriolanus is a prominent Roman war hero who had a strongly
developed sense of selfin the beginning of the play. However, as the play progresses
he falters and decides to become dangerously independent, not even wanting to
accept the name given to him by his mother. He continually changes his name and
identity throughout the play. Coriolanus rejects Rome s societal norms and
establishes his own virtues that he lives by. This method of thinking ultimately led
to his banishment from Rome, which also pushed him into forging for himself a
new name. I can relate to Coriolanus struggle to find a name for himself. I feel that
the name given to me by my mother holds no identity in and of itself. Rather, it is
the choices that I make in my own life that will determine what that name will come
to represent. Coriolanus first name, given to him at birth, was Caius Marcius.
Initially, Caius Martius was a strong military general who was confident in his role in
society. As a military general, he made fighting against the Volsces his number one
priority. Due to his overwhelming dedication to his country, Caius Martius was gifted
with the powerful title of Coriolanus. As Herald proclaims, Know, Rome, that all

5. Andrew Marvell, “to His Coy Mistress”
Andrew Marvell, To His Coy Mistress In To His Coy Mistress the speaker carefully
constructs a subtle and logical argument as to why his addressee should sexually
unite with him. The speaker attempts this proposition through finesse in manipulating
reason, form and imagery. The reasoning employed would be familiar to a reader
educated in Renaissance England, as it is reminiscent of classical philosophical logic,
entailing a statement, a counter statement and a resolution. In line with this method
Marvell s speaker codes his argument in classical imagery. To understand this
argument I will be approaching the poem in three clearly defined sections, which are
denoted in the poem with indented lines. The first of these section... Show more

The next section runs from lines 21 to 32, here the speaker moves away from the
hypothetical to reality but retains the melodramatic language used in the previous
section to sustain the tenacity of his points. Time here is portrayed as chasing the
speaker as opposed to being something the speaker is in control of as in the end of
the last section. This is done using the image of a winged chariot (l.22), this has
classical associations with Greek mythology which relates to his form of argument.
The meter of the poem is restrictively regular, this structure emphasises the idea that
time is constantly progressing; reflecting the speaker s argument. Space is no
longer inhabited by images of movement and life like the rivers previously
mentioned but instead: before us lie / Deserts of vast eternity (ll. 23 4). The desert
has strong connotations with deathliness, an issue that the speaker gruesomely
develops upon and progresses within this section. The speaker implies on lines 26 7
that the only exploration of the mistress s body that will be undertaken will be by the
worms that are decomposing her body if she remains in her coy state. This thought
that her sexuality should not be wasted is elaborated upon with a crude pun on line

explains in the footnote, is a play on the Middle English noun queynte which means
female genitals. These images of
6. Refugee Act Of 1980 Analysis
Marco Rubio states, When was the last time you heard news accounts of a
boatload of American refugees arrive on the shores of another country? White
House s Tanya Somanader describes the peril of the refugees as, Your home country

ve lived all your years. So what happens when one day, without warning, or without
cause, that sense of security is ripped from you? War, violence, persecution for who
you are or what you believe; your home has become the crucible for your greatest

The United States is continuing to play a cautious role in this refugee crisis, by
providing lots resources, but in turn, are accepting very little refugees. Currently,
many aid groups and at least 14 senators have called on the United States
government to take in more refugees. These decisions were based on after viewing
gruesome images of what Amanda Holpuch of The Guardian calls ...a three year
old boy s body lying face down in the surf of Turkey. This boy, along with his older
brother (5) and his mother died while reaching Europe. The Journeys taken on by
these refugees is very dangerous and treacherous. In a 2014 report by the
International Organization for Migration, which is an intergovernmental group,
stated that the Mediterranean Sea is one of the most dangerous ways to cross a
border. It s rough waters has caused hundreds of refugees to be making a risky
journey in suffocating ship holds and

8. Gender Roles Are Becoming Increasing More Malleable
Gender roles in society are becoming increasing more malleable. The younger
generation is less inclined to follow the same roles that their parents and
grandparents followed. In Disney s Brave, the main character, Merida, is a perfect
example of this. She doesn t follow the traditional girly norms that princesses
usually reflect, she is wildly defiant toward her mother, especially in regards to her
betrothal, and she doesn t even want to be a princess, which is something rarely
seen. Merida does not follow the typical gender roles of a princess. She doesn t like
dresses, she doesn t want to follow the rules, and she isn t into typical princess
things, such as looking nice. When her mother makes her wear a tight fitting dress
to the competition for her hand in marriage, she is completely uncomfortable in
the restrictive item of clothing. She then rips her dress in order for her to properly
shoot her arrows in the competition for her hand. She outshoots all three of her
suitors, causing her mother to become furious. Her mother, the queen, is outraged
that Merida has brought disrespected to her and the kingdom. Merida does not care
about the possible shame she has brought to the kingdom. She will not allow
herself to be forced to marry a man that she does not want to. These acts
demonstrate her defiance, which is not generally the trait of a princess, unless it is
directed towards the father. Merida s defiance is more so directed at everybody. Due
to this, she is not one to
9. Kerocak History
Throughout history, many times certain characteristics of different types of music are
associated with specific cultures thus, making it authentic or traditional to that
specific subgroup or culture. The history of Balinese dance drama Kecak shows that
the word traditional , in reference to music, is not concrete. This is demonstrated in
the United States with the authentic blue grass folk musictransformed into a modern
approach of country music.
The dance drama Kecak is not in a sense authentic to the Balinese culture. It is
customary for dances to be accompanied by the instrumental music of the gamelan.
The Kecak however, is set to the rhythm of a chanting chorus called a gamelan suara.
The chants that go along with this performance ... Show more content on

The gamelan belengajur is most often used in rituals and sacred ceremonies, such as
cremation.
Throughout history, the United States has adapted music based on the introduction of
new instruments and techniques to this part of the world. Country music and blue
grass folk music, is generally associated with traditional American music. A heavy
southern accent disassociates the timbre of a country artist s voice to the timbre of
other genre of music artist s voices. The United States is one of the only places with
regions that have this distinctive quality of voice. The use of banjos, fiddles, jug
drums, and whistles, are common instruments that can be heard throughout this style
of music.
That being said, today s country music is not authentic or traditional in the slightest.
Artists many times incorporate pop styles of music, which is often catchy, melodic,
and have a sort of digital creation to it. The traditional blue grass folk music is very
uncommon to hear unless sought out. American country music that plays on the
radio, often does not even use the traditional instruments one would associate
country music with. Instead artists use electric guitars, percussion drum sets, and
digital editing to get a more country pop vibe to a song. Instead of keeping country
music to how it originally was supposed to be, it has been adapted to please the

What geographical location should be a target to global expansion and background
information to support the decision (expansion to China).
Over the past quarter of a century, China has experienced big changes as the economy
has transformed from just limited private sector into manufacturing base of the world,
these rapid development and transformation become the gateway to vast opportunities
for all industries of the world (Dyer Singh, 1998); China regional cities offer diverse
of business opportunities to companies around the world for businesses to expand
into China.
Recent research reveals China has about thirty five most lucrative cities for business
investment depending on the industries of operation, it was said that there are
challenges in business regardless of location, in China for example, integral to
business growth is cultural issue as well as intellectual property protection, but with
meticulous planning, research, and strategy, these issue can be effectively minimize

The size of China is considered an issue of population, but is a market advantage
with a market potential of 1.5billion people, the nation is set to become the 2nd
largest consumer market in the world by 2015 (NBSC), government influence in

13. The Nicene Creed Essay
The Nicene Creed is the creed or profession of faith that was adopted in the city of
Nicaea by the first ecumenical council, which met there in the year 325. At that time,
the text ended after the words We believe in the Holy Spirit , after which an
anathema was added. The doctrine of the Trinityis commonly expressed as: One
God, three Persons , but this word Trinity does not appear in the Bible. So the
doctrine is formally defined in the Nicene Creed, which declares Jesus to be: God of
God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one
substance with the Father. in 325, the Council of Nicea set out to officially define the
relationship of the Son to the Father, in response to the controversial teachings of...

Even during numerous exiles, Athanasius continued to be a vigorous defender of
Nicene Christianity against Arianism. Athanasius then famously said Athanasius
against the world . The Cappadocian Fathers also took up the torch; their Trinitarian
discourse was influential in the council at Constantinople.Up until about 360,
theological debates mainly dealt with the Divinity of Jesus, the 2nd person of the
Trinity. However, because the Council of Nicaea had not clarified the divinity of the
Holy Spirit, the 3rd person of the Trinity, it became a topic of debate.
The council affirmed the original Nicene Creed of faith as true and an accurate
explanation of Scripture. This council also developed a statement of faith which
included the language of Nicaea, but expanded the discussion on the Holy Spirit to
combat the heresy of the Pneumatomachi. It is called the Nicene Creed of 381 and
was a commentary on the original Nicene formula. It expanded the third article of
the creed dealing with the Holy Spirit, as well as some other changes. About the
Holy Spirit the article of faith said he is the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds
from the Father, With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified . The
statement of proceeding from the Father is seen as significant because it established
that the Holy Spirit must be of the same being as God the Father.
ESSAY 3
The second and third century African theologian Tertullian took exception to this
widespread doctrine.
14. Tungto Cobalt Heteropoly Cell Essay
Abstract Recently, we reported a completely new all tungsto cobalt heteropoly acid
redox flow battery (RFB) with a high coulombic efficiency and promising prospect.
Because of the relatively large size and high negative charge, the tungsto cobalt
heteropoly acid anion is difficult to cross Nafion membrane, thus necessiating the
need to employ thinner ion exchange membrane. In this study, the effects of the
thickness of the membranes on the battery performance were investigated. Three
types of Nafion membranes with different thicknesses, namely, 50 Ојm (N212), 25
Ојm (N211), and 17 Ојm (home made N 17), were investigated in all tungsto cobalt
heteropoly acid RFBs. The ion permeability and area specific resistances of the

Specifically, an aqueous redox flow battery with a tungsten cobalt heteropoly acid
(H6[CoW12O40]) as the electrolyte for both the anode and cathode has been
demonstrated in our previous work [15]. The working principle of all
H6[CoW12O40] RFBs is shown in Scheme 1. In aqueous solution,
H6[CoW12O40] molecule dissociates to H+ and [CoW12O40]6 as a strong acid.
During the battery charging and discharging process, the cobalt in [CoW12O40]6 is
oxidized or reduced reversibly at positive electrode, whereas tungsten is reduced or
oxidized at negative electrode. H+ moves through the IEM as the charge carrier. The
electrochemical reactions of the RFB are as follows:
At anode:
CoⅡW12O406 ↔ CoⅢW12O405 + e φ0= 1.103V vs. SHE(1)
At cathode:
CoW12O406 + 2e + 2H+ ↔ H2CoW12O406 φ0= 0.074V vs. SHE(2)
H2CoW12O406 + 2e + 2H+ ↔ H4CoW12O406 φ0= 0.191V vs. SHE(3)
Scheme 1. The working principle of an all H6[CoW12O40] RFBs. The
[CoW12O40]n is drawn in ball and stick notation. (Charging: Anode: WVI→WVI/V,
Cathode: CoII→CoIII, H+ transfers from anode to cathode; Discharge: Anode: WVI

[CoW12O40]6 anion has relatively large size and high negative charge, making it

15. Prince Hal Character Analysis
When one thinks of a leader who takes a risk, they usually picture someone who is
already in power and has to risk losing everything to better themselves, the people
they re leading or both. However, this is not the case for Prince Hal. Prince Hal
takes significant risks before even being in a position of ultimate power. In order to
become the best version of himself and Henry V, Prince Hal must risk his reputation
and his closest relationships. In Henry IV, the audience sees Prince Hal start as a
wayward royal son who has fallen into the behavioral pattern of a degenerate. He
spends his time at bars and brothels with people who are of a much lower; if not the
lowest; social status than himself. Hal s own father has little faith in his son, even
wishing that he had a son more like Hotspur, and leaves the people of England with
the lowest standards of how Hal will do when he becomes king. Since Hal is the
only person that knows he is only doing this in order to educate himself on the type
of people he will be leading, Hal knows he is putting his entire reputation on the
line. From the very beginning of Henry IV, Prince Hal tells the audience that he
will one day shed the cloud that his low class friends have cast on his reputation to
emerge as a glorious king and impress his followers all the more. While Hal s
reputation is redeemable, the relationships that he risks are just as important. When
Hal becomes friends with the people who engage in this bar life, he is doing it
16. Brahms’ “Wie Melodien” Op. 105 Essay
The lyrics for Brahms Wie Melodien Op. 105, No. 1 are from a poem written by
Klaus Groth. It is a poem that never clearly states its true meaning. Instead, it
arouses an emotional feeling of one dreaming about something from the past. And,
these emotional feelings are expressed in Groth s poem through a variety of
images. The poem begins with using melodies as an image. In the first phrase, Like
melodies draw it to me softly through the mind, the word melodies seems to be
symbolic of thoughts or memories. These melodies are like a tune that you cannot
get out of your head, a memory that he is unable to forget. In his next phrase, Like
spring flowers blossom it and floats like a scent away, he uses the... Show more

However, it is not a bitter loss. Instead, the memory of that love continues to remain
with him like a sweet fragrance. Groth s reference to a moist eye also seems to
symbolize how the memory of this lost love continues to remain fresh (moist
referring to something fresh in difference to stale) in his eyes. And at the same time,
moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it brings
tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture
and express this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one
of the poem s images is in m. 41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting
an image of how a tear might fall. Another example where the vocal line supports
the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it floats like a scent
away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice
here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first
statement, as it fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase.
This echo that fades away supports the images in the text of floating away and
vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in expressing the poem s imagery.
Most of this Lied is quarter notes in the voice with eighth notes in

18. The Importance Of Alexander The Great Gatsby
Throughout history and daily life, many figures become labeled as great.
Alexander the Great stands the test of time to be a common example of being
titled great . Alexander the Great receives his title of Alexander the Great from his
progression and achievements he made, such as becoming king at the age of twenty.
Gatsby fits into the role of being great in Nick s standards due to the fact he does
align with the definition of great, which states, of an extent, amount, or intensity
considerably above the normal or average (The Oxford American College
Dictionary). Gatsby shows that he remains more than an average person, may this be
his jump into luxury, the presentation of himself or his image, and the change Gatsby
brought to the people around him. Among all of his flaws, Gatsby proves himself to
be great in many different aspects and circumstances of life.
While Jay Gatsby s life does not form immediately upon success, Gatsby forms
himself into an influential man living in luxury. The identity of Jay Gatsby
replaces James Gatz at the slight hope and incessant need to be an icon. Gatsby

Choosing a baseball bat can be quite a difficult task with all the options out there. I
ve been a baseball coach for many years and in the recent years, I ve noticed that the
golfer syndrome has been present in baseball.
Golfers syndrome is when golfers think by purchasing the newest clubs, they re
going to improve. Many golfers don t get to practice too often for many reasons, so
they believe spending hundreds of dollars on each club will solve their problems.
Many youth baseball players have caught onto this syndrome and have similar
beliefs. They re all caught up on the technology, but they ve become too dependent
on this. The best way to improve is to keep on practicing and the bats won t matter as
much. After several studies in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I rarely notice a difference with the bats. At most, there s a 5% difference between
the newest bats and some older ones. However, if you re using a 2009 model instead
of a 2010, the difference is fractional!
After studying my batters performance for years, I ve noticed that the heavier bats
are better options. Buy the heaviest bat your child can handle, while still swinging
with speed. Little League rules require the diameter of the bat to fit within 2
inches. Most 10 year old players should be within 29 32 and 7 to 10 oz from the
length chosen. Most of my 12 year old players use bats around 32/25.
If you re son is good enough that he ll eventually play college ball, he ll have to use a
bat that is BESR approved. BESR does tests to determine the speed of the ball from
the release of the bat. Almost all BESR bats are created equally, so as they get older
it s important they get use to these types of bats.
There are a ton of bats to choose from. Instead of splurging on the newest and most
expensive model, get the model from last year for 50% off (usually on sale). Spend
the extra money on some batting practice because form is more valuable than a

PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL
Performance appraisal is essential to understand and improve the employee s
performance through HRD. It is viewed that performance appraisal was useful to

indicate that performance appraisal is basis for employee development. A
performance appraisal is a systematic and periodic process that assesses an

21. The War Of The United States
It is fair to refer to the United States as the stray seed of Great Britain s Earlier
Empire, yet even with this relationship their executive leaderships and institutions are
vastly different. Like an abused child, the United States vowed to, and successfully
created a system of governing completely different from the monarch they were
previously ruled under, giving birth to a presidential systemthat would become the
leading example of political democracy.
On July 4th, 1776 the thirteen original American Colonies Declared Independence
from Great Britain s Empire a year into the Revolutionary war of 1775 1783. With
Victory, the founding fathers of the United States drafted a system in which the
American people had the power and responsibility to select their leader. As they wrote
the Constitution, the framers gave the office only limited powers. They wanted a
strong executive leader who could deal with emergencies such as those involving
other nations, but also could not dominate the U.S. government. Which is a
fundamental of effective democracy. They gave the presidentenough power to check
and balance Congress but not enough power to overrun Congress.
The British monarchy on the other hand traces its origins back to early medieval
Scotland and Anglo Saxon England, which with time become the kingdoms of
England and Scotland by the 10th century AD. In 1066 Harold II, the last crowned
Anglo Saxon monarch, was defeated and killed during the Norman conquest of
England. As a
22. An Analysis Of The Rivals And Malapropism
Spoonerisms and Malapropisms Spoonerism, derived from Rev. Dr. William A.
Spooner (1844 1930) famed for slips of the tongue, is the transposition of sounds
particularly the initial consonants of two or more words. Usually, in effect,
spoonerism is comical since it is done accidentally. Meyer et al. (2002) explain that
What we learn from slips of the tongue with regard to psycholinguistics is that we
obviously start speaking before we have plannedhow to finish our very first sentence
and that planning seems to start with a rough outline of the sentence structure which
eventually filed with lexical items while speaking has already started. The latter is

23. The Half-Skinned-Steer
The story The Half Skinned Steer by Annie Proulx could be classified in the
Return to the womb arch type. It fits that unit theme very well, mainly because the
main character in the story, whose name is Mero, returns to his place of birth and
childhood almost sixty years later. The one major event that leads him back home
is the death of his brother Rollo. Mero had left the country out by Cheyenne,
Wyoming to go and live in New York City. Over that time he had grown to become
a fairly rich man. He had everything that a man could possibly ask for at that place
in time. He had a Cadillac, a cellular phone, lots of money, and a nice house.
Although he wasn t very successful in his marriages because he was married several
times, he was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the names in the story could give some hints of black humor that gives them
meaning. The names Tick Corn and Tin Head are two that really stick out from the
beginning of the story. Louise was Tick Corns wife. Tick corn was Rollo s son and
had been helping them run the ranch out in Wyoming. She phones Mero in the
beginning to tell him that Rollo has died. When Mero hears her name he recalls the
bloated gray insects pulled off the dogs. He also thinks that this Tick was going to
get the whole damn ranch and bloat up on it. This is another example of how the
black humor is evident throughout the whole story. It adds a lot of things to the story
and makes it more enjoyable and you want to keep reading to find out what will
happen next.
Proulx s characters also play an important role in the story. Her characters are
representative of the kind of people that she grew up around. The Wyoming people
have certain attitudes and are funny characters. This is where the black humor
comes into play. Mero is a smart, wealthy, eccentric, unfaithful, self made man.
Then there is his dads girlfriend that s in her mid 20 s, while he is in his 60 s. The
girlfriend is also very pretty. We know that the girlfriend has a teasing, center of
attention kind of personality. The reason we know this is because after she tells the
story about the half skinned steer Mero goes to bed and he can t sleep. We assume
that he has the girlfriend running through his mind and

Lauren Oliver once said, Find the things that matter, and hold on to them, and fight
for them, and refuse to let them go. Despite the fact that Lena is taught that love is
a disease and is forbidden, she falls in love anyhow. She comes to realize love is all
that matters; that love is something you hold onto, fight for, and never let go of.
Delirium is a story that teaches a valuable life lesson that holds true even for today s
teenager: following your heart can set you free. In the novel Delirium, the author
uses conflict to teach us that following your heart can set you free. For example,
Lena is trying to acquiesce that she is in loveand that the government has deceived
everyone. The government coerced her to believe that love was

we want the child to be engaging in... define it in just a few words) A replacement
behavior refers to the alternative individual s conduct that enables students to achieve
a similar level of outcomes as the undesired conduct they use at the present. For
instance, when a student working of math assignment fails to complete and sleeps on
the desk. The educator s response is to sit with the understudy, endeavoring to de

In this scenario, find an example of ABC data collection even though it isn t called
that in the story. An ABC Chart is an immediate perception apparatus that can be
utilized to gather data about the occasions that are happening inside an understudy s
situation. For instance, an understudy who is drawing pictures as opposed to taking
a shot at his class task may respond by reviling or tossing his pencil when his
educator instructs him to complete the errand (In Kats IGI Global, 2017). The
educator may find verbal solicitations to work and different requests are forerunners
that trigger issue conduct.
7. Write a behavior objective for the maladaptive behavior. For instance, if the
youngster fits to abstain from doing work, you can show them to ask for a break.
On the off chance that they have a fit of rage at work time it is imperative to make
them do a portion of the assignment.
8. Write a behavior objective for the replacement behavior. A behavior objective for

This a situation whereby one partakes to do things after being denied the opportunity

Introduction
A tort is a civil wrong resulting in injury to a person or property ; that is brought
before a court to compensate the injured party (Bagley amp; Savage, 2010, pg 251).
In order to prove an intentional tort, the following conditions must be met: 1) Intent
2) Voluntary act by the defendant 3) Causation 4) Injury or Harm.
The following tort cases, Pearson v. Chung and Liebeck v. McDonalds, have been a
pinnacle poster child for tort reform in the United States. In 2002, frivolous lawsuits

The amount Mr. Pearson was seeking for relief was $67 million dollars, since that is

This essay will compare and contrast the Biblical creation myths with other creation
myths from Greece and the Ancient Near East. It will first discuss the initial creation
of the universe followed by the creation of mankind and finally the recreation of man
whilst drawing parallels to Sumerian and Babylonian texts, The Old Testament and
Hesiods Theogony. In paying particular attention to the chronology of each myth it
will be shown that the creation myths regarding the universe and mankind evolved
from as far back as the Sumerian stories.

Although there are echoes of Mesopotamian and Greek creation myths all through
Genesis, especially the order in which creation transpired, all three also represent the
universe as a three tiered dome including heaven, earth, and the underworld.
However, the differences are also plentiful. Both the Greeks and Sumerians
/Babylonians believed in a polytheistic monarchy whereas the Israelites (particularly
after their exile from Babylon) adopted a non pagan retelling focusing on a single
gods omnipotence , however through much of Genesis 1:1 31 we find the LORD
addressing another presence; Let us make man in our likeliness . evidently their was
some difficulty in the complete abortion of a polytheistic belief system when
evolving the new creation story.
The monotheistic creation of the universe is accomplished by separating each part
into its place to fulfill its function (for example; the moon and sun) whereas all
polytheistic myths involve another deity being created, usually through the union of
two others, to represent the different parts of the physical universe or in some cases,
like the great Babylonian goddess Mammu Tiamat being split into two to form the
earth and the heavens, the god and the physical object created are one and the same .

reasons that sustained her transition into the activist. Throughout her childhood, she
was taught about social norms that could not be broken by blacks if they wanted to

30. The Ethics Of The Sarbanes Oxley Act
Question 1 Throughout history and in our own time, legitimate accounting methods
have been utilized to fraudulently engage in manipulating activities that results in
illicit gains to the perpetrators and losses to individuals and financial institutions. The
most common accounting fraud is the misrepresentation of financial statements
which is frequently known as cooking the books and includes manipulation,
falsification, or alteration of accounting records, intentional omission from the
financial statements and intentional misapplication of accounting principles relating
to amounts, classification, manner of presentation, or disclosure. In addition,
associated with the misapplication of accounting methods, the financial industry has
been plagued with one disaster after another involving numerous scandals from top
leading American companies. Consequently, the Sarbanes Oxley Act was passed in
2002 compromising eleven sections that are generated to insure the responsibilities of
the company s managers and executives. This act identifies criminal penalties for
particular unethical practices and currently has new policies that a corporation must

the women did chores such as weaving and cooking. They were dependent of their

Sparta, the women had rights that no other Greek women had. They were stronger

The Confederate flags have been around with the US since the mid 1800s when
the South split from the North. Slavery and Racism has been poison to the citizens
of America ever since and we ve been trying to get rid of it for the longest of times.
The statue of confederate soldiers have been here for a while too. The flags radiate
hatred all over the US while the statues truly represented white supremacy. Three
reasons why the Confederate flag and statues should be removed from the south are
that many Southern folk believe the Confederate statues and flags is a part of
southern heritage when it is not, Southerners believe it s actually right to always
show free speech on what they believe in, and they don t care for the opinion of
others who live there that see the flag as something that radiates hatred and darkness.
First of all, the statues and flags are a great way of remembering the past and the
people of the past, but it stops people from pursuing their happiness. For example, if
they saw something they didn t like in the public, they d report it to the authorities.

Generally they have difficulty staying on task, organizing, and scheduling tasks.
They have trouble following through with tasks assigned to them even if they are

They also tend to lose things, sometimes more than once in a single week. It often
appears that they are not listening. Other symptoms include fidgeting, squirming
blurting out answers and interrupting others when they are talking. Most adolescents
that have ADHD have been diagnosed earlier in life. For those who present

According to the U. S. Census Reports, interracial marriages have more than tripled
between 1980 and today. There are currently 1.6 million interracial marriages in the
United States, and that figure is continuing to grow (Duru, 2012). Statistics show that
over 70% of American society has no problem with mixed racerelationships, and 40%
of Americans have already dated someone of another ethnicity. For the most part
relationships between people of different races are no different from the interactions
between people of the same race(Duru, 2012).
In the early years interracial marriages was illegal in the United States. The biggest

Almost all interracial families encounter racism, but they often benefit from dealing
with tough problems. A lot of the relationships go unnoticed because couples are
afraid that family members and friends will disapprove. Secret mixed race romances
often occur because the parents are strict and forbid or discourage dating outside of
one s culture. Parents are often the perpetrators of stereotypes and racism; they force
their children to date within their culture, in order to avoid betraying their own
cultural roots. The color of one s skin should not determine who the fall in love with.
Although there are a lot of discriminations against interracial couples, the acceptance
of these couples along with the acceptance of their children is beginning to evolve.
Some Americans do not mind the idea of interracial marriage but when children
are involved the issue changes. Children of interracial couples are often treated
differently. People do not accept biracial children in society because they do not
know how to treat them. Most people feel that they have to place the child in one
race or the other no matter how the children see themselves. Many children are
pressured by their peers to choose one race and stay with it. In extreme cases, there
are reports of mixed race children being slung into lockers, or beaten up in school
bathrooms or parking lots because they do not conform to a single racial identity
(Burrello, 2004). Parents

MPO Assignment 1
The Practices in human resources management have changed in the post bureaucratic
era.
In this essay I am going to argue that human resources will be maximised through a
hybridization process using pre existing bureaucratic mechanisms in conjunction with
post bureaucratic practices. The overarching argument at hand is to determine
whether these practices have changed for the better or the worse with management
taking on post bureaucratic methodologies. In section one, I draw on Schuler s (1992)
philosophy of human resources in conjunction with the relationship that ties human
resources to bureaucratic and post bureaucratic forms of control, according to Barley
Kunda (1992), Bridgman, Garcia Lorenzo McKenna (2010) and ... Show more

Summarising my overall arguments in the conclusion, I exemplify the idea that a
balance of bureaucratic and post bureacratic workflows will ultimately lead to human
resources being maxamised to optimal potential in accordance with the writings
Clegg Courpasson (2004) and Clegg, Josserand Teo (2006).
Schuler (1992, pp. 21) states the philosophy of human resources, relates to the role
that human resources, otherwise known as human capital, play in the overall
success of a business. This leads to the overarching objective of human resources
management being to first and foremost, maximise employee performance. Since the
1980s, a range of ideas indicating a shift of workplace practices to a post
bureaucratic standpoint has become more present. Barley Kunda (1992) define the
movement away from bureaucratic forms of control as a decrease of detailed rules,
routines, and scripts guiding day to day work, that is, rational forms of control. On
the other hand, post bureaucratic practices carry humanistic values of autonomy,
responsibility, flexibility, confidence, and trust that encourages people to be
empowered and take on responsibilities (Bardon, Josserand Villeseche 2012). The
core ideals of managing human resources in the post bureaucratic era will stem from
this values. Ultimately with Western developed nations
38. Beowulf And Greed
In Beowulf by John Gardener and The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, greed and envy
play an omnipresent role, as it manifests itself into the societies of the texts, resulting
in acts of war. Each text utilizes similar methods in their depiction of greed, whereas
their stances on battle seem to differ. Throughout the course of the poem, Beowulf,
the writer maintains a fairly positive attitude towards the idea of war and battle in
general. Influences from the Anglo Saxon culture, such as fighting to the death and
electing a king through success in battle are key components in the text. However,
the latter half of the poem shifts views, as it is acts of war that eventually kill
Beowulf. Grendel acts as a supporting text of Beowulf, as it provides... Show more

Characters such as Unferth act as a mouthpiece for the writer of Grendel, as he
represents the heroic ambition in all warriors of the time. During the Anglo Saxon
period, if one was to retreat from battle as a coward, they would be faced with an
array of retribution. Unferth was well aware of this standard of the time, as it is
shown in the scene where he refuses to retreat from Grendel s home, even when in
the face of death. Instead of retreating from battle to spare one s life, warriors were
taught to believe only in remaining in battle and defend their people. If one was to
perish in battle, they would be forever remembered as a heroic being. When
Unferth is on the brink of death, he explains such notion to Grendel, telling him to
kill him so that he may die as one of the most worthy, at the hands of the beast.
Quote Grendel responds to this by threatening to take him back down to the mead
hall, and action that would ironically humiliate Unferth. Another scene where this
notion of kill or die trying is seen in one of the latter scenes in the poem. In an
attempt to slay the dragon for terrorizing his people, Beowulf heads to his lair, but
when confronted by the beast, all of Beowulf s warriors cower in fear and flee. As
a result of their actions, Beowulf perishes in battle, and they are heavily
reprimanded. It was believed that not only were Beowulf s men failing to meet
their oath to protect Beowulf himself, they also broke God s will, for if they were to
die in battle, that would be their fate. Although Unferth may show great pride in
protecting his people, the overall mood of his encounter with Grendel is rather anti
heroic, as it makes him seem inferior to the beast despite his

40. Social Inequity In Canadian Residential Schools

Human rights are considered to be inborn freedoms of every person, regardless of
nationality, status, gender, ethnicity, colour, religion or language. Although human
rights can be acknowledged as a multitude of things depending on ones subjective
perspective, one can draw a conclusion and state that that all persons should be
treated with respect and dignity. However, what usually poses the problem is the
application of these norms. The overlapping of social identities and the supremacy of
one over another might cause different ways of inequity. This example of such
intersectionality can be observed in the Canadian residential schools where the
indigenous people were subjected to forced Christianization.
In 2008, Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a formal apology to Canadian
Indians many generations of which were forcibly placed in boarding schools. The
Government has recognized that this policy of assimilation was a mistake and
should have never been carried out. The boarding schools became known as a place
where the indigenous population was subjected to forced assimilation. They did not

However, it was the measures that violated the basic human rights. Often, the children

mother. Then she said, Tomorrow we will go to school and give it back to whoever
this money belongs to. Tomorrow came and there we were, in the Principal s
office. I remember the reaction of the Principal. She was crying like a river,
kissing my mother, and thanking her over and over for her honesty and the great
example she was to me. At that the moment I understood why she wanted to give
the money back. It belonged to the Principal who put the folder on my desk, while
she was giving the last minute announcement the day before. I had been in a hurry
and I shoved the folder in my back pack by accident. My mother never told me that
what we did was called honesty. We never talked about the incident. I learned by her
example what the right choice was, and it changed my life forever.
Shakespeare once said, Honesty is the best policy. If I lose my honor, I lose myself.
From his quote, it is clear that Shakespeare thinks honor is more important than
anything else in life. Honesty is a virtue that is uniquely valued by human beings as
well by our Heavenly Father. Being honest often requires courage and sacrifice,
especially when others try to persuade us to justify dishonest behavior.
Being honest ha Pros and Cons and some of them are the following:
Pros:
People respect you and trust you. They know you are a person with integrity.
People want to be your
42. Negative Effects Of Wild Animals
Not only do zoos cause physical damage to animals, but also, they cause mental
and emotional issues in wild animals. After all animals do display signs of
consciousness, so they do have feelings about being locked up in displays and
cages around the clock. Recently, a group of animal researchers signed a declaration
proclaiming that animals are self aware. Alex Halberstadt s article called ZooAnimals
and Their Discontent stated, The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness in Human
and Nonhuman Animals was signed by a group of leading animal researchers in the
presences of Stephen Hawking. It asserted that mammals, birds, and other creatures
like octopuses possess consciousness, and in all likelihood, emotions and self
awareness. Several animals remember and feel emotion, so leaving them in a box all
day seems slightly torturous. Humans should have empathy for the contained
animals. It turns out common shore crabs feel and remember pain, zebra flinches
experience REM sleep, fruit fly brothers cooperate, dolphins and elephants recognize
themselves in mirrors, chimpanzees assist one another without expecting favors in
return, and dogs really do feel elation in their owner s presence (Halberstadt). These
feelings sometimes have some dangerous effects, as animals can and do act out
against their aggressors.
When wild animals kept in captivity act out against captivity, they develop unusual
symptoms known to experts as zoochosis in some cases. The article Zoos on
43. Effectiveness Of Reading Comprehension Strategies
This paper focuses on two major concerns: the effectiveness of reading
comprehension strategies and the effectiveness of professional development. There
has been a great amount of study and writing on both topics. In addition to these
subtopics, the topic of reading inventories will also be explored with regards to the
Scholastic ReadingInventory and the use of these tools in evaluating comprehension
in reading.
Reading comprehension strategies. Throughout the history of reading education, there
has been extensive research on phonological awareness and phonics. More recently,
educational theorists have also recognized and researched the need for instructing
students in the use of comprehension strategies in reading (Muspratt, Luke, Freebody,
1997). Block, Gambrell, and Pressley (2002) state The message is clear the most
important thing about reading is comprehension (p. 3)
Reading comprehension is the process of acquiring meaning from written text (
Block, Gambrell, Pressley, 2002, p. 4) and is an interactive process involving the
reader, the text, and the context (p. 5). While there are many ideas on the most
effective way to teach comprehension skills, most agree on a few basic skills that
students should know. Keene and Zimmerman (1997) identify 7 key comprehension
strategies: making connections, visualizing, questioning, inferring, synthesis,
problem solving, and deciding what is important. Making connections involves the
use of the reader s schema,
