The Similarities And Differences Between The Empires Of...
The Roman Empire was from 200 B.C.E to 200 CE located in Rome, now called Greece. And there is
the Persian Empire that lasted from 553 B.C.E to 330 B.C.E, which was located in Iran, north of the
Persian Gulf. Even though the empires thrived during different time periods, they both had a well built
and expanded empire and how they treated people. At the same time, they also had very opposing
ideas of who was in charge of the empire and how they ruled the government. Other differences, were
that the two empires believed in contrasting religions and how it spreads to another region. Although
different, both beliefs had the support of a government. There are many differences between the
empires of Persia and Rome. The empires had different views

Employee Teacher Reflection
Portfolio
It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective
practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that being
reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to state that
one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional values and
ideas.
It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical incident
from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four approaches of
analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and Personal Theory
Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is important to identify what
a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are shaped by the way we look at a
situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation of the significance of an event (p.
8).
The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and
Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the pupils
were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language.
Incident
My critical incident occurred in the last week of my placement. I was teaching a sequence of Literacy
lessons to a class of 27 students. The objective of the

Research Paper On Liquid Latex
From the data we collected, it is clearly shown that by day 9 liquid latex preserved the most mass in
the pig foot. While the foot harbouring liquid latex only lost 77.9g of mass in 9 days, alcohol lost
90.3g, formalin lost 91.6g, oils lost 87.6g, and phenol lost 129.3g. Expectantly, almost every
independent variable lost less mass than the control, which lost 127.2g. However, the unexpected
greater loss of mass in the leg containing Phenol may prove that there was experimental error in one
of our final measurements.
In addition, the results were not completely expected. Due to the new research on using plastic as a
preservative, we hypothesized that liquid latex would be the most effective at delaying decomposition.
When using plastication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It performed more efficiently than phenol, alcohol, and oils but not as well as liquid latex. This result
could have been due to the fact that the formalin was not pure because it was previously utilized for an
unknown amount of time. Formalin has strong dehydrating and oxidizing agents. Its purpose is to be
used as a disinfectant, a germicide, and it fixes/preserves tissue cells. Additionally, it combines with
proteins, inactivating them, and kills them. It preserves efficiently due to the fact that it penetrates
deep into the tissue, kills present bacteria, helps prevent future bacteria, and assists with retaining the
tissue structure (Mercer County Community College, 2016). In our experiment, it lost about 14.13%,
or 91.6g of its original mass while liquid latex lost 13.81% , phenol lost 19.05%, oils lost 14.46%, and
alcohol lost 17.00%. In other words, it was a close second but not quite as advanced as liquid latex.
The last measurement of formalin was recorded to have lost 14.13% and finish with a mass of 549.95g
compared to 640.45g. With this knowledge we feel that the formalin could have potentially been more
effective if we had used unused formalin.
Concluding our experiment, it was apparent that liquid latex achieved maximum use at delaying the
mass loss of the foot. Formalin performed fairly decently while oils only had moderate success and
quality. On the contrary, phenol and alcohol performed indecently and lost much more mass in
comparison with liquid latex which had more efficacious results.Whether or not the data was skewed
from maggots, incorrect calculations, or ineffective materials, the results convey a fairly reliable
source of facts and statistics based on

Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight
Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is a collection of short stories about
the lives of the people who live on the Spokane Indian Reservation. The central protagonist of the
story is Victor Joseph who we see in many short stories and thus see the plight Native Americans go
through in modern day America. The novel shows us the many trials that the people of the Reservation
go through and addresses the many serious problems that modern Native Americans face, such as
racism, alcoholism, poverty, limited educational opportunities, and being geographical isolated.
Ultimately the state of affairs that the modern Native American race goes through stems from the
historical events of European colonialism as well as modern day popular culture.
One of the major problems that modern Native Americans face are the Americanization or white
washing of their culture. This is caused by technology as well as the isolation of the reservation
compared to the outside world. Still, Indians have a way of surviving. But it s almost like Indians can
easily survive the big stuff. Mass murder, loss of language and land rights. It s the small things that
hurt the most. The white waitress who wouldn t take an order, Tonto, the Washington Redskin (The
Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven E Book Chapter 5). This passage gives context to the book
s title. Tonto was a character from the very old and popular 1950s radio and television series The Lone

Debt-To-Equit Ratio
As observed in the graphical representation, there is definitely a clear difference in the value of Debt
to Equit ratio for Aveva inc as compared to that of Drax plc. The financial performance for Aveva as
can be seen on the figure above show a consistent results in every single year, with only FY 2014 205
showing a little rise which can be attributed to the uncertainties in stock markets as a result to
slowdown that was experienced in China and the Asian countries. Drax Plc has had a rise in its DE
ratio continuously. An investor would be interested in the potential of a corporation in terms of its
financial performance and potential for getting the best return for their investments. In 2011, all was

This then indicates that, the equity ratio is about 59% on the capital structure. This shows that, the
equity value was more than the dept. However by the end of 2015, the dept ratio for Aveva was 0.54,
which then translates to 54% of dept versus equity, which will be 46%. In this scenario, the borrowing
exceeded the value of the company equity thus impacting on the market value of the company
negatively. The best case scenario, Aveva investor should consider investing more on the equity and
reduce the dept that the company is facing, this can then redeem the value of the company and thus
possibility realizing stable financial performance in future, Drax group Plc on the other hand, has
experienced drastic compression of its equity value. As of the year 2011 the company was faced with a
dept ratio of about 0.54. This failed to reduce, and instead went higher and as at the end of 2015, the
company dept ratio was about 1.02. This simply means that, the company dept is higher than the
company s value, therefore financial distress in future is highly likely for Drax group

Bernard Malamud The Natural Essay
Everyone has a passion in life. Whether it s gardening, teaching, designing clothes, or whatever else it
may be, everybody lives for something. For Roy Hobbs in Bernard Malamud s The Natural, his
passion is baseball. Roy lives, breathes, and loves baseball with all of his heart, mind, and soul. Roy,
wants more than anything to be the greatest baseball player to ever play. The problem with this is life
is not easy. Nothing ever goes exactly as planned. Malamud puts Roy through phenomenal stress and
adversity on his journey to accomplish his goal of being the best. The Natural is easily relatable
because it s not just a baseball book, but a book about the adversities in life, and the willingness one
has to overcome.
Without heroes, we are all plain people and don t know how far we can go (Malamud 154.) This quote
perfectly describes Malamuds intentions when creating the character Roy Hobbs. Malamud grew up in
a time when baseball utterly dominated the sporting world, and Malamud grew up where baseball
players were heros (An Interview with Bernard Malamud). Baseball players were seen as larger ...

should be proud that he overcame what he did, but he can t change what happened. And since he can t

Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince
Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The Apology.
Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of turmoil where
the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods cause the views and
purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of
turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain
power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more cynical and pessimistic in comparison to
Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince, he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem
his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but
from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and
publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and
effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince
should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just
having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable
to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot
start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because
Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune.
However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy.
Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna.
Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected
figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased
remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. Although
Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so he is a figure that is

Literary Techniques Used in a Very Old Man with Enormous...
Literary Analysis: A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings In the story, A Very Old Man with
Enormous Wings, writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez intertwines the supernatural with the natural in an
amazing manner. This essay analyzes how Marquez efficiently utilizes an exceptional style and
imaginative tone that requests the reader to do a self introspection on their life regarding their
responses to normal and abnormal events. Marquez sets the tone of the story with an occurrence that is
unusual and unsolicited: a newborn caught in bad weather. The introductory writing style is striking as
Marquez gives a hint of the bad weather: The world had been sad since Tuesday. (Márquez 13) He
introduces a supernatural element by describing a bizarre old man with massive wings. He shatters the
assumption that angels are powerful and divine by describing the old man stuck in the mud as,
...impeded by his enormous wings (Márquez 13) and unable to free himself. Marquez uses irony as an
element of tone to show the reader that the wings, which were supposed to aid the man, are now his
source of anguish. It is evident when a woman, having concluded that the peculiar old man was an
angel, decides to put him to death by bludgeoning. Marquez utilizes ironic wording in describing the
actions of the couple who felt noble after their decision to put the old man on a raft with food and
leave him to his fate on the high seas. (Márquez 14) In sections of the story, Marquez s tone indicates
regret.

Polis Aristotle
Aristotle contends that achieving human happiness and well being is impossible without living in a
city because human beings are political animals and therefore politics is an elemental part of the good
life. Aristotle bases this claim off of the argument that politics and city formation is a natural part of
being human because humans have an inherent impulse to create associations and partnerships that
eventually evolve into political communities, or the polis. These partnerships arise first from two
individual s who need each other to survive (1252b) then to households which extend to become
villages (1252b16), to eventually fully formed self sufficient cities (1252b27). Aristotle s argues that
the polis is prior to all other partnerships (1253a20) because the partnerships are parts that make up
the whole, the polis, and therefore all humans are drawn to create and associate with the ... Show more

By virtue of establishing the partnerships as natural, Aristotle is successful in asserting that the
political is fundamental to human nature and in order for individuals to experience the good life they
must be members of the city (1253a20). To back this claim, Aristotle uses a metaphor of the city as the
body and the citizen as the limb and argues that comparable to the limbs separating from the body, the
individual is not self sufficient when separated from the city and therefore possesses a natural impulse
towards creating and remaining in the polis (1253a25). Furthermore, Aristotle supports this claim by
contending the one who is in need of nothing through being self sufficient is no part of a city and so is
either a beast or a god (1253a27). As a result, all individuals need the city to achieve the good life, and
if they do not need the city they are not

The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs And Jews
The conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews is a phenomenon that stems from the struggle over
land defined exclusively as a Holy Land by both groups. Their competing claim to this territory and
the constant struggle for exclusive political control has created irreconcilable differences. Jewish
claim over the land is based on a covenant made between God and Abraham and the need for haven
from the growing anti Semitism in Europe. Palestinian Arabs claims to the land are based on their
continuous residence in the country and the rejection of the notion that ancient kingdoms constitute
claims over land in a modern time. They believe that because Abraham s son Ishmael is the forefather
of the Arabs, then God s promise of the land to the children of Abraham include them as well.
Although the land of Palestine was inhabited by a range of individuals living in peace, the growing
tension from the Zionist group, as well as the influx of Jewish immigration created growing anti
Semitism, which led to the Jewish push towards finding a haven.
In the late 1800s, a group of extremist minorities of the Jewish population began to colonize what was
then Palestine. Known as Zionists, their goal was to create a Jewish homeland, a haven from the
growing anti Semitism. The Zionist ideology was based on the premise that the only solution to have a
viable Jewish community in modern times would be in Eretz Israel. Eretz Israel was the land in which
the identity of the Jewish people was

Id, Ego, And Superego In The Lady With The Pet Dog
In Joyce Oates short story The Lady with the Pet Dog, the main character, Anna, represents the Id,
Ego, and Superego characteristics defined by Sigmund Freud. Anna is facing her morals (Superego)
and feelings (Id), being confined to a marriage and detesting her affair. Because Anna is forced to
balance a failing marriage, and loving her husband, while also loving a man who s not her husband,
and not loving him because she can t, builds stress inside her and leads to rash desires and actions.
Anna displays Freud s Id characteristics throughout, the things she wants most are life and love. Anna
is in the middle of a dysfunctional marriage and starts an affair with another man. Her Id psyche is
prevalent when her husband says that he loves her, but she thinks about her lover saying ...if betraying
him (her husband) it would give her life a center (Oates 239). Anna s unconscious immature Id psyche
thinks that the only way for her to have a purpose in life is to be with her lover, only looking for
pleasure and not thinking about the consequences (McLeod). The Id is overlooking the common logic,
she is married and her lover is married too, which is morally wrong, overriding the Superego. Anna s
Id can be compared to that of a child s, like a kid at the store who asks his mom for candy, and when
she says no he decides to steal the candy. In contrast, Anna says ....of course she was married,
permanently married (Oates 246). Anna still can t make up her mind about her

The Alamo And The Mexican-American War
When looking on these documents, it is obvious to note the similarities with the writing in the early
textbooks on the topic of the Alamo and the Mexican American War. When these events happened,
America was still a pretty recent country and was trying it s hardest to make a name for themself
amonst the other well known countries. In 1867, when the first passage about the Alamo was written,
and in 1840, when the first passage about the Mexican American War was written, it was quite
apparent that the people writing these were not telling the full truth about the two events as it was
shown that in the writing of the Alamo, the author only said that David (Davy) Crockette was

Hermann s work begins with the ancient Egyptians, who believed that they were superior to all other
races, referring to themselves alone as humans and to all others as barbarians. Ancient Egyptian
inscriptions never depict the literal words of these so called barbaric foreigners. The foreigners are
always shown requesting mercy, and their speeches are always from the point of view of the Egyptians
illustrating Egyptian prejudices. Egyptians utilized interpreters as early as the fourteenth century and
then from the seventh century forward. Egyptians relied on interpreters in the Province of Elephantine,
in the mining region of the Sinai Peninsula, and in their central government. Hermann indicates that
interpreters became so necessary that Phararoh Psammetichus selected Egyptian boys to learn the
Greek language from the Hellenic settlers in the Nile Delta (cited in Pochhacker and Shlesinger, 2001,

The Inconvenience Of Reading In Charles Foster Kane s...
The Inconvenience of Reading
Young children are egocentric, unable to understand the world around them from a perspective other
than their own. Yet due to neural plasticity, they rapidly develop agglutinative schemas, categories of
knowledge that shape how they understand and respond to the world. As time passes, their horizons
expand and solidify. Now adults, they read the world as we all do: through contextual mediums and
filters. While the relationship between the reader and the world is multiplex, reading is an essential
means by which one constructs and derives meaning.
Since we read the world through mediums, mass media is one of the most potent institutions. It
cultivates societal and cultural norms, serving as an educator and entertainer. The media builds
narratives, framing real life events to fulfill their agendas. In Citizen Kane, publishing tycoon Charles
Foster Kane capitalizes on the power of modern mass media. He uses the New York Inquirer to lead
his yellow journalism crusade. The sensationalist narratives he directs lead the newspaper s readers to
view Cuban independence via a war with Spain as a necessity.
Kane is not alone. A number of governments frame the news to control how their citizens read the
world. Propaganda films and firewalls alike allow the state to manufacture its own narrative in the
context of global affairs. In democratic nations alike, yellow journalism tactics have mutated to adapt
to today s media channels, social media and traditional

Frank Ocean s Record Label Analysis
Some corporations appear to be strategically finding approaches that enable them to file for sampling
lawsuits as a scheme to increase their cashflows. Frank Ocean s Super Rich Kids samples from Mary
J. Blige s Real Love to which the record label, TufAmerica, had filed for copyright infringement. The
record label insisted that Ocean did not secure a license to use Real Love , which the label only owns
3.15% of the song. TufAmerica also sued Kanye West for sampling from Eddie Bo s Hook Sling and
claimed that although West s labels paid a licensing fee, they failed and refused to enter into written
license agreements that accounted for their multiple other uses of Hook Sling (Newman, 2014, para.

The Therapeutic Relationship And Interpersonal Relationships
It appears that for Jack, a major issue in both the therapeutic relationship and his interpersonal
relationships is his tendency to utilize splitting based defense/coping mechanisms. When the
interactions between Jack and Al and Jack and his therapist are mentioned, it is apparent that Jack
tends to split. He feels that Al is completely against him and out to take advantage of him. He is also
unable to consider things from Al s point of view in order to better understand the reality of the
situation. Another instance of this splitting behavior is noted when Jack accuses the therapist of
stringing him along simply for more money and considers him on Al s side . In fact the therapist noted
that Jack believed that he was either completely on his side or completely against him. Furthermore in
his interactions with his therapist, Jack seems to project his emotions and feelings outward. Although
it was clear that Jack was the angry one, he accused the therapist of being angry with him. (Defense
mechanism notes, and pg 280) Related to his habit of utilizing splitting based defense mechanism, is
Jack s faulty assumptions and errors in thinking. From the information provided, it appears that he
tends to rely on all or nothing concepts, specifically in his relationship to his mother. He recalled that
he felt as though he needed to whatever his mother wanted him to otherwise he would become a
disappointment to her. Furthermore, he erroneously believes that other people must treat him

There are a number of barriers to professional development within my role and a number of things
which you need to think about when booking/planning training for your staff. I have outlined the
potential barriers which I am likely to face within my role: * Lack of funding to access training * Lack
of staff to cover training * Courses being cancelled by organisation * No time * No
support/encouragement from your manager * General lack of appropriate training which you require *
No one to acknowledge your training needs through supervisions and appraisals * No confidence or
drive to strive for better * Transport (do not drive, no bus routes etc) * Lack of childcare (or unable to
afford) while attending courses * Not being able to identify your own training needs (thinks they
already know everything)
All the above are barriers which I am sure every childcare setting encounters when booking/planning

Usefulness and Reliability of Information Provided By...
An ongoing concern in financial reporting is the usefulness and reliability of information provided by
corporations. The financial accounting standard board defines usefulness as the information that is
useful for the users in decision making (FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information is
verified, objective, and can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No.
157 standardizes the valuation and disclosure of fair value for assets and liabilities in order to achieve
both usefulness and reliability. The reasoning for the hierarchy was due to the inconsistency in
previous definitions and guidance (FASB, 1992).
Introduction to Fair Value Hierarchy
To begin, SFAS defines fair value as the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SFAS Relating to the Conceptual Framework
The framework for measuring fair value is easy to understand and follow, and relates to the conceptual
framework. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market approach, because the
prices are observable. For this reason the standard recognizes the need for relevant, reliable, and
comparable information in order for users to make better decisions about the current financial position
of a company. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate the fair value,
whether the measurement were derived from an observable or unobservable input. The measurement
establishes the existence of reliable and relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information
useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be
researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the disclosures
which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the reliability of the internally
generated measurement. In return it can be understood that the level 1 inputs are more reliable and
relevant than the other two levels.
In addition, the fair value hierarchy also enhances the comparability and consistency of information
among companies due to following practices: all companies must

A Dream About Final Exams in Wislawa Szymborsk s Poem...
Wislawa Szymborska poem Brueghel s Two Monkeys starts out in a strange way. It begins out by
what the author dreams about final exams (1). Oddly, what she sees in her dream is two monkeys,
chained to the floor (2). The poem is about the human conditions in different settings of mankind. The
monkeys are the things that of the poets dream about the exam. The monkeys are a symbol of the
suffering of mankind based on the chains through the unpredictable events. As said in the last stanza,
One monkey stares and listens with a mocking disdain (7), while the other seems to be dreaming away
(8). The poem is full of metaphors that get the reader thinking about what it means in respect to what
the author is addressing. Reality has junctions in which one is peaceful while the other is harsh. In the
poem Brueghel s Two Monkeys by Wislawa Szymborska, we will look at representation of human
condition in a certain event. We will examine the human conditions through exams, history, and
solution.
In the poem, when it comes to exams it shows a great deal of decision making. In the first stanza of
the poem it show a significantly note of assessment. The part where the two monkeys were chained to
the floor, sit on the windowsill (2), the line after states the sky behind them flutters (3). The monkeys
are being assessed in beginning of the poem. The part of where the monkeys sit on the windowsill (2)
illustrates the idea of whether one should stay in the position of where

The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The...
The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal
language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and
training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are
endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is
enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent
years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency is spelling as one single incorrectly
spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire sentence. Moreover, the weakness in
spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words, the orthographic or spelling
learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good spelling information
is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct reading skill.
Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to
spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects
innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a
rule, writing skill development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling
and word recognition that rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and

Statutory Guidance for governors
Under Section 88 a governing body must: make, and from time to time review, a written statement of
general principles to guide the head teacher in determining measures to promote good behavior; and
notify the head teacher and give him or her related guidance if the governing body wants the school s
behavior policy to include particular measures or address particular issues.
Governors are therefore strongly advised to revise their school policies in line with this new guidance,
which is seen as the centre piece to an overall suite of DfES guidance across the broad range of issues
around school discipline, pupil behavior and attendance.
Section 2 Statutory guidance for governors on their duties as regards the school behavior policy is

The other sections of the guidance are non statutory, although they will help schools to understand
how to implement their relevant legal powers and duties to promote good school discipline and pupil

disorders are not the only thing males also suffer from. Expectations from the media are also a strong

Dunlap v. Tennessee Valley Authority
Joyce Harrison
Business Employment Law
May 11, 2011
1. What were the legal issues in this case? The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit was to
determine if the plaintiff, David Dunlap Dunlap, had met the burden of proof that the Tennessee
Valley Authority (TVA) was liable under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by intentionally
discriminating against him under both disparate impact and disparate treatment analyses and whether
the TVA appeal to the District Court erred in each of these analyses could be legally supported to
reverse their decision FindLaw, 2011). David Dunlap brought suit under Title VII, alleging racial
discrimination by the TVA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Explain why the plaintiff s disparate treatment claim succeeded.
The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer has treated some
people less favorably than others because of their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Three
provisions required to prove disparate treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima facie case
of racial discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason
for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was in fact pretextual. Proof of
discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from the mere fact of differences in treatment.
Proof may also be inferred from the falsity of the employer s explanation for the treatment, (Walsh,
2010).
Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by meeting the above 3
provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified for the position sought; and (3) white
applicants with less experience were hired for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA attempted to rebut his claim
by offering the selection matrix used during his interview as evidence to prove that he didn t rank as
one of the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores. However, Mr. Dunlap was able to refute TVA
s claim by demonstrating that his matrix score was manipulated to keep him out of top 10, thus
proving it was merely a

The Plastic Pink Flamingo Analysis
It s crazy to think how one of the greatest super powers in the world is home to probably the most
superficial, show off, easily influenced group of people in the world. From the very beginning
America has been a melting pot of adaptations with nothing in our culture, even our blood line, being
true American. We have this desire to show off to everyone around us about or trips and wealth
whether it be with t shirts and pictures or pink flamingos. In an essay entitled The Plastic Pink
Flamingo... Jennifer Price uses these 1950 s lawn ornaments as a way to demonstrate her views on
American culture. American s have turned something which we almost hunted...to extinction for the
sole purpose of plumes and meat into a symbol of our wealth and pizzazz. Price s underlying message
beginning that we are shear hypocrites. This isn t the only thing that we have done this one. The
American slave trade, which was a good idea to a lot of people at one point in time, was a horrific
offense (which it was) to those same groups of people 100 years later. America is so quick to turn their
beliefs and stands into whatever is the right side of history at the time even if it contradicts something
they previously believed. As long as whatever they are believing gives them the opportunity to gloat
and show off to everyone else.
When the flamingo frenzy splashed into the 1950 s it flew into a generation who had just gained a
whole new sense of wealth. The middle class had never had this

And there is the Persian Empire that lasted from 553 B.C.E to 330 B.C.E, which was located in Iran, north of the Persian Gulf. Even though the empires thrived during different time periods, they both had a well built and expanded empire and how they treated people. At the same time, they also had very opposing ideas of who was in charge of the empire and how they ruled the government. Other differences, were that the two empires believed in contrasting religions and how it spreads to another region. Although different, both beliefs had the support of a government. • 4. Employee Teacher Reflection Portfolio It has now come to my understanding that as a trainee teacher, it is vital that I become a reflective practitioner when fostering the role of a teacher. In support of this, Tripp (2012, p.12) adds that being reflective is an essential part of the development of professional judgement . He continues to state that one must be able to examine and critique their teaching to build on their own professional values and ideas. It is through this theory that as a trainee teacher, I must be able to examine my own critical incident from my school based training placement (SBT1). I will be employing Tripp s four approaches of analysis Thinking Strategies, The Why? Challenge, Dilemma Identification and Personal Theory Analysis (Tripp, 2012, pp. 43 54). However, before I start my analysis, it is important to identify what a critical incident is. Tripp (2012) states that critical incidents are shaped by the way we look at a situation. He further adds that a critical incident is an interpretation of the significance of an event (p. 8). The context of my incident took place in a year four class within the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It consisted of me teaching a whole class Literacy lesson where the majority of the pupils were considered or categorised as having English as an additional language. Incident My critical incident occurred in the last week of my placement. I was teaching a sequence of Literacy lessons to a class of 27 students. The objective of the ... • 5. Research Paper On Liquid Latex From the data we collected, it is clearly shown that by day 9 liquid latex preserved the most mass in the pig foot. While the foot harbouring liquid latex only lost 77.9g of mass in 9 days, alcohol lost 90.3g, formalin lost 91.6g, oils lost 87.6g, and phenol lost 129.3g. Expectantly, almost every independent variable lost less mass than the control, which lost 127.2g. However, the unexpected greater loss of mass in the leg containing Phenol may prove that there was experimental error in one of our final measurements. In addition, the results were not completely expected. Due to the new research on using plastic as a preservative, we hypothesized that liquid latex would be the most effective at delaying decomposition. When using plastication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It performed more efficiently than phenol, alcohol, and oils but not as well as liquid latex. This result could have been due to the fact that the formalin was not pure because it was previously utilized for an unknown amount of time. Formalin has strong dehydrating and oxidizing agents. Its purpose is to be used as a disinfectant, a germicide, and it fixes/preserves tissue cells. Additionally, it combines with proteins, inactivating them, and kills them. It preserves efficiently due to the fact that it penetrates deep into the tissue, kills present bacteria, helps prevent future bacteria, and assists with retaining the tissue structure (Mercer County Community College, 2016). In our experiment, it lost about 14.13%, or 91.6g of its original mass while liquid latex lost 13.81% , phenol lost 19.05%, oils lost 14.46%, and alcohol lost 17.00%. In other words, it was a close second but not quite as advanced as liquid latex. The last measurement of formalin was recorded to have lost 14.13% and finish with a mass of 549.95g compared to 640.45g. With this knowledge we feel that the formalin could have potentially been more effective if we had used unused formalin. Concluding our experiment, it was apparent that liquid latex achieved maximum use at delaying the mass loss of the foot. Formalin performed fairly decently while oils only had moderate success and quality. On the contrary, phenol and alcohol performed indecently and lost much more mass in comparison with liquid latex which had more efficacious results.Whether or not the data was skewed from maggots, incorrect calculations, or ineffective materials, the results convey a fairly reliable source of facts and statistics based on ... Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight Sherman Alexie s The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven is a collection of short stories about the lives of the people who live on the Spokane Indian Reservation. The central protagonist of the story is Victor Joseph who we see in many short stories and thus see the plight Native Americans go through in modern day America. The novel shows us the many trials that the people of the Reservation go through and addresses the many serious problems that modern Native Americans face, such as racism, alcoholism, poverty, limited educational opportunities, and being geographical isolated. Ultimately the state of affairs that the modern Native American race goes through stems from the historical events of European colonialism as well as modern day popular culture. One of the major problems that modern Native Americans face are the Americanization or white washing of their culture. This is caused by technology as well as the isolation of the reservation compared to the outside world. Still, Indians have a way of surviving. But it s almost like Indians can easily survive the big stuff. Mass murder, loss of language and land rights. It s the small things that hurt the most. The white waitress who wouldn t take an order, Tonto, the Washington Redskin (The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven E Book Chapter 5). This passage gives context to the book s title. • 7. Debt-To-Equit Ratio As observed in the graphical representation, there is definitely a clear difference in the value of Debt to Equit ratio for Aveva inc as compared to that of Drax plc. The financial performance for Aveva as can be seen on the figure above show a consistent results in every single year, with only FY 2014 205 showing a little rise which can be attributed to the uncertainties in stock markets as a result to slowdown that was experienced in China and the Asian countries. Drax Plc has had a rise in its DE ratio continuously. An investor would be interested in the potential of a corporation in terms of its financial performance and potential for getting the best return for their investments. In 2011, all was rosy for both companies and the Debt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This then indicates that, the equity ratio is about 59% on the capital structure. This shows that, the equity value was more than the dept. However by the end of 2015, the dept ratio for Aveva was 0.54, which then translates to 54% of dept versus equity, which will be 46%. In this scenario, the borrowing exceeded the value of the company equity thus impacting on the market value of the company negatively. The best case scenario, Aveva investor should consider investing more on the equity and reduce the dept that the company is facing, this can then redeem the value of the company and thus possibility realizing stable financial performance in future, Drax group Plc on the other hand, has experienced drastic compression of its equity value. As of the year 2011 the company was faced with a dept ratio of about 0.54. This failed to reduce, and instead went higher and as at the end of 2015, the company dept ratio was about 1.02. This simply means that, the company dept is higher than the company s value, therefore financial distress in future is highly likely for Drax group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The Apology. Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of turmoil where the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods cause the views and purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more cynical and pessimistic in comparison to Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince, he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune. However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy. Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna. Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. Literary Analysis: A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings In the story, A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez intertwines the supernatural with the natural in an amazing manner. This essay analyzes how Marquez efficiently utilizes an exceptional style and imaginative tone that requests the reader to do a self introspection on their life regarding their responses to normal and abnormal events. Marquez sets the tone of the story with an occurrence that is unusual and unsolicited: a newborn caught in bad weather. The introductory writing style is striking as Marquez gives a hint of the bad weather: The world had been sad since Tuesday. (Márquez 13) He introduces a supernatural element by describing a bizarre old man with massive wings. He shatters the assumption that angels are powerful and divine by describing the old man stuck in the mud as, ...impeded by his enormous wings (Márquez 13) and unable to free himself. Marquez uses irony as an element of tone to show the reader that the wings, which were supposed to aid the man, are now his source of anguish. It is evident when a woman, having concluded that the peculiar old man was an angel, decides to put him to death by bludgeoning. Marquez utilizes ironic wording in describing the actions of the couple who felt noble after their decision to put the old man on a raft with food and leave him to his fate on the high seas. (Márquez 14) In sections of the story, Marquez s tone indicates regret. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Polis Aristotle Aristotle contends that achieving human happiness and well being is impossible without living in a city because human beings are political animals and therefore politics is an elemental part of the good life. Aristotle bases this claim off of the argument that politics and city formation is a natural part of being human because humans have an inherent impulse to create associations and partnerships that eventually evolve into political communities, or the polis. These partnerships arise first from two individual s who need each other to survive (1252b) then to households which extend to become villages (1252b16), to eventually fully formed self sufficient cities (1252b27). By virtue of establishing the partnerships as natural, Aristotle is successful in asserting that the political is fundamental to human nature and in order for individuals to experience the good life they must be members of the city (1253a20). Furthermore, Aristotle supports this claim by contending the one who is in need of nothing through being self sufficient is no part of a city and so is either a beast or a god (1253a27). • 18. The Conflict Between Palestinian Arabs And Jews The conflict between Palestinian Arabs and Jews is a phenomenon that stems from the struggle over land defined exclusively as a Holy Land by both groups. Their competing claim to this territory and the constant struggle for exclusive political control has created irreconcilable differences. Jewish claim over the land is based on a covenant made between God and Abraham and the need for haven from the growing anti Semitism in Europe. Palestinian Arabs claims to the land are based on their continuous residence in the country and the rejection of the notion that ancient kingdoms constitute claims over land in a modern time. They believe that because Abraham s son Ishmael is the forefather of the Arabs, then God s promise of the land to the children of Abraham include them as well. Although the land of Palestine was inhabited by a range of individuals living in peace, the growing tension from the Zionist group, as well as the influx of Jewish immigration created growing anti Semitism, which led to the Jewish push towards finding a haven. In the late 1800s, a group of extremist minorities of the Jewish population began to colonize what was then Palestine. Known as Zionists, their goal was to create a Jewish homeland, a haven from the growing anti Semitism. Id, Ego, And Superego In The Lady With The Pet Dog In Joyce Oates short story The Lady with the Pet Dog, the main character, Anna, represents the Id, Ego, and Superego characteristics defined by Sigmund Freud. Anna is facing her morals (Superego) and feelings (Id), being confined to a marriage and detesting her affair. Because Anna is forced to balance a failing marriage, and loving her husband, while also loving a man who s not her husband, and not loving him because she can t, builds stress inside her and leads to rash desires and actions. Anna displays Freud s Id characteristics throughout, the things she wants most are life and love. Anna is in the middle of a dysfunctional marriage and starts an affair with another man. Her Id psyche is prevalent when her husband says that he loves her, but she thinks about her lover saying ...if betraying him (her husband) it would give her life a center (Oates 239). Anna s unconscious immature Id psyche thinks that the only way for her to have a purpose in life is to be with her lover, only looking for pleasure and not thinking about the consequences (McLeod). The Id is overlooking the common logic, she is married and her lover is married too, which is morally wrong, overriding the Superego. Anna s Id can be compared to that of a child s, like a kid at the store who asks his mom for candy, and when she says no he decides to steal the candy. Ancient Egyptian inscriptions never depict the literal words of these so called barbaric foreigners. The foreigners are always shown requesting mercy, and their speeches are always from the point of view of the Egyptians illustrating Egyptian prejudices. Egyptians utilized interpreters as early as the fourteenth century and then from the seventh century forward. • 23. The Inconvenience Of Reading In Charles Foster Kane s... The Inconvenience of Reading Young children are egocentric, unable to understand the world around them from a perspective other than their own. Yet due to neural plasticity, they rapidly develop agglutinative schemas, categories of knowledge that shape how they understand and respond to the world. As time passes, their horizons expand and solidify. Now adults, they read the world as we all do: through contextual mediums and filters. While the relationship between the reader and the world is multiplex, reading is an essential means by which one constructs and derives meaning. Since we read the world through mediums, mass media is one of the most potent institutions. It cultivates societal and cultural norms, serving as an educator and entertainer. The media builds narratives, framing real life events to fulfill their agendas. In Citizen Kane, publishing tycoon Charles Foster Kane capitalizes on the power of modern mass media. He uses the New York Inquirer to lead his yellow journalism crusade. The sensationalist narratives he directs lead the newspaper s readers to view Cuban independence via a war with Spain as a necessity. Kane is not alone. A number of governments frame the news to control how their citizens read the world. He feels that Al is completely against him and out to take advantage of him. He is also unable to consider things from Al s point of view in order to better understand the reality of the situation. The financial accounting standard board defines usefulness as the information that is useful for the users in decision making (FASB, 2011). Reliability is inferred when the information is verified, objective, and can be relied on. Therefore, Statement of Financial Accounting Standards No. 157 standardizes the valuation and disclosure of fair value for assets and liabilities in order to achieve both usefulness and reliability. As stated earlier the preferred measure of fair value is the market approach, because the prices are observable. Financial readers are aware of the valuing measurement used to calculate the fair value, whether the measurement were derived from an observable or unobservable input. The measurement establishes the existence of reliable and relevance qualitative factors that make accounting information useful for decision making (Barbera, 2007). If it were observable then the value derived can be researched and verified. However, if it were unobservable then the user must read the disclosures which will be discussed later in the research paper, and determine the reliability of the internally generated measurement. In return it can be understood that the level 1 inputs are more reliable and relevant than the other two levels. • 31. The Importance Of Writing And Writing Skills In The... The English language has turned into the world s most widely used language. It is the principal language for global communications in various fields including trade, industry, legislative issues, and training. This is the main motivation behind why a large number of learners throughout the world are endeavoring to enhance their English language capability. A basic segment of this capability is enhancing one s ability for writing since this ability is absolutely essential for employment in recent years. One vital factor to consider with writing competency is spelling as one single incorrectly spelled word can change a word or the purpose of the entire sentence. Moreover, the weakness in spelling significantly affects writing and reading abilities. In other words, the orthographic or spelling learning is the driving force for productive reading and proficient writing. Good spelling information is also critical for recognizing the words, which can enormously improve or obstruct reading skill. Concerning writing, poor spelling can make writing a troublesome task by too much attention to spelling. Poor spelling likewise confines the writer s selection of words, which contrarily affects innovativeness and prompts short and incoherent parts in writing (Baluch and Shahidi, 1991). As a rule, writing skill development for ESL students is mainly affected by the words, for example, spelling and word recognition that rely upon comparable skills, to be specific, orthographic and ... What we do not realize however is that males struggle with their body image as much as females do and are often not recognized in their fight to meet the expectations of society. Males struggle with all kinds of eating and body disorders just as females do and the expectations pushed on them by the media, women, and even other guys. Expectations from the media are also a strong push into worries about body image. Despite popular belief, guys struggle with images broadcasted by the media as much as girls do. Andrew Shrout, a junior at U.C. Berkeley feels the weight that is put on him to be a man and pretend like nothing is wrong. Men are pressured to have as little fat as possible but you ve got to pretend like you don t watch what you eat (Alpert 1). Also, men are expected to up their game as women get more power financially as well as keep their bodies well maintained. Clinical instructor at the Harvard Medical school psychiatry department Roberto Olivardia states that men and young boys deal with the same images broadcasted out as women and young girls do. Boys are growing up now with the billboard of the guy with perfect pecs and biceps (Alpert 2). Media pushes the perfect way to look at men in commercials, magazines, male models, and even movies. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit was to determine if the plaintiff, David Dunlap Dunlap, had met the burden of proof that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was liable under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by intentionally discriminating against him under both disparate impact and disparate treatment analyses and whether the TVA appeal to the District Court erred in each of these analyses could be legally supported to reverse their decision FindLaw, 2011). David Dunlap brought suit under Title VII, alleging racial discrimination by the TVA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. Explain why the plaintiff s disparate treatment claim succeeded. The disparate treatment doctrine requires a plaintiff to demonstrate that an employer has treated some people less favorably than others because of their race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Three provisions required to prove disparate treatment are (1) the plaintiff must establish a prima facie case of racial discrimination; (2) the employer must articulate some legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason for its actions, and (3) the plaintiff must prove that the stated reason was in fact pretextual. Proof of discriminatory motive is critical and may be inferred from the mere fact of differences in treatment. Proof may also be inferred from the falsity of the employer s explanation for the treatment, (Walsh, 2010). Mr. Dunlap successfully established a prima facie case of disparate treatment by meeting the above 3 provisions; (1) he was African American; (2) he was qualified for the position sought; and (3) white applicants with less experience were hired for 9 of the 10 open jobs. TVA attempted to rebut his claim by offering the selection matrix used during his interview as evidence to prove that he didn t rank as one of the top 10 applicants due to his interview scores. However, Mr. Dunlap was able to refute TVA s claim by demonstrating that his matrix score was manipulated to keep him out of top 10, thus proving it was merely a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. The Plastic Pink Flamingo Analysis It s crazy to think how one of the greatest super powers in the world is home to probably the most superficial, show off, easily influenced group of people in the world. From the very beginning America has been a melting pot of adaptations with nothing in our culture, even our blood line, being true American. We have this desire to show off to everyone around us about or trips and wealth whether it be with t shirts and pictures or pink flamingos. In an essay entitled The Plastic Pink Flamingo... Jennifer Price uses these 1950 s lawn ornaments as a way to demonstrate her views on American culture. American s have turned something which we almost hunted...to extinction for the sole purpose of plumes and meat into a symbol of our wealth and pizzazz. Price s underlying message beginning that we are shear hypocrites. This isn t the only thing that we have done this one. The American slave trade, which was a good idea to a lot of people at one point in time, was a horrific offense (which it was) to those same groups of people 100 years later. America is so quick to turn their beliefs and stands into whatever is the right side of history at the time even if it contradicts something they previously believed. As long as whatever they are believing gives them the opportunity to gloat and show off to everyone else. When the flamingo frenzy splashed into the 1950 s it flew into a generation who had just gained a whole new sense of wealth. The middle class had never had this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
