In America, the justice system is flawed and biased in most cases. Many cases are
overlooked and have exaggerated sentences that sets a person s fate in stone. In the
documentary, Time: The Kalief Browder Story, Kalief Browder was wrongfully put
in Riker s Island Jail for three years. He endured beatings, starvation and torture
without ever being convicted of a crime. He spent most of his time in solitary
confinement and it drove him to the brink of insanity. His whole life changed the
night he got arrested for supposedly stealing a man s backpack. Without having the
funds for bail, Kalief stayed in one of the most violent prisons in the country and it
affected him immensely. He was paranoid and did not trust anyone around him
because he thought they were the police. No matter what he did to try and work
through the suffering, he still ended up in a psychiatric hospital on a couple occasions
after his release. And because of the effects, he committed suicideat his mom s home
only a few years after he was released from prison. The justice system is fatally

money, you can stay at home and await your trial. If you cannot afford bail, you

The indigenous people of California had existed on the lands as hunters gathers
before the arrival of the Spanish who were the first Europeans to reach this part of the
Americas. These settlers who began surveying the area since 1530, helped introduce

there has always been a risk of exposure to both physical and psychological trauma.
The threat of violence, personal tragedies, and economic and social catastrophes
are all possible triggers for an onset of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
What was once reserved as a diagnosis for veterans has been found to affect both
young and old. The development of various assessment tools have been used in
diagnosing PTSD and one of the most commonly used tests is the Post Traumatic
Stress Diagnostic Scale. It is an assessment that was developed and validated by Edna
Foa to provide a brief but reliable self report measure of PTSD for use in both clinical
and research settings (Zalta, Gillihan, Fisher, Mintz, McLean, Yehuda, Foa, 2014).
The Post Traumatic Diagnostic Scale is an assessment instrument deigned to be taken
by adults with at least an eighth grade reading level. This review of will evaluate the

In this reflection journal, we were asked to take a decision making quiz on biases
that we may have. I was surprised with a few that I possess. The rush to solve and
the anchoring and adjustment heuristic are the two that I tested positive for on the
quiz. While I read the reasoning for the decision making quiz, I recalled my logic
and critical reasoning class that I had before that discussed bias in argument.
However, it was surprising to see that I committed these biases on the quiz, even if
I was extremely cautious in my positioning and reasoning based on what I learned
from my logic class. Although it may seem that these biases are only caused by an
erroneous mistake, a lot of people have the same bias. The percentiles for each bias...
An example would be when I was learning C++. When I had to debug my code, I
chose to ignore lines that seemed correct because I had used similar functions in
previous programs. It turns out that one of the lines that I was missing didn t
include a semi colon so the program wasn t running. I was over confident in my

would be from the availability bias, which is relying on information that is readily
