Essay On Water Pollution
Chapter One
The Problem and Its Setting
Water is essential to life. It provides an efficient way to transfer substances from a
cell to the cell s environment. Which is why there is usually no positive impacts
when referring to water pollution as it is a major global problem. Water pollution
is the contamination of water bodies. It exist as a result of harmful substances being
inserted into water bodies whether purposely or accidently. When observed it has an
affect on the entire ecological system, and most occurrences negatively impact
whole species as it is the leading cause of death and disease. On account of water
being an vital component of life on Earth, if it is indeed contaminated, it will deplete
the health of the plant and every living thing on it.
Background of the Study
Water pollution can affect the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and they can
become contaminated. When the consumption of influenced macroinvertebrates
occur and travel throughout the food chain based around the body of water, toxins
that contaminated the supply are now spread. The water quality can determine which
type of macroinvertebrates inhabit the bodies of water because there are pollution
sensitive and pollution tolerant macroinvertebrates. If the bodies of water are only
inhabited by pollution tolerant macroinvertebrate that suggest that the water is highly
contaminate and those are the only macroinvertebrates that can survive there.

Spinal Cord Injury Analysis
The second article I chose to summarize discusses the rehabilitation process on a rat
with a spinal cord injury. The method they used to rehabilitate the rats spinal cord
was by electrically stimulating neurons that would normally be stimulated if the rats
spinal cord was not damaged. The whole purpose of the study was to find a way to
help people who are experiencing spinal corddamage which can severely limit the
way a person carries out day to day activities. The article states that before now other
rehabilitation efforts helped some but not enough to allow the person experiencing
the injury to recover. How the electrical stimulation works is, electrical excitation is
given to the parts of the undamaged spinal cord of the rat, this then
Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House Essay
Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House Ibsens s play is a modern tragedy which functions on
two levels, questioning the established social order of the day and presenting the
death of a marriage. Both these events create a great deal of tension, and combined
with the language and actions used by the characters, make the play very intense. The
main cause of dramatic tension throughout the play is the way that the difference
between the real nature of the characters and the roles they are assigned by society is
presented. This difference is demonstrated by the disparity in the action of the
characters in comparison with their lexical choice. The initial impression given by the
opening scene is of a happy traditional household. The... Show more content on

The contrast between Nora s language as she speaks to Krogstad and that used
towards Helmer shows her increasing anxiety as she begins to threaten him, When
one is in a humble position, Mr Krogstad, one should think twice before offending
someone who hm ! The continual use of the third person, one , shows Nora
attempting to draw attention to her social status and so regain some control and
authority over the situation. The fact that Krogstad is of lower social status yet
has the audacity to threaten Nora would be somewhat shocking to the audience of
the day, Do as you please. But I tell you this. If I get thrown into the gutter for a
second time, I shall take you with me. The monosyllabic words and simple
sentences, as well as the imperative Do as you please used by Krogstad, ensure that
his threats have a lot of impact both on Nora and the audience. The harsh sound of
the verb shall reasserts his authority and emphasises his power. Language also
builds up tension in the play by displaying Nora s desperation and therefore
informing the audience of the significance of the situation she is in. Nora talks to
herself more and more towards the climax of the play in frenzied and frantic
sentences, Corrupt my little children ! Poison my home! It isn t true! It couldn t be
true! The exclamatory nature of these sentences shows that Nora is deeply distressed,

Review Of Nicolo And Maffeo Polo
In 1260, Nicolo and Maffeo Polo set forth on their first journey to the East. After
traveling from the East to the land of the Tartar they reached the Kublai Khan
court. The Khan questioned them about the Catholic faith and asked them to
return to Europe and request the pope to send missionaries. However, when the
two explorers returned they learned that Pope Clement was dead. After that discovery
they also revealed Nicolo s wife had died while giving birth to a son, who is now in
his teenage years. After the passing of the Pope there was a long delay in naming a
new one. In 1271, Marco Poloset forth navigating across exotic lands with his father
and uncle on a journey that lasted several years. Marco Polo discovered trade and
religion that has brought the world together today. The beginning of their journey led
to them being accepted into the Kublai KhanCourt. This journey took place across
deserts, mountains, and seas in East Asia, continuing along the Silk Road, and
through regions that were unknown to the Western World. Also, they had many
encounters with creatures, plants, and humans from different cultures. Through
acceptance and service, Marco Polo was led to places far away that were rich of
gems, gold, and silk. Yet, when participating in a military conflict in 1298 he was
taken captive. Marco Polo, the son of a Venetian merchant and traveler, has become
one of the most famous European travelers because of the documentation of his

The Incarceration System Of The United States
Indeed, once upon a time the incarceration system was set in place with two firm
duties: retribution and rehabilitation. When did these institutions, once considered
virtuous and just, become the hallmark of inequality? On September 27th, 2015,
Pope Francis remarked on a visit to a Philadelphia jail It is painful when we see prison
systems, which are not concerned to care for wounds, to soothe pain, to offer new
possibilities, a moving sentiment that would soon resonate with the American
population. Unbeknownst to many listening to his gripping words, в…“ of the world
s female prison population is incarcerated in the United States. And if the magnitude
of that figure does not astound you, maybe the fact that every 1 in 15 American
prisoners are black, while only 1 in 106 prisoners are white, will. These statistics
reported by Harper s Index embody the blatant corruption of the American
incarcerationsystem and the innate institutionalized racism the U.S has sustained
throughout history. Since the inception of the United States, the government has had
one definitive purpose: to protect the people s rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of
happiness. These prerogatives established a framework for the optimal democratic
society, one that would be impartial and benevolent. However, the entire non white
population is barred from sharing in these rights. One of the major ways these rights
are denied is through incarceration. A look at our high rates of imprisonment might,
The Food Waste And Recycling
Food Waste Recycling
There are billions of people struggling every day to have enough to eat, and billions
of tons of food being tossed in the garbage, food waste is gaining increasing
awareness as a serious environmental and economic issue. Research shows that about
60 million metric tons of food is wasted a year in the United States, with an estimated
value of $162 billion. About 32 million tons of it end up in landfills, at a cost of
about $1.5 billion a year to local government this economic crisis is worldwide! My
research estimates that a third of all the food produced in the world is never
consumed, and the total cost of that food waste could be as high as $400 billion a
year. The food discarded by retailers and consumers in the most developed
countries would be more than enough to feed all of the world s hungry people, but
it is not just those countries that have problems with food waste, it is also an issue
in African countries like South Africa. The problem is expected to grow worse as
the world s population increases, unless actions are taken to reduce the waste. Food
waste is not only a social cost, but it contributes to growing environmental problems
like global warming, experts say, with the production of food consuming vast
quantities of water, fertilizer and land. The fuel that is burned to process, refrigerate
and transport it also adds to the environmental cost. Most food waste is thrown away
in landfills, where it decomposes and emits methane, a potent
Improving The Best Of Existing State Standards
Structuring on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards
provide a clear and reliable learning goal to help prepare students for college, career,
and life. The standards clearly demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each
grade level, so that every parent and teacher can understand and support their
learning. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, grade by grade standards exist in
English language arts/literacy and mathematics. From 9th through 12th grade, the
standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th
through 12th grade standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using
primary texts in the classroom to build literacy, along with many other things. While
the standards set grade specific goals, they do not define how the standards should be
taught or which materials should be used to support students. States and districts
know that there will need to be a range of supports in place to guarantee that all
students, including those with special needs and English language learners, can
master the standards. It is up to the states to outline the full range of supports
appropriate for these students. Since the release of the final standards in 2010, a two
party mix of organizations representing parents, teachers, business leaders, and other
key voices have strongly supported the Common Core State Standards. The National

Being Raised By Grandparents
Being raised by grandparents. Every day, the thoughts of never being loved
enough by the parent to stay or to help the person, who has the custody, take care
of the child; run around the mind in a repeated process like a scratched CD.
Grandparents basically do a rear march as they repeat the process of taking care of
the children of their children. Grandparents are the parents of a person s father or
motherpaternal or maternal. There are many different reasons to why parents give,
lend, or are forced their parental rights to their parents, who are the child s
grandparents such as the parentbeing incarnated, death/illness, on drugs, completing
school, or in the armed forces such as the military, navy, or the air force. So basically
when the grandparents take on this role they are becoming a safety net which catches

In what used to be called the golden years, a surging number of grandparents are
slammed with continued family obligations. According to the U.S. Census Bureau,
the number of grandkids living with a grandparent has jump shot a shockingly 64%
in the past two decades. This increase comes as states are placing more foster
children with relatives in response to research which shows that children are better
off with family rather than in foster care. There is an economic incentive, too.
Generations United, nonprofit advocates for kinship families, says taxpayers would
see significant savings by keeping children out of foster care and placing them with
family members. African American and Hispanic grandparents are most likely than
Caucasians to begin and continue a multi generation household or so called skipped
generation household in which the child s parents are
Approaches to the Figure of Divine Wisdom in the Book of...
Modem Feminist approaches [c. 1000 words]
Discussing the contemporary sociological perspective of modern feminism to divine
wisdom should involve a brief overview of the theology s focus. McGrath suggests
that Feminism is a global movement, arguing for gender equality and a right
understanding of the relationship between women and men to be affirmed by
contemporary theology and practice (McGrath, 2011: p.88). Thus, when discussing
wisdom in the scriptures the feminists are observing how gender is represented and
the effect of this representation upon helping or hindering a right relationship
between the genders.
To recap, Proverbs illustrate Wisdom as both teacher and as a personified woman,
whereas in John, Wisdom is incarnate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather it compels us to continue the struggle with conventional masculine language
for God and the exclusivist authoritarian functions and implications of such language.
Feminist theology must rearticulate the symbols, images, and names of Divine
Sophia in the context of our own experiences and theological struggles in such a way
that the ossified and absolutized masculine language about God and Christ is
radically questioned and undermined and the Western cultural sex/gender system is
radically deconstructed (Fiorenza, 1995: p.162).
Therefore Fiorenza believes that the language signifying feminine impetus of God is
a way of realising gender equality and thus a better understanding of the relationship
between genders which has been oppressed too long by the over emphasis on
masculinity. Fiorenza further explains that without the loving attention and divine
care as embodied and made present in the figure of Divine Sophia the true meaning of
the Father is diminished (Fiorenza, 1995: p.154) Another feminist theologian,
Johnson, also suggests that reclaiming the feminine Wisdom could challenge the
patriarchy embedded in classical Christology. Johnson realized as discussed above,
that the early Christian s use of personified Wisdom was a developmental step in the
understanding
Turn of the screw Essay
The Turn of the Screw Henry James, the famous author of The Turn of the Screw
was born on April 15, 1843 to his wealthy parents Henry James and Mary Walsh.
His father, also called Henry James, was an Irish immigrant and by the time his
own children were born he had inherited a lot of money from his father; and at this
time Henry James senior and his family were living in New York. Henry James

Maybe this was the actual start of The Turn Of The Screw . At the time the book
was written it was the late 19th century, Victorian era; and at the time Victorians
were fascinated by ghosts a perfect reason to write a psychological ghost story. The
Victorians were convinced ghosts were dangerous though, evil spirits believed
either to get them, to possess the living or to do the devil s work. People in the
19th century were also intrigued by the after life, including what happened when
you actually died. Henry James family was also included in this. This would give
Henry James a perfect reason to write the novella aimed at a huge proportion of
people who would be actually interested in reading a book involving ghosts. As
The Turn of the Screw was written in the 19th century when most of his family
were famous and praised for their study of the mind and investigations into spirit
phenomena, this could have inspired Henry to write the story. The fact that his
older brother was famous and successful man when it came to psychology and
physiology may have contributed to sibling rivalry. Henry had written novels that
hadn t sold well and had written plays that were far too intellectual for many of the
general public to even watch. Writing a psychological ghost story in a spirit
obsessed era when his family were renowned for their knowledge seems to be best
explanation as to why the novella was written. The whereabouts of the actual tale has
real evidence because in one
An Essay Comparing Joshua and Jesus
At first glance Joshua seems to just be a story of the Israelites and the settling of
the Promised Land, however, there may also be a prophetic vision of God s plan
for Salvation of His people. The book of Joshua shows the difference between living
a life, like Moses, under the Law of the Old Testament and under the freedom, which
came from JesusChrist, as Joshua did. One could certainly make a strong case that
Joshua 1 6 can be looked at as a metaphor of Jesus Christ and man s salvation through
Him. The evidence ranges from Joshua s name to the meaning of the Jordan River.
The implications would mean that Godwas discretely showing the IsraelitesHis plan
for future salvation well over a thousand years before Christ.Joshua chapters... Show

A divine act from God allowed the Israelites to cross. The coming of Jesus Christ
around 1400 years later is a stunning parallel to this part of the story. Since the law
was not the complete solution to the problem of man and sin, what was? The
people needed some kind of medium to be able to cross from sin into a
relationship with God. This medium would come from God sending His son,
Jesus, to help cross the river . This was just as how God chose Joshua to lead the
Israelites into the Promised Land. They are no longer bound by the hopelessness of
trying to live a perfect life under the law.
Aside from the similarities between the actual stories, there is other evidence to
support the connection between Joshua and Jesus, such as the actual names of the
two. According to Uittenbogaard, in Hebrew Joshua is actually composed of two
parts. The first part directly means the name of God, or YHWH. The second part of
Joshua means to save or to deliver . When put together the common English
translation is The Lord saves . Joshua is also from the original Hebrew form of the
Greek name Jesus. During the ministry of Jesus, both names may have been very
similar in pronunciation, if not the same altogether (Uittenbogaard). Certainly, this
point is not black and white, and there are many interpretations about the various
origins and usage of the
The Pros and Cons of Parole
Parole is a highly controversial issue in Australia and around the world. A likely
cause for this controversy is the general publicВ’s ignorance of the specifics where
parole is concerned. Any casual observation of a local newspaper or current affairs
program on TV will likely result in the discovery of a member of the publicВ’s
opinion of crimeand criminals and the criminal justicesystem in general, and what
they believe to be wrong with it and no doubt suggestions on how to fix it. These
opinions will probably be biased in nature, and influenced by information supplied to
them by various forms of media. This information does not necessarily reflect the
reality of the situation regarding the parolesystem. Adding to this potential for... Show

It was designed as a concession to the prisoner which was also expected to benefit the
community as a whole, at the same time providing the environmental influences
which would discourage the offender from committing further offences (Law Reform
Commission NSW, 2001).
Parole was originally designed in the mid 1800s as an alternative to incarceration
when it became apparent that incarceration was unsatisfactorily effective at
preventing further criminal behaviour by offenders (Travis, 1995). It was agreed
that a system of reform would prove more effective than imprisonment when it
came to producing law abiding citizens. While parole has its origins in America, it
underwent revision on Norfolk Island in a British penal colony operated by
Alexander Maconochie, now referred to as the В“father of paroleВ”. This system,
where prisoners were allowed increasing levels of freedom and other benefits in
reward for good behaviour and productivity, laid the groundwork for the modern
parole system in use today, though there have been modifications made in response to
changing political and economic situations, as well as legal challenges.
The parole system has had its criticisms in the years since its introduction into the
Australian criminal justice system, with some questioning the procedures involved,
and others calling for the abolition of parole altogether. Some of these criticisms
come in the form of somewhat one sided, subjective

the country, Americans were experiencing events of mass chaos for the first time.
From assassinations of political figures, to riots and protests to end segregation

a huge political figure in this era. He began protests and marches that lead to
controversy around the United States. These marches and protests however, lead to
violent acts. He also delivered the I Have a Dream Speech and changed the world
that we live in today. Next, the 16th Street Baptist church bombing occurred leaving a

small quantity of plastic and glass.
Lastly, humans are posing a threat not only to the existence of different kinds of

November 2014 automobile deals increment by 5 percent. The great times are
proceeding for the US automobile industry, now nearing the end of its fifth year of
recuperation from 2009 s depressively low deals numbers. Most automakers
guaranteed sound increments for November 2014, headed by the Chrysler Group
s 20 percent expansion over a year prior. Deals for Chrysler, Ford and GM
additionally expanded while Nissan and Ford enrolled slight decreases for the
month. Jeep deals keep on paing the Chrysler Group. Chrysler, Ford and GM GM
keeps on leadding the business sector, appreciating a 6 percent deals increment for
November. Buick and GMC paced deals with Chevrolet deals increasing an
unassuming 3 percent. Nonetheless, Cadillac deals keep on pulling back, falling
19 percent for the month. GM acknowledged Black Friday deals for boosting is
numbers. Said Kurt Mcneil, U.s. VP of Sales Operations, The buzz around Black
Friday helped drive solid showroom movement however there was a ton more at
work in the business sector. Mcneil noted that more individuals have employments,
family unit riches are on the bounce back and gas costs are falling. Ford deals
succumbed to the third back to back month as the automaker retools to deliver its
all new 2015 Ford F 150 pickup truck. Ford additionally said that it is increasing
creation for two different models Mustang and Transit and anticipates that brand
deals will stay discouraged for the short term. Indeed in this way, Ford

Figure 1.3 is an illustration of the power and interest of stakeholders in businesses.
(Campbell, Stonehouse Houston, 2002:28В¬) Substantial Stakeholders within a
Business As mentioned earlier, stakeholders are individuals or groups of people
who have a very large influence over the business. The major desirable
stakeholders in any types of businesses are as follows: Shareholders who own a
share of the company, in the hope of profit Suppliers, who provide the raw
components for the business Customers who buy the products; services Employees
who endeavour tasks within the business; are paid wages Lenders who are willing
to lend money with the intention of receiving interest The government, who collect
taxes from the business activity The importance of major stakeholders is moreover
reinforced by David Boddy (2011:96) who argues that stake holders can influence
considerable dominant managers, also the businesses which choose ignore
stakeholders can be in danger of a decline in their business activity. What David
Boddy is essentially trying to convey is stakeholders are an integral part of the
business and managers have to take consideration of these stakeholders when
carrying out business activities, if not then the business may suffer negative
consequences. Stakeholders Expectations on Tesco s Tesco is a British, public

Gene and Vincent
This story is about the fight of the under dog. How are the themes of prejudice and
courage developed in the film GATTACA? Gattaca directed by Andrew Niccol, is
set in a future where science, and not religion, has taken over society. A new form
of discrimination has arisen, called genoism, discrimination according to one s
genetic purity. The story follows a man named Vincent Freeman who was born as a
god child this means he was genetically inferior to people born with the aid of
technology. Vincent faces extreme genetic discrimination and prejudice, making it
harder for his life long dream of being an astronaut. But we soon find that with
courage and determination Vincent can rise up and live his dream despite being...

If Vincent were to be exposed as an invalid he would lose his position and would be
subject to fines. Just like the rest of his life Vincent would be a victim of genetic
discrimination. While all this chaos is happening at Gattaca, we find out that the
detective in charge is Vincent s brother Anton. Anton tries to convince Vincent to
go with him before he is found out by the other detectives. It soon becomes clear
that Anton is doing this more out of insecurity and is more concerned with how
Vincent has managed to get the better of him, despite his supposed genetic
superiority. Vincent and Anton settle their dispute the way they did when they
were kids, by seeing who could swim further out into the ocean. As it happens
Vincent rises up and beats Anton and saves him from drowning. This is simply
because he refused to save any strength for the swim back; he is willing to risk
everything to succeed. This is a perfect example of a fight of the underdog; Vincent
used all his strength and beat his brother despite his genetic disadvantages. In
conclusion, the film shows many themes of prejudice and discrimination towards
Vincent, simply because of his genetic make up, but this film is about the fight of
the underdog and how Vincent rose up and reached his goal despite being put down
his whole life and being inferior to his brother, friends and co workers. As Vincent
says in the film there is no gene for fate simply
What Does When Love Fail Essay
When Love Fail
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 1
Corinthians 13:4
Love unites people. It is a dream come true for many women to find love, get married
and have a family of their own. It is certain that many achieve that goal by marrying
their love of their life, while others have the misfortune of marrying a ceasing
fantasy. In every relationship there is a spark at the beginning, they only see how
beautiful the rose is, but when they find the thorns, in some relationships, the beauty
of the rose is just not enough, as at the same time, others accept the rose how it is.
The disadvantage of marrying someone that not completely accepts you, it s

Smell Disorders
Trailer Stop and smell the roses is a famous idiomatic reference many make when
they want to convey the importance of appreciating the beauty of life. But have
any of us imagined what it may be like to NOT smell the roses or anything for that
matter? Humans often take their sense of smell for granted, as they rely more
heavily on sight and sound in day to day activities. Yet smell in my opinion can be
such an important aspect of life as the brain has the capability to associate smells
with danger and it can even elicit memories. For example, the odorof smoke notifies
us that something dangerous could be happening, or walking into a bakery with the
smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies can cause pleasure, bringing back childhood

The most common causes include head injury (common in young adults) and viral
infections or Alzheimer disease in older adults ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and
Throat Disorders ). Head injuries may result in anosmia due to damage or
destruction to the fibers of the olfactory nerves where they pass through the roof of
the nasal cavity. Sometimes injuries may also cause a fracture to the cribriform
plate ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Infections and tumors near
the cribriform plate also can damage the olfactory nerve. Some less common causes
of anosmia include the overuse of antibiotics ,which may kill off all the olfactory
neurons at once. If the cause is due to sinus infections or irritation, doctors may
suggest a treatment of steam inhalation, nasal sprays, antibiotics, and occasionally
surgery. If a tumor near the cribriform is causing the individual to lack olfactory
abilities, then surgical removal and radiation is typically the course of treatment.
However, in causes where anosmia resulted from head trauma or undiagnosed causes
there are no current treatment options.

Abstract: Sodium chloride is widely used in various industrial, medical and food
applications that increasing human exposure to it by excessive amount. However,
almost all studies focused on its nephrotoxicity and adaptation of kidney cells to high
concentration salt and only few scientific attentions were concerned on its cytoxicity.
Hence, the oxidative DNA damage induction by excessive salt intake in mice was
investigated. mice were orally administrated with three different concentrations
commercial NaCl solution started with concentration at tap water. Second and
third concentrations were (50 100mg/L) orally administrated for 10 successive
days then sacrificed 24 hour after the last orally administrated. Comet assays were
used to evaluate the possible toxicity of excessive salt on DNA levels. Also, some
biochemical markers of kidney were assessed to shed more light on salt mechanism
of action. DNA damage induction by excessive intake of high salt was evidenced by
the statistical significant elevations in both two group. This was further evidenced
by appearance damage of DNA on agarose gel. Moreover, excessive NaCl caused
significant elevation in kidney function level in a dose dependent manner. It was also
noticed that

In the case of Dalman and Lei discrepancy of the time sheet this can be resolved by
using none other than a control system called bureaucratic control system. First to
implement this system they must first understand what this system means. It is
designed to measure progress toward a set goal and to apply corrective measures to
ensure this goal is met. In other words control system is to detect and fix certain
variables and discrepancies turning into results of the ultimate goal. This process is
broken down into four parts. Setting a performance standards, Measuring

Now comes Step 3 which is comparing performance with the standard. This step
Dalman and Lei have their weekly results from their new system they implemented
and compare it with the goals they set. They can see the good and bad results that
came out of the system. Also participants can identify successful actions to
recommend in the future and avoid the mistakes next time around. For example,
let s say a employee had another employee clock in for each other and they didn t
go to the desk in work. The only way they can prove that it was indeed another
employee clocking in would be a camera of some sort. The best place that a camera
would be where the employees clock in. This is one of many examples that Dalman
and Lei can compare the performance with the standard they put in stone. This
comes to the last step of the system and that is taking action to correct the problems
and reinforce the successful ones. The selection of the corrective action depends on
the nature of the problem. If the problem was the system not recording the clocking
in of the employees, than the corrective action would be to call in a specialist control
and help figure out the problem with the system. Dalman and Lei need to keep the
successful standard and throw the non successful ones to the corrective action. To
ensure that the discrepancy doesn t appear or accrue

Landscape Painting as Per Carus s Nine Letters
Carus Nine Letters on Landscape Painting largely expounds upon man s relationship
with nature, and therefore the effects of landscape painting on the human state. Letter
III is essential in gaining a conception of Carus definition of truth and whether he
himself believes this truth is sufficient in landscape painting. In his thesis on
landscape painting, Carus claims that mere truth is not in itself the noblest feature or
sole attraction of the painting stating that a painting must be able to exude the sense
that its existence is a result of the creativity that stems from the human mind. It seems
apparent by way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without the element of sublimity, what would be the need for landscape art?
Landscape art would simply be a duplication of what can be seen directly in nature.
This is precisely Carus point when he asserts that in terms of truth...the painting
[itself] is infinitely inferior (Carus p. 91).
In applying this idea to specific landscape paintings, Carus s thesis becomes more
easily understandable. Friedrich s Two Men Looking at the Moon depicts a
foreground scene in which two men are observing the moon from a nondescript
mountain path. It s monochromatic hues in shades of brown and grey suggest
nightfall. Due to the lack of middle ground in this painting, the foreground contrasts
directly with the on setting night sky, which is depicted in lighter hues of brown.
This contrast not only illuminates the figures in the foreground allowing the viewer
to project oneself into the figures experience with nature but also suggests the
converse relationship of the rational mind with the natural realm. As a result, this
painting essentially embodies Carus s theory. Not only does Friedrich truthfully
capture the essence of nature, but he also allows the spectator to join in on the
moment of contemplation depicted, inducing the critical sense of unity that Carus
discusses in Letter III.
Another integral component Carus discusses in his thesis is the ability of a genuine
work of art to contain a coherent whole, or otherwise serve as a world in
The Natural, Because My Passion Is Sports
I chose the book, The Natural, because my passion is sports. I also heard that The
Natural was a blockbuster in the cinemas so I decided this had to be my choice.
This book did not completely match my expectations. Before I started reading I
expected that The Natural would tell the story of a baseball legend s career and
achievements. The story was almost the exact opposite. Roy Hobbs, a young,
talented, and ambitious baseballplayer goes to Chicago to try out for the Cubs. He
meets a girl, Harriet, on the train to Chicago whom he immediately falls in love
with. Things quickly go wrong as she shoots him when he visits her hotel room in
Chicago. This not only seriously injures him, but also keeps him from playing
professional baseball for 15 years, putting him past his athletic prime. After Roy
enters professional baseball in his thirties, he has a few short years in the league
and eventually cracks up and beats up his coach and manager. He would end up
jobless and never be able to play baseball again. Nothing goes right for Roy and the
baseball gods looks to be against him. The Naturalisn t a story of an athlete s glorious
career as I expected, but a talented player s career and life going to waste. The story
also shows the dark side of sports such as cheating and match fixing. I am undecided
about recommending this book. This story s plot is depressing but reflects the sad
reality of many sports stars past their prime. I would not recommend this book to

Research And Development ( R D ) And Acquisitions
Research and development (R D) and acquisitions are a firm s core areas for
innovation, which sets the stage for its ability to compete in the market based on
what cutting edge technology or ideas the company has gathered. Accordingly,
globalization and increased competition has led companies to become more efficient
and reevaluate whether to outsource R D or to innovate in house. When opting to
outsource, companies should look at their organization at a functional level, and
identify the processes and tasks in order to identify opportunities that can be gained
from outsourcingversus developing in house. Additionally, companies should focus
not on where the innovationoccurs, but rather who will ultimately have control of the

Efficiency of a company turns on being able to produce in the shortest amount of time
while maintaining quality. Thus, outsourcing allows a company to be efficient where
in house the same task could not be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time.
Opting to outsource R D is also a good business strategy when the skillset is not
found within the organization. No matter how talented a company is, it simply
cannot possess all the talent and innovation under one roof. Thus, outsourcing R D
allows companies to utilize talent pools from all over the world. Companies may
even outsource within their own country by hiring contractors or freelancers. For
example, in order to stay competitive, technology companies simply do not have the
time to conduct in house R D. Instead, it is more efficient to outsource or acquire
unique technologies of other companies to expand their technology portfolio
relatively quickly and align itself with talented people. For example, Yahoo, Inc., an
internet search engine tool, acquired Flickr, a photo sharing site a completely
different component than its own. Acquisitions give companies the ability to acquire
a product that is already created; access to a talent pool that has experience
employing the technology; and a market that is familiar with the product. Acquisition
is also a strategic way to eliminate a competitor and become an active player in the
competitive market rather than
The Importance Of Authoritarian Government In South
Korea
Within the last few decades, the internal affairs in South Korea have been anything
but smooth. The public demand for a democratic future is prevalent, but it is
unquestionable that the authoritarian leaders and government have had a larger
impact that any democratic ones. The strong hand of leaders like Syngman Rheeand
Park Chung hee allowed South Koreato persevere through difficult times and explode
onto the international market. The measures leaders in the 60s, 70s, and 80s took to
get Korea to the position of wealth it reached have had some dire consequences that
are still felt today. There is no sign of stopping either, as the country has been
preoccupied with many other issues and has had democracy thrust upon them, leaving
many flaws in the system. The power vacuums, unbalanced social structure, and
violent riots have been constant effects brought on by the rise and fall of South Korea
s authoritarian past. This instability and volatile nature of modern South Korean
government and society is the most well defined and over arching theme caused by
authoritarian policies and decisions
Shorty after Korea declared its independence Syngman Rhee was elected their first
president by a wide margin. However, once he began creating legislation to extend
his presidency and silencing his opposition, it was clear that his rule would be an
authoritarian one. After the April Revolution, a clear precedent was set for
government civilian interaction in Korea. struggle between
The Seal Wolf Sparknotes
The crew of the seal hunting ship the Ghost stood in disbelief as they gazed upon
their recently departed first mate. Then a most unusual thing occurred. The captain
began yelling at the dead man like a raging storm. Oaths rolled from his lips in a
continuous stream. And they were not nice and thoughtful words or mere
expressions of indecency. Each word was a blasphemy, and there were many words.
It is this lack of remorse for others that defines Wolf Larsen, the antagonist in The
Seal Wolf by Jack London. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; From the beginning of the

The forecastle was like an angry hive of bees aroused by some intruder. No man
less than a giant could have accomplished what Wolf Larsen did next. Step by step,
by the might of his arms, the whole pack of men striving to drag him back and
down, he drew his body up from the floor until he stood upright. The captain then
proceeded to make his way up the ladder thus freeing him from this group of
murderous tyrants. The whole crew of the Ghost hated Wolf with a great passion,
but no one could do anything because his strength and fighting ability were
unmatched. The second aspect of Wolf Larsen that makes him so great is his
mind. Larsen was born and bred on the sea. Wolf never saw the inside of a
schoolhouse. He taught himself everything he knew by reading the great works of
American literature. Poetry and novels are the only thing that can take Wolf s
mind off the sea. Through his learning he developed a quot;live for yourself only
quot; theory on life. You could use such words as egocentric or arrogant to
describe Wolf s trust no one attitude. But it s easy to see that he got that complete
self reliance from his childhood. Wolf didn t have any parents that ever took care
of him. As soon as he was of a decent age (around 10) he was on the boats as a cabin
boy making his living. He taught himself reading and writing. The only thing Wolf
could be thankful for is the body he was given, everything else he got on his own.

Socialist Concepts in The Jungle by Upton Sinclair The beginning of the book
starts out at Jurgis and Ona s wedding, or more specifically, the after party. This
scene establishes how these two main characters look, and how they and the rest
of the characters act. Jurgis is a big man with thick black hair that goes nearly to
his eyes. He is very muscular and well built. Ona is a small woman; her whole
body is able to disappear in Jurgis s arms. She is soft spoken, little in appearance
and in personality. Cousin Marija is a big woman; she is established in the first part
of the book as a very pushy and loud person. At the after ceremony of the weeding,

At the beginning, only Jurgis worked, he would not have Ona working. It was not
long until it was realized that she would have to work, along with the children and
the old and the sick. Everyone would have to work in order to keep alive, in order
to feed each other and keep warm in the winter. The difficulty of finding a job in
Packingtown was hard enough. The characters also had to walk to work everyday,
often in below zero temperatures. The book also describes the process of speeding
up . Men would have to work at a pace unthinkable to modern society. People were
literally worked to death. There were always accidents at work and dying was not
unusual. The book also describes the horrible processes of the meat packing

Traveling Through The Dark Rhyme Scheme
Traveling through the Dark by William E. Stafford
In the poem Traveling through the Dark by William E. Stafford, there is a individual
that had been peacefully traveling alongside a mountainside road, and he spots a
dead female deer that had been recently killed. Upon closer inspection of the deer, it
appeared that she was pregnant with a fawn that was never to be born. This gave
the speaker a sense of hesitation, while he attempted to come up with a plan that
would address the carcass lying in the middle of the road. The sheer rush of
adrenaline that the speaker had faced, as the wilderness watched his every move. The
wilderness in this story, had held the title as the natural world, everything that has
ever existed, and anything that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right off the bat, we can tell that this poem is based on the free verse type of poetry,
as it doesn t have any particular rhyming scheme. It only occasionally contained half
rhymes, such as the words road and dead . Stafford was known for not having a rhyme
scheme in his poems, although occasionally in a few of his poems, he would like
to include it. Seeing as though there was no regular rhyme scheme, we are also
able to tell that the poem does in fact have a irregular meter, meaning there is little
to no rhyme between the lines. Now we venture off into diction, which stands for
the choice of words while writing to convey a typical mood. While reading the
poem, we can see the speaker trying to paint a picture of a gloomy night. He
demonstrates this by saying: traveling through the dark , that road is narrow; to
swerve might make more dead and finally, then pushed her over the edge into the
river. Stafford wanted to make us feel the same stress the speaker was in at the
time, by painting this picture, so we the readers can envision what is actually
happening. If we move on to imagery, we can see that when the speaker states that
the doe was large in the belly, inferring that there is a unborn fawn in the deer. This
was an example of fine imagery, to which the speaker wanted to demonstrate a vivid

Donna Dubinsky
I. Why was Donna so successful during her first 4 years at Apple before the JIT
dispute? Dubinsky s advanced because: (1) her division delivers results, (2) her
individual performance is strong, (3) Apple s environment permits rapid
advancement, and (4) her boss helps her. 1.Sales delivered strong results, and
Dubinsky was a recognized positive contributor to it. Dubinsky s group performed
well on key metrics including dealer satisfaction, supporting new product launches
without delay, and scaling up operations as the Company grew. Her group had no
complaints from other Apple divisions about costs, or from dealer customers about
inventory availability, demonstrating strong logistics performance. She was playing
for a winning team. 2.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But, it is also possible that Dubinsky relied too much on Weaver and was afraid of
change, became complacent, and missed a chance to work in a sexy group,
advance, and build relationships with other powerful allies. 2.Surprisingly for a
Harvard MBA, Dubinsky was cavalier about gathering data to prove she was
performing strongly. She believed lack of dealer complaints wasipso facto proof of
strong execution. She could not prove that her Distribution system presented fewer
dealer complaints than Commodore s, or had a faster delivery schedule than IBM s,
or was cheaper and more efficient than Tandy s. When Jobs later challenged her
results, she lacked routine benchmarking to rebut his criticisms. Dubinsky left herself
vulnerable to a hypothesis that her measure of success lack of dealer complaints was
not actually a success, but instead evidence that Apple was bearing too much of the
inventory carrying expense in the supplier dealer relationship. If Dubinsky had
gathered comparative data in the ordinary course to measure her performance, she
could have forcefully defended herself against Jobs JIT attack. 3.Dubinsky
demonstrated some lack of initiative. She thought the problem in Apple s supply
chain was inaccurate demand forecasting by the manufacturing groups, but she seems
to have made no effort to address that problem. Thus, her warehouses had three years
of gluts and troughs, which directly led to Jobs JIT argument. This

Identifying Unknown Solutions In Bottles
The aim of this experiment is to be able to identify the unknown solutions within the
three different bottles. In this experiment a flame test and a solubility test were
conducted in order to identify the unknown solutions. It is hypothesised that the
flame test will be successful in identifying which cation (sodium, potassium and
strontium) is in which solution through the colour of the flame. It is also predicted
that the precipitate tests will successfully identify the anions (carbonate, sulphate and
chloride) by testing the solubilityof the solutions. The dependant variable is the
chemicals in the unknown solutions. The independent variable is the flame test and
precipitate test and the controlled variable is the unknown solutions which are tested.

The theory behind a flame test was first discovered by Niels Bohr in 1913 (Universe
Today, 2009). The Bohr Theory states that when electrons go from large energy
levels to smaller energy levels, energy is released. If the released energy is in the
visible spectrum of light (refer to appendix B) it will appear as a colour. This occurs
in a flame test as the electrons in the metal ion become highly energetic through
absorbing the energy from the heat of the flame (Clark, 2005). Due to the high
energy levels, the electrons are in a very unstable condition which causes the
energy levels to suddenly move to low. This shows that the electrons have moved
closer to the nucleus (TutorVista, n.d.). These drops may occur in one go or in
multiple drops to return to a low energy level (Compound Interest, n.d.). These
abrupt drops of the energy levels release energy which is displayed through a
colourful flame. The flame test however is only suitable for cations, not

Rev. Rul. 72 519, 1972 2 Cum. Bull. 32 Deposits intended to secure income
producing covenants are advance payments taxable as income upon receipt, while
deposits intended to secure non income producing covenants are not. From the
information not given it appears that the funds received were comingled with the
direct funds of Peaceful and Peaceful had the right to exercise the funds as Peaceful
sees fit. There is no mention that these funds were kept separate or in an escrow
designated for the sole purpose of being a deposit. Furthermore the prepayments were
specifically made in conjunction of securing future goods and services and not in the
express obligation of return of funds.
Secs. 1.446 1(c)(1)(ii), Under the accrual method, income is to be included for the
taxable year when all events have occurred that fix the right to receive the income and
the amount of the income can be determined with reasonable accuracy. 1.451 1(a),
Income Tax Regs. Typically, all events that fix the right to receive income have
occurred upon the earliest of the following to take place: The income is (1) actually
or constructively received; (2) due; or (3) earned by performance. When Peaceful
receives prepaid income it has constructively received payment for further goods and
services and the income
Marketing As A One Dimensional Discipline
According to the definition from AMA (American marketing association),
marketing is an activity that can leads to creation, delivery as well as exchange of
products and services that are available to consumers and society at large
(AMA,2016). In marketing studies, Hackley (2009) said that marketing has been
considered as a one dimensional discipline to solve problems. It simply means that
similar results can be attained by just following one marketingactivity or aspect.
There is an availability of several marketing tools such as advertisement, direct mail,
and social media etc. (Seegebarth and et.al2015), but Norman (2016) states that the
tools that mentioned above are a set of standalone activities but adhering with just
one amongst, all that may not get much results to company as the combination of
two or even more tools will. This is one dimensional marketing when a company
chooses a single tool and nothing else (Norman, 2016). The report has emphasized on
critically evaluating the statement made by Hackley (2009) which states that there
has been a development of many new marketing forms but it still considered as a one
dimensional problem solving discipline (Hackley,2009). However, take examples of
marketing concept together into marketing, why one dimensional discipline popular?
And on the other hand, maybe one dimensional is not fit in used for the foreseeable
future.
If a company with marketing orientation has importance to make sure
Examples Of Regression In Jane Eyre
Does Bella Swan represent progress or regression in the portrayal of female
empowerment compared to Jane Eyre? History is the base and foundation that is
set to make a brighter and better future. The future is developed through mistakes
and faults that have been made right, as human beings are learning creatures that
require the process of constant trial and error. Yet in the world of fiction and
literature, this has not been the case. Two immensely well known, famous and
loved novel from their respective generations, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and
the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer, has been set as the representative case of the
regression in the portrayal of female empowerment over time. The book Jane Eyre
was published in 1847 as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a feminist, Jane is able to protect herself when she is in a situation where she
needs to be defended. For instance, when her brutish older cousin John hurls a
hardcover book at her head, she pounces back by attacking him in defense. She
also faces no difficulty in successfully defeating her cold hearted aunt in a verbal
fight, just at the tender age of ten. Jane is surely unafraid of the consequences that
she has to face on actions that she believes as rightfully done. This amazing trait
remains even as she proceeds into adulthood and meets the love of her life. She is
able to deal with, and even stand up to Mr. Rochester s unreasonable verbal attacks
directed at her. She clearly shows her dauntless side of her personality, by speaking
her own mind when Mr. Rochester demands for the money that he had given her.
Jane refuses clear cut, and Mr. Rochester asks to then at least let him see the cash.
Jane refuses again by retorting that he is not to be trusted. Jane has an honest and
truthful soul who knows how to speak for herself, unlike many women during this
period of time. Jane is never concerned about what other people would think of her
if she tells them the exact truth about everything. She is able to inform her
departure by cancelling off the wedding between herself and Mr. Rochester after
what she had witnessed and experienced. Jane cries out you are a married man or
as good as a married man, and wed to one inferior to you to one with whom you
have no sympathy whom I do not believe you truly love; for I have seen and heard
you sneer at her. I would scorn such a union: therefore I am better than you let me
go! Jane is able to truthfully utter her thoughts, her true opinion without being
afraid; even if it was to someone she dearly loved. When Mr. Rochester angrily
cries out, Jane, be still; don t struggle so, like a wild frantic bird that is rending its
own plumage in its

Which is why there is usually no positive impacts when referring to water pollution as it is a major global problem. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies. It exist as a result of harmful substances being inserted into water bodies whether purposely or accidently. When observed it has an affect on the entire ecological system, and most occurrences negatively impact whole species as it is the leading cause of death and disease. On account of water being an vital component of life on Earth, if it is indeed contaminated, it will deplete the health of the plant and every living thing on it. Background of the Study Water pollution can affect the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and they can become contaminated. • 3. Spinal Cord Injury Analysis The second article I chose to summarize discusses the rehabilitation process on a rat with a spinal cord injury. The method they used to rehabilitate the rats spinal cord was by electrically stimulating neurons that would normally be stimulated if the rats spinal cord was not damaged. The whole purpose of the study was to find a way to help people who are experiencing spinal corddamage which can severely limit the way a person carries out day to day activities. • 4. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House Essay Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House Ibsens s play is a modern tragedy which functions on two levels, questioning the established social order of the day and presenting the death of a marriage. Both these events create a great deal of tension, and combined with the language and actions used by the characters, make the play very intense. The main cause of dramatic tension throughout the play is the way that the difference between the real nature of the characters and the roles they are assigned by society is presented. This difference is demonstrated by the disparity in the action of the characters in comparison with their lexical choice. The initial impression given by the opening scene is of a happy traditional household. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The contrast between Nora s language as she speaks to Krogstad and that used towards Helmer shows her increasing anxiety as she begins to threaten him, When one is in a humble position, Mr Krogstad, one should think twice before offending someone who hm ! The continual use of the third person, one , shows Nora attempting to draw attention to her social status and so regain some control and authority over the situation. The fact that Krogstad is of lower social status yet has the audacity to threaten Nora would be somewhat shocking to the audience of the day, Do as you please. But I tell you this. If I get thrown into the gutter for a second time, I shall take you with me. The monosyllabic words and simple sentences, as well as the imperative Do as you please used by Krogstad, ensure that his threats have a lot of impact both on Nora and the audience. The harsh sound of the verb shall reasserts his authority and emphasises his power. Language also builds up tension in the play by displaying Nora s desperation and therefore informing the audience of the significance of the situation she is in. Nora talks to herself more and more towards the climax of the play in frenzied and frantic sentences, Corrupt my little children ! Poison my home! It isn t true! It couldn t be true! After traveling from the East to the land of the Tartar they reached the Kublai Khan court. The Khan questioned them about the Catholic faith and asked them to return to Europe and request the pope to send missionaries. However, when the two explorers returned they learned that Pope Clement was dead. After that discovery they also revealed Nicolo s wife had died while giving birth to a son, who is now in his teenage years. After the passing of the Pope there was a long delay in naming a new one. Marco Polo discovered trade and religion that has brought the world together today. The beginning of their journey led to them being accepted into the Kublai KhanCourt. This journey took place across deserts, mountains, and seas in East Asia, continuing along the Silk Road, and through regions that were unknown to the Western World. Also, they had many encounters with creatures, plants, and humans from different cultures. Through acceptance and service, Marco Polo was led to places far away that were rich of gems, gold, and silk. Yet, when participating in a military conflict in 1298 he was taken captive. When did these institutions, once considered virtuous and just, become the hallmark of inequality? On September 27th, 2015, Pope Francis remarked on a visit to a Philadelphia jail It is painful when we see prison systems, which are not concerned to care for wounds, to soothe pain, to offer new possibilities, a moving sentiment that would soon resonate with the American population. Unbeknownst to many listening to his gripping words, в…“ of the world s female prison population is incarcerated in the United States. And if the magnitude of that figure does not astound you, maybe the fact that every 1 in 15 American prisoners are black, while only 1 in 106 prisoners are white, will. These statistics reported by Harper s Index embody the blatant corruption of the American incarcerationsystem and the innate institutionalized racism the U.S has sustained throughout history. Since the inception of the United States, the government has had one definitive purpose: to protect the people s rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. These prerogatives established a framework for the optimal democratic society, one that would be impartial and benevolent. However, the entire non white population is barred from sharing in these rights. One of the major ways these rights are denied is through incarceration. The Food Waste And Recycling Food Waste Recycling There are billions of people struggling every day to have enough to eat, and billions of tons of food being tossed in the garbage, food waste is gaining increasing awareness as a serious environmental and economic issue. Research shows that about 60 million metric tons of food is wasted a year in the United States, with an estimated value of $162 billion. About 32 million tons of it end up in landfills, at a cost of about $1.5 billion a year to local government this economic crisis is worldwide! My research estimates that a third of all the food produced in the world is never consumed, and the total cost of that food waste could be as high as $400 billion a year. The food discarded by retailers and consumers in the most developed countries would be more than enough to feed all of the world s hungry people, but it is not just those countries that have problems with food waste, it is also an issue in African countries like South Africa. The problem is expected to grow worse as the world s population increases, unless actions are taken to reduce the waste. Food waste is not only a social cost, but it contributes to growing environmental problems like global warming, experts say, with the production of food consuming vast quantities of water, fertilizer and land. The fuel that is burned to process, refrigerate and transport it also adds to the environmental cost. Most food waste is thrown away in landfills, where it decomposes and emits methane, a potent

Improving The Best Of Existing State Standards Structuring on the best of existing state standards, the Common Core State Standards provide a clear and reliable learning goal to help prepare students for college, career, and life. The standards clearly demonstrate what students are expected to learn at each grade level, so that every parent and teacher can understand and support their learning. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, grade by grade standards exist in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. From 9th through 12th grade, the standards are grouped into grade sets of 9th through 10th grade standards and 11th through 12th grade standards. Moreover, the CCSS stress the importance of using primary texts in the classroom to build literacy, along with many other things. While the standards set grade specific goals, they do not define how the standards should be taught or which materials should be used to support students. States and districts know that there will need to be a range of supports in place to guarantee that all students, including those with special needs and English language learners, can master the standards. It is up to the states to outline the full range of supports appropriate for these students. Since the release of the final standards in 2010, a two party mix of organizations representing parents, teachers, business leaders, and other key voices have strongly supported the Common Core State Standards. McGrath suggests that Feminism is a global movement, arguing for gender equality and a right understanding of the relationship between women and men to be affirmed by contemporary theology and practice (McGrath, 2011: p.88). Thus, when discussing wisdom in the scriptures the feminists are observing how gender is represented and the effect of this representation upon helping or hindering a right relationship between the genders. Rather it compels us to continue the struggle with conventional masculine language for God and the exclusivist authoritarian functions and implications of such language. Feminist theology must rearticulate the symbols, images, and names of Divine Sophia in the context of our own experiences and theological struggles in such a way that the ossified and absolutized masculine language about God and Christ is radically questioned and undermined and the Western cultural sex/gender system is radically deconstructed (Fiorenza, 1995: p.162). Therefore Fiorenza believes that the language signifying feminine impetus of God is a way of realising gender equality and thus a better understanding of the relationship between genders which has been oppressed too long by the over emphasis on masculinity. Fiorenza further explains that without the loving attention and divine care as embodied and made present in the figure of Divine Sophia the true meaning of the Father is diminished (Fiorenza, 1995: p.154) Another feminist theologian, Johnson, also suggests that reclaiming the feminine Wisdom could challenge the patriarchy embedded in classical Christology. Johnson realized as discussed above, that the early Christian s use of personified Wisdom was a developmental step in the understanding

The Victorians were convinced ghosts were dangerous though, evil spirits believed either to get them, to possess the living or to do the devil s work. People in the 19th century were also intrigued by the after life, including what happened when you actually died. Henry James family was also included in this. This would give Henry James a perfect reason to write the novella aimed at a huge proportion of people who would be actually interested in reading a book involving ghosts. As The Turn of the Screw was written in the 19th century when most of his family were famous and praised for their study of the mind and investigations into spirit phenomena, this could have inspired Henry to write the story. The fact that his older brother was famous and successful man when it came to psychology and physiology may have contributed to sibling rivalry. Henry had written novels that hadn t sold well and had written plays that were far too intellectual for many of the general public to even watch. Writing a psychological ghost story in a spirit obsessed era when his family were renowned for their knowledge seems to be best explanation as to why the novella was written. An Essay Comparing Joshua and Jesus At first glance Joshua seems to just be a story of the Israelites and the settling of the Promised Land, however, there may also be a prophetic vision of God s plan for Salvation of His people. The book of Joshua shows the difference between living a life, like Moses, under the Law of the Old Testament and under the freedom, which came from JesusChrist, as Joshua did. One could certainly make a strong case that Joshua 1 6 can be looked at as a metaphor of Jesus Christ and man s salvation through Him. The evidence ranges from Joshua s name to the meaning of the Jordan River. Since the law was not the complete solution to the problem of man and sin, what was? The people needed some kind of medium to be able to cross from sin into a relationship with God. This medium would come from God sending His son, Jesus, to help cross the river . This was just as how God chose Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. They are no longer bound by the hopelessness of trying to live a perfect life under the law. Aside from the similarities between the actual stories, there is other evidence to support the connection between Joshua and Jesus, such as the actual names of the two. According to Uittenbogaard, in Hebrew Joshua is actually composed of two parts. The first part directly means the name of God, or YHWH. The second part of Joshua means to save or to deliver . When put together the common English translation is The Lord saves . Joshua is also from the original Hebrew form of the Greek name Jesus. During the ministry of Jesus, both names may have been very similar in pronunciation, if not the same altogether (Uittenbogaard). It was agreed that a system of reform would prove more effective than imprisonment when it came to producing law abiding citizens. While parole has its origins in America, it underwent revision on Norfolk Island in a British penal colony operated by Alexander Maconochie, now referred to as the В“father of paroleВ”. This system, where prisoners were allowed increasing levels of freedom and other benefits in reward for good behaviour and productivity, laid the groundwork for the modern parole system in use today, though there have been modifications made in response to changing political and economic situations, as well as legal challenges. For example, the odorof smoke notifies us that something dangerous could be happening, or walking into a bakery with the smell of fresh chocolate chip cookies can cause pleasure, bringing back childhood memories... The most common causes include head injury (common in young adults) and viral infections or Alzheimer disease in older adults ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Head injuries may result in anosmia due to damage or destruction to the fibers of the olfactory nerves where they pass through the roof of the nasal cavity. Sometimes injuries may also cause a fracture to the cribriform plate ( Loss of Smell Ear,Nose, and Throat Disorders ). Infections and tumors near the cribriform plate also can damage the olfactory nerve. Some less common causes of anosmia include the overuse of antibiotics ,which may kill off all the olfactory neurons at once. If the cause is due to sinus infections or irritation, doctors may suggest a treatment of steam inhalation, nasal sprays, antibiotics, and occasionally surgery. If a tumor near the cribriform is causing the individual to lack olfactory abilities, then surgical removal and radiation is typically the course of treatment. However, in causes where anosmia resulted from head trauma or undiagnosed causes there are no current treatment options. Additional

However, almost all studies focused on its nephrotoxicity and adaptation of kidney cells to high concentration salt and only few scientific attentions were concerned on its cytoxicity. Hence, the oxidative DNA damage induction by excessive salt intake in mice was investigated. mice were orally administrated with three different concentrations commercial NaCl solution started with concentration at tap water. Second and third concentrations were (50 100mg/L) orally administrated for 10 successive days then sacrificed 24 hour after the last orally administrated. Comet assays were used to evaluate the possible toxicity of excessive salt on DNA levels. Also, some biochemical markers of kidney were assessed to shed more light on salt mechanism of action. DNA damage induction by excessive intake of high salt was evidenced by the statistical significant elevations in both two group. This was further evidenced by appearance damage of DNA on agarose gel. Moreover, excessive NaCl caused significant elevation in kidney function level in a dose dependent manner. It was also noticed that

First to implement this system they must first understand what this system means. It is designed to measure progress toward a set goal and to apply corrective measures to ensure this goal is met. In other words control system is to detect and fix certain variables and discrepancies turning into results of the ultimate goal. This process is broken down into four parts. Setting a performance standards, Measuring performance, comparing performance again the standards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now comes Step 3 which is comparing performance with the standard. This step Dalman and Lei have their weekly results from their new system they implemented and compare it with the goals they set. They can see the good and bad results that came out of the system. Also participants can identify successful actions to recommend in the future and avoid the mistakes next time around. For example, let s say a employee had another employee clock in for each other and they didn t go to the desk in work. The only way they can prove that it was indeed another employee clocking in would be a camera of some sort. The best place that a camera would be where the employees clock in. This is one of many examples that Dalman and Lei can compare the performance with the standard they put in stone. This comes to the last step of the system and that is taking action to correct the problems and reinforce the successful ones. The selection of the corrective action depends on the nature of the problem. If the problem was the system not recording the clocking in of the employees, than the corrective action would be to call in a specialist control and help figure out the problem with the system. Dalman and Lei need to keep the successful standard and throw the non successful ones to the corrective action. To ensure that the discrepancy doesn t appear or accrue

German Art/Architecture Professor Wood 25 September 2017 Landscape Painting as Per Carus s Nine Letters Carus Nine Letters on Landscape Painting largely expounds upon man s relationship with nature, and therefore the effects of landscape painting on the human state. Letter III is essential in gaining a conception of Carus definition of truth and whether he himself believes this truth is sufficient in landscape painting. In his thesis on landscape painting, Carus claims that mere truth is not in itself the noblest feature or sole attraction of the painting stating that a painting must be able to exude the sense that its existence is a result of the creativity that stems from the human mind. It seems apparent by way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without the element of sublimity, what would be the need for landscape art? Landscape art would simply be a duplication of what can be seen directly in nature. This is precisely Carus point when he asserts that in terms of truth...the painting [itself] is infinitely inferior (Carus p. 91). In applying this idea to specific landscape paintings, Carus s thesis becomes more easily understandable. Friedrich s Two Men Looking at the Moon depicts a foreground scene in which two men are observing the moon from a nondescript mountain path. It s monochromatic hues in shades of brown and grey suggest nightfall. Due to the lack of middle ground in this painting, the foreground contrasts directly with the on setting night sky, which is depicted in lighter hues of brown. This contrast not only illuminates the figures in the foreground allowing the viewer to project oneself into the figures experience with nature but also suggests the converse relationship of the rational mind with the natural realm. As a result, this painting essentially embodies Carus s theory. Not only does Friedrich truthfully capture the essence of nature, but he also allows the spectator to join in on the moment of contemplation depicted, inducing the critical sense of unity that Carus discusses in Letter III. Another integral component Carus discusses in his thesis is the ability of a genuine work of art to contain a coherent whole, or otherwise serve as a world in
  • 28. The Natural, Because My Passion Is Sports I chose the book, The Natural, because my passion is sports. I also heard that The Natural was a blockbuster in the cinemas so I decided this had to be my choice. This book did not completely match my expectations. Before I started reading I expected that The Natural would tell the story of a baseball legend s career and achievements. The story was almost the exact opposite. Roy Hobbs, a young, talented, and ambitious baseballplayer goes to Chicago to try out for the Cubs. He meets a girl, Harriet, on the train to Chicago whom he immediately falls in love with. Things quickly go wrong as she shoots him when he visits her hotel room in Chicago. This not only seriously injures him, but also keeps him from playing professional baseball for 15 years, putting him past his athletic prime. After Roy enters professional baseball in his thirties, he has a few short years in the league and eventually cracks up and beats up his coach and manager. He would end up jobless and never be able to play baseball again. Nothing goes right for Roy and the baseball gods looks to be against him. The Naturalisn t a story of an athlete s glorious career as I expected, but a talented player s career and life going to waste. The story also shows the dark side of sports such as cheating and match fixing. I am undecided about recommending this book. This story s plot is depressing but reflects the sad reality of many sports stars past their prime. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is

That entire day would be considered as my crowning achievement because before she was born, my doctor told me that there was a very high chance that I could give birth around 20 weeks and even miscarry before then due to my bicornuate uterus. A bicornuate uterus is where the uterus has two horns and usually the baby can only grow in one side, so it lowers the survival chance of the baby. Efficiency of a company turns on being able to produce in the shortest amount of time while maintaining quality. Thus, outsourcing allows a company to be efficient where in house the same task could not be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. Opting to outsource R D is also a good business strategy when the skillset is not found within the organization. No matter how talented a company is, it simply cannot possess all the talent and innovation under one roof. Thus, outsourcing R D allows companies to utilize talent pools from all over the world. Companies may even outsource within their own country by hiring contractors or freelancers. For example, in order to stay competitive, technology companies simply do not have the time to conduct in house R D. Instead, it is more efficient to outsource or acquire unique technologies of other companies to expand their technology portfolio relatively quickly and align itself with talented people. For example, Yahoo, Inc., an internet search engine tool, acquired Flickr, a photo sharing site a completely different component than its own. Acquisitions give companies the ability to acquire a product that is already created; access to a talent pool that has experience employing the technology; and a market that is familiar with the product. Acquisition is also a strategic way to eliminate a competitor and become an active player in the competitive market rather than

Right off the bat, we can tell that this poem is based on the free verse type of poetry, as it doesn t have any particular rhyming scheme. It only occasionally contained half rhymes, such as the words road and dead . Stafford was known for not having a rhyme scheme in his poems, although occasionally in a few of his poems, he would like to include it. Seeing as though there was no regular rhyme scheme, we are also able to tell that the poem does in fact have a irregular meter, meaning there is little to no rhyme between the lines. Now we venture off into diction, which stands for the choice of words while writing to convey a typical mood. While reading the poem, we can see the speaker trying to paint a picture of a gloomy night. He demonstrates this by saying: traveling through the dark , that road is narrow; to swerve might make more dead and finally, then pushed her over the edge into the river. Stafford wanted to make us feel the same stress the speaker was in at the time, by painting this picture, so we the readers can envision what is actually happening. If we move on to imagery, we can see that when the speaker states that the doe was large in the belly, inferring that there is a unborn fawn in the deer. This was an example of fine imagery, to which the speaker wanted to demonstrate a vivid idea

She believed lack of dealer complaints wasipso facto proof of strong execution. She could not prove that her Distribution system presented fewer dealer complaints than Commodore s, or had a faster delivery schedule than IBM s, or was cheaper and more efficient than Tandy s. When Jobs later challenged her results, she lacked routine benchmarking to rebut his criticisms. Dubinsky left herself vulnerable to a hypothesis that her measure of success lack of dealer complaints was not actually a success, but instead evidence that Apple was bearing too much of the inventory carrying expense in the supplier dealer relationship. If Dubinsky had gathered comparative data in the ordinary course to measure her performance, she could have forcefully defended herself against Jobs JIT attack. 3.Dubinsky demonstrated some lack of initiative. The theory behind a flame test was first discovered by Niels Bohr in 1913 (Universe Today, 2009). The Bohr Theory states that when electrons go from large energy levels to smaller energy levels, energy is released. If the released energy is in the visible spectrum of light (refer to appendix B) it will appear as a colour. This occurs in a flame test as the electrons in the metal ion become highly energetic through absorbing the energy from the heat of the flame (Clark, 2005). Due to the high energy levels, the electrons are in a very unstable condition which causes the energy levels to suddenly move to low. This shows that the electrons have moved closer to the nucleus (TutorVista, n.d.). These drops may occur in one go or in multiple drops to return to a low energy level (Compound Interest, n.d.). These abrupt drops of the energy levels release energy which is displayed through a colourful flame. The flame test however is only suitable for cations, not

Marketing As A One Dimensional Discipline According to the definition from AMA (American marketing association), marketing is an activity that can leads to creation, delivery as well as exchange of products and services that are available to consumers and society at large (AMA,2016). In marketing studies, Hackley (2009) said that marketing has been considered as a one dimensional discipline to solve problems. It simply means that similar results can be attained by just following one marketingactivity or aspect. There is an availability of several marketing tools such as advertisement, direct mail, and social media etc. (Seegebarth and et.al2015), but Norman (2016) states that the tools that mentioned above are a set of standalone activities but adhering with just one amongst, all that may not get much results to company as the combination of two or even more tools will. This is one dimensional marketing when a company chooses a single tool and nothing else (Norman, 2016). The report has emphasized on critically evaluating the statement made by Hackley (2009) which states that there has been a development of many new marketing forms but it still considered as a one dimensional problem solving discipline (Hackley,2009).
