Good Expository Essays
Writing an essay on the subject of "Good Expository Essays" can present both challenges and
opportunities for the author. The difficulty lies in the need for a comprehensive understanding of
the characteristics that define a well-crafted expository essay. It requires a thorough grasp of the
topic, the ability to organize thoughts logically, and a skillful use of language to convey
information in a clear and concise manner.
To start with, one must delve into the nuances of expository writing, which entails presenting
facts, explaining ideas, and providing a thorough analysis without expressing personal opinions.
Crafting a good expository essay demands a disciplined approach to research, ensuring that the
information presented is accurate, relevant, and supports the main thesis.
The writer must carefully consider the target audience, tailoring the content to their level of
understanding and interest. Striking the right balance between complexity and simplicity is
crucial, as the essay should be accessible to a wide readership while maintaining a level of
intellectual rigor.
Structurally, the essay must have a well-defined introduction, body, and conclusion. The
introduction should captivate the reader's attention, provide context, and present a clear thesis
statement. The body of the essay should be organized logically, with each paragraph dedicated
to a specific aspect or supporting detail. Transition sentences should guide the reader seamlessly
through the essay.
Clarity is paramount in expository essays. Complex ideas should be explained with precision,
and the use of jargon or ambiguous language should be avoided. Additionally, the essay should
exhibit a cohesive flow, ensuring that each section builds upon the previous one to reinforce the
central argument.
Concluding an expository essay requires summarizing the key points and restating the thesis in a
memorable way. The conclusion should leave a lasting impression on the reader and reinforce the
significance of the information presented.
In conclusion, while the task of writing a good expository essay may pose challenges, it is an
exercise in honing one's research, analytical, and communication skills. With dedication and
attention to detail, an author can navigate the intricacies of this genre and produce an essay that
informs, educates, and engages the reader.

The Death Of Juliet In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare s most acclaimed and tragic pieces
of literature. In this story of two young star crossed lovers , Romeo and Juliet fall
in love at first sight. However, they are doomed to only be able to be in love for a
brief time since they will take their own lives. When Romeo thinks that Juliet is
dead , he drinks the deadly poison he bought from an apothecary, but Juliet wakes
up barely a moment after just to find him dead. She stabs herself in the heart, killing
herself to be with Romeo. Of course, this isn t all there is to this tragedy, even
though Romeo and Juliet themselves are the most responsible for the outcome of the
story. There are several other characters in the play and many, if not all,... Show more

In Act III, Scene 1, several events lead to the banishment of Romeo from Verona.
Mercutio deliberately enrages the short tempered Tybalt Capulet even further by
playing with Tybalt s words and making puns and jokes out of them. Mercutio then
proceeds to fight Romeo s battle, not knowing Romeo is not fighting Tybalt only
because he recently got married to Juliet. When Romeo tries to stop Mercutio and
Tybalt from dueling, Mercutio gets killed by Tybalt. In rage, Romeo avenges
Mercutio and fatally stabs Tybalt. These events make the Prince banish Romeo from
Verona and we all know what happens after his banishment. Several unfortunate
timings and events lead Romeo killing himself with poison and then Juliet with a
sword. If only Mercutio didn t find it necessary for him to fight Tybalt. Maybe it
wouldn t have even been a tragedy
Adaptive Immunity
1.Describe how and why both types of adaptive immunity can cause problems with
organ transplantation.
Problems can be caused via both types of adaptive immunity because they are
frameworks made to help keep up homeostasis inside the body. Cytotoxic T cells are a
piece of the cell intervened kind of versatile resistance. When particular outside cells
are identified in the body these cells become activated. Cytotoxic T cells specifically
assault attacking antigens inside the body. Antibody mediated immunity contains B
cells that changes into plasma layer that integrates and secretes antibodies that bind to
and deactivate particular antigens in the bodies fluids. An organ transplant cells for

The Integration Of The European Union
The European Union [hereinafter referred to as the EU] has sought to establish a
uniform citizenship regime that both acknowledges and respects the demands of its
Member States. The task of creating uniformity has been complicated by the
seemingly divergent legal, political and social norms that exist within the borders of
its constituting States. Combined, these conflicting positions have created an
environment whereby integration through citizenship into the EU as a collective, and
its Member States, lacks in both substantive and material value. Together, the existing
legal and social norms of this collective has produced a complicated web that
prohibits, albeit not necessarily intentionally, the integration of migrants who are
seeking to establish themselves within European culture. For migrants who may lack
the necessary resources, economic or other, there exists the potential to face
prohibitive regimes that deny, or, provide limited access to resources that would
assist in the integration process. Asylum seekers and refugees are often on the
frontlines when it comes to navigating through the complicated realities created by
the EU and its Member States. As such, asylum seekers and refugees are often put
into a position where their displacement serves as the foundation for the continuance
of displacement; whether that be legal, political or social. The goal of this paper is
to provide insight into how and why asylum seekers and refugees encounter

Freedom Is A Basic Human Right
Freedom is a basic human right, but nevertheless it is obvious, that not everybody is
in the position to make use of it because it has been disregarded and trampled on
throughout the ages.
Freedom is also the circumstance of being internal control. A major conflict that
comes in when the freedom appears is when non white people are being discriminated
or self discriminated. Throughout time mankind had to fight for freedom, because
there were always human beings who considered this basic right to be reserved for
themselves and a few other like minded individuals. I don t espect for everyone to
agree with me base on my difinition. There s many different types of freedom,
Freedom of the press, Freedom of the assembly, Freedom of expression, Freedom of
speech, Freedom religion, and many more. Being from a different country that

America had lost their freedom.

A Long Way From Chicago Character Analysis
Stealing food and using it to feed someone is an example of what is used
throughout the fictional novel, A Long Way From Chicago, copyright date 1997.
Joey and Mary Alice visit Grandma Dowdel s home from Chicago every summer.
Each year for seven years they learn that kindness can be shown in different ways.
Similarly, Grandma Dowdel displays acts of kindness by stealing, cheating, and
lying however in the end, changes the peoples lives for the better. Richard Peck uses
the events of his novel, A Long Way From Chicago to convey the universal theme,
kindness can be shown in many ways. The first reason that supports this theme is that
Grandma Dowdel feeds Aunt Puss Chapman and the drifters even though she could
have gotten arrested for catching the food illegally. The author states that the trap
used to catch the fish was a fish trap. Fish traps were illegal to use but Grandma used
the catfish she caught to feed Aunt Puss Chapman for supper and the drifters. She
expressed her kindness through stealing. The second reason that supports this theme
is that Grandma helped Vandalia and Junior Stubbs run away by making the people
of the town believe something that scares them. According to the text, Joey used
Grandpa Dowdel s big, old black overcoat. This meant he acted as the Phantom
Brakeman, who many people in the town feared. Vandalia and Junior... Show more

US Social Regulation
Economic regulation is defined as a type of government regulation that determines
conditions or standards on entry of firms into the industry. Economic regulation shall
also include the regulation of financial firms. However, economic regulation is not
the only governmental regulation established. The other type of regulation, called
social regulation, includes environmental controls, restrictions on labeling and
advertising as well as health and safety regulations. Social regulation involves the
correction of externalities. However, there are many arguments about the exact
economic rationale for such social regulation. One reason which sets economic
regulation apart from social regulation is that the two have followed very different
paths in recent history. There has been a tremendously increasing expansion of social

Smith believed that if markets were free and competitive, then private individuals
would work together for the greater good of the market. In the early days of the US,
government leaders refrained from regulating businesses. As we entered the 20th
century, the consolidation of the US industry into progressively powerful
corporations was cause for government intervention to protect smaller businesses and
consumers. In 1890, Congress created and enacted the Sherman Antitrust Act, a law
created to return competition and free enterprise by breaking up monopolies. In
1906, it passed laws to ensure that food and drugs were properly identifiable and that
meat was inspected before being sold. In 1913, the government developed a
relatively new federal banking system, the Federal Reserve, to monitor the nation s
financial supply and to control banking activities (The Role of the Government,

Essay On Binge Drinking During Pregnancy
Drinking alcohol during pregnancy is strongly not recommended because not only
will alcohol affect the mother s body, but there are consequences for the baby as
well. Practicing binge drinking is bad for an individual, yet some women still practice
binge drinking whether they know or do not know the consequences. People who
have Fetal Alcohol Syndrome cannot change their appearance because it is a
permanent condition. The mother is the only person who can control whether or not
to let her child have this condition, so there must some prevention to this. Drinking
underage is illegal, so the government should make drinking during pregnancyillegal

alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). FAS is at the end of the spectrum that needs

strabismus. What described previously are the physical features of the children who

talkative, short tempered, impulsive and intrusive with reduced social abilities in
cognition and emotion processing (Dorrie, Focker, Freunscht, Hebebrand, 2014).
Some sources pointed out that children with this condition are having a hard time to

Greek Burial
Burials are one of the most used archaeological sites for scholars to gain insight and
information on all civilizations, and in this case Greek civilizations. In his book
Ethnic Identity, Stuart Hall makes a strong argument illustrating that social structures
may be articulated and projected through funerary ritual and this may be undeniable
(). Greek burialcustoms depict a parallel with society and their standards of living
throughout time; focusing on the Bronze Age and into the Classical Period, the
changing society of Ancient Greek shows the development of these burials.

of the two most popular shaft graves from the period. In Mycenae Heinrich

Essay on Critique Of death Of The Author
Critique of quot;Death of the Author quot;
The title to the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; by Roland Barthes,
suggests this story may be a fictional novel about the story of an author s death.
Perhaps one might pick it up, and skim the foreword in hopes that beneath the cover
of this book there would be a mystery, a story of detectives, eye witnesses, clues, and
a puzzle for the reader to solve. Before I read this story, the title quot; The Death of an
Author quot; brought to my imagination the biography of a writer slowly drinking
himself to death trying to finish the story of his life, but the author would be stuck
and depressed because his life is not a story as it is boring and repetitive. ... Show

I came to this conclusion after reading
quot; The Death of an Author quot; for the fourth or fifth time. I began to wonder
why does this man write this way? What caused him to have so much distrust toward
the critics? Those are the thoughts he was trying to persuade us not to think.
Barthes wanted the author of the story to be no more than a name printed on the
top or front of a book. Throughout the story quot;The Death of an Author, quot;
Barthes refers to the author as a scriptor in stating quot;Succeeding the Author, the
scriptor no longer bears within him passions, humors, feelings, impressions but
rather this immense dictionary from which he draws a writing that can know no
halt. quot; Barthes announces that a scriptor is superior to an author but they are
the same. Now if a scriptor is superior to an author this passage drags on and on,
never circulating around a single point. A scriptor does not try to make art of the
two hundred and fifty five symbols placed in front of him. A scriptor arranges the
symbols in an order that once decoded can be read back and can convey whatever
message the scriptor recorded. Barthes reveals his knowledge of this in writing,
quot;Once the author is removed, the claim to decipher a text becomes quite futile.
To give a text an Author is to impose a limit on that text, to furnish it with a final
signified, to close the writing. quot;

What Is The Moral Of The Island Of Dr. Moreau
In The Island of Dr.Moreau by H.G. Wells, the reader sees the conflict of morals
between the two main characters on the island. Dr.Moreau, the scientist on the island,
conducts vivisections on animals without remorse. He believes in the progression of
scientific research and wants to be able to perfect it. Moreau uses various animals to
change their eyes, ears, and other body features to make them better. M Ling, one of
his earliest creations is almost humanlike with the way he acts. He is Montgomery s
loyal companion and blurs the line between beats and humans. All the other animals
live under the law, which was designed to keep order and power making Moreau a
god among the beast. These events are seen through the eyes of Prendick, a castaway

All the animals never became like humans except M Ling who is Montgomery s

Ling is treated very different than the other beasts on the island being the only one
given a name. He lives with Montgomery almost having human emotions and traits.
He is also much more calmer than the other animals. M Ling suggests the idea that
can scientific research change animal behavior toying with the line of man and

animals quickly change back to their old forms of being beasts. In the story M Ling

The Beauty of Adam and Eve
In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets
the importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous
impact upon society. Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve,
while reinterpreting the well known Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to
Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however, interprets the Biblical story of
Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the expulsion of Eden,
he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden. Although
Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both
adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly
attracted to the forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it
on to her husband, and is then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden.
Because Pickthall uses artistic license and a rhymescheme, she constructs a poem,
indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion of Eden, and directly relating
to the bible.
Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in
relation to the Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the
location in which the whole story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to
Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully, Eve s first interaction with the tree of
knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them
The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy
November 22, 1963, the 35th president of the United States, John Fitzgerald
Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, during a parade. Since this catastrophic
event there have been numerous theories, conspiracies, and speculations as to what
actually happened that day. Some believe in a theory as to which a single bullet fired
from Lee Harvey Oswaldperformed a magical trajectory route to hit both the president
and Texas Gov. John Connally. While there are plenty of theories of what happened
that day, the most prominent and likely is the lone gunman theory which exhibits Lee
Harvey Oswald firing three shots hitting the president in a straight line and missing
once. Born May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, John Fitzgerald Kennedy...

There was then a third and final shot to the president s head that killed him. After
the assassination Oswald attempted to flee the scene and ended up killing
Patrolman J. D. Tippit on a Dallas street after he tried to apprehend Oswald.
Oswald was later arrested and taken to jail but along the way was murdered by a
man named Jack Ruby who shot him at point blank range. Many people have
various beliefs of how the president was killed and some believe that there were
multiple gunmen that day in Dallas. The only way that those people will believe
otherwise is if they think that one of the bullets fired was a magic bullet. The
conspiracy theorists only a magic bullet would be able to do what the Warren
Commission said that this bullet did. And they are correct. If Connally was seated in
the presidential limousine where they say he was, directly in front of Kennedy
(Smithyna). The reason the location of where Connally was seated is so important
because it maps out the trajectory of the bullet fired that passed through the president
and the governor. Believers in the magic bullet theory believe that Connally was
sitting directly in front of Kennedy. If that is true, then the bullet fired from the bank
depository coming from a down ward slope must have completely changed it s route
when leaving the president s body. In order to hit Connally the bullet must have exited
Foreign Military During Control On The Street

4 December 2015 Imagine stepping outside and there was a foreign military in
control on the street that you live on. Having one s home invaded by an unfamiliar
person is a scary and traumatizing experience. It encourages a person to take more
precautionary measures to ensure that their home is safe, but being watchful is not
always a guarantee of safety. This concept reflects what the people of Okinawa
experienced in the nineteen forties and still struggle with today. The beautiful
island of Okinawa is located south of Japan and is composed of several small
islands. Okinawa was its own Ryukyu Kingdom before it was annexed by the
Japanese in 1879 (mainichi.jp). Today, the Japanese government itself does not truly
treat Okinawa as an equal to mainland Japan. In fact, many of the Okinawans do not
consider themselves to be Japanese and actively voice that their culture is starkly
different than that of the Japanese people. The Japanese government is placing these
bases on the Okinawan s home without consulting them. It is an unfair act upon the
locals because their home is being taken from and they can do nothing to stop it. The
bases are not only disliked by the locals but it is also harming their marine life and
polluting their environment. Mainland Japan is fully capable of housing the new
military bases but they would rather throw it on the nonviolent island of Okinawa.
The locals of Okinawa have not had a pleasant experience

humans decided to settle near it at around 6000 B.C. The Nile River provided a

This 1700 year rule of the Pharaohs marked the flourish of growth in arts,
commerce, science, and medicine. One of the most notable architectures to come
out of this growth was the pyramids. These pyramids were made to be great burial
tombs to help the Pharaohs achieve eternal life after death. The first pyramid was
built by the first Pharaoh by the name of Imhotep. This was built in Saqqara at
around 2800 B.C. Soon after, the three pyramids at Giza were built. The largest of
the three, known as the Great Pyramid, was built around 2540 B.C. and took about
20 years to build. Today it is the only one of the seven ancient wonders of the world
to still be standing. Due to these pyramids, the wealth of pharaohs soon started to
decline and their absolute power became unsteady. The Old Kingdom soon
collapsed and changed into a rapid succession of Memphis based rulers until around
2160 B.C. This would soon lead into a civil war between provincial governors. This
situation was turned more chaotic by Bedouin invasions. While this was all
happening, everyone was accompanied by famine and disease. Around 2040 B.C. the

Especially for the market as far as the present study is concerned. It will analyze what
impact domestic products and imported has on brand preference. Thai is if
Namibian consumers are willing to purchase imported products or domestic
products. This study will also serve as source and guidance for future research, not
only Namibian retailers as well as the two accompanying companies may also
benefit strategically for their products. Conducting this research will also benefit me
as a researcher as I will also gain some knowledge regarding ethnocentrism of
Namibian dairy consumers.
1.8 Limitations
Time management would be the number one problem that will hinder the researcher
from completing the study successfully. The feedback from the respondents may also
be biased as they may give false information.
1.9 Delimitations
This study is only bound in Windhoek. This means consumers from other part of the
country are excluded in the study. This is done to limit the time spent while
conducting the study as well as the cost to e incurred.

Twelve Habits Of Christian Thought
The Apostle Paul says that we should rejoice always (Phil. 4:4). The basis of our
attitude is not on our circumstances but on the character of God. Philippians 4: 8 9,
tells us what we should have our minds set on. It will take verbal and mental
discipline as Christians to develop the characteristics of a healing church.
Six Habits of Christian Thought
The author lists the six commandments Paul states that form the habit of Christian
thought. (1) Think about those things. Let go of the negatives and have Christ like
thoughts. (2) Think with discernment. Think on Jesus the Truth not on facts alone.
Not all facts are true. (3) Think honorable thoughts. These thoughts dwell on praise,
worship, and thanksgiving. We are God s workmanship to which we owe only praise
and thanksgiving. (4) Think just thoughts. All our thoughts should be without
prejudice and bigotry. We are to think rightly and justly about all situations, giving
everyone the same chance in our consideration of them. (p. 165) (5) Think untainted
thoughts. Think thoughts from the Spirit, not mindless, vain meditation. (6) Have an
eye for the beauty around you. Life is more than facts and statistics. There is beauty
and artistic value in creation. We are to marvel at God s handiwork. We are to think
like Jesus thought, which is different from the world. It takes discipline to become a
healing church.

Running Economy
Running economy is defined as the energy demand for a given velocity of
submaximal running, and is determined by measuring the steady state consumption
of oxygen and the respiratory exchange ration. Running economy is like fuel in a
vehicle. How much fuel does it take to operate a car or a person s body. Other factor
contributed to how much energyis required to fuel a runner, including metabolic
adaption, the energy storing ability of muscles and how well a runner s body utilizes
energy. Although, I found some of the terms in the article to understand, I found the
study to indicate there was a connection between runningeconomy and various
factors, such as kinematic variables.

Essay on Choosing the Best Dog Breed for Your Family

The Newfoundland is categorized as a large breed of dog in the AKC Working
Group. Newfs can range between 22 to 28 inches tall from the shoulder and
normally weigh 100 to 150 pounds. Their coat coloring can be either solid or
landseer and come in Grays, Browns, or Black, or a White base coat with Black
markings. The history of the breed is thought to originate from a Canadian island
for which the Newfoundland is named. Used as a workhorse and fishing aid, the
Newfoundland s job was to pull angler nets to shore, haul wood from the forests,
and power blacksmith s bellows (American Kennel Club). The temperament of the
dog is best described by its nickname, The Gentle Giant patience, intelligence, and
docile manners, make him an ideal family dog. Newfoundland s require daily

a small breed in the AKC Toy group, the Pug normally gets 11 to 14 inches tall from
the shoulders and weighs 14 to 18 pounds. The Pug is known for its mask around
the mussel and the color of the coat can be either Black or Fawn. The history of this
particular breed of dog originates from Asia where they were used mainly as
companion dogs to Buddhist monks. AKC states that the breeding purpose of Pugs

A Catastrophe of Pandemic Proportions
A Catastrophe of Pandemic Proportions
It is the year 2018. The future that once looked bright is now filled with
devastation. Two years ago a small pox epidemic swept through the United States
in the worst act of terrorism we have ever seen. Due to the belief small pox was
gone for good, children were no longer vaccinated. If only we knew the enemy was
manufacturing this virus as a lethal weapon to be unleashed in the United States. I
do not think even the enemy had any idea of the magnitude of death and destruction
such a simple virus could cause. The first wave killed 40% of the eastern coast. As
it swept across our nation, the main toll was children s lives. Many who survived were

This is dangerous since a misdiagnosis is highly likely and the patient will be sent
home with no help and no alerts sent to the health department. Unfortunately, the
person carrying small pox is already contagious and spreading the virus through an
entire community and beyond.
If something like the previously described event were to happen, the results could
be very similar. The problem lies in the fact that the people do not know what to do
in case of a bioterrorist attack. In the past, things have been kept secret and the public
has been unable to get a grasp on what our role is in such an event. The American
society rarely hears about biological threats on our nation and is not included on
training in case such events. This is the very reason why we are in a vulnerable
spot and I fear we the people would be helpless. The other reality is, because our
lack of knowledge, the people could also make the situation worse. All it takes is
for a person to panic and flee. The can spread a virus like wildfire. Due to a long
incubation period, a citizen could in theory affect a large majority of people before
systems are shown. Something we do not normally think about is the possibility of
the majority of our police officers and hospital staff being infected in the initial wave
of sickness. These are the people who are most vulnerable due to the interactions with
the community. With

Principles And Methods Of Ergonomics
INTRODUCTION
Ergonomic means the understanding of the interactions among humans and other
elements of a system. This is achieved by applying theoretical principles, data and
methods to design so that we can optimise human well being and thus improving
overall system performance. Ergonomists helps in planning, designing and evaluation
of tasks, jobs and products in industries. These also include environments and
systems in order to make viable to the needs, abilities and limitations of peoples.
The term Ergonomics means Greek ergo that is work and nomos means laws to

According to International Ergonomics Association (IEA); Ergonomics is the
scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among
humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory,
principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well being and
overall system performance(2). In countries like India where there are many
industries, they play a vital role in employing majority of industrial workers. The
majority of the industrial workers are suffering from musculoskeletal disorder(5)
that are work related specially upper extremity work related musculoskeletal
disorders (UE WMSDs) are the most common form of occupational diseases.
Hence to consider this factor, operator needs proper seating arrangement such that
their problems regarding the MSDs can be reduced productivity will be increased
(3). This is dealt by ergonomics that deals with making the work place safe,
comfortable, efficient, and harmless as possible. This is achieved by proper balance
between worker characteristics and task demands. In any work setting it is important
to produce high quality products and it s been a main objective also. Labour is
directly related to the productivity. Their ability, skills, productivity and performance
have a great importance towards the increased production (4). Hence proper
ergonomics enhance worker productivity, provide worker safety, physical and mental
well being and job

The Theory Of Mind Mechanism ( Tomm )
Though many of us may not realize it, humans have a remarkable set of abilities
that allows us to understand, empathize with, and predict others thoughts and
feelings. In other words, the average person is able to put himself in another s
shoes. In our daily lives we tend to take this skill for granted. It is only when
something goes wrong that we realize how important it actually is. For autistic
individuals, this mindreading deficit is all too real. In fact, an inability to engage in
this type of understanding of other s mental states is often taken as the hallmark sign
of autism. Mindreading is defined as the ability to make sense of other people and to
coordinate our behavior with theirs (Bermudez, 354). Many cognitive scientists
believe the theory of mindmechanism (TOMM) is important to mindreading. These
scientists contend that autistic individuals suffer from an impairment to this theory
of mind module. However, others have argued that theory of mind, which is the
ability to form beliefs about the mental states of others , is not a modular ability, but
instead the result of the interaction of many different cognitive skills. In their paper
Generous or Parsimonious Cognitive Architecture? Cognitive Neuroscience and
Theory of Mind, Philip Gerrans and Valerie E. Stone take this view of theory of
mind. I will review this paper and its arguments, then address the response to Gerrans
and Stone made by Carl Hildebrand. Gerrans s and Stone s argument consists of
What Is Kaiser s Legacy
The historic Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center (originally the Oakland Civic
Auditorium), has been the focus of development plans ever since the 215,000 square
foot facility closed down in 2004. It s slated to become office space, but during its
heyday, it hosted wrestling competitions, circuses and Elvis Presley concerts; in
1962, it even welcomed Martin Luther King Jr. to commemorate the centennial of the
Emancipation Proclamation.

In fact, his prolificacy would later earn him the nickname America s boldest, most
spectacular entrepreneur.
After forming his first construction company in 1913, Kaiser worked on a number of
infrastructural projects, building dams in California, establishing Mississippi River
levees and constructing hundred of miles of roads. Between 1931 and 1945, he also
oversaw the development of the Hoover, Grand Coulee and Bonneville dams.
However, he is most noted for his contributions to American shipbuilding during
World War II, when he ran seven shipyards (the Kaiser Shipyards) that mass

But soon, I have second thoughts. I love vampire stories, in particular, Anne Rice

it and maybe have Harry. Once work is done, I drive to the gym and take a ninety

When Harry Met Sally
The reviewers understand that the dialogue enhances the advancement of plot and
character depth. For example, before this movie, dozens of years had passed since
the adult romantic comedy was in vogue, but When Harry Met Sally changed the
trend. The film achieves this best by maintaining the focus on the relationship
between the two title characters, never wandering off on unwelcome tangents. This
is mainly because of the dynamics of the two character and how they their
relationship with one another grows. Harry and Sally do, for a good portion of the
film, have a strong platonic bond. They are the only friends in the film who talk about
subjects other than romance. They joke about dead people s apartments, talk in silly
accents, and do
Vouchers Should Not Be Allowed In Schools
What is the problem with free money?
Ralph Waldo Emerson in the Divinity school address once said, Speak the truth,
and all things alive or brute are vouchers and the very roots of the grass
underground there, do seem to stir and move to bear you witness. School vouchers
are a public funding set aside for private schooling toward children s education. They
give parents the opportunity to select public or private schools of their choice using
government dollars. Increasing the performance of all schools, school vouchers would
provide equal opportunities in education. These checks are beneficial to low income
households who cannot afford education for their children. School vouchers are a
needed necessity because they support low income families ... Show more content on

A voucher allows parents to use public funds to pay for some or all of their private
school tuition (Veva). Parents basically having that opportunity to send their
children to a private school full time for free because of the school vouchers. When
it comes to low income families these programs help kids to stay off the street gain
and learn knowledge so they can one day be successful in their lives. A coupon
redeemable for a maximum dollar amount per child if spent to attend a private
school... Voucher programs remove the monopoly power of local public schools.
Researchers contemplating that if things go this way well school vouchers
providing them would not be a problem; knowing that voucher programs remove
the monopoly power of local public schools. Furthermore, vouchers are used by
harmless caring parents who are trying to better their children s education by getting
them away from dangerous unfit public schools within their community. Why
would someone want to reject an innocent person s education because they feel as
though it is too much money being wasted on poor children who are 85% more
likely to drop out after the first year? People are just wanting equal opportunity and
is that too much to ask for. This reason as to why school vouchers are beneficial
relates to the logos appeals because they are presenting the research on how school
vouchers are actually improving and bettering society in student achievement whether
it is public or private
The Role Of Women In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
In the Elizabethan era, women were considered to be the weaker sex, they were
dependent on man and were expected to do as told, without question. William
Shakespeare captures the essence of being a woman in the play Hamlet, by
introducing the characters, Gertrude and Ophelia. They are naive and gullible
characters that look for advice from a male figure and are expected to act in a
certain way that would please and not interfere with the opposite sex. Therefore the
role of women in the play Hamletis to act as a possession of their male figure and
maintain a reputation of innocence. For example, Ophelia, a young Danish courtier,
daughter of Polonius and the sister of Laertes, is categorized as a tragic innocent
womanwho loses... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ophelia s obedience does not allow her to stand up to Hamlet, when he tells her to
Get thee to a nunnery (3.1 119) and that she is a breeder of sinners (3.1 119), again
referring to that women are only capable of following man in their lives and giving
birth, becoming wives without an opinion. The social expectation is to become
dependent on a male figure, when Ophelia s brother leaves to France, Hamlet
rejects her love by saying I loved you not (3.1 117) and also kills Polonius, her
father that she was the most dependent on, Ophelia no longer has someone that tells
her what to do and feels betrayed by her loved ones driving her insane. Ophelia has
to remain innocent while obeying her father and doing things that cause her
emotional pain, she does not have the right to say no and go against the male figures.
Likewise, Gertrude is in the same position as Ophelia. Gertrude the Queen of
Denmark who is married to Claudius now the king listens to a male figure below
her status. When she is asked to talk to Ophelia by a gentlewoman, she denies the
request until Horatio comes in and also asks for the favor, Gertrude replies let her
come in. (4.5 17). Therefore Gertrude is taking orders from a male character that
we do not know the origin of and is only presented as Hamlet s friend, which he met
at the University of Wittenberg. This scene shows Gertrude s weakness in front of
any male figure in the

Too Many Unemployed People
In today s society there are many social issues present, one of them being
unemployment. Currently 6.6 million Americans are unemployed, and they are
unable to pay their mortgage, tuition, and basic needs. The streets of America are run
down and blanket of sadness clouds American towns. As a result people are forced to
change their lifestyle and hope for unemployment benefits, and pray that they will be
hired again. The following writing is about an unemployed man named Michael who
struggles to support himself and his family. He is a former construction worker who
has been without a job for almost a year. He and his family depend on unemployment
benefits from the federal government; in addition the federal government decides who
get benefits and who doesn t. When he goes to collect his unemployment benefits he
is denied and becomes puzzled and angry as to why he could not collect his benefits.
Michael feels that the federal government is doing nothing to help struggling
Americans, and politicians have ran away from their responsibilities to their
constituents. Finally the story models Steinbeck s style of writing, with descriptive
narration to show lives of struggling Americans, and dialogue to show the struggles of
the main character.
The alarm clock rings and Michael slowly wakes up. He drags his feet over to his
closet and see his hard hat, suddenly a feeling of nostalgia comes about taking him
back to the scene of last job. He misses the sounds of the cranes and the

The respiratory system helps with breathing, inhaling and exhaling. The respiratory
systems main function is to give oxygen to the body s cells and get rid of the carbon
dioxide the cells produce. Breathing would be impossible without the respiratory
system, which includes the nose, throat, voice box, windpipe, and lungs. In this essay
I plan on explaining how the respiratory system functions as well as its parts.
The exchange of two gases called oxygen and carbon dioxide, this process is called
respiration. As humans we need oxygen to survive and generate carbon dioxide.
Since too much carbon dioxide is bad for our body we trade the carbon dioxide ...

run or do activities the more oxygen we need to intake to give to the millions of
cells in the body. This is the reason when we run we breathe harder and deeper
because our body is trying to keep up with us. When we breathe harder and faster
our heart is also beating faster which is causing blood to pump more through the
body each minute. Therefore the red blood cells make more trips and deliver more
oxygen to the tissue cells also getting rid of more carbon dioxide than if we were
doing nothing. Located in the medulla and pons of our brain is what is called the
respiratory control center. In our book on page 382 it says, These centers are in turn
regulated by a number of inputs from receptors located in varying areas of the body.

Essay on Princes and Paupers
Princes and Paupers
Year by year the world becomes more sharply divided by two. On the one hand, there
are the advanced, industrial, developed, with mature economics. And then there are
the rest developing, less developed, underdeveloped, undeveloped, and pre industrial.
The exact description is unimportant; for the basic division is, of course, one between
the rich and the poor.
What does it mean to be poor? It has always been advantageous to be born on the
right side of the tracks. But the accident of birth has never had quite the significance
that it holds today, for every child born to parents in the developed countries, seven
are born in the underdeveloped world.
This fact, above all else, will determine the course of ... Show more content on

These, of course, are basic items that are consumed daily in the West. Next time
you have a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea think about where it came from and
what it took to get it to you.
Because of our love for beef, Westerners consume close to one ton of grain per year,
and more than three quarters of that is first transformed into animal products. It
actually takes ten pounds of grain protein to produce one pound of beef protein.
People in poor countries consume less than one fifth of that amount. Westerners who
are concerned about the pressure of population on the world food resources should
remember that their typical family of four are consuming more grain than it would
take to feed a poor Indian couple with eighteen children.
One of the most absurd aspects of poverty is the massive protein consumption of
household pets in the West. In the United States, eighty five million cats and dogs
consume more protein than all of Latin America. Ironically, most of the protein that
the animals in the United States consume comes from Latin America.
The mal distribution of the world s food resources is possible only because income
is so inequitably distributed. The world food market matches supply with effective
demand. Whatever those with money want, even if it is

Imagine a landfill. Trash scattering the ground, filth spewed across everything, a
terrible stench burning your nose. Now look up to the sky. Instead of of a clear blue

Today one hundred and ninety two observe earth day as a national holiday.
Although the environmental movement is considered a subculture, it has integrated
itself into modern day society and made a monumental impact. The call to reduce,
reuse, and recycle is seen everywhere you go. Schools all over the nation are
involved in teaching kids how to make the planet a cleaner place. According to an
informal survey, conducted by Waste360, a networking organization that serves solid
Larsen 3 waste, recycling, and conservation communities, It is estimated that
between 75 to 100 percent of the school districts implement some level of recycling
program. (Nester). Everyone doing their part can make a massive impact on our
communities cleanliness. People find satisfaction in doing there part for the earth
and the environmental movement provides plenty of ways for communities to join
the cause, and can be as simple as changing all your lightbulbs to LED to conserve
energy, or checking facuets for leaks to avoid wasting water. The environmental
movement not only helps the earth, but also the wallet. Saving gas by carpooling to
work keeps the earth cleaner, and also cuts down on gas payments. Small acts, can
transform the world. If everyone does there part, it makes the world that much better
of a place to be in.

The V-Chip Essay
The V Chip
What is a V chip? This term has become a buzz word for any discussion evolving
telecommunications regulation and television ratings, but not too many reports
define the new technology in its fullest form. A basic definition of the V chip; is a
microprocessor that can decipher information sent in the vertical blanking of the
NTSC signal, purposefully for the control of violent or controversial subject matter.
Yet, the span of the new chip is much greater than any working definition can
encompass. A discussion of the V chipmust include a consideration of the technical
and ethical issues, in addition to examining the constitutionally of any law that might
concern standards set by the US government. Yet in the space provided for... Show

The NTSC signal includes extra information space known as the subcarrier and
Vertical blanking interval. As explained in the quotation from Mr. Marquis, the V
chips will use a certain section of this space to send simple rating numbers and
points that will be compared to the personality settings in the chip. Many new
technologies are being developed for smart TV or data broadcast on this part of the
NTSC signal. Basically the V chip will severely limit the bandwidth for high
performance transmission of data on the
NTSC signal. There is also to be cost to this new technology, which will be passed
to consumers. Estimates are that each chip will cost six dollars wholesale and
must be designed into the television s logic. The V chip could easily push the price
of televisions up by twenty five or more dollars during the first years of production.
The much simpler solution of set top boxes allows control for those who need it and
allow those consumers who don t to save money and use new data technology.
Another cost will most definitely be levied to television advertisers for the upgrade of
the transmitting equipment. Weather the V chip encoding signal is added upstream
of the transmitter or directly into uplink units and other equipment intended for
broadcast; this cost will have to compensated for in advertising sales and prices. The
V chip regulation may also require another staff employee at most stations to
effectively rate locally
Fitbit Seems Target Those Who Understand And Desire The
Fitbit seems target those who understand and desire the data gathered by the Charge
2, to use to achieve certain fitness and health related goals. The design seems to cater
for a younger market. By targeting young people, Fitbit can take advantage of the
correlation between age and brand loyalty, as it has been shown that millennial
consumers are the most brandloyal demographic (Smith, 2015). Brand loyalty is
likely fortified if the marketingstrategies...present a clear personality of the brand
(Wu, Lin, 2016, p194) and Fitbit maintains the company s fitness and health

chosen as consumers always... consider the price benefit ratio (Canhoto, Arp, 2016,

It seems that the Night of the title symbolises the life of females because of their
sufferings and sacrifices, and Thousand Faces symbolises that sufferings of women
are not of one kind or type, but are numerous. Hariharan has put off the disguise
from these Thousand Faces through the description of different female characters
(mythical also) with their different types of sufferings (whether it be physical or
emotional or psychological). So, this title perfectly and suitably fits to the story line
of the novel. At every step, it is shown that the females take birth on this earth only
to do sacrifices for others especially for their male

Compare And Contrast City And City Life
There comes a time in everyone s life when we ask ourselves the age old question
which has tormented so many, Should I live in the city or in the country? Imagine
deciding whether to live in just one specific area for the rest of your life. Many
would argue that the hectic lifestyle that a big city provides clearly places it ahead of
a suburban landscape. Others, however, would claim that the serene and restful
environment of the countryside is much more satisfying than the citycould ever be. It
is important to be clear that not all vast cities are the same, and it goes the same way
for the suburban regions of America. The city and country lifestyleare two distinct
types of living, each with their own pros and cons that may overlap at times.
Between these two, there are numerous differences when looking at their
environment, distinct social opportunities, and contrastive cost of living. One way or
another, all the facts will be laid down, and a deeper insight into why people settle in
either the city or the suburbs shall become apparent.
At first glance, it is obvious that there are many pros and cons when it comes to
deciding a lifestyle in either one of these surroundings, so careful assessment of all
details are required to make the ideal decision for what a future resident might
expect. To start off, it would seem that the majority of city apartments can be quite
affordable in a rent controlled zone and are much more practical for poor families, or

Association Between Consumer Debt and the Likelihood of Divorce , a survey was
done to find the correlation between consumer debt and divorce and the results were
proven that consumer debt positively predicted the hazard of divorce (Dew 562).
This statement just emphasizes how financial stability is an asset to keeping a
healthy marriageand to avoid stress in the marriage. Financial instability just adds
more stress into the marriage. Bobbie Mason represents the struggle of financial
instability in Shiloh when Norma Jean is the one bringing in money in the household

Persuasive Essay On Driverless Cars
Robots are here to take over, but not by force. In fact, we are letting them in the
door without even checking the peephole. A robot can do your job better, faster,
cheaper, and with less mistakes and companies know this. We live in a country of
late stage capitalism where private companies are trying to squeeze every and any
penny out of their expenses and into their pockets. For profits organizations won t
hesitate to automate their workforce, and why should they? To them, the benefits
are enormous. Robots don t take breaks, don t get hurt, can t get sick, and do not
require a yearly salary. This is no longer a matter of can we or should we, this is a
matter of how our government should respond to this massive change. Low skill
jobs can easily be automated and already are beginning to be. Self checkouts and
truck driving are only two examples of low skill jobs being taken over robots. One
might think there aren t many jobs past truck drivers and store clerks that can be
automated, but that is flat out incorrect. Self driving cars are already here. In John
Stossel s episode, Robots and Cars Stossel drives a Tesla, which has self driving
capabilities and these cars are already available to the public. Although, the
technology behind driverless cars aren t just put in the category of cars, they re autos.
Autos move something from point A to point B. This can be useful in pit mines
moving resources, warehouses moving goods, retail stores moving products. Moving

African Slave and African Slave Trade
African Slavery and the Slave Trade
African Slavery and the Slave Trade was one of the most devastating events that took
place between us African Americans. African slavery all began back in 1482 when
the Portuguese built their first permanent trading post on the Western Coast of
present day Ghana. The Elimina castle later became one of the most important stops
on the route of the Atlantic Slave Trade. The Dutch seized the fort from the
Portuguese in 1637 and traded slaves there until 1872 when they surrendered to the
British. About ten million African slaves were kidnapped; usually from peaceful
tribes because of their lack of defense. The captured slaves were forced to march to
the Atlantic coast which at times was over one hundred ... Show more content on

The measure only applied to those states which, after that date, came under the
military control of the Union Army. It did not apply to those slave states such as
Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri and parts of Virginia and Louisiana, that
were already occupied by Northern troops.
It was not until December 1865, when the Thirteenth Amendment of the Constitution
had been passed by the House of Representatives and had been ratified by the
required number of states, that slavery was finally abolished everywhere in the
United States. In conclusion, I am going to leave you with this. We should all love
one another. To understand slavery here is a little something to help you remember.
You should not forget where you came from because we have come from a mighty
long way. Like MLK said, free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we are free at
Knowledge Folders and Study Skills
The Relationship between the Strategy of Knowledge Folders and Study Skills
2 Introduction Over the past several years, I have had students in my junior classes
who were not
performing well on their summative evaluations and did not seem to understand the
importance of quality class work and homework. I currently teach juniors and
seniors in a high school science academy where they are expected to be prepared for
college and beyond. The students study skills were not evolved to the point where
they could be successful in college or the workplace. I wanted the students to
understand that they needed to take on the responsibility for learning and acquiring
new skills which is expected in college work and in today s changing and ... Show

I wanted to change the behavior of the students by providing strategies for improving
the way they completed their work and the way they studied. I decided to modify one
of Rogers Peak Learning Systems assessment strategies, the Knowledge Wall, into
Knowledge Folders. These were folders in which the students placed all their class
work and homework and could access during a timed assessment. I hoped that the
Knowledge Folders would help with the students study skills of free writing and
emphasize quality homework and class work. If the students had written thoroughly
about the concept, and had much detail in their class work and homework, then they
were able to answer the questions on the assessment with greater clarity. This could
show them the relationship between their work and the assessment questions during
the course of the assessment period. Explicitly teaching the use of this strategy could
increase the learner s motivation and lead to increased achievement for doing quality
class work and homework. This led to my action research question of: What is the
relationship between the assessment strategy of Knowledge Folders and improved
study skills as measured by student motivation and academic performance?
Methodology I decided to implement the strategy of Knowledge Folders during
assessments in hopes of the students improving their metacognition and motivation.

There are public institutions that want the Ten Commandments displayed. If that is

Good Expository Essays. Expository Essay ExamplesGreat Topic Ideas Pro Essay Help

  • 1. Good Expository Essays Writing an essay on the subject of "Good Expository Essays" can present both challenges and opportunities for the author. The difficulty lies in the need for a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics that define a well-crafted expository essay. It requires a thorough grasp of the topic, the ability to organize thoughts logically, and a skillful use of language to convey information in a clear and concise manner. To start with, one must delve into the nuances of expository writing, which entails presenting facts, explaining ideas, and providing a thorough analysis without expressing personal opinions. Crafting a good expository essay demands a disciplined approach to research, ensuring that the information presented is accurate, relevant, and supports the main thesis. The writer must carefully consider the target audience, tailoring the content to their level of understanding and interest. Striking the right balance between complexity and simplicity is crucial, as the essay should be accessible to a wide readership while maintaining a level of intellectual rigor. Structurally, the essay must have a well-defined introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction should captivate the reader's attention, provide context, and present a clear thesis statement. The body of the essay should be organized logically, with each paragraph dedicated to a specific aspect or supporting detail. Transition sentences should guide the reader seamlessly through the essay. Clarity is paramount in expository essays. Complex ideas should be explained with precision, and the use of jargon or ambiguous language should be avoided. Additionally, the essay should exhibit a cohesive flow, ensuring that each section builds upon the previous one to reinforce the central argument. Concluding an expository essay requires summarizing the key points and restating the thesis in a memorable way. The conclusion should leave a lasting impression on the reader and reinforce the significance of the information presented. In conclusion, while the task of writing a good expository essay may pose challenges, it is an exercise in honing one's research, analytical, and communication skills. With dedication and attention to detail, an author can navigate the intricacies of this genre and produce an essay that informs, educates, and engages the reader. • 2. The Death Of Juliet In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare s most acclaimed and tragic pieces of literature. In this story of two young star crossed lovers , Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight. However, they are doomed to only be able to be in love for a brief time since they will take their own lives. When Romeo thinks that Juliet is dead , he drinks the deadly poison he bought from an apothecary, but Juliet wakes up barely a moment after just to find him dead. She stabs herself in the heart, killing herself to be with Romeo. Of course, this isn t all there is to this tragedy, even though Romeo and Juliet themselves are the most responsible for the outcome of the story. There are several other characters in the play and many, if not all,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Act III, Scene 1, several events lead to the banishment of Romeo from Verona. Mercutio deliberately enrages the short tempered Tybalt Capulet even further by playing with Tybalt s words and making puns and jokes out of them. Mercutio then proceeds to fight Romeo s battle, not knowing Romeo is not fighting Tybalt only because he recently got married to Juliet. When Romeo tries to stop Mercutio and Tybalt from dueling, Mercutio gets killed by Tybalt. In rage, Romeo avenges Mercutio and fatally stabs Tybalt. These events make the Prince banish Romeo from Verona and we all know what happens after his banishment. Several unfortunate timings and events lead Romeo killing himself with poison and then Juliet with a sword. If only Mercutio didn t find it necessary for him to fight Tybalt. Maybe it wouldn t have even been a tragedy

From the biopsy sample, healthy stem cells are then isolated. Those stem cells are then mixed with an aqueous solution then sprayed onto burn areas of the patient s body. For burn victims, the skin cell gun cuts healing to days as oppose to weeks and months. Deaths of burn victims due to infection have reduced and pain management has increased. • 4. The Integration Of The European Union The European Union [hereinafter referred to as the EU] has sought to establish a uniform citizenship regime that both acknowledges and respects the demands of its Member States. The task of creating uniformity has been complicated by the seemingly divergent legal, political and social norms that exist within the borders of its constituting States. Combined, these conflicting positions have created an environment whereby integration through citizenship into the EU as a collective, and its Member States, lacks in both substantive and material value. Together, the existing legal and social norms of this collective has produced a complicated web that prohibits, albeit not necessarily intentionally, the integration of migrants who are seeking to establish themselves within European culture. For migrants who may lack the necessary resources, economic or other, there exists the potential to face prohibitive regimes that deny, or, provide limited access to resources that would assist in the integration process. Asylum seekers and refugees are often on the frontlines when it comes to navigating through the complicated realities created by the EU and its Member States. As such, asylum seekers and refugees are often put into a position where their displacement serves as the foundation for the continuance of displacement; whether that be legal, political or social. The goal of this paper is to provide insight into how and why asylum seekers and refugees encounter difficulties

A Long Way From Chicago Character Analysis Stealing food and using it to feed someone is an example of what is used throughout the fictional novel, A Long Way From Chicago, copyright date 1997. Joey and Mary Alice visit Grandma Dowdel s home from Chicago every summer. Each year for seven years they learn that kindness can be shown in different ways. Similarly, Grandma Dowdel displays acts of kindness by stealing, cheating, and lying however in the end, changes the peoples lives for the better. Richard Peck uses the events of his novel, A Long Way From Chicago to convey the universal theme, kindness can be shown in many ways. The first reason that supports this theme is that Grandma Dowdel feeds Aunt Puss Chapman and the drifters even though she could have gotten arrested for catching the food illegally. The author states that the trap used to catch the fish was a fish trap. Fish traps were illegal to use but Grandma used the catfish she caught to feed Aunt Puss Chapman for supper and the drifters. She expressed her kindness through stealing. The second reason that supports this theme is that Grandma helped Vandalia and Junior Stubbs run away by making the people of the town believe something that scares them. Greek burialcustoms depict a parallel with society and their standards of living throughout time; focusing on the Bronze Age and into the Classical Period, the changing society of Ancient Greek shows the development of these burials. Essay on Critique Of death Of The Author Critique of quot;Death of the Author quot; The title to the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; by Roland Barthes, suggests this story may be a fictional novel about the story of an author s death. Perhaps one might pick it up, and skim the foreword in hopes that beneath the cover of this book there would be a mystery, a story of detectives, eye witnesses, clues, and a puzzle for the reader to solve. Before I read this story, the title quot; The Death of an Author quot; brought to my imagination the biography of a writer slowly drinking himself to death trying to finish the story of his life, but the author would be stuck and depressed because his life is not a story as it is boring and repetitive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I came to this conclusion after reading quot; The Death of an Author quot; for the fourth or fifth time. I began to wonder why does this man write this way? What caused him to have so much distrust toward the critics? Those are the thoughts he was trying to persuade us not to think. Barthes wanted the author of the story to be no more than a name printed on the top or front of a book. Throughout the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; Barthes refers to the author as a scriptor in stating quot;Succeeding the Author, the scriptor no longer bears within him passions, humors, feelings, impressions but rather this immense dictionary from which he draws a writing that can know no halt. quot; Barthes announces that a scriptor is superior to an author but they are the same. Now if a scriptor is superior to an author this passage drags on and on, never circulating around a single point. A scriptor does not try to make art of the two hundred and fifty five symbols placed in front of him. A scriptor arranges the symbols in an order that once decoded can be read back and can convey whatever message the scriptor recorded. Barthes reveals his knowledge of this in writing, quot;Once the author is removed, the claim to decipher a text becomes quite futile. To give a text an Author is to impose a limit on that text, to furnish it with a final signified, to close the writing. quot; I

  • 16. The Beauty of Adam and Eve In a world bombarded with technology and constant distractions, society often forgets the importance and beauty of art. A branch of art, literature, lends a tremendous impact upon society. Marjorie Pickthall constructs an elegant poem, Adam and Eve, while reinterpreting the well known Biblical story, Adam and Eve. Similar to Pickthall, a renaissance artist, Masaccio, however, interprets the Biblical story of Adam and Eve with a different interpretation. In his painting, the expulsion of Eden, he focuses on Adam and Eve s reaction while leaving the Garden of Eden. Although Pickthal and Masaccio have different prescripts of the story of Adam and Eve, both adopt the same plot. While arriving in the perfect garden of Eden, Eve is suddenly attracted to the forbidden fruit. Beguiled by the serpent , Eve eats the fruit, passing it on to her husband, and is then banished, along with Adam, from the Garden of Eden. Because Pickthall uses artistic license and a rhymescheme, she constructs a poem, indirectly relating to Masaccio s painting, the expulsion of Eden, and directly relating to the bible. Due to Pickthall s usage of artistic license in her poem,a new meaning arises in relation to the Bible. The major instance of artistic license in Adam and Eve, the location in which the whole story takes place in, The Garden of Eden, changes to Beauty . The first stanza describes, gracefully, Eve s first interaction with the tree of knowledge, In the clear silence Beauty found them

Since this catastrophic event there have been numerous theories, conspiracies, and speculations as to what actually happened that day. Some believe in a theory as to which a single bullet fired from Lee Harvey Oswaldperformed a magical trajectory route to hit both the president and Texas Gov. John Connally. While there are plenty of theories of what happened that day, the most prominent and likely is the lone gunman theory which exhibits Lee Harvey Oswald firing three shots hitting the president in a straight line and missing once. After the assassination Oswald attempted to flee the scene and ended up killing Patrolman J. D. Tippit on a Dallas street after he tried to apprehend Oswald. Many people have various beliefs of how the president was killed and some believe that there were multiple gunmen that day in Dallas. The only way that those people will believe otherwise is if they think that one of the bullets fired was a magic bullet. The conspiracy theorists only a magic bullet would be able to do what the Warren Commission said that this bullet did. And they are correct. If Connally was seated in the presidential limousine where they say he was, directly in front of Kennedy (Smithyna). The reason the location of where Connally was seated is so important because it maps out the trajectory of the bullet fired that passed through the president and the governor. Believers in the magic bullet theory believe that Connally was sitting directly in front of Kennedy. If that is true, then the bullet fired from the bank depository coming from a down ward slope must have completely changed it s route when leaving the president s body. Having one s home invaded by an unfamiliar person is a scary and traumatizing experience. It encourages a person to take more precautionary measures to ensure that their home is safe, but being watchful is not always a guarantee of safety. This concept reflects what the people of Okinawa experienced in the nineteen forties and still struggle with today. The beautiful island of Okinawa is located south of Japan and is composed of several small islands. Okinawa was its own Ryukyu Kingdom before it was annexed by the Japanese in 1879 (mainichi.jp). Today, the Japanese government itself does not truly treat Okinawa as an equal to mainland Japan. In fact, many of the Okinawans do not consider themselves to be Japanese and actively voice that their culture is starkly different than that of the Japanese people. The Japanese government is placing these bases on the Okinawan s home without consulting them. It is an unfair act upon the locals because their home is being taken from and they can do nothing to stop it. The bases are not only disliked by the locals but it is also harming their marine life and polluting their environment. Mainland Japan is fully capable of housing the new military bases but they would rather throw it on the nonviolent island of Okinawa. The locals of Okinawa have not had a pleasant experience

The majority of the industrial workers are suffering from musculoskeletal disorder(5) that are work related specially upper extremity work related musculoskeletal disorders (UE WMSDs) are the most common form of occupational diseases. Hence to consider this factor, operator needs proper seating arrangement such that their problems regarding the MSDs can be reduced productivity will be increased (3). This is dealt by ergonomics that deals with making the work place safe, comfortable, efficient, and harmless as possible. This is achieved by proper balance between worker characteristics and task demands. In any work setting it is important to produce high quality products and it s been a main objective also. Labour is directly related to the productivity. Their ability, skills, productivity and performance have a great importance towards the increased production (4). Hence proper ergonomics enhance worker productivity, provide worker safety, physical and mental well being and job

The Theory Of Mind Mechanism ( Tomm ) Though many of us may not realize it, humans have a remarkable set of abilities that allows us to understand, empathize with, and predict others thoughts and feelings. In other words, the average person is able to put himself in another s shoes. In our daily lives we tend to take this skill for granted. It is only when something goes wrong that we realize how important it actually is. For autistic individuals, this mindreading deficit is all too real. In fact, an inability to engage in this type of understanding of other s mental states is often taken as the hallmark sign of autism. Mindreading is defined as the ability to make sense of other people and to coordinate our behavior with theirs (Bermudez, 354). Many cognitive scientists believe the theory of mindmechanism (TOMM) is important to mindreading. These scientists contend that autistic individuals suffer from an impairment to this theory of mind module. However, others have argued that theory of mind, which is the ability to form beliefs about the mental states of others , is not a modular ability, but instead the result of the interaction of many different cognitive skills. In their paper Generous or Parsimonious Cognitive Architecture? Cognitive Neuroscience and Theory of Mind, Philip Gerrans and Valerie E. Stone take this view of theory of mind. I will review this paper and its arguments, then address the response to Gerrans and Stone made by Carl Hildebrand. Gerrans s and Stone s argument consists of

For example, before this movie, dozens of years had passed since the adult romantic comedy was in vogue, but When Harry Met Sally changed the trend. The film achieves this best by maintaining the focus on the relationship between the two title characters, never wandering off on unwelcome tangents. This is mainly because of the dynamics of the two character and how they their relationship with one another grows. Harry and Sally do, for a good portion of the film, have a strong platonic bond. They are the only friends in the film who talk about subjects other than romance. They joke about dead people s apartments, talk in silly accents, and do

The Role Of Women In Hamlet By William Shakespeare In the Elizabethan era, women were considered to be the weaker sex, they were dependent on man and were expected to do as told, without question. William Shakespeare captures the essence of being a woman in the play Hamlet, by introducing the characters, Gertrude and Ophelia. They are naive and gullible characters that look for advice from a male figure and are expected to act in a certain way that would please and not interfere with the opposite sex. As a result people are forced to change their lifestyle and hope for unemployment benefits, and pray that they will be hired again. The following writing is about an unemployed man named Michael who struggles to support himself and his family. He is a former construction worker who has been without a job for almost a year. When he goes to collect his unemployment benefits he is denied and becomes puzzled and angry as to why he could not collect his benefits. • 39. Respiratory System Andrea English Kaplan University A amp;P II Instructor: David Armoogam September 10, 2010 The respiratory system helps with breathing, inhaling and exhaling. The respiratory systems main function is to give oxygen to the body s cells and get rid of the carbon dioxide the cells produce. Breathing would be impossible without the respiratory system, which includes the nose, throat, voice box, windpipe, and lungs. In this essay I plan on explaining how the respiratory system functions as well as its parts. The exchange of two gases called oxygen and carbon dioxide, this process is called respiration. The book also states, The largest amount of air taken in one expiration is known as the vital capacity (VC). (Elsevier 2008). People that have diseases such as lung disease, emphysema, and heart problems have their tidal volume and vital capacity checked on a normal basis since conditions such as those can cause an abnormal amount of air going in and out of the lungs. When we use a lot of energy that requires us to use more oxygen since oxygen is what gives us the energy we need. The harder we work or run or do activities the more oxygen we need to intake to give to the millions of cells in the body. This is the reason when we run we breathe harder and deeper because our body is trying to keep up with us. When we breathe harder and faster our heart is also beating faster which is causing blood to pump more through the body each minute. Therefore the red blood cells make more trips and deliver more oxygen to the tissue cells also getting rid of more carbon dioxide than if we were doing nothing. Located in the medulla and pons of our brain is what is called the respiratory control center. In our book on page 382 it says, These centers are in turn regulated by a number of inputs from receptors located in varying areas of the body. These receptors can sense the need for changing the

It actually takes ten pounds of grain protein to produce one pound of beef protein. People in poor countries consume less than one fifth of that amount. Westerners who are concerned about the pressure of population on the world food resources should remember that their typical family of four are consuming more grain than it would take to feed a poor Indian couple with eighteen children. One of the most absurd aspects of poverty is the massive protein consumption of household pets in the West.
