those in need, and protect their cities. Truly that is hero, someone we should look up
to. Or is it? Today I was tasked with deciding whether or not, Batman and Superman
do more harm than good as role models and cultural icons. I have come to the
conclusion that they do more harm than good. It s important to note that I will be

Homo habilis had smaller molars and larger brains than the australopithecines, and
made tools from stone and perhaps animal bones. One of the first known hominids,
it was nicknamed handy man by discoverer Louis Leakey due to its association
with stone tools. Some scientists have proposed moving this species out of Homo
and into Australopithecus due to the morphology of its skeleton being more adapted
to living on trees rather than to moving on two legs like Homo sapiens. Homo
rudolfensis findings in Kenya have been suggested to be Homo habilis, but scientists
are unsure. The fossils found from these two species are said to be from about 1.8
million years ago.
Homo georgicus, named after the country Georgia, is said to possibly be an
intermediate form between Homo erectus and Homo habilis or a sub species of Homo
erectus.
Homo erectus lived from about 1.8 million to about 70,000 years ago. Many
scientist believe that the early stages of erectus, about 1.8 to 1.2 million years ago,
is a separate species called Homo ergaster, seen as a sub species of erectus. In the
early Pleistocene, 1.5 1 Ma, in Africa some populations of Homo habilis are thought
to have evolved more complex brains and made more elaborate stone tools; these
differences and others are sufficient for anthropologists to classify them as a new
species, Homo erectus.

Tim Burton is a unique American filmmaker that grew up watching horror movies,
and even lived near a cemetary. He was surely a self admitted oddball. However,
Tim s style always seems to appear in any movie he directs. A few movies are
Edward scissorhands, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Corpse Bride. These
movies represent his interests, inspirations, and life experiences. Some of Tim s
techniques are different, with a touch of darkness, and suspense to create his style of
flashbacks, gothic theme, and irony. One element that is contributed to Burton s
establishments, and cinematic style are flashbacks. Flashbacks show what occured in
the past. For example, in the film Edward scissorhands, there s a scene where Edward
Scissorhands has a flashback of his father replacing his hands with prosthetics.
Flashbacks make the audience feel sympathy, because he is close to getting hands
but his creator died. This flash back is essential for defining Burton s style, because
flashbacks are necessary to the plot, or gives characters depth and meaning. Similarly,
in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the director uses flashbacks in the scene where
Willy Wonka had a flashback of his childhood. In this scene, the audience learns
how Wonka s father was exteremely strict on eating candy. This goes to show how
Wonka became a candy maker. Furthermor, in Corpse bride Emily, the corpse bride,
has a flashback of when she was alive, and when she was in love with a lord. It finally

I selected by Gordon Parks entitled, Red Jackson, Harlem, New York, it was taken
in 1948. Gordon Parks, born November 30, 1912 in Fort Scott, Kansas. He
happened to be the youngest of fifteen children born to Andrew and Sarah Parks. His
mother taught him the virtues of hard work, dignity, and love, which led to his
success. He became a filmmaker, a writer, and a composer, although he utilized a
cameraas his weapon of choice. The point that I found extremely interesting
regarding Gordon Parks remains that not only was he multi talented, but I feel like
his struggles in his early life gave him the empathy needed to capture the struggles of
others, in a way that make us look past the labels that society put on people.
Gordon Parks, a black man, who lived during the great depression, worked odd
jobs, and understood the struggles of poverty. After his mother passed away in
1928, Gordon was sent to live with his sister and brother in law in St. Paul
Minnesota. After a disagreement with this brother in law he was not welcome in
their home. At just fifteen years old, Gordon found himself homeless. I feel like
Gordon could identify with a lot of the people he photographed. If his mother had
not instilled him with integrity, and had not found and honed his talent. He could
have ended up like several of the people he photographed. Finally, in 1938 during a
layover in Seattle, Washington, Gordon had an impulse to buy a camera. When he
