Paradise Lost And Frankenstein Comparison Essay
These wonderful narrations inspired me with strange feelings... . In Frankenstein the creature reads
books that contributed to his personality. Paradise Lost, Sorrows of Young Werther, Plutarch s
Lives, and Ruins of Empire were the four books that built the creature s personality. If the creature
were to read contrasting books his fate and overall personality might ve been better.
To begin with, Paradise Lost is by John Milton. The original sin committed by Adam and Eveis the
subject of Paradise Lost. The story also consists of the origin story of Satan. God banishes Satan to
hell. Wanting revenge Satan transformed into a snake and tempts Adam and Eve to eat the apple
from the Tree of knowledge and ultimately leads to the downfall of man. ... Show more content on

Palacio is a exceptional alternative for Paradise Lost. This book illustrates a story of August, a
ten year old boy born with a facial deformity that made it difficult to make friends. He s been
homeschooled for most of his life, and one day his parents decide that it was time for him to go
to a real school and they send him to Beecher prep. If the creature were to read this book he
would be able to relate Auggie. In Wonder, Auggie is different from the other students, but he
embraces his differences which allows him to make friends. The creature would also learn that it s
fine to be different and that personality matters more, he would also be able to make more positive
connections compared to Paradise Lost.
Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goetheis another book that influenced the
creature s personality. This book is basically about a summer spent in Werther a man who falls in
love with a woman already married to another. The woman never returns any of these feelings, and
Werther kills himself in the end. This story introduces the idea of suicide to the creature. By being
introduced to this idea, the creature begins to confront the idea of suicide and weighs the options
between living and ending his own

The Abstract Principles Of Sexuality And Race
The abstract principles of sexuality and race have always been delicate ideas for society to
comprehend. When you Google the word sexuality , you do not come across a gender specified
definition that constricts males and females to desire only one another. It simply states that it is the
sexual habits and desires of a person. Any person, male, female, transgender, or otherwise, can be
sexual with whomever they desire. So why is the dichotomy of homosexualityversus heterosexuality
such a pervasive notion?
There are multiple myths and facts about sexual orientation. Case Western Reserve University,
located in Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the most LGBT friendly campuses in the country. On their
website they host an page about their gender friendly campus that answers any common questions
one might have about such issues. No one knows what causes sexual orientation. Many lesbian,
gay and bisexual people know that they are attracted to members of their own sex at an early age,
sometimes as young as 6 or 7 years old. Others learn much later in life, in their 30 s, 40 s or later
still. Some research indicates that sexual orientation is determined between birth and age 3, but no
one is sure what causes particular orientations.
As for race, considering and supporting the theory of color on individuals and collaborating the
ideas to our community, in my opinion, seems to be much more of a delicate matter than sexuality.
The concept of race is a modern concept. In the

Imagery In The Chrysalids
A Chrysalis is a sheltered state or stage of being or growth . In the novel, The Chrysalids, John
Wyndham portrays a society so secluded from the world that it remains stagnant. Waknuk has
such an extreme belief system and those beliefs have been drilled in the minds of the people in
Waknuk. It created a society full of convergent thinkers. They believe their ways are the only true
way. They look down on people in their own society who are different in regards to the Definition
of Man and the true image. Anyone who violates the Definition of Man or the true image is
severely punished. But Waknuk is also frowned upon by the people of Sealand because of their
inability to use telepathy as a means of communication, prohibiting further advancements... Show

The society of Waknuk is driven by a Definition and true image. They teach subjects in favour of
their ideologies and ignore any outside information that might allow any dispute. People are taught
something they can never question, yet need to wholeheartedly believe. If they don t, they can be
punished. However, in Sealand, people are able to have their own set of beliefs and they are free to
share any of their opinions. If they do, they are not punished, rather, their opinions are taken into
account and valued. Through the use of David Strorm, John Wyndhamdisplays how hard it is to
leave behind the beliefs ingrained in a person from a young age and take on a new set of beliefs
characterized by one s own beliefs and values. Human nature is to rebel against change and
follow tradition. Time and time again, we see people struggle to embrace new ideas, follow their
own beliefs and values and live according to their own will, not one dictated by society. As the novel
displays, it takes a strong individual to stand up and oppose the ideologies of their society to
welcome their own morals and principles to live

The Theme Of Loneliness In Winesburg Ohio
After his wife s death sat all day in his empty office close by a window that was covered with
cobwebs. He never opened the window. Once on a hot day in August he tried but found it stuck fast
and after that he forgot all about it, (Anderson 35).
Dr. Reefy was happy when he married his wife, but after his wife died he was a lonely. He was
unable to communicate with others. He was trapped, and isolated from the world. He is
imprisoned in his room. This shows the theme of loneliness. The story began describing Dr. Reefy,
with adjectives such as old man with huge nose and hands. That already shows that this man is
going to be the outcast of the city winesburg Ohio. As we know, Dr. Reefy marriagewas brief. He

On the papers were written thoughts, end of thoughts, beginning of thoughts...and then faded away
and the little thoughts began again, (Anderson 37).
Dr. Reefy had a habit of taking little pieces of paper and writing his truths on them. He then puts
the paper in his pocket and after a few weeks he then throws them away. One of the first things
shown about him are his hands which looked like clusters of unpainted wooden balls as large as
walnuts fastened together by steel rods, (Anderson 9). The image of wooden balls connect to the
paper balls that he stuffs in his pockets. The paper balls represents the thoughts that he thinks. The
paper balls weigh him down same as his hands does. He take thoughts from the air and turn them
into truths. These truths are put in paper. Then he gets rid of it in order so no one can read them or

The Annunciation (Cleveland Museum Of Art, Cleveland
Formal Analysis of The Annuciation
The painting The Annunciation (Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland) was made in Netherlands,
or possibly France, in the 1380s, using tempera and oil with gold on wood panel. A vertical
composition of about 31.43 Г— 40.32 cm, the sacred iconography depicts the biblical scene of the
Archangel Gabriel, sent by God, announcing to the Virgin that she would soon give birth to Christ.
The artist, who was commissioned to draw this piece, is unknown. The patron probably
commissioned the artwork for devotional use. It might be part of a narrative polyptych, conveying
the biblical story of Christ, expressing the divinity of God and Christianity.
In the foreground, the two main figures of the scene, the Virgin and the Archangel, are markedly
painted larger than the figures in the background, and thus, they become the attractive focus of the
whole painting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The excellent employment of chiaroscuro vividly shows the texture of the front of the drapery,
depicting it realistically and three dimensionally. She has a golden halo with God s messages on
it behind her head, showing her divinity. She sits on an elevated throne with a calm look on her
face. However, she holds her hands in front of her breast, eyes gazing at God s message brought
by the Archangel, palms facing each other, indicating surprise and excitement due to the message.
The Virgin s serene facial expression contradicts her behavior, perhaps because the message not
only tells her the incarnation of Christ but also foreshadows his doomed death. Therefore, the
whole painting can be a polyptych. This piece is the beginning of the story, and other pieces, such
as Crucifixion, may be other parts of the

Essay On Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens is about a young orphan boy who leaves his orphanage to go to
London after years of mistreatment. Being an orphan since birth due to his mother s death and
father s absence, for the first nine years of his life, Oliver lives on what is referred to as a baby
farm. However, at the age of nine he was moved from this baby farm to a workhouse by a man
named Mr. Bumble. This is shown on page seven when a woman name Mrs. Mann, who Oliver
was under the care of for the first nine years of his life, introduces Mr. Bumble to Oliver. This
triggers the event that will begin Oliver s journey. While working at the workhouse, the living
conditions are poor and the boys who work there eat small portions of what is referred to as gruel.
One day, some of the boys decide to draw lots, whoever losing having to ask for more gruel. Young
Oliver Twist loses and the task to ask for more falls to him. One line that this book is known for
is then said by Oliver here on page 11 Please, sir, I want some more. This leads to an uproar that
leads to the workhouse attempting to get Oliver adopted to get him out of the way, beginning
his journey. Five pounds is offered to anyone who will take Oliver. After a close call where Oliver
is nearly taken by a cruel man named Mr. Gamfield, he is then adopted by a Mr. Sowerberry, an
older gentleman. He treats Oliver well and uses Oliver as a mourner at children s funerals.
However, due to his unhappy marriage, Mrs. Sowerberry

A Clean, Well Lighted Place
A clean, well lighted place may be needed more by some than others on dark, lonely nights. The
clean, well lighted cafГ© in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place represents a safe place
in which one can escape their troubles and loneliness that lurk in night s darkness. In the story
the characters of the older waiter and younger waiter differ substantially. They debate over the
old man s being in the cafГ©, which is an over stayed visit to the younger waiter. The younger
waiter longed for the old man to go home and eventually forced the old man to leave the cafГ©.
The older waiter displayed sympathy for the drunken old man and claimed that he is one of
those that likes to stay late at the cafГ©. The cafГ© represents more than just a place to drink; it
is symbolic and holds a deeper significance. The old man had attempted suicide and the waiters
discuss the possible reasoning behind it, claiming that he was in despair. We also know that the
old man is looked after by his niece who cut him down from the rope that he hung himself with.
It is easy to grow sympathy and empathy for the old man as the older waiter does. The younger
waiter feels differently towards the old man, claiming that An old man is a nasty thing (p. 153).
The younger waiter also told the old man that he should have killed himself last week (the old man
is deaf). There is minimal narration in the story; the story consists mostly of dialogue. The minimal
narration in the story allows the reader to

From 2006 2008, while I was working as a creative executive at Brightlight Pictures, I was
fortunate to develop and work on really cool films and TV series such as the half hour comedy
About A Girl for The N Network/Global. One project was a book that I loved called OLD
SOULS, and is based on a true story. The author, Tom Shroder, was an editor at the Washington
Post Magazine, and as a curious but skeptical man, convinced the acclaimed psychologist, Dr. Ian
Stevenson, to allow him access on his journey through India and Lebanon, meeting various case
studies of children who could remember and recount details about their past lives that would be
completely impossible for them to know otherwise. Over the course of the journey and his book,

Continuing My Studies and Specializing in Transfer Pricing
At the moment, my spirit to study becomes even more increasing after finishing my master in
International and European Tax Law at Maastricht University, the Netherlands last year. Though I
felt a little late to start pursuing my master in the age of 30, the study environment in the
Netherlands has brought me in many changes of life and encourages to deeply develop the
knowledge, in particular in the area of Transfer Pricing. This corresponds with my future objective
to be an expert in Transfer Pricing. Nowadays, Transfer Pricing has been the most issue in
International Taxationarea. The activity of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) which represents a
growing proportion of international trade may significantly lead to Transfer Pricing practice, in
particular within intra group transaction where income can be shifted from high taxjurisdiction to
low tax jurisdiction. Therefore, it is no doubt that such behavior may lead to tax base erosion. In
addition, it is not relatively easy to identify transactions indicated Transfer Pricing though the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has published its guideline on
how to identify Transfer Pricing abuse using the arm s length principle, the methods to apply,
comparability analysis and so on. There are not so many Transfer Pricing experts in the world, in
particular among Indonesia s tax authorities. Therefore, understanding a Transfer Pricing is
mandatory for me as my present task is also dealing with

Chemical Digestion Research Paper
The mouth does both mechanical digestion and chemical digestion. Mechanically, your incisors cut
food into small pieces, next your canines make the food pieces even smaller, than premolars and
molars crush and grind the food, finally saliva moistens the food to a slippery mass. Saliva contains
enzymes which speed the chemical reaction in the body, this part is the chemical digestion. Your
mouth is the first in your digestive system.
Your esophagus connects your mouth to your stomach. It is made of smooth muscle that pushes
your food to the stomach and is lined with mucus that makes food be easier to swallow and move
along. Food stays in your esophagus for about 10 seconds and is located in your throat.
The stomach is located in the abdomen and mechanically and chemically break down food.
Mechanically, three strong layers of muscles contract and turn your food. Chemically, the lining in
the stomach produces digestive juice that digests proteins with an enzyme called pepsin. It also
produces hydrochloric acid that pepsin works best in and it kills bacteria in your food. Your
stomach produces mucus that protects the stomach lining from the acid. Damaged or worn out cells
are quickly replaced. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your small intestine is six meters long but only two three centimeters wide. When liquid enters the
intestine, it mixes with enzymes and secretions, which are produced by the small intestine, and

The liver is located in the upper right portion of the abdomen and is the largest organ. Its job in the
digestive system is to produce bile, a substance that breaks up fat particles. It flows from the liver,
to the gallbladder, then into the small intestine. It physically breaks up the fat particles.
Your pancreas lies between the stomach and the small intestine. It produces enzymes that flow into

Analysis Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand
Is dystopian fiction, unremittingly bleak, leaving no room for hope, or is it a positive warning to
persuade us to speculate about the world that mankind has created.
On the surface, dystopian fiction is a bleak, depressing genre that offers a detailed and destructive
presentation of the very worst of social alternative , but in actuality it is a means of speculation that
reveals to the audience the real threats in society. It extrapolates contemporary socio political trends
taken into extremes , which compels its audience to re examine the values of their society, resulting
in an optimistic tale that gives the audience hope to escape their pessimistic future. Anthem by Ayn
Rand (1937) is a detailed portrait of a collectivist society overstated for the purpose of satire and
storytelling. As a politically conscious writer, Rand writes to communicate to her audience her
political perception into the destructive psychology of collectivism. This exposes the audience to
the risks of conformity, along with providing means to avoid this dystopian imagination
crystallising into reality.
Dystopias are a hyperbolic view of a familiar society s values, and assert that total control is
harmful to the individual. Anthem is a grim future Rand envisioned after experiencing first hand
the impacts of a brutal Stalinist rule . It was influenced by general socio political trend of
increasing signs of collectivism and oligarchy developing into more recent politics during the early

Why Is The Most Fearful Of A Strong Central Government Too...
The Bill of Rights, written by Antifederalists, shows us how some Americans were fearful of a
strong central government, how they wanted a limited government so it wasn t too powerful, and
how they protected basic individual rights. The Anti federalists begged and argued for a new list
that secured the rights they believed the original Constitution did not provide. There was a constant
debate between whether or not to add the Bill of Rights, because some people thought that if they
created it, all other rights were insignificant. Many Americans were fearful that the government
was going to have too much power because of the Constitution, but they felt secure if they made a
list of their official rights. Most of the people who wanted the Bill of Rights, were poor people,
who felt they needed a say in the government.
Americans were very apprehensive about what power the government would have and they didn t
want the new United States to become like England, which had a strong central government.
Amendment 1 talks about our original rights and the rights Congress cannot make laws against.
It says, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, and ... freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, (Amendment 1). This
shows us that they were fearful of King George s violation of these essential rights. Since King
George didn t follow these, they decided that it would be a good idea to make it an official law. This

Redcrosse In The First Canto Of Edmund Spenser s The...
Though the desire for excitement and adventure lives in everyone, even if the definition for such
things varies for each person, it is safe to say there are some who are more inclined to achieve
their desires rather than watch them pass by. This inclination is a driving force that can, and often
does, lead to disastrous or unnecessary outcomes. In watching Redcrosse in the first canto of
Edmund Spensers, The Faerie Queene, it is seen that humankind can be selfish and inconsiderate
of who or what it may affect. So much so that a sheltered, nursing mother is ultimately killed
when all she was trying to do was protect herself and her young. In the end, it was not the beast s

She is hidden in darkness so that she may see no one, as well, as no one see her, but this is not
what Redcrosse had in mind. Instead of recognizing that he was the intruder and backing out, he
made his presence be known, startling Errour s young, which forced her to engage in physical
defense and do everything in her power to keep her family safe. The ensuing battle that led to the
gory death of Errour and her young, could have been prevented if only Redcrosse s decisions had
not revolved around such a narrow minded outlook. A family was destroyed by a blatant lack of
judgement and disregard for anything besides a selfish thirst for excitement that could have easily
been obtained without the resulting destruction.
There is no doubt Redcrosse deserved to have excitement and adventure in his life, but how he
obtained this was out of arrogance and ignorance. He caused many lives to be destroyed all
because he refused to believe there was any other way he could have achieved his desire. Without
stopping to think about the consequences of his selfishness, Redcrosse led his companions into

The Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico
Principles Environmental Science Introduction Rig of the drilling Deep water Horizon operated
under British petroleum failed in its operation sinking below the seawater of the Gulf of Mexico
on the 20th of April 2010. More than 11 workers lost their lives. After this incident, tons and tons
of oil gushed from the main opening of the well, buried 1600 meters below the sea level.
Necessary steps have been taken to take control on the spill but still there is much to handle when it
comes to the consistent danger being faced by the environment. The main culprit ingredient of the
incident is the petroleum posing a number of disastrous effects to the environment. Types of Air
and Water Pollutants Fresh oil present on the surface of the Gulf of Mexico being the primary
pollutant evaporates in the air. This oil is broken down into tiny particles called the aerosols, which
are designated to be the secondary pollutants. The aerosols that include certain classes of
hydrocarbons are not easily broken down hence remaining in the air. Other than the aerosols, a
significant amount of alkyl nitrates, hexane, methane, and butane compounds have been identified
in the air which along with the aerosols are skin irritants and can cause dizziness (Landau, 2011, p.
67). Aerosols have been related to lung cancers. Surprisingly, the concentration of these compounds
in the air is much higher when compared to the highly polluted environments of Los Angeles,

Analysis of Pauline Puyat’s Tracks Essay
Analysis of Pauline Puyat s TracksВ
One of the most striking characteristics of Pauline Puyat is her devout Catholicism and her desire
to be disconnected from the Ojibwa people. Throughout Tracks, she openly chooses Catholicism
over her native religion and abandons her native ways almost completely. When Pauline tries to
help Fleur prevent a miscarriage, she is literally held back by her conscious separation from the
Ojibwa culture.
There are many things that Pauline fails to do to effectively prevent Fleur from miscarrying. The
most obvious is her failure to efficiently put together the herbal steep made of Alder: And I could

Pauline s personification of the plants only continues this idea of confusion and abandonment. Her
prayer to the Catholic God is almost ironic; Pauline is begging her God to help her remember the
practices that she thinks sacrilegious.
Pauline s Catholicism and her duties as an Angel of Death continue to control her for the rest of
the passage. Before giving Fleur the Alder (or whatever herb she actually grabbed) steep,
Pauline is captivated by her face: Fleur s eyes were closed. Her face was drained of color. I k
new this look and I was fascinated, rapt, as at other death and sickbeds (157). Here, Pauline
forgets what she is doing for Fleur and reverts to her duty as the Angel of Death, abandoning her
Ojibwa ways for Catholicism. This seems to create further confusion for Pauline, as Fleur must
instruct her on what to do with the alder plant. When Pauline puts herself to that task, she finds
that she is unable to do anything because the Lord overtook [her] limbs and made them
clumsy...it must have been his terrible will (157). Pauline feels that God does not want her to
help Fleur, and is preventing her from doing so by deadening her limbs. Although she is trying to
help Fleur, she simply cannot. Pauline s claims that clumsiness and forgetfulness of Ojibwa
traditions is God s terrible will, are a claim of validity for both her follies in this passage and her
stubborn separations from the Ojibwa.

Better Planning and Control:
MIS has to be designed and managed in such way that it aggregates information, monitors the
company s activities and operations and enhances communication and collaboration among
employees (Obrien). This ensures better planning for all activities and better ways to measure
performance, manage resources and facilitate compliance with industry and government
regulations. Control helps in forecasting, preparing accurate budgets and providing the tools and

Core Competencies:
Every market leading enterprise will have at least one core competency that is, a function they
perform better than their competition. By building an exceptional management information system
into the enterprise it is possible to push out ahead of the competition. MIS systems provide the
tools necessary to gain a better understanding of the market as well as a better understanding of the

Building A Working Environment For A Small Coffee Shop Essay
Scenario
A property developer is converting an old railway station into retail and office accommodation.
The client is keen to make the working environment for the staff as comfortable as possible. As a
consultant, explain how this can be done by addressing the relevant grading criteria.
Introduction
I am hoping to convert this railway station into an office with a small coffee shop also in the
building. The railway station is very old and hard to heat, so there will have to be a large amount of
work done to make the building a nice place for people to work. There also isn t any lighting in the
surrounding area so I will have to think about that when I am contracting the building proposal. The
three factors that will have to be considered are Heat, Lighting and Acoustics, these are the main
things that will ensure comfort within the offices and corner shop if they are at the optimum level.
I will now work through the assignment and always think of the changes required to transform the

Cardiovascular Disease And Cardiovascular Diseases
According to the WHO, cardiovascular diseases have been the leading cause of death globally
claiming 17 million lives a year, more deaths than all cancer combined (Chiu and Radisic, 2013).
Cardiovascular disease is responsible for a preponderance of health problems and its impact is
expected to grow further as the population ages. In the UK, NHS spends about ВЈ7.74 billion as the
expenditure to deal with cardiovascular diseases (Barton et al., 2011). Cardiovascular disease in the
form of myocardial infarction has become the principle cause of death in developed countries,
accounting for nearly 40% of all deaths (http://www.bhf.org.uk/). Congenital heartdefects, which
occur in nearly 14 of every 1000 new born children, is another tragic fact that baffles medical
industry (http://www.heart.org/). About 61 million Americans (almost one fourth of the
population) live with cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary heart disease, congenital
cardiovascular defects, and congestive heart failure.
These stated facts very well implicate an imperative need to investigate promising alternative
treatment strategies as well preventive measures. Impairment in cardiac functions, organ (heart)
failure or trigger of compensatory mechanisms (hypertrophy, neurohumoral system activation,
autokrine, paracrine stimulation, etc) are the result of loss in cardiac myocytes predominantly due
to myocardial infarction (Zimmermann and Eschenhagen, 2003). In addition to the traditional

The Stock Market Of The United States
The stock market in the United States is run so anyone can view the trades, their values and no
information is hidden. Compared to the stock market, the bond market is run behind closed doors
causing problems in the economy. The difference between the two markets became more
understood during the Great Recession. When the unethical ways of individuals in the selling of
bonds caused corruption that contributed to the recession, many people were hit by the
repercussions of the selfish actions. Selling the bonds to people who weren t in good financial
situations became a normal action which cheated many individuals out of money. The bondmarket

because he worked for a triple A rated company willing to sell them (Lewis, 70). The triple A

together to appear as a better rating, even though the group was just a bunch of poorly rated
bonds all together. When the bonds would be sold, no knowledge of the terrible ratings had to be

wouldn t have had the chance to bankrupt many people and have so many people default their
payments due to the awful loans the banks were providing. AIG was selling the packaged credit

Life Changing Events Happened From New York City
Life changing events happened in New York City. On September 11th, 2001 was without a
doubt, one of the most terrorizing experiences in the history of our Nation. You heard screams of
agony from people who were trying to seek safety for their loved ones. Pillars of smoke filled the
sky as innocent people cried out with agony and hurt of the injured and of people who didn t
understand what was going on. The streets were filled with clouds of dust and debris. The news
reporters told of the gripping story of how terror had struck the very hearts of the American
people. Our President, George W. Bush gave clear and concise demands to the events within a
few days following the horrible attacks on the Twin Towers. The demands that later led to new
ACT s being passed by Congress, would have a drastic change to what we call Civil Liberties.
By definition Civil Liberties is the state of being subjected only to laws that are established for
the good of the community, especially in terms of our freedom of action and speech. When we
think of the violation of Civil Liberties we think of those who are detained under specific verbiage,
all the while understanding the Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpuswill be measured for its

Key Economic Concepts Of Health Care Essay
There are 10 key economic concepts of health care. Each of the economic concepts is important
when evaluating the different issues related to health care such as the increasing cost of health care.
Henderson (2015), list the 10 concepts as follows: scarcity and choice, opportunity cost, marginal
analysis, self interest, markets and pricing, supply and demand, competition, efficiency, market
failure, and comparative, advantage. The concept scarcity and choice address the issues related to
the limited supply resources and the need to economize (Henderson, 2015). An illustration of the
importance of the scarcity and choice concept is when there is a low quantity of available resources
to meet the demand of individuals and rationing occurs. Opportunity costemphasizes... Show more

The marginal analysis in relation to health care economics is a way of thinking about the optimal
allocation of resources and making decisions at the margin (Henderson, 2015). Self interest
relates to economic decision makers personal interest that affects the decisions they make
(Henderson, 2015). The markets and pricing concept is used to efficiently allocate the resources
that are considered scarce (Henderson, 2015). The supply and demand concept is used as a tool
in performing economic analysis (Henderson, 2015). Competition creates an environment where
resource owners are forced to use their resources to promote the highest possible satisfaction of
society (Henderson, 2015). Efficiency is used to measure how well resources are being used to
promote social welfare (Henderson, 2015). Market failure is when the free market fails to promote
the efficient use of resources (Henderson, 2015). Comparative advantage explores people benefit

b) Port Scans A port scan is another common network probe that is generally used by intruders to
establish services that are actually running on the target machine (SANS Institute, 2002). Port
scans allow intruders to establish vulnerable services in machines where attacks can be
successfully launched. As such, a port scan refers to a process where a hacker attempts to
establish a connection with target machine on various TCP or UDP ports in order to spot potential
vulnerabilities of the system (Wild Packets, 2002). Port scans are generally easy to perform since it
involves connecting to a series of ports on the target machine and identifying the ones that respond.
Programmers can actually write a simple port scanner in a few minutes, but these are usually very
easily detected by the operating system on the target machine as describe in the following paragraph.
Detection and Defense against Port Scans Port scans are legally accepted unless an attacker uses
information from a port scan to exploit vulnerabilities on a system (SANS Institute, 2002). As such,
organizations must be more vigilant and protect their systems by minimizing information gained
from port scans especially when running a publicly accessible web server. For instance, http should

Maus and Persepolis
Persepolis and Maus: Two Survivors and Their Stories.
Of the many items that help enhance the horror of the Nazi Holocaust, one of the most notable is
what it had of systematic and bureaucratic. Not only killing people, which would have had
already been enough, but precisely being made in a quiet and civilized way. It is not strange the
image of the Nazi leader quoting his favorite poet while sending to death hundreds of people,
belying the myth that culture and education make people better. The Holocaust was primarily an
act performed with such rationality that could only become insane. It almost seems that it could
have been avoided by appealing to the same reason as well served to run it.

Today, Many Tend To Believe That Videogames Have Major
Today, many tend to believe that videogames have major negative effects on the brain and a
person s well being. People and scientists believe that videogames can be addictive after a while,
they can make children antisocial, and they negatively influence young children and teens.
Although many like to believe that videogames are more harmful than helpful, there are actually
more positives than negatives. With video games, kids learn quick thinking, multitasking, problem
solving, logic, and much more. In fact, some schools have adopted the idea of offering game
design in the library as a way to help enhance children and teens thinking. These are just a few of
the many traits that kids will need later on in life.

The effects of video games on the development of children and teenagers minds has been a
controversial topic for many years. For example, Mortal Kombat was a video game created years
ago that included intense blood and gore for the time period in which it was created. Therefore,
the Entertainment Software Rating Board was created. ERSB s goal was to create a rating
system for video games. Different video games have different ratings depending upon the
content that the ERSB thinks is okay for a specific age group. These ratings were established
purely to make sure that small children did not see or hear things that they shouldn t for their
age. The rating system goes as E (everyone), E+10 (everyone 10 and up) T (Teens), M (mature
17+), A (Adult only). E rated games meant that those video games had content acceptable for
anyone and everyone, even small children. Those games were mostly cartoon made. If the video
games were specifically meant for children, they were most likely based off of children s movies
or shows. E+10 rated video games contain slightly more violence in them. Hence why they are
rated for anyone 10 and up. These games only have slightly more violence because by the age of
ten, they have been introduced to more adult content. However not by much since they still don t

segment is shampoo. The key players in this industry are P G, Unilever, Marico and Dabur that
account for 52% of the market share (Hair Care in India, 2015).
The hair care market s growth rate in the United States is increasing with a much lower growth rate
than Indian. Another key difference is that the key product segments are different in both countries.
But the leading companies are the same in the Unites States and in India; they both have P G and
Unilever as two main players in the hair care industry.
Demand Drivers
Some of the factors that drive the industry in the Unites States are an increasing hair related
problems among consumers, new hair care products innovations and increasing demand for natural
and organic hair care products. This change has occurred because of consumers increased awareness
about the negative effects of harsh substances and chemicals.
The factors that drive the hair care industry in India are increased pollution and health issues.
Consumers become more aware about hair loss, damaged hair and other hair related issues. Also,
emerging economy, improvement in living standards and rising hygiene awareness help to drive
the growth of hair care industry because consumers are more willing to spend extra money in order
to get better products for their hair.

Merrymakers at Shrovetide vs Interrupted Sleep

Each time period and movement have influenced artists from its first existence to even this very

When comparing the two paintings style there are many similarities as Interrupted Sleep of the
Rococo period came after the tail end of the Baroque period in which Merrymakers at Shrovetide
was completed. Hals painting show s well indulged and plump figures with fairly muted colors
with some use of reds. It is a centrally planned composition with no landscape only an endless
crowd of merry men. The painting is also quite dark overall with nice value and shading, as the
setting is in a tavern during the evening with little natural light. Although with Hals technique of
using dashing brushstrokes, the painting appears as if it could come to life with its realistic
rendering of the tavern scene. This technique goes unnoticed until one closes in upon the painting
to view his actually brush strokes which could possibly even be counted. Unlike Merrymakers at
Shrovetide, Boucher s Interrupted Sleep illustrates two tall and thin figures of elegance upon a
quiet countryside scene. The painting is lighter in value with natural sunlight and contains a
number of more colors making it a more upbeat and pleasant picture. The rich and lavish vegetation
spreads through the background with a small and rounded architectural form. The brush stroke is
smoother and gives the painting a more natural and quiet appeal as it is overall more intimately
themed. Like in Hals painting, Boucher takes advantage of value and uses it with folds

Henrik Isben s A Doll s House Essay
Nora is a captivating character in Ibsen s A Doll s House. She swings between extremes: she is
either very happy or immensely depressed, prosperous or completely desperate, wise or naive,
impotent or purposeful. You can understand this range in Nora, because she staggers between the
person she pretends to be and the one she someday hopesto become. Throughout the play, Norais
portrayed as subordinate to her male counterpart, Torvald. As most other men during this time,
Torvald believed that women were not capable of making difficult decisions, or thinking for
themselves. As the play progresses, Nora faces a life changing decision to abandon her duty as a

You can hear his resentment towards Nora when he exclaims, you are ill, Nora quot; (pg.63).
She is shocked into reality and sees what a masquerade their relationship has been. She becomes
aware that her father and her husband have seen her as a doll to be played with, a figure without
opinion or will of her own. She also realizes that she is treating her children the same way. Her
whole life has been based on illusion rather than reality.
The believability of the play hinges on your accepting Nora s sudden self awareness. Perceiving
the situation differs as she might feel that she has been a child so long she couldn t possibly grow
up that quickly. Or she might feel that she is already quite wise without realizing it, and that what
happens is credible.
A common reaction would be one of sadness for Torvald s loss. He s a straight laced, proper man,
who has worked his whole life to support her and their family. At first, he seems genuinely in
love with Nora, even if he does tend to nag and preach a bit. But as the play progresses, you
discover more disturbing parts of his character. Like anyone who doubts his own power, Torvald
tries to frequently prove it. He keeps firm authority over who comes to his study and whom he
converses with at work, and over everything

Review Of The Handmaid s Tale
Comparing a book to the movie that is a product of that book is always a difficult thing, but with
The Handmaid s Tale the novel and movie were quite similar. Set in the near future, in a
totalitarian society post overthrowing of the United States government, The Handmaid s Tale
explores the idea that people will endure oppression willingly as long as they receive some slight
amount of power or freedom in return. This can be seen prominently in both the film and novel.
However, although the overall idea was the same, the way that it was perceived through the movie
is drastically different than through the text version. In the novel there is a eminent absence of real
names, and Handmaids are instead referred to by nicknames that signify the Commanders they
serve. They reveal little to nothing about the Handmaids, except for the absence of their personal
identities. Equivalently, although the Aunts have individual, feminine alias, they aren t their birth
names either. Significantly, it s noticed in the novel that we were never given the name of Offred,
nor her child. This differs from the movie greatly where the characters interact with each other
considerably more than depicted in the paperback most likely to make the film more entertaining
to watch, but greatly taking away from a main component of Atwood s story. To make what I
believe is less confusing for viewers, characters were appointed names in the flick. For example, the

Her secret to staying beautiful? She says she feels her best when she s healthy and strong. She
needed to start taking care of herself during the early years in her acting career when an agent told
her shewas too chubby and couldn t get any part.
Now, Aniston exercises six days every week and watches her diet, according to CNN. But before
her glam squad taught her how to contour her face, she was waiting on customers.
Her early Career Beginnings started out like most aspiring actresses hoping to make it in the big

of the day (and night) at Off Broadway. You can definitely imagine Jennifer Aniston as a fancy
waitress when she took on that job in the long time running hit TV series F.R.I.E.N.D.S. But

George Orwell s Animal Farm
American Journalist Carl Hiaasen once said, Good satire comes from anger. It comes from a
sense of injustice, that there are wrongs in the world that need to be fixed
(www.brainyquote.com). In George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, Orwell fuels his inspiration for
the novel from his anger and dislike towards the misuse of governmental power, and the corruption
that occurs when the government has too much power. The pigs in this novel represent a
government s leaders and the effects of what happens when a government gains too much power
and influence over its people. The pigs, especially their leader Napoleon, misuse their power and
use it to take advantage of the animal with a lower intelligence level. Orwell satirizes Napoleon by
giving him the characteristics of a ruthless dictator who uses education, violence, and rhetoric to
control the other animals on the farm.
The pigs use rhetoric to convince the animals to adopt Napoleon as their leader and remain loyal
to him. The animals on the farm spend their lives being a slave to the farm. Napoleon, however,
abuses the animals loyalty, and even though they spend every day of their lives trying to please
him, they are never good enough for Napoleon. They are constantly reminded that Bravery is not
enough... loyalty and obedience are more important (55). After the deadly battle that allowed
Animal Farm to be a free state, Squealer, Napoleon s messenger, convinces the farm animals that
their bravery in the battle was not

Sagging Pants Is Deviant Behavior Essay
A deviant behavior is a label attached to a person s activity that is conducted in a manner outside
the normalized zone of conformity within a society. There is the perception of how people view
or understand certain demeanors. Next, a behavior may be considered illegal in the eyes of the
law and it may also be viewed as immoral, unethical or inappropriate in the eyes of the people.
Moreover, deviant behavior is conceptualized in the eyes of the public even when an act is not
illegal.
Although this may be true, there is still the circle of cultural beliefs and upbringings among certain
groups of people that may not actually consider an act deviant or illegal. People in a community
have attachments to their own family, peers and social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, wearing saggy pants is a matter of free will and of choice. It is part of a
person s identity. Why would wearing pants that show underwear be considered deviant?
Feldman(1984) indicates, norms are enforced to show people what type of behaviors are accepted
within a members of society. Furthermore, this raises the point in asking the question, why there are
no rules against women wearing revealing tops? In my opinion, I think it s just a matter of choice
and how members of a society view such acts which are not criminalistic.
I believe that sagging may be more predominant in lower classes such as college freshmen
because they are just getting out of high school and may still be more involved in the trendy urban
fashion statements. Next, in regards to sagging being used by upper level classmen such as seniors,
I think that they would tend to use less of sagging pants because of their age and maturity level.
In the same fashion, I believe school dropouts would tend to sag more than medical doctors
because of the difference in professionalism. In my opinion, doctors are professionals and are not
trying to look cool or make a fashion statement. In addition, I believe that some dropouts would
have a lesser sense of ethical and acceptable morals. But, at the same time, I still find wearing
specific styles of clothing is a matter of choice.
I think that the answer to this question may take on

Nation s aid to Ireland during the famine in 1847. The tribe sent over 170 dollars in an aid to help

that 1831 the Choctaw Indians were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands in Mississippi to

Another principle of the Jacksonian Democracy was the rotation system. Jackson limited a person
s stay in office to just one term, and then appoint another in his place. Jacksonian Democrats
believed that any American was capable of holding government office. Jackson also said that if a
man were to hold office for a lengthy period of time, he would be capable of tolerating conduct
from which an unpracticed man would revolt .
Along with rotation, the Jacksonian Democrats reestablished the spoils system. Jackson fired any
previous office holder who was not a loyal Democrat. He would then appoint a Democrat to that
position. The spoils system and rotation were advances toward greater political democracy, because
they showed that one man is just as good as another is.
In addition to creating a more democratic country, Jackson also tried to establish equal economic
opportunity for the people of America. The best example of this is the vetoing of the charter of the
Bank of the United States. The bank was a huge monopoly. It was ran by aristocrats, most of which
were from England. Nicholas Biddle, who was the president of the bank, often used funds from the
bank to lend money to the members of Congress, thus wining their support.
In his veto message, Jackson wrote, It is to be regretted that rich and powerful too often bend the
acts of government to their selfish purposes. This

Summary Of The New England Primer
In today s culture, people do not generally give God very much place in their lives. Most people
want to believe God is either non existent or non important. Many colonists of early America knew
better than this. They knew that God is the only One they should glorify and worship, and thus
they looked to Him for guidance on their endeavor in the new world. Most of the early American
colonists made Goda part of every aspect of their lives, and they wanted to use their lives for His
glory.
The colonists created a political system where the people worked together to create laws, and
promised to govern themselves to the glory of God. Their government was by the people because
they all placed themselves under a covenant to each other. In The Mayflower ... Show more content

Religion was a huge part of their political, educational, and social life because God was very
important to them. In describing the Great Awakening, Jonathan Edwards tells of the result of the
preaching of George Whitefield when Edwards said, Immediately after this, the minds of the
people in general appeared more engaged in religion, showing a greater forwardness to make
religion the subject of their conversation . Most of the colonists wanted to raise their children to
know God, and thus they educated them in their religion. Some of them wanted to honor God in
their relationships and thus they tried to obey what God commanded in Scripture, and treat their
brethren as they would want to be treated. The purpose of starting the colonies was to glorify God
and they aimed to glorify Him with their government as well. The colonists started the colonies, in
many cases because they wanted to give glory to God and often because they wanted to reach the
natives and convert them to the gospel. They wanted to honor Him in their political system and
their governing of themselves so that they could all live together in unity. During the Great
Awakening, many of the colonists had their minds on salvation and this would have caused them to
live their lives trying to serve God and thus serve each

Similarities Between Tiananmen Square And Fahrenheit 451
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter. Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep
themselves alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future.
In China, many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s
students gathered in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their
communist government. There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and
restrictions on the future of the students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could
have a dialogue with the government. They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students
gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings, staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the
government let the protests continue. When it was out of control, the students were pushed to
leave. When the students refused, chaos broke loose. Many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In Tiananmen Square, the protesters were given a warning. The were ordered to clear the square
before punishment arrived. The protesters refused to clear, so On June 2, Yang ordered a military
crackdown on the student demonstrators and the clearance of Tiananmen Square on the grounds
that a counter revolutionary riot was fermenting and continued instability would retard economic
reform (Tiananmen Square Incident: Cold War). This shows that after being advised to halt the
rebellion, consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration
caused instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability. It is clear
that in the rebellion of Tiananmen Square, protesters were given a chance to clear away before

American Criminal Justice System In The 19th Century
At the end of the 19th century, the American criminal justice system was in a state of ruin and
disorder. With the conclusion of the Industrial Revolution, poverty had spread widely across the
US, and the crime rate almost quadrupled. However, the onset of the 1900s ushered reformation and
a new direction in the criminal justicesystem. During this new era, the American law system greatly
advanced mainly through the evaluation of the Cleveland Survey, the professionalization of the
modern police, and the development of the Model Penal Code.
First of all, the Cleveland Survey was the first crime survey in the US which later was embraced by
the criminal justice system. In the Cleveland Survey, detailed examinations were made of the police

very slow to develop and even non existent in some areas. There was also a lack of respect
between the police and the community, and agencies were led by highly autocratic leaders.
However, in the mid 20th century, advancements in technology had a significant impact on
policing. The result of these new technologies was a complex and contradictory change in police
citizen contacts. Whereas the patrol car isolated the police from the people on the streets, the
telephone brought police officers into people s living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms. There,
officers became involved in the most intimate domestic problems ( Police: History Policing
Twentieth century America†the Reform Era , para 8). Professional officers emphasized their
functions of law enforcement and crime prevention through random motorized patrol and rapid
response to calls for service. The policing system soon became centralized, specialized, and

Meeting At Seward County Community College Essay
Meeting Characteristics for Conflict Management and Resolution Meetings are a common tool used
by companies and organizations for a variety of purposes, and they can be implemented in a variety
of ways. Properly implemented, meetings can be effective, productive, and increase involvement of
the participants at the meetings. If not implemented properly, meetings can be costly as well as
unproductive for both the leader and the participants. By examining recent meetingcharacteristics of
Wheatridge Park Care Center and the Phi Theta Kappa organization at Seward County Community
College, a better understanding of the positive and negative aspects of various meeting styles may
be explored through applying and analyzing the events of the meeting against conflict management
principles recommended in Raines (2013).
Wheatridge Park Care Center Meeting Wheatridge Park Care Center has demonstrated several
aspects that adhere to the suggestions of Raines (2013), and that have worked well for the
participants at the meetings. Wheatridge Park s meetings can be broken down into two parts, which
are the department meetings and the all staff meetings. Each of the five departments at Wheatridge
Park Care Center conducts department meetings once a month with the employees in that
department. The department meetings typically address issues such as information employees need
to know, changes in the department, dealing with nonstructural sources of conflict, and build on
team cognition.

Thomas Aquinas Beliefs
Thomas Aquinas believed that God is wisdom and truth. He also believed that the ultimate end of
the whole universe is Truth and this is also the aim of the wise. This truth is incarnated in the
person of Jesus Christ. He believed that someone who seeks wisdom aims at the truth. He pointed
out that the teacher must be the role model for his or her pupils. The students will learn by
spending time with the teacher. It is not basically learning by listening. A learner must see how the
teacher is living out what he or she teaches. It is necessary that the teacher has good personality

He or she has the authority to teach the subject matter. This is important because it will show that
the teacher is knowledgeable to his or her subject thus his or her students will begin to have faith
that what he or she will impart is trustworthy and is the truth. He also believed that faith also
applies for the scientific understanding not only in religion. For him, we could not live in this
world without faith. Trust and faith in teaching and learning is the most important part of the
students and teacher relationship. Learning is not facilitated if there is distant relationship with the
teacher and his or her students. This will not promote the trust of the students to the teacher. The
students need the right motivation for learning especially the right state which includes the
encouragement coming from the teacher. Aquinas also believed that the students must play his or

Wilfred Owens, an English poet and soldier, is well known for his poems about war. Born in

  • 2. Paradise Lost And Frankenstein Comparison Essay These wonderful narrations inspired me with strange feelings... . In Frankenstein the creature reads books that contributed to his personality. Paradise Lost, Sorrows of Young Werther, Plutarch s Lives, and Ruins of Empire were the four books that built the creature s personality. If the creature were to read contrasting books his fate and overall personality might ve been better. To begin with, Paradise Lost is by John Milton. The original sin committed by Adam and Eveis the subject of Paradise Lost. The story also consists of the origin story of Satan. God banishes Satan to hell. Wanting revenge Satan transformed into a snake and tempts Adam and Eve to eat the apple from the Tree of knowledge and ultimately leads to the downfall of man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Palacio is a exceptional alternative for Paradise Lost. This book illustrates a story of August, a ten year old boy born with a facial deformity that made it difficult to make friends. He s been homeschooled for most of his life, and one day his parents decide that it was time for him to go to a real school and they send him to Beecher prep. If the creature were to read this book he would be able to relate Auggie. In Wonder, Auggie is different from the other students, but he embraces his differences which allows him to make friends. The creature would also learn that it s fine to be different and that personality matters more, he would also be able to make more positive connections compared to Paradise Lost. Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goetheis another book that influenced the creature s personality. This book is basically about a summer spent in Werther a man who falls in love with a woman already married to another. The woman never returns any of these feelings, and Werther kills himself in the end. This story introduces the idea of suicide to the creature. By being introduced to this idea, the creature begins to confront the idea of suicide and weighs the options between living and ending his own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Abstract Principles Of Sexuality And Race The abstract principles of sexuality and race have always been delicate ideas for society to comprehend. When you Google the word sexuality , you do not come across a gender specified definition that constricts males and females to desire only one another. It simply states that it is the sexual habits and desires of a person. Any person, male, female, transgender, or otherwise, can be sexual with whomever they desire. So why is the dichotomy of homosexualityversus heterosexuality such a pervasive notion? There are multiple myths and facts about sexual orientation. Case Western Reserve University, located in Cleveland, Ohio, is one of the most LGBT friendly campuses in the country. On their website they host an page about their gender friendly campus that answers any common questions one might have about such issues. No one knows what causes sexual orientation. Many lesbian, gay and bisexual people know that they are attracted to members of their own sex at an early age, sometimes as young as 6 or 7 years old. Others learn much later in life, in their 30 s, 40 s or later still. Some research indicates that sexual orientation is determined between birth and age 3, but no one is sure what causes particular orientations. As for race, considering and supporting the theory of color on individuals and collaborating the ideas to our community, in my opinion, seems to be much more of a delicate matter than sexuality. The concept of race is a modern concept. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Imagery In The Chrysalids A Chrysalis is a sheltered state or stage of being or growth . In the novel, The Chrysalids, John Wyndham portrays a society so secluded from the world that it remains stagnant. Waknuk has such an extreme belief system and those beliefs have been drilled in the minds of the people in Waknuk. It created a society full of convergent thinkers. They believe their ways are the only true way. They look down on people in their own society who are different in regards to the Definition of Man and the true image. Anyone who violates the Definition of Man or the true image is severely punished. But Waknuk is also frowned upon by the people of Sealand because of their inability to use telepathy as a means of communication, prohibiting further advancements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The society of Waknuk is driven by a Definition and true image. They teach subjects in favour of their ideologies and ignore any outside information that might allow any dispute. People are taught something they can never question, yet need to wholeheartedly believe. If they don t, they can be punished. However, in Sealand, people are able to have their own set of beliefs and they are free to share any of their opinions. If they do, they are not punished, rather, their opinions are taken into account and valued. Through the use of David Strorm, John Wyndhamdisplays how hard it is to leave behind the beliefs ingrained in a person from a young age and take on a new set of beliefs characterized by one s own beliefs and values. Human nature is to rebel against change and follow tradition. Time and time again, we see people struggle to embrace new ideas, follow their own beliefs and values and live according to their own will, not one dictated by society. As the novel displays, it takes a strong individual to stand up and oppose the ideologies of their society to welcome their own morals and principles to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Theme Of Loneliness In Winesburg Ohio After his wife s death sat all day in his empty office close by a window that was covered with cobwebs. He never opened the window. Once on a hot day in August he tried but found it stuck fast and after that he forgot all about it, (Anderson 35). Dr. Reefy was happy when he married his wife, but after his wife died he was a lonely. He was unable to communicate with others. He was trapped, and isolated from the world. He is imprisoned in his room. This shows the theme of loneliness. The story began describing Dr. Reefy, with adjectives such as old man with huge nose and hands. That already shows that this man is going to be the outcast of the city winesburg Ohio. As we know, Dr. Reefy marriagewas brief. He was 45 when he married quiet, ... Dr. Reefy had a habit of taking little pieces of paper and writing his truths on them. He then puts the paper in his pocket and after a few weeks he then throws them away. One of the first things shown about him are his hands which looked like clusters of unpainted wooden balls as large as walnuts fastened together by steel rods, (Anderson 9). The image of wooden balls connect to the paper balls that he stuffs in his pockets. The paper balls represents the thoughts that he thinks. The paper balls weigh him down same as his hands does. He take thoughts from the air and turn them into truths. These truths are put in paper. Then he gets rid of it in order so no one can read them or judge him because of ... • 6. The Annunciation (Cleveland Museum Of Art, Cleveland Formal Analysis of The Annuciation The painting The Annunciation (Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland) was made in Netherlands, or possibly France, in the 1380s, using tempera and oil with gold on wood panel. A vertical composition of about 31.43 Г— 40.32 cm, the sacred iconography depicts the biblical scene of the Archangel Gabriel, sent by God, announcing to the Virgin that she would soon give birth to Christ. The artist, who was commissioned to draw this piece, is unknown. The patron probably commissioned the artwork for devotional use. It might be part of a narrative polyptych, conveying the biblical story of Christ, expressing the divinity of God and Christianity. In the foreground, the two main figures of the scene, the Virgin and the Archangel, are markedly painted larger than the figures in the background, and thus, they become the attractive focus of the whole painting. ... However, she holds her hands in front of her breast, eyes gazing at God s message brought by the Archangel, palms facing each other, indicating surprise and excitement due to the message. The Virgin s serene facial expression contradicts her behavior, perhaps because the message not only tells her the incarnation of Christ but also foreshadows his doomed death. Therefore, the whole painting can be a polyptych. This piece is the beginning of the story, and other pieces, such as Crucifixion, may be other parts of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On Oliver Twist Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens is about a young orphan boy who leaves his orphanage to go to London after years of mistreatment. Being an orphan since birth due to his mother s death and father s absence, for the first nine years of his life, Oliver lives on what is referred to as a baby farm. However, at the age of nine he was moved from this baby farm to a workhouse by a man named Mr. Bumble. This is shown on page seven when a woman name Mrs. Mann, who Oliver was under the care of for the first nine years of his life, introduces Mr. Bumble to Oliver. This triggers the event that will begin Oliver s journey. While working at the workhouse, the living conditions are poor and the boys who work there eat small portions of what is referred to as gruel. One day, some of the boys decide to draw lots, whoever losing having to ask for more gruel. Young Oliver Twist loses and the task to ask for more falls to him. • 8. A Clean, Well Lighted Place A clean, well lighted place may be needed more by some than others on dark, lonely nights. The clean, well lighted cafГ© in Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place represents a safe place in which one can escape their troubles and loneliness that lurk in night s darkness. In the story the characters of the older waiter and younger waiter differ substantially. They debate over the old man s being in the cafГ©, which is an over stayed visit to the younger waiter. The younger waiter longed for the old man to go home and eventually forced the old man to leave the cafГ©. The older waiter displayed sympathy for the drunken old man and claimed that he is one of those that likes to stay late at the cafГ©. The cafГ© represents more than just a place to drink; it is symbolic and holds a deeper significance. The old man had attempted suicide and the waiters discuss the possible reasoning behind it, claiming that he was in despair. We also know that the old man is looked after by his niece who cut him down from the rope that he hung himself with. It is easy to grow sympathy and empathy for the old man as the older waiter does. The younger waiter feels differently towards the old man, claiming that An old man is a nasty thing (p. 153). The younger waiter also told the old man that he should have killed himself last week (the old man is deaf). There is minimal narration in the story; the story consists mostly of dialogue. Their mandate is to entertain people with stories that are relatable, fun, wholesome, and heartwarming. And that s my mandate as well. What was the first film/show you got to do some writing? Please tell us about how that writing job came along and how you got that job. From 2006 2008, while I was working as a creative executive at Brightlight Pictures, I was fortunate to develop and work on really cool films and TV series such as the half hour comedy About A Girl for The N Network/Global. One project was a book that I loved called OLD SOULS, and is based on a true story. The author, Tom Shroder, was an editor at the Washington Post Magazine, and as a curious but skeptical man, convinced the acclaimed psychologist, Dr. Ian Stevenson, to allow him access on his journey through India and Lebanon, meeting various case studies of children who could remember and recount details about their past lives that would be completely impossible for them to know otherwise. Over the course of the journey and his book, Tom went from skeptic to believer. I found the material fascinating, and was so passionate about the book that I convinced Tom, via his agent, to allow Brightlight Pictures to option his book, and then I convinced Brightlight to let me write the adaptation. • 10. Continuing My Studies and Specializing in Transfer Pricing At the moment, my spirit to study becomes even more increasing after finishing my master in International and European Tax Law at Maastricht University, the Netherlands last year. Though I felt a little late to start pursuing my master in the age of 30, the study environment in the Netherlands has brought me in many changes of life and encourages to deeply develop the knowledge, in particular in the area of Transfer Pricing. This corresponds with my future objective to be an expert in Transfer Pricing. Nowadays, Transfer Pricing has been the most issue in International Taxationarea. The activity of Multinational Enterprises (MNEs) which represents a growing proportion of international trade may significantly lead to Transfer Pricing practice, in particular within intra group transaction where income can be shifted from high taxjurisdiction to low tax jurisdiction. Therefore, it is no doubt that such behavior may lead to tax base erosion. In addition, it is not relatively easy to identify transactions indicated Transfer Pricing though the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has published its guideline on how to identify Transfer Pricing abuse using the arm s length principle, the methods to apply, comparability analysis and so on. There are not so many Transfer Pricing experts in the world, in particular among Indonesia s tax authorities. Therefore, understanding a Transfer Pricing is mandatory for me as my present task is also dealing with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Chemical Digestion Research Paper The mouth does both mechanical digestion and chemical digestion. Mechanically, your incisors cut food into small pieces, next your canines make the food pieces even smaller, than premolars and molars crush and grind the food, finally saliva moistens the food to a slippery mass. Saliva contains enzymes which speed the chemical reaction in the body, this part is the chemical digestion. Your mouth is the first in your digestive system. Your esophagus connects your mouth to your stomach. It is made of smooth muscle that pushes your food to the stomach and is lined with mucus that makes food be easier to swallow and move along. Food stays in your esophagus for about 10 seconds and is located in your throat. The stomach is located in the abdomen and mechanically and chemically break down food. Mechanically, three strong layers of muscles contract and turn your food. Chemically, the lining in the stomach produces digestive juice that digests proteins with an enzyme called pepsin. It also produces hydrochloric acid that pepsin works best in and it kills bacteria in your food. Your stomach produces mucus that protects the stomach lining from the acid. • 12. Analysis Of Anthem, By Ayn Rand Is dystopian fiction, unremittingly bleak, leaving no room for hope, or is it a positive warning to persuade us to speculate about the world that mankind has created. On the surface, dystopian fiction is a bleak, depressing genre that offers a detailed and destructive presentation of the very worst of social alternative , but in actuality it is a means of speculation that reveals to the audience the real threats in society. It extrapolates contemporary socio political trends taken into extremes , which compels its audience to re examine the values of their society, resulting in an optimistic tale that gives the audience hope to escape their pessimistic future. Anthem by Ayn Rand (1937) is a detailed portrait of a collectivist society overstated for the purpose of satire and storytelling. As a politically conscious writer, Rand writes to communicate to her audience her political perception into the destructive psychology of collectivism. This exposes the audience to the risks of conformity, along with providing means to avoid this dystopian imagination crystallising into reality. Dystopias are a hyperbolic view of a familiar society s values, and assert that total control is harmful to the individual. Anthem is a grim future Rand envisioned after experiencing first hand the impacts of a brutal Stalinist rule . It was influenced by general socio political trend of increasing signs of collectivism and oligarchy developing into more recent politics during the early 20th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Why Is The Most Fearful Of A Strong Central Government Too... The Bill of Rights, written by Antifederalists, shows us how some Americans were fearful of a strong central government, how they wanted a limited government so it wasn t too powerful, and how they protected basic individual rights. The Anti federalists begged and argued for a new list that secured the rights they believed the original Constitution did not provide. There was a constant debate between whether or not to add the Bill of Rights, because some people thought that if they created it, all other rights were insignificant. Many Americans were fearful that the government was going to have too much power because of the Constitution, but they felt secure if they made a list of their official rights. Most of the people who wanted the Bill of Rights, were poor people, who felt they needed a say in the government. Americans were very apprehensive about what power the government would have and they didn t want the new United States to become like England, which had a strong central government. Amendment 1 talks about our original rights and the rights Congress cannot make laws against. It says, Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, and ... freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, (Amendment 1). This shows us that they were fearful of King George s violation of these essential rights. Since King George didn t follow these, they decided that it would be a good idea to make it an official law. • 14. Redcrosse In The First Canto Of Edmund Spenser s The... Though the desire for excitement and adventure lives in everyone, even if the definition for such things varies for each person, it is safe to say there are some who are more inclined to achieve their desires rather than watch them pass by. This inclination is a driving force that can, and often does, lead to disastrous or unnecessary outcomes. In watching Redcrosse in the first canto of Edmund Spensers, The Faerie Queene, it is seen that humankind can be selfish and inconsiderate of who or what it may affect. The ensuing battle that led to the gory death of Errour and her young, could have been prevented if only Redcrosse s decisions had not revolved around such a narrow minded outlook. A family was destroyed by a blatant lack of judgement and disregard for anything besides a selfish thirst for excitement that could have easily been obtained without the resulting destruction. There is no doubt Redcrosse deserved to have excitement and adventure in his life, but how he obtained this was out of arrogance and ignorance. He caused many lives to be destroyed all because he refused to believe there was any other way he could have achieved his desire. The Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico Principles Environmental Science Introduction Rig of the drilling Deep water Horizon operated under British petroleum failed in its operation sinking below the seawater of the Gulf of Mexico on the 20th of April 2010. More than 11 workers lost their lives. After this incident, tons and tons of oil gushed from the main opening of the well, buried 1600 meters below the sea level. Necessary steps have been taken to take control on the spill but still there is much to handle when it comes to the consistent danger being faced by the environment. The main culprit ingredient of the incident is the petroleum posing a number of disastrous effects to the environment. Types of Air and Water Pollutants Fresh oil present on the surface of the Gulf of Mexico being the primary pollutant evaporates in the air. This oil is broken down into tiny particles called the aerosols, which are designated to be the secondary pollutants. The aerosols that include certain classes of hydrocarbons are not easily broken down hence remaining in the air. Other than the aerosols, a significant amount of alkyl nitrates, hexane, methane, and butane compounds have been identified in the air which along with the aerosols are skin irritants and can cause dizziness (Landau, 2011, p. 67). Aerosols have been related to lung cancers. Surprisingly, the concentration of these compounds in the air is much higher when compared to the highly polluted environments of Los Angeles, Oklahoma and Mexico. The oil ... Analysis of Pauline Puyat’s TracksВ Essay Analysis of Pauline Puyat s TracksВ One of the most striking characteristics of Pauline Puyat is her devout Catholicism and her desire to be disconnected from the Ojibwa people. Throughout Tracks, she openly chooses Catholicism over her native religion and abandons her native ways almost completely. When Pauline tries to help Fleur prevent a miscarriage, she is literally held back by her conscious separation from the Ojibwa culture. There are many things that Pauline fails to do to effectively prevent Fleur from miscarrying. The most obvious is her failure to efficiently put together the herbal steep made of Alder: And I could not remember the plant s configuration, even though its use was common enough for bleeding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pauline s personification of the plants only continues this idea of confusion and abandonment. Her prayer to the Catholic God is almost ironic; Pauline is begging her God to help her remember the practices that she thinks sacrilegious. Pauline s Catholicism and her duties as an Angel of Death continue to control her for the rest of the passage. Before giving Fleur the Alder (or whatever herb she actually grabbed) steep, Pauline is captivated by her face: Fleur s eyes were closed. Her face was drained of color. I k new this look and I was fascinated, rapt, as at other death and sickbeds (157). Here, Pauline forgets what she is doing for Fleur and reverts to her duty as the Angel of Death, abandoning her Ojibwa ways for Catholicism. This seems to create further confusion for Pauline, as Fleur must instruct her on what to do with the alder plant. When Pauline puts herself to that task, she finds that she is unable to do anything because the Lord overtook [her] limbs and made them clumsy...it must have been his terrible will (157). Pauline feels that God does not want her to help Fleur, and is preventing her from doing so by deadening her limbs. Although she is trying to help Fleur, she simply cannot. Pauline s claims that clumsiness and forgetfulness of Ojibwa traditions is God s terrible will, are a claim of validity for both her follies in this passage and her stubborn separations from the Ojibwa. Hals painting show s well indulged and plump figures with fairly muted colors with some use of reds. It is a centrally planned composition with no landscape only an endless crowd of merry men. The painting is also quite dark overall with nice value and shading, as the setting is in a tavern during the evening with little natural light. Although with Hals technique of using dashing brushstrokes, the painting appears as if it could come to life with its realistic rendering of the tavern scene. This technique goes unnoticed until one closes in upon the painting to view his actually brush strokes which could possibly even be counted. Unlike Merrymakers at Shrovetide, Boucher s Interrupted Sleep illustrates two tall and thin figures of elegance upon a quiet countryside scene. The painting is lighter in value with natural sunlight and contains a number of more colors making it a more upbeat and pleasant picture. The rich and lavish vegetation spreads through the background with a small and rounded architectural form. The brush stroke is smoother and gives the painting a more natural and quiet appeal as it is overall more intimately themed. • 38. Review Of The Handmaid s Tale Comparing a book to the movie that is a product of that book is always a difficult thing, but with The Handmaid s Tale the novel and movie were quite similar. Set in the near future, in a totalitarian society post overthrowing of the United States government, The Handmaid s Tale explores the idea that people will endure oppression willingly as long as they receive some slight amount of power or freedom in return. This can be seen prominently in both the film and novel. However, although the overall idea was the same, the way that it was perceived through the movie is drastically different than through the text version. In the novel there is a eminent absence of real names, and Handmaids are instead referred to by nicknames that signify the Commanders they serve. They reveal little to nothing about the Handmaids, except for the absence of their personal identities. Equivalently, although the Aunts have individual, feminine alias, they aren t their birth names either. Significantly, it s noticed in the novel that we were never given the name of Offred, nor her child. This differs from the movie greatly where the characters interact with each other considerably more than depicted in the paperback most likely to make the film more entertaining to watch, but greatly taking away from a main component of Atwood s story. It comes from a sense of injustice, that there are wrongs in the world that need to be fixed (www.brainyquote.com). In George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, Orwell fuels his inspiration for the novel from his anger and dislike towards the misuse of governmental power, and the corruption that occurs when the government has too much power. The pigs in this novel represent a government s leaders and the effects of what happens when a government gains too much power and influence over its people. The pigs, especially their leader Napoleon, misuse their power and use it to take advantage of the animal with a lower intelligence level. Orwell satirizes Napoleon by giving him the characteristics of a ruthless dictator who uses education, violence, and rhetoric to control the other animals on the farm. The pigs use rhetoric to convince the animals to adopt Napoleon as their leader and remain loyal to him. The animals on the farm spend their lives being a slave to the farm. Napoleon, however, abuses the animals loyalty, and even though they spend every day of their lives trying to please him, they are never good enough for Napoleon.
