Going To College Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of going to college can be both challenging and rewarding. On one
hand, it's a broad subject with numerous aspects to consider, such as the decision-making
process, the application journey, the academic expectations, and the overall impact on one's life.
This complexity can make it difficult to decide which specific angle to focus on and which
experiences or insights to include.
Moreover, crafting a compelling essay requires not only personal reflection but also the ability to
convey one's thoughts coherently and persuasively. It's not just about narrating a sequence of
events but also about delving into the deeper significance of those experiences. The challenge lies
in finding a balance between showcasing individuality and addressing broader themes that
resonate with a wider audience.
Furthermore, the pressure to stand out among other college applicants adds an extra layer of
difficulty. Admission officers often read countless essays, so making yours unique and
memorable can be a daunting task. It demands creativity, self-awareness, and a genuine voice to
make an impression.
On the flip side, writing about one's journey to college can be an immensely rewarding process.
It allows for self-discovery, enabling the writer to articulate their goals, aspirations, and the
motivations behind pursuing higher education. It's an opportunity to reflect on personal growth,
challenges overcome, and lessons learned.
In conclusion, tackling the task of writing an essay on going to college involves navigating
through the complexities of personal narrative, self-expression, and the competitive landscape of
college admissions. It demands both introspection and effective communication skills to produce
an essay that not only stands out but also resonates with the reader. Similar essays and much
more can be explored through professional writing services like HelpWriting.net, offering

Interpersonal Communication Skills Test
I m always interested in learning more about me which would give me an opportunity

When I initially looked at the score of 86 I was pleased, but then noticed it only

my time in the military has broadened my insightfulness. Being in the military

While most of the categories I agreed with, one topic that I had to look at twice
was the Listening Skills score. My actual listening skills score was rated at a 50. I
ve always considered myself as a good listener, but according to this I m average and
could definitely stand room for improvement. As I pondered the thought I fully
understand why it s been determined that I have room for improvement. I ll take a
conversation with my wife, while on most occasions I listen to her and absorb
everything she has to say, there are instances in which I have known myself to cut
her off if I feel that the topic is heading in the wrong direction or if I feel her point
of view is completely of base. I need to understand that being a good listener is
listening at all times even if it is not something that a person would generally want
to hear at some point. I do need to learn to suppress mannerisms which she may feel
as distracting or giving the inclination that I m not paying attention to her. This is an
example that I ve used with the person I m closest with which leads me to believe

Annie John And Sugar Cane Alley Essay
In Annie John and Sugar Cane Alley, the three main forces that alienate Annie and
Jose are their individual perspectives on the world, their separate journeys away
from home, and the stories told to them by their elders. These three forces combine
to isolate Annie and Jose from their pasts. In the novel, Annie John retains a very
Eurocentric perspective on the world around her, while Jose Hassam from the
movie Sugar Cane Alley has a viewpoint centered around his experiences from his
life in Black Shack Alley. In the chapter Somewhere Belgium, Annie tells of her
daydreams of leaving Antigua, saying they now involved scenes of [her] living

When Annie leaves Antigua and is sailing on the ship towards England, she relates
the waves hitting the side of the ship to an unexpected sound, as if a vessel filled
with liquid had been placed on its side and was now slowly emptying out (Kincaid
148). This comparison shows how deeply her journey to England is affecting her
life, draining her of the troubles and burdens of Antigua and leaving her with
space for new memories to take hold and for her to shape her new persona in this
life. Similarly, Jose s new home in Fort de France has changed his life for the
better, as he receives a better education that will lead him to better opportunities
later. In their notebooks at school, their teacher asks them to write the statement
Learning is the key that opens the second door to our freedom (Sugar Cane Alley

will take to gain better opportunities in their lives, and is paved by a good
education, which Jose receives in Fort de France. Both Jose and Annie have opened
this metaphorical door of life that will lead them down the roads to happiness and
The Struggles of Cultural Assimilation of Nigerian Women...
Abstract
In this articled will attempt to explain the historical oppression of the Nigerian
woman in her home country and how each little Nigerian girl is brought up to submit
to the men in her life for her entire life span ,living in the background without a voice
but many duties. It will explain how this woman moves to America and finds new
freedoms and is presented with the option of assimilating into the new culture or

Too her surprise the man completed the task and even served his wife a drink
without a word. Many of the women told of relationship differences, the Nigerian
woman was use to living in a society where the men had all the power and the
women obeyed or they would get beat or cast out (Mberu, B., 2007). The Nigerian
woman is closely related to some of the other women interviewed in comparison to
the male and female relationship. The American stood alone when it came to this
comparison. The Nigerian woman is raised to give all her respect to men, even if
that man is her son. She is expected to speak in a humble tone, with her eyes
lowered and to give her total devotion to the men in her life, which to the American
women it appears to be a situation of servitude (Uyanga, R., E., 2009). The Nigerian
woman is taught things that she must do in order be a good wife and a good
daughter of Nigeria. These women are subject to cuttings and rituals that have been
deemed dangerous but is still performed in the country. It is taught by mothers to
daughters and continues although with greater education it has become less common
in the urban areas (Freymeyer, R., Johnson, B. 2007). These ideals of what makes the
women fit for marriage and acceptable in the Nigerian is a continuous factor in the
opinions and stereotyping of American toward them.
Cultural Retention The Nigerian woman is put in the position of fitting into the
culture at large and maintaining her own
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pyrite
Iron disulfide (FeS2) is the chemical formula for the mineral pyrite. This mineral
has long been described and prevalent in modern and ancient history. Pyrite s name
originates from the Greek for fire, which is pyr . The Roman author Pliny the
Elder described a stone which is thought to be pyrite. He described a stone used for
grindstone, which would readily fire sparks or sulfur. He also commented on the
heft, its resemblance to brass or copper, and its porosity. A Greek physician called
pyritean ore of copper, due to the brassy look, but also commented on the sparks the
mineralgave. Many of the early descriptions of pyrite included similar easily confused
minerals such as chalcopyrite, marcasite, and pyrrhotite. (Dana, 1982)
The yellow color and metallic luster of pyrite lead many people to misidentify the
mineral as gold. This confusion gives rise to pyrite s nickname of fool s gold ,
however, there are many physical differences between pyrite and gold. For instance,
they differ in crystal form, density, and hardness. Native gold forms in distinct
nuggets, is much denser and has a lower hardness than pyrite.
Pyrite is distinguished based on its metallic luster and pale brass yellow color,
which can tarnish darker. The streak is a greenish black to brownish black color.
On Moh s hardness scale, pyrite is a 6 6.5. The specific gravity is 5.02 and density
is 4.8 g/cm3. Pyrite s cleavage is indistinct and not usually observed, the mineral

The Bulow Plantation Short Story
Katelynn Bush and Isabella Mesete Dr. Duke AMH 2010 25 September 2017 The
Bulow Family In January of 1836 the Bulow Plantation, which was 4,675 acres,
was destroyed by Seminole Indians, but that s now where this story begins. This
story begins with a man who went by the name Major Charles Wilhelm Bulow, and
little did he know that everything he worked for would be destroyed in a mere 15
years. To begin our journey down history lane, we start with John Russell, a ship
builder. On July 28, 1812 John Russell in exchange for his ships, is granted by the
Spanish 4,675 acres of land. In 1814, tragedy struck, John Russell dies. While these
events were taking place, Baron Joachim Von Bulow, Charles Bulow s father would
purchase a townhouse in St. Augustine on April 6th, 1821. Baron Bulow was a
German immigrant who came to Charleston South Carolina, to establish the Lutheran
Church in America. After the death of John Russell, Mary Russell would eventually
sell the current day Bulow Plantation for $9,944.50 in August of 1812; she would sell
this land to Joachim Bulow. The development process of the Bulow Plantation, would
commence with a wealthy merchant from Charleston, South Carolina. Charles
Wilhelm Bulow at the prime age of 41 would obtain the land from his father; the
plantation would begin its development at this time. In August of 1821, to allow for
the initial part of development, Charles s brother would send slaves to help him
cultivate the plantation. His brother

/03/2013 Abstract Online courses have started within the past 30 years as a means of
learning. With increases in Internet use, many U.S. schools offer online classes.
Because of the main disparities amid online course and face to face instruction,
numerous questions have been brought forth in regard to the quality of online
courses. This research will help American college students to understand the
difference between online classes and face to face courses, and give them an idea

Advantages of online classes Convenience College students find themselves with
differing responsibilities past that of obtaining a degree. Employment and family
commitments make similar demands on their time. Having the alternative of taking
online classes, allows them to use online classes act as a convenient means for
learners that are unable to attend classes due to restrictions such as distance. If
students want to travel to another country and still need to achieve a degree, they
can take online classes and transfer back to their home colleges. Moreover, some
students come from regions where the colleges do not offer the courses they want, so
they will be required to take online classes. In the current job market, taking courses
online assists employees remain competitive, and are not mandated to take time off
from work to enrol in college (Summers, Waigandt Whittaker, 2005). Equally as
effective as traditional learning methods With the enhanced development at a fast
pace, the experience of online classes could also obscure the classroom experience.
With developing multimedia applications, an online class has better comprehension
of the class content. Technology has made it probable for all the tools involved in a
face to face class to be incorporated in the online classroom. For instance, through

Essay on Womens Roles in Society
Women s roles have changed so much within the last couple of centuries. In the
older years, women were the sole responsibility of taking care of the children,
doing housework, and pretty much taking care of their husbands. The Story of an
Hour, by Kate Chopin, A Doll s House, Henrik Ibsen, and The Yellow Wallpaper, by
Charlotte Gilman are all literature pieces talking about the roles women have in
society. In The story of an Hour, the main character is not happy in her marriage, and
she finds out that her husband got killed, and she felt very free. In A Doll s House,
the main character is not happy with her marriage, because she feels that she is
being treated like a childish, playful doll, and does not get any respect from her...

The conflict in the story is that Mrs. Mallard is way too happy about her husband
dying. After going into the room and closing the door, she started looking outside

Stereotypes In Movie Essay
Uneducated, lazy, submissive, irresponsible, fearful, violent, and animal like are
how black actors are stereotyped throughout countless years in Hollywood films.
As a result of this stereotyping, many people who have never encountered a black
person would believe the demeaning behavior that is shown in movies. To illustrate,
black women in most films routinely portrayed as sassy, neck rolling owls with
huge attitude problems. An academic journal stated that, A lot of shows with one
black person [that character] come off as violent or mean, especially black women.
They [are] normally loud and rowdy (Adams Bass et al.). Furthermore, there is no
shortage of black male actors playing con artists, drug dealers, pimps, and other types

world. This movie displayed a predominantly black cast in a positive light. According
to an article about the movie, The themes pay homage to African traditions and
African American culture, but are also universal enough to be understood and
accepted at face value by all people regardless of personal background. The film also
appeals to people of all ages by including some element of value for everyone

clear that a lot of money was invested in creating such a monumental film. Black
people were portrayed as highly intelligent beings that are strong, independent, and
part of a nation who cares and wants the best for everyone in the world regardless of
race. Finally, expanding audience diversity with black actors and actresses in better
acting roles can appeal to different countries, proven by numbers accumulated at
the worldwide box office. This involves black actors and actresses playing positive
roles. The movie Hidden Figures , a three time Oscar nominee made $66,349,611 to

City Of Manchester Plan 1945 Vs. Manchester s Core...
Planning has developed over decades, and with each development, new intentions
and visions for plans have arose. This essay will attempt to compare two plans for
the city of Manchester during 1945 and 2012. To achieve this, The City Of
Manchester Plan 1945 and Manchester s Core Strategy Development Plan will be
used.
The City Of Manchester Plan 1945 is a plan proposed post world war two, which
began to develop and take shape in 1941. During this time key problems of housing
standards, traffic issues as transport developed and air pollution emerged; therefore
this plan considers ways in which these issues could be mitigated or at least
minimised. Along with the key intentions to provide a better quality of life for the
citizens of Manchester,
Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance
In the 1950s, Leon Festinger had come up with this theory of Cognitive Dissonance
when a cult leader had persuaded his followers to believe that life on earth was
going to end, and that those who were believers would be rescued by aliens. When
this did not occur, they rationalized their beliefs by instead coming to the conclusion
that aliens, rather, had saved the entire world. Cognitive Dissonanceoccurs when we
hold a strong belief about something and then do something else that contradicts that
belief. Look at a person who smokes cigarettes, but knows that the nicotine and all
that goes inside one cigarette are bad. The tension they feel is dissonance, and to ease
that tension they can do one of three things: change their behavior, justify their
behavior by changing their conflicting thoughts, or justify their behavior by adding
on new thoughts. This paper will use research articles that were previously written, to
explain the relationship between dissonance and moral/non moral... Show more

Festinger wanted to test if the presence of a reward would influence the participant
into changing his private opinion closer to the opinion that was desired which
contradicts the participant s original beliefs. His findings saw that a large reward
produced less subsequent opinion change than did a smaller reward. The conclusion
of the study was that the findings were unequivocal, however in the three conditions:
the baseline (control), one dollar (small reward) and twenty dollar (large reward),
cognitive dissonance was lessened in the small condition but when it went beyond the
minimum reward needed to elicit it, the weaker the tendency was to change their
private opinion and perform the covert
Adolf Hitler Good And Evil Essay
Good and evil is an ever present feature of human history. Their presence is reflected
through the ages in tales of great heroism and extraordinary villainy. Such tales
provides insight into human nature, whether they involve two people or two
thousand. The essence of heroism and villainy are found in deeds rather than in
numbers. It is the deeds that pique our interest and lead us to wonder what prompts a
man or woman to perform such acts.
Adolf Hitler was a man that left you to wonder was there any good in him among all
that hatred he displayed towards others. He was a man that grew up in a strict home
and struggled to make it in society which eventually led him to take his life

The display of his behavior continues to grow due to the dark secrets he perceived
from his background. He dropped out of school at the age of sixteen because he
was unhappy. Hitler began to roam around for a couple years, and during those
years he started to develop his psyche personality traits. He enjoyed seeing people
with disabilities picked on and hurt at the expense of other people. Adolf was
drawn to death and fascinated by anything that depicted death. His personality
started growing stronger and stronger with hate. Hitler drifted for years working
odd jobs and eventually was homeless in which a German Jew helped him out. He
moved from place to place and landed in Munich were at the outbreak of World War I
led him to join the German army. With the loss of the war in 1914, Hitler felt
humiliated, angry and betrayed. He used his anger and frustration to begin his
political activities in 1920. Hitler was able to manipulate his audience by playing
on their bruise egos and fears from the loss of the war. Once Hitler gain power, he
would speak at rallies that started out in a small number of followers that soon led

Comparison between The handmaids Tale and 1894 ...
Both the novels 1984 and The Handmaids Tale provide warnings of how each
author sees certain problems in society leading to dystopian states. Dystopian
genres exist in both novels, but arise for different reasons. Resulting from Atwood s
concerns about political groups and aspects of feminism; The Handmaids Tale
illustrates how declining birth rates could lead to a state where women are forced
into bearing children. In contrast, 1984 depicts a terror state where poverty is rife
and tyrannical leaders force citizens to live by their rules. Although both novels share
such themes as surveillance, deprivation and loss of identity, they describe two very
different dystopian worlds, often by using identical literary techniques but also...

There is no destruction of antonyms, comparatives or superlatives in The Handmaid s
Tale , as Gilead powers are not eradicating aspects of language, merely preventing
people from speaking them, by enforced use of religious discourse. Atwood does,
however, use prefixes to describe certain things, indicating state control. Words such
as unwomen and unbaby denote failure. If a handmaid s child is branded, unbaby , it
shows failure to produce healthy offspring. Handmaids wish to produce healthy
children, preventing transportation to the colonies. These prefixes therefore scare
them into conforming, and trying to produce children as the authorities wish.
In both 1984 and The Handmaid s Tale , connotations are used to re define the states
powers. Big Brother and Aunts suggest protective figures which protect society;
however connotations have been re defined, neither figure having the security of the
people in mind. These names, however, result in people believing themselves safe
under their rulers, having been manipulated in many ways to produce this
misconception.
We are able to see that language in both the texts maintain the dystopian societies.
However as well as authoritarian manipulation of language, the dystopian genre is
created through the authors styles of writing.

Characters And Nihilism In The Novel s Fathers And Sons
In the novel, Fathers and Sons , the character Bazarov is known to be a self
confident, and intelligent doctor who s known to leave a few great impressions
behind when interacting with his fellow characters large and small, like Fenichka
and the lower classman people. However, as nice as he may seem, I do not believe
that the story intends Bazarov to be the protagonist, but rather the antagonist. His
beliefof nihilism, the rejection of all religious and moral principles, is one of the
reasons why he is shown as an antagonist. Following that, is how he rudely carries
out his own opinions to others, but then later on, turns out to be a hypocritic of his
own teachings ; making him very displeasing to the audience to read. So although
some may argue that Bazarov is a hero, because of lighter traits, I would have to
disagree because of his belief of nihilism, how he carries it out to people and later
turning himself into a hypocritic, making the novel play against Bazarov rather than
for him.
In the beginning of the story, Bazarov was known as a great friend to Arkady, and
for a short lived time, he was not wrong. Bazarov was written with attractive
figures for an antagonist, physically and non physical. Typically, an antagonist is
seen as evil and ugly from the inside to out, but Bazarov was the exact opposite. A

Creating a High Speed Rail Line in Wisconsin Essay
The people of Wisconsin who commute from Madison to Milwaukee and vice versa
would find a High speed rail line useful for many reasons. Granted most people that
commute from Madison to Milwaukee of vice versa aren t doing it every day.
They are generally just doing it once in a while. The technology of high speed rails
is relatively simple; it consists of magnetic tracks repelling the train with a polar
opposite magnet on the bottom. This creates a surface with little friction; therefore
the train can go faster. A lot of factors come into play when the state thinks of
funding this. Governor Walker rejected the funds and cancelled the project in 2010,
but there are people that sill have hope. The cost of operation is in the millions per...

The states of Ohio and Wisconsin were given about $1.2 billion, but they both
passed the grants up. The funds were reallocated to other states ( Wisconsin and
Ohio ). For many the hope for high speed rail in the near future in Wisconsin has
diminished because of Governor Walker rejected the funds, but Minnesota never
stopped planning. Governor walker would have liked to spend the money on other
things such as highway systems for the state and other infrastructure. After
Wisconsin governor Scott Walker cancelled the funds for the high speed rail
program, Minnesota continued planning. They currently are still planning a line
from Milwaukee to Minneapolis that would run about 110 mph. Consequentially, it
doesn t run through Madison. The route is called the Empire Builder and the state
of Minnesota plans to upgrade the line (Ryan). This line wouldn t help commuters
between Madison and Milwaukee, but it would make an easy trip from Milwaukee
to the Twin Cities. The state of Wisconsin plans to pay around $57,000 of the
planning for the line. That is about half, and the plan should be drawn up by the
summer of 2014 (Ryan). High speed rail will modernize Wisconsin and America if
implemented. If American wants to stay a modernized country and stay ahead of the
others they would need to stay ahead of the technology that is not the case with high
The A s In Moneyball
Some of the most memorable moments in history come when against great odds a
small force is able to overcome problems that seem impossible. From David and
Goliath to the American Revolution the use of novel strategy has allowed small
powers to find the weakness of their enemies and expose it for great success. This
can be applied in the modern world when looking at the use of proper data
managementand or statistical analysis by a small entity. With proper understanding
of the marketplace, the small entity will be better suited for the market and will be
able compete with larger entities that it would otherwise be unable to compete with.

comes from the chronic disease sector and has effects that do not wane with time.
Drugs that treat infectious disease are not able to stay the same due to the bacteria

they become ineffective. A small pharmaceutical company known as Novobiotics

thing that changed was the color was changed but went back to normal, thus
indicating that the composition has not changed.

The Pros And Cons Of Black Friday Keeps You In The
Christmas
So you know the best way to stay debt free during Christmas is to shop throughout
the year. But how do you stay debt free if you haven t been able to do that? Is all
lost? No, but pulling off a debt free Christmas in this situation requires a bit of
craftiness literally and figuratively. However, if you re willing to be both creative
and savvy, you can still get gifts for your friends and loved ones without going into
debt.
Black Friday Keeps You in the Black
According to financial guru, Dave Ramsey, Black Friday counts among the best days

Part time holiday jobs count as one of the best ways to manage debt that there is.
For one thing, your holiday season job gives you the cash you need to pay for your
Christmas gifts. However, it has an added benefit. If you work two jobs one for 40
hours a week and one for 20 to 30 hours a week during the holiday season, you ll
have less time to spend money frivolously. And if you plan on shopping during
online sales days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, you can save money and
your aching feet at the same time.
Cut Expenses Elsewhere
We ve already talked about couponing, but how about just cutting expenses in
general and funneling the savings into your Christmas budget. How can you do
that? A number of ways exist. Think about simple three or four ingredient meals that
you plan ahead. One pot meals are great for this. Swap babysitting duties with a

A Confederacy of Dunces Essay
Oh, Fortuna, blind, heedless goddess, I am strapped to your wheel. Do not crush
me beneath your spokes. Raise me on high, divinity (Toole: 42). Here, Ignatius
Reilly makes one of his many pleas to Fortuna, the goddess which he believes
controls his destiny and his life by spinning him in circles of good and bad luck. The
cycles IgnatiusReillygoes through in John Kennedy Toole s A Confederacy of
Dunces play an important role in the story, as they affect not only him, but several
others in the book as well. The cycles that Ignatius is put through do, indeed,
influence those around him. These cycles that Ignatius goes through are very much

A Brief Note On Down The Drain It Goes
Down the Drain it Goes We have come to the conclusion that there is no more fresh
water on the earth and that there is no potable water, says a news reporter. The
earth could eventually end up like this. How much of the earth contains
freshwater? Will the earth ever run out of water? If so, how long from now will we
run out of water? What effects could this cause? All of these questions are ones that
interest me greatly and that I would like to know the answers to. After taking an
environmental science class in high school, I already had some prior knowledge on
some areas of this topic. This knowledge includes learning about how much water
there is on the earth. The part of the earth that is water is known as the hydrosphere

Likewise, I often hear about the topics of water scarcity on the news and in articles
and they bring up countries having water issues, so it encouraged me to find out
more about the topic and to hopefully get my questions answered. While having
many tools available for me to find secondary research for my topic, the easiest and
closest source was my school s library database. On my school s library website,
there is a search generator for looking up articles, books, journals, and anything
you can read. This database was very helpful when it came to looking for
secondary resources. All I needed to do was type in a few key words, and then
read through the options that were given to me based on what I was looking for.
After researching and looking through the data, I found some great articles about
my topic on the fresh water on earth. However, I did have to search a few different
key words and questions to find exactly what I was looking for. I explored things
such as water scarcity, fresh water on earth, will the earth run out of water?, and
how long from now will the earth run out of water?. All of these searches led to
many different articles which then became my secondary sources which I could use
to help answer my questions. I had to read through more than three articles, even
though I needed at least three articles, to decide which ones seemed the most reliable
and well written. My first
The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism Essay
Commonly overlooked in its significance, the garden in The Yellow Wallpaper
successfully represents all elements of the main character s rebellious intentions.
Generally, a garden features well trimmed vegetation, which is guarded by a fence or
wall to keep away outside forces, whether it be humans or animals with intentions to
harm the plants. In contrast, nature operates in a free flowing manner, with its
greenery tangled in abundance and lacking any type of structure. On the surface, it
may seem that the gardens kempt appearance is a blessing to the plants within, as
they are saved from the uncertainties of natural life by being incubated in a specific
space. The main character of The Yellow Wallpaper originally follows this notion

The word choice the main character employs to describe the plants is particularly
notable, as it implies a disobedient appearance in a garden that expects conformity
in its essence. This oddly described foliage becomes the inanimate representation of
the main character herself, who is also trying to rebel against a world passionate in
its attempts to suppress and demean. The plants become riotous and gnarly to
actively resist attempts to be subordinated by the garden, and the main character s
observation of this conveys her desire to revolt, even though she cannot express her
displeasure in a communicable language. The main character s envy of the plants
makes this symbol even more powerful, as the greenery represents where she seeks
to be: in a position where she can fight her oppressors by being openly
nonconformist. Unfortunately for the main character, her rebellious behavior haves
to be tucked away in the subconscious and in her own thoughts, as she is unable to
voice legitimate concerns in a patriarchal
Critical Analysis Of The Mayor Of Casterbridge
In The Mayor of Casterbridge, the wife to a young man learns to cope with her
husband s drunken ways. The author portrays that he, Michael Henchard decides
to auction his wife off to anybody who wants to buy her but not only her their
daughter as well all because he would rather be a free man and states that he would
be worth a thousand pound (pg.9) before he made the mistake to marry at such a
young age as 18. After selling his wife, Henchard wonders if the night before had
all been a dream but unfortunately it was more like a nightmare because there was
money in his pocket from where the sailor had bought his wife Susan and daughter
Elizabeth Jane. His only thoughts at this point was to get out of situation he had
put himself in as soon as as he could. After walking miles and miles his only feeling
is to turn to God, so he makes a stop at a church near by when he arrives in a
village. He begins to fall to his knees at the altar with both of his hands on the bible
and afterwards makes his way to Casterbridge. He takes the blame for it as if he
has no other choice to because it was all his fault as to why his wife and child was
sold to a man that he didn t even know. By him taking full responsibility for his
actions and the mistake that he s made he now sets out and tries to correct what he
has done. Henchard basically decides that him continuing the search for his wife and
daughter is somewhat useless at this point because he still havent found them so he

blood and bone, simple grunts, soldiering with their legs, toiling up the hills and

one step and then the next and then another (86). The story focuses on the emotions
of the soldiers and describes how they endured extreme emotional torture during

Essay On Houston Environmental Issues
The City of Houston is a beautiful city that is known for its bayous, multiculturalism
and its importance to the US space program. It has also been known for its poor air
quality with the city ranking in the top 10 worst cities for air population in the United
States, which is primarily due to the most important industries to Houstoneconomy
the Houston Ship Channel and the oil and gas industries.
Over the past couple of years a new environmental issue has taken place illegal
dumping, which is astoundingly different than the environmental issues that the City
of Houston has been commonly known for, although it has devastating effect. In, fact
what is rather unusual for this issue unlike the issues of air pollution the oil and gas
industry has little to no involvement with creating the issue. While the city of

Human Nature Of Humanity
Jane Addams once said, The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain
until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life. The same can be
said for humanity. Evidence from history supports the concept that inhumane actions
are contagious, and for this reason compassion and humanity can not be practiced in
parts. Practicing humanity and compassion selectively or in parts creates an
inhumane world. Humans must learn to be kind and take care of each other before
much else beneficial can be accomplished. Universal humanity insures that all human
beings do not have to worry about becoming victim to inhumane actions and violence.
Imagine, women, children, and men victims of inhumanity and violence. In order for
humanity and compassion to be of any true importance, humanity and compassion
must be universal. History tells many stories of greed, entitlement, and moral failure.
In addition, history also paints the picture of some horrific effects of selective
humanity. One example from history that paints this picture is the VietnamWar. At the
time of the Vietnam War, the United States
was humane, and aside from civil
displays of disapproval for the war, the people were at peace. There was no war on
our home land, and there were no invasions orand overthrows of our government.
These actions were overseas, but the inhumane and violent reality of Vietnam
became reality for even the most compassionate Americans. The draft was the
solution to the desperate war efforts during Vietnam, and was what sealed the fate
of thousands of Americans. Draftees accounted for roughly 30.4% (17,725) of
combat deaths in Vietnam (World History Project, USA). These individuals were
every day men. Butchers, bakers, and even candle stick makers, not soldiers. They
did not join on their own free will because war was a foreign affair that did not
interest many draftees. Their number was called, luck of the draw, and just like that
these butchers, bakers, and even candle stick makers, were off to fight a bloody
battle in a foreign country that was full of hate, and violence. The war not only took
good hearted men and put them in a position to hurt and kill others, the war also
disrupted the civil peace
Assess The Validity Of Wikipedia
The number one major criticism of Wikipedia is that it is not a creditable source of
information. Wikipedia allows for laypersons, in addition to their staff editors, to
contribute to the information within the websites database. While the contributors
may very well be reliable their identity is often unknown; leaving the researcher
unable to verify their contribution and sort out any personal bias from the writer.
Wikipedias own websitestates that its not creditable because anyone can edit the
information given at any time, and although most errors are immediately fixed, some
errors maintain unnoticed. (Wikipedia: DGG, 2007)

There is some thought that it is impossible for biasness not to be introduced into
research. From the selection of the research topic to the choice in sources, an author
s own personal points of view tend to get in the way. While an author may interject
personal bias into their work, it does not automatically mean that the validity of their
research is jeopardized. The author must prove through the use of reliable sources
that there is sufficient evidence that their point of view is supported by fact. It is the
absence of these supporting facts that draws Wikipedia into the realm of unreliability.
When comparing Wikipedia to Sociological research, in the terms of objectivity, one

The Transcontinental Railroad In The 19th Century
The Transcontinental railroad could be interpreted as the most memorable change in
America in the 19th century. The railroad played an important role in the westward
expansion and on the progression and development for the American economy.
When America had acquired the West, the need for adequate transportation rose
considerably. Suggestions dispersed about a railroad that would scope across the
continent from East to West. Republican congresses ruled for the federal funding of
railroad construction, however, all actions were on a standstill for a few years
because of the Civil War. In the wake of the American Civil War
of 1861 1865, the
rush to put together the transcontinental railroad went underway in 1866. President
Abraham Lincolnpermitted the Pacific Railway Act of 1862, allowing two railroad
companies the right to construct the first ever American transcontinental railroad.

T Rex Summary
The reading passage states that paleontologists intentionally split a fossilized bone of
a 70 million year old dinosaur, called T Rex, and discovered several substances that
might be the original tissue of the dinosaur, such as blood vessels, red blood cells, and
collagen. However, the lecturer casts doubt on it and provides conclusive evidence to
support his statement. First of all, the author of the reading posits that the scientists
detected numerous channels inside the bones and some spongy stuff in those
channels, which might be the remnants of the authentic blood vessels. The lecturer,
on the other hand, asserts that the soft materials cannot be the residues of the real
blood vessels and they might have left from other things, including

The Free Online dictionary s definition of caring is: To provide needed assistance or
watchful supervision. Jean Watson defined caring as a nurturing response to a patient
with whom the nurse feels a personal sense of commitment and responsibility
(Nursing Theory and Theorist, 2008).
Jean Watson began developing her theory in 1979. She published her first book in
1979, her second in 1985. Her intention was to develop and define caring as a
science. She wanted to separate the nursing process from the practice of medicine.

Genre Analysis Essay
Genre Analysis
The musical film has always held a special place for me. From my time as a drama
student in high school, my eyes have been opened to the amazing world of the
musical and especially the musical film. The musical film is a film genre in which
the characters sing songs that are integrated into the overall story. Since musicals first
began in theaters, musical films usually contain similar elements. These elements
often simulate that there is a live audience watching. In a sense, the film viewers
become the audience members, at a theater production, as the actor performs directly
to them. Due to the popularity of musicals in the theater, the style was quickly
brought over into film. In 1927, the musical film genre began ... Show more content

The film was nominated for a number of awards, including a GLAAD Media Award
for Best Picture Musical/Comedy. They may seem quite different on the surface;
however, the similarities they do have in common are mainly due to the genre they
share. This is shown by the use of music, production design, and film techniques.
The use of music is a key to determining if a film is in the musical genre. Not only
are songs used to further the story along in a musical, but they also have the ability
to put the audience in the emotional state of the character singing. Song has always
been used as a good conductor for emotional understanding. For example, during
the song You Were Meant for Me in Singin in the Rain, Don Lockwood is able to
confess his love to Kathy Selden in a way that feels magical and shows a
connection between the two would be lovers. Also, the song There Are Worse
Things I Could Do in Grease is able to betray the emotional depth of the character
Rizzo s fear, shame, and anger. At the time this film came out, topics such as teen
pregnancy were not generally presented in films. By having this character sing her
issue, the audiences, who may have dismissed her outright for her actions, are able
to sympathize with her plight. Moreover, in Rent, the song I ll Cover You by Angel
and Collins allow the viewer to get caught up in this young couple s relationship
without having to worry or even consider that this is a gay couple.

The Scythians lived peacefully until the third century BCE. During that time, they
were overcome by another nomadic tribe, the Sarmatians. Less than twenty five years
after the Sarmatians conquered the Scythians, the Goths superseded the Sarmatians.
The Goths were groups of uncivilized people who strengthened their kingdoms by
keeping them in a state of terror. They were of Germanic descent, and reached the
pinnacle of their strength during the early fourth century. Following the Goths were
the Huns and the Avars. Meanwhile, the Slavs in the fifth century CE emerged and
moved southward to come in contact with the East Roman Empire. The Slavs were
split into three groups, called the Antae, Sclaveni, and the Venedi. Most historical
references do not pay much attention to the Antic tribes, probably because of their
disappearance in the late sixth century. The Sclaveni and Venedi joined and created
a unified East Slavic empire. This Slavic kingdom slowly began to increase during
the late 700s. The area that was held by the Avars in the 790s was demolished
through Charlemagne s destruction of their empire. With that, the Slavic people
began to migrate down to what is now Kiev. At Kiev, they encountered additional
tribes such as the Finno Ugrians, Bulgars, and Khazars. The Finno Ugrians could be
broken down into smaller less civilized tribes, though their counterparts, the Bulgars
and the Khazars, were much more refined.

job or go to camp over the summer for 6 weeks again. I really didn t want to go to the
camp my only option was to tail off and get a job at the young age of 15. I started off
by applying to hannafords because i heard they were hiring, after waiting 2 weeks
and no response other than a thank you for applying i heard nothing back. It was
starting to look grim and no other choice but to go away from home and go to camp
but there was one last shot i could apply for a little park in my town and do
maintenance. So I went to town hall grabbed an application filled it out and with the
help of good references i got the job. I was so happy and ready to work before i
could i had to fill out... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all of that i as ready to start off the first clean up day was a few weeks after
school since my mom had work and my parents were divorced i just rode my bike
there everyday, so once i got there i found the guy in charge introduced myself and
then i saw other people i knew and it wasn t so bad. I started off by cleaning the
bathrooms and organizing areas and getting it ready for the day the park opens. I
started about a week after the park opened my job was to sit in shack and sell candy,
soda, water, and ice cream. We weren t allowed to sell hot food because of health
issues so that saved us from a lot of heat and more work. On my first day i realized it
was one of the most boring job ever you sit inside a shack and in the beginning of
the day is the rush where people pay to get in then after that s done you sit there
and occasionally get up to give kids food. On my second day i realized hough
stressful it could be, my director needed help at another camp across town and
took 2 people out to help him so i was left alone in shack not really knowing what i
was doing. Weekends were very different because you had a surplus of people
coming to the park and just an enormous flow of
Taking a Look at Evolutionary Psychology
Evolutionary Psychology is a practice of social and natural sciences that studies
human characteristics through the lens of modern evolutionary theory. This is
exactly what Dunbar and his colleges attempt to do with the family in their book. The
discussion of the family has to start with defining what parentinvolvement actually is.
The authors of the book Evolutionary Psychology use Robert Trivers definition from
1972 that states, any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that
increases the offspring s chance of surviving at the cost of parent s ability to invest
in other offspring . This means that if a parent of a individual uses any of their
resources to help improve their child s chance of survival, meaning... Show more

The second circumstance for infanticide is if the child is born with severe
disabilities or deformities for the simple reason of is the child worth the
investment. Is involved in a child s life who is going to require more of an
investment that an average child, and still highly unlikely to reproduce worth it?
Twins are a similar circumstance. Parents have the dilemma of possibly of not
having adequate resources for both children at the same time. So infanticide could
be logical in this situation so the parents could invest heavily into one of the twins
to help ensure the best opportunity for the child throughout life as opposed to
dividing the resources in half. This leads into the last circumstance, which is just not
having the adequate amount of resources to raise even a single child. This practice
is exemplified to the rate of aborted children or children sent to orphanages in young
single women, or old married women who have had several children prior. Also
discussed is how unique the human family is. Human fathers are involved in their
children s lives more than any other species and humans are the only species where
grandparents exist. The explanation for these occurrences are that the human infant is
so dependant that it needs the support of more than just a mother, and even just the
mother and father in some cases. The occurrence of grandparents can also be
explained by the phenomenon of menopause. The human
Brainwashing Research Paper
In a world surrounded by billboards, commercials and magazine advertisements, the
grasp that the media holds and how it influences society has become an accustomed
and accepted part of our daily lives. Whether these influences are present it is the
evening news, reading a magazine with your coffee in the morning, or simply seeing
yet another catchy advertisement for another catchy product, the target in all
situations is the same Appeal to society in whatever way suits a company best. This
has resulted in the so called new and improved North America, with its sexy
provocative models and young bubbling girls just waiting to help the corporate
world sell just a little more. But where do we draw the line between selling and
brainwashing? Advertising
Essay On Canadian Flag
National Symbols Assignment 7
The Canadian Flag The Canadian Flag features a red field with a large white
square in the middle. Within that white square is an 11 pointed red maple leaf.
The red on the Canadian flag represents those who sacrificed their lives during our
two world wars. The white on our flag represents the tranquility and peace that
Canadians exemplify in the lives we live each day. Also, in 1921, King George V
declared red and white as the official national colours of Canada. Our red maple leaf
is the only symbol on our flag. This maple leaf was apart of George Stanley s concept
of our modern flag as it was very similar to the flag of the Royal Military College of
Canada. It represents unity, tolerance, and peace and is a recognized symbol of
Canada. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This flag has been the flag of Austria since the end of World War 2. This flag has no
symbols. The flags colours are taken from the Austrian legend in which the Duke
Leopold V of Austria was blood soaked after a battle that took place 1191. The
stripe of white is a symbol of his sword belt after he took it off, the only area that
was not immersed in blood. This flag was chosen as the Emperor Henry VI allowed
Leopold the chance to make this his banner and was eventually adopted as the flag of
Austria.
Similarities and Differences across the Flags The Canadian Flag and the flag of
the Holy See both feature a national symbol. The meaning behind the flag of
Austria and the meaning behind the flag of the Holy See are events that took place
a very long time ago. Austria and Canada s flags both share a similar colour scheme,
however, the colour representations mean two very different things. Austria s means
the idea of war and battle and Canada s meaning remembering war and battle as well
as peace and tranquility. All three flags bear a linear pattern, however, Austria s flag
is the only one with horizontal

Going To College Essay

  • 1. Going To College Essay Writing an essay on the topic of going to college can be both challenging and rewarding. On one hand, it's a broad subject with numerous aspects to consider, such as the decision-making process, the application journey, the academic expectations, and the overall impact on one's life. This complexity can make it difficult to decide which specific angle to focus on and which experiences or insights to include. Moreover, crafting a compelling essay requires not only personal reflection but also the ability to convey one's thoughts coherently and persuasively. It's not just about narrating a sequence of events but also about delving into the deeper significance of those experiences. The challenge lies in finding a balance between showcasing individuality and addressing broader themes that resonate with a wider audience. Furthermore, the pressure to stand out among other college applicants adds an extra layer of difficulty. Admission officers often read countless essays, so making yours unique and memorable can be a daunting task. It demands creativity, self-awareness, and a genuine voice to make an impression. On the flip side, writing about one's journey to college can be an immensely rewarding process. It allows for self-discovery, enabling the writer to articulate their goals, aspirations, and the motivations behind pursuing higher education. It's an opportunity to reflect on personal growth, challenges overcome, and lessons learned. In conclusion, tackling the task of writing an essay on going to college involves navigating through the complexities of personal narrative, self-expression, and the competitive landscape of college admissions. It demands both introspection and effective communication skills to produce an essay that not only stands out but also resonates with the reader. Similar essays and much more can be explored through professional writing services like HelpWriting.net, offering assistance in expressing your unique journey and aspirations. As I pondered the thought I fully understand why it s been determined that I have room for improvement. I ll take a conversation with my wife, while on most occasions I listen to her and absorb everything she has to say, there are instances in which I have known myself to cut her off if I feel that the topic is heading in the wrong direction or if I feel her point of view is completely of base. I need to understand that being a good listener is listening at all times even if it is not something that a person would generally want to hear at some point. I do need to learn to suppress mannerisms which she may feel as distracting or giving the inclination that I m not paying attention to her. This is an example that I ve used with the person I m closest with which leads me to believe that I probably do this on more occasions

Annie John And Sugar Cane Alley Essay In Annie John and Sugar Cane Alley, the three main forces that alienate Annie and Jose are their individual perspectives on the world, their separate journeys away from home, and the stories told to them by their elders. These three forces combine to isolate Annie and Jose from their pasts. In the novel, Annie John retains a very Eurocentric perspective on the world around her, while Jose Hassam from the movie Sugar Cane Alley has a viewpoint centered around his experiences from his life in Black Shack Alley. In the chapter Somewhere Belgium, Annie tells of her daydreams of leaving Antigua, saying they now involved scenes of [her] living alone in Belgium, a place [she] had picked when [she] read one of [her] favorite books that Charlotte... When Annie leaves Antigua and is sailing on the ship towards England, she relates the waves hitting the side of the ship to an unexpected sound, as if a vessel filled with liquid had been placed on its side and was now slowly emptying out (Kincaid 148). This comparison shows how deeply her journey to England is affecting her life, draining her of the troubles and burdens of Antigua and leaving her with space for new memories to take hold and for her to shape her new persona in this life. Similarly, Jose s new home in Fort de France has changed his life for the better, as he receives a better education that will lead him to better opportunities later. In their notebooks at school, their teacher asks them to write the statement Learning is the key that opens the second door to our freedom (Sugar Cane Alley film). The metaphorical door in this sentence represents the paths that the students will take to gain better opportunities in their lives, and is paved by a good education, which Jose receives in Fort de France. Both Jose and Annie have opened this metaphorical door of life that will lead them down the roads to happiness and

Pyrite s name originates from the Greek for fire, which is pyr . The Roman author Pliny the Elder described a stone which is thought to be pyrite. He described a stone used for grindstone, which would readily fire sparks or sulfur. He also commented on the heft, its resemblance to brass or copper, and its porosity. Many of the early descriptions of pyrite included similar easily confused minerals such as chalcopyrite, marcasite, and pyrrhotite. (Dana, 1982) The yellow color and metallic luster of pyrite lead many people to misidentify the mineral as gold. This confusion gives rise to pyrite s nickname of fool s gold , however, there are many physical differences between pyrite and gold. For instance, they differ in crystal form, density, and hardness. Festinger s Theory Of Cognitive Dissonance In the 1950s, Leon Festinger had come up with this theory of Cognitive Dissonance when a cult leader had persuaded his followers to believe that life on earth was going to end, and that those who were believers would be rescued by aliens. When this did not occur, they rationalized their beliefs by instead coming to the conclusion that aliens, rather, had saved the entire world. Cognitive Dissonanceoccurs when we hold a strong belief about something and then do something else that contradicts that belief. Look at a person who smokes cigarettes, but knows that the nicotine and all that goes inside one cigarette are bad. The tension they feel is dissonance, and to ease that tension they can do one of three things: change their behavior, justify their behavior by changing their conflicting thoughts, or justify their behavior by adding on new thoughts. However, as nice as he may seem, I do not believe that the story intends Bazarov to be the protagonist, but rather the antagonist. His beliefof nihilism, the rejection of all religious and moral principles, is one of the reasons why he is shown as an antagonist. Following that, is how he rudely carries out his own opinions to others, but then later on, turns out to be a hypocritic of his own teachings ; making him very displeasing to the audience to read. So although some may argue that Bazarov is a hero, because of lighter traits, I would have to disagree because of his belief of nihilism, how he carries it out to people and later turning himself into a hypocritic, making the novel play against Bazarov rather than for him. In the beginning of the story, Bazarov was known as a great friend to Arkady, and for a short lived time, he was not wrong. The earth could eventually end up like this. How much of the earth contains freshwater? Will the earth ever run out of water? If so, how long from now will we run out of water? What effects could this cause? All of these questions are ones that interest me greatly and that I would like to know the answers to. After taking an environmental science class in high school, I already had some prior knowledge on some areas of this topic. This knowledge includes learning about how much water there is on the earth. The part of the earth that is water is known as the hydrosphere and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, I often hear about the topics of water scarcity on the news and in articles and they bring up countries having water issues, so it encouraged me to find out more about the topic and to hopefully get my questions answered. While having many tools available for me to find secondary research for my topic, the easiest and closest source was my school s library database. On my school s library website, there is a search generator for looking up articles, books, journals, and anything you can read. This database was very helpful when it came to looking for secondary resources. All I needed to do was type in a few key words, and then read through the options that were given to me based on what I was looking for. After researching and looking through the data, I found some great articles about my topic on the fresh water on earth. However, I did have to search a few different key words and questions to find exactly what I was looking for. I explored things such as water scarcity, fresh water on earth, will the earth run out of water?, and how long from now will the earth run out of water?. All of these searches led to many different articles which then became my secondary sources which I could use to help answer my questions. I had to read through more than three articles, even though I needed at least three articles, to decide which ones seemed the most reliable and well written. My first
  • 23. The Yellow Wallpaper Symbolism Essay Commonly overlooked in its significance, the garden in The Yellow Wallpaper successfully represents all elements of the main character s rebellious intentions. Generally, a garden features well trimmed vegetation, which is guarded by a fence or wall to keep away outside forces, whether it be humans or animals with intentions to harm the plants. In contrast, nature operates in a free flowing manner, with its greenery tangled in abundance and lacking any type of structure. On the surface, it may seem that the gardens kempt appearance is a blessing to the plants within, as they are saved from the uncertainties of natural life by being incubated in a specific space. The main character of The Yellow Wallpaper originally follows this notion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The word choice the main character employs to describe the plants is particularly notable, as it implies a disobedient appearance in a garden that expects conformity in its essence. This oddly described foliage becomes the inanimate representation of the main character herself, who is also trying to rebel against a world passionate in its attempts to suppress and demean. The plants become riotous and gnarly to actively resist attempts to be subordinated by the garden, and the main character s observation of this conveys her desire to revolt, even though she cannot express her displeasure in a communicable language. The main character s envy of the plants makes this symbol even more powerful, as the greenery represents where she seeks to be: in a position where she can fight her oppressors by being openly nonconformist. Unfortunately for the main character, her rebellious behavior haves to be tucked away in the subconscious and in her own thoughts, as she is unable to voice legitimate concerns in a patriarchal

After selling his wife, Henchard wonders if the night before had all been a dream but unfortunately it was more like a nightmare because there was money in his pocket from where the sailor had bought his wife Susan and daughter Elizabeth Jane. His only thoughts at this point was to get out of situation he had put himself in as soon as as he could. After walking miles and miles his only feeling is to turn to God, so he makes a stop at a church near by when he arrives in a village. He begins to fall to his knees at the altar with both of his hands on the bible and afterwards makes his way to Casterbridge. He takes the blame for it as if he has no other choice to because it was all his fault as to why his wife and child was sold to a man that he didn t even know. By him taking full responsibility for his actions and the mistake that he s made he now sets out and tries to correct what he has done. • 27. Human Nature Of Humanity Jane Addams once said, The good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain until it is secured for all of us and incorporated into our common life. The same can be said for humanity. Evidence from history supports the concept that inhumane actions are contagious, and for this reason compassion and humanity can not be practiced in parts. Practicing humanity and compassion selectively or in parts creates an inhumane world. Humans must learn to be kind and take care of each other before much else beneficial can be accomplished. Universal humanity insures that all human beings do not have to worry about becoming victim to inhumane actions and violence. Imagine, women, children, and men victims of inhumanity and violence. In order for humanity and compassion to be of any true importance, humanity and compassion must be universal. History tells many stories of greed, entitlement, and moral failure. In addition, history also paints the picture of some horrific effects of selective humanity. One example from history that paints this picture is the VietnamWar. At the time of the Vietnam War, the United States was humane, and aside from civil displays of disapproval for the war, the people were at peace. There was no war on our home land, and there were no invasions orand overthrows of our government. These actions were overseas, but the inhumane and violent reality of Vietnam became reality for even the most compassionate Americans. The draft was the solution to the desperate war efforts during Vietnam, and was what sealed the fate of thousands of Americans. Draftees accounted for roughly 30.4% (17,725) of combat deaths in Vietnam (World History Project, USA). These individuals were every day men. Butchers, bakers, and even candle stick makers, not soldiers. They did not join on their own free will because war was a foreign affair that did not interest many draftees. Their number was called, luck of the draw, and just like that these butchers, bakers, and even candle stick makers, were off to fight a bloody battle in a foreign country that was full of hate, and violence. The war not only took good hearted men and put them in a position to hurt and kill others, the war also disrupted the civil peace

Not only are songs used to further the story along in a musical, but they also have the ability to put the audience in the emotional state of the character singing. Song has always been used as a good conductor for emotional understanding. They were of Germanic descent, and reached the pinnacle of their strength during the early fourth century. Following the Goths were the Huns and the Avars. Meanwhile, the Slavs in the fifth century CE emerged and moved southward to come in contact with the East Roman Empire. The Slavs were split into three groups, called the Antae, Sclaveni, and the Venedi. Most historical references do not pay much attention to the Antic tribes, probably because of their disappearance in the late sixth century. The Sclaveni and Venedi joined and created a unified East Slavic empire. This Slavic kingdom slowly began to increase during the late 700s. The area that was held by the Avars in the 790s was demolished through Charlemagne s destruction of their empire. With that, the Slavic people began to migrate down to what is now Kiev. The authors of the book Evolutionary Psychology use Robert Trivers definition from 1972 that states, any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the offspring s chance of surviving at the cost of parent s ability to invest in other offspring . Parents have the dilemma of possibly of not having adequate resources for both children at the same time. So infanticide could be logical in this situation so the parents could invest heavily into one of the twins to help ensure the best opportunity for the child throughout life as opposed to dividing the resources in half. This leads into the last circumstance, which is just not having the adequate amount of resources to raise even a single child. This practice is exemplified to the rate of aborted children or children sent to orphanages in young single women, or old married women who have had several children prior.
