Interview with Film Composer Chris Hajian of The Infiltrator
Pablo Escobar has been a popular topic lately. From Narcos on Netflix to Andrea s
Di Stefano s underrated Escobar Paradise Lost, cocaine and greed can t get anymore
bombastic in the entertainment zeitgeist. Yet with director Brad Furman s (The
Lincoln Lawyer), The Infiltrator, the infamous Columbian drug load plays only
second to agent Robert Mazur (played wonderfully by Bryan Cranston), the man
who brings down the world s largest cartel. It s a refreshing angle on the subject
matter with stellar performances (most notably John Leguizamo s radically different
and award worthy role) to match. Yet, one of the biggest highlights of the filmis that
of film composer Chris Hajian s (First Position, Yonkers Joe, The Take) score. Hajian
manages to keep the film s music subtle, but with gravitas to capture the heaviness
of the situation at bay. It plays to the trend of synth percussion, a popular sensation
seen everywhere from Cliff Martinez s score in Drive to Kyle Dixon and Michael
Stein of Stranger Things. Sure it plays to the trend, but doesn t get lost in it. Hijian
has the ear to work with modern sound, but keeps disciplined by incorporating
instrumental sounds that grounds the film, but at the same time keeps it constantly
moving. Check out track I m Being Followed, to hear the complexity of modern
synth, layered with piano. Recently I got the chance to sit down and interview Chris

Victorian Women In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Just like the saying, behind every man is a woman, behind the main action of a male
group s quest to save the souls of society from an evil count in Bram Stoker s gothic
fiction, there is a message about the power and morality of Victorian women.
Throughout the novel, Stoker makes a commentary about society s move toward the
new womanand illustrates his frame of mind through the female characters and the
way that the plot develops in some of their personal story lines. His message to the
readers being; a woman straying from traditional expectations causes society to see
her in a negative light.
A Victorian woman was supposed to be modest and pure, never even acknowledging
the existence of her undergarments because it would draw attention ... Show more

The depiction of strong, independent, women with negative connotations is a
problem that occurs even today in are countless movies , television shows, and
books in which powerful or successful female characters characters are depicted as
domineering, bossy, and catty. This proves to be a problem because sometimes in
order to not come across as evil or nontraditional as in the Victorian female case, or
catty and malicious in the more modern case, women feel constricted as to what
they can say and do. They sometimes feel unable speak up against a group for what
they think or believe in, they do not take the actions that they think they should, and
they do not become the leaders they could be and they end up squandering their
potential to bring about change. There is still a societal expectation for women to
be passive and to just sit on the sidelines as men continue to lead in the homes, the
businesses, and the countries and it will take more nontraditional, bossy, new
women who do not care if others see her having and using her power as a negative
trait to get rid those
The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Essay
The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Manga is a Japanese word that
is generally used to refer to comics or cartoons while Anime is a term used to refer
to animation, also originating from Japan. The origin of manga can be traced to the
18th century. The word was used for the first time in 1798 in Japan to describe
Shiji no yukikai, a picture book. The term resurfaced again in 1814 when it was used
as the title of books written by Akinwai Minwa; Hokusai Mangaand Manga Hyakujo.
These books contained drawings that had been made by Hokusai, a famous Japanese
woodlock print artist. The above facts dispel and clarify the popularised myth that
manga was invented by Hokusai (McCloud 79). Schodta (152) explains that one

However, some people deny that kibyoshi is a direct ancestor of modern Japanese
manga. However, it became extinct by mid 19th century.
The development of modern Japanese manga became more pronounced around the
mid 20th century, and many art critics state that this is the actual period of the
development of modern Japanese manga. Wood (1) explains that in the period 1945
1952, the US occupied Japan. During this time, there was an explosion of artistic
creativity and the US troops introduced to Japan American cartoons and comics like
Mickey Mouse, Bambi and Betty Boop. These inspired the Japanese artists to come
up with their own style of comics.
Osamu Tezuka, a Japanese cartoonist invented the large distinctive eyes that are
prominent in both anime and manga. For this reason, Tezuka is also referred to as
the Godfather of anime and the God of manga. Tezuka s popular works called
Mighty Atom which was produced as a series called Astro Boy became the first
Japanese TV series to embody the aesthetic characteristic that came to be known as
anime worldwide. The TV series Astro Boy was broadcast in Japan for the first time
in 1963(Schodtb 109).
According to Schodtb (111), Tezuka s manga was quite different from other manga
producers that came before him. For example, most prior manga were produced in
the style of a stage play and from a two dimensional perspective. In addition,

Reflection Of Psalm 121
I read this passage to Cindy a few times over the last 2 ВЅ years. It always seemed to
bring her peace as she processed her next step in this journey. Psalm 121 seems to
speak of the tough times in our lives and how we can still find peace. God does not
live in some celestial tower, far away from the world Godcreated. God cares for all
the people and all of creation. God cares for us amidst all the twists and turns of life s
journey. It is that conviction which inspires Psalm 121, a Psalm I read again to
Cindy in the last week of her life. Psalm 121 is sometimes called „the
traveler‟s Psalm‟. It was a psalm sung by pilgrims as they made their annual
journey to Jerusalem. It expressed their faith in God, but also reflected the unease
they felt about travel. I look to the mountains; where will my help come from?
(v.1). Mountains may be beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. Mountains are
places where people lose their lives. No, the hills are not the place from which our
help comes rather they are the place where help is needed. Here in this Psalm, the
hills or mountains represented the perils of the journey, for it was in the ravines and
gorges of the mountain ranges that wild beasts and robbers hid. As the pilgrims
looked to the mountain ranges they had to cross if they were to reach Jerusalem,
they were filled with foreboding and wondered from where their help would come. It
is in this situation that the Psalmist declares: My help will come from the Lord, the

ABSTRACT
Structural defects are inevitable in graphene due to its production techniques as well
as chemical and heat treatment processes. These defects in graphene are
introduced either during the production process or deliberately by us to tailor its
properties. In this article, the effect of nearest neighbour distance and angular
orientation between Stone Thrower Wales defects (STW 2) on the mechanical
properties and failure morphology of graphene was investigated in the frame of
molecular dynamics. Mechanical properties and failure morphology of graphene
was predicted to be the function of angular orientation between STW 2 defects,
when the nearest neighbour distance was in the range of 10 Г…. Graphene sheet
containing pair of STW 2 defects had shown an overall increase of 8% and 11% in
fracture strength and strain respectively as compared to graphene with single STW 2
defect. This study also characterised the failure morphology of graphene sheet with
single and pair of STW 2 defects in the armchair direction.

Rhetorical Analysis of Randy Pausch s Last Lecture Essay
Hypothetically, if you knew you were going to die and you had one last lecture,
what would you say to your students? That is how Professor Randy Pausch, from
Carnegie Mellon, began his last lecture, a speech entitled Really Achieving Your
Childhood Dreams while in fact he was dying of Pancreatic Cancer. He knew he
only had months left to live and put together this last lecture to read to his students.
His lecture focuses in on points such as the importance of: making sincere apologies,
not whining, being gracious and being humble. To stress his thoughts and views on
life and following one s dreams, Randy Pauschused a great amount of repetition,
metaphors, allusion, humor, ethos, and pathos in his last lecture. Randy Pausch went

During his speech, he is honest and accepting of his condition but continues to stay
positive. Although he knows he s dying, he s still positive even through his darkest
times. He makes his audience realize that their problems aren t so big and to enjoy
life.
Randy Pausch uses Pathos to get his point across to his audience. I am dying soon,
and I am choosing to have fun today, tomorrow, and every other day I have left . He
talks about his kids and how they are the ones he wrote this last lecture for, saying
I only wrote this lecture for three people, and when they re older, they ll watch it .
Pausch also talks about his family, and love for his wife. By talking about his
family and the love he has for them it appeals to people s emotions. The reader is
able to put themselves in the shoes of either his wife, his child, or his own shoes
because everyone knows what it is like to have someone that you care deeply
about. The thought of losing that person can really strike a chord and overall
creates pathos. Pathos is also established in the introduction of his speech when
Pausch is explaining his cancer and how he only has months to live, which is easy
for many people to relate to considering there are numerous people who have
received the news that their loved one has a short period of time to

The Red Tailed Hawk is one of God s amazing creatures. It is a great majestic
creature that shows Gods guiding gentle hand in its creation. The bird was made

hundred feet in the air, and attack and kill small prey such as mice, voles, shrews,
moles, squirrels, chipmunks, rats, rabbits, opossums, muskrats, cats, skunks, and
bats. These are some of the hawk s prey. This is why it is toward the top of the food

The bird will reach its sexual maturity at the age of 2 years old. The bird is
monogamous, which means it mates with a bird for many years or even life.
Usually only finding new mates when one of the other mates die. Also while
together the mates will defend the same nesting territory for many years. The main
threat to the nesting is the Great Horn Owl. The owl begins its mating and nesting
before the hawk, so this is why the hawk defends its old nesting. The hawk and owl
will destroy both each other s nests and eggs. The owls are unable to build their
own nest so they try to steal the hawks. While the birds are mating they will circle
around each other shrilling loud shrilling sounds. The males will then begin to do
air shows going up high a diving and climbing again. He may during this briefly
grab the talons of the females with his. After the air show which can last 10 minutes
or longer the birds will then begin some sexual intercourse. Although there is not
always the air show before reproducing. This happens usually late winter to early
spring. It will happen multiple times a
Evaluate Gm s Currency Hedging Policies Essay
3. Evaluate GM s currency hedging policies. [3 pages] {Gavin} {Ryan} The issue
here may lie with the 50% to 75% hedge as it is doubtful as to why GM does not
hedge its receivables / payables by 100%. Perhaps the issue is related to high costs
of using options and their receivables / payables run into huge amounts. Additionally,
GM is not keen on committing to a forward because they have positive expectations
about the future exchange rate and the forward would only serve to limit their
possible gains.

However by paying a small premium for an option, GM would be able to preserve the
upside of any exposure. This is because an option gives them the right to choose
whether to exercise it or not upon maturity. Hence, if the CAD dollar weakens
against the USD, GM s large Canadian assets and liabilities and payables owed to
Canadian suppliers would weaken considerably. GM could then choose to exercise
the option for a better exchange rate. Conversely, if the CAD dollar strengthens, then
GM would choose not to exercise the option as their cash flows denominated in
Canadian dollar is now worth more compared to the USD.
The level of risk adverseness plays a huge role because GM may be inclined to hedge
all exposure using a forward if they are highly risk adverse. On the other hand, GM
may be willing to pay a premium for an option to ensure the still receive the upside
if they are not so risk adverse. This links to expectations on future spot rates and how
GM anticipates the CAD to fluctuate vis Г vis the USD in the coming months. If
GM anticipates future spot rates of CAD/USD to weaken, it would prefer to buy a
forward and the reverse holds true as well.
After conduction an analysis, it shows that the fluctuations in exchange rate could
cause a lot of trouble for GM. Hence, it reverts back to the issue of GM s
expectations of the future spot exchange rate. From this, they can then determine
which hedging method is more

Although it is well equipped with modern hotels, arguably the most charming
accommodations in Marrakech are to be found in its riads, such as the Riad
Zayane. Riads are a traditional style of Moroccan home, named after the courtyard

riads orient their windows inwards and around the central courtyard, presenting
the outside world with solid walls. The result is the exclusion of the chaotic, noisy
world of the streets of Marrakech, a virtue which is as relevant to modern Marrakech
as it is to the city s medieval past. Features The Riad Zayane is a two story riad with

The hotel is located off a market street outside Bab Boutouil. People who love
immersing themselves in the urban life of a developing world city will enjoy
making the trip through the crowded hustle and bustle of the vegetable sellers, halal
butchers and fishmongers, but for some visitors that transit will become tiring
quickly. Furthermore, the Riad Zayane is a full 20 minute walk from the center of
the Medina at the main square and the Koutoubia Mosque. Visitors have the choice
of either making a 40 minute round trip in the heat and air pollution or haggling
over a taxi every time they set out for the day or going out for meals. However, that
drawback must be kept in perspective relative to the city. Only a few hotels are both
comfortable and centrally placed, and for these visitors must pay a premium. Most
Riads are set in locations like the Riad Zayane s or in even less convenient areas,

anyone staying at a pleasant hotel inside the Medina will face the same locational

Comparative Studies of Bladerunner and Frankenstein
Compare the ways in which texts offer insights into the human experience. Every text
is a product of its time. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein , she uses the gothic horror
genre to explore some of the concerns of her time relating to the use of science and

present a bleak view of a future world overrun by technology and consumerism, but
devoid of human emotion. Both these texts offer insights into the human experience

Commander Bryan Smith of the Corpus Christi Police Department, when asked what
type of family life do gang members have, said they come from male dominated
households or one parent households.
Many of these youth are from families that are female centered, they are not
necessarily female dominated, because an aggressive male father figure can impact
on the family s history, and more importantly on the child s psychosocial
development.
This parental male is perceived as the most powerful member of the family system,
who gratifies his needs through the use of aggression and intimidation. Many of
these youths have been physically abused by this male adult and also have
witnessed their mothers and /or siblings being battered. If the male figure is no

long after his departure. (Adler)
Happy homes do not send many of their youngsters into gangs. Gangs are appealing
to those kids who have unpleasant memories of their home life. There is emotional
pain involved in most gang members pasts. In the author s work (Adler) with Chicano

the Chicano gang members exhibit violent and aggressive behavior. These youths
experience intense feelings of isolation within their families, culture, school,
community and church.

The Accident Investigation Of The Crash
Background
Following the in flight disintegration of the Kanishka, most of the aircraft came to
rest on the ocean floor almost 7,000 feet below the surface. During the accident
investigation that followed, the submerged wreckage was surveyed, photographed
and videotaped, and pieces were recovered off the ocean floor. Floating wreckage
was also recovered and examined. Each piece was given a unique number called a
target . The RCMP returned to the crash site for two subsequent salvage operations
in 1989 and 1991 during which further underwater video footage was captured and
further wreckage recovered. Of the 465 targets observed on the ocean floor, 159
were positively identified as aircraft components or as coming from particular parts ...

The significance of this expert evidence lies primarily in their differing opinions
regarding the location of the bomb that precipitated the destruction of the
Kanishka. The Crown theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Professor
Christopher Peel, is that it was located in Baggage Area 52, which contained the
M. Singh bag. The defence theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Dr.
Edward Trimble and Mr. Frank Taylor, is that it was located some five feet forward
of that location in Baggage Area 51, containing luggage checked in at Toronto. A
conclusion that the defence evidence raises a reasonable doubt with respect to the
Crown s bomb location would fundamentally undermine its theory about the role of
these accused in the alleged offences. Thus, while the distance between the two
proposed bomb locations is remarkably small, its significance is great.

Sexism In Mary Wilkins Freeman s The Revolt Of Mother
Throughout many civilizations men have almost always been viewed as the
superior gender. Society has often perceived men as stronger, smarter, and better
when compared to women. Many women during the 1900 s began to speak out
against these predominate views of sexism. They strew away from their
subordinate occupations of mother and house keeper, and began to make decisions
for themselves. It was a struggle for women to gain the support of society. Even
today sexism still exists in comments like, You throw like a girl and many more.
Society has greatly progressed through the plights of many niches, but still has a long

Political Leadership And Its Effects On African Americans
Political Leadership involves leading people in the right manner that will lead to
the achievement of set goals. This requires the political leaders to have special
skills that the ordinary citizen doesn t have so as to lead in a proper way.
Additionally, leaders are expected to have the power to fight for the people s rights
to any opposing or discriminating the people. During the colonization time, most of
the people from African countries were colonized by the Western countries that lead
to the movement of these people from Africa to western Countries and America so
as to serve as slaves. As such, the population of Africans in America increased at a
very high rate which impacted on the Africa American people to be exposed to slavery
, suffering, and prejudice. Henceforth, the calling of leaders to represent the Africa
American emerged. Most of the time, these leaders were subjected to a lot of
mistreatments as well as cruelty, in order to destroy the hopes of advocating for the
rights of the black people.
It was at this time that W.E.B Du Bois and Booker T. Washington stood out to defend
the black people in the ruling of America. The two political leaders advocated for the
provision of human rights to the black people and to the end of oppression,

before receiving a degree. He certainly enjoyed drawing and did some excellent
work in that area, but he soon turned his pen instead to another purpose: writing.
Chesterton met with great success as a writer. He published well over a hundred
works, including novels, articles, essays, short stories, and even published debates.
Despite these successes, however, critics attack him ferociously and regularly. He
has been described as annoying, tiresome, and simply a con artist looking for a
laugh. His favorite rhetorical devices have been ridiculed as flippancy and insincere
showmanship. If so many people dislike his writing so vehemently, it must be for
good reason. But perhaps there is less a problem with Chesterton s writing, and more
a problem with the people reading it. Perhaps they do not like it because they do not
understand it or refuse to understand it. The nature of Chesterton himself and that of

Organic Food Is Better Than Conventional Food
Organic food is a current topic in today s healthful world. There are different sides
to the organic food argument. One is that organic food is much better than
conventional food. The other is that conventional food is just as good as organic
and more for your dollar. To some families organic food is more then they can afford
because of the extra work that is required to grow it. People say that organic foodis
better because it has no chemicals or fertilizer in it but that is not true because they
do put fertilizer on it just natural fertilizer that is certified by the USDA.
Conventional foodwhich to many people think is not safe because of the chemicals
in it but it is just as safe as organic food. Some organic food is not completely
chemical free. Certified organic is the most chemical free but not completely.
According to the Mayo Clinic if the produce has a USDA organic seal on it then it
is 95 to 100 percent organic. Products that are completely organic such as fruits,
vegetables, eggs or other single ingredient foods are labeled 100 percent organic
and can carry the USDA seal. Foods that have more than one ingredient, such as
breakfast cereal, can use the USDA organic seal plus the following wording,
depending on the number of organic ingredients, 100 percent organic. To use this
phrase, products must be either completely organic or made of all organic
ingredients. Organic. Products must be at least 95 percent organic to use this term
(Are They Safe?).
Aurora Compare And Contrast
Overtime what constitutes as a city has drastically changed. Migration, economic
growth, and physical development of land have turned small towns into bustling
cities; these circumstances have transformed the once small suburban town of Aurora
into one of the largest city in Illinois. Aurora s size, density, and diverse population
have made it the cityit is today. Although, Aurora is drastically different than Chicago
, it still possessed the key characteristics of a city while remaining unique. From the
cities infancy Aurora has been a front runner in innovation, in fact; Aurora was the
first town in Illinois to light its streets with electric lights, and with this improvement,
the small town began to expand. In addition to the light system,
Sociological Imagination On Low Self-Esteem
In this paper I will use sociological imagination to connect my personal experience
to dealing with low self esteem in the theme of impression management. As a
young girl, I ve always struggled with low self esteem. Starting at the age of 15, I
was so worried about trying to catch up with these unreachable standards of beauty
that I eventually lost sight of who I was especially when it came to social media.
There were times when I d try to change the way I looked just to impress guys or

brought on a lot of pressure for me, like the desire to want to look good or be

I was a very introverted girl who didn t have very much friends in high school and
the fact that I got bullied almost every day for the way that I looked contributed to
my self esteem issues. I felt like I wasn t accepted for who I was. There were also
times when I d find myself scrolling through my newsfeed to see all of these
attractive young women with their curvaceous body posing in their bikinis on
Instagram or Facebook. I would look at them and think how could I ever compete
with that. These were the type of females I ve seen people praising all the time and
I wanted to look like that. I then started changing my appearance and would start

Water Leaks In Residential Homes
Having water leaks can be a constant hazard for residential homes. It does not have
to be a big leak because a small leak can lead to a mold problem that can be harmful
and cause significant damage. Leak detection can be a long, expensive process.
Some leaks do produce water damage that is visible on floor or drywall but others
are only noticeable when the homeowner gets a higher than usual water bill.
When checking for water leaks you should first check the areas where the water
pipes run through the floors and walls for water damage signs and then examine the
water fixtures themselves where the fixtures may feel wet or have some water
collected there. Check to see if any of the faucets are dripping, which can mean you
need to change the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One place that you may have water leaking is your toilet. Each time you flush the
toilet you think it will automatically stop when the tank is full but in some
instances, it quietly continues to run slowly into the toilet. To see if this is the
problem you can stand there until it fills and see if you see a slow stream of water
going down the inside of the toilet bowl. If you see that you should replace the
fixtures in the toilet reservoir. You can check with a plumbingstore and they can help
you with what you need to replace. You could also place a little food coloring into
the reservoir tank and check in thirty minutes to see if there is any dye in the toilet
bowl. If there is, this indicates a leaking flapper that will need to be replaced.
If you are not able to find the leak, you can call plumbing companies and have a
plumber that specializes in leak detection. They have professional equipment that
can help to find any leaks under the floors or in the walls where you cannot see
them without tearing out the floors or walls. Some of the leaks are a simple fix
that you can do yourself while others may be expensive and require a plumber to
fix the leak. If there is a water leak detection it needs to be fixed immediately before

Conflict Diamonds Case Study
1. What are conflict diamonds? What groups benefited from the trade in conflict
diamonds? What groups were hurt by it? As defined in the case study, conflict
diamonds are gemstones that are mined or stolen by rebels fighting internationally
recognized governments. Any of the anti government/rebel forces/guerrilla troops/or
other nonconformist groups within the areas of question or which could fall into this
category or situation. The case study points out two groups who benefited the most
under this circumstance; the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) (specific to the
Sierra Leone region in West Africa) and the UNITA rebels (specific to the Angola
region). These rebels inflicted physical pain on the villages which they took over in

Their interests converged on the premise that each one acting on their own would
not have stood a chance without the interdependence on the others for mutual
support. They goal was to ensure that diamonds were harvested under proper
conditions for proper motives and for proper business principles. 3. Do you
believe that any of these three sectors could have addressed the problem of conflict
diamonds unilaterally? Why or why not? No. Each of these organizations needed
the other in order to gain mutual support and elevate the situation to a level that
would get support and visibility, not just on a local level, but on a global level. If
the business organizations had raised the issue alone, then they would have risked
losing customers on the basis of lack of accountability in their mining system, yet it
was one that was almost unavoidable, given the circumstances. If the governments
had attempted it alone, then maybe the other governments would have brushed it
off as a civil action with their own borders. Had the activists acted alone, they may
have been viewed as one sided sympathizers who did not see the big picture.
However, together, they were all able to bring their concerns to the table and unify
into a single supported cause with a clear goal. 4. What are the

Western Film Conventions
The western film Shane (1953) was produced by director George Stephens and is
based on the original book Shane (1949) written by Jack Schaefer. The western genre
has specific codes and conventions that make it easy for an audience to recognise,
such as; iconography (guns, horses, and typical cowboy costume), frontier towns,
ranchers and homesteaders, gamblers, bandits, vast open lands and conquering virgin
territory. Furthermore, westernfilms often include binary oppositions such as; the
individual versus the community, civilisation versus the wilderness, nature versus
culture, good versus bad etc. The filmShane incorporates all of these aspects well,
making it a recognisable and successful western film.
The opening scene makes quite clear many of the binary oppositions, although
focuses primarily on the individual and civilisation. The first glimpse we get of

Fences, barriers and their destruction play a key role throughout the film and
emphasise the theme of freedom versus restriction that is present throughout. Again
from the opening sequence, we see the wooden fence surrounding the homestead
put there in order to keep trespassers from invading their land, their livestock from
escaping or from desert animals coming in and destroying their crops and
livelihood, the river also provides a further barrier from these things. Therefore the
fence and river act as protection from individuals outside of their family
community. It may also be used to keep the community in; during the film it
becomes obvious that little Joey develops a huge friendship and admiration for
Shane, who is not part of the community. This could suggest that Joey wants to grow
up and be like Shane and the fence therefore is to keep Joey in and a part of the

The Day Of Doom By Wigglesworth
Everyone comes into the world as sinners, and God only saves the elect, the
predestined chosen ones. Defining who the elect and who the sinners are is unclear;
thus, Puritans live a moral life, constantly practicing religion, in hopes of being an
elect. In The Day of Doom, Wigglesworth depicts the feebleness of earthly relations
when in the face of God. Judgment Day clarifies the once ambiguous distinction
between the elect and sinners, harshly dividing family members from each other.
Wigglesworth s poem instills fear in Puritans to continue their religious practices
(faith in Puritanbeliefs, read scripture, pray, etc.) so as not to fall into temptations,
which would rid them of any chance to be an elect. Wigglesworth utilizes meter,
rhyme, and biblical allusions to connect his audience, the Puritan community, with
his version of Judgment Day, painting a picture of destruction due to the division of
the elect and sinners. In stanzas 195 201 of The Day of Doom, the poet talks of
parents, partners, children, and siblings being sentenced to Hell and the apathy
shown at those moments. By including these relationships, Wigglesworth presents
his image of God s wrath to those of all ages, creating a great fear of straying from
the Puritan beliefs. The poem has a huge audience of the Puritan community, but the
rhyme and meter of the poem are for the children s practice in religion. A huge
problem in Puritanism is where the children stand in God s eyes. So parents had their

Tv Shows Influence On American Culture
Ever since the modern age of human history began, mediums of communication have
had a vital impact in society and culture. The newspaper was the first medium that
changed the ways of communication and information. In the 1600s, the newspaper
was an important tool to communicate events and political ideas in Europe. Two
centuries later, the radio became an innovative outlet. Radio stations would broadcast
news, information, and entertainment in the forms of music, sports and variety
shows. However, there is an outlet that revolutionized more than just communication,
information and entertainment.
Television revolutionized the entire path of human society. Since the first TV sets
were made in the late 1800s, television viewers in America have increased. As the
years went by, TV was not only a magic box , as many people used to call it.
Television became a powerful and profitable business for the major networks. In the

To understand the influence TV shows have on American individuals and families,
it is important to first know the numbers and statistics of TV viewers since the post

percent in 1946 to 9 percent in 1950. After that, penetration rates inclined fairly
steadily so that by 1955 about 65 percent of the
Essay about Ethics and Gatekeeping in The Media
Gatekeeping is controlling access to goods, services, or information, usually applied
by individuals or groups in hierarchical organizations. (CSA). As it applies to media,
gatekeeping refers to the method in which information is filtered for distribution, this
can be done through the internet, print or broadcasting. Due to the power that
gatekeepers wield in controlling what we as the public read, hear or see, there are
many ethical concerns to be considered and liberties to be safeguarded. Rupert

has brought unity to the company, by implementing a strategy of investing inwards
and has seen his fair share of scandals. Viacom has been at the receiving end of racist

A Research Study On Serial Killers
Summary of the research question and outcome
My research project topic was slightly motivated by a murder in the family around 20
years ago. Hearing about this was overwhelming and made me think about murderers
themselves, and what motivated them to commit murder and whether these reasons
could be categorised. Preliminary research identified that serial killers are people
who have committed two or more discrete murders, either acting alone or with
another person. A number of secondary sources present information stating that serial
killers usually fall into the following categories: Visionary, Mission Oriented,
Hedonistic and Power/Control. The outcome is in the form of an essay explaining
the most common serial killers motives. The key finding from my research is that
serial killers are not motivated by one particular reason, but there are many other
explanations as to why they commit such a heinous crime or are motivated to commit
murder.

I found one that was suitable. The original questions were what are the

The movie Men of Honor stars Robert De Niro as Master Chief Leslie Billy Sunday
and Cuba Gooding, Jr as Chief Carl Brashear. The movie is loosely based on the real
life story of Chief Carl Brashear, the first black man to become a Master Deep Sea
Diver in the US Navy. The movie takes place during the 1950s and 1960s in the US.
During that time, racism and discrimination was a society norm. The movie uses
drama and writer s freedom of expression to tell the story of the hardships Chief
Brashear faced in his quest to become a Master Diver. The movie was released on
November 10, 2000 in the United States theatres (Cinema.com, 2000).

That respect showed through during the final test. The school commanding officer
made it clear that Brashear was not to pass. The Chiefs working on the dock with
Master Chief understood the Captain s order. They made sure to make it hard on
Brashear to force him to give up by cutting his tool bag. However, Master Chief
stayed on the docks until Petty Officer Brashear was able to complete the valve even
though it took 9 hours in the extremely cold water.
Master Chief has a problem with authority during the entire movie and as a result
of several outbreaks (including hitting LCDR Hanks in the nose), had been
demoted to Chief. Yet, Chief Sunday approached Senior Chief Brashear to help him
get ready for a medical review board and return to active service. Chief Sunday kept
putting Senior Chief Brashear s needs and interest above his own. Of course, having
the chance to defeat Chief Sunday s mortal enemy, now Captain Hanks, was just

Analysis Of Steve Smulka Paints Glass
Steve Smulka paints glass but it might be more accurate to say that Smulka paints
light. Smulka uses mason jars, vintage seltzer bottles, wine decanters, vases and water
pitchers to capture the way light bends, refracts, illuminates, and distorts its
surroundings. In some of the paintings, backgrounds of looming clouds and ridged
tree bark are as in focus as the glass containers in the foreground, merging the two in a
poetic, scrupulously accurate, yet slightly unreal manner. In other paintings, bottles in
columns two, three, or four deep create multiple layers of transparency that make for
almost abstract studies of light and color. In Steve Smulka s closely observed,
meditative paintings, these densely luminous layers give weight to the

apparent that there is a need for the utilization of dispute settlement mechanisms.
The advantages of these mechanisms seem to outweigh the disadvantages in the
sense that these mechanisms are considerably cheaper than having to go through

these settlements can be handled with. This is clearly a necessary factor for
companies which require disputes to be handled speedily in relation to time

2342227], cardiac oxidative stress and platelet count (PMID: 24040369).
Formaldehyde inhalation also induced bradycardia in animals [PMID: 3735804],
and this effect was found to be mediated by a sympathetic nerve activity (PMID:
3735804). Additionally, subacute and subchronic inhalation of formaldehyde was
associated with cardiac oxidative stress, and consequently a cardic cells damage
(PMID: 16716041). With regards to platelets, it was shown that the total platelet
count significantly increased in mice exposed to formaldehyde gas for 2 weeks (
PMID: 24040369 ); the potential negative consequence of this effect should be
considered in the context of the importance of platelets in maintaining hemostasis,
and their role in thrombotic disorders. As for acetaldehyde, elevated blood pressure
and heart rate were reported in animals following inhalation of variable doses, which
could be due to its sympathomimetic effect (PMID: 5071036, PMID: 5681176). It is
noteworthy that while the source(s) of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in these
studies were not from e cigarette vapors, the concentrations used are
A Comparison Of Sirens And The Little Mermaid
Sirens and The Little Mermaid
There is a universal ideology that suggests that each gender plays their specific,
individualized roles in society: men acting as independent, powerful alpha males,
and women being their dutiful submissives. Contemporary narratives depict
women as such whereas mythology is rich with goddesses and other female figures
who are brave and powerful warriors equal to men. So if mythology can be
overflowed with stories about female leaders, how come contemporary narratives
have derived from that viewpoint? Sirens in Greek Mythology are a perfect example
of the derivation to the new idea of women in society: weak. By examining the myth
of Sirens through a feminist critical lens, the question of whether society is concerned
with the ways in which literature and other cultural productions reinforce or
undermine the economic, political, social, and psychological oppression (Brizee
Web) will be answered. The mythological legend of the Sirens highlights the
superiority of these figures who could destroy by temptation through their melodic
voices; modern interpretations of sirens as in Disney s The Little Mermaid (1989)
reduce the feminine power of the siren to a contemporary stereotype of the powerless,
dependent, subservient woman.
Sirens in mythology are defined as beautiful, destructive creatures either half woman,
half bird or half woman, half fish that obtain power by luring sailors to their deaths,
causing their ships to crash on the reefs near
Sarah Mcquilkin And The Great Depression
There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than
anything that bleeds. is a highly impactful quote spoken by Laurell K. Hamilton.
Depression is a serious mental condition that is characterized by extreme feelings of
sadness, worthlessness or hopelessness, fatigue, irritability, loss of appetite, inability
to concentrate, and insomnial or excessive sleeping. Statistics show that between ten
percent and fifteen percent of young people exhibit symptoms of depression.
Depression may have physical or emotional causes and may require long term
treatment. Depending on the type of depression and the severity, treatment may
include prescription antidepressant drugs or psychotherapy. Controversy surrounds
the decision... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people have easily pushed aside this issue, completely underestimating how
many people it s affecting but when reading Lisa Mayoh s quote, your mind will be
completely changed. Over thirty thousand children under eighteen are prescribed
antidepressants. That s a lot of young children who are being affected by this drug
day after day but the real argument is over whether it is helping them or hurting
them. In most cases it ends up helping. The sad reality is that no parent wants their
teenager to down a handful of antidepressants everyday to fight anxiety or
depression as stated in article Are We Over Medicating Our Children . Although
that reality is frightening for people to deal with, many parents will agree that
taking a few pills every day has improved their child s quality of life tremendously
and has proven to be worth it in several aspects. Mary Sullivan is the mother of a
sixteen year old boy who has been fighting depression for two years. In her words,
it was so difficult because every parent wants their kids to be perfect and you don t
want to accept the fact that something might be wrong with your child. This is all
very understandable but she has also been quoted to say that once she got over this
her son was put on antidepressants and he is now the happiest she s seen him since
he was little.
Confirmation Procedure of Account Receivable
Steps In Confirmation Process
The steps in the process of confirming receivables follow: Step 1. Obtain Aged
Schedule of Accounts Receivable
The auditor should obtain an aged schedule of accounts receivable as of the
confirmation date. He or she should apply the following procedures to this schedule:
Determine that totals are correct.
Compare all or a selected sample of account balances with the account balances in the
accounts receivable subsidiary ledger.
Investigate credit balances. Step 2. Select Accounts for Confirmation
Auditors have used, and some continue to use, judgment in selecting accounts for
confirmation. Statistical sampling methods, however, are ideal for the selection
process.

The confirmation requests always should remain in the auditor s custody or under his
or her supervision until mailed. Step 4. Process Responses to Confirmation Requests
When confirmation replies are received, the auditor should do the following:
[1]. Enter for each account the following:
Date received.
Amount confirmed.
[2]. If the amount confirmed differs from the account balance, the following should
be done:
Photocopy confirmation reply.
Give photocopy to client and request that the difference be reconciled and provide
documentation for reconciling items.
Review documentation for reconciling items.
If documentation is satisfactory, enter reasons for difference in receivable
confirmation schedule.
[3]. If the amount confirmed differs from the account balance and the client cannot
satisfactorily reconcile the difference, the auditor should do the following:
If the difference is small, the auditor may ignore it. If there are a significant number
of small differences, however, the auditor should analyze them. If the analysis of the
significant number of small differences indicates a deficiency in the receivable
controls, the auditor may have to apply additional auditing procedures to satisfy
himself or herself of the accounts receivable balance.
If the difference is significant, request the client to correspond with the debtor. Make
certain the correspondence states that the

Therefore, the immune system does not cause the body to reject the organ. Statists

What causes this disease is, after the transplant is complete the cells, of the
transplanted bone marrow or stem cell, start attacking the recipient s body. GVHD
has a wide range of how dangerous it can be to the patient s life, it can range from
mild, where it is easily treatable, to life threatening, where there is no stopping the
donor cells from attacking the recipient s body. A biopsy on an affected organ can
determine diagnoses of GVHD grade from I (mildest) to IV (most severe). To
prevent GVHD, a couple of days before the transplant multiple drugs are prescribed
to the patient: cyclosporine and methotrexate, tacrolimus and methotrexate,
tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil, or prograf and sirolimus. These drugs are to
lower the immune system from attacking the donor s cells. The outlooks of a patient
after the transplant is determined on how severe GVHD is and how closely match
the bone marrow tissue or cell was. There have been some cases where GVHD
caused damage to the liver, lungs, digestive tract and other organs. However, if this
does happen or the patient start developing symptoms of GVHD, there are treatments.
But the treatments does not always guarantee that the transplant will treat the original
disease that was meant for the bone marrow tissue or cell transplant.
Xenotransplantation is something we don t hear everyday. Xenotransplantation is a
process where animal organs, tissues and cells are transplanted into humans for
medical reasons. The most common animal to transplant organs into humans, with
the most success, is a pig. It is a personal opinion whether or not xenotransplantation
can help or hurt you. Before deciding whether to do the operation or not you will
have to look at the pros and cons that are listed

Question 1: Effects of Cash Reserve Ratio Reduction on Inflation, Money Supply,
Employment Rates and Gross Domestic Product
Regulators of financial matters and performance in a given country or region are
often faced with the difficult task of ensuring that the performance of the economy is
always positive. This is because the economy of a country directly influences the
standard of living in the country through factors such as employment and the overall
prices of commodities in the country. to effectively control, the performance of the
economy, regulators make use of various tools that are at their disposal.
Controlling the financial instruments in the country presents regulators with the best
of options in determining the economic performance. During difficult times when a
region might be experiencing various challenges financially, the government through
regulatory bodies can opt to employ the various ways of controlling the financial
instruments in the country. Controlling the levels of cash reserve ratio presents
regulatory bodies with a viable option depending on the end desires of the
government. The term cash reserve ratio is used in describing the amounts that
regulatory bodies stipulate for lending outlets to keep as a reserve and deposit.
Essentially, money or funds that are kept as reserve by the lending outlets such as
banks are not supposed to be used in the provision of short term or long term credit

Our medical director is a neurologist, so I am thinking that his statistics are correct
and researched. I would like to relate the experiences that I had with my
grandmother when I was growing up. When I was in my youth, my grandmother
was already in her 60 s was very active and had great mental acuity. She was always
physically active and I used to go everywhere with her. She would take me to
museums in New York City and she would navigate the city fairly well, even at her
advancing age. As she got older, she still remained active and kept her brain active
by reading, knitting and that sort of thing. In her 80 s and 90 s her brain was still
very sharp until she passed at the age of 96. There was no evidence of Alzheimer s
disease with her at all and up until her death her thinking was clear. My parents
who are in their 80 s are not experiencing any form of dementia either. I believe that
they will not experience this because they keep their bodies active as well as their
minds. My dad is pretty computer literate for someone of his age, where most folks
his age are not, and with the world of information at his disposal, he is learning new
information all of the time. I believe that their crystallized intelligence is increasing
due to increased brain activity/stimulation. From the reading in Diessner (2008) the
authors posited that a decline
History Of The Age Of Exploration
The age of exploration was a time in the 1400s when European ships went on trips
to find new trades and trading aliases to pay for the capitalism in Europe. The age
of exploration connects to the renaissance because people were getting new trades
and discovering new places, which connects to the theme of the rebirth of the
renaissance. Three of the key explorers of that time period were Ferdinand Magellan,
John Cabot, and Cristoforo Colombo, and some of them were heroes and some were
villains.
Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who explored a western sea route to
the Spice Islands. He split up three ships so that they divide and conquer most of the
different branches of the channel to see if it would go to the west. In November 27, ...

On 1498, Columbus left from Spain on his third time going to the americas. This time
with six ships. He explored many islands, and he traveled on some of South

he was not in asia, but in a new land. He quickly got rid of this claim. He spent
some of the third trip exploring, but when he got back to Spain to govern his
colonists, he started to develope some problems. They got mad with his leadership.
He was a very cruel governor, and he inflicted many terrible punishments, and
everyone thought that he was lying to them about the wealth of the new islands.
The rulers of spain agreed with them, and hired a new governor, Francisco de
Bobadilla. Columbus was made a prisoner on a ship to spain. He is a villain because
he was terrible to the natives, and he was very unfair and cruel to his colonists.
Christopher Columbus did sail across the atlantic ocean to the americas, but he was
cruel to his colonists, and he killed and told the natives to leave their land so that he
could claim it for himself. He also was captured as a prisoner on a boat from his new
colony, back to
Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact,
approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned
pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets
came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended
from some larger wild catbut it is a little more complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been
involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed
Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early
cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It
was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of
Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the
1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as
companions (Pushy Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started
settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from
rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats
(Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage,
came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people
appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists
Leopold Mozart Essay
Leopold Mozart
The rain poured down hard, flooding the suburban streets of Vienna. Thunder roared
all around the funeral procession on December 6,
1791, as it laboriously headed for St. Marx Cemetery. As it reached the city walls of
Vienna, the few friends who had accompanied Mozart on his last journey turned
back, due to the unusually bad weather conditions. Such a scene is sadly appropriate
in representing the tragic end of Mozart who had begun his life with such
immeasurable promise. On
January 27, 1756, Leopold Mozart paced up and down the hall of his home in
Salzburg, Austria, in anticipation of the arrival of his seventh child. His wife, Anna
Maria, had given birth to a boy: Wolfgang. Wolfgang and his only other... Show more

After three years of monotony with an occasional commission, the twenty year old
musician had no more to hope for from life in the provinces and reached the
decision: he would leave Salzburg. Mozart felt he could breathe again as he set off
from Salzburg sure that his genius was about to be acknowledged by the world at
large. In 1777, Mozart traveled with his mother to
Mannheim, where he remained and composed, ignoring the looming financial
problems he was facing. In the meantime, he had fallen madly in love with the young
singer Aloysia
Weber. Leopold was aghast, Aloysia was the daughter of a lowly copyist and member
of the chorus at the court theater, this match seemed disastrous. Mozart s father
resorted to emotional blackmail to get him out of Mannheim and into
Paris where he could take on pupils. It seems that Mozart did pay heed and set off
with his mother for Paris on March
13, 1778. In Paris, everything seemed to be going well until
Anna Maria was struck down by a fever and fell into a coma. Her death on July 3rd
left Mozart grieving and in isolation. He reluctantly returned to Salzburg full of
dread, and was greeted by his father with these words: If your mother had come
back home from Mannheim, she would not have died... You would have got to Paris
at a better time... and my poor wife would still be (alive) in Salzburg.

The Effects Of Weather On Our Daily Lives
There are hazards all around us in our daily lives. Just to name a few, there are three
issues that come to mind. These three are distracted driving, hazardous waste, and
extreme weather. The less severe of these three would be extreme weather. Even
though one would think that this issue would be very severe, but with this issue only
happening a small percentage of the time, I consider it the lesser of the three issues.
The second issue, which is more severe than the weather, would be hazardous waste.
With things like household and industrial waste. The last and most severe is
distracted driving. Starting with the less severe issue. We look at extreme weather
being an issue to a very large community. There are so many types of weather... Show

Waste that is considered hazardous has properties that make it dangerous or harmful
to people and/or the environment.
There are many sources that produce hazardous waste. Ranging from industrial
processing waste to batteries. I can come in many forms such as liquids, solids,
gases, or sludges. Now for waste to be considered hazardous, the waste has to be in a
solid form first. There are two steps to identifying waste as hazardous. The first
step in determining a material as a solid waste is to identify it. The second is to
examine the waste to see whether it is excluded as a solid or hazardous waste by
regulations. (Learn the Basics of Hazardous Waste/ USEPA. Web. 3 April 2017)
Once the waste is determined by a generator that it is in facts by definition a solid. It
is then investigated to see whether the solid waste is a listed or characteristic hazard.
In the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), Congress mandated that the
EPA must regulate hazardous waste disposal in the United States. (Hazardous Waste
Disposal.....) Now there are two categories that hazardous waste is divided into.
These are listed and characteristic. Characteristic waste refers only to hazardous
materials that possess one or more of these harmful features: ignitability, reactivity,
corrosivity and toxicity. (Hazardous Waste...web) Listed waste comes from non

George Washington And The President Of The United States
Since the start of the United States, there have been politics. Starting with those in
charge of the new colonies, leaders of battles for land all the way to the leaders of
the revolution, politics have played a role in American life. Once the revolution
occurred and it was determined that George Washington would be the nation s first
president, a new track for politics was formed. It was from this line of presidents
and official democratic government that political parties, ways of voting, and the
various branches of our government were created. Since the time of the Federalists
and Democratic Republicans, many things have changed about the way that
elections work, how candidates are elected, what the candidates are expected to do
and how to act, and the civility of elections. However, one thing has remained the
same, in order to be elected into office as the President of the United States, one
must find a way to appease voters. In the most recent presidential campaign between
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, many new election tactics were presented
especially the use of social media, reality entertainment personalities and trying to
gain millennial support by relating to them in various ways. As the use of this new
tactic went up, the extremities in other aspects of the campaign only increased as
well. There became an almost lack of seriousness and rise in hate and bullying,
especially in advertising pro their campaign and against their candidates. Political

  • 2. Interview With Film Composer Chris Hajian Of The Infiltrator Interview with Film Composer Chris Hajian of The Infiltrator Pablo Escobar has been a popular topic lately. From Narcos on Netflix to Andrea s Di Stefano s underrated Escobar Paradise Lost, cocaine and greed can t get anymore bombastic in the entertainment zeitgeist. Yet with director Brad Furman s (The Lincoln Lawyer), The Infiltrator, the infamous Columbian drug load plays only second to agent Robert Mazur (played wonderfully by Bryan Cranston), the man who brings down the world s largest cartel. It s a refreshing angle on the subject matter with stellar performances (most notably John Leguizamo s radically different and award worthy role) to match. Yet, one of the biggest highlights of the filmis that of film composer Chris Hajian s (First Position, Yonkers Joe, The Take) score. Hajian manages to keep the film s music subtle, but with gravitas to capture the heaviness of the situation at bay. It plays to the trend of synth percussion, a popular sensation seen everywhere from Cliff Martinez s score in Drive to Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of Stranger Things. Sure it plays to the trend, but doesn t get lost in it. Hijian has the ear to work with modern sound, but keeps disciplined by incorporating instrumental sounds that grounds the film, but at the same time keeps it constantly moving. Check out track I m Being Followed, to hear the complexity of modern synth, layered with piano. Recently I got the chance to sit down and interview Chris Hajian. Read below to
  • 3. Victorian Women In Bram Stoker s Dracula Just like the saying, behind every man is a woman, behind the main action of a male group s quest to save the souls of society from an evil count in Bram Stoker s gothic fiction, there is a message about the power and morality of Victorian women. Throughout the novel, Stoker makes a commentary about society s move toward the new womanand illustrates his frame of mind through the female characters and the way that the plot develops in some of their personal story lines. His message to the readers being; a woman straying from traditional expectations causes society to see her in a negative light. A Victorian woman was supposed to be modest and pure, never even acknowledging the existence of her undergarments because it would draw attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The depiction of strong, independent, women with negative connotations is a problem that occurs even today in are countless movies , television shows, and books in which powerful or successful female characters characters are depicted as domineering, bossy, and catty. This proves to be a problem because sometimes in order to not come across as evil or nontraditional as in the Victorian female case, or catty and malicious in the more modern case, women feel constricted as to what they can say and do. They sometimes feel unable speak up against a group for what they think or believe in, they do not take the actions that they think they should, and they do not become the leaders they could be and they end up squandering their potential to bring about change. There is still a societal expectation for women to be passive and to just sit on the sidelines as men continue to lead in the homes, the businesses, and the countries and it will take more nontraditional, bossy, new women who do not care if others see her having and using her power as a negative trait to get rid those
  • 4. The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Essay The Development of Japanese Manga and Anime Manga is a Japanese word that is generally used to refer to comics or cartoons while Anime is a term used to refer to animation, also originating from Japan. The origin of manga can be traced to the 18th century. The word was used for the first time in 1798 in Japan to describe Shiji no yukikai, a picture book. The term resurfaced again in 1814 when it was used as the title of books written by Akinwai Minwa; Hokusai Mangaand Manga Hyakujo. These books contained drawings that had been made by Hokusai, a famous Japanese woodlock print artist. The above facts dispel and clarify the popularised myth that manga was invented by Hokusai (McCloud 79). Schodta (152) explains that one millennium prior... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some people deny that kibyoshi is a direct ancestor of modern Japanese manga. However, it became extinct by mid 19th century. The development of modern Japanese manga became more pronounced around the mid 20th century, and many art critics state that this is the actual period of the development of modern Japanese manga. Wood (1) explains that in the period 1945 1952, the US occupied Japan. During this time, there was an explosion of artistic creativity and the US troops introduced to Japan American cartoons and comics like Mickey Mouse, Bambi and Betty Boop. These inspired the Japanese artists to come up with their own style of comics. Osamu Tezuka, a Japanese cartoonist invented the large distinctive eyes that are prominent in both anime and manga. For this reason, Tezuka is also referred to as the Godfather of anime and the God of manga. Tezuka s popular works called Mighty Atom which was produced as a series called Astro Boy became the first Japanese TV series to embody the aesthetic characteristic that came to be known as anime worldwide. The TV series Astro Boy was broadcast in Japan for the first time in 1963(Schodtb 109). According to Schodtb (111), Tezuka s manga was quite different from other manga producers that came before him. For example, most prior manga were produced in the style of a stage play and from a two dimensional perspective. In addition, interactions of

Psalm 121 seems to speak of the tough times in our lives and how we can still find peace. God does not live in some celestial tower, far away from the world Godcreated. God cares for all the people and all of creation. God cares for us amidst all the twists and turns of life s journey. It is that conviction which inspires Psalm 121, a Psalm I read again to Cindy in the last week of her life. Psalm 121 is sometimes called „the traveler‟s Psalm‟. It was a psalm sung by pilgrims as they made their annual journey to Jerusalem. It expressed their faith in God, but also reflected the unease they felt about travel. I look to the mountains; where will my help come from? (v.1). Mountains may be beautiful, but they can also be dangerous. Mountains are places where people lose their lives. No, the hills are not the place from which our help comes rather they are the place where help is needed. Here in this Psalm, the hills or mountains represented the perils of the journey, for it was in the ravines and gorges of the mountain ranges that wild beasts and robbers hid. As the pilgrims looked to the mountain ranges they had to cross if they were to reach Jerusalem, they were filled with foreboding and wondered from where their help would come. It is in this situation that the Psalmist declares: My help will come from the Lord, the

Molecular Dynamics Based Investigation to Study the Effect of Pair of Stone Thrower Wales Defects on the Mechanical Response and Failure Morphology of Graphene G. Rajasekaran, Rajesh Kumar and Avinash Parashar Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee 247667, India ABSTRACT Structural defects are inevitable in graphene due to its production techniques as well as chemical and heat treatment processes. These defects in graphene are introduced either during the production process or deliberately by us to tailor its properties. In this article, the effect of nearest neighbour distance and angular orientation between Stone Thrower Wales defects (STW 2) on the mechanical properties and failure morphology of graphene was investigated in the frame of molecular dynamics. Mechanical properties and failure morphology of graphene was predicted to be the function of angular orientation between STW 2 defects, when the nearest neighbour distance was in the range of 10 Г…. Graphene sheet containing pair of STW 2 defects had shown an overall increase of 8% and 11% in fracture strength and strain respectively as compared to graphene with single STW 2 defect. This study also characterised the failure morphology of graphene sheet with single and pair of STW 2 defects in the armchair direction. Keywords: Graphene, Stone Thrower Wales defect, nearest neighbour distance, angular orientation, mechanical properties, Young s modulus and

That is how Professor Randy Pausch, from Carnegie Mellon, began his last lecture, a speech entitled Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams while in fact he was dying of Pancreatic Cancer. He knew he only had months left to live and put together this last lecture to read to his students. His lecture focuses in on points such as the importance of: making sincere apologies, not whining, being gracious and being humble. Randy Pausch uses Pathos to get his point across to his audience. I am dying soon, and I am choosing to have fun today, tomorrow, and every other day I have left . He talks about his kids and how they are the ones he wrote this last lecture for, saying I only wrote this lecture for three people, and when they re older, they ll watch it . Pausch also talks about his family, and love for his wife. By talking about his family and the love he has for them it appeals to people s emotions. The reader is able to put themselves in the shoes of either his wife, his child, or his own shoes because everyone knows what it is like to have someone that you care deeply about. The thought of losing that person can really strike a chord and overall creates pathos. Pathos is also established in the introduction of his speech when Pausch is explaining his cancer and how he only has months to live, which is easy for many people to relate to considering there are numerous people who have received the news that their loved one has a short period of time to

The main threat to the nesting is the Great Horn Owl. The owl begins its mating and nesting before the hawk, so this is why the hawk defends its old nesting. The hawk and owl will destroy both each other s nests and eggs. The owls are unable to build their own nest so they try to steal the hawks. • 9. Evaluate Gm s Currency Hedging Policies Essay 3. Evaluate GM s currency hedging policies. [3 pages] {Gavin} {Ryan} The issue here may lie with the 50% to 75% hedge as it is doubtful as to why GM does not hedge its receivables / payables by 100%. Perhaps the issue is related to high costs of using options and their receivables / payables run into huge amounts. Additionally, GM is not keen on committing to a forward because they have positive expectations about the future exchange rate and the forward would only serve to limit their possible gains. Inherency: Does the plan exist in the status quo (the way things are now), and what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However by paying a small premium for an option, GM would be able to preserve the upside of any exposure. This is because an option gives them the right to choose whether to exercise it or not upon maturity. Hence, if the CAD dollar weakens against the USD, GM s large Canadian assets and liabilities and payables owed to Canadian suppliers would weaken considerably. GM could then choose to exercise the option for a better exchange rate. Conversely, if the CAD dollar strengthens, then GM would choose not to exercise the option as their cash flows denominated in Canadian dollar is now worth more compared to the USD. The level of risk adverseness plays a huge role because GM may be inclined to hedge all exposure using a forward if they are highly risk adverse. On the other hand, GM may be willing to pay a premium for an option to ensure the still receive the upside if they are not so risk adverse. This links to expectations on future spot rates and how GM anticipates the CAD to fluctuate vis Г vis the USD in the coming months. If GM anticipates future spot rates of CAD/USD to weaken, it would prefer to buy a forward and the reverse holds true as well. After conduction an analysis, it shows that the fluctuations in exchange rate could cause a lot of trouble for GM. Hence, it reverts back to the issue of GM s expectations of the future spot exchange rate. From this, they can then determine which hedging method is more

Although It Is Well-Equipped With Modern Hotels, Arguably Although it is well equipped with modern hotels, arguably the most charming accommodations in Marrakech are to be found in its riads, such as the Riad Zayane. Riads are a traditional style of Moroccan home, named after the courtyard garden ( ryad in Arabic). Like many styles of urban architecture around the world, riads orient their windows inwards and around the central courtyard, presenting the outside world with solid walls. The result is the exclusion of the chaotic, noisy world of the streets of Marrakech, a virtue which is as relevant to modern Marrakech as it is to the city s medieval past. The hotel is located off a market street outside Bab Boutouil. People who love immersing themselves in the urban life of a developing world city will enjoy making the trip through the crowded hustle and bustle of the vegetable sellers, halal butchers and fishmongers, but for some visitors that transit will become tiring quickly. Furthermore, the Riad Zayane is a full 20 minute walk from the center of the Medina at the main square and the Koutoubia Mosque. Visitors have the choice of either making a 40 minute round trip in the heat and air pollution or haggling over a taxi every time they set out for the day or going out for meals. However, that drawback must be kept in perspective relative to the city. Only a few hotels are both comfortable and centrally placed, and for these visitors must pay a premium. Most Riads are set in locations like the Riad Zayane s or in even less convenient areas, while many of the modern hotels are situated outside the Medina entirely. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein , she uses the gothic horror genre to explore some of the concerns of her time relating to the use of science and technology and its impact on humanity. Similar concerns are also present in Ridley Scott s Bladerunner , a futuristic text which combines science fiction and film noir to present a bleak view of a future world overrun by technology and consumerism, but devoid of human emotion. While these long shots provide the settings for the overlapping genre s of science fiction and crime fiction, the extreme close up of the human eye with the city mirrored in the pupil gives the impressions of an omniscient and omnipotent being looking down over the city of Los Angeles like a god. At this stage, it is unclear whom this eye belongs to however Dr Tyrell s power and status becomes apparent to suggest he like Victor is man playing God with the creation of the replicants. The eye motif in this film ironically also symbolises his short sightedness when it comes to impact of science and technology on the human world. Many of these youth are from families that are female centered, they are not necessarily female dominated, because an aggressive male father figure can impact on the family s history, and more importantly on the child s psychosocial development. This parental male is perceived as the most powerful member of the family system, who gratifies his needs through the use of aggression and intimidation. Many of these youths have been physically abused by this male adult and also have witnessed their mothers and /or siblings being battered. If the male figure is no longer in the home, his presence survives in the form of fantasy or family mythology long after his departure. The Accident Investigation Of The Crash Background Following the in flight disintegration of the Kanishka, most of the aircraft came to rest on the ocean floor almost 7,000 feet below the surface. During the accident investigation that followed, the submerged wreckage was surveyed, photographed and videotaped, and pieces were recovered off the ocean floor. Floating wreckage was also recovered and examined. Each piece was given a unique number called a target . The RCMP returned to the crash site for two subsequent salvage operations in 1989 and 1991 during which further underwater video footage was captured and further wreckage recovered. Of the 465 targets observed on the ocean floor, 159 were positively identified as aircraft components or as coming from particular parts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The significance of this expert evidence lies primarily in their differing opinions regarding the location of the bomb that precipitated the destruction of the Kanishka. The Crown theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Professor Christopher Peel, is that it was located in Baggage Area 52, which contained the M. Singh bag. The defence theory, supported by the opinion evidence of Dr. Edward Trimble and Mr. Frank Taylor, is that it was located some five feet forward of that location in Baggage Area 51, containing luggage checked in at Toronto. A conclusion that the defence evidence raises a reasonable doubt with respect to the Crown s bomb location would fundamentally undermine its theory about the role of these accused in the alleged offences. Thus, while the distance between the two proposed bomb locations is remarkably small, its significance is great. They strew away from their subordinate occupations of mother and house keeper, and began to make decisions for themselves. It was a struggle for women to gain the support of society. Even today sexism still exists in comments like, You throw like a girl and many more. Society has greatly progressed through the plights of many niches, but still has a long way to go. Wodehouse once described a very loud sound as a sound like G. K. Chesterton falling on a sheet of tin. Chesterton once remarked to George Bernard Shaw, his friendly enemy in many a debate and exchanged essay, To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England. Shaw responded, To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it. Chesterton originally attended the Slade School of Art to become an illustrator, but he dropped out before receiving a degree. He certainly enjoyed drawing and did some excellent work in that area, but he soon turned his pen instead to another purpose: writing. Chesterton met with great success as a writer. He published well over a hundred works, including novels, articles, essays, short stories, and even published debates. Despite these successes, however, critics attack him ferociously and regularly. He has been described as annoying, tiresome, and simply a con artist looking for a laugh. His favorite rhetorical devices have been ridiculed as flippancy and insincere showmanship. If so many people dislike his writing so vehemently, it must be for good reason. But perhaps there is less a problem with Chesterton s writing, and more a problem with the people reading it. Perhaps they do not like it because they do not understand it or refuse to understand it. The nature of Chesterton himself and that of the arguments against

The western genre has specific codes and conventions that make it easy for an audience to recognise, such as; iconography (guns, horses, and typical cowboy costume), frontier towns, ranchers and homesteaders, gamblers, bandits, vast open lands and conquering virgin territory. Furthermore, westernfilms often include binary oppositions such as; the individual versus the community, civilisation versus the wilderness, nature versus culture, good versus bad etc. The filmShane incorporates all of these aspects well, making it a recognisable and successful western film. • 28. The Day Of Doom By Wigglesworth Everyone comes into the world as sinners, and God only saves the elect, the predestined chosen ones. Defining who the elect and who the sinners are is unclear; thus, Puritans live a moral life, constantly practicing religion, in hopes of being an elect. In The Day of Doom, Wigglesworth depicts the feebleness of earthly relations when in the face of God. Judgment Day clarifies the once ambiguous distinction between the elect and sinners, harshly dividing family members from each other. Wigglesworth s poem instills fear in Puritans to continue their religious practices (faith in Puritanbeliefs, read scripture, pray, etc.) so as not to fall into temptations, which would rid them of any chance to be an elect. Wigglesworth utilizes meter, rhyme, and biblical allusions to connect his audience, the Puritan community, with his version of Judgment Day, painting a picture of destruction due to the division of the elect and sinners. In stanzas 195 201 of The Day of Doom, the poet talks of parents, partners, children, and siblings being sentenced to Hell and the apathy shown at those moments. By including these relationships, Wigglesworth presents his image of God s wrath to those of all ages, creating a great fear of straying from the Puritan beliefs. The poem has a huge audience of the Puritan community, but the rhyme and meter of the poem are for the children s practice in religion. A huge problem in Puritanism is where the children stand in God s eyes. So parents had their

During this period, Shimano also began establishing production and marketing operations beyond the borders of Japan, a strategy to help shield the company from the recession that followed the Oil Shock of the 1970s, as well as to take advantage of favorable factor conditions and related and supporting industries in Singapore. Singapore was an ideal location because it shared Japan s cultural commitment to superior quality manufacturing. Although Shimano s structure remained aligned with the cultural values of Japan, and its domestic strategies leveraged them by aiming education at developing the Japanese market, the strength in this point of Porter s diamond was not enough to maintain Japan as an advantaged location. The advantages of these mechanisms seem to outweigh the disadvantages in the sense that these mechanisms are considerably cheaper than having to go through the process of litigation. Also there is the added bonus of the speed with which these settlements can be handled with. This is clearly a necessary factor for companies which require disputes to be handled speedily in relation to time constraints and budgetary considerations. The process of control offered to parties by these procedures is a significant factor to consider in relation to business owners and companies who are more accustomed to running their businesses than having their disputes being handled by the strict court process and discretion of a judge. The reasoning for the various stages that has been included in the Dispute Settlement Clause follows. 1.Negotiation Negotiation is a relatively informal process involving the discussion of some or all of the issues in a case with a view to resolving them on agreed terms. The process may be quite simple, or may involve substantial use of strategy and tactics. Negotiation

Several animal studies suggested that inhalation of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde has a negative consequence on the cardiovascular system, either directly or indirectly. Specifically, these studies showed that formaldehyde exposure altered the heart rate [PMID: 3735804], blood pressure [PMID: 418528], cardiac contractility [PMID: 2342227], cardiac oxidative stress and platelet count (PMID: 24040369). Formaldehyde inhalation also induced bradycardia in animals [PMID: 3735804], and this effect was found to be mediated by a sympathetic nerve activity (PMID: 3735804). Additionally, subacute and subchronic inhalation of formaldehyde was associated with cardiac oxidative stress, and consequently a cardic cells damage (PMID: 16716041). With regards to platelets, it was shown that the total platelet count significantly increased in mice exposed to formaldehyde gas for 2 weeks ( PMID: 24040369 ); the potential negative consequence of this effect should be considered in the context of the importance of platelets in maintaining hemostasis, and their role in thrombotic disorders. As for acetaldehyde, elevated blood pressure and heart rate were reported in animals following inhalation of variable doses, which could be due to its sympathomimetic effect (PMID: 5071036, PMID: 5681176). It is noteworthy that while the source(s) of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in these studies were not from e cigarette vapors, the concentrations used are
  • 40. A Comparison Of Sirens And The Little Mermaid Sirens and The Little Mermaid There is a universal ideology that suggests that each gender plays their specific, individualized roles in society: men acting as independent, powerful alpha males, and women being their dutiful submissives. Contemporary narratives depict women as such whereas mythology is rich with goddesses and other female figures who are brave and powerful warriors equal to men. So if mythology can be overflowed with stories about female leaders, how come contemporary narratives have derived from that viewpoint? Sirens in Greek Mythology are a perfect example of the derivation to the new idea of women in society: weak. By examining the myth of Sirens through a feminist critical lens, the question of whether society is concerned with the ways in which literature and other cultural productions reinforce or undermine the economic, political, social, and psychological oppression (Brizee Web) will be answered. The mythological legend of the Sirens highlights the superiority of these figures who could destroy by temptation through their melodic voices; modern interpretations of sirens as in Disney s The Little Mermaid (1989) reduce the feminine power of the siren to a contemporary stereotype of the powerless, dependent, subservient woman. Sirens in mythology are defined as beautiful, destructive creatures either half woman, half bird or half woman, half fish that obtain power by luring sailors to their deaths, causing their ships to crash on the reefs near

The sad reality is that no parent wants their teenager to down a handful of antidepressants everyday to fight anxiety or depression as stated in article Are We Over Medicating Our Children . Although that reality is frightening for people to deal with, many parents will agree that taking a few pills every day has improved their child s quality of life tremendously and has proven to be worth it in several aspects. Mary Sullivan is the mother of a sixteen year old boy who has been fighting depression for two years. In fact, approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild catbut it is a little more complicated than that. So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy Plants). Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax). The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

Starting with those in charge of the new colonies, leaders of battles for land all the way to the leaders of the revolution, politics have played a role in American life.
