Argumentative Essays Topics
Writing an essay on the topic "Argumentative Essays Topics" may seem deceptively simple at
first glance, given the abundance of potential subjects to explore. However, delving into the
intricacies of crafting a compelling argumentative essay can quickly reveal its inherent challenges.
Firstly, selecting a suitable topic demands careful consideration. It's not merely about picking any
argumentative theme; it involves finding one that is not only relevant and engaging but also
allows for a nuanced exploration of opposing viewpoints. This initial step can be time-consuming
and requires a keen understanding of current issues, societal debates, and potential areas of
contention.
Once a topic is chosen, the task of conducting thorough research follows. A well-founded
argument necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. This involves
scouring through academic journals, reputable sources, and various perspectives to gather the
necessary information to support and strengthen the essay's argument.
Constructing a coherent and persuasive thesis statement is another hurdle to overcome.
Articulating a stance that not only encapsulates the essence of the chosen topic but also leaves
room for a robust argument is a delicate balancing act. The clarity of the thesis sets the tone for
the entire essay and determines its effectiveness in conveying the intended message.
Furthermore, organizing the essay's structure in a logical and convincing manner requires a
strategic approach. Balancing the presentation of evidence, counterarguments, and a compelling
conclusion demands meticulous planning. Ensuring a smooth flow of ideas while maintaining a
persuasive tone is an art that requires honed writing skills and a deep understanding of rhetorical
techniques.
The revision process is equally crucial. Refining the essay for clarity, coherence, and
effectiveness involves multiple rounds of editing. This meticulous review aims to eliminate any
inconsistencies, strengthen arguments, and enhance the overall quality of the essay.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of argumentative essays demands more than just a
basic understanding of the subject matter. It requires adept research skills, critical thinking, and
the ability to articulate a well-structured argument. The process involves navigating the
complexities of topic selection, conducting extensive research, formulating a compelling thesis,
and meticulously refining the essay through multiple revisions.

Analysis Of Edith Wharton s House Of Mirth
From Gender Roles to Gender Goals
Edith Wharton s novel, House of Mirth, written in 1905 centers around Lily Bart, a
single woman in her late twenties, who is constantly struggling to maintain her status
in high society. Lily navigates herself through the upper class with a double
consciousness . This double consciousness enables her to recognize ...that [she] is at
the same time inside and outside the ideology of gender; and conscious of being so,
conscious of that twofold pull, of that division, that doubled vision (Carson 695).
Throughout the text she is constantly trying to balance a life of being a financially
independent woman or the New Woman Wharton and her contemporaries added to
the female archetypes, but then having to abide in the gender roles that society had
established. The limits of her sex contribute to her inevitable failure by the end of
the novel but the knowledge of them aided her deconstructing her role as a woman.
This double consciousness is an advantage since she is able to manipulate the upper
class, but the facade she tries to maintain in order to achieve her goal financial
stability contributes to her falling victim to the society she tried to configure to her
own desires. In this paper, I will argue how the double consciousness of Lily Bart
deconstructed the tradition woman to assert the New Woman .
I.
It makes her look like the real Lily the Lily I know (Wharton 166). This seems to be a
never ceasing topic of who the real Lily
John F Kennedy s Inaugural Address
John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, into
one of the wealthiest families in the United States. Universally called quot;JFK, quot;
he became a millionaire at the age of 21 when his father gave him one million dollars,
but politics and sports were of much more importance to him. He loved touch
football, tennis, golf, sailing, and swimming. JFK attended Princeton University and
Harvard, graduating from there cum laude. He attended Stanford University business
schoolbefore serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a naval hero during World War 11
when his PT boat was cut in half and he helped to save the lives of his crew.
Returning after the war, he was elected to Congress in 1946 and to the Senate in

At his inauguration, Kennedy said, quot;Ask not what your country can do for you
ask what you can do for your country, quot; perhaps the most famous single quote
from an inaugural address. Among many notables in his cabinet, JFK appointed his
brother Bobby as Attorney General.
From Eisenhower, Kennedy inherited the quot;Cold War quot; with the Soviet
Union. In 1962, when American spy planes discovered Soviet nuclear missiles in
Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S., many thought the nation was at the brink of war.
Kennedy imposed a blockade of Cuba but promised not to invade, and the Soviet
Union dismantled the missile bases, resolving the confrontation. (Upon seeing
photos of the dismantling, Adlai Stevenson, now Kennedy s Ambassador to the
U.N, famously said, quot;We are eyeball to eyeball with the enemy, and I think the
other fellow just blinked. quot;) Kennedy also promised to send Americans to the
moon and bring them back safely before the end of the decade, and although he did
not live to see it, his promise came true. He called his program to make things better
for Americans quot;the New Frontier quot; and he started the Peace Corps.
When the Kennedy family lived in the White House, a managerie of animals
abounded on the premises, and Mrs. Kennedy erected a play yard for them under the
trees near the President s West Wing office. They had rabbits, lambs, ponies and
guinea pigs. A Welsh Terrier named Charlie was
Abuse In High School
Ask any elementary school student what their favorite part of the school day is,
and for the most part, the answer will be recess. Being able to run and play freely
on the playground, all the while escaping the four, confining walls of the classroom,
is like a breath of fresh air. According to the playground rules, on the playground,
imagination is the name of the game. Upon stepping into the magnificent outdoors,
school kids can take a leave of absencefrom the real world and vacation in La La
Land. As they get older, elementary students may instead opt to jump rope, play
kickball, simply enjoy the outdoors, or the like. Not only does this midday hiatus
provide young students with an outlet for their energy and an opportunity to leavetheir

After their recess, teens and their teachers can return to class feeling refreshed and
hopefully prepared to take on the rest of their work day. In a world where getting the
most out of one s education is a key element to success, the satisfaction and
productivity of each student should be of highest concern. Moreover, encouraging
students to rejuvenate their energy stores, is one, crucial way of exhibiting care to
their psychological well being.
While generally associated with children, play performs a significant role in the
welfare of all individuals, young and old. Mr. Rogers once said, Play is often talked
about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious
learning. With this in mind, opening an outdoor lounge on the Northeast Range
School campus would promote the contentedness and learning capacity of the
students and faculty there. Is this not a part of the role bestowed upon the education
Case Report of Swap Spreads, 2010 Essay example
The article Swap Spreads:2010 talks about a financial abnormity that the 30 year
swap spread has kept negative since late 2008 for a long time, and an arbitrage
opportunity based on the bet that LIBOR would never fall below equivalent
government bond interest rates.
Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the
case? Why or why not?
The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and
receive floating interest payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take
rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. In practice, the 3 month T bills are
replaced by taking a rolling short position of repos daily and entering into a 3 month

Finally, although the article says that the LIBOR OIS spread is little changed, it
cannot guarantee that the spread won t be volatile in the 30 year time.
To sum up, the trade is feasible, but there are still some things that need to be
concerned.
Question2: What would be the internal rate of return on the trade over 30 years?
Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not
change very much, the notional amount is 1 billion US dollars.
The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120.
Payment at time 0 is 1.5%*1,000,000,000= 15,000,000
Payment at each delivery time =[(3.875% 3.445%)+0.0025]*(1
/4)*1,000,000,000=1,700,000
Thus, the IRR=11.33%*4=45.32%
Question3: Why do you think the 30 year swap spreads are negative? What type of
financial institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates?
There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are
more risky. The swap spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and
governmental bonds rate of the same horizon. So it can also been seen as the
premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. Investors now think
sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second, liquidity is very
low in the long end of swaps. The low liquidity is mainly driven by hedging of exotic
derivatives.

John Waters Use Of Taboos In Cult Film
Taboo as defined the dictionary is: banned on grounds of morality or taste. Taboo
topics in cult film are often dealt with in an excessive manner. These taboos can
include ideas about sex, family, and gender roles among others. They showcase these
taboos in an excess manner. The following films have not only discussions of taboo
subjects but depict taboo acts. The films Eraserhead and Pink Flamingos feature
excess and the liberal discussion of taboos. Eraserhead represents a taboo of
traditional family life. The way in which everyone treats the baby is a taboo against
the traditional family views of the time. The filmappears to want you to be appalled
by the actions of Henry towards the baby . Traditionally there would be the husband...

John Waters intends to break almost every possible taboo in this film. Waters s
creatures were a mГ©nage of corpulent transvestites, blue haired flashers, egg
sucking hags, and chicken fucking adolescents, they write in John Waters Presents
The Filthiest People Alive from Midnight Movies of the characters in the film
(137). This statement alone, about the characters, is enough to know this film has
crossed some lines. There is excess in the amount of taboos presented in this film
including bestiality, incest, cannibalism, and rape among many others. Some
social taboos broken are worse than others. While Divine holds the title of filthiest
person alive it is her family that allows her to reach that title. It is more so her son,
Cracker that does or is involved in the worse taboo actions. His act of bestiality
with his chickens is much worse than Divine smuggling raw meat between her legs
or running a jogger off the road. Her most taboo act would be the incestuous act of
fellating her son, second to that being her murder of the Marble couple. The Marble
couple on the other hand are predators. Between their kidnapping of girls in order to
impregnate them and sell their babies and his flashing of his genitals to unsuspecting
girls on the street, these two at first glance seem to be worse and more vile than

Cost Of Health
Cost of Health Without the proper nutritional education and meals from their homes,
children are undoubtedly going to become unhealthy and presumably overweight.
Both the stereotypes and physical side effects of being obese can affect a child
greatly. Children from poor families are at risk of falling victim to the epidemic that
is childhood obesity because of a lack of access to healthy foods. Unfortunately, fresh,
nutritional foodis sold for astronomical prices compared to prepackaged, processed
food. If a child s family is of low socioeconomic status, it is only logical that they are
the one s who most often suffer from obesity. In this section, not only will I discuss
the healthimplications this places on a child s life, but the psychological... Show more

The emotions and hormones that naturally run through children as they reach upper
elementary through high school are enough to bring doubt and a lack of self
confidence, but the stereotyping and treatment of those who are overweight is
another obstacle that is often too difficult to overcome. As Morimoto (2008) states
...fat people are generally perceived as less intelligent, incompetent, lazy, socially
unpleasant, and emotionally unstable (p.30). These ill harbored feelings of fat as a
...great social, economic, and moral evil (Morimoto, 2008, p. 30) cause the low
socioeconomic students who are overweight due to the previously discussed reasons
to be thought of as lesser by themselves and their peers. Obese students are often
treated as social outcasts because of the stereotypes surrounding their weight. Not
only does the lack of friends affect their overall happiness, but there is also a great
chance of the children viewing themselves through the same lens their peers were
taught to use. The self fulfilling prophecy of being thought of as less capable
therefore acting that way would

An Investigation of Software Piracy in China Software Piracy Lacks Ethical Merit
Well, sir, from the sound of it, you ve got yourself some pirated software.
I m afraid there s nothing we can do to help you. 1. BSA Statistics 30
1. Introduction
Software piracy is a rampant global problem, according to the Seventh Annual Global
Software Piracy Study by the Business Software Alliance. The rate of software
piracy varies significantly across the world, though no country is without it. Vietnam
was rated the largest trouble spot in 2001 with a whopping 94% piracy rate, with
China and Indonesia not very far behind (at 92% and 88% respectively).
During the early days of personal computing, software piracy was a small problem ...

This is a common form of software piracy, but is easy to identify and combat.
В· Industrial Piracy: This occurs when individuals or groups duplicate and distribute
software on a large scale for profit.
В· Corporate Piracy: Company X purchases one copy of a piece of software, installs
it on its network, and then allows employees to put it on any computer.
В· Reseller Piracy: ABC Computers sells computers with illegal copies of software
pre loaded onto them.
В· Home Piracy: The original type of software piracy, in which people trade software
directly with friends, over bulletin boards or over the web. This form of piracy is
very difficult to detect.
В· The Asian/Pacific regions lead the world in billions of dollars lost due to software
piracy. 2.Legal Discourse on Software Piracy

In accordance with its accession to the World Trade Organization in 1999, and to
comply with its obligations on copyright protection under the TRIPS Agreement,
China has amended its 1991 Copyright Law. In this article the authors set out the 60
provisions of the Chinese law, consolidating the substantial amendments made under
the legislation passed in 2001. Out of the 60 provisions, few remain as they were
only 13 in all. The authors conclude that future evaluations of the level of copyright
protection in the PRC should take into consideration where the
The Defense Of Homeland Security
An incredibly long 13 years has passes since the Department of Homeland Security
has stood up and began the ultra important job of protecting the United States from
both state and non state sponsored threats. There have also been great strides made
to protect the U.S. from insider threats as well. The monumental effort it took to
synergize all 22 agencies with inherently different jobs into one living breathing unit
took significant patience and forethought. There has been and will continue to be
heated debates on protecting civil liberties while guarding citizens from both
terrorists and natural disasters. Can there be a balance of maintaining civil liberties
and securing the airports, borders, and cities from another 9/11? Has there been a
significant improvement in how different agencies break through the bureaucracy
and come together to share information? There has indeed been a substantial
improvement to how 22 agencies across the government provide security for all
Americans. In response to the attacks on 9/11 the PATRIOT act was passed.
(Congressional Digest 2004, 258) The PATRIOT act provided, in many ways like the
creation of Department of Homeland Security (DHS), sweeping changes across the
government. The PATRIOT act allowed law enforcement unprecedented latitude to
identify, prosecute, and ultimately stop terrorists from harming Americans. There
were three broad areas where the act gave the agencies tracking terrorists more help.

The Extent to Which the Principle of Sustainability Guides Land Use Policy
Development
The idea of developing in such a way that the present can meet their needs without
future generations needs being compromised is not a new one. It has been practiced
and continues to be practiced by many groups of people across the world. For
example, this principle is embedded in Aboriginal beliefs that they come from the
land, and must return to the land and so must be custodians to the land. The
Brundtland Commission, chaired by the Norwegian prime minister, brought the
concept to the foreground where the famous definition of sustainability was given.

Limits to Growth [2] is a book that tried to explain how economic expansion must
soon come to an end , because of environmental limits. Our Common Future , the
sequel to this book, starts from essentially similar understandings of the nature of the
economy environment interconnections, but draws the conclusion that growth can
and should continue, however, this growth would take a different form from past
growth, and should be sustainable.
By the start of the 1990s about three quarters of councils in England, Scotland and
Wales already had a green plan of some kind in effect or in preparation, some
explicitly recognising the need to extend to global issues such as global warming as
well as local matters. What was new in the 1990s was the degree to which central
government began to give formal support to sustainable development, and to land use
planning as a means of achieving it, in some cases producing the relevant policies and
legislation in response to international commitments. Sustainability is now one of the
UK governments key objectives. A commitment to national sustainability plans was a
key component of the UNCED agreements in 1992,
Pornography, Erotica, and Nude Art – There Is a
Difference...
Pornography is a subject that has always been argued and stirs up controversy
almost anywhere it may arise. There are people who are against it, and would like
to ban all pornography for the benefit of everyone, while there are those who defend
it, claiming it is part of their guaranteed free speech, to express themselves in a
manner of their choosing. With the issue of pornographybeing debated and spoken of,
one major mistake people make is that they look at pornography according to their
own views. Different types of people look at pornography differently, and therefore
create their own definition of pornography in their minds. Usually, pornography tends
to be mistaken with nude art and erotica, so some people consider erotic as... Show

So the students were then allowed to look at the subject s breasts and ponder the
importance of nude art as they made replicas of the woman in a graceful, artistic,
position. The students probably submitted a signed note from their parents to be
involved in the sculpture session, because I do not know of any public school that
would allow its students to take part in this type of class during school hours, on
school grounds. The woman s nudity is considered as art because she is posing for
an art class, which was allowed by a public school, although I highly do not think
that it would actually happen. Nude art s purpose is to portray the human body as an
art form, and not an object of sexuality or arousal.
Both pornography and erotica have the main purpose to sexually stimulate people,
but pornography does not show the emotional connection between the individuals
involved in the sexual acts, while erotica does. Erotica is just like nude art, except
that erotica possesses no artistic value, and art does contain an artistic value that
is accepted by everyone. There is a form of art called erotic art that I guess is a
mixture of erotica and nude art. But if guidelines were to be set by the government,
art forms that could be on the borderline of erotic art could be easier to distinguish.
Pornography is not classified as nude art at all, and nude art is not pornography.
Pornography just has the sole
Identifying Requirements For High Level Policy Makers
Phase One Identifying Requirements
1.High level policy makers are not only concerned with intelligence; they are
constantly concerned with reelection. A policy maker who is identifying
requirements could decide to focus resources on an issue that is less vital to the
nation s security in order to obtain information that will get them reelected. High
level threats could be pushed to the side in order to address an issue that is not
necessarily as vital but is a hot topic in news media, and public opinion. This would
be followed down by the intelligence community and the more dangerous area or
individual threat could be left unmonitored.
2.Often briefings and communication between high level officials and analysts are
hectic times and communication of requirements could not be communicated clearly.
A policy maker giving feedback on collection objectives or asking questions could
be perceived by the intelligence official as requesting more information when really
that policy maker has enough information to make a decision. This is an issue when
two people come from different backgrounds and use different phrasing, objectives
could be easily misunderstood. Time and resources would then be wasted to gather
intelligence on issues that are no longer relevant.
3.Officials in the intelligence community often faced with new policy makers or
those with differing views from those in the intelligence community could decide to
ignore or alter requirements to suit their own

which American comfort foods the new Canadian market will purchase and which
should be eliminated from our Canadian menu. We are at an advantage already; it
has been reported that 88 percent of Canadians have recently eaten seafood. Fish and
seafood is also one of the largest food sectors that are exported by Canada. We will be
able to use the abundance of that food to our financial advantage. We will be able
to see slightly lower raw products cost, since seafood is known to fluctuate wildly
throughout the year, as well as being reassured that Canadians will want to eat the
food that we are selling in our restaurant. The fact that one of canada s most valued
exports includes: lobster, snow queen crab, farmed Atlantic salmon and shrimp, is
a happy bonus to our bottom line. We should be able to buy directly from local
fisheries. That will not only give us a more positive image with our new Canadian
market, but we will be able to advertise that we use fresh locally sourced
Battered Woman Syndrome Research Paper
Battered Woman Syndrome has been recognized as a subcategory of post traumatic
stress disorder (Walker, 2009). All women who have been battered do not meet all of
the criteria in the DSM V for post traumatic stress disorder but many of them do
(Walker, 2009). It is also important to note that women who suffer from Battered
Woman Syndrome may suffer from other mental health conditions. Treatment should
be tailored to fit the unique needs of the battered woman. However, according to
Walker (2009) treatment of post traumatic stress disorder and Battered Woman
Syndrome may include a combination of feminist and trauma therapy. Feminist
therapy helps the victim understand the situational factors that are out of her control
which may motivate her to accept and change the factors that she can control

For example, suing an abuser for financial resources after filing for divorce may be
an empowering action in the midst of such stressful legal action (Walker, 2009). On
the other hand, trauma therapy helps the victim better understand her psychological
symptoms that come from her exposure to trauma (Walker, 2009).Distinctive trauma
triggers include the memory of the abusers face, the sound of his voice, and even the
batterers scent during the abuse (Walker, 2009). The sensitivity to these triggers can
interfere with new relationships and many times never fully go away (Walker, 2009).
It is imperative to empower these victims of trauma to strive for change but it is
equally important to be able to explain how the abuse and fear triggers desperation in
the victim as mental health professionals. Documenting the clients comments about
the abuse and the fear of her abuser may help mental health professionals better

The Human Auditory System For Learning New Languages
Young minds adapt to learning new languages more easily than developed minds.
When you are young you don t understand where the language comes from you, you
simply imitate the sounds and words that you hear being spoken. When a baby first
realizes they have a voice they making nonsensical noises constantly. As they begin to
feel comfortable they start repeating after words they hear usually beginning with
mommy , daddy and no . While this initial speaking usually happens around thirteen
to fourteen months, a baby can begin learning their languageskills before they are
born, The human auditory system is functional from the third trimester on, and the
loudest thing an in utero baby hears is its mother s voice, speaking whatever language
or languages she knows. Those sounds, with their characteristic rhythms and
phonemes, are poured straight into the baby s brain and become comfortingly
familiar (Klugger).
You might think that having a child learn two languages at once is too difficult for
their young brains to comprehend. I agree that learning two languages at once is
quite difficult. Studies have shown that is it easier to learn two languages when you
are younger compared to when you are older. At Spring Lane Elementary School in
Utah the children take half of their classes in English and the other half of their
classes in Chinese. Their progress has been something to be noted. They made steady
progress through the year, Ridge says. We started school

A Reflection On Classroom Management In Schools
Part II: Reflection 1 Module 2 Classroom Management In many classrooms,
especially from schools serving low socio economic communities, teachers spend
considerable part of their class time and energy to deal with behaviour related
issues. Behaviour needs to be dealt with appropriately, before and after its
occurrence. It is always preferable to prevent behaviour from occurring, to applying
strategies to deal with an already occurred behaviour. Prevention can minimise, if
it cannot eliminate. A rich assortment of approaches to apply prevention are widely
published that are referred in the remaining paragraphs many of which are

classrooms are characterised by student engagement on academic tasks and respect
for the contributions of all students irrespective of their ability (Fields, 2006).
Students will be motivated to behave appropriately when discipline is based on
mutual respect, so students should be actively involved in the development of their
classroom s Code of Conduct . As Rogers (2008) recommends, teacher should lead
the discussions to set classroom rules based around: (a) the key rights to respect of
person, property, place, space, feelings; (b) the right to learn without undue, unfair
distraction or disruption; and (c) the right to feel safe psychologically and physically.

Scientist believe editing embryos can boost the understanding of why in vitro

answer why some women lose their babies before term using these embryos.

The Analytical Characteristics Of A Brown Rat
What does a brown rat look like? The brown rat (rattus norvegicus) is a small
brown rodent that has bilateral symmetry which means it can be divided into
halves. A full grown brown rat can be up to 10 inches long. It usually weighs 8.1
ounces. Brown rats are different than other rats because the top of their head is
slanted, like a triangle, and their tail is shorter than their body. Brown rats have
brown fur. Their stomachs are lighter brown or gray. Where does a Brown Rat
live? The brown rat lives on land. They like to live in tall grasses so they can live in
the savannah, grassland, rainforest and deciduous forest. They can live in almost any
climate except where it gets below freezing for long periods of time. Burrowing
COPD Research Paper
What is COPD?
COPD is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is an advanced heart disease that
makes it hard to breathe. Advanced means the disease get worse over the time.
COPD affect the lungs, the air that you breathe goes down your windpipe into tubes
in your lungs called bronchial tubes or airway. This airways and air sacs are elastic,
when you breathe in; each air sac fills up with air like a small balloon and when you
breathe out, the air sacs collapse and the air goes out. The air you breathe in is
oxygen and the air you breathe out is carbon dioxide. In COPD, less air flows in and
out of the airways because of one or more of the following reasons:
The airways and air sacs had lost their elasticity.

The Roman and U.S. Military
The Roman Republic military was one of the first well organized military of all
time. Because of this, most succeeding militaries follow their example by adopting
and adapting some of the same characteristics. The Roman and U.S. military are from
different eras, but still share similar characteristics as well as vast modernized
differences that have established the U.S. militaryas efficient and organized.
Separating a military into unique specialized forces increases efficiency and the
Romans knew that. The Roman legions consisted of: 10 cohorts to one legion, six
centuries to one cohort, 10 tents to one cohort, eight soldiers to one tent, 120 cavalry
(Lloyd, 2013). The Roman formation was the triplex acies, which was the hastati,...

The U.S. military uniforms are completely different from the Roman Republic;
nothing is the same except for the use of a helmet. Warfare has changed since the
ancient times and with that change, what soldiers wear for protection had to
change as well. The consistency of the same soldier is to maintain experienced
soldiers. Constantly training new soldiers is a waste of time and money. Nations
worldwide for every era understood the concept of a time in which soldiers must
serve in the military. In the Roman Republic, it changed throughout the years. At
first soldiers had to stay for six years with ten years nonconsecutive. Later it was
changed to twenty years, but after the sixteenth year, the soldier was considered a
veteran. The final change was twenty years with an additional five years as a
veteran (Southern, 2006). Even though the Romans were very strict on the
soldiers, the army was superior to any other nation because of this consistency in
soldiers. The U.S. military is vastly different with their length of service. Citizens
can be in the military for active or inactive duty, they can also be in the reserves
where they would only be deployed if necessary. Soldiers can also have contracts
depending on the branch for two, four, six, or eight years. Soldiers can also do
tours of duty for a length of time. There is also the possibility of having a long time
career in the military. The U.S. military has a larger span of options to choose from

Hektor In The Iliad Essay
In Homer s The Iliad, the Trojan prince Hektor holds two important roles: the
Trojan warrior and the protector of Troy. Hektor, as the Trojan warrior values the
pursuit of glory on the battlefield and immortality as stories of his life would be told
after his death. Meanwhile, Hektor, as the protector of Troy, values the
responsibilities he holds towards his family and countrymen. These two roles hold
different values that vie against one another for Hektor s actions. It is apparent
throughout the poem that Hektor faces an internal conflict between the two sets of
values; however, he eventually concedes to his yearn to be immortalized, leading
him to forego his duties to Troy and pursue a death on the battlefield at the hands of
Achilles.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The role of the warrior pushes Hektor to fight and potentially die for glory while
the role of the protector of Troy urges Hektor to stay within the wall of Troy with

the former half of the poem; however he begins to forego his responsibilities as the
protector of Troy in pursuit of his own glory in the latter half as he grew
Cato s Analysis
In addition to training and self control, Rome was suggested to value discipline in
education. Children, specifically boys, were expected to be well schooled and
regiments, physically and mentally. Cato was spoken to have been his son s
reading teacher, tutor, and athletic trainer, forcing his son to fight and brave the
extremes of nature (Plutarch 411). As Rome s military vigor was seen as important
to the strength of the empire, Plutarch hints that it was crucial for children to be
disciplined into great fighters. Cato s attention to his son s education had appeared
to be successful in Plutarch s eyes, as Cato s son grew into a formidable soldier
despite his frail body (412). Education was fundamental to Romans in order to
practice discipline

A decade of governmental planning and privatization of prisons has born what is
known as the harshest immigration law in history. Astonishingly, this law wasn t
formed by our Federal Government, but by the Arizona State Senate in hopes of
curtailing the ever growing population of illegal immigrants who are smuggled into
the United States, come legally and overstay their visa, or come in hope of a better

lead to atrocity surrounding the initiation of a long list of Arizona immigrationlaws.
Secondly, the paper will provide a background on past policies that may have relation

Condumetric and Gravemetric Lab Report Essay
Conductimetric Titration and Gravimetric Determination of a Precipitate
Objective:
* Measure the conductivity of the reaction between sulfuric acid and barium
hydroxide * use conductivity values to determine equivalence point * measure mass
of a product to determine equivalence point gravimetrically * calculate molar
concentration of barium hydroxide solution
Procedure:
* First, combine 10.0 mL of the Ba(OH)2 solution with 50 mL of distilled water.
Then, measure out 60 mL of 0.100 M H2SO4. Set up a conductivity probe and open
programs by connecting to logger pro. After that, start to titrate with increments of
1.0 mL. Keep titrating with smaller increments until it is pretty close to the 100
microsiemens/cm mark. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reactant ions reacted and decreased as more product formed. By measuring the
conductivity throughout, the equivalence point was determined. With the equivalence
point and the stoichiometric relationship, the molarity of barium hydroxide can be
determined. Another way to calculate the molar concentration of barium hydroxide
would be to calculate the number of moles of the insoluble barium sulfate by
gravimetric determination.
Data Analysis: 1. 7.6 10 4 mol H2SO4 2. 0.076 M Ba(OH)2 3. 0.0008351 mol
BaSO4 4. 0.0835 M Ba(OH)2 5. Equivalence Point: 24% error, Gravimetric
determination: 17% error. The gravimetric determination was more accurate because
an exact amount of precipitate was formed.
Conclusion:
In this lab an attempt was made to determine the concentration of a Ba(OH)2
solution by using the conductimetrically determined equivalence point of the
reaction between Ba(OH)2 and H2SO4 and by gravimetric determination. The
molarity using the equivalence point was determined to be 0.076 M, with a
percent error of 24% (actual value was 0.100 M). The molarity using gravimetric
determination was 0.0835, an error of 17%. One possible error is the presence of
bubbles in the buret. Bubbles would have caused the buret reading to be too high,
resulting in a larger equivalence point. Another possible error deals with the colloidal
nature of barium hydroxide due to its relatively low solubility. The colloidal barium
hydroxide would make it
The Blind Side Symbolic Interactionism Analysis
Symbolic Interactionism Perspective In The Blind Side, Michael was raised in the
projects of Memphis, Tennessee. One evening after a basketball game Leigh Anne
Touhy notices Michael walking down the road, shivering in the cold. After having
her husband stop the car to speak to him, she had learned Michael had planned to
sleep at the school gym after everyone else had left. Leigh Anne offered Michael a
warm place to sleep at her and her family s home. This moment between these two
was Michael s first real feeling of family. This sparked the relationship that would
give him a reason to keep living and gave him something to live for. Leigh Anne
continued to include Michael in family gatherings which only enhanced the motherly
feeling Michael got from her. The symbolic interactionismtheory relies on the
symbolic meaning that people develop and rely upon the process of social
interaction. With this theory, the reality is seen as social, developed interaction
with others. Most symbolic interactionists believe a physical reality does indeed
exist by an individual s social definitions, and that socially develop in relation to
something that is real. To simply state it, symbolic interactionism is the way we
earn to interpret and give meaning to the world through our interactions with others.
Through Michael and Leigh Anne s interactions, they formed a very strong bond.
This bond was equal to the role of a mother son relationship where Leigh Anne
cared for Michael just as she did for her biologic children. She helped him to better
himself and his life throughout the entire movie. With the motherly support from
Leigh Anne, Michael was able to go forth and make something of himself. Another
example of Symbolic Interaction Theory in this movie occurs when the teachers at
Wingate converse about Michael s academic performance. Four teachers are sitting
around a table in a conference room talking about how they always hate when
admissions allow students to attend their private school, who they can t help. They
are just setting him up to fail, they say. The teachers think that Michael is not even
the least bit intelligent and will fail their classes. In the years before Michael was
allowed into private school, he had

(Craig 25) These messages were internalized by Black women especially, because
in a male dominated society...women were valued as much for beauty as men were

so universally denigrated that she writes, when I was a child, it did not occur to
me even once, that the black in which I was encased . . . would be considered, one

of respectability politics within the black community. Craig writes that the
discourse of race and respectability can be viewed as a product of the aspirations
and fears of a particular segment of the black population...the racist s gaze would
judge the black race on the basis of the least of its members, and thus dignified self
presentation was a racial project in which all black women could and must participate

Examples Of The Categorical Imperative
Immanuel Kant s moral philosophy is mostly remembered for its central thesis, the
Categorical Imperative. According to Kant, rational beings experience the moral law
as a categorical imperative. The Categorical imperative commands universally and
unconditionally, from which all duties are derived. Kant articulates the categorical
imperativethrough several formulations. The most prominent formulations of the
Categorical Imperative are known as the Formula of Universal Law (C1), the
humanity formulation of categorical imperative (C2) and the kingdom formulation of
categorical imperative (C3). The general thought of C1 is to demand that one act
only on the basis of maxims that one can will as universal laws. The second
formulation commands respect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, non formalists read Kant as departing from formalism due to C2,
given Kant s expression that there must be something the existence of which in
itself has an absolute worth. (Gr 82). By a process of elimination, that something
must be persons by virtue of their capacity for rational agency; the absolute worth of
persons or rational agents comprises an independent order of value which grounds
the moral law. On the other hand, Kant is read as a moral formalist due to C1 and
C3. In the first case, Kant is understood as saying that there is a procedure for testing
maxims to determine their universality thereby con structing rational maxims.
Alternatively, according to C3, Kant is understood as saying that the stance of the
members of an ideal kingdom of ends defines what is right. This view holds that
morality consists, then, in the reference of all action to the law giving by which
alone a kingdom of ends is possible (Gr 4:435). However, such a kingdom is
admittedly only an ideal (Gr 83/4:433). The members of such a merely ideal realm
would construct the laws for themselves that ultimately bind all of us. For example,
ideal legislators pass ideal laws that impose moral behavior. However, the content of
the moral law itself is not implicitly
Analysis Of Consider The Lobster
Consideration: thoughtful of the rights and feelings of others
How do you consider the lobster? David Foster Wallace wrote the essay Consider the
Lobster. After the reading, the essay for the first time the thoughts that went through
my head consisted of how the lobsters were treated and what Wallace thought of the
lobsters. The lobsters are chosen out of usually a pot or a giant tank and then boiled
to death. They are placed into a pot of boiling hot water and the saying that the
lobsters are screaming in the pot comes to be true. Some people find it disturbing to
listen to the sound while others cover the pot and not let it bother them. Also, from
the first reading I thought that Wallace was being somewhat hypocritical because I
got the idea that it was acceptable for him to eat and coo ketch lobsters but seeing it
done in the setting of a restaurant, in a larger quantity makes it worse. Gathering all
this information again had made me rethink the essay and look towards the deeper
meaning. Wallace committed suicidein 2008 due to mental illness. So, when we
consider the lobster does it mean that to be considerate of it? Another point I came
to was about was mental illness and how in 2008 Wallace committed suicide.
When lobsters are chosen and boiled to eat, those people are sending them to their
grave . So, what does being considerate consist of when discussing a lobster, a dead
body and the food we are about to eat?

The Baby Boomers rarely complain about their work load or other members of staff.
Baby boomers tend to be more diligent on the job and prefer a more stable working
environment (Loomis, 2000). The Baby boomers tend to work hard and are
generally loyal to their employer. Baby boomers are willing and expecting to work
with others. In term of leadership style, Baby boomers accept the chain of
command. In addition, they expect their managers to give direction and to lead them
towards organizational goals. They prefer teamwork directed by leaders in positional
authority, and a task oriented leadership style. Baby boomers are however, not highly
technologically savvy, nor do they generally like change ( Raths, 1999).
1.2 Generation X
Born between 1965 and 1980, Generation X has strong ties to the Baby Boomers,
but grew up in more prosperous times. As children, this generation was busy
playing outside with their friends home was a place for dinner and sleep. They
share a sense of respect and duty similar to their older counterparts, and also prefer
to keep home and work separate. However, they are more comfortable using
technology even though their lack of formative education in IT means that most are
self taught or have developed their skills in the workplace. They had a colour TV at
home, and probably more than one. They can be known as, techno immigrants‟.

Actuaries in IT-Programming
Definition
History on the development of programming in the actuarial profession
It has become evident in the work place that programming has become an essential
skill. The importance of developing IT skills is highlighted by the Work Based Skills
and Actuarial Training Offices (Actuarial Society of South Africa, 2013). Also,
historical documentation has emphasized the use of technology in life insurance as
well as pension funds as early as the World War II era.
Yates (1997,p.60 and 1999,p.5) stated that in the 1950s life insurance was
introduced to the use of computers as soon as they were available to commercial
firms. He further elaborated on how insurance companies impacted the electro
mechanical punched card tabulating equipment technology since they were the
primary users of the punch card machines during the late 1940s and 1950s. Figure 1
below shows an image of a punched card. Figure 1: IBM punched card (Ceruzzi,
2003)
During the second world war, many mathematically trained actuaries and other
insurance employees were recruited to work on military projects involving
statistics, code breaking, bombsights and operations research while a few worked
on the new computer technology being developed during the war (Yates 1999,p.5).
A paper by Myers, Friend, and Holberton (1954) illustrates how a UNIVAC
(Universal Automatic computer) was used to complete a set of actuarial calculations
. In 1956, Boermeester developed an approximate probability distribution for life

Satisfied employees make for satisfied customers, and satisfied customers make for
an ongoing stream of revenue and profits for SAS. SAS s leaders recognize both
the benefits and costs associated with keeping employees satisfied. One of the
most significant benefits for SAS is a very low annual turnover rate. The company
s turnover rate is less than four percent, as compared to approximately 25 percent
for the industry as a whole. This low turnover saves the company about $70
million annually in employee replacement costs. (14) On the cost side, of course,
is the company s monetary outlay for the various programs. David Russo, the
human resources director, argues that the employee replacement cost savings
more than pays for the company s generous benefits. That s the beauty of it, says
Russo. There s no way I could spend all the money we save. (15) Perhaps of more
concern on the cost side is the potential for employees failing to perform. In
commenting on the company s performance expectations for employees,
Goodnight says: I like to be around happy people, but if they don t get that next
release out, they re not going to be very happy. (16) Pondering the likelihood that
SAS employees would take advantage of the company s relaxed atmosphere, John
Sall, co owner of SAS, observes: I can t imagine that playing Ping Pong would be

trapped due to a rockslide, but was later revealed that a rival crew of illegal miners

South Africa s Chamber of Mines, an industry association, estimates that South Africa
loses about 5% of its potential annual mineral production to illegal mining, the los
production estimates at $2 billion. There are few machines that can do the work of
a miner so it mainly dependent on human physical labor and of course it comes
with many dangerous risks. The majority of the illegal miners make up of
immigrants from Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Lesotho or other central and southern
African nations that come to South Africa in hopes of hitting the jackpot or at
least make a living for their families. Some of the miners who are South African
work for legit companies in the day and at night do a little side work under the

miners is that it takes a long while to receive a legal permit from the government to
work legally, thus many of these individuals don t have the luxury or time to wait
around as they need money desperately. Mining companies in the country face a lot
of pressure globally and locally, globally stagnant or falling commodity prices, and
growing nationalism over a nation s extractive resources. The companies face an
uncertain regulatory environment, rising demands by government, potential labor
unrest and shrinking margins. Local police are normally sent out to regulate in the

The Colonialism And Historiography Of The Colonial
Revival
The Colonial Revival is a phenomenon that materialized as a national expression of
American culture from the 1870s to its peak between 1880 and 1940. The Colonial
Revival was more about ideology but most often manifested itself through decorative
arts and architecture. Elements of pseudo colonial furniture, arts and architecture
symbolically served as tools to promote the republican ideas of democracy,
patriotism and moral superiority. In many ways the Colonial Revival was a direct
reaction to the side effects of Industrialization and progress. Ironically many times
participants of the revival used modern techniques as a means to accomplish their
singular goal. Historian Alan Axelrod argues, Colonialism is not a surface

people are moving towards small compact cars which are normally low priced.
Many companies which earlier normally catered to luxury segment are also entering
this new attractive segment. Global expansion has been the foray of automobile

What to Do After Graduation in Major in Success by
Patrick...
There is a majority of university students worldwide who have something in
common: they have no idea what they will do after they graduate. Some students
may have several ideas came out, but they never make them come true. There are
plenty of people who have difficulty to know what they are passionate in, and even
they can do but most never have the extraordinary drive necessary to go for their
dreams. At this difficult time, there is a book walked to me, Major in Success
written by Patrick Combs, which is a book that is to help people find their true
dream job and become successful, and also it helped me find the true purpose of
studying in university. This book pointed out that doing what you enjoy propels
you to success . It means doing what you enjoy is the core to find your dream job.
If one has a job that pays well but he never get happiness from it, and instead of
fears, tears and no cheers. He also brings their fears from work to their lives and
families and makes these people who are outside of his job feel sad and then, that
will destroy a big and happy environment. This book tells people how to make their
dreams come true. People who follow their dreams are the meaning of living in the
world and the way to get happiness. And everyone has this ability to achieve this
goal; what they need to do is only to possess extraordinary drive. From the book, the
author says repeatedly that when people get graduated, no one cares about your GPA.
Patrick Combs said that

The Controversy Over the Medicinal Use of Marijuana...
The debate about marijuana in the United States is ever changing and not lacking in
attention by any means. Just the topic of marijuana legalization brings about varying
opinions on many different levels and which has the potential to divide a country, a
state, a county, a city and in some instances, maybe a household. The topic of
marijuana and its legalization for whatever reasons contains within it, many topics
which the debate currently revolves around. However, the debate to decriminalize
marijuana for medicinal purposes is the most profound. But, many who do not
know may ask the questions. Who is involved in the debate and for what reasons?
How has it affected our society or nation as a whole? Or, what is the past and what

Advocates for medicinal marijuana argue that clinical tests have established that
marijuana has definite and valid therapeutic values. It is the Tetrahydrocannabinol
(THC) in marijuana that is the active chemical component for the relief o pain and
symptoms. Marijuana suppresses AIDS related nausea and nausea in patients
undergoing cancer chemotherapy, along with appetite loss and abnormal pressure in
the eye which leads to glaucoma, the #1 cause of blindness. Marijuana is also
believed to be a safe and inexpensive alternative in treating muscle spasms, epilepsy,
anorexia, asthma, insomnia, depression and other disorders. Marijuana is not only
believed to help with physical ailments, but psychological ones as well. A former
chairman of the 1991 established Office of Alternative Medicine s (OAM) Program
Advisory Council said, When used appropriately, marijuana could be extremely
helpful to people undergoing certain kinds of emotional crises.
Then there is the opposition who says that there is still no consensus that confirms
marijuana as a legitimate medicinal agent. The opponents believe the THC damages
the brain, the heart, the lungs, the reproductive and immune systems, and that
marijuana use is linked to increased aggressiveness and violent behavior. It is also
reported to reduce memory, inhibit driving ability, limit attention span, increase the
risk of schizophrenia,
Economics Essay On Maggi
ECONOMICS PAPER 1
We all love Maggi, is it safe to eat Maggi? Will the government take actions to ban
Maggi?
The Indian Central Government has declared a nationwide ban on Maggi due to
excess of MSG and lead in the product, which is manufactured by the company
Nestle India. The ban has forced the organization to cut its production of the product
by one third as costumers discard the product amidst health concerns. In brief, the
supply is cut down due to the decrease in demand. Demand is the willingness and the
ability of the consumer to buy goods. Supply represents how much a market can offer.
The sudden decrease in the demand of Maggi is because of higher level of MSG
(Monosodium Glutamate) and lead in it. Maggi noodles have been found to contain
large quantities of MSG, which is one of the leading causes of Obesity and
Hypertension. In addition, Experts say that the ... Show more content on

Exporting will help keep sales healthy. But, hearing what has happened in India,
people in other countries might prefer buying some other brand s products. In the
long run, Nestle can also come up with an alternative instant noodles with near about
the same taste but with permissible amount of MSG and lead. The sales could be
near about the same but due to the impression created by the ban on Maggi, people
might not consider buying something from a defamed company.
To conclude, I d like to say that the ban on Maggi has both positive and negative
impacts. Many people will loose their jobs as a result of the ban, while the ban has
made people concerned about their health and also the ill effects of consuming
packed food.
Well, it looks like we won t be getting Maggi in the near future but there is some
hope that the ban on this renowned product will be lifted given that Nestle complies
with the rules and regulations of the

Nail Fungus Essay
Looking for a cure for nail fungus?
You can use home remedies for fungus, buy a product over the counter at the
Chemist. Or go to your Doctor for a prescription antifungal medication.
There are so many remedies out there it is a matter of finding the one that works for
you.
It is usually common for people to get nail fungus in their big toes. However, I got it
first in the fingernail of my middle finger. Which to this day has never looked the
same?
It can spread very easily, and the worst part, I had the fungus for over 5 years! Yes,
that s right, 5 years. This nail problem can hang around for a long time and some
people can have it even longer.
Through the journey, I felt I was always trying to hide my nails. It was embarrassing

Other ways you can get this nail problem is constantly wearing fake nails. A weak
immune system, lots of swimming in indoor pools. Diabetes, over 40 years of age,
wearing closed shoes constantly like runners, causing trauma to a nail.
Some people are just more prone to nail fungus than others. It also runs in families, if
your mother or father had it, chances are you will too.
It doesn t matter how you get it, once you have it, it s a real pain trying to find a cure
for nail fungus. The only way you can get rid of it is to allow the nail to grow out, it
will not clear up on its own.
The nail has to grow out, and you treat the nail as a new nail is growing. Once the
new nail has grown, it still doesn t mean you are in the clear, continue to treat the nail
to prevent the fungus coming back.
There is no quick and fast way for nail fungus to heal.
Don t be fooled by some of the products available. They are quite expensive and you
will end up buying the product a few times, as you wait for the new nail to grow.

Descriptive Essay On Candy
Being a young boy, I wasn t the brightest light bulb in the ceiling. I was the kind of
kid that could get good grades, but when told to put an ice bag in the freezer, I
accidently put it in the fridge. A person that would go to a parade, and take the good
pieces of candy that they threw. It was not one of the smartest things I ve done in my
life. At this parade, I would steal candy, go to the nearby park, and play tennis. At the
parade, things were starting off very slow. It was very boring for me as a kid, so I
had to try to entertain myself. One of the first things I tried doing at this parade
was try to spider climb up the wall of a building. The roughness of the bricks I
would try to grab would cut my small, fragile fingers and then the blood would start
pouring out. I knew that if I was in the ocean, a shark would smell it from miles
away and gobble me up as if I was a turtle. The boredom was eating me to death, but
then I noticed that they were throwing candy at the crowd. I ran up to get some, so
excited to put the delicious pieces of sugar into my mouth. After getting an absurd
amount of candy, I saw my favorite type; a Hershey s chocolate bar. As I was
running to get it, I saw a little kid was about to grab the delicious tantalizing
chocolate bar(probably about 6 or 7 years old), I snatched it from his mitts. I then
realised my step dad, Brian, watched me do that, scolded me then told me to go back
over there and give it to the 6 year old. After that incident I

Customized products describe manufacturing in the Twenty first century. This has led
to the complex production planning and control systems making mass production of
goods interesting. Many organizations, particularly railway and automotive
organizations, struggled in the new customer driven and globally competitive
markets. These factors present a big challenge to organizations to look for new tools
and methods to continue moving up the ladder in the changed market situation [5].
This creates more problems for new companies that are eager to break into the
markets.
Supply chain is one of the critical aspects that can make or break any company. The
research will also concentrate on aspects of supply chain.

convenient for the manufacture. The Twenty first century demands and requirements

The Philosophies Of Theodore Roosevelt And William
Howard...
When thinking about the numerous, dynamic leaders that America has had over the
course of the nation s history, it can become troublesome to fairly compare these
respective heads of state. Though each American president has unquestionably left
their own unique legacy from their time in office, when comparing leaders from
similar times, certain consistencies can present themselves. While the Presidency is
of course beholden to constructs of political normativity subjective to the era they
presided in, by choosing two POTUS from the same era, we can more adequately
synthesize comparable actions and philosophies between the two. To this end, we will
analyze the terms of Theodore Rooseveltand William Howard Taft, cutting through
narratives of their tenures to truly delineate their comparability. Through a
comprehensive analysis of these two leaders on the subjects of foreign policy, we
begin to parse out many similarities and differences between these two early 20th
century leaders. First, we will look at aspects of Theodore Roosevelt s presidency
as they pertain to issues of foreign policy and diplomacy. Famous for his cowboy
demeanor and unwavering bravado, Roosevelt was once quoted talking about his
diplomatic philosophy, noting that one should speak softly and carry a big stick .
(Morrissey) This statement came to typify what pundits referred to as his big stick
ideology , or a foreign policy founded in political realism, that operated on the notion
of peaceful

can permit them to register a supplementary $500 million in dollars of debt securities
with the Securities and Exchange Commissions. The corporation can then utilize
these earnings for capital costs and debt refinancing. These financial records will
permit capable stockholders and beneficiaries to recheck the debt and assets of the
McDonalds Corporation.
Debt securities include very debt tool that is available for buying and selling inside
two groups and have understanding of some common terms like the notional amount
or also known as the borrowed amount, maturity or renewal date and interest rate.
Debt securities involves corporate, government and municipal bonds, CDs,
collateralized securities ( like CDOs, CMOs, GNMAs) and zero coupon securities.
(Investopedia, 2015). On the financial records, the debt securities are documented in
the type of bonds, collateralized securities and preferred stocks.
How are the corporation s stock investments reported on the financial statements?
If one owns a large business, it is probably common to place one s money into

However, delving into the intricacies of crafting a compelling argumentative essay can quickly reveal its inherent challenges. Firstly, selecting a suitable topic demands careful consideration. It's not merely about picking any argumentative theme; it involves finding one that is not only relevant and engaging but also allows for a nuanced exploration of opposing viewpoints. This initial step can be time-consuming and requires a keen understanding of current issues, societal debates, and potential areas of contention. Once a topic is chosen, the task of conducting thorough research follows. A well-founded argument necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Furthermore, organizing the essay's structure in a logical and convincing manner requires a strategic approach. • 2. Analysis Of Edith Wharton s House Of Mirth From Gender Roles to Gender Goals Edith Wharton s novel, House of Mirth, written in 1905 centers around Lily Bart, a single woman in her late twenties, who is constantly struggling to maintain her status in high society. Lily navigates herself through the upper class with a double consciousness . This double consciousness enables her to recognize ...that [she] is at the same time inside and outside the ideology of gender; and conscious of being so, conscious of that twofold pull, of that division, that doubled vision (Carson 695). Throughout the text she is constantly trying to balance a life of being a financially independent woman or the New Woman Wharton and her contemporaries added to the female archetypes, but then having to abide in the gender roles that society had established. The limits of her sex contribute to her inevitable failure by the end of the novel but the knowledge of them aided her deconstructing her role as a woman. This double consciousness is an advantage since she is able to manipulate the upper class, but the facade she tries to maintain in order to achieve her goal financial stability contributes to her falling victim to the society she tried to configure to her own desires. In this paper, I will argue how the double consciousness of Lily Bart deconstructed the tradition woman to assert the New Woman . I. It makes her look like the real Lily the Lily I know (Wharton 166). This seems to be a never ceasing topic of who the real Lily
  • 3. John F Kennedy s Inaugural Address John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, into one of the wealthiest families in the United States. Universally called quot;JFK, quot; he became a millionaire at the age of 21 when his father gave him one million dollars, but politics and sports were of much more importance to him. He loved touch football, tennis, golf, sailing, and swimming. JFK attended Princeton University and Harvard, graduating from there cum laude. He attended Stanford University business schoolbefore serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a naval hero during World War 11 when his PT boat was cut in half and he helped to save the lives of his crew. Returning after the war, he was elected to Congress in 1946 and to the Senate in 1948 and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At his inauguration, Kennedy said, quot;Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country, quot; perhaps the most famous single quote from an inaugural address. Among many notables in his cabinet, JFK appointed his brother Bobby as Attorney General. From Eisenhower, Kennedy inherited the quot;Cold War quot; with the Soviet Union. In 1962, when American spy planes discovered Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, just 90 miles from the U.S., many thought the nation was at the brink of war. Kennedy imposed a blockade of Cuba but promised not to invade, and the Soviet Union dismantled the missile bases, resolving the confrontation. (Upon seeing photos of the dismantling, Adlai Stevenson, now Kennedy s Ambassador to the U.N, famously said, quot;We are eyeball to eyeball with the enemy, and I think the other fellow just blinked. quot;) Kennedy also promised to send Americans to the moon and bring them back safely before the end of the decade, and although he did not live to see it, his promise came true. He called his program to make things better for Americans quot;the New Frontier quot; and he started the Peace Corps. When the Kennedy family lived in the White House, a managerie of animals abounded on the premises, and Mrs. Kennedy erected a play yard for them under the trees near the President s West Wing office. They had rabbits, lambs, ponies and guinea pigs. A Welsh Terrier named Charlie was
  • 4. Abuse In High School Ask any elementary school student what their favorite part of the school day is, and for the most part, the answer will be recess. Being able to run and play freely on the playground, all the while escaping the four, confining walls of the classroom, is like a breath of fresh air. According to the playground rules, on the playground, imagination is the name of the game. Upon stepping into the magnificent outdoors, school kids can take a leave of absencefrom the real world and vacation in La La Land. As they get older, elementary students may instead opt to jump rope, play kickball, simply enjoy the outdoors, or the like. Not only does this midday hiatus provide young students with an outlet for their energy and an opportunity to leavetheir ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After their recess, teens and their teachers can return to class feeling refreshed and hopefully prepared to take on the rest of their work day. In a world where getting the most out of one s education is a key element to success, the satisfaction and productivity of each student should be of highest concern. Moreover, encouraging students to rejuvenate their energy stores, is one, crucial way of exhibiting care to their psychological well being. While generally associated with children, play performs a significant role in the welfare of all individuals, young and old. Mr. Rogers once said, Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning. With this in mind, opening an outdoor lounge on the Northeast Range School campus would promote the contentedness and learning capacity of the students and faculty there. Is this not a part of the role bestowed upon the education
  • 5. Case Report of Swap Spreads, 2010 Essay example The article Swap Spreads:2010 talks about a financial abnormity that the 30 year swap spread has kept negative since late 2008 for a long time, and an arbitrage opportunity based on the bet that LIBOR would never fall below equivalent government bond interest rates. Question1: Would you recommend that GIC do the bond/swap trade discussed in the case? Why or why not? The arbitrage portfolio is to enter into a 30 year LIBOR swap to pay fixed and receive floating interest payment, to long a 30 year government bond, and to take rolling short positions in 3 month T bills. In practice, the 3 month T bills are replaced by taking a rolling short position of repos daily and entering into a 3 month OIS to receive floating and pay fixed (OIS rate) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, although the article says that the LIBOR OIS spread is little changed, it cannot guarantee that the spread won t be volatile in the 30 year time. To sum up, the trade is feasible, but there are still some things that need to be concerned. Question2: What would be the internal rate of return on the trade over 30 years? Suppose there are no transaction cost, the value of government bonds does not change very much, the notional amount is 1 billion US dollars. The payment is delivered every 3 months, there are 120 deliveries in total. N=120. Payment at time 0 is 1.5%*1,000,000,000= 15,000,000 Payment at each delivery time =[(3.875% 3.445%)+0.0025]*(1 /4)*1,000,000,000=1,700,000 Thus, the IRR=11.33%*4=45.32% Question3: Why do you think the 30 year swap spreads are negative? What type of financial institution would want to receive fixed versus paying LIBOR at these rates? There are two reasons why the swap spread is negative. First of all, people are more risky. The swap spread is the difference between LIBOR swap rate and governmental bonds rate of the same horizon. So it can also been seen as the premium at which large financial institutions can borrow. Investors now think sovereign credits as riskier than highly rated corporates. Second, liquidity is very low in the long end of swaps. The low liquidity is mainly driven by hedging of exotic derivatives. Pension funds would be
  • 6. John Waters Use Of Taboos In Cult Film Taboo as defined the dictionary is: banned on grounds of morality or taste. Taboo topics in cult film are often dealt with in an excessive manner. These taboos can include ideas about sex, family, and gender roles among others. They showcase these taboos in an excess manner. The following films have not only discussions of taboo subjects but depict taboo acts. The films Eraserhead and Pink Flamingos feature excess and the liberal discussion of taboos. Eraserhead represents a taboo of traditional family life. The way in which everyone treats the baby is a taboo against the traditional family views of the time. John Waters intends to break almost every possible taboo in this film. Waters s creatures were a mГ©nage of corpulent transvestites, blue haired flashers, egg sucking hags, and chicken fucking adolescents, they write in John Waters Presents The Filthiest People Alive from Midnight Movies of the characters in the film (137). This statement alone, about the characters, is enough to know this film has crossed some lines. There is excess in the amount of taboos presented in this film including bestiality, incest, cannibalism, and rape among many others. Some social taboos broken are worse than others. While Divine holds the title of filthiest person alive it is her family that allows her to reach that title. It is more so her son, Cracker that does or is involved in the worse taboo actions. His act of bestiality with his chickens is much worse than Divine smuggling raw meat between her legs or running a jogger off the road. Her most taboo act would be the incestuous act of fellating her son, second to that being her murder of the Marble couple. The Marble couple on the other hand are predators. Between their kidnapping of girls in order to impregnate them and sell their babies and his flashing of his genitals to unsuspecting girls on the street, these two at first glance seem to be worse and more vile than Divine and her
  • 7. Cost Of Health Cost of Health Without the proper nutritional education and meals from their homes, children are undoubtedly going to become unhealthy and presumably overweight. Both the stereotypes and physical side effects of being obese can affect a child greatly. Children from poor families are at risk of falling victim to the epidemic that is childhood obesity because of a lack of access to healthy foods. Unfortunately, fresh, nutritional foodis sold for astronomical prices compared to prepackaged, processed food. If a child s family is of low socioeconomic status, it is only logical that they are the one s who most often suffer from obesity. In this section, not only will I discuss the healthimplications this places on a child s life, but the psychological... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The emotions and hormones that naturally run through children as they reach upper elementary through high school are enough to bring doubt and a lack of self confidence, but the stereotyping and treatment of those who are overweight is another obstacle that is often too difficult to overcome. As Morimoto (2008) states ...fat people are generally perceived as less intelligent, incompetent, lazy, socially unpleasant, and emotionally unstable (p.30). These ill harbored feelings of fat as a ...great social, economic, and moral evil (Morimoto, 2008, p. 30) cause the low socioeconomic students who are overweight due to the previously discussed reasons to be thought of as lesser by themselves and their peers. Obese students are often treated as social outcasts because of the stereotypes surrounding their weight. Not only does the lack of friends affect their overall happiness, but there is also a great chance of the children viewing themselves through the same lens their peers were taught to use. The self fulfilling prophecy of being thought of as less capable therefore acting that way would

The rate of software piracy varies significantly across the world, though no country is without it. В· Industrial Piracy: This occurs when individuals or groups duplicate and distribute software on a large scale for profit. В· Reseller Piracy: ABC Computers sells computers with illegal copies of software pre loaded onto them. В· Home Piracy: The original type of software piracy, in which people trade software directly with friends, over bulletin boards or over the web. This form of piracy is very difficult to detect. Out of the 60 provisions, few remain as they were only 13 in all. The authors conclude that future evaluations of the level of copyright protection in the PRC should take into consideration where the
  • 9. The Defense Of Homeland Security An incredibly long 13 years has passes since the Department of Homeland Security has stood up and began the ultra important job of protecting the United States from both state and non state sponsored threats. There have also been great strides made to protect the U.S. from insider threats as well. The monumental effort it took to synergize all 22 agencies with inherently different jobs into one living breathing unit took significant patience and forethought. There has been and will continue to be heated debates on protecting civil liberties while guarding citizens from both terrorists and natural disasters. Can there be a balance of maintaining civil liberties and securing the airports, borders, and cities from another 9/11? Has there been a significant improvement in how different agencies break through the bureaucracy and come together to share information? There has indeed been a substantial improvement to how 22 agencies across the government provide security for all Americans. In response to the attacks on 9/11 the PATRIOT act was passed. (Congressional Digest 2004, 258) The PATRIOT act provided, in many ways like the creation of Department of Homeland Security (DHS), sweeping changes across the government. The PATRIOT act allowed law enforcement unprecedented latitude to identify, prosecute, and ultimately stop terrorists from harming Americans. There were three broad areas where the act gave the agencies tracking terrorists more help. (Congressional Digest 2004,

The Extent to Which the Principle of Sustainability Guides Land Use Policy Development The idea of developing in such a way that the present can meet their needs without future generations needs being compromised is not a new one. It has been practiced and continues to be practiced by many groups of people across the world. For example, this principle is embedded in Aboriginal beliefs that they come from the land, and must return to the land and so must be custodians to the land. The Brundtland Commission, chaired by the Norwegian prime minister, brought the concept to the foreground where the famous definition of sustainability was given. This essay will discuss the idea of sustainability, how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Limits to Growth [2] is a book that tried to explain how economic expansion must soon come to an end , because of environmental limits. Our Common Future , the sequel to this book, starts from essentially similar understandings of the nature of the economy environment interconnections, but draws the conclusion that growth can and should continue, however, this growth would take a different form from past growth, and should be sustainable. By the start of the 1990s about three quarters of councils in England, Scotland and Wales already had a green plan of some kind in effect or in preparation, some explicitly recognising the need to extend to global issues such as global warming as well as local matters. What was new in the 1990s was the degree to which central government began to give formal support to sustainable development, and to land use planning as a means of achieving it, in some cases producing the relevant policies and legislation in response to international commitments. Sustainability is now one of the UK governments key objectives. A commitment to national sustainability plans was a key component of the UNCED agreements in 1992,
  • 11. Pornography, Erotica, and Nude Art – There Is a Difference... Pornography is a subject that has always been argued and stirs up controversy almost anywhere it may arise. There are people who are against it, and would like to ban all pornography for the benefit of everyone, while there are those who defend it, claiming it is part of their guaranteed free speech, to express themselves in a manner of their choosing. With the issue of pornographybeing debated and spoken of, one major mistake people make is that they look at pornography according to their own views. Different types of people look at pornography differently, and therefore create their own definition of pornography in their minds. Usually, pornography tends to be mistaken with nude art and erotica, so some people consider erotic as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So the students were then allowed to look at the subject s breasts and ponder the importance of nude art as they made replicas of the woman in a graceful, artistic, position. The students probably submitted a signed note from their parents to be involved in the sculpture session, because I do not know of any public school that would allow its students to take part in this type of class during school hours, on school grounds. The woman s nudity is considered as art because she is posing for an art class, which was allowed by a public school, although I highly do not think that it would actually happen. Nude art s purpose is to portray the human body as an art form, and not an object of sexuality or arousal. Both pornography and erotica have the main purpose to sexually stimulate people, but pornography does not show the emotional connection between the individuals involved in the sexual acts, while erotica does. Erotica is just like nude art, except that erotica possesses no artistic value, and art does contain an artistic value that is accepted by everyone. There is a form of art called erotic art that I guess is a mixture of erotica and nude art. But if guidelines were to be set by the government, art forms that could be on the borderline of erotic art could be easier to distinguish. Pornography is not classified as nude art at all, and nude art is not pornography. Pornography just has the sole
  • 12. Identifying Requirements For High Level Policy Makers Phase One Identifying Requirements 1.High level policy makers are not only concerned with intelligence; they are constantly concerned with reelection. A policy maker who is identifying requirements could decide to focus resources on an issue that is less vital to the nation s security in order to obtain information that will get them reelected. High level threats could be pushed to the side in order to address an issue that is not necessarily as vital but is a hot topic in news media, and public opinion. This would be followed down by the intelligence community and the more dangerous area or individual threat could be left unmonitored. 2.Often briefings and communication between high level officials and analysts are hectic times and communication of requirements could not be communicated clearly. A policy maker giving feedback on collection objectives or asking questions could be perceived by the intelligence official as requesting more information when really that policy maker has enough information to make a decision. This is an issue when two people come from different backgrounds and use different phrasing, objectives could be easily misunderstood. Time and resources would then be wasted to gather intelligence on issues that are no longer relevant. 3.Officials in the intelligence community often faced with new policy makers or those with differing views from those in the intelligence community could decide to ignore or alter requirements to suit their own

  • 14. Battered Woman Syndrome Research Paper Battered Woman Syndrome has been recognized as a subcategory of post traumatic stress disorder (Walker, 2009). All women who have been battered do not meet all of the criteria in the DSM V for post traumatic stress disorder but many of them do (Walker, 2009). It is also important to note that women who suffer from Battered Woman Syndrome may suffer from other mental health conditions. Treatment should be tailored to fit the unique needs of the battered woman. However, according to Walker (2009) treatment of post traumatic stress disorder and Battered Woman Syndrome may include a combination of feminist and trauma therapy. Feminist therapy helps the victim understand the situational factors that are out of her control which may motivate her to accept and change the factors that she can control (Walker, 2009).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, suing an abuser for financial resources after filing for divorce may be an empowering action in the midst of such stressful legal action (Walker, 2009). On the other hand, trauma therapy helps the victim better understand her psychological symptoms that come from her exposure to trauma (Walker, 2009).Distinctive trauma triggers include the memory of the abusers face, the sound of his voice, and even the batterers scent during the abuse (Walker, 2009). The sensitivity to these triggers can interfere with new relationships and many times never fully go away (Walker, 2009). It is imperative to empower these victims of trauma to strive for change but it is equally important to be able to explain how the abuse and fear triggers desperation in the victim as mental health professionals. Documenting the clients comments about the abuse and the fear of her abuser may help mental health professionals better understand Battered Woman s Syndrome (Walker,

When you are young you don t understand where the language comes from you, you simply imitate the sounds and words that you hear being spoken. As they begin to feel comfortable they start repeating after words they hear usually beginning with mommy , daddy and no . While this initial speaking usually happens around thirteen to fourteen months, a baby can begin learning their languageskills before they are born, The human auditory system is functional from the third trimester on, and the loudest thing an in utero baby hears is its mother s voice, speaking whatever language or languages she knows. Those sounds, with their characteristic rhythms and phonemes, are poured straight into the baby s brain and become comfortingly familiar (Klugger). You might think that having a child learn two languages at once is too difficult for their young brains to comprehend. I agree that learning two languages at once is quite difficult. Studies have shown that is it easier to learn two languages when you are younger compared to when you are older. At Spring Lane Elementary School in Utah the children take half of their classes in English and the other half of their classes in Chinese. Their progress has been something to be noted. They made steady progress through the year, Ridge says. We started school

A Reflection On Classroom Management In Schools Part II: Reflection 1 Module 2 Classroom Management In many classrooms, especially from schools serving low socio economic communities, teachers spend considerable part of their class time and energy to deal with behaviour related issues. Behaviour needs to be dealt with appropriately, before and after its occurrence. It is always preferable to prevent behaviour from occurring, to applying strategies to deal with an already occurred behaviour. Prevention can minimise, if it cannot eliminate. A rich assortment of approaches to apply prevention are widely published that are referred in the remaining paragraphs many of which are underpinned by teachers skills and appropriately prepared lessons. Supportive classrooms are characterised by student engagement on academic tasks and respect for the contributions of all students irrespective of their ability (Fields, 2006). Students will be motivated to behave appropriately when discipline is based on mutual respect, so students should be actively involved in the development of their classroom s Code of Conduct . As Rogers (2008) recommends, teacher should lead the discussions to set classroom rules based around: (a) the key rights to respect of person, property, place, space, feelings; (b) the right to learn without undue, unfair distraction or disruption; and (c) the right to feel safe psychologically and physically. Warfare has changed since the ancient times and with that change, what soldiers wear for protection had to change as well. The consistency of the same soldier is to maintain experienced soldiers. Constantly training new soldiers is a waste of time and money. Nations worldwide for every era understood the concept of a time in which soldiers must serve in the military. In the Roman Republic, it changed throughout the years. At first soldiers had to stay for six years with ten years nonconsecutive. Later it was changed to twenty years, but after the sixteenth year, the soldier was considered a veteran. The final change was twenty years with an additional five years as a veteran (Southern, 2006). Even though the Romans were very strict on the soldiers, the army was superior to any other nation because of this consistency in soldiers. The U.S. military is vastly different with their length of service. The reactant ions reacted and decreased as more product formed. By measuring the conductivity throughout, the equivalence point was determined. With the equivalence point and the stoichiometric relationship, the molarity of barium hydroxide can be determined. Another way to calculate the molar concentration of barium hydroxide would be to calculate the number of moles of the insoluble barium sulfate by gravimetric determination. Data Analysis: 1. 7.6 10 4 mol H2SO4 2. 0.076 M Ba(OH)2 3. 0.0008351 mol BaSO4 4. 0.0835 M Ba(OH)2 5. Equivalence Point: 24% error, Gravimetric determination: 17% error. The gravimetric determination was more accurate because an exact amount of precipitate was formed. Conclusion: In this lab an attempt was made to determine the concentration of a Ba(OH)2 solution by using the conductimetrically determined equivalence point of the reaction between Ba(OH)2 and H2SO4 and by gravimetric determination. The molarity using the equivalence point was determined to be 0.076 M, with a percent error of 24% (actual value was 0.100 M). The molarity using gravimetric determination was 0.0835, an error of 17%. One possible error is the presence of bubbles in the buret. Bubbles would have caused the buret reading to be too high, resulting in a larger equivalence point. Another possible error deals with the colloidal nature of barium hydroxide due to its relatively low solubility. The colloidal barium hydroxide would make it

One evening after a basketball game Leigh Anne Touhy notices Michael walking down the road, shivering in the cold. After having her husband stop the car to speak to him, she had learned Michael had planned to sleep at the school gym after everyone else had left. Leigh Anne offered Michael a warm place to sleep at her and her family s home. This moment between these two was Michael s first real feeling of family. This sparked the relationship that would give him a reason to keep living and gave him something to live for. Leigh Anne continued to include Michael in family gatherings which only enhanced the motherly feeling Michael got from her. The symbolic interactionismtheory relies on the symbolic meaning that people develop and rely upon the process of social interaction. With this theory, the reality is seen as social, developed interaction with others. Most symbolic interactionists believe a physical reality does indeed exist by an individual s social definitions, and that socially develop in relation to something that is real. To simply state it, symbolic interactionism is the way we earn to interpret and give meaning to the world through our interactions with others. Through Michael and Leigh Anne s interactions, they formed a very strong bond. This bond was equal to the role of a mother son relationship where Leigh Anne cared for Michael just as she did for her biologic children. She helped him to better himself and his life throughout the entire movie. With the motherly support from Leigh Anne, Michael was able to go forth and make something of himself. Another example of Symbolic Interaction Theory in this movie occurs when the teachers at Wingate converse about Michael s academic performance. Four teachers are sitting around a table in a conference room talking about how they always hate when admissions allow students to attend their private school, who they can t help. They are just setting him up to fail, they say. The teachers think that Michael is not even the least bit intelligent and will fail their classes. According to Kant, rational beings experience the moral law as a categorical imperative. The Categorical imperative commands universally and unconditionally, from which all duties are derived. Kant articulates the categorical imperativethrough several formulations. The most prominent formulations of the Categorical Imperative are known as the Formula of Universal Law (C1), the humanity formulation of categorical imperative (C2) and the kingdom formulation of categorical imperative (C3). The general thought of C1 is to demand that one act only on the basis of maxims that one can will as universal laws. The second formulation commands respect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, non formalists read Kant as departing from formalism due to C2, given Kant s expression that there must be something the existence of which in itself has an absolute worth. (Gr 82). By a process of elimination, that something must be persons by virtue of their capacity for rational agency; the absolute worth of persons or rational agents comprises an independent order of value which grounds the moral law. On the other hand, Kant is read as a moral formalist due to C1 and C3. In the first case, Kant is understood as saying that there is a procedure for testing maxims to determine their universality thereby con structing rational maxims. Alternatively, according to C3, Kant is understood as saying that the stance of the members of an ideal kingdom of ends defines what is right. This view holds that morality consists, then, in the reference of all action to the law giving by which alone a kingdom of ends is possible (Gr 4:435). However, such a kingdom is admittedly only an ideal (Gr 83/4:433). The members of such a merely ideal realm would construct the laws for themselves that ultimately bind all of us. For example, ideal legislators pass ideal laws that impose moral behavior. However, the content of the moral law itself is not implicitly

After the reading, the essay for the first time the thoughts that went through my head consisted of how the lobsters were treated and what Wallace thought of the lobsters. The lobsters are chosen out of usually a pot or a giant tank and then boiled to death. They are placed into a pot of boiling hot water and the saying that the lobsters are screaming in the pot comes to be true. Some people find it disturbing to listen to the sound while others cover the pot and not let it bother them. • 40. The Colonialism And Historiography Of The Colonial Revival The Colonial Revival is a phenomenon that materialized as a national expression of American culture from the 1870s to its peak between 1880 and 1940. The Colonial Revival was more about ideology but most often manifested itself through decorative arts and architecture. Elements of pseudo colonial furniture, arts and architecture symbolically served as tools to promote the republican ideas of democracy, patriotism and moral superiority. In many ways the Colonial Revival was a direct reaction to the side effects of Industrialization and progress. Ironically many times participants of the revival used modern techniques as a means to accomplish their singular goal. Historian Alan Axelrod argues, Colonialism is not a surface phenomenon, a thin verneer over the real body of American life, but a network of communications and linkages that reach deep into American experience and behavior. Historians examine the movement from various perspectives; the Colonial Revival as a social and cultural movement, its representation in U.S. material culture, and its significance to immigration and nationalism. Scholarship includes everything from Alan Axelrod s The Colonial Revival in America from 1985 to Briann G. Greenfield s Out of the Attic: Antiques in Twentieth Century New England from 2009. A variety of monographs and collections of essays will be analyzed to determine correlations and points of dissent within the historiography of the Colonial

When thinking about the numerous, dynamic leaders that America has had over the course of the nation s history, it can become troublesome to fairly compare these respective heads of state. Though each American president has unquestionably left their own unique legacy from their time in office, when comparing leaders from similar times, certain consistencies can present themselves. While the Presidency is of course beholden to constructs of political normativity subjective to the era they presided in, by choosing two POTUS from the same era, we can more adequately synthesize comparable actions and philosophies between the two. To this end, we will analyze the terms of Theodore Rooseveltand William Howard Taft, cutting through narratives of their tenures to truly delineate their comparability.
