The Glorious Revolution occurred in England between 1688-1689. James II inherited the throne after Charles II, but his Catholicism and plans for a permanent standing army led Protestants to support his daughter Mary and son-in-law William of Orange taking the throne instead. William and Mary agreed to rule jointly and pass the Bill of Rights, which limited royal powers and established parliamentary supremacy. The consequences included parliament gaining greater control over taxation, succession, and war.
