The document discusses the forms of government that existed in the English colonies. It describes the different types of colonial governments, which included proprietary, company, and royal charters. Colonial governments had assemblies and governors that helped make laws and govern the colonies. The document also discusses the trial of John Peter Zenger, who was acquitted of libel charges after criticizing the New York governor, establishing freedom of the press. Finally, it summarizes how the northern colonies were briefly united under the Dominion of New England in the late 1600s before the colonies reestablished their original forms of self-government.
