Santa Maria De Florence Essay
n 1418 the town fathers of Florence finally addressed a monumental problem they d
been ignoring for decades: the enormous hole in the roof of their cathedral. Season
after season, the winter rains and summer sun had streamed in over Santa Maria del
Fiore s high altar or where the high altar should have been. Their predecessors had
begun the church in 1296 to showcase the status of Florenceas one of Europe s
economic and cultural capitals, grown rich on high finance and the wool and silk
trades. It was later decided that the structure s crowning glory would be the largest
cupola on Earth, ensuring the church would be more useful and beautiful, more
powerful and honorable than any other ever built, as the grandees of Florence decreed.
Still, many decades later, no one seemed to have a viable idea of how to build a
dome nearly 150 feet across, especially as it would have to start 180 feet above the
ground, atop the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One contending architect, it was said, proposed to support the dome with an
enormous pillar rising in the center of the church. Another suggested building it out
of sponge stone (perhaps spugna, a porous volcanic rock) to minimize its weight.
Yet another, according to early legend, proposed that a mountain of dirt mixed with
coins serve as scaffolding, to be cleared away free of charge by the money grubbing
citizenry after the dome was
Late Night Show Satire
Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their
new movie, TV series, or music. The host would just conduct light hearted interviews
and harmless, interactive games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets;
James Corden has sang karaoke while driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has
competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited guests to temporarily
replace Pandora. Now, instead of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting political
commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night
television ratings have shifted. Fiery shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and
The Late Show with Stephen Colberthave seen an influx of viewers; whereas the
apolitical Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon has begun to decline. TV preferences,
show content, and social dynamics have transitioned to be more political,
demonstrating that our society is becoming more tribal, more group oriented. Last
year, pre Trump, Jimmy Fallon had the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

therapeutic, to laugh at the (ridiculous) news. The desire to watch someone with the
same opinions as us has encouraged comedians to alter their content. Furthermore,
they have become more overt in their beliefs because of the viewers. If viewers did
not want to see someone bashing Trump, they would not tune in. But people choose
to watch. They want to see someone make fun of Trump. They want to laugh at the
comedians sarcastic comments. They want to know how the hosts feel about the
current events. This trend of like mindedness has not only shifted TV ratings, it has
also changed the dynamic of our
Deaf President Now Analysis
Video Review 2
Prior to watching the Deaf President Now , I thought of a college president as a
really important job. Even though it can be stressful majority of the time, It looked to
be very rewarding. A college president is the head of everything that happens on the
college campus. This includes protecting the students safety and attaining the
knowledge to satisfy the needs of campus. From researching, a president s duty is to
maintain the college campus and to keep it open for improvements(Cook,2012).
Finding someone to maintain the college campus is one of the most important and
demanding actions that has to be done. The process of hiring would be very difficult
since the college president must meet a lot of criteria accessible, ... Show more

The board wanted a hearing president because that is who they thought would do a
better job and they assumed that a deaf president couldn t fulfill certain roles. On the
other hand, the students demanded that there be a deaf president to represent the
college to its fullest potential. It is known that a deaf person can do everything a
hearing person can besides hear((University 1988). The reason the students protested
is because the deaf candidate was best suited for the position. The assumptions the
board of trustees made were not very accurate and fair compared to the rest of the
community. It was surprising to see that the board members were not supportive for
the deaf community since they are associated as top leaders of the

this reason the survey should be done by an independent company. This doesn t only

Abstract
The people in the world that we live in are extremely diverse, in terms of the
nationalities, religions, gender classifications and physical abilities. Social workers
must have a clear understanding of the consequences of diversity and difference and
the mechanisms of oppression and discrimination as they relate to human
development. The range of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds that social
workers will practice in is huge. Because of this, social workers must have an
understanding of the values and attitudes of a multitude of different cultures as well

Ms. Mao describes herself as Chinese of the Han nationality. The Han nationality
dominates the ethnicity of the population of China. According to everyculture.com,
China is the most populous nation on earth; in 2000, the estimated population was
1,261,832,482 (over one fifth of the world s population). Of these people, 92 percent
are Han Chinese; the remaining 8 percent are people of Zhuang, Uyhgur, Hui, Yi,
Tibetan, Miao, Manchu, Mongol, Buyi and Korean (everyculture.com, 2013).
According to Ms. Mao, Chinese people who live in the far south of China belong to
what she describes as the South Asia race.
Ms. Mao earned a degree in journalism in China and has worked as a journalist

The Discussion Of Teaching Sex Education
The discussion of teaching sex education in classrooms were brought up as early as
1912. Movies that are used in sex education can alter the way teens think of sex. The
films used in sex education portrays the different relationships that are created. The
history of sex education in North America is a history of prohibition and has been
concerned with limiting the scope of sexuality its ideas, affects, movements and
practices. In sex education schools create a space in which students and teachers can
potentially think together about the pleasures and risks of sexuality. However, in
school based sex education for youth, especially though but not only in North
America, when it comes to talking about sex thoughts of teenage pregnancy, AIDS,...

All of these subjects can be learned about using sex educational movies. Showing
just a rated R sex movie is not educational and will not explain the risk and dangers
as opposed to an educational film. The students probably know that there is a
significant amount of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) that they can catch while
engaging in sexual activities. The movies can help break down the reasons for
catching the disease, what to do to prevent catching the disease, and how to treat
their selves if they in fact do catch an STD. This will inform students that there is
more to what they think they already know. Thinking is something other than
compliance it is an engagement with uncertainty and doubt and as I explore in this
study, it is entangled in the affective histories of sexuality that inspire the capacity to
think while also unsettling the wish for understanding. Most parents have the Birds
and Bees talk with their children but they are doing the same as a teacher giving the
child a lecture. If the parents were to show their child a video about sex it would be
more interesting to the child and actually have an effect on the child s mind and
thinking process. According to the article Sex and the Cinema: what American Pie
teaches the young Researchers have found virtually no evidence that sex education
causes students to change their behavior in one direction or

James H. Cone, a black theologian of liberation who like all other black
theologians was seeking freedom and justice. Cone has a strong condemnation
toward racism and oppression of black people, especially within the black church.
He strongly believed that religion is the solution to any problem. Dutifully, Cone
turned to scriptures as the sanction for his demands, not allowing anyone or
anything to separate him from the love of God. James H. Cone main objective was
to resurrect himself and his people from the ashes of racism by using the
foundation of the Black Church [scriptures] and confronting adversity. Dr. King
tussled with the cares of life looking for solutions, concern for his family, and stood
up for righteousness, justice, and truth. Dr. King knew what he was up against was
daunting and knew enough to call on the name of Jesus. Dr. King believed in the
power of prayer even through the countless number of threats he received and even
arrested he stood unyielding for what is right, justice. Dr. King refused to sink in the
quick sands of racism and abhorrence. Dr. King realized that he had to alter the
mindset of society if change was to come. These two famous thinkers were mindful of
the test and misery they would face. Their work addresses the advancement for
minority people with the hope and promise to expunge racism among all people.

Essay On Deque
A deque object is similar to a stack or a queue and is initialized left to right from an
iterable value (or empty). In case you re wondering, deque is pronounced deck and
is short for a double ended queue.
Deques are thread safe and memory efficient. They can be appended, extended or
popped from either side. The performance when performing these operations from
one side to the next is roughly the same. Lists of course are faster since they are
immutable but deques are slightly faster than standard tuples.
If you don t specify a size (using maxlen or the 2nd positional argument of deque()),
deques can be as large as you want them to be. If you do specify a size, you can still
use add and delete operations but when one side is added, ... Show more content on

Eventually, it will get the last element from the deque of another processor and
execute it until all deques are cleared (though usually with a processor, the work is
continuous and more efficient due to the algorithm).
No worries though, we will just go through some simple examples from the Python
interpreter.
The datatype deque comes from the collections package. So we need to import it
from there:
from collections import deque
Much like the namedtuple type, we can give it a string and it will be extended into
an array like structure like so:
my_deque = deque( long )
print(type(my_deque))
print(my_deque) deque([ l , o , n , g ])
If we want to add to the right, we can use append() just like you would with a normal
tuple:
my_deque.append( d )
We can also add to the left side with appendleft():
my_deque.appendleft( s ) and continue on from there:
my_deque.append( e )
my_deque.appendleft( i )
my_deque.append( q )
my_deque.appendleft( h )
my_deque.append( u )
my_deque.appendleft( t )
my_deque.append( e )
print(my_deque) deque([ t , h , i , s , l , o , n , g , d , e , q , u , e ])
We can also make shallow copies with the copy() method:
deque_copy = my_deque.copy()
print(deque_copy) deque([ t , h , i , s , l , o , n , g , d , e , q , u , e ])
We can then clear them from all elements by using clear():
deque_copy.clear()
print(deque_copy) deque([]) To get a
Toquepala Cave Paintings
This archeological study will define the symbolism of tribal hunter society in the
mural paintings of the Toquepala Caves. These paintings depict the methods of
hunting that early human beings utilized to trap animals as a food source. The
prehistoric elements of the paintings define the use of wool brushes and red ochre
paints, which define one of the earliest cave paintingdepictions of hunting rites. The
Collawa tribal group created these paintings as part of a celebration of the hunting
traditions that sustained the tribe. The method of corralling and controlling a herds

These cave paintings define some of the earliest human paintings that have been
preserved showing the hunting behaviors of early human beings. These methods of
hunting involve the collective entrapment of the animals through the chaco method
of hunting, which is still practiced in modern day indigenous communities in
Southern Peru. The use of red colorations for animals and the depiction of hunters
partaking in these scenes reveal the intensive detail that the artist presents. The
weapons and other tools, such as fencing, in these paintings define the exact nature of
hunting methods that created a sustainable food source and way of life for the
Collawa peoples during these ancient times. The Toquepala Cave paintings provide
archeologists with some of the detailed observational methods of the artist, which
provide extremely insightful awareness of hunting culture in the prehistoric world.

Comparing the race problems with those in the United States, that the government

Elimination of segregation, national free health care, the breaking up of private clubs,

involvement in all areas of government, acknowledgement of Afro Cuban culture, and

results of the Revolution. Reaching out to Black nationalists from America, although
all of the experiences did not end up amicably, was a positive influence on the Black

Symptoms And Treatment Of Type II Diabetes
A 60 year old woman with a 10 year history of Type II diabetes presents with
multiple complications including retinopathy, peripheral neuropathy and declining
renal function. She has not had the urge to eat as of recently she feels full after a
few bites. The incidence of nausea and feeling bloated occurs at least twice a day
and even after a glass of water she feels bloated. She also complains of fatigue and
not been able to keep up with daily chores. A radiographic gastric emptying study
shows a prolonged gastric emptying time.
What is the typical diagnosis and how would you ideally treat this patient. What is
the mechanism via which the medication acts? The typical diagnosis for this patient
is gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a disorder that most commonly affects people with
both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in which the stomach takes too long to empty its
contents (delayed gastric emptying) ( Gastroparesis, 2014, p. 1). Other causes are
gastric surgery with injury to the vagus nerve, medications such as narcotics and
some antidepressants, Parkinson s disease, and multiple sclerosis. This progressive
condition is caused by damage to the vagus nerve, which regulates the digestive
system. The cardinal symptoms include postprandial fullness (early satiety), nausea,
vomiting, and bloating (Camilleri, Bharucha, Farrugia, 2011, p. 5). Other symptoms
include gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux), abdominal pain, and lack of appetite,
weight loss, and poor glucose control.
The Wizard Of Oz By F. Frank Baum
The Wizard of Oz, is undoubtedly one of the most monumental films of all time.
Being the first full length, live action film to be colored, it was a pivotal film in
movie history. Audiences were awe struck with the shocking new use of color. With
the addition of color to the still quite new use of sound in pictures, viewers were
given an even more fantastically realistic experience. The Wizard of Ozis a classic
story which shares the journey of Dorothy Gale and her adventures which take her
to where she belongs. This film provides the audience with a message and reminder
that one truly belongs with their family. Family is not always blood related, yet one
cannot ignore the bond with those who are. Distance from home is necessary for...

She then disappears in another cloud of red smoke, leaving the terrified
bystanders, the munchkins, and Dorothy, in a state of distress. The creators of the
movie had a spectacular grasp on making the visual storytelling. Since The Wizard
of Oz is the first colored movie, the special effects, sets, and costumes were highly
emphasized and ornate. The first shot in this The Wizard of Oz scene is a wide shot
of Munchkinland with a voluminous mass of red smoke taking focus. With the same
camera angle, the munchkins run away from the mast of smoke and lay on the floor
as the Wicked Witch of the Westis revealed. The dark crimson of the smoke
contrasts greatly with the happy hues of blue, green, and yellow that encompass
the town. This signifies the great difference between the joy of the munchkins and
the anger of the witch. There is then a close up shot of the witch which quickly
cuts to a shot of a terrified Dorothy. It cuts back to a close up of the witch, and the
camera zooms out as it follows her as she walks over to Dorothy s fallen house. It
then proceeds to show a two shot of Glinda placing a reassuring hand on Dorothy s
shoulder. Glinda explains who the witch is to Dorothy, saying that she is the sister
of the witch whom was killed by the house. The next shot is a single shot of the
witch walking towards Glinda and Dorothy as she asks who killed her sister. The

Raskolnikov Internal Conflict
Chloee Henley, Period 5
Part I: Reader s Journal
Part I: Comment on a Character I find it very interesting how suspicious of
everything Raskolnikov appears to be at the beginning of the novel. Obviously in
the first few pages of the novel readers can quite easily identify his internal conflict
and the way he goes back and forth on whether or not he should commit his crime,
but I find it odd that this intense level of suspicion comes before he has even
committed the crime. Most would think that his suspicion of everyone would come
after committing his crime, suspecting that people would know what he had done.

Part II: Comment on the Author s Style The core of this novel is Raskolnikov s crime
and him coming to terms with himself and the guilt/ punishment that he feels and
must endure once committing it. I believe that the way in which the author
decided to write his novel, being able to explore Raskolnikov s mind and thought
process I believe is the best way for readers to understand the crime and the
punishment. I find it interesting how the author writes his character s thought
process in such a way that he is constantly questioning himself in the things that he
has done and what he plans on doing. This questioning is particularly apparent just
after Raskolnikov has killed the pawnbroker and is recapping all that he has done
and how he has hidden the pawnbroker s items he has stolen. He thinks to himself
What is wrong with me? Do you call that hidden? Is that any way to hide things?
(90). The author could have showed a similar approach to Raskolnikov s madness
by giving us a description of a frantic Raskolnikov via other characters thoughts but
instead Dostoevsky lets readers inside Raskolnikov s head in order to get a more
accurate depiction of Raskolnikov s thought process and madness.

Strengths Of Strength And Resiliency
Strengths and Resiliencies
The state of Minnesota is one of the areas in the country with the most organization
that work towards social empowerment. These organizations are steadfast in helping
the public deal with social issues and other problems such as anxiety, depression that
may result from many reasons such as poverty and the hardships faced in life that
may lead to an increase in the truancy rates in schools. This is one of the strengths
boasted by the county in an effort to make the counties within the state resilient to
social problems such as truancy and other social challenges that may result from

them with the ability to cope with challenges and for them to apply various strategies
that can change the various situations they go through.

Reflection Of Lolita
Having read Lolita before this one, I was in a divided mind whether to bring the

impression which I would love to liken to a massive dose of LSD: lovely
exasperating, trippy to the max, to a certain extent very similar to a case of

blinked with me. I brought the book, and soon envisioned myself getting stuck in
the same vein of chaos of words, metaphors, excessively equivocal language and
bizzare monologues once again. However, to my utmost bewilderment, Laughter

clearly show how easy it is for our memories to have false information. We are often
convinced that our memories are correct, especially when they seem to be logical
and contain a lot of detail. However, errors in memory are easily made and far
more frequent than the majority of people realize. This ZAPS experiment
approaches false memory errors in a way where it is easy to point out, and create,
false memories.
The procedure is simple. On the computer screen, twelve words are revealed one
word at a time in the form of a list. After the last word, a matrix of twelve words is
shown. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my theory, confusion was the key element. Transplant errors, explained by the
Cognition text book, were likely to take place. Transplant errors are the process of
confusing elements from one memory with elements from another. I was positive that
this ZAPS task would have elements that would purposely confuse participants, thus
creating false memories.
After the first and second list appeared, I quickly realized that each list was
categorized by theme. This knowledge helped me to organize the words contained
in each list. My articulatory rehearsal loop captured words as they were presented,
although I only had one chance to say them before another word appeared. Instead
of trying to store all twelve words in the articulatory rehearsal loop, I kept track of
the theme of the list and applied my prior knowledge of the subject and my schema
to the entire list. This allowed me to file away each word under one subject, and
therefore only one slot in my articulatory rehearsal loop was used. When it came
time to recall the words, I recognized words that had been relevant to that list. If a
word fit the context of the list, I selected it.
However, in selecting every word that was relevant, I grew increasingly unsure if I
had actually seen the word, or if the word was the category I had created in my
working memory. For example, one of the lists was concerned with the universe, so
in the matrix I chose every word that was related to
The Bell Jar Mental Illness
Mental Illness Effects in Sylvia Plath s Life and Work Sylvia Plath was an
American author and poet. Her death at the age of 30 by suicide was the end of her
long struggle with mental illness throughout her life, chronicled in her most famous
work, her fictional, but inspired by her life novel, The Bell Jar, cited for its feminist
themes and exploration of mental illness. Plath is considered one of the greatest
poets and novelists of the 20th century, whose works were influenced by her mental
illnesses, and still have relevance today. SylviaPlath was born in Jamaica Plain,
Massachusetts in 1932. She started writing poetry at a young age, and had her work
published in some periodicals. Her father died in 1940 when she was only 8, and his...

In her junior year there, she had a mental breakdown and attempted suicide. She was
admitted to a mental facility and later released. She returned to Smith, graduated, and
continued to study at Cambridge. There, she met her future husband Ted Hughes, an
English poet. Her breakdown would be the inspiration for her only novel, The Bell
Jar. The Bell Jar follows Esther Greenwood, a character not unlike Sylvia Plath, in
a situation not dissimilar to her own. Esther was born in Massachusetts, is a writer,
and has a mental breakdown in her junior year of college. Many of Esther s
problems radiate from her relationship with her parents. Esther, at the end of the
novel, is hopeful about her recovery, but Sylvia ended up killing herself shortly
after the novel was published. One of the most common interpretations of the
novel sees Esther Greenwood s life as an example of the difficult position of
educated women in America in the 1950s (Johnson). The novel takes a big stand
against the men driven society of the 50s, and is considered one of the greatest
feminist novels. It explores Esther s status as an independent woman, as she focuses
on her career and overcoming her illness. The book has been banned many times for
its use of profanity, rejecting the typical roles of women, and taboo subjects of the
time such as female promiscuity and
Rosenberg s Category Analysis
Title: An analysis of how children s identity develops over time: using Rosenberg s
study of self descriptions (1979).
Abstract
This report is an analysis of two semi structured interviews investigating the ways
individual children give self descriptions, and how these change with age. An 8 year
old girl and a 16 year old boy were interviewed separately in a familiar environment.
They first wrote down their chosen self descriptions which were then discussed with
the interviewer. These were followed by a series of questions relating to self
evaluation, self and others, ideal self and the locus of self knowledge. The results
were coded using the same methodology the researcher Rosenberg used to analyse
children s self descriptions in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(b) Participants
One primary and one secondary school in Milton Keynes were approached by the
Open University to help the team find willing participants for their research. The
younger participant was Annie, selected from three 8 year olds that were
interviewed by Kieron Sheehy. The older participant was Adam, selected from three
16 year olds interviewed by Peter Barnes. The participants were told at the start of the
interview they could stop the recording and withdraw participation any time if they
wished.
(C) Materials
A consent form of participation and use of audio recording was signed by the
parents of the children prior to the interviews. In both venues the sound recordist
and the producer were present, and the 8 year olds also had a classroom assistant in
attendance. There was an unobtrusive microphone, a pen, and a sheet of paper for the
written task. The sheet of paper had the heading Who am I? followed by ten lines,
each beginning with I...
(d) Procedure
The interviews took place during the school day. After introducing himself, the
researcher told the participant that they were taking part in research that would help
Third Level students understand how children of different ages think and talk about
themselves. The participant was then invited to complete the written task Who am I?

A Beautiful Young Woman Steps Down From The Horse
Drawn...
A beautiful young woman steps down from the horse drawn carriage, one foot
touching down onto the rough ground outside her second home. As she looks
around, she cannot help soaking in all the wonderful scenery surrounding her. The
fabulously large trees too tall to climb perfectly blanketing the hillside in the
distance. The sky clear, blue and bright with a few lingering perfectly formed
cotton clouds. The trees just starting to turn from their deep green to shades of
orange, yellow and brown. The grazing grass that surrounds still the brightest shade
of green imaginable. There are many at this entrance of the castle, standing tall and
at attention to welcome this young woman home. She feels as though she has been
absent for too long. Everyone looks so different, and she feels they must think the
same of her. She was just a young lady of thirteen when she was sent away in
hiding, but now she is seventeen and has matured into a young woman. She moves
slowly taking her first few steps, and approaches the handsome young man in front of
her. Their eyes connect with one another, and the connection is not to be broken
despite every distraction surrounding the two. They are both remembering their
younger days. The days of a boy meeting a girl. The days of holding hands as they
ran up and down these grounds just for play. The days of so much laughter, games,
and unconditional affection. Oh how they had missed each other s company, and

Why Take A Year Off From School
The feeling of uncertainty is an unpleasant emotion that can terrify an individual. It
can make you feel empty and lost, and scare you to hide, never wanting to be found.
It is an emotion that constantly overwhelmed me in the months following my
decision to take a year off from school. I was naГЇve to believe taking a year off from
school was the answer to my problems. I assumed the concept of time would help
me gradually solve my concerns for my future career. But as a matter of fact, I
became more hesitant and confused as time passed along. I began questioning myself
more on the matter. It seemed like a never ending cycle.
However, taking a year off from school had it up sides. I got to experience,
firsthand, how it felt to live in the real world. I got a job as a sale associate and
soon learned the responsibility of working. Every day, I was responsible for waking
up early, dressing appropriately, arriving on time, helping customers and working
diligently. Working allowed me to reinforce my knowledge of responsibility, improve
my communication skills, mature, and grow mentally stronger for when the time ...

Limitations And Errors Of Acoustic Intensity
Limitations and errors in measurement of acoustic Intensity
Whoever starts making the measurement of sound intensity should have basic
knowledge of its limitations and errors. Many researchers are focusing more in
identifying and studying the errors and limitations of measurement of sound
intensity, the study of errors and limitations is attracting the researchers more to look
into measurement of sound intensity. This preoccupation with errors and limitations
is not the result of a particularly gloomy disposition among the members of the
intensity community ; it results from the disturbing observation that the accuracy of
sound intensity measurements depends strongly on the sound field under study, in
combination with the fact that small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phase error is often expressed in terms of the so called residual pressure
intensity index, which should be as large as possible. With high quality
instrumentation and a separation distance of 12 mm this quantity is at least 18 dB
above 250 Hz. One can increase the residual pressure intensity index by using a larger
microphone separation distance, but this conflicts with the high frequency
optimisation
This is normalized error depends upon single property of sound field
In sound power measurement the error depends upon the ratio between
corresponding surfaces integrated quantities. There is pressure correction technique,
which is by knowing the phase error of the instrumentation from a measurement of
the residual pressure intensity index and subtract the error.
2.The high frequency performance of sound intensity probes.
The most fundamental limitation of the two microphone measurement principle is
due to the approximation of the pressure gradient by a difference of pressures at
two closely spaced points, this finite difference approximation obviously imposes an
upper frequency limit. In principle the finite difference error depends on the sound
field in a complicated manner, but practice has shown that the error is acceptably
small if kd 1, where k is wave number and d is microphone separation distance. One
cannot expand the frequency range by using a very small separation between the
microphones since the influence of several
The Squire s Tale Essay
The Squire s Tale
The Squire s tale ends two lines into its third section, and
following this abrupt termination is the wordes of the Frankeleyn to the
Squier. The Franklin praises the young Squire s attempt at a courtly
romance and says that he wishes his own son was more like the Squire. This
is followed by the wordes of the Hoost to the Frankeleyn. Many critics
believe that the words of the Franklin to the Squire are intended as an
interruption of the tale that threatens to go on far too long. However, I
believe the words of the Franklin to the Squire were not meant to be an
interruption at all. There are four main reasons why I believe the passage
was not meant to be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, interrupting someone in the middle of his speech would be
something a person with gentillesse would be hesitant to do. The arguments
that the Franklin s actions were rescuing the Squire from an awkward
predicament (Specht 154) in which his tale was threatening to go on far
too long point out that in such a scenario the Franklin s actions would be
a masterpiece of tact (Spearing, 7). I would argue with this theory for
two reasons. First of all, the Squire gives no indication he wishes to be
rescued. In his tale at the end of telling of Canace and the magic ring,
he proceeds to say he will tell how the other three gifts affected the
lives of other characters. Clearly the Squire could have cut his story
short then if he had been so inclined. Therefore I do not think it is fair
to claim the Franklin was rescuing the Squire. Secondly, if the Franklin
were indeed interrupting the Squire to end his story, he could have
apologized for interrupting. Obviously the Squire has not completed his
tale, he has just announced he has three more parts and is two lines into
the telling of the next section. For the Franklin to begin speaking at
this point he would clearly be interrupting the Squire. To preserve
gentillesse it would be necessary for him to apologize for the break in.

Democratic War Thesis Summary
Bell engages two divergent arguments surrounding democracy, war, and peace the
democratic war thesis and the empire peace thesis . The two ushered in rich debates,
with the former critiquing the franchise of democracy, labeling it as war prone,
meanwhile, the latter working alongside global imperialism.
The Democratic WarThesis argues a direct connection between democracy and inter
state conflict. This argument, is however, split between a strong and weak variant,
with the former claiming that by nature, democracies are prone to war, while the
latter notes democratic norms and structures that offer avenues for conflict, as to
facilitate war (653). Bell points out that as the U.S. public called for war against

Haskell s Portrayal Of Women In Reverence To Rape
In the excerpt Forties from the novel Reverence to Rape, Haskell examines the
portrayal of women in the films from the forties. American screenwriters during this
time portrayed female protagonists in a negative way. Women were displayed as
severely evil and immoral beings. This was a great contrast to the sexually and
morally free women in the films created in the thirties.
The Forties were a time where films were grim. What was interesting to me was the
relation to film noir. The films were very dark and focused on the negatives in
society. These films highlighted crime, mental illness, violence, and more. Due to the
large amounts of cynicism and depression in society, relationships were rooted in fear
and suspicion, impotence and inadequacy (Haskell, 196). Relationships were depicted
as con games, men tricked women and women tricked ... Show more content on

There was a large amount of infidelity and relationship woes being displayed by both
female and male protagonists in forties films.
The Forties began the era of the good girl vs the bad girl and the angel vs. the
devil. Some women were being put down in the films created in the forties. These
women were displayed as lacking high self esteem and were accepting of bad
treatment from men. These women were women in waiting ; those who would
sacrifice themselves for the love of a man. They were the good girls that were
walked all over by men. This contrasted with the bad women of the forties. These
women were con women. They were into criminal activity just as the men were and
would trick men or drag the men down with them. These women were viewed as
liars and treacherous. The bad girls were viewed as beings with no soul who lacked
morality and emotions. Instead of aspiring

By taking pilgrims hostage, King Philip and his colleagues made a deal that they
could exchange their prisoners for payoff as cash, weapon, or procurements. The
assault on Lancaster in 1675 was one of the most punctual strikes. However, it did not
come completely abruptly. Before the assault, gossipy tidbits had coursed that the
Wampanoag tribes were arranging vicious strikes on the boondocks settlements of
what is presently in western Massachusetts. A few pilgrims including the Reverend
Joseph Rowlandson were considered these bits of gossip and noticed important and
ventured out to Boston to approach the administration there for military guide. The
assault was crushing. Numerous pioneers in the town were executed or injured, and
other, including Mary Rowlandson and a few of her relatives were taken hostage.
IN a Mary Rowlandson s narrative, the relationship between the Native American and
the Puritans in New England was so close in term of culture, especially agricultural

Fashion Trends And The Fashion Industry
According to Scratchhard.com, the fashion industry generates an average of $20
billion each year. Fashion designers are the heart of the fashion world. The fashion
industry has grown to popularity by dominating the worldwide economy, media,
workplace, and everyday life. Clothing trends have changed over the last century due
to historical events and the evolution of technology. With the gift of creativity and
skill of constructing clothing, fashiondesigners complete a degree in designing,
research past trends, predict future trends, sketch ideas, and oversee production of
their designs. Fashion designers translate their ideas into clothing to sell. The first
step of designing is researching current fashion trends and predicting future trends.
Trends determine the success of the fashion industry. Designers normally choose a
speciality to design, such as swimwear, bridal wear, children s clothing, footwear,
and men s wear. Sketching the original design is the next important step of the
design process. Computer Aided Designs are the modern method of sketching. Next,
fabric and embellishments are chosen to correspond with the designer s vision.
Creating custom printed fabric and custom dyeing fabric is common for designers.
Most designers work for large companies which provide the designer with a sewing
team. Large apparel companies usually consist of a team of designers headed by a
creative manager. Communicating ideas to the sewing team and giving them specific

How Does Jack Sparrow Use Camera Angles In The
Caribbean
One of my favorite scenes is from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man s Chest
(Verbinski 2006) where Jack Sparrow runs from the cannibals. As the scene was
shot on a beach, I would suspect that they used natural lighting and a light reflector
to bounce some of the natural light onto the subject. In addition, I think that they
used a reflector or two, and perhaps a fill light and a key light to light some of the
shots on the ship. The camera appears to be handheld in the shots where the crew
and Gibbs, Pintel, and Ragetti are walking through the waves to mimic their
movements and the instability that walking against the waves would create. The
shot where Jack is running at 0:47, and 0:50 seems to be shot on a tripod. Perhaps
when Jack is running at 0:49, the cinematographer is following him on a track to
place emphasis on his rapid movement. At 0:58, the camera tilts upward to emphasize
that he is running past the dog.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The camera works as a means to emphasize the character s movements and the
intensity of the scene. The cinematography utilizes handheld shots and shots with
more movement to personify with the characters, allowing the audience to feel as if
they are actually there following their every move. Sometimes, the
cinematography switches to stabilized tripod shots to exaggerate what is occurring
and making the scene humorous. If the camera followed Jack the entire time that
he was running away from the cannibals, the scene would seem intense. However,
we all know that Jack is a very clever and silly pirate. Including more stabilized
shots allows for a comedic sense to arise, relating to Jack s personality. The switch
to a tracking shot of him running away at 0:49 is a smart choice because although
this scene is funny, it allows the viewer to still recognize that Jack and the crew are in

At first I have thought about using chlorine dioxide and high rate multimedia sand
filter. Besides chlorine dioxide being costly and producing chlorites and chlorates as
a byproduct, a sand filter would not be sufficient in removing illness causing
pathogens. I felt that lake vista being recycled wastewater and some viruses being
able withstand UV disinfection from the sun, it would be the safest way to ensure
that the water is virus and pathogen free. With the use of a ultrafiltration membrane,
we could filter out any remaining organic matter that may cause THM formation, and
also remove cysts, bacteria, protozoa and any other pathogen.
Then finally we could use chlorine to disinfect the water, since many odor and taste
causing substances were removed through adsorption with powdered activated carbon
and oxidation with potassium permanganate, there would hopefully be less oxidation
occurring at this stage, causing there to be less time to produce and maintain free
residual chlorine. Lastly we could add the appropriate amount of

Greetings ________, Recently I have read a novel by Patricia Highsmith known as
the talented Mr. Ripley, which carries excitement and irony throughout the book.
This book is about Tom Ripley, twenty three year old con man, who is almost
certain a police officer is approaching him; however it appeared to be one of his ex
friend s fathers, Mr. Greenleaf. Mr. Greenleaf has been looking for Tom to request if
he is able to set sail to Italy to persuade his son, Dickie, in returning to New York. As I
continued to read on, many situations captured my attention, such as traveling to
Italy, the 1950 s style of regulations and amusement, and etc. Many of these
circumstances made the book more tempting to follow, constructing a sense of

The Practice Of Adaptive Leadership
The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of part three of Heifetz book the
Practice of Adaptive Leadership. Parts one and two primarily focused on the theory
behind the concept of adaptive leadership and diagnosing the system. Whereas, part
three focuses on mobilizing the system. Mobilizing the system is a critical and
necessary factor in managing adaptive change. Adaptive change is all about
mobilizing individuals within the organization to greater success. However, it is not
always the easiest part of the change process. Chapters 8 through 12 covers a wide
variety of strategies and techniques to assist in mobilizing the system such as making
interpretations, designing effective interventions, acting politically, orchestrating
conflict and building an adaptive culture. A consistent theme that is outlined
throughout the book is the important lesson of not reacting, responding or
prematurely trying to fix challenges. In fact, Heifetz (2009, 110) reiterates that the
first step towards effective action is non action. I have learned that this strategy is
extremely critical when managing adaptive change. Since reading the book, I have
learned the significance of not reacting impulsively. In my current context, I have
been faced with several challenges and my initial reaction has been to immediately
correct the situation or solve the problem. However, as I continue in my efforts of
practicing adaptive leadershipand effectively managing adaptive change, I have

Sustainable Confusion
Sustainable Confusion Forest Stewardship Council and IKEA
Sustainable development has been a debatable concern in the past few years. To
thrive for a viable environment of carefree living, countries worldwide gather to
discuss the importance of this issue. However, with the sheer efforts of governments
are not sufficient. With increasing awareness of environmental protection and
sustainability, more eco certification organizations and retailers form alliances to
ensure the productive harmony in exploiting natural resources. An example of this
kind of relationship would be IKEA carries Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)

Founded in 1993, FSC is a three chamber system that has representation from
economic players as well as environmental NGOs and social groups (Grant, 2014). It
is dedicated to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and
economically viable management of the world s forests, without compromising those
of future generations ( FSC Forest Stewardship Council В® Vision Mission, n.d.).
To ensure the proper practice of forestry, FSC has developed a set of 10 Principles

Essay about School Cliques
School Cliques
The sounds of laughter and excitement ring throughout the playground on a bright,
sunny, typical day for elementary school students classes, recess, and hurt feelings
from the popular girls in the class, because they called another fellow student s
clothes ugly. What gives these girls the privilege to destroy another person s feelings
and self esteem belongs to one word: cliques. This word can bring fun, joy, and
happiness, or sadness, low self esteem, and depression in students of all ages. A
clique is a formation of people, sort of like an army, a leader, and followers. The
problem with cliques is that they promote fun and excitement when deep down it also
destroys the followers and the bystanders. A clique... Show more content on

The clique members live with constant tension, not sure if their own status is
secure, and they are at risk for what an Arlington psychologist and author Michael
Thompson calls collective group power: There s a diminished sense of moral
responsibility [in cliques]. You feel less sense of individual accountability (Meltz
8). With all of this inside of the clique, there has to be something on the outside.
Outside of the clique there is the victims and bystanders; the victims are the ones
who are teased and isolated they are at a risk for lowered self esteem, poor school
performance, depression, isolation, and eating disorders (Meltz 8). The bystanders
are not part of the clique, but they tend to harbor guilt for standing by when a clique
victimizes a classmate; and they worry all the time that they could be next (Meltz 8).
All of this pressure about belonging to the popular group is put on children in grade
school, but studies show that even in preschool, cliques are forming too. Michael
Thompson s newest book entitled Best Friends, Worst Enemies, Understanding the
Social Lives of Children, tells how children begin to group themselves exclusively
as early as preschool and kindergarten. At recess, a few decide they are a club and
only certain kids can join. At this stage of development, though, they can t sustain
clique like behavior; tomorrow, some kids will have forgotten about

Why Disco Died
Disco music gained popularity during the 1970 s. Most famous disco artists were not
connected to their music and didn t feel it was necessary to take artistic control over
their recordings. With this and the corporate drive to make money, performers
garnered much public attention while producers worked behind the scenes to develop
the disco sound. Along with its catchy beat and syncopated bass line, disco thrived
and soon gained mainstream success that would create an enormous cultural impact
on the music industry as we see it today.
Disco music gained fame through clubs that played these novelty tunes as well as the

Taking a Look at the Missouri Compromise
Missouri Compromise
Most white Americans of the 1800 s agreed that the US push western was hard and
crucial to good health of this nation. But the big question was at what cost it should
be. When President Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase from the French
he was very happy with the thought of gaining the mighty Mississippi river and the
port in New Orleans for America interest but if he could only see the can of worms it
would open for the newly forming United States.
Like many modern day purchase there is always some gray areas that get over
looked from time to time. For President Jefferson and Congress it was should any
states that got carved out of this area to be admitted to the Union as a slave state or
a free state. The Louisiana Purchase had been bought and accepted as a slave
territory in 1812, but no other territory had petitioned for statehood until Missouri did
in 1818.
The incorporation of new eastern states into the United States made slavery a very
slippery slope for national politics. In 1818 there were an even amount of states,
eleven free and eleven slave states. In 1818 the state of Missouri which was a large
slaveholding state petition for statehood to the Union due to its ever growing
population. The northern states were in large opposition to this act for fear that the
larger slave holding southern states would have too much power in the Senate and

things would be like by reiterating it over and over. This forces the listeners, to
recognize the importants and to continuously feel the emotion resulting in them
really thinking about the changes that could be made in the world. While it has
been thirty five years since the assassination of John Lennon, his beliefs and music
have endured the test of time and continue to influence people today. His effective
use of ethos, logos, and pathos work together to help catch the attention of the
listeners and enable them to feel as though there is something they can do to

successful in the way that it definitely caught people s attention world wide and
still causes a great deal of emotions decades after it was written. Music has been
and always will be an important part of people s lives, it makes them feel some sort
of emotions. I think this song was successful in the areas of ethos, logos and pathos
and will definitely continue to be a memorable song for even more decades to

have nothing in common. The Hungarian language is not offered in schools as a
second language for Romanian students. However, for Hungarians, the Romanian
language was mandated as part of the curriculum. Therefore, we had to learn the
Romanian languageas well, which was reasonable since we resided in Romania and
that it considered an official language. Consequently, we were a bilingual community.
However, older generations, grandparents had difficulties adjusting to speaking
Romanian. Additionally, as part of growing up in Romania, French and Russian
languages were offered in the high school. These were requirements rather than
optional. The teachers always told
Descartes s Theory Of Skepticism, The Evil Demon, And
God
Explain and evaluate Rene Descartes argument for knowledge including the role of
skepticism, the evil demon, and god in resolving his doubts. Rene Descartes
argues that a rational method is required to have knowledge. Descartes wants to
determine which, if any beliefs, he has that are certain must be true! He employs a
method of doubt whereby he hopes to find at least one foundational belief. The
Evil Demon suggests that all of one s experiences might be the result of a powerful
outside force, a Malicious demon . Descartes had 3 types of beliefs: Beliefs about
the world Optical illusions, Beliefs about self Dreaming and Beliefs about Math
/Science Evil Demon. He employs a method of doubt whereby he arrives at his one
foundational belief. The evil demon can trick you into belief. According to
Descartes a being cannot have knowledge of a being higher of the scale, unless the
higher being imparts that knowledge to him. His limited intellect could never hope
to comprehend God unless God imparted the Knowledge. Since Descartes has a
clear and distinct notion of God, God must exist. Since God exists and all is good,
all of Descartes previous doubts were washed away. God would not allow an evil
being to deceive us. 2. Explain and evaluate Thomas Hobbes view that all objects are
material, including thoughts, feelings and ideas. The only thing that exists are bodies
in motion . According to Hobbes, thoughts, ideas and feelings are physical entities

Diverging Lens Research Paper
The human eye is arguably one of the greatest innovations in nature. The eye is used
to visibly see objects and their surroundings. Human eyes are tuned to see the visible
spectrum of light. This is in the wavelength ranges of 38010 9 meters to 75010 9
meters (Young 1054). But, as with anything, the eyeis prone to defects and problems.
An understanding behind the structure of the eye helps to understand the most
common defect with eyes, myopiaand hyperopia. Luckily both of these defects are
able to be corrected with the use of corrective lenses. First, an understanding behind
the structure of the eye helps to understand the problems that can develop. Following
a ray of light, the ray will first pass through the cornea, a convex and transparent lens
that protects the eye. This is also where most of the refraction of... Show more content

For the myopic eye, the use of a diverging lens helps to correct the vision. The
diverging lens changes the focal point causing the image to diverge before it
reaches the eye instead of diverging just before the retina. This image then
converges as it passes through the cornea causing a clear image to appear on the
retina instead of before it ( Nearsightedness and Its Correction ). The most common
treatment for myopic eyes is the use of glasses or contact lenses. There is also
surgical ways to fix the eye including laser procedures including PRK or LASIK (
Myopia (Nearsightedness) ). For the hyperopic eye, the use of a converging lens
helps to correct the vision. The image is refracted before it has a chance to enter
the eye which in turn decreases the image distance, s. This then translates the image
to be focused on the retina instead of just beyond it ( Farsightedness and Its
Correction ). Some eyes that are hyperopic are able to correct themselves over time
otherwise glasses or contact lenses are used to help correct the vision ( Hyperopia
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley was born in 1797 and died in 1851. She, for that reason, lived in the
romantic era of literature; her works being the direct product of her times. Her works,
including Frankenstein, reflect key elements of gothic and romantic writing. For
instance, most romantic novels are situated in lovely and glamorous settings which
reflect love and other emotions while gothic novels focus on elements of death or
bizarre happenings. These components together are focused in the novel Frankenstein
. In this essay, a deeper explanation of how Frankenstein is a characteristic of a
romantic and gothic narrative is provided. Knowing the elements of the novel aid in
the critical analysis of the book. This in turn helps readers get into the mind of...

Gothic settings generally take place in gloomy sites in which serve as a
framework for mysterious situations and therefore create more suspense. With
vivid gothic elements, the author, Mary Shelley, is able to scare the reader to
some extent. A significant gothic scene in the novel is when the monster is
created and Victor Frankenstein describes how It was on a dreary night of
November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils...the rain pattered dismally
against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out (Shelly, 43). The description
by Frankenstein sets a dark and gloomy mood and creates fear in the hearts of the
readers as the monster awakens for the first time and no one knows how things
will play out. It foreshadows the darkness to come later on in the novel. The dark,
depressing and horror mood is further set by author s use of stormy, rainy and
thunder filled night settings. Another classic example of how the book is a gothic
novel is the sign of raising the dead or resurrection. The scientist, Victor Frankenstein
is concerned with bringing the dead back to life. With nervousness that practically
advanced into agony, Victor Frankenstein collected the instruments of life around
[him] that [he] might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at [his]
feet (Shelley, 43). The scientist intends to use the body parts of the dead to create
life and ends up creating a monster. The main character does this in order to ignite an
eerie, bizarre feeling in the reader. Since gothic characteristics of a novel are also
portrayed by death itself, the death of Victor Frankenstein s mother, and the murder
of Victor Frankenstein s family members William, Justin, Henry and Elizabeth by the
monster epitomizes gothic conventions in literature. By using gothic characteristics,
the author was able to achieve suspense and to have the reader scared to some
magnitude, wondering if
Sell My House Case
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Kansas City, MO) According to the Kansas City Regional Association of Realtors,
homes in the Kansas City Area sat on the market an average of 61 days before
selling, and closed sales increased by 13.4 percent for new homes, but only 3.6
percent for existing ones. For this reason, individuals looking to sell a home quickly
may find they are unable to do so. Sell My House Quick KC (https:/
/www.sellmyhousequickkc.org/) offers a solution for those who find themselves in
this situation.
We understand that a one size fits all approach doesn t work when it comes to
buying or selling a house. Many individuals offering to buy a home quickly for cash
do so simply because they aren t licensed and aren t familiar with other ways to
eliminate the burden of a troublesome property in a way that all parties benefit, Zac
Morton, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means existing homes will be more in demand, allowing homeowners more
options when they do choose to. Unfortunately, the percentage of the original list
price received dropped to 95.6 percent, meaning owners are getting slightly less than
what they hoped for when the property was put on the market.
Numerous factors need to be considered when a person wishes to sell a home.
Those who choose to work with a company that strictly buys homes for cash will
find that many of these factors are overlooked. This often is a result of the parties
involved being unlicensed brokers.
This isn t a concern with Sell My House Quick KC (https:/
/www.sellmyhousequickkc.org/), as we are a team of licensed real estateagents.u We
consider all options with each client who contacts us, as homeowners deserve nothing
less than the best. We want those who make use of us to come back in the future for
their real estate needs, and we enter each transaction with that goal in mind, Morton

Coca Cola saw that a recent production barrier in Kenya and Uganda that led
mango farmers to face market challenges. This was an opportunity to source some
of their ingredients locally, after a demand from the middle class in the country for
local fruit juice. A nonprofit named Technoserve partnered up with Coca Cola to
create Project Nurture. They taught the farmers new agricultural techniques, quality
management and even connected the farmers to wholesale distributors, this would
reduce the chance for spoilage and waste and create a market for their mangos. As
a result the farmers were finally connected to a market and supply chain that would
provide income for a lost market. Coca Cola effectively helped increase these
farmers wages by up to 142%. To many this was a road out of poverty and for Coca
Cola, they were able to reduce their costs, increase leads and strengthen their
reputation in these countries.
In an effort to create a sustainable community ( which Coca Cola believes is vital for
a sustainable business), they introduced the 5 by 20 Initiative. This initiative would
teach women entrepreneurs critical business skills such as: Record keeping,
managing stock, and financial management. Coca Cola has a goal to reach up to 5

in 60 countries since 2010. After surveying multiple women who have gone through

Testing the Effectiveness of the CCTV Cameras in West
Palm...
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, there has been an intense proliferation of Closed Circuit Television
(CCTV) surveillance cameras in the United States, as well as abroad (Caplan,
Kennedy, Petrossian, 2011; Gill Spriggs, 2005; La Vigne, Lowry, Markman,
Dwyer, 2011; Piza, 2012; Ratcliffe, 2006; Welsh Farrington, 2009). In Great Britain
alone, the expansion of CCTV systems is well documented (Armitage, 2002; Gill
Spriggs, 2005; Welsh Farrington, 2009). This vast expansion can be traced back to
the Home Office in Great Britain, where they issued a call to law enforcement
agencies to use CCTV related initiatives as a viable crime prevention strategy (Painter
Tilley, 1999). In 2002, it was estimated that there were over 500 CCTV systems,
with approximately 40,000 cameras in operation in the United Kingdom (Armitage,
2002; Gill, Rose, Collins, Hemming, 2006). Today those figures continue to climb.
Farrington and his colleagues (2007) estimated that Great Britain now has over four
million cameras in use, or one for every 14 people, more than any other country,
(Farrington, Gill, Waples, Argomaniz, 2007, p. 22).
In the United States a similar expansion is evident (Caplan, Kennedy, Petrossian,
2011; La Vigne, et al., 2011; Piza, 2012). Camera systems have been in operation in
many different American cities, including Chicago (Babwin, 2007), Baltimore (La
Vigne, et al., 2011), Cincinnati (Hurley, 2002; Mazerolle, Hurley, Chamlin, 2002),

Voltaire s Candide And Swift s Gulliver s Travels
From someone deciding to snooze their alarm an extra time in the morning to
deciding if they should marry their significant other, every decision a person makes
will create either a positive or negative effect on their life. This statement is evident
in both Voltaire s Candide and Swift s Gulliver s Travels. Candide
is a satire that was
published in 1759 by the French author and philosopher, François Marie Arouet,
better known as Voltaire. Gulliver s Travels is also a satire that was published in 1726
by Anglo Irish author, Jonathan Swift. In these two stories; no matter how big or
small a decision is, it will inevitably have an effect on the character s quality of life,
even if it is not completely apparent at the time.

To reiterate Pangloss s beliefs that this world is the best of possible worlds he also
claims that there is no effect without a cause. Pangloss uses simple examples in the
beginning of the story to demonstrate what he means. He states: that things cannot
be otherwise than as they are; for all being created for an end, all is necessarily for
the best end. Observe, that the nose has been formed to bear spectacles thus we
have spectacles. Legs are visibly designed for stockings and we have stockings
(18). This statement is illogical and quite humorous, as one would think spectacles
were made for the nose and stockings were made for legs, not vice versa. Anyway,
this whole story is based on cause and effect. Every single decision Candide makes
affects him in some type of way later in the story. Nevertheless, it is not obvious what
the outcome of the majority of his decisions will be, as this story has many twists and
random outcomes.
It all starts at the castle of Thunder ten tronckh where young Candide lays a kiss on
CunГ©gonde. One might believe kissing your love would lead to good things to
come, however, it is the complete opposite. The effect of this cause results in Candide
being banished from the castle to defend himself alone. When Candide and Pangloss
treat the earthquake victims, Pangloss attempts to comfort the victims by telling
them the earthquake was for
The Aeneid Essay
Publius Vergilius Maro, more commonly known as Virgil, was born on October
15, 70 B.C. in a small village near Mantua in Northern Italy. He was born into a
relatively well to do family, as his parents were farm owners with a hefty amount
of land to their name. Virgil was provided with an education that quenched his
thirst for knowledge. He showed a particular interest in mathematics and medicine,
but also studied in law and rhetoric. Quickly after his first law case, he gave up his
studies of law and turned his interests to philosophy. Due to civil unrest, Virgil was
forced to flee his home in 49 B.C. He traveled to Naples and began his career as a
poet. With sponsorship from his friend, Augustus Caesar, Virgil was able to enjoy the

Virgil used some of the same characters that Homer used in his famous poems, the
Iliad and the Odyssey. Ulysses was the hero of Homer s Odyssey. In the Odyssey,
Ulysses took a long, dangerous, and treacherous voyage before he was able to

compared to Ulysses in the poem. Achilles, who was the greatest of all the Greek
warriors, slew Hector, a Trojan hero, during the war in the Aeneid and was the

Motives That Contributed to Imperialism
MOTIVES THAT CONTRIBUTED TO IMPERIALISM Imperialism is defined in
the dictionary as being a The policy of extending a nation s authority by territorial
acquisition or by establishing economic and political hegemony over other nations (p
681 American Heritage college Dictionary). Usually people associate imperialism as
being the domination of a small country by a larger, more powerful country, usually
to the advantage of the larger country. At the beginning of the nineteenth century
most of the countries in Europe were involved in imperialism. Each country had it s
own motives for wanting to gain an empire and some of the reason were Economic,
Political, Religious and Exploitation. Although all of the above are valid reasons,...

Title: Ripening Apricots on and off the Tree
Meta description: Do you have an apricot tree with slow to ripen fruit? Are you
wondering about how to get apricots to ripen up? Click here and find out what to do.
The flavor of a fully ripe apricot is one of the joys of summer. Apricots are among the
earliest fruit ready for harvest each year, but sometimes they take their time,
remaining green for what seems like too long. This can be caused by inadequate
irrigation, not pruning enough, or growing a variety with a longer than average
growing season.
When Are Apricots Ripe and Ready for Harvest?
Apricots trees [link u=apricot flower]flower[/link] in late February or early March,

Apricots have the most flavor and best texture when they are ripened on the tree,
and because they are so delicate, tree ripened fruit is hard to find in the grocery
store. This makes growing apricots at home especially rewarding, because it is the
only way of having this delicious fruit picked at its

  • 2. Santa Maria De Florence Essay n 1418 the town fathers of Florence finally addressed a monumental problem they d been ignoring for decades: the enormous hole in the roof of their cathedral. Season after season, the winter rains and summer sun had streamed in over Santa Maria del Fiore s high altar or where the high altar should have been. Their predecessors had begun the church in 1296 to showcase the status of Florenceas one of Europe s economic and cultural capitals, grown rich on high finance and the wool and silk trades. It was later decided that the structure s crowning glory would be the largest cupola on Earth, ensuring the church would be more useful and beautiful, more powerful and honorable than any other ever built, as the grandees of Florence decreed. Still, many decades later, no one seemed to have a viable idea of how to build a dome nearly 150 feet across, especially as it would have to start 180 feet above the ground, atop the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One contending architect, it was said, proposed to support the dome with an enormous pillar rising in the center of the church. Another suggested building it out of sponge stone (perhaps spugna, a porous volcanic rock) to minimize its weight. Yet another, according to early legend, proposed that a mountain of dirt mixed with coins serve as scaffolding, to be cleared away free of charge by the money grubbing citizenry after the dome was
  • 3. Late Night Show Satire Just a few years ago, late night shows were a way for celebrities to promote their new movie, TV series, or music. The host would just conduct light hearted interviews and harmless, interactive games. Jimmy Kimmel has had guests read hate tweets; James Corden has sang karaoke while driving guest stars; Jimmy Fallon has competed in lip sync battles against guests; SNL has invited guests to temporarily replace Pandora. Now, instead of simple comedy, some hosts are injecting political commentary in their news updates and monologues. Over the last year, late night television ratings have shifted. Fiery shows like Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and The Late Show with Stephen Colberthave seen an influx of viewers; whereas the apolitical Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon has begun to decline. TV preferences, show content, and social dynamics have transitioned to be more political, demonstrating that our society is becoming more tribal, more group oriented. Last year, pre Trump, Jimmy Fallon had the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For one, Donald Trump is not their president (Lang). Retorts like these have earned Noah and Colbert nine hundred forty thousand and 3.31 million viewers, respectively (Welch). The people that watch this political satire may find that it is enjoyable, even therapeutic, to laugh at the (ridiculous) news. The desire to watch someone with the same opinions as us has encouraged comedians to alter their content. Furthermore, they have become more overt in their beliefs because of the viewers. If viewers did not want to see someone bashing Trump, they would not tune in. But people choose to watch. They want to see someone make fun of Trump. They want to laugh at the comedians sarcastic comments. They want to know how the hosts feel about the current events. This trend of like mindedness has not only shifted TV ratings, it has also changed the dynamic of our
  • 4. Deaf President Now Analysis Video Review 2 Prior to watching the Deaf President Now , I thought of a college president as a really important job. Even though it can be stressful majority of the time, It looked to be very rewarding. A college president is the head of everything that happens on the college campus. This includes protecting the students safety and attaining the knowledge to satisfy the needs of campus. From researching, a president s duty is to maintain the college campus and to keep it open for improvements(Cook,2012). Finding someone to maintain the college campus is one of the most important and demanding actions that has to be done. The board wanted a hearing president because that is who they thought would do a better job and they assumed that a deaf president couldn t fulfill certain roles. On the other hand, the students demanded that there be a deaf president to represent the college to its fullest potential. It is known that a deaf person can do everything a hearing person can besides hear((University 1988). The reason the students protested is because the deaf candidate was best suited for the position. The assumptions the board of trustees made were not very accurate and fair compared to the rest of the community. It was surprising to see that the board members were not supportive for the deaf community since they are associated as top leaders of the

Sledge Madonna University Abstract The people in the world that we live in are extremely diverse, in terms of the nationalities, religions, gender classifications and physical abilities. Social workers must have a clear understanding of the consequences of diversity and difference and the mechanisms of oppression and discrimination as they relate to human development. • 7. The Discussion Of Teaching Sex Education The discussion of teaching sex education in classrooms were brought up as early as 1912. Movies that are used in sex education can alter the way teens think of sex. The films used in sex education portrays the different relationships that are created. The history of sex education in North America is a history of prohibition and has been concerned with limiting the scope of sexuality its ideas, affects, movements and practices. In sex education schools create a space in which students and teachers can potentially think together about the pleasures and risks of sexuality. However, in school based sex education for youth, especially though but not only in North America, when it comes to talking about sex thoughts of teenage pregnancy, AIDS,... Showing just a rated R sex movie is not educational and will not explain the risk and dangers as opposed to an educational film. The students probably know that there is a significant amount of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) that they can catch while engaging in sexual activities. The movies can help break down the reasons for catching the disease, what to do to prevent catching the disease, and how to treat their selves if they in fact do catch an STD. This will inform students that there is more to what they think they already know. Thinking is something other than compliance it is an engagement with uncertainty and doubt and as I explore in this study, it is entangled in the affective histories of sexuality that inspire the capacity to think while also unsettling the wish for understanding. Most parents have the Birds and Bees talk with their children but they are doing the same as a teacher giving the child a lecture. If the parents were to show their child a video about sex it would be more interesting to the child and actually have an effect on the child s mind and thinking process. According to the article Sex and the Cinema: what American Pie teaches the young Researchers have found virtually no evidence that sex education causes students to change their behavior in one direction or

These legendary words have been the foundation for people of color since the long nights of captivity, slavery. Several prominent activists have made immense strides in making those words a reality. Such individuals like James H. Cone and the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. James H. Cone, a black theologian of liberation who like all other black theologians was seeking freedom and justice. Cone has a strong condemnation toward racism and oppression of black people, especially within the black church. He strongly believed that religion is the solution to any problem. Dutifully, Cone turned to scriptures as the sanction for his demands, not allowing anyone or anything to separate him from the love of God. James H. Cone main objective was to resurrect himself and his people from the ashes of racism by using the foundation of the Black Church [scriptures] and confronting adversity. Dr. King tussled with the cares of life looking for solutions, concern for his family, and stood up for righteousness, justice, and truth. Dr. King knew what he was up against was daunting and knew enough to call on the name of Jesus. Dr. King believed in the power of prayer even through the countless number of threats he received and even arrested he stood unyielding for what is right, justice. Dr. King refused to sink in the quick sands of racism and abhorrence. Dr. King realized that he had to alter the mindset of society if change was to come. These two famous thinkers were mindful of the test and misery they would face. Their work addresses the advancement for minority people with the hope and promise to expunge racism among all people. During these historical moments one could only imagine that the most important audience
  • 9. Essay On Deque A deque object is similar to a stack or a queue and is initialized left to right from an iterable value (or empty). In case you re wondering, deque is pronounced deck and is short for a double ended queue. Deques are thread safe and memory efficient. They can be appended, extended or popped from either side. The performance when performing these operations from one side to the next is roughly the same. Lists of course are faster since they are immutable but deques are slightly faster than standard tuples. If you don t specify a size (using maxlen or the 2nd positional argument of deque()), deques can be as large as you want them to be. No worries though, we will just go through some simple examples from the Python interpreter. The datatype deque comes from the collections package. So we need to import it from there: from collections import deque Much like the namedtuple type, we can give it a string and it will be extended into an array like structure like so: my_deque = deque( long ) print(type(my_deque)) print(my_deque) deque([ l , o , n , g ]) If we want to add to the right, we can use append() just like you would with a normal tuple: my_deque.append( d ) We can also add to the left side with appendleft(): my_deque.appendleft( s ) and continue on from there: my_deque.append( e ) my_deque.appendleft( i )

The weapons and other tools, such as fencing, in these paintings define the exact nature of hunting methods that created a sustainable food source and way of life for the Collawa peoples during these ancient times. The Toquepala Cave paintings provide archeologists with some of the detailed observational methods of the artist, which provide extremely insightful awareness of hunting culture in the prehistoric world. More so, the cave murals of the Toquepala Caves define the anthropological development of art as a means of recording history in these ancient methods of drawing and painting in the region of Southern

Gastroparesis is a disorder that most commonly affects people with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes in which the stomach takes too long to empty its contents (delayed gastric emptying) ( Gastroparesis, 2014, p. 1). Other causes are gastric surgery with injury to the vagus nerve, medications such as narcotics and some antidepressants, Parkinson s disease, and multiple sclerosis. This progressive condition is caused by damage to the vagus nerve, which regulates the digestive system. The cardinal symptoms include postprandial fullness (early satiety), nausea, vomiting, and bloating (Camilleri, Bharucha, Farrugia, 2011, p. 5). Other symptoms include gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux), abdominal pain, and lack of appetite, weight loss, and poor glucose control.
  • 15. The Wizard Of Oz By F. Frank Baum The Wizard of Oz, is undoubtedly one of the most monumental films of all time. Being the first full length, live action film to be colored, it was a pivotal film in movie history. Audiences were awe struck with the shocking new use of color. With the addition of color to the still quite new use of sound in pictures, viewers were given an even more fantastically realistic experience. The Wizard of Ozis a classic story which shares the journey of Dorothy Gale and her adventures which take her to where she belongs. She then disappears in another cloud of red smoke, leaving the terrified bystanders, the munchkins, and Dorothy, in a state of distress. The creators of the movie had a spectacular grasp on making the visual storytelling. Since The Wizard of Oz is the first colored movie, the special effects, sets, and costumes were highly emphasized and ornate. The first shot in this The Wizard of Oz scene is a wide shot of Munchkinland with a voluminous mass of red smoke taking focus. With the same camera angle, the munchkins run away from the mast of smoke and lay on the floor as the Wicked Witch of the Westis revealed. The dark crimson of the smoke contrasts greatly with the happy hues of blue, green, and yellow that encompass the town. This signifies the great difference between the joy of the munchkins and the anger of the witch. There is then a close up shot of the witch which quickly cuts to a shot of a terrified Dorothy. It cuts back to a close up of the witch, and the camera zooms out as it follows her as she walks over to Dorothy s fallen house. It then proceeds to show a two shot of Glinda placing a reassuring hand on Dorothy s shoulder. Glinda explains who the witch is to Dorothy, saying that she is the sister of the witch whom was killed by the house. The next shot is a single shot of the witch walking towards Glinda and Dorothy as she asks who killed her sister. The camera follows her as she

Obviously in the first few pages of the novel readers can quite easily identify his internal conflict and the way he goes back and forth on whether or not he should commit his crime, but I find it odd that this intense level of suspicion comes before he has even committed the crime. Part II: Comment on the Author s Style The core of this novel is Raskolnikov s crime and him coming to terms with himself and the guilt/ punishment that he feels and must endure once committing it. I believe that the way in which the author decided to write his novel, being able to explore Raskolnikov s mind and thought process I believe is the best way for readers to understand the crime and the punishment. I find it interesting how the author writes his character s thought process in such a way that he is constantly questioning himself in the things that he has done and what he plans on doing. This questioning is particularly apparent just after Raskolnikov has killed the pawnbroker and is recapping all that he has done and how he has hidden the pawnbroker s items he has stolen. He thinks to himself What is wrong with me? Do you call that hidden? Is that any way to hide things? (90). • 20. Essay on The False Memory Task The False Memory Task begins by giving examples of how memory of events can be incorrect, although we might not be aware of it. The goal of this task is to clearly show how easy it is for our memories to have false information. We are often convinced that our memories are correct, especially when they seem to be logical and contain a lot of detail. However, errors in memory are easily made and far more frequent than the majority of people realize. This ZAPS experiment approaches false memory errors in a way where it is easy to point out, and create, false memories. The procedure is simple. On the computer screen, twelve words are revealed one word at a time in the form of a list. After the last word, a matrix of twelve words is shown. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my theory, confusion was the key element. Transplant errors, explained by the Cognition text book, were likely to take place. Transplant errors are the process of confusing elements from one memory with elements from another. I was positive that this ZAPS task would have elements that would purposely confuse participants, thus creating false memories. After the first and second list appeared, I quickly realized that each list was categorized by theme. This knowledge helped me to organize the words contained in each list. My articulatory rehearsal loop captured words as they were presented, although I only had one chance to say them before another word appeared. Instead of trying to store all twelve words in the articulatory rehearsal loop, I kept track of the theme of the list and applied my prior knowledge of the subject and my schema to the entire list. This allowed me to file away each word under one subject, and therefore only one slot in my articulatory rehearsal loop was used. When it came time to recall the words, I recognized words that had been relevant to that list. If a word fit the context of the list, I selected it. However, in selecting every word that was relevant, I grew increasingly unsure if I had actually seen the word, or if the word was the category I had created in my working memory. For example, one of the lists was concerned with the universe, so in the matrix I chose every word that was related to

I would argue with this theory for two reasons. First of all, the Squire gives no indication he wishes to be rescued. In his tale at the end of telling of Canace and the magic ring, he proceeds to say he will tell how the other three gifts affected the lives of other characters. Parts one and two primarily focused on the theory behind the concept of adaptive leadership and diagnosing the system. Whereas, part three focuses on mobilizing the system. Mobilizing the system is a critical and necessary factor in managing adaptive change. Adaptive change is all about mobilizing individuals within the organization to greater success. However, it is not always the easiest part of the change process. Chapters 8 through 12 covers a wide variety of strategies and techniques to assist in mobilizing the system such as making interpretations, designing effective interventions, acting politically, orchestrating conflict and building an adaptive culture. A consistent theme that is outlined throughout the book is the important lesson of not reacting, responding or prematurely trying to fix challenges. In fact, Heifetz (2009, 110) reiterates that the first step towards effective action is non action. I have learned that this strategy is extremely critical when managing adaptive change. This word can bring fun, joy, and happiness, or sadness, low self esteem, and depression in students of all ages. A clique is a formation of people, sort of like an army, a leader, and followers. Outside of the clique there is the victims and bystanders; the victims are the ones who are teased and isolated they are at a risk for lowered self esteem, poor school performance, depression, isolation, and eating disorders (Meltz 8). The bystanders are not part of the clique, but they tend to harbor guilt for standing by when a clique victimizes a classmate; and they worry all the time that they could be next (Meltz 8). All of this pressure about belonging to the popular group is put on children in grade school, but studies show that even in preschool, cliques are forming too. Michael Thompson s newest book entitled Best Friends, Worst Enemies, Understanding the Social Lives of Children, tells how children begin to group themselves exclusively as early as preschool and kindergarten. At recess, a few decide they are a club and only certain kids can join. At this stage of development, though, they can t sustain clique like behavior; tomorrow, some kids will have forgotten about

He employs a method of doubt whereby he hopes to find at least one foundational belief. The Evil Demon suggests that all of one s experiences might be the result of a powerful outside force, a Malicious demon . Human eyes are tuned to see the visible spectrum of light. This is in the wavelength ranges of 38010 9 meters to 75010 9 meters (Young 1054). But, as with anything, the eyeis prone to defects and problems. An understanding behind the structure of the eye helps to understand the most common defect with eyes, myopiaand hyperopia. Luckily both of these defects are able to be corrected with the use of corrective lenses. First, an understanding behind the structure of the eye helps to understand the problems that can develop. Gothic settings generally take place in gloomy sites in which serve as a framework for mysterious situations and therefore create more suspense. With vivid gothic elements, the author, Mary Shelley, is able to scare the reader to some extent. A significant gothic scene in the novel is when the monster is created and Victor Frankenstein describes how It was on a dreary night of November that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils...the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle was nearly burnt out (Shelly, 43). The description by Frankenstein sets a dark and gloomy mood and creates fear in the hearts of the readers as the monster awakens for the first time and no one knows how things will play out. It foreshadows the darkness to come later on in the novel. The dark, depressing and horror mood is further set by author s use of stormy, rainy and thunder filled night settings. Another classic example of how the book is a gothic novel is the sign of raising the dead or resurrection. The scientist, Victor Frankenstein is concerned with bringing the dead back to life. With nervousness that practically advanced into agony, Victor Frankenstein collected the instruments of life around [him] that [he] might infuse a spark of being into the lifeless thing that lay at [his] feet (Shelley, 43). The scientist intends to use the body parts of the dead to create life and ends up creating a monster. The main character does this in order to ignite an eerie, bizarre feeling in the reader. Since gothic characteristics of a novel are also portrayed by death itself, the death of Victor Frankenstein s mother, and the murder of Victor Frankenstein s family members William, Justin, Henry and Elizabeth by the monster epitomizes gothic conventions in literature. By using gothic characteristics, the author was able to achieve suspense and to have the reader scared to some magnitude, wondering if

INTRODUCTION In recent years, there has been an intense proliferation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance cameras in the United States, as well as abroad (Caplan, Kennedy, Petrossian, 2011; Gill Spriggs, 2005; La Vigne, Lowry, Markman, Dwyer, 2011; Piza, 2012; Ratcliffe, 2006; Welsh Farrington, 2009). In Great Britain alone, the expansion of CCTV systems is well documented (Armitage, 2002; Gill Spriggs, 2005; Welsh Farrington, 2009). This vast expansion can be traced back to the Home Office in Great Britain, where they issued a call to law enforcement agencies to use CCTV related initiatives as a viable crime prevention strategy (Painter Tilley, 1999). In 2002, it was estimated that there were over 500 CCTV systems, with approximately 40,000 cameras in operation in the United Kingdom (Armitage, 2002; Gill, Rose, Collins, Hemming, 2006). Today those figures continue to climb. Farrington and his colleagues (2007) estimated that Great Britain now has over four million cameras in use, or one for every 14 people, more than any other country, (Farrington, Gill, Waples, Argomaniz, 2007, p. 22). In the United States a similar expansion is evident (Caplan, Kennedy, Petrossian, 2011; La Vigne, et al., 2011; Piza, 2012). Camera systems have been in operation in many different American cities, including Chicago (Babwin, 2007), Baltimore (La Vigne, et al., 2011), Cincinnati (Hurley, 2002; Mazerolle, Hurley, Chamlin, 2002), Newark, NJ (Caplan, Kennedy

Observe, that the nose has been formed to bear spectacles thus we have spectacles. Legs are visibly designed for stockings and we have stockings (18).
