Funny Persuasive Essays
Crafting a funny persuasive essay might seem like a lighthearted task at first glance, but delving
into the intricacies of humor combined with the art of persuasion presents a unique set of
challenges. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between humor and persuasiveness,
ensuring that the comedic elements not only entertain but also serve the purpose of convincing
the audience.
Finding the perfect blend of wit, satire, and a compelling argument can be akin to walking a
tightrope. While humor is an effective tool to engage readers, it's crucial to avoid crossing the
line into offensive territory. Striking that delicate balance requires a deep understanding of your
audience, as what one person finds amusing might be off-putting to another.
Moreover, constructing a funny persuasive essay demands a keen awareness of the topic's
nuances. The challenge lies in identifying the humor inherent in the subject matter and leveraging
it to drive the persuasive message home. This necessitates a creative approach to both humor and
persuasion, requiring the writer to think outside the conventional boundaries of essay writing.
Additionally, maintaining coherence in the essay becomes pivotal. Ensuring that every joke,
humorous anecdote, or witty remark seamlessly aligns with the overarching argument can be a
formidable task. The essay should not only induce laughter but also strategically deploy humor
as a tool to strengthen the persuasive elements, making it a cohesive and effective piece.
In conclusion, while writing a funny persuasive essay may sound like a delightful endeavor, the
process is far from a walk in the park. It demands a delicate balance of humor and persuasion, a
keen understanding of the audience, and a creative approach to both the topic and the art of
writing. Successfully navigating these challenges, however, can result in an essay that not only
entertains but also leaves a lasting impact on the reader.

Imperialism In Florida
Florida joined the United States as a state on March 3, 1845; the 27th state. Spanish
explorer Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Northeast Florida to claim Florida for Spain.
He named the state in tribute to Spain s Easter celebration known as Pascua Florida ,
or Feast of Flower. Soon after, it was known as the sunshine state. In the 20th century,
tourism became Floridas leading industry and has remained this way today. The
Spanish had great expectations of Florida despite of the obstacles they had to face,
although some obstacles became successful in Florida. The French Settlement of
Florida began in 1562 and found themselves on the St. Johns River not far from the
Spanish settlement at St. Augustine. Cpt. Jean Ribaut was sent from Spain... Show

Throughout his voyage he had trouble reaching Florida due to the weather and the
loss of several ships. When Menendez finally arrived, his first goal was to kick the
French out of Florida and take ownership of the land from the French. He started
out by building a fort in St. Augustine and prepared his men for battle. Ribaut
returns to Florida and attempts to attack the new Spanish colony and capture St.
Augustine. But the storm prevented Ribaut from returning to Florida. Menendez
then traveled north and attacked Fort Caroline surprising the French defenders.
Menendez won the battle, destroyed all the forts built by the French and even
went out at sea to destroy Ribaut s ships including Ribaut himself. Menendez
became the first Spanish colonial governor in Florida and wanted to confirm that
all of Florida remained under the control of Spain. Menendez and his men built
many watch towers to use as lookouts. Menendez also began building forts along
the coast. He requested to import settle farmers and carry 500 settlers (Gannon, 51).
He promised: I will give them lands and east states for their farms, a dozen cows with

Personal Statement For Mechanical Engineering
Humans have a natural tendency to feel attraction towards mystery. When I was a
kid, Machines were mysterious to me, to be completely forthright, it is as yet the
same. Whenever I visited my grandfather s machine shop then, those lifeless
creatures always enchanted me. In fact, my adolescence was surely brimming with
doing all the fun things, at least to me. Splitting a toy, then dismantling its motors,
later use them to make a water boat electric fan was my regular activity. Since
machines had lured me all my life, it was an obvious decision to choose mechanical
engineeringas my future endeavor. Now, after completing graduation from the
Islamic University of Technology, a top tier (OIC Affiliate) and only international
University of Bangladesh, I would like to pursue a career accomplishing a Ph.D. in
the field of Mechanical Engineeringas an ardent Mechanical Engineer. My personal
interest, academic performance, brief exposure to research, professional experience
and inquisitiveness led me to believe that it would not only allow me to expand my
knowledge but also would give me the opportunity to obtain my eventual objective of
taking up a research oriented career in the field of mechanical engineering.
As undergraduate students, we have been exposed to a variety of subjects in this
field, thus it would be difficult to specify certain research area(s), but over the years
I have been greatly fascinated by the fields of intelligent systems and robotics

People have different ideas of a good essay. Essays that are interesting to the
readers. For an essay to be considered a good essay, it has to be entertaining, the
readers should be able to picture an image in their mind. For many others, they
may have different ideas about what a good writer is. For example, I don t like it
when writers give out too much information. They will describe things and go on
and on about it. Others might like this, but I don t like it when the writers do this.
Most writers have one of the qualities that I think makes a good writer. They don t
have to have all three qualities for me to think that it s a good essay. Essays should be

It s a bit too much information about what happens when he is operating. He makes it
interesting for me to read and continue. I don t like things that are graphic but he
makes it interesting. Both of these authors kept their readers interested in the essay
and kept the readers entertained by the way they wrote. They both kept me interested
in their essays.
Another quality a writer should have in his or her paper is giving examples or things
that the readers would find useful and use it themselves. In William Zinsser s The Act
of Writing: One Man s Method he gives a lot of information on writing a paper and
how to improve my writing skills. He talks about editing, cutting and revising (166).
The one that I use the most, after learning from him, is the bracket method. He says
that, The brackets might surround the little qualifiers... sentence that... repeats what
the previous sentence... (167). I use the brackets idea and it makes my essay a little
better. It really helps me to see what I had already said in the other sentence, so I can
change the sentence or delete it. Another writer that gives out good information is
Lewis Thomas. In Notes on Punctuation , Thomas talks about all kinds of
punctuation. He gives information on the parenthesis, semicolon, colon, dash,
comma, exclamation and quotation marks. Before I read his essay I didn t know

Evaluate the Relevance and Adequacy of the Balanced
Score...
Question
(a)Evaluate the relevance and adequacy of the Balanced Score Card as an instrument
for perfomance management.
Introduction
The Balanced Scorecard is a strategic performance management framework that has
been designed to help an organisation monitor its performance and manage the
execution of its strategy. Kaplan and Norton (1996a, 1996b) pointed out that the
implementation of the Balance Score Card is to attain the following goals clarify and
translate vision and strategy, communicate and link objectives and measures, plan, set
targets, and align strategic initiatives; and enhance strategic feedback and learning.

David Norton 1992).With The Balance score card managers the organization is able
to cover customer objectives such as customer satisfaction, market share goals as well
as product and service attributes.
Internal Business Processes
Internal processes that lead to high financial goals for example quality and product
reliability, speed in fulfilling customer needs and also speed in response to customer
complaints and these elements will have an impact on the service to customers.
According to Arifinfo June 2, 2011, the internal processes include improving the
quality and reliability products lowering the number of products that fail, increase
speed of service developing innovation process and develop production capacity
hence performance management is enhanced. Again organizations can cover internal
operational goals and outlines the key processes necessary to deliver the customer
objectives.
Learning and Growth
The Balance Scorecard is relevant and its adequacy lies on that it gives the
organization the ability of employees, technology tools and effects of change to
support organizational goals. A learning and growth metric (or employee metric) is a
framework for quantitatively assessing employee satisfaction, productivity, and
retention in the framework of the balanced scorecard (BSC).A metric that is not just

Ralph Waldo Emerson Essay
Ralph Waldo Emerson, nineteenth century poet and writer, expresses a philosophy
of life, based on our inner self and the presence of the soul. Emerson regarded and
learned from the great minds of the past, he says repeatedly that each person should
live according to his own thinking. I will try to explain Emersons philosophy,
according to what I think he is the central theme in all his works.
Do not seek answers outside yourself
This is the main idea of Waldos philosophy. He thinks that a man should learn to
express himself. Being yourself will help you to solve the problems of your life. We
need to trust ourselves in order to improve our life, like all great men have done. Self
reliance stems from within deep in our soul which is ... Show more content on

Nature in life teaches the understanding, is a practicing for the intellect in learning
how to deal with life s problems. From Emerson s transcendental (a word I had to
learn its meaning in order to understand Waldo s theory) view the natural figures are
also symbols of spirituals facts or philosophy. That by interacting with nature people
learn not only what is practical but also what is good; for Emerson the nature and the
soul are perfectly complementary.
Waldo says that is good to learn from the books as long as the reader keeps his
creativity and way of thinking; that by practical experience we learn quickly and well.
A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his
mind from with in, more than the lustre of the firmament of bards and sages.
He tries to makes us realize our own virtues by calling our internal means, that s the
way to answers to many questions, and even answers for the question we haven t
even shape. To keep the integrity of one s internal evolution.
When people begin to realize that autonomy and the expression of your thoughts is
right for them, then many good changes will happen in society. Emerson s, not only
poems, leads the facts of extended view of progressive learning, but also offers
insights into age old or natural method as better than new technology based on
experimentation. In many of his poems he compares the beauty of the nature, and
expresses, with nature and natural process we can
Summary Of George Starrett Mansion Bed And Breakfast
Ann Starrett Mansion Bed and Breakfast
In 1899, George Starrett built a majestic mansion for his love Ann. Many
descendants lived in the mansion too. There have been sightings of the couple as
well as the nanny who helped raise the couple s son.The figure of a red haired
woman has been seen by many guests and staff. She s often seen admiring the solar
calender built by George for his wife, Ann, which is why many people have felt that
this peaceful spirit is Ann herself. While a male apparition is said to haunt the bed
and breakfast, the most lively spirit is the nanny herself. She s been known to interact
with the guests.
Captain Whidbey Inn
In 2007, the inn celebrated its 100th year. Along with an inn that hasn t changed
much in over 100 years, there are cabins where guests have frequently heard things
that can t be explained. There s been the faint sound of girls laughing where there
were no little girls. There s a female apparition said to be roaming the halls of the
inn. One person reported that he saw a friend scratched by a spirit too.

The Conflicts Between Good and Evil Found in To Kill and Mockingbird by Harper
Lee
In her book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses many different characters and
parts of the plot to show how deeply the conflict between good and evil can affect
everyday life in a small Alabama town in the 1930 s. The setting of her book is
Maycomb, Alabama. Racism between white and black people was a very big
problem in Maycomb. The white people did not like the blacks and thought they
were bad people. The two main characters are Atticus Finch and Tom Robinson.
Atticus is an important lawyer, and he has two children, Scout and Jem. The conflict
of racism explodes when Tom is set up by an evil... Show more content on

At first, the Sheriff acted like most of the people in the town, even though his
conscience started to bother him.
At the end of the book, Bob Ewell tried to hurt Scout and Jem in the forest because
he wanted revenge on Atticus. During Tom s trial, Atticus made Bob Ewell very
angry at the questions he asked and the evidence and Bob Ewell wanted revenge.
Boo Radcliff killed Bob Ewell and the Sheriff saw it, but he changed the story to say
that it was an accident because he knew Bob Ewell was evil and that Boo was a
good man. The Sheriff s decision was another reminder about the titled of the book,
To Kill a Mockingbird because Boo was a Mockingbird character just like Tom.
Harper Lee also showed a conflict between good and evil by using the characters in
her story. She showed the conflict inside a man s own conscience when Atticus had
the courage to stand up for Tom. The Sheriff also had goodness in his heart when
he decided to not tell anyone what he really saw when the Boo Radley killed Bob
Ewell. Another example of conflict within Atticus heart was his fear for his children
s safety versus his belief that it was the right thing to do to be Tom s
Identities Are Multiple And Grow In Spurts
Many key concepts in chapters 3,4, and 8 are directly related. For example, affirming
another person s culture reinforces that identities are multiple and grow in spurts.
There are similarities and differences in family and cultural group histories. Lastly,
many people need explanation in an intercultural relationship, which may lead to
multicultural identities. All of these things directly affect one another, specifically
intercultural relationships. Consequently, an intercultural relationship contains all of
these concepts. One challenge many people face in intercultural relationships is
affirming the other person s culture. This means that we need not only to recognize
that the other person might have different beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes, but also
to accept those characteristics as an important part of the other s identity. (Martin
/Nakayama pg. 262) A person s identity in that relationship is one of their many
identities. Identities are multiple and depend on different times and contexts. They
are also created in spurts. Their identity may not grow for a long period of time, until

The explanation is to other people, family and society about their relationship, and to
each other about their individual cultures. This process of mutual clarification is one
of the healthiest characteristics of intercultural relationships. (Martin/Nakayama pg.
262) Providing explanation to each other, about their own cultures, may lead to
multicultural identities. Once a person learns of the other s traditions, values, or
religion, they may identify more, in that aspect, with the other culture. You have
multiple identities both outside and within your intercultural relationship. Your
identities within your intercultural relationship may be multicultural, which is
brought about by explanation from one another. Without the explanation, you may
have never known you identify
Thomas C. Foster s Is That A Symbol
Is that a Symbol? Sure why not. It s the next question that gets hairy: what does it
mean, what does it stand for (Foster 18)? In Thomas C. Foster s Is That a Symbol
this quote explores the idea that there is a larger aspect when it comes to a symbol
s meaning. The idea of symbolism isn t solely a definition, rather it allows for each
to be unique, whether that is the rivers in both Hart Crane s, and T.S. Elliot s poems,
or the symbolic meaning of a white flag. Foster not only defines a symbol, but he goes
in depth about how one interprets a symbol, which in the end promotes the idea of
individuality.
The idea of symbolism is widely understood, but many do not understand that
symbols can have many different meanings. Foster highlights this point ... Show more

Elliot s The Waste Land. Each author highlights the meaning of rivers; Crane begins
with the East River, which then grows into the Hudson and onto the Mississippi and
Eliot with the River Thames. To each author the river has a distinct meaning. To
Eliot, the River Thames is symbolic of the collapse of western civilization, which
doesn t factor into Crane s piece. In The Waste Land, Eliot like most British poets
immortalize the Thames. Despite how he depicts this, in the modern world it is
just a dirty river. Eliot s background causes him to symbolize the Thames differently
than a reader would in the U.S. Similarly, a reader outside of the U.S. will
symbolize the East, Hudson, and Mississippi Rivers completely different than Crane
and other Americans. Foster believes that the connection in how one interprets a
symbol, and their personal background goes hand in hand. Otherwise, everyone
would connect the Thames to Eliot s beliefs, or the Mississippi and Hudson
according to Crane s ideas. Rather Foster believes that it is important for a reader to
have the freedom to interpret the text
July Act Of Modesty
In life acts of modesty and kindness go a long way in the eyes of society, as they
are influential for the world s younger generations. This is why for July s act of
kindness I performed an admirable act in order to possibly influence the others
around me to do the same. This type of considerate act is what makes our world
prosper through the bad and reminisce in the good by showing how people should
treat one another. Since I am a counselor in training at a camp in Long Island, I am
responsible for watching over a group of children that are between the ages of ten
and twelve years old. Of course at this age in a young childs life, the children are like
sponges in the way in which they absorb information from others around them. This

The War of the Roses
The War of the Roses were a series of dynastic wars fought between supporters of
two rival branches of the royal house of plantagenet, the house of Lancaster and
york. This wars were fought in several sprordartic espisodes beteen 1455 and 1487.
In my opinion this war was not necessary for the history of Europe because they
could only had had talked and solve it in a simple way.
The War of the Roses is called The War of the Roses because the two houses are
represented by two roses, the House of Lancaster is represented by a red rose and the
House of Yorkis represented by a white rose. The War of the Roses started because

First Henry VII married Elizabeth of Yorkand had four children: Arthur, Prince of
Wales, Henry VII of England, Margaret Tudor (Queen of Scots) and Mary Tudor
(Queen of France). Arthur got married with Catherine of Aragon and didn t have
children. Henry VIII got married 6 times with Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn,
Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard and Catherine Parr, he also had
three children: Mary I of England, Elizabeth I of England and Edward VI of
England. His sister Margaret Tudor got married three times with James IV of
Scotland, Archibald Douglass and Henry Stewart, she had two children: James V
of Scotland and Margaret Douglass. The last one in the family, Mary Tudor only
got married two times, the first one with Louis XII of France and Charles Brandon,
she didn t have any children. Elizabeth of York made part of the House of York and
when she married Henry VII Tudor, the two houses bonded to create the House of
Tudor.
There were many wars during this time, the first one being the War of St. Albans in
1459 where Richards yorkish army defeats Henry s lancastrian army. Again in 1459
The Battle of the Ludford Bridge takes place and this time Henry wins and the
yorkish run away.
The Social Colonies Of Ants
Ants are one of the most amazing groups of insects in the animal kingdom. This is
because they
are social insects. Ants form organized and structured colonies or nests consisting of
millions of
individuals. Colonies of ant species will work together and form super colonies,
covering a very
large area of land. Their colonies are described as super organisms as they appear to
work and
survive as a single entity.
Ants have captured almost every area on Earth. They make up to 15% of the total
animal
biomass of a tropical rainforest. It has also been estimated that the combined weight
of all ants
exceeds the weight of mankind. They are present on all continents apart from
Antarctica. This

The ants have six legs. The wing is
only present in the adult ant. The size of ants range from 0.75 to 52 mm (0.030 2.0

largest species of ant is the fossil Titanomyrma giganteum. The queen of this species
is 6
centimetres (2.4 in) long. Its wingspan is of 15 centimetres (5.9 in). Ants differ in
color; most of
them are red or black, but a few special species of are ants are green and whereas
some tropical
species have a metallic luster.
Ants and their Lifecycle
The life cycle of the ant consists of four stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. If the egg
is
fertilized, it produces female ants i.e. queens, workers, or soldiers; and if the eggs
remain
unfertilized, they produce male ants.
Egg: The shape of the egg of the Ants is oval and tiny (1 mm long, queen s egg is
many times
larger).
Larvae: The larvae are worm like and have no eyes and no legs. It eats food
regurgitated by adult
ants. The larvae shed its skin (molt) many times as it increase in size.
Pupa: The larvae spin a silk like cocoon around itself (against a solid object, like the
wall of the
chamber) and pupate after reaching a certain size. During this phase, the body of it

Josh got a call at work from an old high school friend that would be in town that
month, and Josh invited him to stay at his house for the weekend, without first
checking with Linda. Linda was upset when she heard this news because she was
away on business the week before and that Friday was to be her first night home.
Linda was less upset by that fact, and more upset that Josh had made plans without
checking with her first, she would never make plans with anyone without checking
with Josh, and didn t understand why he couldn t show her the same courtesy. This
conflict affected Linda and Josh perhaps more so than another couple because it hit
their primary concerns. Linda was hurt because she felt Josh didn t care as much
about her as she did for him. And Josh was hurt because he felt that Linda was trying
to control him, and limit his freedom. Many women feel that it is expected for them
to consult with their partners at every turn, while men automatically make more
decisions without asking their partners. Women may try to initiate a relaxed

juggling the conflicting needs for intimacy and independence. To survive we need to
act with concern for others but also survive for ourselves. There has always been a

Descartes Meditation 3 Analysis
Julio Franco
PHIL 3602 01
2/11/2016
Meditation 3, in my opinion, is the hardest meditations to understand. That is why I
chose it. In the 3rd Meditation, Descartes attempts to prove that God (I) exists (ii) is
the cause of the essence of the meditator, and (iii) the cause of the meditator s
existence. In order to confirm the truth of clear and distinct perceptions, however, he
must prove the existence of a benevolent God. If God were a deceiver, he could be
deceived even with respect to his clear and distinct perceptions. Descartes states that
there are three types of ideas: Innate, Fictitious, and Adventitious. Innate ideas are
ideas than come from within us. Fictitious ideas are ideas from our imagination.
Adventitious ideas are ideas that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proof relies on causal reasoning, suggesting that there must be a cause of the
idea of God that is as great as God himself. Though my idea of God might have
come from my father, and my father s idea of God might have come from a priest,
the suggestion is that at the end of that causal chain, there is a first cause, which is
God. The proof of the first cause is usually used in pointing out that there must be
some unmoved mover at the source of all change in this universe.
However, this proof has since been discredited, since it relies on a faulty
understanding of causation which assumes, among other things, that all causal chains
must have a first term. No proof of the existence of God is widely accepted today,
and the search for such a proof is no longer a hot philosophical topic. While there is
still disagreement over whether or not God exists and what God s nature is, it is
generally agreed that God s existence cannot be proved through a feat of the

A Moment to Remember Some things will stick with you forever, as for me it was
words I will never forget. It is about the time my dad told me that he was proud of

once he told me he was proud of me for taking the test. After finally passing the
G.E.D test, all he said was congratulation . I felted puzzled I said to myself only

Gandhi s Vision for India
Gandhi s Vision for India
Near the start of the twentieth century, India pursuit for national identity concentrates
on achieving individualism from British rule. Indian nationalism put the British
Empire s grasp on India at risk. Because of the development of extensive railway
system across India to make possible the export of natural resources brought about the
conception of national unity by passing the people of the subcontinent in easy contact
to each other. Furthermore, the British knew that small party of foreigners could not
manage and regulate large country of India. Therefore, the British form elite of
intellectual Indian bureaucrats to control the country. The European structure of

Because both religion groups focus on achieving same goal of contributing to God
s will on earth as it is in heaven, they realize religious wars were suicidal, and that
neither group would forsake their religion by force weaponry; thus, the Hindus
and Muslims choose to live in peace with one another. Gandhi concluded that
Hindus and Muslims are fellow countrymen in India; thus, they will have to dwell
in harmony with each other if only for their own religious reasons. Moreover,
Gandhi talks about his strategy of nonviolent acts to get the British out of India.
Gandhi uses the method passive resistance to sway the hearts of British to stop
racial acts against the citizens of India. According to Gandhi, Passive resistance is
a method of securing rights by personal suffering. The fact that there are so many
men still alive in the world shows that it based not on the force of arms but on the
force of truth or love [qtd.in Overfield 46]. Furthermore, Gandhi concluded,
Passive resistance is an all sided sword; it can be used anyhow; it blesses him who
uses it and hi against whom it is used. Without drawing a drop of blood, it produces
far reaching results [qtd.in Overfield 46].
In closing, the purpose of Mohandas Gandhi s pamphlet, Indian Home Rule, to

How To Write An Essay On Area 51
Does anyone really know what goes on at Area 51? One of the most well known
military sites in America has an immense amount of secrets. Area 51 began with
testing varieties of special aircrafts. There has been speculations of Area 51 hiding
information of the Roswell accident in New Mexico. Some people believe they
capture and experiment on extraterrestrials and their aircrafts. The top secret military
facility known as Area 51tests special aircrafts; however, people connect the
Roswell UFO crash to this site. Because of the extensive secrecy, many
conspiracies have grown out of Area 51. Area 51 is in Nevada 83 miles northwest
of Las Vegas on the dry bed of Groom Lake. It s almost impossible to get close to it
because of how secretive and protective it is. Around the facility, guards keep a
lookout for unwanted visitors and motion detectors are put around the site to tell
employees if someone who is not suppose to be there is on the base. Employees can...

The Battle of Bunker Hill Essay
The Battle of Bunker Hill The battle of Bunker s Hill was one of the most important
battles during the Revolutionary War. On June 17, 1775, the Battle of Bunker Hill
took place. Fought during the Siege of Boston, it lent considerable encouragement to
the revolutionary cause. This battle made both sides realize that this was not going
to be a matter decided on by one quick and decisive battle. The battle of Bunker Hill
was not just an unplanned, random attack on British soldiers preformed by a few
crazed colonists. The battle was the result of struggle and hostility between Great
Britain and the colonies for many years. The feelings of angst were due to the simple
fact of the taxes the British were placing on them combined with the... Show more

These were not the only incidents that caused unrest to exist between the Colonies
and the British. There had been incidents between British soldiers and colonists for
some time, due mainly to the Quartering Act. These incidents finally erupted into the
Boston Massacre, an event that resulted in colonists deaths and more distrust. These
feelings of discontent and the growing fear of an uprising would lead the British to
proceed to Lexington and Concord and destroy colonial military supplies. This left
the colonists with the feeling of hatred and total malice towards the British. Neither
side trusted the other, and had concerns that the opposition would launch an attack
upon them. When the British planned to occupy Dorchester Heights on the Boston
Peninsula, the colonists became alarmed at the build up of British troops off the
coast. The colonists decided that action had to be taken; they had to stop the
threatening British movement in this territory to protect them from an attack.
It was because of this as well as the many small skirmishes through the years, which
would lead the colonies into a confrontation with the British. The Battle of Bunker
Hill started when the colonists learned about the British plan to occupy Dorchester
Heights. The colonists were unnerved by this news. They, the Colonists
Calculus And Similarities Between Newton And Leibniz
In order to dive into precursors to calculus we need to understand exactly what
calculus itself is. So what is it? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary
calculus is defined as a branch of mathematics that deals mostly with rate of change
and with finding lengths, areas, and volumes; it is divided into two types: integral
and differential. The calculus we have come to know and love has been around for
quite some time, dating all the way back to its creation which is credited to Newton
and Leibniz. But what if there was an ancient form of calculus before our modern
calculus? Many ancient civilizations were brilliant and used mathematics in ways
that the people before them never could but is there enough evidence to support the
theory that calculus was not simply the conception of the two rivals Newton and
Leibniz? According to Dr. John H. Lienhard the bare bones of [calculus] had been
hatching before either Newton or Leibniz was born. Ancient Egyptwas one of the
civilizations that was hatching the bare bones of calculus. We will discuss the
problems the ancient Egyptians were trying to solve as well as the methods or
techniques they used and why this leads to the conclusion that neither Newton or
Leibniz should be solely credited with the birth of calculus.
Ancient Egypt has long been a focus for many of us here in the modern world. With
its magnificent architecture, culture, and interesting literature it has baffled the
minds of many great thinkers. It is such
Software Engineering And Intelligent Systems Essay
INTRODUCTION
Throughout the year I have learnt about many issues in software engineering and
intelligent systems by researching for this report. In this report I will be explaining
and discussing these key problems and some key techniques that can be implemented
to overcome these for both software engineering and intelligent systems.
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
Software Engineering is the discipline of designing and developing software projects
so that they behave in an efficient and independent manner while meeting the
requirement of the client. Some key problems which arise in software engineering
are complexity, inefficient communication and inadequate testing. Software projects
are large and take years to make. In order to reduce the risk of failure and keep track
of problems, software projects must follow the correct methodology.
A methodology is a set of instructions followed in order to develop projects
efficiently. In software engineering, a methodology is a discipline which structures a
project strongly so that it will succeed. Without a strong structure, the project will
start to break down and create big problems for software engineers.
KEY PROBLEMS COMPLEXITY
Software projects are complex and can crash with the slightest errors. Software
Engineering projects take a lot of time and can sometimes take years to code. Some
projects are made with over a thousand lines of code, due to this, the chance of error
increases. For example, in 1998, a crew member of the USS
How New Media Can Not Be Easily Defined And The Term...
New Media cannot be easily defined and the term changes daily. It involves
anything that is related to the internet and the relationship between technology,
images, and sound. It is something that is vastly used in our generation and used
throughout the world. New media has completely changed the way people lived
and continues to evolve daily. Before there was ever a term called new media, old
media or print media was flourishing in our society. Print media includes anything
light and portable from books to newspapers to magazines, and could be published
once, daily, weekly, monthly, etc. It was a great stepping stone for the new media,
even though they are contrasts of one another and competitors today. However, it
seems like the new media is dominating, and is causing the old media to suffer. New
Media is basically anything that involves the internet and World Wide Web
, and an
interaction between technology, images, and sounds. They are forms of
communicating in the digital world, which includes publishing on CDs, DVDs
and, most significantly, over the Internet. It implies that the user obtains the
material via desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets (PC Mag). It
is an on demand type of access, in which any content could be viewed anywhere or
anytime, as long as there is some sort of digital device. There is a brief timeline in
which different parts of new media were used. It all started around 1993 when web
pages were created. A year later, Yahoo! was
Nuclear Fusion a Feasible Source of Power Essay example
Is Nuclear Fusion a Feasible Source of Power?
Abstract:
Nuclear fusion may be an effective solution to the energy problem in today?s world.
Fusion is environmentally friendly and has the potential to generate massive amounts
of power. It is evident that the Sun?s power is fueled by nuclear fusion. Recent
advancements such as ITER and NIF may bring us closer to being able to use fusion.
We find that nuclear fusion is a long term solution to a continuing problem.
Introduction:
Since the Industrial Age, energy from fossil fuels has become widespread. In recent
times, the depletion of fossil fuels is forcing humanity to search for other alternatives,
such as nuclear fusion. Fusion has been an attractive method of energy for a ... Show

Scientists aim to gain knowledge and improve the power output, the time duration,
and the energy cost.
Nuclear fusion is a process that occurs when two hydrogen isotopes (tritium and
deuterium) fuse together. This reaction produces a neutron and also a large amount
of energy. However, a massive amount of heat is necessary for the reaction to initiate
because the nuclei (which have very strong opposing charges) must fuse together.
The temperature necessary for this to occur is over one hundred million degrees
Kelvin. When the reaction occurs, the energy is so great that it is very difficult to
contain. So far the known methods of containment are magnetic confinement and
inertial confinement. The magnetic confinement uses a very powerful magnetic field,
and the inertial confinement uses the inertia of the reaction.
(Figure 1, wikipedia, ?nuclear fusion?) We will investigate published literature that
either supports or reflects if fusion is feasible. We believe fusion would be a feasible
source of power if it could produce reasonably more energy that is put in.
Results and Discussion
There are several methods to create nuclear fusion for power. The most successful is
the star, which uses gravity and pressure to fuse hydrogen and create helium.
Unfortunately we cannot harness a sun and harvest it on earth for raw fusion energy.
However, we can create small reactions similar to that of the sun in the lab and turn
the radiant energy

Cultural Similarities Between Mexico And Puerto Rico
There is a tradition of making crafts and clothing by hand. Many of these crafts are
taught in the community and passed down from generation to generation. Along the
line, Hispanic communities started to develop an authentic identity based on local
models and traditions. These crafts often differ depending on the cultureor region.
Three countries whose artifacts are culturally differ are Mexico, Chile, and Puerto
Rico.
Just like any other country, modern Mexican clothing has similarities to popular
styles and clothes worn today. However, the deep cultural roots in Mexico uncover
unique traditional outfits found nowhere else. One of the best known pieces of
traditional Mexican clothing is the Sombrero. It is a tall and wideВbrimmed hat
designed to shade one from the harmful rays of the sun. Traditionally reserved for
cowboys and mariachis, Sombreros are now worn by many and have influenced a
variety of hats, from baseball caps to beanies. From paintings to sculpture, from
carved wood to fine handВmade glass animals, Mexican art shows the pride of
Mexican people s roots. One element that represents the great Mexican art are the
handВmade masks. Originally crafted for national festivities like the Carnival or the

Snow In August Essay
Once upon a dark and snowy Friday night, a mysterious man named Rabbi Hirsch
came out of the dark eeriness of his desolate and abandoned synagogue and asked a
boy named Michael Devlin if he could turn on the lights for him. Michael in the book
Snow in August by Pete Hamill, at first hesitated, but then he willfully did the task.
This started a wonderful friendship between the two Brooklyn residents that brought
out the in best each other despite their different backgrounds. However, with the
relationship came some physical and emotional turmoil as a result of the Rabbibeing
Jewish and most of Brooklyn being anti semitic, meaning that they are hostile
towards Jews. This was evident when Frankie McCarthy and his band of best friends

Waiting for me (Hamill 324). Michael s willingness to do anything he could in real
life and in his brain for the Rabbi showed how he could use his creativity, generosity,
and imagination for good as opposed to for evil. When Michael was thinking that
they were Waiting for me , it shows how Michael was using his imagination for
good to further bring out his positivity in thinking that Rabbi Hirsch will, in fact,
get better no matter how far gone and injured he may be. This connects to Michael
s love of comics such as Captain Marvel because it allows him to use his
imagination to dream up heroes to fulfill the happy ending that Michael dreams of
and wishes for in times of distress and pain. This shows that even though it may only
seem possible for this to occur in one s imagination, for Michael, a simple spoon in a
ceramic box with Hebrew lettering would be the cure for widespread injustice, abuse,
and anti Semitism. When Michael finished following the Rabbi s instructions, a
mythical creature came alive who was called The Golem. This creature had human
characteristics that were entirely out of proportion compared to the rest of the human
population. Meaning he was extremely tall and muscular compared to even the most
massive living human on planet earth. Another special thing about the Golem was
that he did not speak. He only used hand gestures and that was how he communicated
with Michael. But another thing that leads to believe that this

Therefore, it is worthy to notice such special expression difference of miR 193a 5p
in lung cancer. The reasons causing such inverse peripheral blood and tissue miR
193a 5p expression remain unclear yet. It still needs additional larger samples
studies to validate and provide exact explanation. Still, peripheral blood and tissue
miR 193a 5p could provide a certain reference value for clinical lung cancer
diagnosis.
Since miR 193a 5p exerts its regulative functions through specifically targeting certain
target genes, we here collected the possible targets of miR 193a 5p and further
uncover the underlying regulatory pathways. We found that the top enriched items in
BP, CC and MF were regulation of neuron apoptosis; organelle outer membrane and
tubulin tyrosine ligase activity, respectively. Mitochondria is the basic and important
organelle in most of the eukaryocyte. Mitochondria outer membrane permeabilization
has been reported to be involved in cancer and be a promising therapeutic target. [26
27] Thereby, miR 193a 5p might be also involved in lung cancer through similar
approach. Recently, Tubulin tyrosine ligase widespread loss has been found during
the tumor growth, which suggests tubulin tyrosine ligase activity may be involved in
the regulation of tumor cells [28]. As a result, tubulin tyrosine ligase activity might
be related miR 193a 5p, which might exert effects in lung cancer. Nevertheless, more
studies are needed in the future. In KEGG

Populist and Progressive Movements
Populist And Progressives
The Populists and Progressive were two major movements that occurred during the
outbreaks of the workers union after the civil war. The populists began during the late
1800s and the progressives began during the 1900s. There are many differences
between these two movements, but yet both of these movements have many things in
common. During this time, farmers united to protect their interests by creating a
major political party. This party was known as the Peoples Party, which became
known as the Populist Party. Populists drew their strength from rural areas as many
Populists tended to mostly be poor and uneducated. They had ideas such as
government ownership of major industries. Progressives, also affected by
industrialization, began their movements in order to reestablish their society. The
Populists supported labor demands, such as people in the labor force only being
allowed to work eight hour workdays. The Populists tried to encourage more
governmental control over the banking systems as well as governmental control
over the operation of the nation s railroad and communication systems. One of the
most controversial Populist demands was the money supply. Farmers saw inflation
as a way to improve their way of living as the price level of their crops began to rise.
The farmers also planned to expand the money supply at on point.
Progressivism began in the early 1900s. Progressivism was mostly centered in the

The Dangers Of Drinking And Driving
I think drinking and driving is terrible because of how many accidents there are and
because there are so many people getting away with drinking and driving these days.
Driving while under the influence is bad because there are so many wrecks while
driving drunk.
The risk of people driving drunk has increased over the years because cops have
started to slow down on catching people that are driving under the influence. We are
all at risk to drive under the influence but most of us decide not to because there are
smart people In the world beside the people that actually drink and drive but most
of them are complete idiots and need to stop driving drunk before they have to live
with the guilt of knowing that they just killed someone. Male drivers between 22 45
who are old are responsible for over 50% of all drunk driving accidents but it s more
often because of the 22 25 year olds because there at drinking age and get drunk the
first few days of being able to drink because they are beginners and they can t handle
how much they are going to drink and they want to leave after getting drunk because
they don t feel good and want to get home but most likely they get in a car crash
and have to go to the hospital for injuries. They also don t remember getting in the
crash because they just usually leave and the next day they forget what happen
because of the hangover the next day and they usually stay inside the next day
because they don t feel good. They don t care though because
How I Become A Master Driver
How To Become a Master Driver One of the greatest accomplishments in a teenager
s life is receiving their driver s license. Obtaining a license gives a teenager
freedom and a newfound sense of independence because they are no longer at their
parents mercy and can drive themselves. However, becoming a skillful and master
driver is so important, rather than just getting a driver s license. A master driver is
someone who is truly aware of the dangers associated with driving, and he or she
knows how to handle them in an effective manner. Every year countless accidents
occur by reckless drivers, which leads to numerous deaths. I believe everyone can
become a master driver just by following basic driving rules. I will define a master
driver who has four qualities: a master driver always obeys trafficrules, a master
driver always cares about his safety and others, a master driver always wears a seat
belt and ask others to do the same, and a master driver always scans his
surroundings. First of all, in order to become a master drive an individual needs to
obey all traffic rules and regulations. Most accidents occur because some drivers fail
to recognize, respect, and obey some important traffic signs and roadmarkings. There
are important requirements to be a safe and responsible driver. Making a complete
stop at stop signs is very important. Always slow down when the light turns yellow,
rather than speeding up. Furthermore, in the rainy weather always follow road

Critical Thinking Worksheet
IS ATTITUDE REALLY EVERYTHING?
Mindset is a frame of mind that collects our thoughts, way of thinking and habits.
Our mindset is connected to our attitude and it is shaped by our beliefs to pursue our
dreams and everything we want to achieve in life. Positive mindset begets positive
attitude. You will gain qualities that will help you overcome obstacles and problems
along the way. Persons with a fixed mindset think they are intelligent and talented
enough to gain success even without hard work and effort. On the other hand, persons
with a growth mindset improve on their abilities and talents through hard work and
dedication in order to be successful. And that is positive attitude.
Defining and describing a great attitude
A great attitude is often seen in the behavior and personality of a person; of how he
/she interacts and builds relationship with others. A great attitude helps you
accomplish everything you want to accomplish. You ll gain comrades that will help
you achieve your dreams. Why? Because attitude defines your thinking and your
behavioral acts to cope with others and everyone around you. Positive attitude leads
to positive thinking; it will motivate you to work hard to reach your goal.

Realism Vs. Realism Of The United States
Realism versus Idealism. This argument is almost as old as the world we live in. The
Unites States has gone through a lot of stages in its history. The United States was
sometimes realist and sometimes idealist and that led to different presidents,
governments and polices.
A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t
change. They believe that we can make the world a better but the people will still
be the same no matter what you do to them. For example Mahan was a realist who
believed that a man s role in the world is to clime with his country to the top
knowing that some one will claim that spot from you in the future. In the history of
the united states there were a lot of examples or realist politicians. One of the first
and most important realists is Alexander Hamilton. An Idealist is a person who
believes that the people can be changed by education and time. An idealist is a
peaceful person who believes that we can solve our conflicts without wars. They
believe that war is the failure in human evolution and that we should not turn to it to
solve our problems because all war is a symptom of man s failure as a thinking

Gender Equality in Sports
How is it fair that a men s college basketball team is able to be transported on planes
and dine on steak, while a women s team from the same college, travels in a van
and eats fast food? It s not, but this occurs often nowadays even with laws passed
preventing this type of discrimination. In 1972, Congress passed Title IX, which
prohibits discrimination against girls and women in federally funded education,
including athletic programs (Kiernan 3). Many schools and colleges have not been
able to comply with the Title IX standards mostly because of money. Some of the
problems in high schools and colleges consist of insufficient scholarships for girls,
not enough coaching jobs, a lack of equipment, and a limited amount of supplies. Not

Within the next 25 years, at this rate, coaches of women s teams will be nearly
gone. Even if the opportunity is there, no one will want to take it. Another thing a
true coach does not like to see is their team being treated disproportionate to others.
When it comes to scholarship money and scholarship opportunity, women are not
given a fair chance to live their dreams. br br Young girls dream of, one day, being
able to play the sport they adore for the rest of their life. For many adolescent girls
this dream many not seem at all possible, perhaps because of their own financial
status at home. Scholarships are supposed to provide financial assistance to those
who need and deserve to have a superb education. Scholarships could also be used to
reward students for their outstanding achievement in the field of sports. Women
received $142,622,803 less scholarship support than their male counterparts during
the 1995 1996 scholastic year (Wine 2). Women are merely 30% of scholarship
money; that leaves 70% of the scholarship money for the men to spend. The 70% of
В‘leftover scholarship money certainly does not go to the women s equipment and
supplies. br br Determining the compliance for the provision of equipment and
supplies involves evaluating six separate things. Quality, suitability, quantity,
availability, maintenance, and replacement must all be taken into accord when
following a compliance policy (Compliance II 7). Full compliance, in this area,

the pet. At first he thought a dog would be fun/loving to have around. Infact,
Gregory first referred it as a mate. Once he did get one, he had to deal with it the

Once he too finds out about Sweetie s (the dog s) characteristics, he wants the dog

Fdi ( Foreign Direct Investment )
Chapter Two Literature review
2.1 The overview of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment)
FDI is where the MNE invests directly in production or other facilities over which it
has effective control in a host economy (j t). According to Pollan (), the definition of
the terms investment is highly significant to Foreign Direct Investment, which can be
typical comprehend as the conveyance of capital to a country. Investment can be
defined as money committed or property acquired in order to gain profitable returns,
as interest, future income or appreciation in value (business dictionary, 2014). The
commonest definition used to understand the idea of FDI is the definition provided
by International Monetary Fund s (IMF). The IMF definition of FDI introduces
systems and structures which clearly demarcates foreign direct investment from
portfolio investment. According to the IMF, direct investment creates a lasting
interest in an enterprise, consisting of a long term relationship between the investor
and the enterprise and that the investor has an outstanding amount of control on the
management of the enterprise, while portfolio investment does not create an
extended relationship and the portfolio investor is rarely directly partaking in the day
to day management of the enterprise (Pollan,). FDI however has no comprehensive,
authoritative and ubiquitous legal definition and the test for the existence of enough
degree of control differs in scope depending on applicable law in a

maps were produced for the year 1984, 1995, 2006, and 2016 (Fig 4.1). These
maps show built up area with purple color shows built up area, the light yellow is
agricultural area, the light red color is barren land/open space, the green color
shows green areas and finally the water body is represented in blue color. The
change in areal coverage for each category from 1984 to 2016 is clearly visible on
the maps. At the beginning in 1984, Addis Ababa city occupied only small area at
the center of the study area and surrounding Oromia towns were almost non existent.

The map shows that the expansion of the city from 1984 2006 for about 20 years
indicated in yellow and green colors is smaller than the expansion of the city from
2006 2016 in the past 10 years. The expansion of built up area in 2016 is very
special in that it covered the study area wall to wall and increased by a large
amount of land which indicates rapid and unprecedented urban growth of the city
consuming the surrounding non built up areas. This type of urban growth is a
typical urban sprawl increasing in all direction. Fig 4.1 Land use types of Addis
Ababa city and surrounding towns from 1984 2016. Fig 4.2 Overlaid built up area

representing the change in maps, the total area (ha) covered by each category and
its percentage in the landscape was also calculated in FRAGSTATS to quantify the
amount of change (Table 4.1). FRAGSTATS calculates the total area of each
category as Class Area (CA) in hectares and the percentage as Percentage of

Internal controls prevent errors and irregularities from happening. If errors or
irregularities do happen to occur internal controls will help ensure that they are
detected in a timely manner. Internal controls also encourage adherence to prescribe
policies and procedures. Internal control are also put into place in order to protect
employees by outlining tasks and responsibilities, providing checks and balances, and
also from being accused of misappropriations, errors and irregularities. There are

Virus detection software must be updated on a regular basis to help protect honesty
of systems. Hardware and passwords have to be changed sporadically and carefully to
protect from unapproved access to database, computer systems, etc. Distinctive
physical and software controls should be established for systems having delicate and
/or confidential information. With accurate execution, anti fraud hotlines can be very
helpful in preventing and detecting fraud and removing inadequacies in your
business. It prompts your employees that even though management is not
everywhere, employees and stakeholders function as the eyes and ears of
management, giving your company an added layer of protection. The first step to
implementing a fraud hotline is marketing. When marketing the hotline first one
needs to sit down with employees to discuss the prpgram. Employees do not want to
feel like someone is out to get them. Using posters with the hotline number can be
very helpful. Employees should be reminded of the purpose of the hotline and when
they should call. The second step is stress confidentiality. It is very important to let
employees know that the information given to the hotline will remain confidential.
The hotline should be staffed with live operators who have been trained in these
types of calls.

Ibo People Essay examples
* The Ibo people have a civilized community because they have an organized
structure to their society with rules and laws. A society that employs morals, ethics,
and accountability for peoples actions cannot be considered savage. The Ibo are
highly religious; the base of most of their daily life revolves around religion, whether
it is how they raise their families or how they grow crops, such as yams. * In a
savage setting, the parents would usually not bother to educate their children or
abandon them at a very early age to fend for themselves. In the Ibo culture, the
children learn socially complex skills, morals and discipline, which shows evidence

Intro: The Ibo people have a civilized community because they have an organized
structure to their society with rules and laws. A society that employs morals, ethics,
and accountability for peoples actions is not uncivilized. The importance of religion
and communication, showing through art and music, shows their advanced mindset
as a whole society. The Nigerian country also shows these qualifications, despite
many beliefs that African countries are uncivilized, they are civilized as well. Family
must play a large part in the civilized culture. This shows civilization by explaining
how each member in a society is watched after and taken care of. Religion also
must be taken seriously, and there must be a majority of one religion in a society, or
else the culture is too diverse. This separates them from each other, halting any
possible growing as a civilization.
Sociologist/Cultural Body Paragraph: The Ibo have a highly religious culture; the
base of most of their daily life revolves around religion, whether it is how they raise

Funny Persuasive Essays

  • 1. Funny Persuasive Essays Crafting a funny persuasive essay might seem like a lighthearted task at first glance, but delving into the intricacies of humor combined with the art of persuasion presents a unique set of challenges. The difficulty lies in striking the right balance between humor and persuasiveness, ensuring that the comedic elements not only entertain but also serve the purpose of convincing the audience. Finding the perfect blend of wit, satire, and a compelling argument can be akin to walking a tightrope. While humor is an effective tool to engage readers, it's crucial to avoid crossing the line into offensive territory. Striking that delicate balance requires a deep understanding of your audience, as what one person finds amusing might be off-putting to another. Moreover, constructing a funny persuasive essay demands a keen awareness of the topic's nuances. The challenge lies in identifying the humor inherent in the subject matter and leveraging it to drive the persuasive message home. This necessitates a creative approach to both humor and persuasion, requiring the writer to think outside the conventional boundaries of essay writing. Additionally, maintaining coherence in the essay becomes pivotal. Ensuring that every joke, humorous anecdote, or witty remark seamlessly aligns with the overarching argument can be a formidable task. The essay should not only induce laughter but also strategically deploy humor as a tool to strengthen the persuasive elements, making it a cohesive and effective piece. In conclusion, while writing a funny persuasive essay may sound like a delightful endeavor, the process is far from a walk in the park. It demands a delicate balance of humor and persuasion, a keen understanding of the audience, and a creative approach to both the topic and the art of writing. Successfully navigating these challenges, however, can result in an essay that not only entertains but also leaves a lasting impact on the reader. • 2. Imperialism In Florida Florida joined the United States as a state on March 3, 1845; the 27th state. Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Northeast Florida to claim Florida for Spain. He named the state in tribute to Spain s Easter celebration known as Pascua Florida , or Feast of Flower. Soon after, it was known as the sunshine state. In the 20th century, tourism became Floridas leading industry and has remained this way today. The Spanish had great expectations of Florida despite of the obstacles they had to face, although some obstacles became successful in Florida. The French Settlement of Florida began in 1562 and found themselves on the St. Johns River not far from the Spanish settlement at St. Augustine. Cpt. Jean Ribaut was sent from Spain... When Menendez finally arrived, his first goal was to kick the French out of Florida and take ownership of the land from the French. He started out by building a fort in St. Augustine and prepared his men for battle. Ribaut returns to Florida and attempts to attack the new Spanish colony and capture St. Augustine. But the storm prevented Ribaut from returning to Florida. Menendez then traveled north and attacked Fort Caroline surprising the French defenders. Menendez won the battle, destroyed all the forts built by the French and even went out at sea to destroy Ribaut s ships including Ribaut himself. Menendez became the first Spanish colonial governor in Florida and wanted to confirm that all of Florida remained under the control of Spain. Menendez and his men built many watch towers to use as lookouts. Menendez also began building forts along the coast. He requested to import settle farmers and carry 500 settlers (Gannon, 51). He promised: I will give them lands and east states for their farms, a dozen cows with one bull, two oxen for

When I was a kid, Machines were mysterious to me, to be completely forthright, it is as yet the same. Whenever I visited my grandfather s machine shop then, those lifeless creatures always enchanted me. In fact, my adolescence was surely brimming with doing all the fun things, at least to me. Splitting a toy, then dismantling its motors, later use them to make a water boat electric fan was my regular activity. Since machines had lured me all my life, it was an obvious decision to choose mechanical engineeringas my future endeavor. Now, after completing graduation from the Islamic University of Technology, a top tier (OIC Affiliate) and only international University of Bangladesh, I would like to pursue a career accomplishing a Ph.D. in the field of Mechanical Engineeringas an ardent Mechanical Engineer. My personal interest, academic performance, brief exposure to research, professional experience and inquisitiveness led me to believe that it would not only allow me to expand my knowledge but also would give me the opportunity to obtain my eventual objective of taking up a research oriented career in the field of mechanical engineering. As undergraduate students, we have been exposed to a variety of subjects in this field, thus it would be difficult to specify certain research area(s), but over the years I have been greatly fascinated by the fields of intelligent systems and robotics especially the
  • 4. A Case Of Assisted Suicide By Jack Kevorkian People have different ideas of a good essay. Essays that are interesting to the readers. For an essay to be considered a good essay, it has to be entertaining, the readers should be able to picture an image in their mind. For many others, they may have different ideas about what a good writer is. For example, I don t like it when writers give out too much information. They will describe things and go on and on about it. Others might like this, but I don t like it when the writers do this. Most writers have one of the qualities that I think makes a good writer. They don t have to have all three qualities for me to think that it s a good essay. Essays should be entertaining, it doesn t have to be humorous. It can be interesting,... I don t like things that are graphic but he makes it interesting. Both of these authors kept their readers interested in the essay and kept the readers entertained by the way they wrote. They both kept me interested in their essays. Another quality a writer should have in his or her paper is giving examples or things that the readers would find useful and use it themselves. In William Zinsser s The Act of Writing: One Man s Method he gives a lot of information on writing a paper and how to improve my writing skills. He talks about editing, cutting and revising (166). The one that I use the most, after learning from him, is the bracket method. He says that, The brackets might surround the little qualifiers... sentence that... repeats what the previous sentence... (167). I use the brackets idea and it makes my essay a little better. It really helps me to see what I had already said in the other sentence, so I can change the sentence or delete it. Another writer that gives out good information is Lewis Thomas. In Notes on Punctuation , Thomas talks about all kinds of punctuation. He gives information on the parenthesis, semicolon, colon, dash, comma, exclamation and quotation marks. Before I read his essay I didn t know what or how to use a Vue 3 semicolon. A semicolon tells you that there is ... some questions about... preceding full

I will try to explain Emersons philosophy, according to what I think he is the central theme in all his works. Do not seek answers outside yourself This is the main idea of Waldos philosophy. That by interacting with nature people learn not only what is practical but also what is good; for Emerson the nature and the soul are perfectly complementary. A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from with in, more than the lustre of the firmament of bards and sages. The setting of her book is Maycomb, Alabama. Racism between white and black people was a very big problem in Maycomb. The white people did not like the blacks and thought they were bad people. Boo Radcliff killed Bob Ewell and the Sheriff saw it, but he changed the story to say that it was an accident because he knew Bob Ewell was evil and that Boo was a good man. The Sheriff s decision was another reminder about the titled of the book, To Kill a Mockingbird because Boo was a Mockingbird character just like Tom. Harper Lee also showed a conflict between good and evil by using the characters in her story. She showed the conflict inside a man s own conscience when Atticus had the courage to stand up for Tom. The Sheriff also had goodness in his heart when he decided to not tell anyone what he really saw when the Boo Radley killed Bob Ewell. Another example of conflict within Atticus heart was his fear for his children s safety versus his belief that it was the right thing to do to be Tom s

For example, affirming another person s culture reinforces that identities are multiple and grow in spurts. There are similarities and differences in family and cultural group histories. Lastly, many people need explanation in an intercultural relationship, which may lead to multicultural identities. All of these things directly affect one another, specifically intercultural relationships. Consequently, an intercultural relationship contains all of these concepts. One challenge many people face in intercultural relationships is affirming the other person s culture. This means that we need not only to recognize that the other person might have different beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes, but also to accept those characteristics as an important part of the other s identity. Foster s Is That a Symbol this quote explores the idea that there is a larger aspect when it comes to a symbol s meaning. The idea of symbolism isn t solely a definition, rather it allows for each to be unique, whether that is the rivers in both Hart Crane s, and T.S. Elliot s poems, or the symbolic meaning of a white flag. Foster not only defines a symbol, but he goes in depth about how one interprets a symbol, which in the end promotes the idea of individuality. Elliot s The Waste Land. Each author highlights the meaning of rivers; Crane begins with the East River, which then grows into the Hudson and onto the Mississippi and Eliot with the River Thames. To each author the river has a distinct meaning. To Eliot, the River Thames is symbolic of the collapse of western civilization, which doesn t factor into Crane s piece. In The Waste Land, Eliot like most British poets immortalize the Thames. Despite how he depicts this, in the modern world it is just a dirty river. Eliot s background causes him to symbolize the Thames differently than a reader would in the U.S. Similarly, a reader outside of the U.S. will symbolize the East, Hudson, and Mississippi Rivers completely different than Crane and other Americans. Foster believes that the connection in how one interprets a symbol, and their personal background goes hand in hand. Otherwise, everyone would connect the Thames to Eliot s beliefs, or the Mississippi and Hudson according to Crane s ideas. Rather Foster believes that it is important for a reader to have the freedom to interpret the text

The proof of the first cause is usually used in pointing out that there must be some unmoved mover at the source of all change in this universe. However, this proof has since been discredited, since it relies on a faulty understanding of causation which assumes, among other things, that all causal chains must have a first term. Eli Whitney is known for inventing the cotton gin and promoting interchangeable parts. Did Whitney deserve praise for the cotton gin and the idea of interchangeable parts? Yes, his cotton gin increased cotton production and interchangeable parts allowed faster assembly lines. Whitney met Catherine Greene, a widow of a Revolutionary war veteran and Phineas Miller, a manager of Greene s plantation Mulberry Grove, near Savannah, in Georgia after accepting an offer to study law there. Greene and Miller addressed the lack of production for cotton in their plantation. Whitney created the cotton gin

On June 17, 1775, the Battle of Bunker Hill took place. Fought during the Siege of Boston, it lent considerable encouragement to the revolutionary cause. This battle made both sides realize that this was not going to be a matter decided on by one quick and decisive battle. The battle of Bunker Hill was not just an unplanned, random attack on British soldiers preformed by a few crazed colonists. The battle was the result of struggle and hostility between Great Britain and the colonies for many years. These were not the only incidents that caused unrest to exist between the Colonies and the British. There had been incidents between British soldiers and colonists for some time, due mainly to the Quartering Act. These incidents finally erupted into the Boston Massacre, an event that resulted in colonists deaths and more distrust. These feelings of discontent and the growing fear of an uprising would lead the British to proceed to Lexington and Concord and destroy colonial military supplies. This left the colonists with the feeling of hatred and total malice towards the British. Neither side trusted the other, and had concerns that the opposition would launch an attack upon them. When the British planned to occupy Dorchester Heights on the Boston Peninsula, the colonists became alarmed at the build up of British troops off the coast. The colonists decided that action had to be taken; they had to stop the threatening British movement in this territory to protect them from an attack. It was because of this as well as the many small skirmishes through the years, which would lead the colonies into a confrontation with the British. The Battle of Bunker Hill started when the colonists learned about the British plan to occupy Dorchester Heights. The colonists were unnerved by this news. They, the Colonists
  • 24. Calculus And Similarities Between Newton And Leibniz In order to dive into precursors to calculus we need to understand exactly what calculus itself is. So what is it? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary calculus is defined as a branch of mathematics that deals mostly with rate of change and with finding lengths, areas, and volumes; it is divided into two types: integral and differential. The calculus we have come to know and love has been around for quite some time, dating all the way back to its creation which is credited to Newton and Leibniz. But what if there was an ancient form of calculus before our modern calculus? Many ancient civilizations were brilliant and used mathematics in ways that the people before them never could but is there enough evidence to support the theory that calculus was not simply the conception of the two rivals Newton and Leibniz? According to Dr. John H. Lienhard the bare bones of [calculus] had been hatching before either Newton or Leibniz was born. Ancient Egyptwas one of the civilizations that was hatching the bare bones of calculus. We will discuss the problems the ancient Egyptians were trying to solve as well as the methods or techniques they used and why this leads to the conclusion that neither Newton or Leibniz should be solely credited with the birth of calculus. Ancient Egypt has long been a focus for many of us here in the modern world. With its magnificent architecture, culture, and interesting literature it has baffled the minds of many great thinkers. Software Engineering And Intelligent Systems Essay INTRODUCTION Throughout the year I have learnt about many issues in software engineering and intelligent systems by researching for this report. In this report I will be explaining and discussing these key problems and some key techniques that can be implemented to overcome these for both software engineering and intelligent systems. SOFTWARE ENGINEERING Software Engineering is the discipline of designing and developing software projects so that they behave in an efficient and independent manner while meeting the requirement of the client. Some key problems which arise in software engineering are complexity, inefficient communication and inadequate testing. Software projects are large and take years to make. In order to reduce the risk of failure and keep track of problems, software projects must follow the correct methodology. A methodology is a set of instructions followed in order to develop projects efficiently. In software engineering, a methodology is a discipline which structures a project strongly so that it will succeed. Without a strong structure, the project will start to break down and create big problems for software engineers. KEY PROBLEMS COMPLEXITY Software projects are complex and can crash with the slightest errors. Software Engineering projects take a lot of time and can sometimes take years to code. Some projects are made with over a thousand lines of code, due to this, the chance of error increases. For example, in 1998, a crew member of the USS

It involves anything that is related to the internet and the relationship between technology, images, and sound. It is something that is vastly used in our generation and used throughout the world. New media has completely changed the way people lived and continues to evolve daily. Before there was ever a term called new media, old media or print media was flourishing in our society. Print media includes anything light and portable from books to newspapers to magazines, and could be published once, daily, weekly, monthly, etc. It was a great stepping stone for the new media, even though they are contrasts of one another and competitors today. However, it seems like the new media is dominating, and is causing the old media to suffer. New Media is basically anything that involves the internet and World Wide Web , and an interaction between technology, images, and sounds. They are forms of communicating in the digital world, which includes publishing on CDs, DVDs and, most significantly, over the Internet. It implies that the user obtains the material via desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets (PC Mag). It is an on demand type of access, in which any content could be viewed anywhere or anytime, as long as there is some sort of digital device. There is a brief timeline in which different parts of new media were used. It all started around 1993 when web pages were created. A year later, Yahoo! was

Abstract: Nuclear fusion may be an effective solution to the energy problem in today?s world. Fusion is environmentally friendly and has the potential to generate massive amounts of power. It is evident that the Sun?s power is fueled by nuclear fusion. Recent advancements such as ITER and NIF may bring us closer to being able to use fusion. We find that nuclear fusion is a long term solution to a continuing problem. Introduction: Since the Industrial Age, energy from fossil fuels has become widespread. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists aim to gain knowledge and improve the power output, the time duration, and the energy cost. Nuclear fusion is a process that occurs when two hydrogen isotopes (tritium and deuterium) fuse together. This reaction produces a neutron and also a large amount of energy. However, a massive amount of heat is necessary for the reaction to initiate because the nuclei (which have very strong opposing charges) must fuse together. The temperature necessary for this to occur is over one hundred million degrees Kelvin. When the reaction occurs, the energy is so great that it is very difficult to contain. So far the known methods of containment are magnetic confinement and inertial confinement. The magnetic confinement uses a very powerful magnetic field, and the inertial confinement uses the inertia of the reaction. (Figure 1, wikipedia, ?nuclear fusion?) We will investigate published literature that either supports or reflects if fusion is feasible. We believe fusion would be a feasible source of power if it could produce reasonably more energy that is put in. Results and Discussion There are several methods to create nuclear fusion for power. The most successful is the star, which uses gravity and pressure to fuse hydrogen and create helium. Unfortunately we cannot harness a sun and harvest it on earth for raw fusion energy. However, we can create small reactions similar to that of the sun in the lab and turn the radiant energy

This connects to Michael s love of comics such as Captain Marvel because it allows him to use his imagination to dream up heroes to fulfill the happy ending that Michael dreams of and wishes for in times of distress and pain. This shows that even though it may only seem possible for this to occur in one s imagination, for Michael, a simple spoon in a ceramic box with Hebrew lettering would be the cure for widespread injustice, abuse, and anti Semitism. Still, peripheral blood and tissue miR 193a 5p could provide a certain reference value for clinical lung cancer diagnosis. Since miR 193a 5p exerts its regulative functions through specifically targeting certain target genes, we here collected the possible targets of miR 193a 5p and further uncover the underlying regulatory pathways. A Realist is a person who believes that the word and the people of the word can t change. They believe that we can make the world a better but the people will still be the same no matter what you do to them. For example Mahan was a realist who believed that a man s role in the world is to clime with his country to the top knowing that some one will claim that spot from you in the future. In the history of the united states there were a lot of examples or realist politicians. One of the first and most important realists is Alexander Hamilton. An Idealist is a person who believes that the people can be changed by education and time. An idealist is a peaceful person who believes that we can solve our conflicts without wars. They believe that war is the failure in human evolution and that we should not turn to it to solve our problems because all war is a symptom of man s failure as a thinking animal (John Steinbeck). Woodrow Wilsonis an example of an idealist presedent Afred Thayer Mahana was a great realist, a U.S naval officer and a historian. Mahan was also a professor in the Naval War College and lectured on naval history and naval strategy. Out of his lectures grew his two major works on historical

It s not, but this occurs often nowadays even with laws passed preventing this type of discrimination. In 1972, Congress passed Title IX, which prohibits discrimination against girls and women in federally funded education, including athletic programs (Kiernan 3). Many schools and colleges have not been able to comply with the Title IX standards mostly because of money. When it comes to scholarship money and scholarship opportunity, women are not given a fair chance to live their dreams. br br Young girls dream of, one day, being able to play the sport they adore for the rest of their life. For many adolescent girls this dream many not seem at all possible, perhaps because of their own financial status at home. Scholarships are supposed to provide financial assistance to those who need and deserve to have a superb education. Scholarships could also be used to reward students for their outstanding achievement in the field of sports. Women received $142,622,803 less scholarship support than their male counterparts during the 1995 1996 scholastic year (Wine 2). Women are merely 30% of scholarship money; that leaves 70% of the scholarship money for the men to spend. The 70% of В‘leftover scholarship money certainly does not go to the women s equipment and supplies. br br Determining the compliance for the provision of equipment and supplies involves evaluating six separate things. Quality, suitability, quantity, availability, maintenance, and replacement must all be taken into accord when following a compliance policy (Compliance II 7). Full compliance, in this area, should be
