GLOBAL WARMING
What Is Global Warming ?
Global Warming is the long-term heating of Earth’s Climate System observed since
the pre-industrial period due to human activities, primarily due to burning of Fossil
Fuels, which increases heat-trapping Greenhouse Gas Levels in Earth’s
atmosphere. It is most commonly measured as the average increase in Earth’s
global surface temperature.
Causes Of Global Warming
Rapid Industrialization Energy Consumption
Agricultural Practices
Deforestation Transportation
Resource Extraction
Pollution Greenhouse Gases
Electricity Generation
Livestock Permafrost
Effects Of Global Warming
The major impacts of global warming on our environment are :-
• Global Warming results in high temperatures which leads to droughts, forest fires,
melting of ice –glaciers and etc.
• As temperature rises in the water bodies, the water warms up and it heat the air,
creating hurricanes and cyclones.
• An Increase in Temperatures results to ‘Ocean Acidification’ which is caused by
burning of fossil fuels.
• It results in high concentration of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere which leads to
air pollution.
• Rise in sea level, due to global warming which can lead to submersion of many
islands and coastal areas.
Measures To Prevent Global Warming
The following measures can be taken for the prevention of Global
Warming :-
• Reuse, Reduce and Recycle – Reuse bottles, plastic containers, water
bottles, yogurt cups, etc. Reduce your need to buy unnecessary
products instead of using Eco – Friendly Products. Recycling of
these unwanted things like paper, bottles, aluminum foils, cans,
newspapers, etc. can reduce the wastage.
• Afforestation – Afforestation on a large scale area helps in decreasing
the release of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
• Conservation of energy – Switching to renewable sources of energy
such as solar energy, wind energy, etc. will reduce the use of fossil
fuels.
• Replace Regular Light Bulb with CFLs – They consume 70% less energy
than ordinary bulbs and have a longer lifetime.
