Collaboration with Government for Ensuring Quality Nutrition Services Handout 1
The Support for Nutrition Improvement Component (SNIC) project in Malawi's Ntcheu District aims to reduce high rates of child malnutrition and stunting. It does so by strengthening community nutrition services, improving maternal and child feeding practices, and increasing nutrition awareness. Through peer-to-peer care groups and nutrition education, the project has helped decrease malnutrition indicators and child stunting rates in targeted communities. Beneficiary stories illustrate positive behavior changes and health impacts on mothers and children from applying new nutrition practices.

from adequate nutrition, especially during the critical

During this time, she conducted several activities including visiting female community health workers and 1000 day mothers to provide counselling, conducting health and nutrition workshops, demonstrating preparation of nutritious local foods, and organizing key life events to distribute supplies. She also visited urban health centers to observe operations and interview staff. The goal of these activities was to educate community members on maternal and child health, nutrition, sanitation and family planning issues. Ankita developed several skills including counselling, program planning and report writing.
