Persuasive Essay On Specialized Children
With the warm temperatures making an appearance it actually feels like summer here in the UK
for once. What better time is there to get out on the bikes and enjoy that warm sun. Specialized
have a great range of summer clothing, from super form fit racing jerseys and bib shorts right
across to baggy fit padded shorts and more casual technical clothing. What s more the school
holidays are fast approaching and the kids will soon need to be entertained, we ve got a great
guide to kids bikes right here. From pedaless trainer bikes like the Specialized Hotwalk, to the
650b Specialized Allez Junior for pint sized racers. The need to move perspiration away from the
body during the warmer months is of the utmost importance, which is why Specialized... Show

Balance bikes are a great and innovative way to get children into cycling. They remove the
complicated issues of balancing whilst pedalling, and dispense with the sometimes problematic
issue of stabilisers. They teach kids to balance properly, but allow them to put their feet down
whenever they like. The Specialized Hot Walk is a balance bike from Specialized. As a bike
from Specialized, it well engineered and made of lightweight aluminium, so is easy to life in
and out of the boot! Next up is the Hotrock 16 Coaster, it does have tool free removable
stabilisers as an included option, and still has the lightweight alloy frame, but is still simple for
teaching kids to ride on. The Hotrock 20 adds a bigger frame and 24 inch wheels, it has six gears
to introduce the concept of choosing speeds and simple brakes. It also looks like a real adult
bike to give them the confidence needed to progress. For a little bit more there s a version of the
Hotrock 20 with suspension too, so those first trails can be experienced at a younger age. The
Hotrock 24 ups the ante, with a bigger and more technical frame, more gears and lighter materials.
The Hotrock 24 also comes in suspension versions with up to 50mm of travel, 21 gears, this is
where it really starts to get technical and interesting for the

Spain With Great Hopes Of Returning
Spain with Great Hopes of Returning Euros, passport, driver s license are held tightly in my left
hand while trying to remember where I placed hotel reservations and train schedules standing in
line at JFK Airport. My first adventure to Spain included Madrid, Seville, Grenada, and
Barcelona serving a dual purpose. To replenish the mind and body, while rekindling the soul by
traveling to far and distant lands and expands my horizons is the perfect reward. Awaking in
Madrid, Spain on the twenty second of August, 2007 with my two traveling companions, Doug
my nephew and Terry my cousin. I recall the warmth of the heat on my face departing the airport
via taxi in route to our hostel. The room had magnificent fourteen foot ceilings and grand iron
French doors, opening onto a petite balcony overlooking the hustle and bustle of shoppers and
vendors below. Regardless which direction your eyes skated, there was nothing but beauty
surrounding me. Looking up and out from the balcony my eye catches the rooftop from across the
street elaborately decorated old brick building. The slate had a gray blue tint covering the structure
of a castle tower. Brightly colored tiles were neatly embedded around the curved windows and iron
balconies on any given angle. Casting your eyes below you could see matching umbrellas shading
tables with folks chatting and eating throughout the day. The neighboring side streets were filled
with restaurants, and little boutiques showcasing their

Gold In North Carolina
In 1799, an event occurred in the southern Piedmont that made North Carolina a very desirable
place to live the discovery of gold! Long ago a stone/rock was found in Cabarrus County, North
Carolina by Conrad Reed at Little Meadow Creek. The Conrad family who found this rock didn
t know what it was or who it belonged to or neither did they know what it was made out of. The
family looked at the rock and found out it was a seventeen pound rock made of gold but now
called a golden nugget. After all, they found more gold that came from the creek eventually this
made the Conrad s family and father wealthy and rich. Soon gold was being found in neighboring
counties Montgomery, Stanly, Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Union and people was anxious to find gold

Humphrey Bissell, of Charleston, bought part of the McCombie Mine and brought with him not
only new technology but also men experienced in South American mining. Many of the immigrants
who came to North Carolina during the gold rush were single men young or middle aged,
ambitions, and hardworking. Unaccompanied by women or children, they were able to move freely
from one mining area to another. When gold was found in other southern states and then in
California in 1848, many moved out of the area. The Cornish miners, however, had often moved
with their families. They were known to be skilled, superstitious, clannish, and strongly Methodist.
Unlike the single prospectors who followed the gold to California, the Yukon, and beyond, many of
these Cornish miners and their families stayed in North Carolina, in the lode mining centers of
Charlotte and especially Gold Hill in Rowan County.
The Cornish culture is a unique culture within Great Britain, much like the Welsh or Scottish, with
its own dialect and customs. But because the Cornish also spoke English, they and their
descendants quickly melded into American life, and their cultural influence is not easy to Pinpoint.
The influence that they had on North Carolina s emerging industries, however, is unmistakable. In
the early 1800s, North Carolina acquired the nickname The Rip Van Winkle State , because so
little progress was made that the state appeared to be asleep like that character from

Chaos In The Crucible
Order Leads to Chaos: The Irony of the Witch Trials In 17th century Massachusetts the Puritan
government was a theocracy. They did this to restore order and have a Holy Community. In the
Crucible, by Arthur Miller, people are being accused of witch craft and the whole town goes
crazy. There are a series of trials and multiple people are killed. In the Crucible, in an attempt to
keep order and maintain a holy community greater chaos emerges. In the Crucible, the people of
Salem are determined to keep order and to maintain a holy community. For example, Paris says to
Abbigail, Abigail, I have fought here three ling years to bend these stiff necked people to me, and

For example, Elizabeth tells John, The Deputy Governor promise hangin if they ll not confess,
John. The town s gone wild, I think. She speak of Abigail, and I thought she were a saint, to hear
her. Abigail brings the other girls into the court, and where she walks the crowd will part like
the sea from Israel. And folks are brought before them, and if they scream and howl and fall to
the floor the person s clapped in the jail for bewitchin them, (Miller 52 53). If people don t
confess then they get killed and if a teenage girl faints in front of them then they are found guilty
of witch craft. This displays the opposite image of a peaceful and godly community. People are
lying and being killed for working for the devil even though both those acts are sins. They are so
afraid of the devil yet they are committing his acts. When Mary Warren was being questioned
about lying, Danforth asked her, Do you not know that God damns all liars? (Miller 101). Even
though he is naming God he really means that they will damn her. He is declaring the
government s right to do as they believe God would do. But even though they believes that those
who lie should be condemned he is not condemning the real liars. The real liars are being treated
like saints while the honest and good people are being killed. It shows that their society has
become the opposite of what it was

Living With Crohn s Disease
Living with Crohn s Disease
Sharon is a 17 year old young women, her mother noticed that Sharon had lost a significant amount
of weight, and she looked pale and had dark circles under her eyes. Sharon was complaining of
severe diarrhea, stomach cramps, and after battling this for weeks she was extremely tired. Her
doctor conducted a standard physical exam, and interviewed Sharon about her general health, diet,
family history, and environment.
Her doctor performed laboratory tests of blood and stool matter, as well as X rays of the upper and

Cells move from the blood into the intestines and produce inflammation which is a normal immune
system response. The inflammation does not subside, leading to chronic inflammation, ulceration,
thickening of the intestinal wall, and eventually causing patient symptoms.
The tell tale symptoms of Crohn s disease are abdominal cramps and pain, urgent need to move
bowels, sensation of incomplete evacuation, severe or persistent diarrhea, constipation which may
lead to bowel obstruction, rectal bleeding, fatigue, weight loss, loss of appetite and malnutrition
because the disease causes inflammation of the lining of your digestive tract .Some other general
symptoms may also include, fever, night sweats, loss of normal menstrual cycle. Crohn s disease
can be both painful and incapacitating, and sometimes may lead to life threatening complications.
If you think you are showing signs of Crohn s Disease, loss of appetite, weight loss, and feeling
of low energy, and fatigue, schedule an appointment with your doctor. Crohn s disease in children
may delay growth and development. Remember, only your doctor can render a diagnosis, so seek
medical attention if experiencing any of these symptoms because in more severe cases, Crohn s can
lead to tears in the lining of the anus, which may cause pain and bleeding. Inflammation may also

Gettysburg Why Was It A Turning Point Essay
The Battle of Gettysburg: Why Was It a Turning Point?
July 1, 1863, the bloodiest battle on American soil was just beginning, this battle would be known
as The Battle of Gettysburg. This three day battle commenced with Confederate attack led by
General Robert E. Lee, on the north of the small town of Gettysburg. Union President, Abraham
Lincoln had appointed George Meade as Union commander to counter coming attacks in
Gettysburg. This battle would involve other Confederate attacks, ending with a final Union blow
on July 3. The final attack by the Union was nicknamed as Pickett s Charge . This final Union
charge led to a Confederate retreat, most likely because the Confederates lost many of their
soldiers. This begs the question: Why Was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the Civil War the Confederates clearly had the advantage, all the Confederates
had to do was defend their land. This made the Confederates look most likely to win the Civil War,
however, after the Battle of Gettysburg, the Union had the advantage. The four main reasons:
geography of the major battle campaigns, estimated casualties at the Battle of Gettysburg, and the
battle s aftermath showed this. The geography showed how this battle was the last battle shown in
the North. The estimated casualties showed that there were significant losses on both sides but the
South suffered a lot more. Union President Lincoln also told how the Union was affected because
of this battle.

The Dangers of Underage Drinking
Teens under the legal minimum age of alcohol should not drink, nor should it be lowered.
Researchers say that giving alcoholic beverages under 21 could create a lethal addiction and would
not have the responsibility to drink. If teens drink a certain amount of alcohol it could be lethal by
alcohol poisoning. Alcoholcan enter the blood stream; binge drinkers can ingest a fatal dose of
alcohol before passing out. ( Binge Drinking Can Be Fatal ). The legal minimum age should not be
lowered, teens under 21 don t have the responsibility to get intoxicated and those include car
accidents, homicides, suicides, and other injuries. I m going to tell you why minors should not

First of all, alcohol is a depressant, in other words it controls how slow your body functions. It
could alter with a person s movement, emotions, and vision. Alcohol impedes messages that your
brain is trying to receive. You are more relaxed depending on how much you drink. The more you
drink the more intoxicated you are and the more sick feeling you could get. Depending on the
person, you could either be an angry, friendly or maybe a sad drunk, making you act not yourself.
When you drink, you react to things slower, that s why people should not drive intoxicated.
Consuming too much alcohol in a short period of time can have a result of alcohol poisoning; the
first symptom is usually vomiting. Resulting more symptoms such as extreme fatigue, difficulty
breathing, low blood sugar, unconsciousness, or even death. Furthermore, there are aftereffects,
known as a hangover, in other terms, it s what happens after heavy drinking. An alcohol
withdrawal can usually happen after just four or five drinks to get a hangover, which typically
happens several hours after your last drink. These symptoms include headaches, nausea, fatigue,
muscle pain, or mild anxiety. When teenagers do use alcohol they may not just be affecting their
brain for that night or weekend, but for the next 80 years of their life. ( Henry Wechsler, PhD and
Bernice Wuethrich ).

Once there the fourth, and most unexpected, stage occurs and this is referred to as the reverse
culture shock stage. Upon arriving back, the returning resident will be eager to share their
experiences of another culture that have made them a different person. However, they have
returned to a group of people, and indeed a country, that has changed in the interim. These changes
can be subtle or far reaching, but they will affect the way that the returnee is accepted by, or
accepts, their own host country and its residents. Often the change required will be too great. The
returnee will in many cases deal with this by returning to the host culture or exploring another
culture and language. How can Culture Shock be Lessened? The most important factor in coping
with culture shock is to accept that, however well you prepare, it will affect you to some extent. As
Schumann found in the course of his research, the four stages outlined above can never be avoided,
but the length of time spent in each of the stages can be greatly reduced by taking certain courses of
action.Firstly, the would be immigrant should study the culture and language of their intended

often forgotten. Even having a few words of the target language can help smooth your path in the
early days. Also the realisation that there

Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Farmer
Farmer, the perfect profession?
This article will provide information of what being a farmer is, what is needed to become one, a
common routine and some positive and negative facts of this profession.
A farmer is a person who owns a farm and or takes care of it . Farmers normally perform two
kinds of professional activities: one is related with animals and the other with plants. The first one
includes all the process of breeding livestock, such as cattle, sheep, pig and goats. On the other
hand we have the work of agriculture; it consists on the growing of different kinds of plants for
human or animal consumption and products used for the development human life. Nowadays these
two activities can be performed separately, and that is why this ... Show more content on

Being in constant contact with nature is one of the most common statements made by different
farmers. Seeing a deer crossing happily through the fields is beautiful to see and it is not within
reach of other jobs. In addition to this, you are the one establishing your working hours and your
way of working it is your responsibility to choose when and how you want to work. Contrary to
popular belief, farmers are able to develop their creativity as they can try to perform new
techniques of sowing, for example, or, they can invent new devices to improve their work.
Another important aspect is that your work is going to be different through the years because
every harvest is going to be different from the previous one. Becoming a farmer will teach a lot of
new things, not only about plants and crops, but also you are likely to become a weather forecast.
For example if the clouds of the sky look like stone pavement it is very possible that the next day is
going to rain. Consuming your own harvest is one of the most rewarding experiences and the taste
of your own production is not going to taste the same as the products bought in the

Manipulation in William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew
In The Taming of the Shrew, the concept of love is a means of emotional manipulation, and
manipulation is nothing more than a means of control between men and women. William
Shakespeare critiques the patriarchal social structure by ironically employing the manipulative
stance Petruchio takes towards winning Katherine as his wife by charming her with words and
manipulating her psychologically, and then taming her after their marriage through legal, physical,
financial, and psychological control and manipulation. Though Petruchio may think he yields
power over his wife, Katherine uses obedience as a tool of manipulation and has the control of the
household, as can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he can control the meaning of the words, he can also control the people who use those words.
Petruchio also manipulates Kate psychologically by pivoting her thoughts in the direction of
them being suited to each other for marriage. When he says I am too young for you (Act 2 Scene
1, 250), he starts making her feel old and unwanted. This comment makes her mad, and causes
her to feel the need to prove that he is old, which she accomplishes in the next line by saying Yet
you are withered (II, 1; 251). Thus she unconsciously admits that he is at least suited to her in
age for marriage, if nothing else. By complimenting her, Petruchio is also able to play with her
psychologically. He begins by saying she is beautiful, nice, and modest. Even though he may not
mean it, and Kate probably suspects he is lying, it still has a positive effect on her. Complements
boost her confidence and make her feel wanted, which is a new experience for her. Such
complements eventually lead her to believe that he may actually love her, or that there is a
possibility of love between them in the future. This method of manipulation does have its effects,
because she only opposes their marriage once in front of her father, and after Petruchio announces
that they have decided that she should still be curst [to him] in company (II, 1; 324), but they really
love each other, she offers no counterarguments.

Creativity In Aldus Huxley s Brave New World
Humans have become more creative as time has gone on. This can be justified through different
movements in history, such as the enlightenment age, or the romanticism era. But the change
that creativity may bring can be looked at as a very dangerous thing, as it can be costly or
destructive in some cases. Except that being original and innovative can help move a species
into a more efficient production lifestyle, as Aldus Huxley Shows in, Brave New World of how
such a trait can create a whole new world for the people living within, as well as how the same
ability can be easily taken away. In today s modern society, people are facing similar problems to

Since people s views only go as far as seeing programs like painting, drawing, choir or orchestra to
which can help develop one s creativity as just a distraction towards more important classes, such
as science or math. Though multiple studies prove, Schools with long standing art programs have
higher graduation rates. In many instances, art classes motivate students to stay in school,
especially low achieving students, by fostering closer ties with peers and creating community
oriented environments (Metla). Showing, how schools with art programs can serve as a
motivation for a student s need for success. Not only do programs like art or music motivate, but
classes taught at college levels also show how subjects like, The humanities teach something. Their
subject matter is culture, and since everything human beings do is mediated by culture by
language, by representations, by systems of values and beliefs knowing how to understand other
languages, interpret cultural expressions, and evaluate belief systems is as indispensable to
functioning effectively in the professional world as knowing how to use a computer. This
knowledge may or may not make you a better person; it can certainly make you more productive
and successful in the workplace (Menand). To which, undoubtedly justifies the importance of
classes like the humanities, because there is basic knowledge that can be learned and applied to
one s life. Furthermore showing how many Schools across the country have faced budget shortfalls
in recent years, a common cost cutting measure is to slash funding for arts education, prioritizing
what are deemed more essential subjects such as math, reading, and science (Fang). When schools

Essay on Individual Verses Society in Song of Solomon
The Individual Verses Society in Song of Solomon
Toni Morrision s novel Song of Solomon contrasts the image of a self made individual with that of
an individual who is the product of his or her society. Since society changes, the man who simply
reflects his social environment changes accordingly. But the true individual s self discovery depends
on achieving consciousness of one s own nature and identity (Middleton 81). This is what
differentiates Pilate and Milkman from Macon and Guitar. There are direct similarities between
Milkman s and Pilate s self discovery. They both achieve their individualistic spirit through travel,
literal and symbolic. Not so for Guitar and Macon Dead jr. Where Pilate s and Milkman s self

page #).
Whereas Milkman finds his place and identity through a journey and through self discovey, Guitar
finds his place by immersing himself in society. He grew up with Railroad Tommy and the people
in the Barbershop. This group of men spent their time discussing and complaining about the
injustices that were being done to black men. Guitar reflects the views of urbanized black men,
defiant of white power and authority, and militant in their convictions for change. Morrison
intentionally contrasts Milkman with Guitar to show that the individual is better off discovering
his/her self outside of society. We aren t supposed to like the Seven Days. There is a coldness and
a negative connotation surrounding the barbershop and the Seven Days. Guitar is aware of the
problems of society, but he is incapable of expanding beyond the limited views of the Days, and
eventually this brings him to consider killing his best friend.
The same contrast between individual self discovery and society s conditioning can be found in
two other main characters: Pilate and Macon Dead Jr. Just like Milkman, Pilate traveled

The Stereotypes Of Dishonesty And Flawless Relationships
Growing up, many have experienced that flawless relationship, whether it involves being a
contributor to one or just simply examining others. Watching movies, such as The Notebook, gave
us such extreme hopes as to what to expect when it came time for dating to become a part of our
lives. Sadly, once that time had arrived, dating made an unexpected turn for the worst.
Relationships tend to be dishonest. Having gone through a relationship, I understand what it is like
to be involved in a relationship like so with the person I once thought I could trust. Because I was
proven wrong, involving myself in another relationship, especially this early, is going to be really
rare. Having conversed with some friends who have gone through the same instance, they say that
they will probably not jump into another one until their career is set and their life is intact. The
dishonesty is mostly associated with not being told where or who the significant other is with or
just blatantly lying about it and saying they re somewhere they aren t. That idea of dishonesty tags

Relevance Of Emotional Intelligence
The purpose of this essay is to explain on the relevancy of Emotional Intelligence in which of how
it is connected in organizational behavior. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) was first introduced to the
public in 1995 by a physiologist named Dr. Daniel Goleman, even other sources were aware that it
may have discussed earlier to date as of 1985. According to Goleman, Emotional Intelligenceis a
type of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one s own and other s feeling and
emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to guide one s thinking and
actions. In the context of organizational behavior, the EQ principles provide a new way to
understand and assess people s behaviors, management styles, attitudes, interpersonal skills, and
potential. It plays an important consideration in human resources planning, job profiling,

It was a hit, being one of the best international bestselling book. Later, Goleman developed the
argument that non cognitive skills can matter as much as I.Q. for workplace success in Working

intellectual intelligence in entirely based on the neocortex, the most recently evolved parts of the
brain. Emotional intelligence would depend much more on the emotional centers of the lower
brain, the more primitive sub cortex. Intelligence is the potential for learning something, and
technical skills learnt depend on the academic intelligence. Emotional competencies stem from the
emotional intelligence of each individual which later defined in structured proposal for the

Insidious injuries are when the links between their causes and manifest symptoms are obscure.
(Calhoun et. al, 2017,162) This indicates that these injuries are described as general diseases as
opposed to traumatic injury that has occurred. With this in mind it makes these types of injuries
hard to define and to understand due to the fact they display as diseases. Insidious injuries have
specific characteristics such as they appear only after a period of time, there are patterns to a
group that are exposed or randomly depending on the individual s level of vulnerabilities. Then it

of boys stranded on an island with no adults. Since then, it has had two film adaptions. The first
adaption was produced in 1963, directed by the Englishman Peter Brook. This version was
filmed in black and white and follows the events of the book very closely. The second adaption
came twenty seven years later in 1990, which was directed by the American Harry Hook. The
second adaption did not quite follow the novel in terms of symbolism, the beast and the overall
theme while the first adaption was more faithful to the novel.

This film was made by an English director, and its cast was entirely English. By having an English
cast, it truly represents the novel in the sense of nationality. All the characters in the novel were
well represented accurately in the film. Compared to American films, English films are more subtle
in their film making. They will not show you the whole picture, but they will hint towards it. In the
film, it is only hinted that Wilfred was hurt by Jack s tribe, but never shown or confirmed.
Peter Brook is the director of the 1963 version of Lord of the Flies. He used many different
cinematic features in his film. The montage at the beginning of the film was expertly used to
show the contrast between the innocence of the schoolboys, to the evil of war and destruction
with the images of rockets and explosions. The montage explains how the plane crashed, with
images of a plane entering huge, dark clouds. This was followed by images of lighting and the
sounds of thunder. During the montage, there is a choir singing a Greek song which is called
Lord have Mercy. This is an ominous hint that that something will go horribly wrong on the
island. To show the thoughts of his characters, Peter Brook used actions to convey thoughts.
When Ralph is talking at an assembly, the sound of wood being hacked at is heard. It is revealed
that Jack is hacking at his spear with a knife. This conveys the thoughts of Jack, it shows the
violence and savagery that he will be apart

Reflective Essay About Rap
I caused myself to miss out on a possible great experience with music. Since the start of 2016, a
new rap era called Mumble Rap caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who
predominately used adlibs in their songs along with extremely low rapping ability. Well known
mumble rappers are: Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Famous Dex, Kodak Black, and
Desiigner. I joined this wave of not liking mumble rap to make myself seem better and more
knowledgeable to this who listen to mumble rap. I would always say that I only listen to lyrical
people, except for Lil Wayneor Mumble rappers are trash and I do not like that . You will usually
see me criticizing people who listen to this new music because I felt as though the music was
poisoning to our minds. Contrary to what I was saying, these were not my true feelings. The
only reason I said these things was because I followed the thoughts and opinion of the much
older people of the hip hop audience. I wanted to be all high and mighty as those individuals and
show that I too also enjoyed the rap era from the 1990s to early 2013. Although I preached about
how bad this new rap era is and the kind of music I listen to, no one pictured me how I pictured me.
I began to notice more and more often, so I began to feel less dislike for the new rap and eventually
not care if it is played around me. I would here one of the mumble rapper s song on the radio and I
would find myself liking it. If I am by myself, I would look

Rebel Without A Cause Pop Culture
Midterm paper: Pop Culture: Sex, Drugs, Rock Roll. Rebel Without a Cause led way to the first
on screen teenage bad boy. James Dean plays a disgruntled teenager (Jim) is unsatisfied with life
and the patriarchy of following the rules. He hates that his dad lets his mom run the household
and caters to her versus the traditional father makes all the rules stance. Rebel Without a Cause
allows for a deep consideration of what the stereotypical 1950s teenager felt. The movie looks at
teenage relationships with the older generation and exclaims the disdain both parties share for
one another during the tremulous coming of age time. Jim s parents are not sure how to raise
him the best way, and he loses respect for them judging on how they interact with him and each
other. The other main teenage characters within the film are Judy portrayed by Natalie Wood,
and John Plato Crawford portrayed by Sal Mineo. Natalie Wood s character is probably
reminiscent of what many young female teenagers went through at the time. She deals with
gender issues and must find her way as a developing young woman when her parents seem
clueless to her concerns and struggles. Her father does not know how to guide her through this
next stage of life and instead turns her away which causes her to feel bad about herself. Her
Mother has no real clue on how to help either of them as well. Plato is also a striking character
within the story that is utterly confused and has no real guidance in life. All three

The Tea Act of 1773 was a British Law, passed by the Parliament of Great Britain on May 10,

Impact Of Corporate Social Responsibility On A Company s...
To what extent is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) beneficial to a company s performance?
Sub prompt: Evaluate how CSR can be beneficial to company s financial performance.
1. Introduction Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become more influential when making
company s decisions. 53% of the S P, an index based on market capitalizations of 500 U.S.
companies, has published CSR reports in 2012 as compared to 19% in 2011. An approach,
suggested by Business for Social Responsibility, considers CSR as attaining commercial success
through respecting people, community and the natural environment. McWilliams Siegel (2011)

Section three comments the limitations of empirical findings and CSR.
2. Impacts on Financial Performance
2.1 Cost Companies committed to CSR are expected to reduce operating costs. One of the key
areas in CSR practices is paying attention to environmental issues such as energy saving and
avoidance of excessive use of inputs. The promotion of resource efficiency including using less
energy and water lower the utility costs. Nonetheless, a reduction in the use of packaging materials
helps to reduce production cost.
Brand equity has been viewed as the most crucial intangible assets of the company. Cornell and
Shapiro (1987) suggested that the firms are able to establish reputation capital if they adopt
CSR measures. Customers are more willing to spend on products that are produced by
companies with good brand images. An adverse example has illustrated the importance of brand
image with the scandal of Primark, a well known fast fashion clothing chains. The clothing
retailer is found to break its code of conducts and employ illegal workers in poor working
conditions. When BBC revealed the dishonored behavior, it cost Primark millions of dollars in
information and advertising campaigns to restore consumer loyalty. It implies that a socially
responsible firm that follows CSR practices can have less risk of negative rare events and thus
avoid unnecessary cost.

Importance Of Hard Work Essay

They have always implemented to do my best at school so I can have a better future. They knew

to care a lot about my grades, and how to make my work better. I personally started caring about
my grades when I was in fourth grade. She was unquestionably gifted in language arts and she

realized language arts is my weakness. Sometimes it is hard looking for weaknesses. Nobody likes
to admit they have flaws. It s hard sometimes to fix flaws, goals and hard work is needed. Yet,
every step to reach the goal is needed.

Since this change there has been a significant increase in drug related offences, a problem that the
public health department has been unable to control. The parties and the festivities of the World
Cup will be sure to increase illegal drug sales and consumption, without the funding to keep the
issue under control. The money the nation is giving to FIFA for the World Cup could be used to
better train law enforcement officials and establish security programs that would keep citizens safe.
Brazil has become a nation that cannot provide the proper security for its citizens, but is quick to

level of education due to the lack of amenities and resources. Children in wealthier cities receive
much better schooling because the education system is based on the area the students live in. This
inequality causes some children to feel like school isn t worth their time, and instead spend their
days at home or working in a child labor job. Attendance issues have been a result of poverty, many
malnourished children don t attend school because it is difficult for them to adjust

Animal Testing Argument Essay
In 2014 the University of Sydney killed eight marmosets to study the retinas from eight eyes and
explore a type of cell that exists in the eye. The study states that only one eye was used from each of
the marmosets and whilst the study allowed them to better characterize the cell, it did not
contribute to any medical advancements for humans (Humane Research Australia, 2016). This
inhumane treatment of animals makes one wonder about the ethicality of these animal research
experimentations. Animal testingis a global ethical issue because it negates the dignity of animals.

Social And Political Views Of Democracy
Democracy offers people the chance to be involved citizens rather than unreceptive subordinates.
However, this right doesn t come unchallenged. Citizens are required to assess a broad range of
political subjects (such as candidates, parties, and policies) and then combine and simplify their
likings in a way that allows them to choose on voting decisions. So, how are these challenges met?
In the United States, some citizens are conservative Republics, some are liberal Democrats, and
others fall in between or outside the two. Recent studies have proposed that these recognitions play
an important part in voting behavior and political perception. Recently, however, more studies have
accumulated advocating for two meager assumptions in regards to this study: that liberal
/conservative identifications are bipolar in meaning and that underlying this bipolarity is cognitive
meaning based on political issues (Conover, Feldman, 265). These variances in political positions
are called political attitudes, and fall on a spectrum between extremely liberal and extremely
conservative. Broadly speaking, this spectrum distinguishes what someone believes about social
issues and governments role in society. These beliefs are formed by a variation of aspects, which
can include family, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and region. Even things
like behavior, core ideals and values, and ideologycan affect people s political attitudes.
However, these opinions are not set in

Compare And Contrast Esther And Daniel

Joseph as well as Esther, Mordecai, and Daniel all rose to a position of power in a foreign

all of the other women who wanted to be Queen. Daniel also was the favorite of King Baltassar.

The Question Of Human Existence
The question of human existence is a lingering theme in modern philosophy. This controversial
inquiry has led philosophers on tangents about whether or not the mind is separable from the body.
RenГ© Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea.
The 17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the
belief in knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. In a time when many
philosophers backed up their arguments with religion, Descartes trusted in nothing more than logic.
Due to rapid new discoveries in science, that were proving many old theories to be wrong,
Descartes believed philosophy needed a fresh start. This fresh start would... Show more content on

Descartes decides to try to build his foundation on this notion of ridding himself of bias opinions
and allowing himself to fall into a whirlpool of doubt. He receives this idea by reminiscing on
past beliefs that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example,
children believe in Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find
something he could deem as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that
will help discover if we indeed exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether
we exist, Descartes began by observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins
by stating, Surely whatever I had admitted until now as most true I received either from the
senses or through the senses (60). He then goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the
senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of prudence never to place our complete trust in
those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in this argument is to show that our
knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past our senses have fooled us.
Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our senses have been wrong
countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to our sense of sight.
One could not see past the horizon, therefore the earth must be level with our eyesight. Science then
proved this

Online Degree Programs versus Residential Degree Programs...
Assignment Our assignment was to research benefits for online degree programs and benefits for
residential degree programs. We are then supposed to tell our stance on the issue.
I There are many reasons for online degree programs. My class came up with numerous good, solid
reasons in favor of getting a degree online. They are as follows:
Less costly
No commuting
Ability to work classes around schedule
More focused use of time
Specialized degree programs (with no general education requirements)
Credits transfer
Flexibility in completing assignments
Don t have to sit in a classroom
Faster completion possible
No campus drama
Same quality education as face to face
More career options
Interactive and engaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For flexibility, we realized that the student would have flexible classes. They would be able to
work whenever they needed to wherever they needed to. For example, if an online student had a
job, family, or both, they would be able to pursue their degree while also taking care of their family
or working. They would be able to complete their classes wherever there was an Internet connection.
My last category was student experiences, and numerous reasons fit under this heading. To begin,
there are actually more interactions with students when they take an online class because they need
to interact with the teacher and other students more. Online classes also teach students discipline
and time management skills since the work load is done on their own time. There are numerous
reasons for online classes; my class came up with copious reasons and then I categorized the reasons
into four key components: money, opportunities, flexibility, and student experiences.
II My class listed many online sources where they found helpful information regarding the
benefits of residential colleges. Combining some of my class s resources and some I found on
my own, I came up with one major benefit of residential colleges: most of the learning in college
happens outside the classroom and residential colleges allow that type of learning to flourish. One
way that students learn outside the classroom is by doing group projects. While online students can
do group work, they do not have

Digestive Diseases And The Digestive Tract
Digestive diseases are disorders of the digestive tract, which is sometimes called the gastrointestinal
(GI) tract (Eisner, 2014). The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a flexible muscular tube that extends
from the mouth, through the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and rectum to the
anus (Whitney Rolfes, 2012). During digestion, the body breaks down foods into nutrients to
prepare for absorption. During absorption, the cells of the small intestine take the nutrients and send
them to the blood or lymph cells (Whitney Rolfes, 2012). After absorption, the body uses the
nutrients for energy and building blocks for the cells. The digestive tract consists of: the esophagus,
stomach, large intestine, small intestine,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some experience mild symptoms only happening occasionally after eating a certain food but many
struggle with severe symptoms on a daily basis, leading them to consume large amounts of antacids
to try and get relief.
Acid reflux is very common. The American College of Gastroenterology says that over 60 million
Americans experience heartburn at least once a month and at least 15 million as often as daily
(MacGill, 2015).
Acid reflux occurs when some of the acid content of the stomach flows back up into the esophagus.
The stomach contains hydrochloric acid, which is there to help aid in digestion and to protect
against harmful bacteria. The gastroesophageal sphincter protects the esophagus from the acid in
the stomach by acting as a valve and not letting the acid back up into the esophagus. At times, the
valve can fail and it allows the acid to back up into the esophagus, thus creating the sensation of
heartburn (MacGill, 2015).
There can be many different causes to acid reflux occurring. Having a hiatal hernia (a hole in the
diaphragm which allows the upper stomach to enter the chest cavity) can be a factor. Pregnancy
can cause acid reflux due to the pressure being placed on internal organs. Lifestyle choices
including: obesity; smoking; lack of exercise; and high salt intake can all contribute to acid reflux
(Macgill, 2015). Eating too much food or eating certain types of

Increasing Population Uncertainty Essay
Increasing Population Uncertainty
Carrying capacity is defined as the number of individuals of a certain species that can be sustained
indefinitely in a particular area. The Earth s capacity to support people is determined both by
natural constraints and by human choices concerning economics, environment, culture (including
values and politics), and demography. Human carrying capacity is more difficult to estimate than
some of the standard demographic indicators, like expectation of life or the total fertility rate,
because human carrying capacity depends on populations and activities around the world. Human
carrying capacity is therefore dynamic and uncertain. Ecologists have often made use of the concept

Many environmental, social, and economic problems either stem from or are increased in
magnitude by the overpopulation problem. With an exponentially increasing population, the
problems created by overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth
in agricultural production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands,
water, and fuel wood supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population
stability not only in the increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas,
countries and individuals must work together to achieve controlled population growth.
The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous
population growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space
available to us. China, home to 1.2 billion people or 1/5 the world s population, is an excellent
example of the kinds of problems that arise in an increasingly crowded society. Trying to
increase the standard of living of its people, China has industrialized and the economy has grown
(Hanson, 1995). This increase in wealth has increased the demand for food in China. The
demand is so great that China went from exporting 8 million tons of grain in 1992 to becoming a
net importer of 16 million tons of grain in 1994 (China News Digest, 1995). This causes a
worldwide grain shortage that raises prices,

The Economic Crisis Of Western Central Banks Essay
Because of the extreme severity of the Great Recession in 2008, western central banks have since
applied a series of unconventional monetary policies besides normal ones. One of the
characteristics of the unconventional policies is the intended near to zero interest rates, so those
policies are also named Zero Interest RatePolicies (ZIRP). ZIRP are designed to help the financial
market escape from the liquidity trap , a situation in which normal expansionary monetary
policies fail to decrease interest rates below zero and thus become ineffective. Without a doubt,
ZIRP are necessary tools for policymakers to intervene in the financial catastrophe of 2008;
however, even though the recession has officially ended in June 2009, ZIRP are still in effect
now. The application of ZIRP in the US demonstrates the necessity of the Federal Reserve (FED)
for both monetary and fiscal policies in the regulatory system. However, ZIRP are in fact
encouraging institutions and individuals to seek risks rather than avoid them, and the
accumulating dangers as a result make ZIRP necessary to protect the financial market and the US
Treasury from greater destruction. Therefore, people are trapped in a downward spiral, and the exit
and economic recovery are postponed.
The negative effects of ZIRP begin from an unequal distribution of new money inflows. In the US,
quantitative easings (QEs) and Fed loans were first targeted at large financial institutions.

teaching your child to regularly brush and floss now, you can help him or her avoid many dental

It is not unusual for a parent to doubt the necessity of flossing for a child. This could be a tragic

Why Flossing Is Important: Brushing every day is essential, but it isn t as effective as daily

History of the Company
The CEO and CCO of the company founded UnderWater Tempo in 2015 in Chicago, Illinois.
The main Headquarters of the company is located in Chicago. There are three sub divisions that
are located in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and Dallas. The CEO and CCO met in college while
attending Harvard University in 2000. Our staff developed on campus when we put a flyer asking
for student creative minds. Sara, Fiona, and Juan were the selected students to participate, and now
they are full time employees. Our product came to be when people started wondering about
speakers for their pools. The product finalized September 10th, but has not hit the stores yet. Our
main shareholders are Cheryl Group. They are a multinational private equity that is also a
shareholder of Beats by Dre.
PRODUCTION DISCUSSION
The problem with regular speakers is that they can easily be ruined after getting wet. The
BlueWave is this generation s new form of technology, allowing your music choices to be
limitless. The purpose of our BlueWave speaker is to allow our customers to enjoy a day outdoors
or at the pool without having to get out of the water, dry off their hands, and carefully change the
song that is playing.
BlueWave is a waterproof, portable, Bluetooth speaker. The Bluetooth 3.0 allows the speaker to be
operated off your phone, laptop, iPod or other Bluetooth enable devices without having to have
anything plugged

Latinos, Politics, and American Cinema Essay
Latinos, Politics, and American Cinema
Feature films in the United States influence American viewers attitudes on a wide variety of
topics. Americans attitudes toward politics are shaped by films, and specifically the politics of
racial interaction. The history of modern feature films begins with Birth of a Nation (1915), a film
that misrepresents the Black race by justifying the existence and role of the Ku Klux Klan in
American society. From this racist precedent, producers and directors understood that visual
messages, however latent, were a useful means of communicating a political message to a large
audience. After this epiphany, a myriad of films were made for different political causes. Most
films had multiple messages, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stam states that this discourse is beside the point because it is impossible to make a realistic film.
The fact that film watching is an escapist endeavor cannot be denied, but the problem lies in the
fact that modern Western society has to see it to believe it, and subsequently viewers associate films
with a sense of the real. Stam is right in saying that a realistic film cannot be made, but he ignores
the fact that the stereotypes he dismisses had very real political messages in the Wellesera. The
presence of these racial and political messages in films cannot be denied because to a large extent
they account for the racist attitudes against Latinos that persist today in White mainstream America.
Later in film s history, the Chicano resistance movement sought to change the overall racist views
that, by the 1970 s had been embedded in the American psyche. The conservative stereotypes of
violent, sex crazed Latinos had a negative impact on the race s treatment, so Luis Valdez and his
cohorts presented a liberal brand of politics to counter this racism, using films that embraced the
true Chicano cultural identity.
The history of film is essentially one of representation of certain groups, or as the case may be,
misrepresentation. After America s short stint with Nickelodeon type movie theatres, full length
feature films became the norm with Birth of a Nation (1915). D.W. Griffith used the film to
innovate cinematography, but made few compromises to create a

Customers who like to go for holidays as a family will find this membership very attractive in terms
of choice of hotels, tour packages, discounts and various other holiday services. The international
affiliation with Resort Condominium International (RCI) and also International Cruise Excursions
(ICE) give members huge choice when going for a holidays. But because of the unethical
behavior of the sales and call centre staffs who were only interested in their commission payments,
the customers did not receive the proper information which would have made this membership a
top notch vacation club. Sales staffs were trained to close the deals regardless of whether
information given to customers was right or wrong. Senior management also chooses to ignore the
misrepresentation because they were also enjoying the commission generated from this sale. What
was supposed to be a a good vacation club ended up with many problems which ultimately now

Essay on Truman Show
The Truman Show
Manipulation and delusion are at the heart of the movie The Truman Show. Carefully crafted, this
movie portrays television and its producers as producing a fake environment with a real person
designed to appeal to the American masses. The smooth packaging lulls the audience into being in
on the joke, but perhaps the joke is on the audience to even sit through the almost two hours of
bland entertainment.
In fact, the story of Truman Burbank is small town boring, taking place on Seahaven, a diminutive
island. Truman believes that he is an insurance broker with a loving wife, Meryl, a nice suburban
home, and a best friend. Slowly through a series of unusual events, Truman becomes aware that this
quiet, tame life is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Certainly, television is capable of being able to bring that immediacy into the viewer s space.
But most viewers are interested in excitement in their entertainment, which translates into the
format and content of the news as well as direct entertainment. It is difficult to imagine that
television viewers would have watched Truman grow up over almost three decades when even the
most engrossing soap can not sustain a third of that time period.
Perhaps there is a message here about the content of television. Much of what appears daily on
television is boring. Every season, television producers try to sort through what programs will
capture the audience once they define who that audience is. The Truman Story television audience
is presumed stupid for being engrossed in the everyday life of an everyday person perhaps the
subtle question is Truman representing them? (Or us?) Why is Christof, the producer of this empty
story, considered brilliant for reflecting this vacuum of television programming?
Christof is the epitome of the concept of television media executives selling products to an
audience, and securing directly, or indirectly as in The Truman Show (where product promotion
arises from the use of products by the residents of Seahaven), commercial sponsors to pay for the
air time. Christof manipulates all of the components of Truman s life, and the movie audience feels
that they too are

Balance bikes are a great and innovative way to get children into cycling. They remove the complicated issues of balancing whilst pedalling, and dispense with the sometimes problematic issue of stabilisers. They teach kids to balance properly, but allow them to put their feet down whenever they like. The Specialized Hot Walk is a balance bike from Specialized. As a bike from Specialized, it well engineered and made of lightweight aluminium, so is easy to life in and out of the boot! Next up is the Hotrock 16 Coaster, it does have tool free removable stabilisers as an included option, and still has the lightweight alloy frame, but is still simple for teaching kids to ride on. The Hotrock 20 adds a bigger frame and 24 inch wheels, it has six gears to introduce the concept of choosing speeds and simple brakes. It also looks like a real adult bike to give them the confidence needed to progress. For a little bit more there s a version of the Hotrock 20 with suspension too, so those first trails can be experienced at a younger age. The Hotrock 24 ups the ante, with a bigger and more technical frame, more gears and lighter materials. Spain With Great Hopes Of Returning Spain with Great Hopes of Returning Euros, passport, driver s license are held tightly in my left hand while trying to remember where I placed hotel reservations and train schedules standing in line at JFK Airport. My first adventure to Spain included Madrid, Seville, Grenada, and Barcelona serving a dual purpose. To replenish the mind and body, while rekindling the soul by traveling to far and distant lands and expands my horizons is the perfect reward. Awaking in Madrid, Spain on the twenty second of August, 2007 with my two traveling companions, Doug my nephew and Terry my cousin. I recall the warmth of the heat on my face departing the airport via taxi in route to our hostel. The room had magnificent fourteen foot ceilings and grand iron French doors, opening onto a petite balcony overlooking the hustle and bustle of shoppers and vendors below. Regardless which direction your eyes skated, there was nothing but beauty surrounding me. Looking up and out from the balcony my eye catches the rooftop from across the street elaborately decorated old brick building. The slate had a gray blue tint covering the structure of a castle tower. Brightly colored tiles were neatly embedded around the curved windows and iron balconies on any given angle. Casting your eyes below you could see matching umbrellas shading tables with folks chatting and eating throughout the day. Humphrey Bissell, of Charleston, bought part of the McCombie Mine and brought with him not only new technology but also men experienced in South American mining. Many of the immigrants who came to North Carolina during the gold rush were single men young or middle aged, ambitions, and hardworking. Unaccompanied by women or children, they were able to move freely from one mining area to another. When gold was found in other southern states and then in California in 1848, many moved out of the area. The Cornish miners, however, had often moved with their families. They were known to be skilled, superstitious, clannish, and strongly Methodist. Unlike the single prospectors who followed the gold to California, the Yukon, and beyond, many of these Cornish miners and their families stayed in North Carolina, in the lode mining centers of Charlotte and especially Gold Hill in Rowan County. The Cornish culture is a unique culture within Great Britain, much like the Welsh or Scottish, with its own dialect and customs. But because the Cornish also spoke English, they and their descendants quickly melded into American life, and their cultural influence is not easy to Pinpoint. The influence that they had on North Carolina s emerging industries, however, is unmistakable. Petruchio also manipulates Kate psychologically by pivoting her thoughts in the direction of them being suited to each other for marriage. When he says I am too young for you (Act 2 Scene 1, 250), he starts making her feel old and unwanted. This comment makes her mad, and causes her to feel the need to prove that he is old, which she accomplishes in the next line by saying Yet you are withered (II, 1; 251). Thus she unconsciously admits that he is at least suited to her in age for marriage, if nothing else. By complimenting her, Petruchio is also able to play with her psychologically. He begins by saying she is beautiful, nice, and modest. Even though he may not mean it, and Kate probably suspects he is lying, it still has a positive effect on her. Complements boost her confidence and make her feel wanted, which is a new experience for her. Such complements eventually lead her to believe that he may actually love her, or that there is a possibility of love between them in the future. She deals with gender issues and must find her way as a developing young woman when her parents seem clueless to her concerns and struggles. Her father does not know how to guide her through this next stage of life and instead turns her away which causes her to feel bad about herself. Her Mother has no real clue on how to help either of them as well. Plato is also a striking character within the story that is utterly confused and has no real guidance in life. All three ... Section three comments the limitations of empirical findings and CSR. 2. Impacts on Financial Performance 2.1 Cost Companies committed to CSR are expected to reduce operating costs. One of the key areas in CSR practices is paying attention to environmental issues such as energy saving and avoidance of excessive use of inputs. The promotion of resource efficiency including using less energy and water lower the utility costs. Nonetheless, a reduction in the use of packaging materials helps to reduce production cost. Brand equity has been viewed as the most crucial intangible assets of the company. Cornell and Shapiro (1987) suggested that the firms are able to establish reputation capital if they adopt CSR measures. Customers are more willing to spend on products that are produced by companies with good brand images. An adverse example has illustrated the importance of brand image with the scandal of Primark, a well known fast fashion clothing chains. The clothing retailer is found to break its code of conducts and employ illegal workers in poor working conditions. When BBC revealed the dishonored behavior, it cost Primark millions of dollars in information and advertising campaigns to restore consumer loyalty. It implies that a socially responsible firm that follows CSR practices can have less risk of negative rare events and thus avoid unnecessary cost. 2.2 Revenue A numerous empirical findings have revealed a positive correlation between ... The study states that only one eye was used from each of the marmosets and whilst the study allowed them to better characterize the cell, it did not contribute to any medical advancements for humans (Humane Research Australia, 2016). This inhumane treatment of animals makes one wonder about the ethicality of these animal research experimentations. Animal testingis a global ethical issue because it negates the dignity of animals. Citizens are required to assess a broad range of political subjects (such as candidates, parties, and policies) and then combine and simplify their likings in a way that allows them to choose on voting decisions. So, how are these challenges met? In the United States, some citizens are conservative Republics, some are liberal Democrats, and others fall in between or outside the two. Recent studies have proposed that these recognitions play an important part in voting behavior and political perception. Recently, however, more studies have accumulated advocating for two meager assumptions in regards to this study: that liberal /conservative identifications are bipolar in meaning and that underlying this bipolarity is cognitive meaning based on political issues (Conover, Feldman, 265). These variances in political positions are called political attitudes, and fall on a spectrum between extremely liberal and extremely conservative. Broadly speaking, this spectrum distinguishes what someone believes about social issues and governments role in society. This controversial inquiry has led philosophers on tangents about whether or not the mind is separable from the body. RenГ© Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea. The 17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the belief in knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to our sense of sight. The American College of Gastroenterology says that over 60 million Americans experience heartburn at least once a month and at least 15 million as often as daily (MacGill, 2015). Acid reflux occurs when some of the acid content of the stomach flows back up into the esophagus. The stomach contains hydrochloric acid, which is there to help aid in digestion and to protect against harmful bacteria. The gastroesophageal sphincter protects the esophagus from the acid in the stomach by acting as a valve and not letting the acid back up into the esophagus. At times, the valve can fail and it allows the acid to back up into the esophagus, thus creating the sensation of heartburn (MacGill, 2015). There can be many different causes to acid reflux occurring. Having a hiatal hernia (a hole in the diaphragm which allows the upper stomach to enter the chest cavity) can be a factor. Pregnancy can cause acid reflux due to the pressure being placed on internal organs. With an exponentially increasing population, the problems created by overpopulation grow correspondingly. Population growth is out spacing growth in agricultural production and it is putting increasing pressure on erodible soils, grazing lands, water, and fuel wood supplies (Chapman, Peterson, Smith Moran, 2000). To ensure population stability not only in the increasingly wealthy third world areas, but also in the industrialized areas, countries and individuals must work together to achieve controlled population growth. The earth does not contain enough resources to indefinitely sustain the current enormous population growth. For instance, there only is a limited area of arable land and living space available to us. One of the characteristics of the unconventional policies is the intended near to zero interest rates, so those policies are also named Zero Interest RatePolicies (ZIRP). ZIRP are designed to help the financial market escape from the liquidity trap , a situation in which normal expansionary monetary policies fail to decrease interest rates below zero and thus become ineffective. Without a doubt, ZIRP are necessary tools for policymakers to intervene in the financial catastrophe of 2008; however, even though the recession has officially ended in June 2009, ZIRP are still in effect now. The application of ZIRP in the US demonstrates the necessity of the Federal Reserve (FED) for both monetary and fiscal policies in the regulatory system. However, ZIRP are in fact encouraging institutions and individuals to seek risks rather than avoid them, and the accumulating dangers as a result make ZIRP necessary to protect the financial market and the US Treasury from greater destruction. Therefore, people are trapped in a downward spiral, and the exit and economic recovery are postponed. The negative effects of ZIRP begin from an unequal distribution of new money inflows. Stam states that this discourse is beside the point because it is impossible to make a realistic film. The fact that film watching is an escapist endeavor cannot be denied, but the problem lies in the fact that modern Western society has to see it to believe it, and subsequently viewers associate films with a sense of the real. Stam is right in saying that a realistic film cannot be made, but he ignores the fact that the stereotypes he dismisses had very real political messages in the Wellesera. The presence of these racial and political messages in films cannot be denied because to a large extent they account for the racist attitudes against Latinos that persist today in White mainstream America. Later in film s history, the Chicano resistance movement sought to change the overall racist views that, by the 1970 s had been embedded in the American psyche. The conservative stereotypes of violent, sex crazed Latinos had a negative impact on the race s treatment, so Luis Valdez and his cohorts presented a liberal brand of politics to counter this racism, using films that embraced the true Chicano cultural identity. The history of film is essentially one of representation of certain groups, or as the case may be, misrepresentation.
