Slimme IT wordt als oplossing naar voren geschoven om organisaties duurzamer te maken. Maar de stap van mooie modellen naar een business case blijkt vaak lastig. Als voorbeeld wordt in deze presentatie de implementatie van IBM’s Smart Building concept bij een Nederlandse supermarktketen beschreven. Gaan milieuvoordeel en substantiële kostenreductie inderdaad hand in hand?
De stichting ICT~Milieu heeft IBM de ICT~Milieu Award 2009 toegekend voor het Smarter Buildings concept dat substantiële energiebesparing en slim onderhoud in gebouwen mogelijk maakt. IBM´s platform geeft inzicht in manieren waarop energieverbruik in gebouwen is te optimaliseren. Hiervoor worden sensoren geplaatst op items als airconditioning, warmtegordijnen, koelsystemen en andere energieverbruikers. Tevens is het mogelijk apparatuur geautomatiseerd langzamer te laten draaien of uit te schakelen. Via de geïntegreerde Asset Management oplossing wordt ook onderhoud efficiënter en daarmee kan de levensduur van apparatuur stijgen.

It aims to address the utilization wall and dark silicon problems plaguing current microprocessor designs.
Greendroid Part2
GreenDroid is an automated tool that diagnoses energy inefficiency in smartphone applications. It executes applications using Java PathFinder to systematically explore their state spaces. GreenDroid monitors sensor and wake lock operations to detect issues like missing deactivation that can cause energy waste. It also tracks how sensory data is used to identify underutilization. GreenDroid generates detailed reports to help developers validate detected problems. It has analyzed 13 popular Android apps, locating real energy issues in just a few minutes per app.
GreenDroid
GreenDroid is a 45 nm multicore research prototype that targets the Android mobile phone software stack and can execute general-purpose mobile programs with 11 times less energy than today’s most energy-efficient designs, at similar or better levels of performance. It does this through the use of 100 or so automatically generated, highly specialized, energy-reducing cores, called conservation cores or c-cores. GreenDroid will serve as a prototype for mobile application processors in the next five to ten years.

De stichting ICT~Milieu heeft IBM de ICT~Milieu Award 2009 toegekend voor het Smarter Buildings concept dat substantiële energiebesparing en slim onderhoud in gebouwen mogelijk maakt. IBM´s platform geeft inzicht in manieren waarop energieverbruik in gebouwen is te optimaliseren. Hiervoor worden sensoren geplaatst op items als airconditioning, warmtegordijnen, koelsystemen en andere energieverbruikers. Tevens is het mogelijk apparatuur geautomatiseerd langzamer te laten draaien of uit te schakelen. Via de geïntegreerde Asset Management oplossing wordt ook onderhoud efficiënter en daarmee kan de levensduur van apparatuur stijgen.

De gemeente koos voor een oplossing om de CO2-uitstoot structureel en continue kunnen monitoren. Dat werd SAS Sustainability Management. In deze track wordt belicht hoe Den Haag zijn CO2-equivalenten berekent en hoe je deze gegevens in deze intelligente applicatie onderbrengt. De SAS-oplossing is in staat te monitoren, rapportages te genereren, ‘what if’- scenario’s te bekijken en erop te sturen.

Het beoordelen van energie-efficiency van apparaten en gebouwen is als het proeven van mooie wijn: verschillende meningen over nog meer verschillende smaken. ECN presenteert haar visie over het vaststellen en beoordelen van energie-efficiency in de ICT.
Energieonderzoek Centrum Nederland (ECN) ontwikkelt kennis en technologie voor het verduurzamen van de energiehuishouding. Het vaststellen van energie-efficiency van technologie en gebouwen is daardoor één van de activiteiten waar ECN zich dagelijks mee bezig houdt. Sinds eind jaren negentig levert ECN ondersteuning aan gemeenten bij het beoordelingen van energierapporten van ICT bedrijven (bouwvergunningen). Deze ondersteuning heeft inmiddels geleid tot een voorstel voor een uniforme beoordelingsindicator (EUE) voor datacenters die inmiddels wordt gehanteerd door de gemeente Amsterdam. Het tot stand komen van deze beoordelingsindicator en de vergelijkingen die hiermee gemaakt kunnen worden (benchmarking) zullen in de presentatie worden toegelicht.

Een zoektocht naar richtlijnen om energieverspilling tegen te gaan, leidt al snel tot de volgende vier publicaties: de EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres, de BITKOM’s leidraad Energieeffizienz im Rechenzentrum, de criteria voor duurzaam inkopen van SenterNovem en het ETNO-jaarverslag. Op het eerste gezicht lijkt het vergelijken van deze bronnen op het vergelijken van appels met peren. Ze hebben immers allemaal een ander doel, dat varieert van informeren tot opleggen. Duurzaamheid staat hoog op de agenda in Amsterdam. Doelstelling is bijvoorbeeld dat in 2015 alle gebouwen CO2-neutraal zijn. Binnen de muren van het stadhuis wordt ook een energiezuinig groen rekencentrum ingericht. Dit nieuwe rekencentrum moet behalve een energiebesparing van 40 tot 60% ook een aanmerkelijk financieel voordeel opleveren. Hoe realiseert Amsterdam deze enorme reductie?

Theo Rinsema is algemeen directeur van Microsoft Nederland sinds 2006. Hij gelooft heilig in dat de baas het goede voorbeeld dient te geven en dat you practice what you preach. Toen Microsoft Nederland naar een nieuw kantoor verhuisde, was dat dan ook de uitgelezen kans om te laten zien welke mogelijkheden de software van het bedrijf biedt voor nieuwe vormen van samenwerken.

De ICT focust zich al decennia op besparingen in het bouwtraject. De keuze voor outsourcing is dan snel gemaakt. Maar daarmee nemen de problemen met organisatie, communicatie en de semantiek
van specificaties alleen maar toe. We blijven focussen op innovaties in het bouwtraject, terwijl 50 procent van de kosten inmiddels
betrekking heeft op het voortraject. Waar productieorganisaties als NASA en Philips al lang traceability van requirements implementeerden om hun producten beter te specifi ceren en wijzigingen beter te
managen, wordt ook nu ook de administratieve ICT langzaam wakker.
De grootste kansen voor procesverbetering,
besparing en versnelling ligt in het voortraject. De sleutel heet Requirement Engineering.

Om de regie te houden op zowel de contractonderhandelingen als de implementatie is Ymere gestart met het opstellen van een blauwdruk ICT-infrastructuur.

Vaak wordt eerst een uitbestedingscontract gesloten, en dan de inhoudelijke aanpak uitgewerkt. Dat is de verkeerde volgorde: regel eerst de inhoud, de commitment en de samenwerking en sluit dan pas contracten af. Eventuele regiepartners moeten daarom al in de voorbereidingsfase worden ingeschakeld.
