Geography Of Spain
Introduction
Spain the beautiful, known for its historic monuments and culture. Spain stretched with amazing
cities and towns complimented with modern and ancient architecture. Not only does it`s architecture
and culture speak volumes, but it`s physical geography is breath taking. My personal interest in the
country of Spain is based primarily on my heritage and being of Spanish decent myself. Spain is one
of the cultural centers of Europe. It`s flag is yellow and red, the yellow emphasizes cheerfulness and
hope while the red represents strength leadership and confidence. The flag was adopted in 1785,

on which part of Spain you are in you are not limited to what you can do. Some areas experience the
typical 4 seasons but at different times of year than we, as in the US. The mountainous areas can
look forward to maritime climate. "A maritime climate prevails in the northern part of the country,
from the Pyrenees to the north west region, characterized by relatively mild winters, warm but not
hot summers, and generally abundant rainfall spread out over the year. Temperatures vary only
slightly, on both a diurnal and a seasonal basis. The moderating effects of the sea, however, abate in
the inland areas" (The Climate of Spain, 2015). Along the coast of the Pyrenees, you experience the

Spain Spain resides in the Iberian Peninsula at the southwestern verge of the continent and is
Europe's third largest nation. This once great Spanish Empire held sway in every corner of the
globe. Many modern countries all over the world can trace their culinary traditions back to those
early settlers. Spain also enjoys a rich and assorted cuisine influenced by its own series of settlers,
invaders and of course the locally available resources.
The body of Spain is composed of a large peninsula surrounded by a ring of protective mountains.
The central plateau of continental Spain is called Meseta, which is bordered by the Baetic,
Andalusian, and Iberian Mountains on it's the south and southeast sides, the Pyrenees on the north,

The Phoenicians with their sauces, the Greeks with their olives, Romans and Jews with their own
cuisine all made an impact on Spanish cuisine. The lands conquered by Spain while it was a world
superpower provided additional resources and expanded the Spanish palate. Above and beyond all
of them, however, the most important influence of Spanish cuisine would be the Moors. The
Moorish invaders ruled the majority of the Spanish plateau for nearly 750 years and introduced the
cultivation of rice; spices such as saffron, cumin, and anise; nuts (especially almonds); and fruit such
as figs, citrus, and bananas. They improved the native irrigation systems, which multiplied the
productivity of the Spanish agriculture and allowed greater access to rice and other produce all over
the peninsula. The Arab Moors even the technique of combining both sweet and spicy foods to the
Spanish palate. These contributions became the core staples of Spanish cuisine, which have evolved

The Spanish built an elaborate empire in the Americas, covering the whole western–coast of South
America, all of Central America, the Caribbean, Mexico, and parts of the United States, including
New Mexico and Florida. It took years of effort in order to set up to colonize this big region and set
up a structured system. The 3 main motives of Spain was "God, Gold, and Glory". With these
motives, Spain was able to conquer an extensive territory. However, the Spanish arrival in the New
World resulted into both negative and positive impacts. Spain did not want to only watch the huge
success of Portugal and not do anything. The Spanish began to focus their attention on exploration
and find a new route to Asia, and sought to rival Portugal. Spain ... Show more content on

It's "system under which officers of the Spanish conquistadores gained ownership of Indian land"

Natives. The Spanish incorporated their law systems to the Native American society, as Natives
started to establishing advance political system and began making alliances with one another, as
seen with the Iroquois. Having slavery gave the Spanish an impression of absolutism and
superiority, which may have lead to the development of national monarchies. Due to the
conformation of new experiences in the new world, Spanish philosophers established some the first
modern ideas on economics, war, sovereignty, and natural law. The greatest effect of Spanish
colonization is culture diffusion, which is the mixing of cultures. Intermarriage between the Spanish
and the Indians prompted another race, mestizos. With them, the Spanish brought their religion and

The Economy Of Spain And Spain
The economy of Spain has taken a downturn in 2011 since the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.
Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is
facing a very stagnant economy. Spain's "unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent" in
2011. This shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things
had gotten better. The October 2015 unemployment report shows that the number of those who are
not working is down to 21.2 percent according to "Spain's unemployment falls, and Rajoy's
prospects Rise" by Raphael Minder. The increase in jobs was mostly seasonal; and created only by
tourist's influence in Spain, not Spanish leaders (Minder). So the major issue presented by the article
is the idea that Spanish leaders are useless, in terms of creating a sustainable economy for the
country. Based on Spain's current situation, it is clear that Spain's current leaders are not making the
economy any better than their forefathers did a century ago, because a lot of Spaniard are not
finding jobs due to the current economic crisis. Again, only history can explain how a dominant
nation such as Spain is now back to the ground state.
Spain's current economic fall was foreshadowed in its history. Although, the economic status of
Spain was not well known in the past, the country struggle under Muslim ruler due to religious

Spain And Spanish Culture
When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the
foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been known
to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world, Christian,
Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture. Starting
around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East, gradually
broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous resistance;
however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap city after
city. Within the newly Arab–conquered cities, other religious groups faced little discrimination.
Additionally, this conquest established the ever–present influence of Islam on Spanish culture. In
this case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious aspects,
architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into the
modern world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to
Spain's rich history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely
influenced by Islamic culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually
retaining influence through culture, religion, and architecture.
At the beginning of the early 700s, Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula began their conquest by
convincing nearby Germanic tribes to surrender; though it was not until they travelled across the
Straits of Gibraltar and attacked around 711 that their expansion truly began. As stated earlier, other
religious groups within Muslim Spain faced little discrimination. This impartial society could be
explained by the Treaty of Tudmir. This treaty promised that "[Christians] will not be coerced in
matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from the
realm" (Treaty of Tudmir). Islamic forces continued their invasion and took control of Zaragoza,
Spain by 714 C.E. In an opportunity to encourage his men, Tarik, a leader in the conquest of Spain

Cloisters In New Spain
The completion of military conquest in the "New World" marked the end of the indigenous peoples'
way of life and made way for Spanish rule under Catholic authority. The land that was conquered
was retitled "New Spain" (Mexico) and the crown hoped to use monastic orders to convert the
populace and establish Christian authority. The monastic orders sent to New Spain helped build the
foundation of colonial life. The founding of cloisters symbolized the "triumph of Christianity over
the pagan beliefs of the indigenous peoples." Convents in particular provided women with a certain
amount of socio–economic power in a patriarchal society. The wealthy patrons of convents, who
were either a family member of a nun or were a nun themselves, used their ... Show more content on

In addition, "18 nunneries in Mexico City had an estimated seven million pesos in properties, liens,
and loans". The majority of these convents were privately funded by the urban patronage, an
economic class which developed in the seventeenth century. The urban patronage started out as lay
patronage of religious institutions that branched out and began building more convents, donated
cash or properties, and established liens on their properties. The cash flow established by the urban
patronage helped establish the economy in the new cities, which in turn made convents more
financially secure. The money given to the convent whether by dowry or donation was primarily
used for the upkeep of the convent. Money that was left over was used to purchase properties that

Cultural Analysis of Spain
**this was written as the first stage of analyizing Spain for the introduction of a franchise**
In the beginning, Spain endured a diversified number of cultures. Around 1600 B.C., the Iberians
arrived in Spain. Migration into Spain continued from Europe beyond the Pyrenees, the
Mediterranean, and North Africa. Following the Iberians, came the Celts. The two cultures merged
and established a distinctive Celt Iberian culture. In 1492, the Moors, a nomadic, Muslim tribe of
North African origin, were driven off of the Iberian Peninsula. Shortly after, several kingdoms on
the Iberian Peninsula merged to form what is modern–day Spain.
Spain is located in southwestern Europe and occupies approximately 80% of the Iberian Peninsula.

Traditional Spanish food consists of fresh ingredients. Seafood, which is consumed within hours of
being caught, as well as meat, are combined with herbs, spices, and lots of olive oil in traditional
Spanish cuisine. Because of the increase in the number of fast food restaurants in Spain as well as
restaurants from other countries with their own flavors, the traditional food of Spain is starting to
decrease but will never be forgotten.
Today's democratic Spain is the product of a long and often troubled history. For much of the
twentieth century, Spain was governed by dictatorships, most recently during the years of 1939
through 1975 under General Francisco Franco.
The government of Spain is one of constitutional monarchy. The nation is led by the Spanish head of
state, King Juan Carlos I, who began his reign in 1975. Subordinate to the monarchy, there are 3
branches of government, an Executive Branch, a Legislative Branch, and a Judicial Branch.
Although Spain is a kingdom, the King is not the leader of the Spanish government. The Executive
Branch is led by the Prime Minister of Spain, Jose Maria Aznar. Also included in this branch are
various governmental positions including the First Deputy Prime Minister, Second Deputy Prime
Minister, and the Council of Ministers. Additionally, the Executive Branch is responsible for
enforcing or carrying out the laws that are made through the Legislative Branch.

The Culture of Spain
Located in the Iberian Peninsula, Spain boasts of one of the most unique cultures in Europe. At
different times, the country has been ruled by the Romans, the Visigoths, and the Moors from North
Africa. Later, the Spanish colonized the Americas and contributed greatly to the emergence of the
New World especially through the impact of Spanish explorers such as Christopher Columbus. The
historical contacts left a lasting mark on this European nation especially in relation to culture, which
has made Spain a popular tourist destination. Among other cultural aspects, Spain is reputed for its
raucous festivals as well as ruby–red sangria. Today, Spanish culture still varies from one region to
the other although there are some common traditions that serve as the nation's iconic elements
(Rodgers, 2002). With its distinctive blend of food, entertainment, art, and social conventions, Spain

Management styles
Generally, workers provide plans, methods, reports, etc, can be complicated and time–consuming. In
order to achieve a particular goal, gathering information required can take a long time. In addition,
in a formal and sometimes very rigid hierarchical structure, time, deadlines and efficiency are
secondary to compare with detail, rigorous logic and perfection of form. However, Spain is no
longer the sleepy country it once was. Although the Spanish tardiness of time perception is not
regarded as inexcusable, meetings often start on time especially in Barcelona and Madrid.
Titles in Spain are very important. The highest ones such as vice president are normally reserved for
very senior executive–level positions. They should not be used as casually as they are in the
America. Rewards and compliments are usually not given publicly in Spain (Going Global Career
Guides. Spain, 2006).
Boss and subordinate relations
In Spain, the rank has its privileges. Spaniards always do business with the most important people
because of their pride and self–importance. Also there is a rigid chain of command that must be
respected. Whatever the field you are in, you must follow a hierarchy which is a proper way for
communicating with particular individuals and an expected procedure.

The Culture Of Spain And Spain
The following is an overview of the culture of Spain.
1. Values and attitudes
Family, including extended family is extremely important in Spanish culture and is the basis of
society. Families provide a social and sometimes financial support network. Increased individualism
is having its effect, however, as families become less close, family size decreases and a respect for
personal preference decreases the frequency of people working for their family businesses (Spain –
Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette).
General manners and customs
Spanish culture is unique in Europe, but similar enough for people to easily adapt. In Spain, men
greet each other with handshakes or hugs and women greet everyone with a kiss on both cheeks
(Spain – Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette). People verbally greet strangers in places like
elevators, shops, lockers rooms, etc. (Hendr). Dress is more formal in Spain and shorts are not
usually worn in public (Priest). When dining, it is important to keep both hands visible on the table
and use utensils to eat most things (Spain – Language, Culture, Customs and Etiquette).
3. Business–specific manners and customs
Spaniards conduct their business very personally. They prefer face–to–face contact and like to
engage in small talk to get to know the other party before beginning a business relationship. They
tend to only do business with people that have earned their trust (Spain – Language, Culture,
Customs and Etiquette). Conducting business

How Did Spain Influence The Conquest Of Spain?
In the late 1400s, when Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon got married, they decided to
join forces and unite their kingdoms. This newly united country was known as Spain. Isabella and
Ferdinand were both Catholic, so they wanted their new country to remain Catholic as well.
Achieving this goal was not originally an issue, but became a major challenge in around the late
1400s to the early 1500s, when the Protestant Reformation began. Protestantism, a new branch of
Christianity, had spread rapidly around Europe. Around this time period, a Dominican friar warned
Isabella that even though Spain was at that time a Catholic country, former Jews and Muslims who

During the Inquisition, hundreds of thousands of Jews and Muslims were either converted to
Catholicism by force, tortured, or killed. These massive groups of people were conquered and
controlled by Spain. This fact gave the monarchs the idea that if they could convert these people to
their religion, maybe they could discover other societies and convert their people. The Spanish went
on to conquer the Incas and the Aztecs in the 1500s, two South American peoples (Herbut).
Although no one can say whether or not these events would have happened even if the Inquisition
did not, the Inquisition certainly inspired the Spanish to set out exploring and to conquer new
territories. Exploration and expanding their empire made Spain a more prominent and stronger
global power. Spain was also able to gain knowledge and insight from visiting these empires. The
conquered civilizations, the Aztecs and Incas, used a form of government that combined religion and
politics. In their government, there was no main leader of all citizens. Instead, missionaries from
various cultures were granted control over areas of land which are now known as parts of Mexico
and the American Southwest (Spanish Colonization). Even though the original reason to come to
these areas was to convert both societies to Catholicism, Spain ended up benefiting from learning
this style of government and they were able to use it to their own political benefits

safer way of life. Because of these decisions, Spain continues to climb the worldly charts yearly,
while becoming a stronger and a more economically balanced country. Spain, officially known as
the Kingdom of Spain, resides inland northwest off the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, and Portugal.
The Mediterranean Sea lines the countries northeast boundaries, and France, Andorra, and the Bay

Unemployment And Globalization In Spain
Spain is a beautiful country with precious people, magnificent background, but you would be
surprised that Spain has been globalized. Globalization is the process by which the economies of
countries around the world become increasingly integrated over time. How is Spain affected by
globalization? It is unemployment. Unemployment is the reason why Spain is going through
globalization in this era.
The rate of Spaniards with jobs has become low during the previous years. According to DW
English, in a Spanish town, it has an equivalent of 80% unemployed. But that is only in one town
this shows that as the whole country if we calculate the population of Spain is 46.56 million and the
total that are unemployed is 2 million people. The difficulties to get a job is twice as hard knowing
there are not load of positions available and most of them have been unemployed for more than one
year. This statement shows us how much in Spain has unemployed people. Another difficulty is to
gain a job which as we can show that Spain doesn't certainly help their people to find a job. With
every day passing by their country is getting into more and more trouble. The unemployment and
the falling value of a dollar are the main concern of the government, but the authorization prefers to
avoid the problem than to face the reality. The media also involve in it, they are forced to stop
showing the real economic situation to the people. But if we look back, it not only one town that has

The fact that Spain uses prejudice decision when checking up on somebody raises the question for
other countries, whether this is right or wrong, as not all countries do this. Therefore, allowing for
conflict among other nations ultimately affecting world politics. Global politics such as the economy
affect my country as the economic crisis in 2008–2009 hit Spain especially hard, leading to the
unemployment of 27% of Spaniards. Low oil or energy prices along with low efficiency in
corporations' which cripple productivity are typical factors that follow a failing economy. When
Spain's economy hit yet another all–time low back in 2011 they suffered from these factors resulting
in lower wages, and high debt not allowing the country to prosper. Then poor employment rates can
have a negative effect on the population as people emigrate out of Spain and according to
investopidia.com 2015 shows no promise of the job market improving. As 50,844 people left the
country due to there being to many skilled workers than jobs. This relates to globalization as it
makes or breaks the economy on a global scale. Globalization is the process by which a business
influences others internationally. Sure, globalization has given some countries more jobs but not
nearly enough and even then, not everyone befits. While globalization allows for the opportunity it
can create an imbalanced relationship between the rich and the poor. Also, if globalization can help

There are many ways to get around Spain. The country is filled with roads, air routes, railways,
ports, and rapid transits. The flag of Spain is two red stripes with a yellow stripe in the middle that

the yellow stripe is a symbol of generosity. The country does have some strange laws. In Barcelona,
anyone seen wearing swimming attire at places other than the beach will be fined. Most of Spain's
native animals are very small. Deer, tortoises, snakes, and bats are just a few of Spain's native

Human Geography: Difference Between Spain And Developing...
In the past, the world has been organized and categorized in many ways. One way in which human
geographers make sense of the world is to divide its countries into two categories – developed
countries and developing countries. Throughout the world today, there are many ways in which a
country can be labeled as a developed or developing country. Developed countries can evolve faster
than developing countries because of a low infant mortality rate, a higher life expectancy, a lower
physiological density, a better economy, and a more successful life. In my essay I will be comparing
the difference between the developed Spain, and the developing Morocco with the topics given
above. In my human geography class we watched a video about the Moroccan people immigrating
to Spain in search for a better life. This is where the idea came from. One reason why the Moroccan
people migrated to Spain is because of a lower infant mortality rate. Infant mortality rate is the
number of infant deaths per 1,000 live ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main things to be labeled as a developed country, is to treat everyone with the same
respect. This can help prevent riots and police brutality. In the video we watched in class, "Europe or
Die", there was a scene dedicated to how there were severe police brutality, and horrible conditions
in Morocco. In one of the scenes, there was a whole group of people in a hospital with bumps and
broken ribs One person had a bump the size of a golf ball on his head from a police officer's
weapon. Police brutality is obviously a major problem in Morocco today. In comparison, Spain
today has very few deaths caused by police. Police brutality is one of the only reasons why the
people of Morocco leave their homes and come to Spain. When the immigrants from Morocco come

The Rise And Fall Of Spain
The Social, Political and Economic Reasons of the Rise and Fall of Spain
During the 15th century, many considered Spain insignificant. However, within a century it became
a world–dominant power in Europe. Although Spain only took a brief time to rise, it was also short–
lived. The rise of Spain was due to its flourishing culture, stable political system and successful
voyages to the New World. On the other hand, its decline was due to religious control, resistance
from other countries and inflation.
The year 1469 held the marriage of two Catholic monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand of
Aragon. Their marriage marked the unity of Spain and the beginning of a joint reign. The duo
imposed a central religion and dialogue for their fellow Spaniards. To reunify Spain's religion they
brought the church in order to control the corruption of the sale of indulgence. They also established
the Spanish Inquisition that helped avoid challenges from the Reformation. It's was originally used
to convert Jews and Islamic Moors, but was later used to punish those who questioned the Catholic
Church. Isabella and Ferdinand's marriage later triggered the Golden Age, which is often interpreted
as the age of learning. It increased the acknowledgement on the arts and literatures in cities and
countless people became artists who later emerged as influential figures. With the help of many
artists, Golden Age successfully uniformed the values of – both socially and culturally – Spaniards.

Culture
Any consideration of Spanish culture must stress the tremendous importance of religion in the
history of the country and in the life of the individual. An index of the influence of Roman
Catholicism is provided by the fervent mystical element in the art and literature of Spain, the
impressive list of its saints, and the large number of religious congregations and orders. The
Catholic marriage is the basis of the family, which in turn is the foundation of Spanish society.
Economy
Spain has traditionally been an agricultural country and is still one of the largest producers of farm
commodities in Western Europe, but since the mid–1950s industrial growth has been rapid. A series
of development plans, initiated in
1964, helped the economy to expand, but in the later 1970s an economic slowdown was brought on
by rising oil costs and increased imports. Subsequently, the government emphasized the
development of the steel, shipbuilding, textile, and mining industries. Spain derives much income
from tourism. The annual budget in the early 1990s included revenues of about $97.7 billion and
expenditures of about $128 billion. On January 1, 1986, Spain became a full member of the
European Community (now the European Union, or EU).

Spaniards usually don't follow times or schedules. In one of the books the author writes "Although

to wait for some of the meeting members to arrive around 15 to 30 minutes late. Decisions are not
usually made in the business meetings; it is mainly for discussions and exchange of ideas. Dinners
are usually more sociable and there is not much business talk; if there is any business talk it should
only be done if the Spanish host initiates it. The business conversations usually take place during
lunch meetings around two in the afternoon. Meetings that are held during dinner are usually held
after nine. This is due to the fact that most places have siestas (break period in which restaurants and
stores close for a few hours) and they reopen late in the afternoon. Therefore, it's a good idea to take
advantage of the siesta and be ready for the late night meetings. If you are the one hosting a meeting

The Catalonia And Spain Conflict
Catalonia, the Northeastern region of Spain, is engaged in a true and realistic conflict over gaining
sovereignty and independence from Spain. This conflict, which is rooted in Catalonian nationalism,
has been ongoing for years and has evolved significantly over time (Alexander, 2014). Since the
conquering of Catalonia many centuries ago, the Catalonian people have worked resiliently to resist
the loss of their language and culture by struggling against assimilating to the common cultures,
laws, and language of its conqueror (Alexander, 2014). Throughout Spanish history, Catalonia has
employed different methods in achieving their goal of independence from Spain. The manifestation
of this conflict has taken the form of protests, laws, political parties, and certain acts of violence
which indicates the severity of it, the passion of its participants, and provides concrete evidence that
this conflict not only exists but is highly prevalent in Spanish history. The Catalonia and Spain
conflict has manifested itself in several different forms throughout the twentieth century. To begin
understanding the manifestation of the conflict, it is imperative to understand the scope in which the
conflict branches from. While it is apparent that the conflict is generally between Catalonia and
Spain, the scope in which this conflict reaches is spread within specific groups of the Catalonian and
Spanish population. According to Bolloten and Esenwein (2015) the scope of the Catalonia and

Christians, in other words all of Spain, were pushed under the Moors' ruling in the first several years
of the eighth century. These Christians were called Mozarabic Christians, and were still allowed to
keep their religion. Even under the Muslims' leadership, Christianity stayed the main belief in Spain.
The Alhambra in Gránada was a fort and castle that protected Christians from uncivil acts of the
Moors. Proof of the Muslims' ruling was the Grand Mosque in Córdoba, which is now a cathedral.
After the Moors' reign of Spain, the Christians gained back their former country. King
Ferdinand and Queen Isabella expelled the last Muslims in Gránada, finishing up in 1492. The king
and queen forced all the Muslims and Jews to convert to Christianity, or leave Spain like the other
religious people. This was known as the Inquisition. The Catholic Church and Spain tortured the
Jewish and Muslim converts to ensure that they were Christian. This would now be know as an
"ethnic cleansing."
Like most religions in Spain, Christians had long been jealous of the Jews. In fact, the
Catholic Church taught that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. The Jewish people
had been prospering economically, so the Christians felt the need to get rid of them. Indeed these
people were kicked out of Spain in 1492 and never officially invited back for four hundred years.

Catalonia, Spain And Spain
For some time now there has been an issue in a part of Spain called "Catalonia" that I think it's
worrying and also concerning the whole country. I'm originally from that part of Spain and I have
spent all my life there before I came to the United States, so this is very important to me and it
affects my life in every possible aspect.
Catalonia and Spain have been not really liking each other for about 300 years now because of some
war events that happened in 1714. But that feeling increased in the 1800s – 1900s when a new
ideological and political movement called "Catalan nationalism" started to appear. That movement
said that Catalonia is a nation and it stands out the own values of its historical personality
(traditions, culture and language). This belief was in a lot of people's minds, but it started to increase
about 10 years ago when both Spanish and Catalonian government had a fight about some laws.
Since that, we could say that the "Independence" has started (we call it like that). Because of this,
constant manifestations and protests have been usual in Catalonia (and usually this acts include
people with posters and pictures insulting Spain and sometimes also burning and breaking Spanish
flags or photos of the King with the Royal Family, etc.) A lot of everyday normal things have
changed too. For example, if you speak Spanish in Catalonia, some people might insult you saying
you are fascist (Their argument is that in Catalonia you should speak Catalan and not

Subjugation Of Spain Essay
The purpose of Muslim subjugation of Spain may still be unknown, but it is irrefutable that it is a
part of Spain's history, and has affected the country and its history, maybe for the better, maybe for
the worse. "For a long period of history––three centuries in much of the country and eight centuries
in the last Andalusian strongholds––Spain was almost completely dominated by the Moslems."
Currently, the majority of Spanish Muslims are former citizens of Islamic countries that have
immigrated to Spain, or Spanish citizens who have converted to Islam. This is because Islam was
almost eradicated due to the expulsion of the Moors in 1609 and the prohibition of the practice of
Islam. But the effacing of the religion doesn't imply that Spain hasn't ... Show more content on

The native Spaniards were very submissive, so conquering the lion's share of the country, as well as
a large sum of Portugal, was simple for them. There is a traditional story, wherein 711, an oppressed
Christian chief, Julian, went to Musa ibn Nusair, who was the governor of Northern Africa, and
pleaded for help against Roderick, the Visigoth ruler of Spain. This story is not universally believed;
it is undoubtedly true that Tariq invaded Spain, but it is more likely that the invasion was for
expansion purposes, rather than in assistance to the Christians. The Muslims easily defeated the
Visigothic Army, and killed Roderick, the Visigoth King, in battle. After the first victory, the
Muslims continued on to conquer most of Spain and Portugal with almost no plight, and almost no
demurring from the natives. The Hispano–Visigoths couldn't counterattack because they still hadn't
joined the two types of people that made up their community. This is why the Moorish Leaders Tarik
and Musa were able to conquer all of the Iberian Peninsula, minus a few Christian areas. The
landowners that they confronted were easily submissive, giving up Catholicism in order to keep
their possessions. By the year 720, Spain was mainly under Muslim

the medieval ages, the government has brought back many traditions, monuments and museums

The Moorish invaders ruled the majority of the Spanish plateau for nearly 750 years and introduced the cultivation of rice; spices such as saffron, cumin, and anise; nuts (especially almonds); and fruit such as figs, citrus, and bananas. They improved the native irrigation systems, which multiplied the productivity of the Spanish agriculture and allowed greater access to rice and other produce all over the peninsula. It took years of effort in order to set up to colonize this big region and set up a structured system. The 3 main motives of Spain was "God, Gold, and Glory". With these motives, Spain was able to conquer an extensive territory. However, the Spanish arrival in the New World resulted into both negative and positive impacts. Unlike the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, where Spain was a global empire, modern Spain is facing a very stagnant economy. Spain's "unemployment rate reached a record of 27 percent" in 2011. This shows that more than 1 in 5 Spaniards is struggling to feed their family. Luckily, things had gotten better. The October 2015 unemployment report shows that the number of those who are not working is down to 21.2 percent according to "Spain's unemployment falls, and Rajoy's prospects Rise" by Raphael Minder. The increase in jobs was mostly seasonal; and created only by tourist's influence in Spain, not Spanish leaders (Minder). So the major issue presented by the article is the idea that Spanish leaders are useless, in terms of creating a sustainable economy for the country. Based on Spain's current situation, it is clear that Spain's current leaders are not making the economy any better than their forefathers did a century ago, because a lot of Spaniard are not finding jobs due to the current economic crisis. Again, only history can explain how a dominant nation such as Spain is now back to the ground state. Spain's current economic fall was foreshadowed in its history. Although, the economic status of Spain was not well known in the past, the country struggle under Muslim ruler due to religious difference between different groups leaving in the country. • 15. Spain And Spanish Culture When examining any culture, pieces of other ideologies and cultural normalities different than the foremost culture prevail, intertwining different cultures together. Spain, historically, has been known to be a passing point for a wide variety of religious groups. During the ancient world, Christian, Muslim, and Jewish peoples coexisted, each ultimately contributing to Spanish culture. Starting around 701 C.E., Muslim forces began to expand into areas around the Middle East, gradually broadening this land mass to reach Spain. Initially, Arab invaders were met with vigorous resistance; however, as time went on, invaders experienced little opposition, allowing them to reap city after city. Within the newly Arab–conquered cities, other religious groups faced little discrimination. Additionally, this conquest established the ever–present influence of Islam on Spanish culture. In this case, Spain adopted Islamic cultural innovations such as: forms of writing, religious aspects, architectural styles, and materials supplied for said architectural innovations. Trailing into the modern world, traces of Islamic culture are evidently intertwined into Spanish culture. Due to Spain's rich history in interweaving cultures, it can be said that Spanish culture is intensely influenced by Islamic culture through the invasion of Arab military in medieval time, visually retaining influence through culture, religion, and architecture. At the beginning of the early 700s, Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula began their conquest by convincing nearby Germanic tribes to surrender; though it was not until they travelled across the Straits of Gibraltar and attacked around 711 that their expansion truly began. As stated earlier, other religious groups within Muslim Spain faced little discrimination. This impartial society could be explained by the Treaty of Tudmir. This treaty promised that "[Christians] will not be coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from the realm" (Treaty of Tudmir). Islamic forces continued their invasion and took control of Zaragoza, Spain by 714 C.E. In an opportunity to encourage his men, Tarik, a leader in the conquest of Spain wrote: "attack this ... The land that was conquered was retitled "New Spain" (Mexico) and the crown hoped to use monastic orders to convert the populace and establish Christian authority. The monastic orders sent to New Spain helped build the foundation of colonial life. The founding of cloisters symbolized the "triumph of Christianity over the pagan beliefs of the indigenous peoples." This newly united country was known as Spain. Isabella and Ferdinand were both Catholic, so they wanted their new country to remain Catholic as well. Achieving this goal was not originally an issue, but became a major challenge in around the late 1400s to the early 1500s, when the Protestant Reformation began. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the Inquisition, hundreds of thousands of Jews and Muslims were either converted to Catholicism by force, tortured, or killed. These massive groups of people were conquered and controlled by Spain. This fact gave the monarchs the idea that if they could convert these people to their religion, maybe they could discover other societies and convert their people. The Spanish went on to conquer the Incas and the Aztecs in the 1500s, two South American peoples (Herbut). Although no one can say whether or not these events would have happened even if the Inquisition did not, the Inquisition certainly inspired the Spanish to set out exploring and to conquer new territories. Exploration and expanding their empire made Spain a more prominent and stronger global power. Spain was also able to gain knowledge and insight from visiting these empires. The conquered civilizations, the Aztecs and Incas, used a form of government that combined religion and politics. In their government, there was no main leader of all citizens. Instead, missionaries from various cultures were granted control over areas of land which are now known as parts of Mexico and the American Southwest (Spanish Colonization). One way in which human geographers make sense of the world is to divide its countries into two categories – developed countries and developing countries. Throughout the world today, there are many ways in which a country can be labeled as a developed or developing country. Developed countries can evolve faster than developing countries because of a low infant mortality rate, a higher life expectancy, a lower physiological density, a better economy, and a more successful life. In my essay I will be comparing the difference between the developed Spain, and the developing Morocco with the topics given above. In my human geography class we watched a video about the Moroccan people immigrating to Spain in search for a better life. This is where the idea came from. • 50. The Rise And Fall Of Spain The Social, Political and Economic Reasons of the Rise and Fall of Spain During the 15th century, many considered Spain insignificant. However, within a century it became a world–dominant power in Europe. Although Spain only took a brief time to rise, it was also short– lived. The rise of Spain was due to its flourishing culture, stable political system and successful voyages to the New World. On the other hand, its decline was due to religious control, resistance from other countries and inflation. The year 1469 held the marriage of two Catholic monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. Their marriage marked the unity of Spain and the beginning of a joint reign. The duo imposed a central religion and dialogue for their fellow Spaniards. To reunify Spain's religion they brought the church in order to control the corruption of the sale of indulgence. They also established the Spanish Inquisition that helped avoid challenges from the Reformation. It's was originally used to convert Jews and Islamic Moors, but was later used to punish those who questioned the Catholic Church. Isabella and Ferdinand's marriage later triggered the Golden Age, which is often interpreted as the age of learning. It increased the acknowledgement on the arts and literatures in cities and countless people became artists who later emerged as influential figures. With the help of many artists, Golden Age successfully uniformed the values of – both socially and culturally – Spaniards. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An index of the influence of Roman Catholicism is provided by the fervent mystical element in the art and literature of Spain, the impressive list of its saints, and the large number of religious congregations and orders. The Catholic marriage is the basis of the family, which in turn is the foundation of Spanish society. Economy Spain has traditionally been an agricultural country and is still one of the largest producers of farm commodities in Western Europe, but since the mid–1950s industrial growth has been rapid. A series of development plans, initiated in 1964, helped the economy to expand, but in the later 1970s an economic slowdown was brought on by rising oil costs and increased imports. Subsequently, the government emphasized the development of the steel, shipbuilding, textile, and mining industries. Spain derives much income from tourism. • 75. Catalonia, Spain And Spain For some time now there has been an issue in a part of Spain called "Catalonia" that I think it's worrying and also concerning the whole country. I'm originally from that part of Spain and I have spent all my life there before I came to the United States, so this is very important to me and it affects my life in every possible aspect. Catalonia and Spain have been not really liking each other for about 300 years now because of some war events that happened in 1714. But that feeling increased in the 1800s – 1900s when a new ideological and political movement called "Catalan nationalism" started to appear. That movement said that Catalonia is a nation and it stands out the own values of its historical personality (traditions, culture and language). This belief was in a lot of people's minds, but it started to increase about 10 years ago when both Spanish and Catalonian government had a fight about some laws. Since that, we could say that the "Independence" has started (we call it like that). Because of this, constant manifestations and protests have been usual in Catalonia (and usually this acts include people with posters and pictures insulting Spain and sometimes also burning and breaking Spanish flags or photos of the King with the Royal Family, etc.) A lot of everyday normal things have changed too. Currently, the majority of Spanish Muslims are former citizens of Islamic countries that have immigrated to Spain, or Spanish citizens who have converted to Islam. The native Spaniards were very submissive, so conquering the lion's share of the country, as well as a large sum of Portugal, was simple for them. There is a traditional story, wherein 711, an oppressed Christian chief, Julian, went to Musa ibn Nusair, who was the governor of Northern Africa, and pleaded for help against Roderick, the Visigoth ruler of Spain. This story is not universally believed; it is undoubtedly true that Tariq invaded Spain, but it is more likely that the invasion was for expansion purposes, rather than in assistance to the Christians. The Muslims easily defeated the Visigothic Army, and killed Roderick, the Visigoth King, in battle. After the first victory, the Muslims continued on to conquer most of Spain and Portugal with almost no plight, and almost no demurring from the natives. The Hispano–Visigoths couldn't counterattack because they still hadn't joined the two types of people that made up their community. This is why the Moorish Leaders Tarik and Musa were able to conquer all of the Iberian Peninsula, minus a few Christian areas.
