Innovation accounting and key metrics for startupsBlaz Kos
The traditional accounting in start-ups is usually incredibly simple - revenues, margins, free cash flow and other traditional accounting metrics are zero or very close to zero.
It is also impossible to do financial forecasts for start-ups (P&L, balance sheet,...) since accurate forecasting requires a long and stable operating history. Therefore a start-up must focus on the key metrics that show real progress in the search mode before becoming a stable business and use innovation accounting instead of traditional accounting as a framework for measuring performance.
The presentation covers the basics of being a data-driven organization, the difference between vanity, actionable and other types of metrics, why you should focus on one metrics that matter in different stages of a start-up, what are the common pitfalls when analyzing the data and how to use AARRR as the best framework for analytics, especially for web start-ups.

Systematic Innovation in Software Using TRIZMichael Kalika
Someone somewhere has already solved your problem or a very similar problem, and all we need to do is apply the same principle to the current problem and solve it similarly…
TRIZ is Theory of the Resolution of Invention-related Tasks. It is a a problem-solving, analysis and forecasting tool/ framework derived from the study of patterns of invention in the global patent literature that was developed in USSR and “immigrated” to the West after “perestrojka” period in 1990s. It is a well-structured inventive problem-solving approach which replaces the unsystematic trial-and-error method used in the search for solutions. This helps in overcoming psychological inertia and “stuckness” which can impede reaching the best possible design.
As leaders, we are often facilitating discussions as a part of designing new products, architectures, system design or problem solving.
In this lecture you will learn about what TRIZ is and how to apply its fundamental principles in Software Engineering and Architecture world.

This is a presentation on How Michelin Tires used TRIZ to develop their Tweel design that has been making its way into the commercial market for its application on multiple automotive and wheeled vehicle applications
The Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) is a concept that was developed by the Russian patent officer, Genrich Altshuller Saulowich, in the former USSR in the 50s. The aim of this method was to systematically analyze technical issues, find innovative solutions as well as resolve technical and physical inconsistencies.
For this purpose, experience and knowledge levels are determined through successful innovations, from which forty innovation principles were derived, which form the core of the concept in addition to other methodological tools. These and other tools are used to analyze the problem and to abstract it, to develop ideas, implement them and evaluate in the final step.
this is a problem-solving toolkit, it's really useful it has different Approaches to solving problems everybody can use organizations, business people even familes
After the Second World War, Altshuller, a patent officer in the Soviet Navy, started a systematic study of patents –
his aim was to find out what makes a successful invention!

Designing products against customer jobsMartin Jordan
How do you create successful products? By asking customers what they want? By matching market trends? Or rather by understanding the jobs that users try to get done? Believing it’s the latter, Hannes Jentsch and I gave a talk at Berlin ProductTank in July 2015 discussing how to design products against customer jobs.
In the talk we shared our experience from applying Jobs-to-be-Done tools in agile environments at Nokia’s HERE business for 2 years. We described JTBD as a framework, mind as well as set of tools and methods. Furthermore, we mapped and presented key JTBD tools against the lean product development process and discussed them in detail.
In the past, I have written about using the Lean trio of SDCA, PDCA, EDCA with an umbrella of CAP-Do or in Non-Lean terms; Standard Work, Continuous Improvement, Design Thinking (Exploration), and Reflection.
In the book, Cracked it!: How to solve big problems and sell solutions like top strategy consultants, the authors lay out their 4s Framework in much the same manner with a flowchart to guide you through the use of it. Their dive into each discipline is excellent. Enjoy the read.
The part of the framework that they took the time with that most problem-solving books don’t is the Sell Stage. Of course, I am partial to that area but even though I am, when doing it for myself, I often just think people get it. Everyone wants to grow revenue or save time and money?
I also like that though it is convenient to put documentation at the end and part of this stage, I took a little deeper meaning from it. The part of sustaining, and even improving again often rests on the idea of how we deliver/sell the results.
Designers increasingly find themselves in leadership roles. They are so passionate about the work they do, but are not always prepared for the leadership role that they find themselves in. The good thing is that we can learn the qualities of an awesome creative leader, and it is within our control to change our behaviour accordingly. My talk will be useful for in-house design teams, entrepreneurs in start-ups and design agencies. It will help them understand what qualities they should adopt if they want to support teams in design, development and delivery. I have tapped into Designit and Wipros global network of 15 studios and spoken to other subject experts.

Addressing Uncertainty How to Model and Solve Energy Optimization Problemsoptimizatiodirectdirect
During the past twenty years, IBM's CPLEX Optimization Studio has been used extensively to solve hard Energy Optimization Problems. CPLEX Optimization Studio's modeling capabilities, fast solvers and easy deployment features empower users to deploy energy applications quickly and reliably. Now, with a newly update superset offering know as Decision Optimization Center, the capabilities for this class of problems is greatly enhanced. Using the Unit Commitment Problem as a paradigm, we will demonstrate the advantages of using Decision Optimization Center, and CPLEX for modeling complex problems and application developments in the Energy Field.
Most importantly we will introduce new research developed for solving problems that address Uncertainty. We will showcase a new research approach that allows the user to test and deploy Stochastic, Robust or Deterministic models all on the same platform. This new approach allows you to truly understand your options as you explore the best plan for your business and develop a robust and repeatable process.

Robust Algorithm Development for Application of Pinch Analysis on HENIJERA Editor
Since its genesis, Pinch Analysis is continuously evolving and its application is widening, reaching new horizons. The original concept of pinch approach was quite clear and, because of flexibility of this approach, innumerable applications have been developed in the industry. Consequently, a designer gets thoroughly muddled among these flexibilities. Hence, there was a need for a rigorous and robust model which could guide the optimisation engineer on deciding the applicability of the pinch approach and direct sequential step of procedure in predefined workflow, so that the precision of approach is ensured. Exploring the various options of a novice hands-on algorithm development that can be coded and interfaced with GUI and keeping in mind the difficulties faced by designers, an effort was made to formulate a new algorithm for the optimisation activity. As such, the work aims at easing out application hurdles and providing hands-on information to the Developer for use during preparation of new application tools. This paper presents a new algorithm, the application which ensures the Developer does not violate basic pinch rules. To achieve this, intermittent check gates are provided in the algorithm, which eliminate violation of predefined basic pinch rules, design philosophy, and Engineering Standards and ensure that constraints are adequately considered. On the other side, its sequential instruction to develop the pinch analysis and reiteration promises Maximum Energy Recovery (MER).

Patent Strategies using TRIZ at Kia Hyundai within a DFSS framework Richard Platt
Kia Hyundai has long been known as a company that uses TRIZ in its product development activity. This paper illustrates the Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) process using the TRIZ (Russian acronym for Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) methodology for creating new ideas from the current engineering systems, using Patent strategies called the "trimming strategy", the "antidote strategy", and the "picket-fence strategy". In this paper as an example uses the Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) engine, windshield wiper blade, and
Continuously Variable Valve Actuation (CVVA) of the car engine, and selected new concepts for each system that were created by applying the previously mentioned three strategies.
Responding to the Impact of #Covid19 Pandemic & Economic Crisis and Beyond - ...Richard Platt
So this Economic Crisis caused by the #Covid19 pandemic has hit us all pretty hard, so I thought you might want to get a leg up and over this whole thing and leverage your own and your organization's talents and abilities to make that Innovation Pivot, that everyone is going to need to do, and done quickly, otherwise it's not good for you and your company. This #Covid19 has been a big reset, but more than that, it's a #StrategicInflectionPoint, which basically means that everyone's profitability and competitive advantage got smashed, and you all are going to have to do something about that...and the one way we know, that will work, is to #innovate your way out of this economic downturn, because at the end of the day, no company or individual is going to survive this impact without Innovating their way out of the situation. So we suggest you have a read and let us know what you think, and if you need help let us know, we do know how to deal with this, learn how to #systematically innovate and get you going once again and back to being profitable and competitive individuals and firms.

They build Turbines, big ones, and this presentation is from their Global Turbine Manufacturing facility and group. Mr Yoshida discusses their proliferation of a new framework for new product development using TRIZ, that is also a faster, more efficient approach, that I had not seen done before in other firms, but I can definitely recognize when I see it, despite that some of the presentation is in Japanese kanji, and this is despite my Japanese isn't good enough to translate it. Nonetheless, it is illustrative of this additional framework that this company uses in deploying TRIZ and be able to effectively execute delivering the product and it's the value proposition to the marketplace, something that I don't see other companies doing with near the same efficiency or effectiveness.

Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
