Oligochaetes are hermaphroditic segmented worms that live in terrestrial or freshwater habitats. They have specialized digestive and reproductive systems. There are two main groups, megadriles like earthworms and microdriles that are mostly aquatic. Oligochaetes have 100 to 175 segments and lack eyes but have light-sensitive organs near their ends. They are metamerically segmented with bilateral symmetry, chitinous setae, and closed circulatory and complete digestive systems.
