The circulatory system transports fluids like blood and lymph through vessels and channels. The blood vascular system is a closed system in vertebrates with a contractile heart and continuous vessels. The heart receives blood via veins and pumps it into arteries to transport blood to organs like the lungs. Fish hearts have two chambers, an auricle and ventricle. Amphibian hearts have two auricles and one ventricle. Reptile hearts show improvement over amphibians with separated auricles and a partially divided ventricle. Bird hearts are large and four-chambered with separated pulmonary and systemic circulation. Mammal hearts are fully four-chambered.
