This document summarizes a talk given by Peter Van de Voorde on various topics including investing in your team, yourself, and the future. It provides advice on listening, empathy, adaptability, coaching, assertiveness, creativity, and reading. The main pieces of advice are to listen to others, walk in someone else's shoes, know your strengths and weaknesses, get out of your comfort zone, coach people effectively, be assertive not aggressive, think "yes and" instead of "yes but", and play to boost creativity. The talk encourages attendees that if an evil super villain can do something, then they can too with the right mindset.

Presentation to South Coast Senior Students Conference 2013Evan Thomas
A leadership presentation provided to Year 11 and 12 students. The leadership theme provided by the Year 12 students was "Dare to ..."
The Year 12 students developed the conference agenda and objectives. They brought approximately eighty Year 11 students from 9 different High Schools together to network and develop their leadership skills.
What impressed me most was their enthusiasm, collaboration and their clarity of purpose, particularly when I asked them about plans after school.

20090507 Self Management for Self Development 64s ATI, EPI, Ramanthapur, Hy...viswanadham vangapally
Self-Management for Self-Development is one of the topics included in the One-week programme on Human Resources Development, organized by the Advanced Training Institute, Electronic Process Instrumentation, Ramanthpur, Hyderabad. Every person must consider himself or herself as a life-long learner. While during the early phases of life, parents and teachers are likely to provide the required guidance, during later part, every one has to assume responsibility on their own, for their self-development. Ability to manage oneself, time, resources, energy and everything else constitutes the beginning. Without self-management, you cannot hope to plan and achieve self-development. This presentation covers certain related aspects.
Oct, 13th is the new international holiday to rethink, share, and learn from failure. I did this presentation on Oct 17th, 2014 for all employees to make awareness about failure.
I've been working remotely for over 3 years and I wanted to share my experiences. This presentation focussed on the dream that people think I live and the reality of my day to day life.

Welcome to the Program Your Destiny course. In this course, we will be learning the technology of personal transformation, neuroassociative conditioning (NAC) as pioneered by Tony Robbins. NAC is used to deprogram negative neuroassociations that are causing approach avoidance and instead reprogram yourself with positive neuroassociations that lead to being approach automatic. In doing so, you change your destiny, moving towards unlocking the hypersocial self within, the true self free from fear and operating from a place of personal power and love.
https://bit.ly/BabeSideDoll4u Babeside is a company that specializes in creating handcrafted reborn dolls. These dolls are designed to be incredibly lifelike, with realistic skin tones and hair, and they have become increasingly popular among collectors and those who use them for therapeutic purposes. At Babeside, we believe that our reborn dolls can provide comfort and healing to anyone who needs it.
The Healing Power of Babeside's Handcrafted Creations
Our reborn dolls are more than just beautiful pieces of art - they can also help alleviate stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Studies have shown that holding or cuddling a soft object like a stuffed animal or a reborn doll can release oxytocin, which is often referred to as the "love hormone." This hormone helps us feel calm and relaxed, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.
In addition to their physical benefits, reborn dolls can also offer emotional support. For many people, having something to care for and nurture can bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Reborn dolls can also serve as a reminder of happy memories or loved ones who have passed away.
Investing is Important! If you have money you should invest it in evil plans and giant corporations, just like Lex Luthor
Invest in your Team, give them matching outfits, train them to become a true team.
Get to know your team members, their skills, their personal dreams and wishes.
Invest in your team as a unit and in each of your teammembers as a person.
Invest in Yourself, don’t think I’ll do this later when I’m old.
Don’t think : I’m not worthy of doing this or receiving this.
You are special, everybody is special and unique and this is why we as a species can survive. If we were all the same we would have died out long ago.
You need to invest in yourself, this can be work related (like Doctor Octopus) or just personal.
You can start playing an instrument, start rock climbing, start training for a 10 miles run, start loosing weight.
Start planning time for your family.
Whatever you do, make sure that it makes you feel better, more healthier. And it will make you a nicer person, a better parent, a better partner and a more enthousiastic colleague
Invest in the future. Maybe not extactly like Biff Tannen did. But still:
Invest in your people by:
Training (even something not directly work related)
Providing a open company culture
Take a look around (Google, Atlassian, …) (20% time, Ship It Days, Beer Cart, …
Loose weight
Play with your kids
Start playing an instrument
Read a book
Create a bucket list
Invest in the future:
Long term planning
Help Universities and Colleges and schools
don’t just think in quarterly reveneus or what to do the next year.
Think about what you want to do in 5 and 10 years.
Invest in your Children, they are the future and they can use each positive investment they get
Invest in your community and the environment, they will both support you and those that will follow you
Learn how to truely Listen, take your time. You can listen to somebody for years and still learn something new (like the Stazi did)
If people speak, open up your ears, your mind and your heart and truely listen for what they want to teach you. Look at every conversation as an open window on the world from a viewpoint different than yours.

If people speak, open up your ears, your mind and your heart and truely listen for what they want to teach you. Look at every conversation as an open window on the world from a viewpoint different than yours.
Every Good Conversation starts with good listening Doctor Evil even has 2 extra mini ears/
You have 2 ears and one mouth, or in the case of Doctor Evil and Mini Me: 4 ears and 2 mouths.
Use them in the same quantity, listen twice as much as you speak. You might actually be suprised at what your learn.
Listen to your subjects like you really care….
Take time to truely listen, be open.
Look at every conversation as an open window on the world from a viewpoint different than yours.
Use them in thesde
Show empathy towards your victims.
Walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. Before dismissing somebody’s opinion as false, not important or irrelevant. Think about their backgrounds, think about what they might have experienced and how that could have impacted their view of the world. Don’t just dismiss somebody because he’s different or seems alien to you. Try to walk a mile in their shoe’s, or their skin in the case of John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.
Think about all the different types of people, just like there are a lot of different Dr Who villains there are also a lot of different types of people. Some are more introvert, some are more extravert. Some are more methodical, some are more spur of the moment. Some are better at making people enthousiastic about an idea, some are better at getting that idea into reality.

Some are more introvert, some are more extravert. Some are more methodical, some are more spur of the moment. Some are better at making people enthousiastic about an idea, some are better at getting that idea into reality.
Be able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances just like mystique
Don’t be afraid of change, you might learn something.
Get out of your comfort zone, like the grinch and open up a whole new world of opportunities and possibilities.
Like they say: Life starts at the end of your comfort zone.
If somethings broken -> Fix it!
If you notice anyhing that’s broken, don’t wait for somebody else to fix it. Start finding a fix yourself, start talking about it. Maybe do a brainstorm around it or communicate clearly about it.
And then fix it, don’t let it stay broken because it will make you loose focus, enjoyment and ultimatly all fun in what you do. Just like the rebellion fixed the Terminator to send him back in time and protect John Connor.
Any good evil super villain has an army of minions. Learn how to coach them like Gru does with his wonderfull little minions. Know your team and what they like. You can start doing this by listening to them and doing stuff together with them. Being a coach is like being a parent, sometimes you need to hold their hands, sometimes you need to let them go and sometimes you need to put them back on their feet when they fell down.
Take time to do it well or don’t do It at all. Like Nero in star trek : take your time to do it right or don’t do it at all.
Coaching, just like parenting or anything else worth doing in this life takes time. You’ll need to get to know the people you are coaching and they will get to know and trust you.
Try not to combine it with to many other things and be honest to yourself about wether or not your doing a great job. Always ask for feedback from your team.
Coach the Coach: every coach needs a coach. Or maybe a mini version of himself to keep him straight, focused and on target. Get together with a number of coaches and do some introspectives.
Be open towards you team and ask for constructive feedback.
Step back and evaluate yourself:
Am I still taking time to listen to my team?
Am I still a leader and not a a Boss
Am I still focused on improvement?
…
Do The Beer Test, this is something I learned from the guys over at Atlassian: do the beer test like the Hop Villain.
This means: whenever you are hiring somebody or want to start something new with somebody think about this: would you spend a evening with this person simply drinking beer and still enjoy the company? If not : don’t hire them. One warning : be weary for creating an old boys club: all people with the same backgrounds and the same kind of lives. Remember that cultural differences and different kinds of people can only help your team to excel.
Be Assertive not Aggressive, so maybe not exactly like they Joker but you can’t say he isn’t assertive
Be Assertive not Aggressive: just like professor X: Stand your ground, be proud of what you stand for and defend it with vigour but also with respect for other viewpoints, with respect for somebody’s personality and integrity. When are you being aggressive instead of assertive? :
Once you start raising your voice you’re aggressive.
Once you start interrupting people who trying to bring their point across in a constructive way
Don’t be afraid to speak up, like Anna the leader of the visitors in the reboot of V
You don’t need to get your face up on giant floating screens across the globe, but you can still speak up.
Speaking up about a problem can help make the problem visible, it can help you find people who experience the same negative effects and search for a solution together.
Don’t be afraid to speak to managers or C-level executives, they are also people and the best of them will love your feedback and the fact that you are so commited to your team and your company that you speak up.
Have a plan, think about possible remarks, questions and prepare in advance. Just like mister Burns is always planning to make more money (for example by blocking out the Sun above Springfield) You should prepare yourself : think about all possible outcomes, the positive and the negative ones. Think about possible remarks on your plan and how to counter them. Think about the people you will be speaking with and listening to and how they are standing in life. If they love numbers give them numbers, if they love passion, give them passion.
The puppet in Saw might not be one of the funniest puppets to hang around with but he does have a lot of creativity.
Think Yes, and … instead of Yes, but ….
Like Pinky and the Brain do: be open for any opportunity to conquer the world. Start by simply trying to say Yes, And… instead of Yes, but…
This will allow you to freely brainstorm around idea’s and opportunities. For example you could say: (Company example Daniel Pink)
Do some improvisational Theatre: some of the best creative idea’s come when you do improvisation. Improvisation trains you to see everything as an oppurtunity to build upon. This will help you to see more possibilities, to be more open to new experiences and in the end become more creative, both at work and at home. Or just create more creative solutions to a problem like the coyote does in RoadRunner.
If you have children you might already now this. Children are the masters of creativity, give them a few lego blocks and they can play hours on end. Like Lord Business finds out: Creativity is the very core of playing. So why don’t you start playing around a bit? You canget your team together around a table full of toys and together create a representation of your project.
