A Beautiful Mind
What happens
however when the
mind works against
us? When it tricks us
into believing that what
is not real to be the
actual, destroying our
sense of being?
We are shaped by our thoughts;
we become what we think.
When the mind is pure,
joy follows like a shadow that never leaves.
The mind is everything,
What you think you become
The monotony and solitude of a quiet life
stimulates the creative mind.
Teach Yourself to think...
 I breath
 I walk
 I talk
 I think
 I do not have to think about these things then why I

have to think about thinking?
Because...
 Thinking is most fundamental thinking skill
 Your skill to think will determine your happiness and






success in life
You need to think to make plans, take initiatives,
solve problems, open-up opportunities and design
your way forward
Without thinking you are like a cork floating along
with the stream
Thinking is fun and enjoyment, if you learn how to
think
Thinking and intelligence are separate.
What about feelings and values?
 Most important things in life
 Purpose of thinking is to deliver to you values you

seek.
 Values and feelings are insufficient without thinking
5 stages of thinking
 TO – PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE
 LO – LOOK AROUND THE SITUATION
 PO – CHECK THE POSSIBILITY
 SO – NARROW DOWN MULTIPLE POSSIBILITIES
 GO – POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE ACTION

Great physical beauty with a boring mind is boring

You might get attention but will never keep that attention

Older, physical will fade

Beauty of Mind is independent of age

Can actually increase with wisdom and experience
Expected Value

(Odds of Gain) x (Value of Gain)

More often gives wrong result
Because of
Estimation Errors in Odds
and
Estimation Errors in Value
Six success elements in Relationships

1.
2.
3.
4.

5.
6.


It takes a combination of
Self-awareness,
Self confidence,
Positive personal impact,
Outstanding performance,
Communication skills and
Interpersonal competence
to succeed in your career and life.
How do I handle/prevent/reduce conflicts?
There are five methods to handle conflict:

 Running away
 Being obliging to the other party
 Defeating the other party
 Winning a little/ losing a little
 Co-operating
Resolving conflict is an art of communication

Use interpersonal
communication skills
Ways?
1. How To Agree

2.How To Disagree
3.How To Listen
4.How To Differ

5.How To Respond
Genuinely seek to find points of agreement – not sycophantic pretence
No contribution if you simply agree with everything
Other person view right – spell it out

Changing perceptions to look at
things in different way is an
important step
How to agree without compromising

 Define your principles and openly declare them
 Stay away from secret liaisons
 Take turns to agree
 Try to find a middle path
Do not disagree for the sake of disagreeing
Do not disagree just to show how clever you are or to boost your ego

Do so politely and gently /= rudely and
aggressively

Point out that a fact or statement is simply wrong

Distinguish between having a different opinion and disagreeing with an
opinion
How to Disagree without Offending
 Be a good listener. Your ears will never get





you in trouble
An open mind leaves a chance for someone to
drop a worthwhile idea in it.
Use phrases like “In my opinion,” “I believe
that,”
Speak two languages, one of them Body.
Sometimes, it’s what you don’t say that counts.
How To
Listening is not just having to wait impatiently until you can yourself speak
A good listener pays attention and seeks to get the maximum value
You should use question to check on fact

You should make a habit of
repeating back to the speaker
what you think you have
understood
How to Listen effectively
 Listening has to be learned
 Listening takes time
 Compose yourself physically
 Listen with an open mind and an open heart
 Give visual encouragement to the speaker
 Don't interrupt
 Don't rush to fill a silence
 Ask open questions
 Know when to stop listening
There are times when only one of a different set of opinions can be right
Seek to explore and explain the reasons for the difference
Different may arise from:
- Personal preference, values, point of view
- Perception, personal experience
How to Be Different
 It is okay to imitate a variety of people in small ways
 Adopt ideas from a variety of sources
 Find good, positive friends with diverse interests
 Be intelligent to decide who you want to be
 Respect other people's differences
 self-discovery is an ongoing process
 Be bold!
Go further than just agreeing with
a point that has been made

You may wish to extend a
suggestion by enlarging it and
growing the suggestion

You may want to modify an idea to make it more acceptable to
yourself, stronger and more practical

Instead of the usual ‘battle’ of arguments there is a joint effort to
explore the subject
Additional
1. Questions
2. Concept
3. Alternatives
4.Emotion And Feeling
5. Information and Knowledge
6. Attitude
Questions are key
means of interaction in
any conversation or
discussion. A listener
should seek to ask

question
Concept
Concepts are like parents that
breed children (ideas) and like
road junctions that open up several
other roads
Because we have an adequate ways of doing
something does not mean that there might not be a

much better way. If we try we can find that better
way
Emotion And Feeling
Adjectives are usually subjective and tell more about
what their user is feeling than about the matter itself.
Beware of adjectives used to make a point in place of
logic or information

Ultimately, choices and decisions are based on emotions and feelings
Information And Knowledge
You do not need full and complete information about a
subject in order to discuss that subject

Very little information?? Imagination and speculation is the basis for discussion
India could be 40 times bigger by 2050
(Ten Things for India to Achieve its 2050 Potential)
 Improve Governance

 Liberalise Financial Markets

 Raise Basic Educational

 Increase Trade With

Achievement
 Increase Quality and
Quantity of Universities
 Control Inflation: Why Not
Have Inflation Targeting?
 Introduce a Credible Fiscal
Policy: A Medium-Term
Strategy

Neighbours
 Increase Agricultural
Productivity
 Improve Infrastructure
 Improve Environmental
Quality
Conclusion

 Mind in Action, others to see how beautiful your

mind is!
 Enjoyment, using your mind becomes form of
enjoyment.
 Conversation Club, with only qualification to speak
and understand the language other speak.
