Good Opinion On Socrates
To be as good as one can be without the fear of having to face death is what Socrates strongly
wants Athenians to do. You are wrong, sir, if you think that a man who is any good at all should
take into account the risk of life or death... whether he is acting like a good or a bad man.
(Apology, 28B). What Socrates is trying to say to the Athenians is that a good man should only
focus on his actions, to make sure that what he is doing is the right and not wrong, and whether
what he is doing will make him a better person. It is not about what everyone else wants us to do
and follow but to live a good and moral life. That if a person examines whether what he is doing
is right death should not even cross his mind. If someone is being put on trial or tried to death
he should not be ashamed or embarrassed and the reason for that is because he is following
what he believes is right and not wrong. Socrates mentions in his Apology that if someone were
ever to ask him if he felt ashamed of living the life that he was living and he was being put to
trial and tried for death for it he would say that he is wrong for having asked such a question like
that. Wrong because if he is living and knows he is living a pious life then there is nothing to be
ashamed of, he is living the way that the gods want him and everyone else to live and that is by
having self knowledge. It would then be wrong if one started living a life of falseness and
wickedness by doing things that would get him to avoid death. Socrates also talks about how a
good man should never assume he knows something when in reality he does not. I differ from
the majority of men... I do know, however, that it is wicked and shameful to do wrong. To
disobey one s superior, be he god or man. I shall never fear or avoid things of which I do not
know, whether they may not be good rather than things that I know to be bad. (Apology, 29B C).
Socrates mentions that if there is one thing that he differs from everyone else is that he
acknowledges that he does not know about the underworld and there is no reason to fear. Whereas,
Athenians claim that it is the greatest of all evils and they would do anything to avoid it. What
Socrates then has that the Athenians do not have is

Essay On Bill Gates
Finding people who are both inspiring and empathetic to the needs of other can be very hard to
find. When I think about this person I have always thought about the power of kindness and
generosity that the human mind can have. This is the reason why this person and his wife are
one my favorite and greatest leaders of this century. This individual has not only changed the
world by ben affectionate for mankind, especially as shown in his devotion of work or wealth to
people around the world but has also been a great innovator and leader in the world of technology.
He is commonly known as Bill Gates but was born as William Henry Gates III on October 28 1955

America’s Domination of the Film Industry
Looking at the film industry as we now know it, it s hard to imagine that America wasn t always
the film producing machine we see it as now. Yet, when we begin looking at all the technological
advances that took place in film over time and the events which occurred during these periods, it
was a complex journey. In the following essay we are going to discuss why I believe that the wars
faced both foreign and domestic played the biggest factor in the American Filmindustry s rise to
dominance by the 1950s.
Birth of Film:
As with all things it s probably best to start with the beginning; the birth of film. Eadweard
Muybridge was hired in 1872 to capture images of a horse running to settle a debate as to whether
all four feet of a horse were off the ground at the same time while trotting. Little did he know that
by capturing these images he eventually would spark the invention of the kinetscope by Thomas
Edison in the 1880s.
By the late 1890s movies could be projected onto a screen and audiences finally were able to
attend public demonstrations. In 1905 the world s first nickelodeon devoted to film exhibition
was opened in Pittsburgh, PA by Harry Davis. Nickelodeons (named for both the price of
admission and the Greek word for theater ) soon spread across the country, the number of
nickelodeons reached around 8000 between 1907 and 1908, and by 1910 it was estimated that as
many as 26 million Americans visited these theaters every week.
World War I:
From about 1910 American

Alzheimer s Disease, Vascular Dementia, And Lewy Body...
Abstract Dementia has many forms and it is a decline in memory, language and reasoning.
Alzheimer s is a form of dementia. Alzheimer s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder, meaning
the loss of function and stability. This is a disease that affects cognitive and physical abilities in
the patient. Many people in the world have Alzheimer s and it is in elders over the age of 65.
There are lots of treatments available, but there is no cure for it. Keywords: Alzheimer s disease
(A.D), Caregivers, Treatments, Cognitive Dementia is caused by a decline in cognition. About
35 million people in the world have dementia and it is considered a syndrome rather than an
illness. About 9% 13% of elders over the age of 65 have dementia and 2% of elders have a
curable disorder, for instance major depression (Rabins, 2014). There are many factors that
relate to dementia. The three types of progressive dementia are: Alzheimer s disease, vascular
dementia, and Lewy body dementia (Rabins, 2014). The number one cause of dementia is A.D.
The following discussion addresses the following main disease, which is Alzheimer s and
possible causes, stages of A.D., caretaking and treatment. This occurs in elders above 60 years
old. Research indicates that worldwide, there is approximately 24 million people with A.D. A.D
will increase over the years, so by 2020 it is estimated that there will be 42.5 million people with
A.D. (Ballard et al., 2011). Three stages were determined for A.D.

Compare Beowulf Is An Epic Hero Archetypes
Epic Hero This essay is going to be comparing how the character Beowulf and Roy Hobbs are
alike and different. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and
both a great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic
Hero but are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to
accomplish are completely different. Beowulfhas strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero
. He Saves the day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple
examples of his strength is how he ripped off grendel s arm when he tried to run away. No normal
person would be able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he
slew grendel s motheras everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of
an epic hero. He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very
good leader and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the
people. Beowulf is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all
the time and there are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different
than the way people are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more
barbaric, like when Beowulf ripped off grendel s arm and they hung it up on front of the door for
everyone to see. Then when

The Island Of Dr. Moreau
Throughout time ethically controversial sciences, from vivisection to stem cell research, have
embodied a negative stereotype in the eyes of western societies, and have consequently
withdrawn the freedom that allows scientists to make innovative discoveries. In H.G. Wells
novel The Island of Doctor Moreau, this perspective is portrayed through Edward Prendick, an
upper class English gentleman with a subtle passion for science. After being stranded on a remote
pacific island isolated from civilization, Prendick s perspective on Dr. Moreau s unethical and
controversial studies begins to transform over time. The idea that isolation from civilization can
result in the freedom to explore one s curiosity is portrayed through Prendick s initial unacceptance
of Moreau s vivisection, which, as time on the island elapses, reshapes to one of interest. In The
Island of Doctor Moreau, as Edward Prendick spends more time away from civilized society, his
perspective regarding Dr. Moreau s ethically controversial discipline, vivisection, begins to shift
from a sense of repugnance to one of enthusiasm. Through these perspectives, H.G. Wells argues
that Prendick s isolation from civilization is the principle force allowing him to freely embrace the
unethical studies on the island and explore his natural curiosity for science, whereas the
consequences from negative stereotypes surrounding controversial science would discourage this
curiosity in a civilized society.
Initially, since Prendick

The Testament Of The Old Testament
The Old Testament is the largest part of the bible nestled behind the leather binding in the front of
the book. Unlike most books, told from one person or even two this is comprised of multiple,
some stories even having two different versions in another point of view; over time it has become a
large collection of ancient texts written and re written by different authors and editors over the
many years. The stories show the ancient Israelites, they show the laws, and rituals, which make
up their religion and the small embers, which will one day, turn to a flame that is Christianity. The
Jewish people view these stories as collected in what they call the Torah, is the collection for what
makes up their history and the promise that God gave to them, as well as their laws and what they
worship today. For the Christians the Old Testamentis still seen as sacred, but most place a stronger
importance to the New Testament. How the Old Testament is known today, it was composed of
works from the first century B.C.E. However, on the other hand the books themselves date back
to later dates close to the eleventh centuries or even maybe earlier. [Source] The Old Testament
takes place in what we now call today the Middle East, which extended from modern day Iraq all
the way to southwest Egypt. However, the majority of the events take place in Palestine. It sat
nestled right between the Egyptian Empire in the south to the Babylonian Empires in the north and
east. This area is essential

What Is Weakness Analysis And Mitigation
4.0 Weakness analysis and mitigation
First, the company s products need further marketing in order to increase its popularity. As is
known to all, the current economic development is highly influenced by Internet technology. More
and more companies nowadays choose to establish their e commerce model to expand market and
reduce business cost. In particular, technological advancements such as social media and
information technology are increasingly utilized in business marketing strategies. But the company
does not yet have relevant channels; its official website is mainly about corporate and product
introduction. It is suggested that the company may establish its own electronic booking system and

It is known that Singaporeans have quite high expectations about tea products (Tay, 2017).
Demanding consumers often tend to change their preference: they want new and fresh tastes.
Therefore, the company should develop more innovative products in order to maximize consumer
reach. In addition, while tea products remain as the main product, the company may develop tea
related products and services so as to diversify its revenue production and thus decrease its business
risks. For example, the company may develop resort and tourism programs as it boasts such natural

Third, the company s current workforce structure is yet to be better prepared to its international
expansion. Human capital is a vital asset for businesses in the modern knowledge economy. When
a firm is able to recruit and retain the best talents, it is more likely to gain competiveness. Either
marketing or for financing, the company should now look more at the global talent pool.

Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys
Rochester and Antoinette are two characters that are both outsiders of their respective
communities. Antoinette is excluded from both the white and black communities, and eventually
it leads to her instability and uneasiness throughout the novel. While being excluded from the
community isn t dreadful enough, she suffers being called a white cockroach (23) and becoming
an aberration through her own husband s eyes, Rochester. Moreover, Rochester is ignored by his
own family. His isolation stems from the letter he sends to his father, stating that I will never be a
disgrace to you or my dear brother the son you love (70). His bitterness implies that his father
favors his brother much more than he favors Rochester. He is also separated from the black
population, as he tells Antoinette that he would never hug and kiss [a black person] (91). His
haughty behavior eventually confines him from the population on the island. Ultimately, Antoinette
s and Rochester s struggles pushes these characters to a new extreme in which it pushes Rochester
to lock his wife in the attic and Antoinette to write [her] name in fire red (53) by the end of the novel
.
Throughout Wide Sargasso Sea, Jean Rhys magnifies the themes of madness and power by
analyzing Rochester s and Antoinette s interactions with one another to ultimately teach a lesson
that can be interpreted in many different ways. Their downfalls are created by the catastrophic
conflicts with each other and the environment around

Empire State Building Essay
Since it was built, the Empire State Building has been attracting millions of tourists every year.
This building is not only a national landmark and icon of New York City but a symbol of man s
attempt to achieve the impossible. The skyscraper is also the star in many movies such as An
Affair to Remember, Sleepless in Seattle and King Kong. It stands out among the city s skyline so
people arriving by air, sea, or land can always pick out its distinctive shape (Britton 4). The Empire

For whe When the Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 in Paris it, in a way, taunted American architects
to build something taller. By the early twentieth century a skyscraper race was on (Rosenberg 1).
Smith and Raskob teamed up and were racing against Walter Chrysler (founder of the Chrysler
Corporation) to build the tallest building. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of
building such a fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay
higher rents in tall buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and
became even wealthier (Mann 12). Consequently, the next step was to find a location for the
building. The Waldorf Astoria Hotel had an excellent location at a busy intersection on Fifth
Avenue (Britton 14). This hotel used to be very popular but since styles had changed, the people
who owned the building wanted it to move to a different location and build a newer and better
looking hotel. The new location was served by public transportation, shops, museums, and
entertainment. In 1928, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel was sold to Bethlehem Engineering Corporation.
John Raskob and Alfred Smith bought the site when the sale fell through (Britton 7). They wanted
to start construction on the Empire State Building immediately but had to demolish the hotel first.
With this new open land, the planning could commence. The architects for the Empire State

Analysis Of Peter Singer s Famine, Affluence And Morality
In Peter Singer 1972 article Famine, Affluence, and Morality, He offers a situational thought
experiment in which he makes you question your moral values. It goes like this, imagine you re
walking to class and you are feeling good about how great you looked in your brand new $200
shoes. You pass by this pond and noticed that there is a small child drowning and realize there
isn t much time to call anyone for help. You could stride into the water and pull her to safety, but
If you take the time to remove your shoes and it ll be too late. The second option is that you jump
in knowing that the muddy water would ruin the new shoes. Singer goes on by saying that he s

These are just small ways in which they can improve their lives. The everyday America has this
amount of money sitting around in their coat pocket. So why are these people around the world
still dying? however, most people don t feel the weight of responsibility to help a dying child
that they cannot see or do not know of. People only help went they are faced with the
opportunity and then based their decision to help with their own moral values. Singer created a
great thought experiment in a way that tests one s moral value, but one flaw would be that there
wasn t anyone else around in the situation. You are the only one around in the setting therefore
you must help the child. So, the question is, what if there were many people standing around in
the same location? Would we all have to the responsibility to have to save the child or will we not
stand and watch. According to Singer, if you can help others avoid harm, then you are morally
obligated to help them. However, I don t believe this is always the case. I believe sometimes you
might not be benefiting that other person because they have put themselves in a situation in which
they might have caused that upon themselves. An example of this would be you re at a crosswalk
waiting for the light. A man in a sports

March 11, 1848 was the day when colonies across Canada united and established responsible
government. Some may go even further as to call it our independence day the day real democracy

Throughout history, our world has constantly been bruised and battered by civil turmoil. Today,
the civil war in Syria decimates the country; the Israeli and Palestinian conflict rages on; tens of
thousands of people have been killed in South Sudan s ongoing civil war. It is not always easy to

Cortisol Research Paper
Cortisol production is stimulated by ACTH secretion from the anterior pituitary via numerous
feedback mechanisms according to the circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the early morning and
smaller fluctuations throughout the day. ACTH secretion is stimulated by CRH in the
hypothalamus which is stimulated by things such as: decreases in plasma cortisol, hypoglycemia,
stress, and infection. Secretion of ACTH leads to conversion of cholesterol to cortisol in the zona
fasciculata of the adrenal gland via various cytochrome P450 enzymes. Increased levels of cortisol
itself cause negative feedback on the pituitary and hypothalamus. The zona glomerulosa is the site
of production of Aldosterone, the principal mineralocorticoid, via similar mechanisms (cytochrome
p 450.) Aldosterone production is stimulated by activation of the renin angiotensin system in
response to decreased intravascular volume (sensed by baroreceptors), decreased sodium levels
sensed in the macula densa of the nephron, and by the sympathetic nervous system in response to
stress.

What Is The Ideology Of True Love In Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare was a playwright and author in the 16th and 17th centuries, with at least 37
plays and 154 sonnets to his name. His many works span in genre and form, from the tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet to the poem of a father s unconditional love and eventual acceptance of a loved
one s death. Through a vast variety of linguistic and structural techniques, he is able to promote,
develop and explain his personal ideology of love. Evidence of this is seen through the character of
Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and the narrative voice in a selection of sonnets.
Within sonnet 116, Shakespeare personifies the abstract noun of love when he states Whose worth s
unknown . Through personifying his ideology of true love, it makes it increasingly ... Show more

Through isolating that line, it not only emphasises its importance as a statement, with summer
being a metaphor for his son, and thus showing pure paternal love; but also the importance of
the new tone, pride. The word But , although with negative connotations, is used to positively
emphasise the importance of the new phase of acceptance of his son s death, and the
continuation of his paternal love. It is through this line that Shakespeare goes on to explain how
his love for his son will never diminish, as it is immortalised, along with his son, in the poem.
This is the act of creating an autotelic memorial in that the poem will never fade away, ever
when the writer dies. Due to this, Shakespeare is able to show that his concept of love, no matter
what form it is in, is so strong and true that it is infinite and can overcome all obstacles, even
death itself. To a 16th century reader, the concept of love taking many forms and overcoming even
death was unconventional, as it contrasted greatly to the accepted ideal of courtly love, which was
limited and weak. To a modern day reader, whose greatest fear is death; being told love overcomes
death reassures them of its strength. This promotes Shakespeare s ideology, especially through
contrast in the

Paradoxical Vocal Cord Motion Disorder
Vocal Cord Dysfunction
A twenty year old female is admitted to the emergency room with symptoms of respiratory distress.
The symptoms began during a soccer game and came on suddenly. Signs included observed
dyspnea, coughing, wheezing, and signs of cyanosis and chief complaint of shortness of breath.
Patient had previously been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma and has used her Albuterol
inhaler, as instructed, at the time of attack with no relief. The acute attack continues for about 10
more minutes and then the symptoms subside spontaneously and her respiration returns to normal
without any other interventions. Although her symptoms appear to be consistent with an asthma
attack the lack of response to traditional treatments for asthma call for further investigation. Many
individuals who suffer from Paradoxical Vocal Cord Motion Disorder (PVCM) have experienced
this first hand. PVCM is a disorder that closely mimics asthma leading to difficult and often
misdiagnoses, unnecessary interventions and medications. Never heard of PVCM? It was first
noted by Dunglison in 1842 as laryngospasms brought on by hysteria, he called it Hysteria Croup.

was determined to be the cause of the stridor heard upon inspiration during an attack (Ibrahim,

the oil industry, with its history of booms and busts [4], is currently in its worst economic

There is a high level of uncertainty and volatility involved in energy markets [11, 12], the
interactions of which with energy price and emissions regulations are significant. To address these
uncertainties and investigate their impacts on the role of oil sands, a global dynamic energy market
is proposed. This model aims at studying the behavior of different energy sources (including oil

Representation In Canada
Also, the House of Commons suffers from another issue related to the power of Canadians votes.
Based on section three of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, every eligible Canadian has the
right to vote and has the power to elect the member of Parliament of their choice (Courtney, 2015).
However, Canadians in different regions in Canadahave different effects on policymaking as some
regions have more power when casting a ballot. The examples of Alberta and Prince Edward Island
are further evidence of the distortion which exists in Canada s representation by population system.

Canada s first past the post system has failed to ensure gender equality and failed to ensure
adequate representation for visible minorities and indigenous peoples (Weaver, 1997, p. 480).
Moreover, visible minorities and indigenous peoples are underrepresented even in major urban
cities as urban centers with Canada s largest concentrations of immigrant and ethno racially
diverse populations have been systematically underrepresented in the House of Commons
(Trimble, 2011, p. 369). In fact, the elected members of Parliament do not reflect the populations
that vote for them as major Canadian constituencies that are demographically diverse are still
represented by the archetypal official who is male, white, middle class, middle aged, Canadian
born and majority language speaking (Trimble, 2011, p. 369). Thus, visible minorities are under
represented more than any other group as visible minorities are overwhelmingly marginalized in
the ranks of elected politicians (Trimble, 2011, p. 369). Also, women in the House of Commons
make up less than half of the positions rather than the fair share they deserve in terms of their
actual proportion of Canada s population (Trimble, 2011, p. 369). Therefore, the distortion of
representation in the House of Commons goes far beyond misrepresenting one segment of Canada

Peeta Mellark Vs. Kat-Niss Everdeen
The two main characters of my novel, The Hunger Games, are Peeta Mellark, and Kat niss
Everdeen, are two characters that particularly have a significant number of similarities, while
still having a distinct amount of differences. Katniss is 16 years old, and she has long black hair,
that is usually in a braid because of the games. She has grey eyes, and an olive skin tone. These
physical traits are common in the Seam, which is the lower class part of District 12 where
Katniss lives. Since she is only 5 5 , she isn t very tall, but she is thin compared to the other
tributes. Katniss is light for her age, making her one of the smallest tributes in the games. Because

Peeta is also 16 years old in the book. He has blond hair, a lighter skin tone than Katniss, and has

home too since his father owns a bakery). He isn t too tall either, he is 5 7 , making him
noticeably shorter than one of the most dangerous, if not, the most dangerous trib utes, Cato,
who is 6 2 . Peeta lives with both of his parents, and they run a bakery shop back in District 12.
This is the reason why he can lift 100 pound weights so easily. Since his dad owns a bakery, Peeta

choice, but some of his advantages are that he can lift heavy weights, can camouflage
exceptionally well, and that he can somewhat use knives to his advantage. Peeta could also
survive in the Hunger Games because he is also smart, a very good actor, and partic ularly
manipulative. An example of this is at the end of chapter 11 when Katniss finds out that Peeta is in
an alliance with the career tributes. The career tributes are on a team in the begin ning, and when
they have killed everyone, they fight each other. Only the strongest tributes are the career tributes
because they have been trained to be in the arena since they were born. Peeta is with the careers at

Akira Kurosawa s Throne Of Blood
Akira Kurosawa s Throne of Blood weaves together an intricate spider web of ideals, but most
importantly integrates immense culture with the epic story arc of Shakespeare s Macbeth to create
gorgeous cinematography that continues to entertain. Specifically, the spirit scene, which parallels
the witches prophecy in Shakespeare s version, binds together Japanese superstition with brilliant
Noh acting to paint a chilling picture of prophetical notions of greed and power.
One of the most interesting points to take from Throne of Blood is that it evolves not in the
traditions of Elizabethan theatre but purely in a Japanese context (Zambrano 262). Kurosawa

Banning Books Should Be Banned
Throughout history many books have been banned, for many reasons. I believe that banning
books is a dangerous power to give the government or people in authority. Banning book is not
only morally unjust but also I believe that some of the reasons are also illegal. I will explain my
opinion in the following. Banning books can be a dangerous power because banning restricts
authors. Today, people are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts
that. Many authors write about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of
living and banning a bookthat doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. Society
may believe in one thing but not all people do. I also believe that banning books is a form of
bullying. Banning is like telling the author, you don t fit in with everyone else so you can t have
books published. I guess, a authors are supposed to put their beliefs on the back burner in order to
make money from published books. In history some authors were exiled because they wrote about
social corruption.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Discussion I. Can our client satisfy the first requirement for a malicious prosecution suit that

To meet the first element favorable termination a plaintiffcannot rely on a settlement of the case that

The judgment entered by the trial court on the motion to dismiss was reversed because a
termination must be in favor of the person against whom civil proceedings are brought.
To have an action for malicious prosecution, our client must prove that a favorable termination has

contest is a favorable termination. In the Frey case it is stated that when a termination or dismissal
indicates in some fashion that the accused is innocent of wrongdoing it is a favorable termination.
Also a termination without a trial on the merits may be a favorable termination of litigation if the
circumstances indicate the innocence or freedom from liability of the defendant. In a case where

improvement of criminal justice as this population reaches historical high level in America. There
are over 2 million individuals housed in national jails or prisons and nearly 5 million individuals
on parole or probation. United States of America leads the world in punishment and incarceration,
and the cost of the correctional system now surpasses $60billion annually. The rise in the costs and
size of correctional facilities occurs after nearly two decades of tough reforms on crime. These
tough on crime reforms got the support of both Republican and Democratic administrators in
response to the increasing crimes rates experienced since 1970s. Ironically, the unabated
correctional costs and financial crises have put strains on health, education and human services

Throughout history, illness has been defined differently depending on how the wide variety of
cultures perceived it. Early times would use supernatural explanations to understand the cause of
illnesses. For example, their transcendental reasoning may talk about evil spirits, demons, devils,

sick person feels. It s more focused on scientific clarifications where illness is a biological and

The sick role assumes that the sick person didn t deliberately make himself or herself sick.
However, people may pretend to be sick and this is another addition to deviant behavior. There
are some criminals who pretends to be crazy when committing a crime so they can avoid serious
penalties and end up with ones that are more lenient. Parson has four main points when it comes
to the sick role. First is the sick person is allowed to be excused from his or usual social roles.
How much leniency is given depends on the severity of the illness. For example, a person with
pneumonia has permission to take days off from work. The employer wouldn t fire this person
for taking days off if proper documentation by the doctor is given and pneumonia is a serious
illness that can be viral. Second is the sick person isn t held accountable for being ill because
this is something that the person can t control. The human body is mysterious, which is why a
sick person with strong willpower can survive from a deadly disease. Third is the sick person
doesn t want to be sick and will try whatever means necessary to not be a deviant, which means
being ill. According to the first point, the sick person s absence from his or her responsibilities is
permitted but it s not long lasting because based off of the third point, the person is supposed to get

Ambition in Hamlet by Williams Shakespeare
The dictionary defines personal ambition as An earnest desire for some type of achievement or

(Dictionary.com) One could argue that too much ambition can be a negative trait. By placing such
an emphasis on personal ambition it causes some to push their loved ones away in order to achieve
what they want. Within most people, unhappiness is a common feeling and in extreme results, it

The Attachment Theory Essay
The Attachment Theory
The attachment theory talks about the early significance and developments of attachment between
infants and their mothers. Attachment can be defined as intense, emotional ties to specific people.
The attachment process can be divided into pre attachment, discriminate and indiscriminate and
multiple attachment phases.
The development of specific attachment is shown through separation anxiety.
The most influential versions of this approach was probably that of Sigmund Freud, who believed
that the infants upset at the mothers absence is based on the crass fear that bodily needs would

these systems in their interaction with their environment and the people around them.
He stated what is known as the continuity hypothesis, which is the idea that a damaged infancy

Infants who do not have any sort of attachments whatsoever could have some everlasting effects on

According to most accounts, the La Eme was formed in 1957 by Luis Huero Buff Flores. La Eme
quickly grew in size as well as stamina. In the 1960s, the California Department of Corrections
moved Eme members in an attempt to break up the gang task at DVI, to other prisons such as San
Quentin. This effort served to spread La Eme s sway to other prisons. As La Eme expanded, the
group saw the possibility of profiting from drug sales, extortion and gambling rackets inside
penitentiary, so leaders set taxes on such actions, driving Latino convicts to hand over a small
portion of profits to the gang. In the 1980s, this strategy was taken by La Eme to the street. By
joining forces with East Los Angeles street gang leaders, La Eme started to control activities like
contract killings, extortion, drug trafficking, and debt collection from inside prison walls.
As penitentiaries became more divided, competing race based criminal organizations sprang up in
the California prison system, including the Black Guerilla Family and the Aryan Brotherhood. La
Eme continued to prosper in the face of this opposition, and even grew more arranged, drafting a set
of gang rules or commandments and recruiting members from Latino street gangs in Southern

Cannibalism Exocannibalism
In my essay, I would like to discuss cannibalism as a phenomenon in the context of socio cultural
anthropology. By exploring some of the cannibal practices prevailing in the tribal societies even
until today, I will try to put up a question if this practice is still vivid and functional way how to
deal the social order.
1.Гљvod
Cannibalism, known also as anthropophagy, is one of the slowly vanishing phenomena of the
modern world. Even if it is necessarily considered taboo from the western perspective, these
practices are in some indigenous societies still part of everyday life. In the past, within some
cultures cannibalism was recognized as a barbarism and as a decline of civilization, modern
anthropology goes ahead with the debate why cannibalism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One of these is survival cannibalism that is the case when people are forced to eat others flesh to
keep themselves alive. Quite often cannibalism arises from deviant... disorders. (Donely) One of
this type might be autocannibalism, which is defined as eating own flesh.
4.Amazonia
Many indigenous tribes currently living in the Amazonian jungle can still practice some forms of
cannibalism. An American anthropologist Beth Conclin thoroughly researched cultural habits,
rituals and mortuary practices among Wari. Her monography Consuming Grief can then serve as a
great primary source for analysis of cannibalism.
In the past, amongst Wari people both forms of cannibalism occurred. They practiced warfare
cannibalism as well as mortuary, however, no anthropologist has ever seen it live. Details about the
rituals itself then only come from the informants. (Conklin, 2001) This fact was actually crucial in
the following discussion about denying the existence of cannibalism.
When a Wari person passed away, they left the body to decay for around three days and then they
gathered to hold a ceremony for the deceased. For the closest kin it was forbidden to take part in the
flesh consumption, however, others did this only in order to help them overcome the mourning
phase. This very fact put the community together. (Conklin,

Predestination And The Movie Predestination
Predestination
The movie Predestination has presented many great examples of different psychological cases.
In the movie the plot of the story is that a bomber has killed many people and the main character
has to go back in time to stop him. The aftereffects of going back in time multiple occasions is
what may be a leading factor as to what each characters unique disorder may be, but the tiny
details on the side is what reveals the bigger issue. The main characters are easy to breakdown
and it s obvious as to what each ones disorders are.The background of this character is directly
unique to the movie as the main story of the movie is what causes him to develop all of his
problems. The movie itself is a paradox and requires a lot of thought even after seeing it from a
third person point of view so the characters themself face a harder grasp on the reality of what s
happening to them.
The movie has three major characters that are unique to themselves and each other. The
characters are all different to each other in many ways such as age, appearances, and even
personalities yet they are crucial to each other at the end of the movie. The first character is a
middle aged man named John, the second character is a younger woman named Jane, and the last
character is an older man whose name is also John. The middle aged man, John, is the time
traveling agent mentioned before whereas the older man named John is the fizzle bomber. The
younger woman, Jane, works as a magazine

Brazil s Enigma: Sustaining Long Term Growth
Brazil prepares to take a new leap to grow more and better. To make our model more robust and
open in this new development cycle, we will incorporate a new word: competitiveness.1
Dilma Rousseff
On August 15, 2012, Dilma Rousseff, the president of Brazil, unveiled a new stimulus plan, aimed
at injecting up to R$133 billion (US$66 billion) into the economy by funding infrastructure
improvements to roads and railroads over a 25 year period. The Brazilian economy had stagnated
to a mere 2% growth per annum, despite GDP growth peaking at a remarkable 7.5% in 2010. This
stagnation created concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rousseff also assured that increasing exports, particularly manufactured goods, would be a priority
of her government.5
Yet, by June 2011, industrial production growth had fallen to a weak 1.6%. As productivity began
to flat line, many critics worried about the nation s lack of competitiveness. The Brazilian
government struggled to define the best balance between exchange rate policy and monetary policy
for economic growth. Other challenges included the nation s poor infrastructure, high tax burden,
and undeveloped educational system, which produced a shortage of highly skilled
employees6п‚ѕfactors that together were known as the Brazilian cost. Following the announcement
of Brazil s new stimulus plan, Rousseff became a focus of the international spotlight. Would
Rousseff be able to maintain her triple promise of targeting inflation, keeping the exchange rate
flexible, and exercising fiscal restraint, while still promoting greater exports and GDP growth?
Brazil during the 2000s: The Lula Years
Throughout the 2000s, Brazil appeared increasingly likely to emerge as one of the world s leading
economic powers.7 From 2000 to 2008, Brazil s high inflation had been tamed, fiscal deficits had
been controlled, and external

ponsibilities, especially a dispute with the civil government over its attempt to impose special taxes
on religious institutions.[14] Mendel died on 6 January 1884, at the age of 61, in Brno, Moravia,
Austria Hungary (now Czech Republic), from chronic nephritis. Czech composer LeoЕЎ
JanГЎДЌek played the organ at his funeral. After his death, the succeeding abbot burned all papers
in Mendel s collection, to mark an end to the disputes over taxation.[15]
Experiments on plant hybridization
Dominant and recessive phenotypes. (1) Parental generation. (2) F1 generation. (3) F2 generation.
Gregor Mendel, who is known as the father of modern genetics , was inspired by both his professors
at the PalackГЅ University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler), and his
colleagues at the monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants. In 1854, Napp
authorized Mendel to carry out a study in the monastery s 2 hectares (4.9 acres) experimental
garden,[16] which was originally planted by Napp in 1830.[13] Unlike Nestler, who studied
hereditary traits in sheep, Mendel focused on plants.
Mendel carried out his experiments with the common edible pea in his small garden plot in the
monastery. These experiments were begun in 1856 and completed some eight years later. In 1865,
he described his experiments in two lectures at a regional scientific conference. In the first lecture
he described his observations and experimental results. In the second, which was given one month
later, he explained them.
After initial experiments with pea plants, Mendel settled on studying seven traits that seemed to be
inherited independently of other traits: seed shape, flower color, seed coat tint, pod shape, unripe
pod color, flower location, and plant height. He first focused on seed shape, which was either
angular or round.[17] Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel cultivated and tested some 28,000 plants,
the majority of which were pea plants (Pisum sativum).[18][19][20] This study showed that, when
true breeding different varieties were crossed to each other (e.g., tall plants fertilized by short
plants), one in four pea plants had purebred recessive traits, two out of four were hybrids, and one
out of four were purebred dominant.

Management By Objectives Of MBO
*What is Management by Objectives (MBO)?
Management by Objectives (MBO) was first defined by Peter Drucker (a management guru) in
1954 in the book The Practice of Management. In the 90s, Peter Drucker by himself identified the
importance of this organization management system, when he wrote: It s just another tool. It is not
the great cure for management inefficiency... Management by Objectives works if you know the
objectives, 90% of the time you don t.
Management by Objectives (MBO) is a management system that allows managers to increase the
performance for organization by focusing on goals that need to be achieved and by attaining the
best imaginable outcomes from available resources.
Management by Objectives (MBO) aims to develop organizational performance and to line up
goals and secondary objectives through the organization. Employees do strong effort to recognize
their ideas and goals. MBO consist of unending following and feed backing in the method to rich

outcomes rather than doings. It inspires people to set exact satisfying objectives instead of be
contingent on ideas or conjecture. Create a combined hierarchy of goals in the organization and
accurate performance aims and measures by showing goal achievement and place it down with a
time bound program.

Mercury And Its Effects On The Earth
As humans continue to live on Earth the climate is changing which is melting the Polar Ice
Caps along with rising sea levels. Due to these changes to Earths Climate over the next millennia
Earths lands may disappear and be taken over completely by the ocean. The human population is
also constantly increasing and we need more space to survive. What can we do to survive?
Where can we go? This film Deadliest Planets on YouTube will help us to explore our options.
This video looks at 6 other Planets that may or may not be possibilities of sustaining life. The first
planetwas Mercury. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and one day on mercury lasts up to 58

There were no tree ferns or any plants at all. Venus was covered in dry desert with Volcanoes. This
planet would not be able to sustain human life.
There are a few other reasons why Venus cannot sustain human life. One of them is because of a
huge cloud that surrounds Venus. This cloud is made up of corrosive acid, which is due to the
sulfur from volcanic eruptions on Venus. The second reason is because the atmospherepressure on
Venus is also ninety times stronger than it is on earth, which is strong enough to crush a car. The
third and final reason we would not be able to live on Venus is because the atmosphere of Venus is
nearly all Carbon Dioxide, which makes the temperatures over nine hundred degrees Fahrenheit.
The next planet the video looked at was Mars. Mars does have a chance that it may be able to
sustain human life. Mars is the one planet that most resembles planet Earth. A day on Mars is
almost the same length as a day on Earth. Mars also resembles Earth because it has deserts,
mountains, and canyons. There has also been a recent discovery of water on Mars underneath the
surface. However, there are disadvantages to Mars. Mars has no magnetic field, so therefore solar
radiation can get to the surface. Radiation is a huge problem for trying to sustain life on Mars; it
will kill people and destroy their DNA. Currently, Scientists are

Idiocracy Analysis
Idiocracy For a movie that had almost no marketing done for it and was released in theaters in only
six cities, Mike Judge s Idiocracy, released in 2006, has become an extremely successful movie.
Fox sat on the movie for over a year before finally releasing it in theaters. It didn t even have so
much as a movie trailer or an official movie poster. When Idiocracydid finally hit the theaters, the
movie was only shown for two weeks. And shortly after that it went right to DVD, still without
much marketing at all. A movie treated like that is usually because it s not any good, but in spite
of all that Idiocracy has become a cult classic and is known as one of Mike Judges best creations. If
you are a fan of any of Mike Judge s other work like Office Space, Beavis and Butt heador Daria
then you will definitely enjoy Idiocracy. It does not hold back on any of the satirical humor that
Judge is known for. It pokes fun at society and how it can feel like we re getting dumber. It also
targets large corporations and how they re growing and controlling more and more of people s
everyday lives. If you were never a fan Beavis and Butthead and couldn t get over how incredibly
stupid the two boys were, than this movie may not be for you. Judge uses this similar low brow
humor to make his point about different flaws in society and exaggerate some of the effects it could
have on the future.
Idiocracy takes a different look at your usual future dystopia than we usually see. Instead of a
technologically advanced intelligent society or a post apocalyptic wasteland we see more of a
dumbed down corporate ran society. The idea is that while all of the intelligent people were
having less kids so they can focus on creating things and contributing to society, the dumber
people were off making lots of children. After years of this, it eventually leads to the whole world
becoming filled with stupid people. Joe Bauers is chosen for a military experiment because he is
the most average guy the army has to offer, along with Rita, a prostitute who works for a pimp
named Upgrayedd. The two of them are put into hibernation for what was supposed to be only a
year. But unfortunately when the experiment becomes forgotten about and the

My Experience Of My Birthdays
Do you ever have an experience that destroys something that you had cherished for so long? There
have been lots of times in my life that I have been confronted with situations that changed the way I
viewed myself and others, there is one distinct time that I remember abruptly changing my
viewpoint, and finally learning some very important messages. On the particular day, my birthday, I
had one of the most confusing, irritating, frustrating, eye opening days of my life. A day I will
remember for as long as I live. Birthdays were an event that I had been associated with excitement
and anticipation in the years prior to my 7th birthday, after that, they were ruined forever.
On this special day, I woke up to breakfast in bed, a family tradition. My mom had asked me
earlier that week what I wanted for my birthday breakfast and I had responded with the same
breakfast that everyone in my family asks for, cinnamon rolls. Skip ahead to the next morning,
having just woken up, being presented with a plate of pancakes... What? I was confused. I thought,
There must be some mistake. I looked around hoping to see another plate with warm gooey rolls of
dough smothered in sugar placed on it. To my dismay, there was not.
Oh. I guess maybe mom didn t hear me when I said I wanted cinnamon rolls, I wondered, but how
could she not have? It s the same breakfast all of us ask for.
This start to my day was not at all what I was expecting, but I convinced myself that it was just an

Septic Trucks
Septic pumping is a job that can go one of two ways: poorly or well. With appropriate equipment
that is well maintained and right for the job, a job should be accomplished quickly and easily.
When vehicle parts are not maintained or used properly, problems may happen. Other than the
pumps, the main trouble with any new or used septic trucks that are part of a work fleet are the
results of improper use and maintenance of the hoses. Equipment Working Together In order to
achieve the most efficient vacuum in a tank that will give the pump the power for strong suction,
the tank and pump must be appropriately sized to work together; a bigger tank or pump does not
necessarily work any better. An incorrectly matched pump and tank can cause hose... Show more

When too small, material can create too much friction on the inside and get clogged; when too
large, there can be too much air flowing into the tube and tank to allow for proper vacuuming.
Keeping all connected lengths of hose the same diameter the entire length is important to prevent
blockages. Keeping Hoses Working Naturally, a dirty suction line that is allowed to collect
material inside it when not regularly and properly cleaned is going to have a problem siphoning
anything. This problem is frequently experienced after purchasing used septic trucks as it is
impossible to know if a previous owner cleaned the hoses correctly. At best, vacuuming could be
inefficient; at its worst, it could stop altogether when the lines get clogged. The answer is to always
keep hoses stored clean and empty, although there is a definite trick to doing this. Normally,
operators can clear out dirty suction lines by keeping the pump on even when done working in
order to clear out any remaining material left in the hose when the pumps were shut down. Once
there is nothing left to vacuum, the pumps will no longer suction as there is not a vacuum in the
tank, although the tubes should be empty at that

Is Turkey The Stupidest Animal In The World
Turkeys are large birds that behave differently from other birds. Their sizes are bigger compared
to most birds and are natives of North America. There are two different kinds of Turkey; domestic
and wild. Wild turkeys are the ones we eat for Thanksgiving or for Christmas. The domestic
turkeys are the ones raised in the farmwhile the wild ones are found in open forest, grassland and
woodlands. Turkey is a famous meal for western countries especially in Americas. This famous
turkey is also known for acting stupid and dumb. This paper will explain why Turkey is the
stupidest organism in the world.
Domestic turkeys have big boobs, which makes it more appealing for dinner meal. The big boobs
are what make it harder for domestic turkeys to be able to fly. Adult turkeys have approximately

Unique Capabilities Of Modelling Construction Materials
Capdeivila Werning (2011) writes that buildings, including the Kampung house, can open our
understanding of the unique capabilities of modelling construction materials in specific
environments. These houses are not built by commercial architects or designers but by experienced
village master builders, through the soul, the hands and labourers of the community. This allows
each houseto take on a unique personality and character reflecting its inhabitants. The beauty of this
architecture has long been dismissed as accidental, but today we should be able to recognize it as
the result of rare good sense in the handling of practical problems. The shape of the houses,
sometimes transmitted through a hundred generations, seem eternally valid, like those of their
tools (Rudofsky,1964, p4). A popular design detail introduced in the traditional Kampung house is
wood carvingwhich responds to the culture and community. Wood carving is an extremely difficult
and precious talent passed down through generations. However, it is a dying practice and has
become an expensive business only unique to those interested in the preservation of the Kampung
house style and those who appreciate the art. Wood carvings are not only ornamentally aesthetic
but have a lot of sacred meanings as well as being visually attractive in the internal living
environment as shown in Figure 11. The wood carvings along the walls, windows and door frames
often represents stories, depicting different tales

  • 2. Good Opinion On Socrates To be as good as one can be without the fear of having to face death is what Socrates strongly wants Athenians to do. You are wrong, sir, if you think that a man who is any good at all should take into account the risk of life or death... whether he is acting like a good or a bad man. (Apology, 28B). What Socrates is trying to say to the Athenians is that a good man should only focus on his actions, to make sure that what he is doing is the right and not wrong, and whether what he is doing will make him a better person. It is not about what everyone else wants us to do and follow but to live a good and moral life. That if a person examines whether what he is doing is right death should not even cross his mind. If someone is being put on trial or tried to death he should not be ashamed or embarrassed and the reason for that is because he is following what he believes is right and not wrong. Socrates mentions in his Apology that if someone were ever to ask him if he felt ashamed of living the life that he was living and he was being put to trial and tried for death for it he would say that he is wrong for having asked such a question like that. Wrong because if he is living and knows he is living a pious life then there is nothing to be ashamed of, he is living the way that the gods want him and everyone else to live and that is by having self knowledge. It would then be wrong if one started living a life of falseness and wickedness by doing things that would get him to avoid death. Socrates also talks about how a good man should never assume he knows something when in reality he does not. I differ from the majority of men... I do know, however, that it is wicked and shameful to do wrong. To disobey one s superior, be he god or man. I shall never fear or avoid things of which I do not know, whether they may not be good rather than things that I know to be bad. (Apology, 29B C). Socrates mentions that if there is one thing that he differs from everyone else is that he acknowledges that he does not know about the underworld and there is no reason to fear. Whereas, Athenians claim that it is the greatest of all evils and they would do anything to avoid it. What Socrates then has that the Athenians do not have is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I think about this person I have always thought about the power of kindness and generosity that the human mind can have. This is the reason why this person and his wife are one my favorite and greatest leaders of this century. This individual has not only changed the world by ben affectionate for mankind, especially as shown in his devotion of work or wealth to people around the world but has also been a great innovator and leader in the world of technology. Allen was a reserved individual, while Bill was feisty and sometime combative. I believe that this where qualities that aided him to weather through various storms to come. • 4. America’s Domination of the Film Industry Looking at the film industry as we now know it, it s hard to imagine that America wasn t always the film producing machine we see it as now. Yet, when we begin looking at all the technological advances that took place in film over time and the events which occurred during these periods, it was a complex journey. In the following essay we are going to discuss why I believe that the wars faced both foreign and domestic played the biggest factor in the American Filmindustry s rise to dominance by the 1950s. Birth of Film: As with all things it s probably best to start with the beginning; the birth of film. Eadweard Muybridge was hired in 1872 to capture images of a horse running to settle a debate as to whether all four feet of a horse were off the ground at the same time while trotting. Little did he know that by capturing these images he eventually would spark the invention of the kinetscope by Thomas Edison in the 1880s. By the late 1890s movies could be projected onto a screen and audiences finally were able to attend public demonstrations. In 1905 the world s first nickelodeon devoted to film exhibition was opened in Pittsburgh, PA by Harry Davis. Nickelodeons (named for both the price of admission and the Greek word for theater ) soon spread across the country, the number of nickelodeons reached around 8000 between 1907 and 1908, and by 1910 it was estimated that as many as 26 million Americans visited these theaters every week. • 6. Compare Beowulf Is An Epic Hero Archetypes Epic Hero This essay is going to be comparing how the character Beowulf and Roy Hobbs are alike and different. Statistics show that there is a lot of similarities between these two reads and both a great example of an Epic Hero archetype. They both show strong characteristics of a Epic Hero but are different people in general and their goals or priorities in what they are trying to accomplish are completely different. Beowulfhas strength like no other. He is your typical epic hero . He Saves the day in a majestic and seeming to be an impossible epic way. Like for a couple examples of his strength is how he ripped off grendel s arm when he tried to run away. No normal person would be able to do that. Another example is when he picked up the mighty sword when he slew grendel s motheras everyone was appalled by his strength. Beowulf is a very good example of an epic hero. He Is very strong and it seems like he does a lot stuff that is not possible and is a very good leader and persuasive. People follow in his footsteps because he is a great influence on the people. Beowulf is in an older time where people were not as advanced as us and have to fight all the time and there are an evil beast to slay. They way people act or are treated are a lot different than the way people are treated in Roy Hobbs. The people in the book of Beowulf are a lot more barbaric, like when Beowulf ripped off grendel s arm and they hung it up on front of the door for everyone to see. Then when ... • 7. The Island Of Dr. Moreau Throughout time ethically controversial sciences, from vivisection to stem cell research, have embodied a negative stereotype in the eyes of western societies, and have consequently withdrawn the freedom that allows scientists to make innovative discoveries. In H.G. Wells novel The Island of Doctor Moreau, this perspective is portrayed through Edward Prendick, an upper class English gentleman with a subtle passion for science. After being stranded on a remote pacific island isolated from civilization, Prendick s perspective on Dr. Moreau s unethical and controversial studies begins to transform over time. The idea that isolation from civilization can result in the freedom to explore one s curiosity is portrayed through Prendick s initial unacceptance of Moreau s vivisection, which, as time on the island elapses, reshapes to one of interest. In The Island of Doctor Moreau, as Edward Prendick spends more time away from civilized society, his perspective regarding Dr. Moreau s ethically controversial discipline, vivisection, begins to shift from a sense of repugnance to one of enthusiasm. Through these perspectives, H.G. Wells argues that Prendick s isolation from civilization is the principle force allowing him to freely embrace the unethical studies on the island and explore his natural curiosity for science, whereas the consequences from negative stereotypes surrounding controversial science would discourage this curiosity in a civilized society. Initially, since Prendick ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Testament Of The Old Testament The Old Testament is the largest part of the bible nestled behind the leather binding in the front of the book. Unlike most books, told from one person or even two this is comprised of multiple, some stories even having two different versions in another point of view; over time it has become a large collection of ancient texts written and re written by different authors and editors over the many years. The stories show the ancient Israelites, they show the laws, and rituals, which make up their religion and the small embers, which will one day, turn to a flame that is Christianity. The Jewish people view these stories as collected in what they call the Torah, is the collection for what makes up their history and the promise that God gave to them, as well as their laws and what they worship today. For the Christians the Old Testamentis still seen as sacred, but most place a stronger importance to the New Testament. How the Old Testament is known today, it was composed of works from the first century B.C.E. However, on the other hand the books themselves date back to later dates close to the eleventh centuries or even maybe earlier. [Source] The Old Testament takes place in what we now call today the Middle East, which extended from modern day Iraq all the way to southwest Egypt. However, the majority of the events take place in Palestine. It sat nestled right between the Egyptian Empire in the south to the Babylonian Empires in the north and east. This area is essential ... • 11. Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys Rochester and Antoinette are two characters that are both outsiders of their respective communities. Antoinette is excluded from both the white and black communities, and eventually it leads to her instability and uneasiness throughout the novel. While being excluded from the community isn t dreadful enough, she suffers being called a white cockroach (23) and becoming an aberration through her own husband s eyes, Rochester. Moreover, Rochester is ignored by his own family. His isolation stems from the letter he sends to his father, stating that I will never be a disgrace to you or my dear brother the son you love (70). His bitterness implies that his father favors his brother much more than he favors Rochester. He is also separated from the black population, as he tells Antoinette that he would never hug and kiss [a black person] (91). His haughty behavior eventually confines him from the population on the island. Ultimately, Antoinette s and Rochester s struggles pushes these characters to a new extreme in which it pushes Rochester to lock his wife in the attic and Antoinette to write [her] name in fire red (53) by the end of the novel . Throughout Wide Sargasso Sea, Jean Rhys magnifies the themes of madness and power by analyzing Rochester s and Antoinette s interactions with one another to ultimately teach a lesson that can be interpreted in many different ways. Smith and Raskob teamed up and were racing against Walter Chrysler (founder of the Chrysler Corporation) to build the tallest building. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of building such a fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay higher rents in tall buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and became even wealthier (Mann 12). Consequently, the next step was to find a location for the building. The Waldorf Astoria Hotel had an excellent location at a busy intersection on Fifth Avenue (Britton 14). This hotel used to be very popular but since styles had changed, the people who owned the building wanted it to move to a different location and build a newer and better looking hotel. The new location was served by public transportation, shops, museums, and entertainment. In 1928, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel was sold to Bethlehem Engineering Corporation. John Raskob and Alfred Smith bought the site when the sale fell through (Britton 7). They wanted to start construction on the Empire State Building immediately but had to demolish the hotel first. You pass by this pond and noticed that there is a small child drowning and realize there isn t much time to call anyone for help. You could stride into the water and pull her to safety, but If you take the time to remove your shoes and it ll be too late. People only help went they are faced with the opportunity and then based their decision to help with their own moral values. Singer created a great thought experiment in a way that tests one s moral value, but one flaw would be that there wasn t anyone else around in the situation. You are the only one around in the setting therefore you must help the child. So, the question is, what if there were many people standing around in the same location? Would we all have to the responsibility to have to save the child or will we not stand and watch. According to Singer, if you can help others avoid harm, then you are morally obligated to help them. However, I don t believe this is always the case. Cortisol Research Paper Cortisol production is stimulated by ACTH secretion from the anterior pituitary via numerous feedback mechanisms according to the circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the early morning and smaller fluctuations throughout the day. ACTH secretion is stimulated by CRH in the hypothalamus which is stimulated by things such as: decreases in plasma cortisol, hypoglycemia, stress, and infection. Secretion of ACTH leads to conversion of cholesterol to cortisol in the zona fasciculata of the adrenal gland via various cytochrome P450 enzymes. Increased levels of cortisol itself cause negative feedback on the pituitary and hypothalamus. The zona glomerulosa is the site of production of Aldosterone, the principal mineralocorticoid, via similar mechanisms (cytochrome p 450.) Aldosterone production is stimulated by activation of the renin angiotensin system in response to decreased intravascular volume (sensed by baroreceptors), decreased sodium levels sensed in the macula densa of the nephron, and by the sympathetic nervous system in response to stress. His many works span in genre and form, from the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet to the poem of a father s unconditional love and eventual acceptance of a loved one s death. Through a vast variety of linguistic and structural techniques, he is able to promote, develop and explain his personal ideology of love. Evidence of this is seen through the character of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and the narrative voice in a selection of sonnets. Within sonnet 116, Shakespeare personifies the abstract noun of love when he states Whose worth s unknown . Through personifying his ideology of true love, it makes it increasingly ... The word But , although with negative connotations, is used to positively emphasise the importance of the new phase of acceptance of his son s death, and the continuation of his paternal love. It is through this line that Shakespeare goes on to explain how his love for his son will never diminish, as it is immortalised, along with his son, in the poem. This is the act of creating an autotelic memorial in that the poem will never fade away, ever when the writer dies. Due to this, Shakespeare is able to show that his concept of love, no matter what form it is in, is so strong and true that it is infinite and can overcome all obstacles, even death itself. To a 16th century reader, the concept of love taking many forms and overcoming even death was unconventional, as it contrasted greatly to the accepted ideal of courtly love, which was limited and weak. To a modern day reader, whose greatest fear is death; being told love overcomes death reassures them of its strength. This promotes Shakespeare s ideology, especially through contrast in the ... However, the oil industry, with its history of booms and busts [4], is currently in its worst economic standing since 1990s. The recent drop in oil prices in the global market has directly affected the energy sectors and highly influenced different industries. Moreover, visible minorities and indigenous peoples are underrepresented even in major urban cities as urban centers with Canada s largest concentrations of immigrant and ethno racially diverse populations have been systematically underrepresented in the House of Commons (Trimble, 2011, p. 369). In fact, the elected members of Parliament do not reflect the populations that vote for them as major Canadian constituencies that are demographically diverse are still represented by the archetypal official who is male, white, middle class, middle aged, Canadian born and majority language speaking (Trimble, 2011, p. 369). Modern definition of an illness would be the pain a sick person feels. However, people may pretend to be sick and this is another addition to deviant behavior. Parson has four main points when it comes to the sick role. First is the sick person is allowed to be excused from his or usual social roles. How much leniency is given depends on the severity of the illness. For example, a person with pneumonia has permission to take days off from work. The employer wouldn t fire this person for taking days off if proper documentation by the doctor is given and pneumonia is a serious illness that can be viral. Second is the sick person isn t held accountable for being ill because this is something that the person can t control. The human body is mysterious, which is why a sick person with strong willpower can survive from a deadly disease. Third is the sick person doesn t want to be sick and will try whatever means necessary to not be a deviant, which means being ill. Her monography Consuming Grief can then serve as a great primary source for analysis of cannibalism. In the past, amongst Wari people both forms of cannibalism occurred. They practiced warfare cannibalism as well as mortuary, however, no anthropologist has ever seen it live. Details about the rituals itself then only come from the informants. When a Wari person passed away, they left the body to decay for around three days and then they gathered to hold a ceremony for the deceased. Gregor Mendel, who is known as the father of modern genetics , was inspired by both his professors at the PalackГЅ University, Olomouc (Friedrich Franz and Johann Karl Nestler), and his colleagues at the monastery (such as Franz Diebl) to study variation in plants. In 1854, Napp authorized Mendel to carry out a study in the monastery s 2 hectares (4.9 acres) experimental garden,[16] which was originally planted by Napp in 1830.[13] Unlike Nestler, who studied hereditary traits in sheep, Mendel focused on plants. Mendel carried out his experiments with the common edible pea in his small garden plot in the monastery. These experiments were begun in 1856 and completed some eight years later. In 1865, he described his experiments in two lectures at a regional scientific conference. In the first lecture he described his observations and experimental results. In the second, which was given one month later, he explained them. After initial experiments with pea plants, Mendel settled on studying seven traits that seemed to be inherited independently of other traits: seed shape, flower color, seed coat tint, pod shape, unripe pod color, flower location, and plant height. He first focused on seed shape, which was either angular or round.[17] Between 1856 and 1863 Mendel cultivated and tested some 28,000 plants, the majority of which were pea plants (Pisum sativum).[18][19][20] This study showed that, when true breeding different varieties were crossed to each other (e.g., tall plants fertilized by short plants), one in four pea plants had purebred recessive traits, two out of four were hybrids, and one out of four were purebred dominant. ... Idiocracy Analysis Idiocracy For a movie that had almost no marketing done for it and was released in theaters in only six cities, Mike Judge s Idiocracy, released in 2006, has become an extremely successful movie. Fox sat on the movie for over a year before finally releasing it in theaters. It didn t even have so much as a movie trailer or an official movie poster. When Idiocracydid finally hit the theaters, the movie was only shown for two weeks. And shortly after that it went right to DVD, still without much marketing at all. A movie treated like that is usually because it s not any good, but in spite of all that Idiocracy has become a cult classic and is known as one of Mike Judges best creations. If you are a fan of any of Mike Judge s other work like Office Space, Beavis and Butt heador Daria then you will definitely enjoy Idiocracy. It does not hold back on any of the satirical humor that Judge is known for. It pokes fun at society and how it can feel like we re getting dumber. It also targets large corporations and how they re growing and controlling more and more of people s everyday lives. If you were never a fan Beavis and Butthead and couldn t get over how incredibly stupid the two boys were, than this movie may not be for you. • 51. Septic Trucks Septic pumping is a job that can go one of two ways: poorly or well. With appropriate equipment that is well maintained and right for the job, a job should be accomplished quickly and easily. When vehicle parts are not maintained or used properly, problems may happen. Other than the pumps, the main trouble with any new or used septic trucks that are part of a work fleet are the results of improper use and maintenance of the hoses. Equipment Working Together In order to achieve the most efficient vacuum in a tank that will give the pump the power for strong suction, the tank and pump must be appropriately sized to work together; a bigger tank or pump does not necessarily work any better. An incorrectly matched pump and tank can cause hose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When too small, material can create too much friction on the inside and get clogged; when too large, there can be too much air flowing into the tube and tank to allow for proper vacuuming. Keeping all connected lengths of hose the same diameter the entire length is important to prevent blockages. Keeping Hoses Working Naturally, a dirty suction line that is allowed to collect material inside it when not regularly and properly cleaned is going to have a problem siphoning anything. This problem is frequently experienced after purchasing used septic trucks as it is impossible to know if a previous owner cleaned the hoses correctly. At best, vacuuming could be inefficient; at its worst, it could stop altogether when the lines get clogged. The answer is to always keep hoses stored clean and empty, although there is a definite trick to doing this. Normally, operators can clear out dirty suction lines by keeping the pump on even when done working in order to clear out any remaining material left in the hose when the pumps were shut down. Once there is nothing left to vacuum, the pumps will no longer suction as there is not a vacuum in the tank, although the tubes should be empty at that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Heavy Metal Contamination of the Earth and Water Essay Heavy metal contamination is a major environmental hazard worldwide, leading to losses in agricultural yields as well as causing harmful effect on human health entering through the food chain. Although they exist naturally, toxic level of heavy metals occurs in the environment or soil due to mainly industrial and agricultural operations. Chromium (Cr) is the seventh most abundant element on earth and second largest contributor of ground water, soiland sediment contamination [1]. Release of Cr containing compounds to the environment is mainly due to electroplating, leather tanning, metal finishing, corrosion control and pigment manufacturing industries [2].2) Annually about 3Г—104, 1.42Г—105 and 8.96Г—105 tons of Cr are released to the... On the other hand, tree species have a long growing period and not suitable for agricultural crop field. These limitations positioned economically valuable annual crop species in an important place for the removal of Cr from soil. Methods for the disposal of the metal enriched biomass have not yet been well developed [23].23) However, the reuse of the harvest biomass in non food industries are being investigated [24].24)s Jute (Corchorus spp.) and kenaf (Hibiscus canabinas) are a natural fiber crops and considered second in the world after cotton in terms of global production, consumption and availability [25].25) It is an annual fiber crop with tall stem and deep penetrating taproot. The plant grows fast and easily in nutrient poor soil and produces a large amount of valuable biomass. It produces soft, shiny and long fiber for wide usages. It is a completely biodegradable, recyclable and eco friendly lingo cellulose fiber 26,27].26,27) In this work, we assessed the Cr phytoremediation potential of jute and kenaf with the idea of combining phytoremediation and the production ... • 54. Unique Capabilities Of Modelling Construction Materials Capdeivila Werning (2011) writes that buildings, including the Kampung house, can open our understanding of the unique capabilities of modelling construction materials in specific environments. These houses are not built by commercial architects or designers but by experienced village master builders, through the soul, the hands and labourers of the community. This allows each houseto take on a unique personality and character reflecting its inhabitants. The beauty of this architecture has long been dismissed as accidental, but today we should be able to recognize it as the result of rare good sense in the handling of practical problems. The shape of the houses, sometimes transmitted through a hundred generations, seem eternally valid, like those of their tools (Rudofsky,1964, p4). A popular design detail introduced in the traditional Kampung house is wood carvingwhich responds to the culture and community. Wood carving is an extremely difficult and precious talent passed down through generations. However, it is a dying practice and has become an expensive business only unique to those interested in the preservation of the Kampung house style and those who appreciate the art. Wood carvings are not only ornamentally aesthetic but have a lot of sacred meanings as well as being visually attractive in the internal living environment as shown in Figure 11. The wood carvings along the walls, windows and door frames often represents stories, depicting different tales ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
