PID-based temperature control device for electric kettleIJECEIAES
A normal electric kettle usually is intended to boil water until boiling point and cannot be controlled. Most of the kettle does not provide the temperature display for user to track the current temperature reading. Thus, this project is inspired from the shortcoming of most kettles that are sold at the market. By using Arduino microcontroller, a device is developed to control water temperature inside electric kettle. To provide automated temperature control, PID controller is chosen since it can provides precise water temperature control with less fluctuation. The device is also equipped with the display of the current water temperature and desired temperature. The device is tested to an electric kettle and the performance of PID controller in controlling water temperature is compared to on-off controller. An analysis is performed based on the amount of fluctuation with respect to desired temperature to verify the efficacy of the designed circuit and controller. It is found that the developed device and PID controller are capable to control the water temperature inside kettle based on the desired temperature set by user with less amount of fluctuation

Thermo-electric (TE) technology is used in both electricity generation and air-conditioning. The Thermo-electric coolers(TEC) uses Peltier effect which converts the electrical energy applied from the ends of the Thermo-electric module into the temperature difference. The main objective of the work is to design a highly reliable and wearable jacket that controls extreme temperatures say working in thermal power plants, within the jacket. The extreme temperatures can be monitored using temperature sensors placed on both sides of the Thermo-electric cooler module and controlled using ARM LPC2148 Microcontroller. In Industries, this jacket provides a more practical and safer solutions for human working under extreme temperatures. Furthermore, this jacket can also be applied as a good warmer one for human beings working in cold regions(say Polar regions).

In the current revolution of digital world, people like convenience in using technology to make their life more easy and comfortable. People feels to control their home appliances like light, fan etc. in more convenient way rather than by switch board as they need walking across the room to either on or off such appliances. The varying line voltages due to use of backup power like IPS or generator and sudden change of weather at night during our sleep results cold related diseases like coughing and fever from high speed of fan. These cold related diseases due to these situations are very common for babies and old people. This project will remove these problems by giving constant fan speed even if the line voltage varies and by changing the fan speed with the change of ambient temperature. This system also has additional features like two different set of remote control system (IR and Bluetooth) embedded together and a 16x2 LCD display which shows various information like output voltage and room temperature.

Abstract
The idea of this project is to utilise the waste heat energy being generated in automobiles. It involves the trapping of heat energy being generated from the heat source in vehicles and convert to electrical energy which can be used for many appliances. The heat energy and the temperature from the heat source is being sensed by the thermocouple and is converted to electrical energy by a device called Thermoelectric Generator which works on Seebeck effect. The electric potential produced in thermoelectric generator is boosted by the boost converter thereby increasing the magnitude of voltage, required for charging battery. Further, the battery is connected to run the auxiliary appliances in the system.

A theoretical analysis on the performance of (Bi2Te3-PbTe) hybrid thermoelectric generator (TEG) is presented in this paper. The effect of different performance parameters such as output voltage, output current, output power, maximum power output, open circuit voltage, Seebeck co-efficient, electrical resistance, thermal conductance, figure of merit, efficiency, heat absorbed and heat removed based on maximum conversion and power efficiency have been analyzed by varying the hot side temperature up to 350oC and by varying the cold side temperature from 30oC to 150oC. The results showed that a maximum power output of 21.7 W has been obtained with the use of one hybrid thermoelectric module for a temperature difference of 320oC between the hot and cold side of the thermoelectric generator at matched load resistance. The figure of merit was found to be around 1.28 which makes its usage possible in the intermediate temperature (250oC to 350oC) applications such as heating of Biomass waste, heat from Biomass cook stoves or waste heat recovery etc. It is also observed that the hybrid thermoelectric generator offers superior performance over 250oC of the hot side temperature, compared to standard Bi2Te3 modules.

Abstract To develop a home heating system with high efficiency, the outdoor temperature is not the only parameter to be considered but also disturbances such as ventilation, door/window openings and personal lifestyle. The aim of the project is to develop the home heating system which adapts itself to changing customer demands using fuzzy logic. The energy consumption and the outdoor temperature of the house were monitored over a period of one year to produce the data required to program the fuzzy controller and thereby the appropriate set temperature will be determined. When load disturbances such as door/window openings are given, there is an increase in the energy required by the heater. This additional energy is obtained as an output from the fuzzy controller and given to the heating system. The design, optimization and implementation of the fuzzy controller are supported by LabVIEW software

An Automatic Temperature Monitoring and Control System for Electric Power Dis...ijtsrd
A power distribution panel plays an important role in the distribution of electrical power in factories or buildings. Through separate wirings, the electrical input that comes into the distribution panel is split up and sent to different parts of the building. At certain temperature, some electric distribution panel components may be highly flammable, posing a fire or explosion risk. As a solution to the issue of excessive temperature rise in the distribution panel, an automatic temperature control system was designed and implemented. The prototype design includes a mechanical thermostat that also functions as a sensor, an electric fan, and a miniature circuit breaker. The design works in such a way that the temperature controller actuates the cooling system when the panels temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius. The results of the test show that the designed system can detect changes in temperature and turn on the cooling fan to ensure the panels temperature does not exceed the safe level temperature of 40 0C. This system serves as a tool for solving temperature recognition issues in electric power distribution panels. Mbamaluikem, P. O. | Okeke, H. S. | Fagbuaro, E. O. Intelligent Management on the Home Consumers with Zero Energy Consumptionijeei-iaes
The energy and environment crisis has forced modern humans to think about new and clean energy sources and in particular, renewable energy sources. With the development of home network, the residents have the opportunity to plan the home electricity usage with the goal of reducing the cost of electricity. In this regard, to improve the energy consumption efficiency in residential buildings, smart buildings with zero energy consumption were considered as a proper option. Zero-energy building is a building that has smart equipment whose integral of generated and consumed power within a year is zero. In this article, smart devices submit their power consumption with regard to the requested activity associated with the user’s time setting for run times and end times of the work to the energy management unit and ultimately the time to start work will be determined. The problem’s target function is reducing the energy cost for the consumer with taking into account the applicable limitations.
Modelling of solar micro gas turbine for parabolic dish based controller appl...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
Dish-Stirling unit and photovoltaic panels are the premier technologies available to generate off-grid solar energy. The major issue for both systems is in terms of producing output power. Air-Brayton cycle was utilized asan engine by converting the thermal energy to electricity. Micro gas turbine (MGT) has been recognized as one of the viable alternatives compared to Stirling engines, where it represents a state-of-art parabolic dish engine specifically in turbine gas technology. Hence, the microgas turbine is a technology that is capable of controlling low carbon while providing electricity in off-grid regions. MGT uses any gas as its input like natural gas, bio gas and others. Micro gas turbine has advantages for its high expansion ratio and less moving components. Compared to competing for diesel generators, the electricity costs from hybrid solar units were reduced between 10% and 43%, where as specific CO2 emissions reduced by 20-35%. MGT provides advantages over photovoltaic systems such as the inherent ability to hybridize the systems with hydrocarbon fuels to produce electricity around the clock, and the ability to operate more effectively in very hot climates with photovoltaic performance degradation over the life time of the system. Hybrid solar micro gas-turbines are cost-effective, eco-friendly and pollution free as they can work by burning any gas like natural gas, landfill gasa and others. This paper presented the controls contained in the MGT-dish system consisted of temperature control, fuel flow control, speed and acceleration control. Aconceptual design of the 25kW MGT-dish system was also covered.

Abstract
This article presents the development of
a novel microcontroller based electric
cooker/Oven with time and temperature control.
It employs the rich application of ATmega8-
microcontroller as the core component. The
system is software driven through the C-
language code written to the microcontroller.
Temperature control is achieved using a
temperature sensor (LM35). The sensor monitors
and measures the temperature of the system,
keeping it at a preset value. The internal timing
function of the microcontroller is used to time the
cooking, baking or drying process. This whole
cycle of temperature and time control is repeated
until the set time elapses or until the item being
cooked, dried or baked is ready (that is when the
time is set to infinity mode). These processes
conserve power and essential food nutrients. The
cooker/oven is a cutting edge innovation and it is
efficient, reliable and user friendly.

microcontroller, control, efficiency
Introduction
Energy has been identified as an
indispensable factor that enhances the
socioeconomic development of a country (Rahman,
M. M. et al) 2012. Socio-economic prosperity is said
to dependent largely upon energy conservation
(Yong, K. P et al). Satisfying the need of required
energy to be consumed in any given society will
require that while the Government and private
organizations are making effort to generate
sufficient electricity, as much as possible the
citizenry must devise means for optimum utilization
(Rahman, M. M. et al) 2012. Most electric cookers
available today lack the vital aspect of control,
which has led to several losses ranging from food
burning, power wastage, human losses etc. This
among other factors has inspired the need of
integrating control in electric cookers in a bid to
reduce to the barest minimum or completely
eliminate some these losses. The major parameters
that can often be controlled in an electric cooker or
oven are the cooking temperature and time.
Generally, control of temperature and time can be
realized in two ways; either using analogue designs
or digital designs. Analogue designs generally make
use of simple timers and thermostats to regulate the
time and temperature respectively where as digital
designs make use of components such as
microcontrollers, sensors, integrated circuits etc.
Digital designs generally offer the advantages of
more precision and accuracy, cheaper cost, less
susceptibility to noise and interference from the
circuit, easy troubleshooting, more flexibility etc
over analogue designs (Bany Wooland G) 1984.
This paper continues in the following pattern: part 2
presents a review of related works, part 3 describes
the concept of microcontroller based electric
cooker/oven, part 4 deals with
Performance evaluation, part 5 presents discussion
of results, and the conclusion is presented in part 6.

Md. M. Rahman et al (2012) in their work
titled Microcontroller Based Smart Natural Gas
Oven recommended that meeting energy demand at
desired level requires taking initiative to increase
gas supply and ensuring its optimum utilization.
3. Description of Micro-Controller Based
Electric Cooker/Oven
On switching on the device, it is required
that the user set the temperature, and afterwards the
time is required to be inputted by the user. The LCD
is used to communicate with the user as an output
device (Hitachi Semiconductors and inctegrated
circuits, 1998). The user can decide to set the time
to infinity mode if he or she does not want to set
time limits. The relay then switches on the hot plate
element and the temperature sensor LM35 begins to
measure and monitor the temperature of the system
(National Semiconductor) 2008. As soon as the
temperature exceeds the set temperature, the coil of
the relay is energized and the relay operates and
switches off the hot plate element. It remains off
until the internal temperature of the system drops
again and the relay is energized once more and it
switches on the hotplate element once more. While
all this is going on, the time continues to decrease
(that is if not set to infinity mode) and as long as the

set time has not elapsed, the whole cycle continues
to repeat itself until the set time elapsed. This
control is achieved by means of the C language code
written to the microcontroller (ATMEL
Corporation, 2011). The flow chart for this
programme is as shown in figure 1.

4. Performance Evaluation
In this section, an evaluation of the performance of
the microcontroller based electric cooker/ oven was
computed. The cooker/oven operated well as
expected. The cooker switched off at intervals
indicating that the set temperature had been
exceeded and thus saving power. When the set time
elapsed, the cooker went off automatically
indicating that the program cycle worked properly.
The tests were carried out at a voltage of 230 V.
5. Results and Discussion
The bar chart of figure 2 compares the duration of
cooking some selected items using both the micro-
controller based electric cooker/oven and
unregulated hot plate under temperature and time
control. It is observed that the unregulated hot plate
element cooks faster than the microcontroller based
electric cooker/oven. However, as can be seen the
time difference is very small. The difference is
minutes.
NB: On the vertical axis time is measured in
minutes.

6 CONCLUSION
From the tests and analysis carried out, the
time lag in cooking ranges between 1 to 6 minutes
approximately. For two of the items, the
cooker/oven outperformed the hot plate while for
the rest the hot plate did better. However, electrical
energy is conserved due to the fact that without
monitoring the cooker/oven goes off at the time set;
while the unregulated hot plate except continually
monitored, goes on dissipating energy even after the
item on it is ready for use or consumption. Hence
we conclude that the cooker/oven is an efficient
energy conserver.
