Gandhi returned to India from South Africa and settled in Sabarmati, where he founded the Satyagraha Ashram. In 1921, Gandhi gave a call for non-cooperation against British rule, leading many Indians to renounce titles and honors and leave schools and colleges. The educational boycott was particularly successful in Bengal under leaders like Chitta Ranjan Das and Subhas Chandra Bose. The non-cooperation movement severely impacted the British government.
