This document provides an overview of basic workplace hazards and safety controls. It aims to help workshop participants identify how injuries can affect their lives, common work-related health issues, and exposures and hazards linked to illnesses and injuries. The document outlines major categories of hazards including chemical, biological, ergonomic, work organization, safety, and physical hazards. It then describes the hierarchy of controls to address hazards, ranging from most effective engineering controls to least effective personal protective equipment. Specific control examples are provided for each level.
