Ancient Year Vs Day Rule Essay
The Ancient Year and A Day Rule
The year and a day rule is a common law rule. In a time when medical miracles and forensics were
either extremely slow or unheard of, time was a more dictating factor in the enforcement of laws
and crimes committed.According to Sir William Blackstone, an English jurist, judge, and politician
of the 18th century, a death upgrade to murder requires that the death occur within one year and a
day of the initial injury. When figuring the qualifications tallying begans on the day of infliction..
The belief that this common law has been laid to rest and unused is incorrect. The idea that based
on modern science and the ability to easier prove cause of death and then build the appropriate
case has led to the widespread dismissal of the year and a day rule. Referring to sections 9 and
10 of Article I, many appeals based on this rule have been denied because according to the
Article, the U.S Constitution forbids Congress and all states from enacting ex post facto laws
defined as Done or made after the fact; having retroactive force or effect , (Blacks Law pg. 518).
The following two cases challenge retroactive application in a more current perspective. ... Show

A defendant can possess mens rea and still try to do the right thing. In the case of abuse, some
parents and adult victims still try to seek medical attention for the injured party, while others flee or
attempt to conceal the act. Where there is theft, there are defendants who attempt to return the
merchandise, sometimes successful in avoiding prosecution and sometimes not, and so on. The
presence of mens rea is not the sole guarantee of a conviction, however it is a very important part,
and can determine case value almost immediately. It can also, as stated previously, give insight to a
defense as well as project the application of sentencing guidelines and plea agreements to be

State Farm Advertising Analysis
Today, advertising is as much a part of our lives as breathing. Whether we re driving, listening to
the radio, or watching T.V we are constantly being bombarded by thousands of companies telling
us why we should buy their products or services. Some advertisements prove to be effective,
while others can be easily dismissed. One very popular industry in advertisement is auto insurance.
Every year companies like Geico, State Farm, and All State invest millions of dollars, hoping to
convince audiences that their service is better than their competitors. Because auto insurance is a
requirement for every single individual who owns a vehicle it is a very competitive market where
various ad campaigns can be found. State Farm stands out amongst... Show more content on

As in the previous example, the commercial emphasizes State Farm s reliability. This time however,
there is no desperation because the young woman is so certain that her agent will get things
resolved. Just like the previous commercial, the ad uses pathos to convince their audience,
assuring them that State Farm will allow them to be stress free. The granting of the friends wishes
for the perfect man helps to reinforce the aspect of great service because it represents the company
s ability to go above and beyond for their customers. Again, pathos is presented through humor,
making the ad memorable and reinforcing the company s point: when you have State Farm there is
no need for desperation because they have you covered. Ethos is also once again reinforced through
the agent s professional attire, creating an ethical image for the company.
The next memorable ad in the campaign takes a different twist, because rather than promoting auto
insurance, it promotes home insurance. In this scenario, a group of young men are sitting at home
when a baseball suddenly breaks through the homeowner s window. As his friends begin to freak
out, the homeowner maintains the same relaxed attitude as the female from the previous example
and recites the magic jingle. Seeing his friends in shock as an agent magically appears he
encourages them to recite the jingle and make a request, which they follow by asking for a
sandwich, a pretty girl, and a hot

Process Of Negotiation Essay
Negotiation is a fundamental process used in resolving conflicts, making business deals, and in
managing working relationships with others. Negotiations occur for two reasons: (1) to resolve a
problem or dispute between parties, or (2) to create something new that neither party could do on
its own. Negotiating is a critical, every day skill that is essential anytime it is necessary to create
short term or long lasting agreements. For example: In 1996, Juwan Howard signed a contract
worth over $100 million with the Miami Heatand nearly became the highest paid NBA player
during the 96 97 NBA season. However, his contract was voided by the NBA citing that the Heat
exceeded its salary cap. On August 5, 1996 Howard returned to the folds... Show more content on

approached, as a free agent, he was eligible to move and work to gain more respect and power
through the process of being a free agent. The Miami Heat and President Pat Riley were looking
to get a stab at getting him in Miami. Juwan s Agent David Falk s Job was to get the most for his
client in the end no matter where he played. The Bullets had first crack at offers, ranging in the
high 8 figures and actuals would change as the bidding continued, but the Bullets were not the
only ones looking to Howard. The Miami Heat was also interested and would come into the play
with their own offers to be considered by Howard. During these proceedings, Alonzo Mourning
and many others were working their own deals with the Heat as well as the Bullets. During this
time Pat Riley indicated to Mourning that he would eventually be the highest player in Miami. This
statement would result in a complete unraveling of the most promised line up of players for this
NBA team and a potential of huge success.
As the bidding war continued, Juwan Howard would eventually sign on with the Heat for over
100 million over seven years and various other perks. Mourning on a July 16th interview
indicated his deal at over 100 Million. This caused NBA Officials to investigate over a potential
violation of salary cap because of the

Muslim Women Of Pakistan, By Tehmina Durrani s My Feudal...
A society that operates with male dominated ideologies and mechanisms contributes to the
disempowerment and subjugation of woman. This paper studies predicament of Muslim wives in
society of Pakistan through institution of marriage as depicted in Tehmina Durrani s My Feudal
Lord, an autobiographical narrative. The publication of My Feudal Lord received many awards
and made it exceptional and extraordinary literary work, which surfaces the issues of Muslim
women of Pakistan, and is still relevant as it contributes to the feminist cause. The book is a painful
account of a womans traumatic marriage in Pakistan, who suffers in silence for thirteen years and
then decides to come out of the life of abuse and humiliation. It also highlights the hidden agency of
a woman that has the potential to expose and challenge a male dominated society. Durrani s
courage, resistance and mighty pen become agents for change. These agents, along with exposition
of assumed authority of debauchery and superiority of male culture assist her in dismantling
established societal pattern of marriage. The process of evolution encourages her to reflect on the
woes of other women in Pakistani society and the ways to counter violence, inequality and isolation
in feudal trap. The paper demonstrates concerns like inequality, violence and male dominance and
argues that despite caught in a patriarchal trap woman with her conviction and femaleagency finds a
way to be heard and asserts herself in a conservative

John Kotter s Eight Stage Change Model
Abstract
This paper discusses John Kotter s Eight Stage Change Model and how it can be used as a guide
when implementing change within an organization. The roles of various stakeholders including
senior and emerging leaders, managers and employees throughout the eight stages are defined. In
addition, factors which can contribute to a failed organization change initiative are discussed.
Transforming an organization from a sub optimizing enterprise of independently functioning
departments to an organization that embraces cross functional teams and customer centric
integrated processes that focuses on delivering quality products and services requires a well defined
and implemented plan of action. In addition, transforming an ... Show more content on

It is at this stage that employees either accept or reject the organizational transformation. Sincere
belief in the transformation initiatives by employees is essential for success. Stage Five of the
Kotter Model allows for the employees to take risks or make changes to internal process that are
impeding the transformation effort. The success of the implementation of Stages One through Four
will provide employees the confidence and trust they need that will allow them to make suggestions
or change legacy processes that will add to the success of the transformation. Stage Six of the Kotter
Model is designed for the achievement of milestones throughout the course of the organizational
transformation. Stage Six includes creating short term wins that allows the organization to see
improvements and success which builds momentum (Kotter, 2007, p. 4). The momentum
experienced from the success of the short term wins could result in the expansion of the vision as
describe in Stage Seven of the Kotter Model. In addition, it is possible during Stage Seven of the
Kotter Model that departments, cross functional teams or employees can actually uncover
additional opportunities and initiate additional process improvements that support the vision of the

Cinema In The Philippine Cinema
The Philippine cinema is a roller coaster ride of different emotions and genres that serves the
Filipino people entertainment and enjoyment. Over the past century or so, we ve been filled up
with a lot different stories of characters that are relatable to the people. From the adventures of
Fernando Poe Jr. s Ang Panday to the comedic acts of Babalu and Dolphy, we can say that the
Philippine filmindustry is very reputable and prestigious just like those of in the other countries. In
today s generation, personally, I think people are getting sick of movies that depict mistresses and
anything about them. I also think that one of the genres that are on the rise is the Independent
films. Erik Matti s Indie film, Honor Thy Father, brings a very different tone and story to the plate.
The movie starts off with Edgar (John Lloyd Cruz) picking up his daughter from school. The scene
shifts to their house where Kaye (Meryll Soriano), Edgar s wife, is persuading a group of
friends to invest in her father s business where everyone gets significantly rich. Edgar sits from
behind, listening to how people believe in his wife s words. The next scene shows the essential
part of the story because the movie uses religion as a device to show the irony of being projected
as pure and wholesome can hide the evilness and cruelty of a person. Edgar s family is part of this
religious organization called the Church of Yeshua but Edgar is seen staring at the money being
donated by the people and

Essay about The Subculture of Scuba Divers
The focus of this research paper is to analyze the information, unique characteristics, and history
regarding the subculture of scuba divers. Scuba divers get to explore new, exciting, and
breathtaking regions in the ocean that many people never get to experience in their whole lives.
Scuba divers hold important roles in society because of the discoveries they make on a daily basis.
They provide much needed research that is important in the scientific community regarding newly
discovered marine species. Scuba divers get the opportunity to explore exceptionally beautiful ocean
features that include shipwrecks, coral reefs, and other stunning tropical ocean regions. Many

As time progressed, the equipment that was used for scuba diving began to be perfected, and
many workout clubs began featuring classes to train people how to dive (Ed LaRochelle, 2009).
This allowed scuba diving to become a leisure activity that anyone could engage in (Ed
LaRochelle, 2009). Jacques Cousteau was a famous scuba diver who made many discoveries,
including many new innovative tools and equipment such as the aquatic lung (Ryan Spence,
2010). He also produced over 100 television episodes discussing the different aspects of scuba
diving along with his new inventions (Ryan Spence, 2010). Sylvia Earle was another
recognizable person in the field of scuba diving (Sue Vander Hook, 2001). She was a famous
figure because she was the first person ever to dive to two hundred and fifty feet breathing
compressed air in a Jim Suit, and she broke many records for deepest dives in submersibles (Sue
Vander Hook, 2001). Thirdly, Augustus Siebe created a diving suit that included a copper helmet
and rubber material for a more flexible suit (John Bantin, 2007). This invention by Siebe allowed
divers to dive to deeper depths into the ocean and explore more wrecks and ocean features (John
Bantin, 2007). Jacques Cousteau once said, Innovation is nothing more than the tool of the
explorer... If you need something, you make it (Ryan Spence, 2010: 12). These explorers helped

TX. This organization offers meeting spaces for support/therapy groups to meet regularly in hopes
of adding and addiction free society. The room was setup with about 25 chairs formed in a circle
with a small opening for people to walk through. The meetingsare 1 hour long. I forgot to count the
number of people but if I remember correctly it was approximately 23 people attending including
myself. The meeting that I attended was a support group for children of alcohol parents. The
group is called ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics) and they meet weekly. The meeting that I
attended was held on Friday November 17, 2017 from 12:00pm 1:00pm. It is considered and
open group and people are welcome to come and go as they please. There is no membership but
donations are accepted. The donations are to help maintain the meeting space and other needs of
the group such as materials. I was probably one of a few people in the young adult group and there
were attendees upwards of 50 60 years of age.
I arrived to the group a few minutes early and had to ask for the facilitator. The organization does
not have any dealings with the groups they just for the meeting spaces and post the times of the
meetings. When I arrived to the room I asked for the facilitator and explained why I was there.

Propaganda Techniques In Animal Farm
The Use of Propaganda Techniques in Animal Farm Oppressive dictators will go to extraordinary
extremes and use tyrannical techniques to manipulate their citizens. Animal Farm, a satirical novel
written by George Orwell in 1944 45, offers powerful political commentary on totalitarian regimes
and the extent that leaders will go to in order to control their subjects and maintain political power.
Napoleon is a pig on the farm that supports the rebellion against a human named Mr. Jones,
embraces the philosophy of Animalism, ascends to power, and ultimately rules ruthlessly, evolving
into a corrupt and terrorizing character. In Animal Farm, Napoleon utilizes propaganda devices
such as the big lie, scapegoating, and manipulation of language to control the other animals on the
farm. The big lie, a ploy that offers a misrepresentation or distortion of facts, is used by Napoleon
in order to intentionally deceive the inhabitants of Animal Farm. At the start of the novel, Old
Major, a respected and aging pig, has pondered the ways that humans had taken advantage of the
animals on the farm. He develops the concept of Animalism, where all animals are... Show more

Analysis Of 100 Faces Of Death
Death is an inevitable and uncontrollable part of life that can be hard to accept. It can take a lot
of time to fully heal from the death of a loved one, but over time, it is normal to accept the full
reality of that loss (Good Grief: Healing from the Pain of Loss). In 100 Faces of Death , T.C. Boyle
sets up the idea that deathis unable to be escaped and can happen unexpectedly by telling the
stories of all the deaths that the main character has experienced. Boyle describes the main
character s feelings towards each of deaths to show the impact they have on his life. The main
character has not fully healed from the deaths that he has experienced, which negatively affects his
mental health and causes him to lose touch with reality. Readers often raise the question, What
could have been done to prevent him from ever feeling this way towards death? His attitude
towards death most likely formed because of his response to death and never reaching acceptance
in the grieving process.
People respond to death in many different ways depending on personality, gender, circumstances of
the loss, and support from others (Grief and Loss). Some people may have a prolonged and intense
reaction towards death while other people may heal a lot quicker (Wortman and Boerner). It is
normal to experience different emotions after a death such as, anger, resentment, guilt, fear, or
loneliness (Brand, Fox, and Bosch). Even the main character in 100 Faces of Death felt numb after

Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities
The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured
faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within
the higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000),
minority representation in the American higher educationsystem has generally been a major issue
for the academic community as a whole.
Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and
universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority
faculty members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority
faculty members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are
examined.
Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the
appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely
underrepresented in leadership positions. Higher education institutions have not achieved much
success with regard to minority recruitment to leadership positions by failing to aggressively recruit
minority applicants (Gibson Benninger, 1995).
Since its inception in 1987, the diversity program that was aiming to link academic excellence and
social diversity at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor campus has shown some improvement in
the number of their minority faculty members of tenured and

It s Time To Procrastinate In High School
My entire high school career has been pushing off assignments until the very last minute. Even
this paper has been pushed off until late hours of the night. It has been a problem for a long
time, but I have been reluctant to do anything about it. In high school it is easy to procrastinate
because there will always be people to sympathise with you. Getting on a different sleep
schedule is the first thing I am attempting to become less of a procrastinator. Recently, IOS
implemented a new app to the iphone to help people get to sleep earlier: I have been using this
app to my advantage. My laziness is like a ticking time bomb, if I am not careful I will go into

Not only is being lazy about school work not good for my grades, Ralph Waldo Emerson says it

it only takes 30 minutes out of my day, but it is a good habit to get into. A bad habit I need to get

Walt Disney Struggles
If at first you don t succeed, try, try again! No entrepreneur becomes famous overnight. It takes
years of hard work. Struggles. Difficulties. Some give up; some persevere. But they aren t
remembered for their mistakes. Who remembers that Steve Jobs dropped out of college? Or how
Oprah Winfrey lived in poverty as a child? They encountered struggles. But did they give up? No!
They persevered. And so did Walter Elias Disney. Despite his struggles early on, Walt Disney
worked hard and became a famous entrepreneur who transformed the entertainment industry.

Soon, Disney began to produce short animations for local businesses. The young man worked at
Kansas City Art Studio on the animation team. There he learned cut out animation and began to
experiment with different forms of animation at home (Walt Disney Biography). The aspiring

was unable to persuade his boss about its effectiveness, so Disney quit the job (Walt Disney

Focusing mostly on short animations, Disney produced six short films within a short time of
the company starting up. The nineteen year old was startled by his success and kept on

Literary And Cinematic Works Of `` Maus ``
In the decades following the end of World War II there have been many literary and cinematic
works portraying what life was like during the Holocaust. Many of these have come from
survivors themselves but never the less even some of the most well known works have come from
second generation Holocaust victims or rather children whose parents were a part of it. One of the
most renowned pieces is Art Spiegelman s non fiction graphic novel Maus. Originally published in
1980, it details the experiences of both Art as the son of a Holocaust survivor and his father
Vladek as an actual eyewitness. The novel describes their individual struggles as well as the toll
that has been taken on their relationship as a result of past events. Another famous and successful
work by the son of a Holocaust victim is Roberto Benigni s 1997 triple academy award winning
Italian comedy drama Life Is Beautiful . Written and directed by Benigni himself, he also portrays
the main role of Guido Orefice, an Italian Jew, who falls in love with a woman named Dora. They
subsequently get married and together have a son named GiousuГЁ. As the war approaches the

Religious Beliefs And The Role Of Dress In The Religious...
Religious ideologies regarding dress are based on religious organizations individual dogmas, who
believe that your outwardly appearance should reflect your inner beliefs. Similarly, adhering to a
strict code of dress, that symbolizes its group s traditions and customs, also helps in controlling
the body s sexuality. Hunt Hurst and Miller Spillman (2012) stated that being well dressed
(modestly) is a religious duty and not a personal preference (p. 266). Dress in a matter of speaking
is an outwardly symbol of religious identification and showing ones connectedness to their religious
organization. Arthur (n.d.) believes a group identity is projected through dress because people use
self presentation and self promotion to visually present identity that is congruent with their belief
systems (Religionand Dress, para. 1). Since each religious organization perceives the role of dress,
as it pertains to the expression of identity, differently one must also understand the basis of said
religious organizations beliefs in order to comprehend how their beliefs mirror the role of dress.
Islamis a monotheistic faith, one that believes in a single God, emphasizes submission to God or
Allah, as well as the group over the individual. The Qur an, the literal word of God, lays out the
role of dress and its meaning for both men and women (Hunt Hurst Miller Spillman, 2012; Islam,
2017). According to the Qur an men are to lower their gaze and be modest, which is purer for them,

Essay On Coastal Erosion
You stride down the California coast, and stumble upon a path that leads you along a clifftop.
Close your eyes and take a deep breath of the cool ocean air. Hear the sound of the seagulls
above your head, and waves crashing. Then as you open you eyes, you see homes on the
precipice of a ledge, about to tip over. A wave crashes against the cliff you stand on, and a
massive chunk falls into the foaming sea below! This just one of the horrid effects of coastal erosion
. Coastal erosion is a very large problem on the California coast, and if nothing is done to stop it, in
as little as 50 years, California will have little to no beaches.[1]
Coastal erosion happens when waves strike a cliff so many times, that the cliff slowly is worn
down. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common of these re sea walls. They are as their name suggests, a wall of cement
separating the beach from the land behind it. These are not very good because although they
prevent the erosion of the land behind it, they cause the sand in front of the wall to disappear
quicker. The waves are forced back on themselves and collect more debris and sand than they
usually would. These sea walls also create even more erosion where the sea wall ends, because
of the way the waves travel. Other cities are transporting sand in from around the country, but
only to need more within a few years. The next form of erosion prevention is called at groyne.
Groynes are hard structures perpendicular to the beach and are often used in groups. They can be
either above water, or below water, depending on the slope of the beach. Groynes work better than
seawalls at protecting beaches, but still don t prevent beach erosion. Surprisingly, a very good way
to prevent beach erosion is to plant more plants on the dunes. The plants help hold the sand and
collect sand from the waves.
There are a few ways the everyday citizen can help prevent coastal erosion. The simplest way is to
reduce your carbon footprint. By reducing your carbon footprint less greenhouse gasses are
produced, so sea level rise is slowed. Some way to reduce your carbon footprint are to, drive less,
turn off lights, recycle, use less water, and eat locally

The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War
The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the
culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States,
France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further
conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war
(Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused
by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of
German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of
Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213
of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to
significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and
air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000
troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers,
twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). What is worse is the fact that
Germany was not able to defend itself anymore as it had to get rid of bunkers, defense systems and
mines from rivers, seas and harbors (1) and was prohibited to possess poison gas, armed aircraft,
tanks, blockades on ships and armored cars (2).

Catcher In The Rye Journey
The maturing of oneself is not only a journey of self discovery, but a process of the mind. In the
Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger we follow a teenager who s ups and downs fill the
plot of the book. The teenager, Holden Caulfield, shows the reader what it can be like when going
through many tragedies as a young adult. The book is followed by a set of many questions.
Throughout the book you find the answer to these question and why Holden becomes what he
becomes. Relating to these questions, the thoughts of Holden s sanity and happiness are pulled
under the microscope. As the novel the Catcher in the Rye progresses, Holden Caulfieldfinds
himself on a journey to maturity; he goes from being an angry teenager that dislikes phonies... Show

Furthermore, when Holden is watching Phoebe on the carousel he talks about what truly
growing up is. He says , All the kids kept trying to grab for the gold rings and so was Old Phoebe,
and I was sort of afraid she d fall off the goddam horse... The thing with kids is, if they want to
grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything (Salinger 211). This part
in the book finally shows us that Holden has realized you can t hold back growing up. And in
turn Holden grew up a little himself. When Holden says you have to let them do it , he means
you have to let them grow up. This is one of the biggest climaxes of the whole book because
Holden has now created a new persona of just being a teen, and not as a protector or a catcher, he
just is a teen who is growing up. Consequently, the book is starting to show Holden is showing a
conclusion to his immature

The Tax Rate Is Fair
Although many Americans, who do not know what a flat tax rate is, think that the current tax
rate is fair, let us look at two different situations and then reconsider. There is a man, John Waters,
who is the CEO of a large company and he makes an average of $570,000 annually. Making this
amount, John is forced to pay thirty five percent of his income to the government in taxes, leaving
him with $370,500 to support his family of five. With his remaining balance he would be eligible
to be placed in the taxbracket under the one he s in currently and reduce the percentage of his
income that he is forced to pay in taxes. On the other hand, you have another gentleman, Josh
Anderson, who is a common salesman for Coca Cola that makes $165,000 a... Show more content

In a flat rate system, all are equal in the eyes of wealth and what they owe the government meaning
that everyone no matter their occupation would pay the same percentage of their annual income in
taxes, creating a fair and just system. Therefore, there should be a change in the way that the
United States does taxes. It should be changed to a flat tax rate, with a negotiable percent set at the
beginning of each election, verses the current taxing tactic of the tax brackets.
Even though the flat tax rate has not existed in the United States in a while, it has made a
comeback, so to speak, over the last couple of years boosting the economies of many other
countries. The Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have had flat tax rates of twenty
four percent, twenty five percent, and thirty three percent in place since the early to mid 1990 s.
Then on January 1st, 2001 a thirteen percent flat tax rate on personal income was placed into
action in Russia, with Ukraine following their lead and imposing a thirteen percent tax rate on
personal income in 2003. Later in 2007, Slovakia introduced a seventeen percent tax rate for almost
all of their taxes including corporate tax, personal income tax, and VAT. There have been many
more countries that have followed in Russia s footsteps but the United States has yet to place it into
action. It has been

Effects Of Stress In France Comcomlecom
Stress in the Workplace My reaction to the situation with France Telecom is that it is a tragedy, no
organization should be ok with any of their employees being stressed to the point of wanting to kill
themselves. Which reminded me of our previous discussion about job satisfaction. I don t think any
job is worth the stressthat the employees of France Telecom had to endure, no matter how much
money the employees are making. I also thought, this is an important public/global health issue that
needs to be addressed.
What went wrong at France Telecom?
I believe there are more factors to consider than what was included in this case, but with the
information given, the internal factors were mainly poor management, such as the chairman Didier
Lombard. According to BBC news, Mr. Lombard announced plans to cut 22,000 jobs and move
another 14,000 workers, as France Telecom pushed for greater efficiency in the wake of
privatization, two years earlier. (N/A, 2016) This was the main contributor to the extremely high
levels of stress the employees were under. When deciding to make changes in the organization, the
company was using psychological pressure and pathogenic restructuring that caused the employees
immense stress and the feeling of insecurity in the face of globalization. They felt insignificant to
the company and the way they were pressured and treated created huge role conflict and overload.
I believe that it is the manager s job to make sure that the work environment is

In recent years tattooing and body piercing have become increasingly prevalent in popular culture.
These forms of body modification are no longer tools used by criminals and gang member,

society today. In fact many of these practices have been a positive trend in American culture, giving

Results suggested different levels of high risk behavior.
There are many reasons for individuals to acquire body modifications. One possible reason for body
modifications is to gain attention through displays of extravagance such as those that are found
in people with histrionic disorder (Durand amp; Barlow, 2000). A study by Burger amp; Finkel
(2002) investigated reasons why people adorn their bodies with tattoos and body piercing. They
also researched unmodified participants perceptions of body art. When the researchers polled
participant group as to their perceptions of body modifications, they found that many people
associate tattoos and body piercing with risky behaviors and view them as symbols of drug
abuse and violence (Burger amp; Finkel, 2002). They found that a main motivation for people to
modify their bodies is to increase self esteem. The people polled found body art as beautiful and
felt more beautiful when they acquired it. A study conducted at Denison University by Lyons and
Snyder (1996) described the reasons why college men and women had tattoos and body piercing.
The main reason cited by the men with body modifications for getting tattooed or pierced was to
identify themselves with a certain group. Women, however, rated their tattoos and piercing to make
themselves more individualized or sexually appealing. Other popular reasons for displaying body
modifications are to carry on cultural traditions and to increase

Why is United States Voter Turn out so Low
Question 4) What are some explanations for why voter turnout is so low in the U.S. compared to
other wealthy, literate and democratic countries?
INTRODUCTION Voter turnoutis the rate by which people vote in elections. The simplest way to
calculate a given election s turnout rate is to compare the actual number of voters with the voting
age population. Voter turnout in the United States is among the worlds lowest. (E.S. 371) The

United States voter turnout has been as compared to other industrialized nations. Our voter turnout

The Decline of Social Capital in the United States This factor is often overlooked as a reason
impacting voter turnout but it is important nonetheless. The term social capital has been subject to
various definitions over time. Basically, what this term refers to is the variety of social ties
between individuals, and the differing connections that arise between individuals as a result of
participating in various activities and organizations. It should be noted that membership in civic
organizations has steadily declined since the late 1950s. This decline in social capital means that
people participate in group activities less, trust others less, and are generally more cynical, just to
name a few of the symptoms.
Many scholars believe that falling civic organization membership and the general decline in our
Social Capital has negatively impacted voter turnout. (Kaufmann. 145) To summarize, people in
the United States are less involved with other groups and other people as a whole, so it is only
logical to feel they would be less involved or interest in our political and governmental future.
The weakening of our political parties Unlike parties in many other countries, political parties in
the U.S. are relatively weak in terms of their ability to mobilize voters to register and ultimately
vote on election day. This inability to mobilize voters has direct correlation to the fact that
membership and affiliation in political

Research Paper On Horse
The horse (Equus ferus caballus)[2][3] is one of two extant subspecies of Equus ferus. It is an
odd toed ungulate mammal belonging to the taxonomic family Equidae. The horse has evolved
over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi toed creature, Eohippus, into the large,
single toed animal of today. Humans began to domesticate horses around 4000 BC, and their
domestication is believed to have been widespread by 3000 BC. Horses in the subspecies caballus
are domesticated, although some domesticated populations live in the wild as feral horses. These
feral populations are not true wild horses, as this term is used to describe horses that have never
been domesticated, such as the endangered Przewalski s horse, a separate subspecies, and the only
remaining true wild horse. There is an extensive, specialized vocabulary used to describe equine
related concepts, covering everything from anatomy to life stages, size, colors, markings, breeds,
locomotion, and behavior.
Horses anatomy enables them to make use of speed to escape predators and they have a well
developed sense of balance and a strong fight or flight response. Related to this need to flee from
predators in the wild is an unusual trait: horses are able to sleep both standing up and lying down.

Compare And Contrast Antigone And Martin Luther King
Antigone and Martin Luther King Analysis
Antigone and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that breaking laws that are unjust can be a
good thing by bringing reform. Their nonviolent approach of civil disobedience till this day
leave an impact on how we go about social injustice. Through their actions and words, both
Antigone, and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that they are not afraid to die for their beliefs
and inspire us to take a passive approach towards the social injustices we are faced by in our
community. I sympathize more with Dr. Martin Luther King because I believe that he took a
more logical approach in stopping social injustice, as well as the fact that he is willing to put his
life on the line for a whole community of people, in contrast to Antigone who is willing to die for
solely her brother.
The first story I will be analyzing will be Antigone by Sophocles, and translated by Ruby Blondell.
After Antigone s brothers, Eteocles and Polynices battle for the throne of Thebes, they both die
and their uncle Creon becomes king. Creon sends orders that Eteocles be buried while Polynices,
the invader be left to rot. Additionally, Creon insist that whoever tries to bury Polynices should also
be put to death. Antigone buries Polynices anyways resulting in Creon sentencing her to death.
Instead, Antigone commits suicide causing the suicide of her fiancГ©, Creon s son, as well as
Creons wife.

Queen Elizabeth I And Anne Boleyn
I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king,
and of a king of England too. Queen Elizabeth I. Queen Elizabeth I was the daughter of king
Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. She would later become the 5th ruler in the Tudor dynasty. After
her half sister Mary s rule she was hailed a hero and known for saving England through one of its
toughest periods. Even more impressive she ruled alone with no king. Queen Elizabeth was one of
the best rulers in European history, she overcame a lifetime of difficulty and was well liked among
her people.
On September 7th 1533 Queen Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII welcomed their baby, the future
Queen Elizabeth I into the world, the king and queen were very disappointed that Elizabeth was
a girl. All the calibrations they had planned were almost immediately canceled. It was almost as
of they were shamed to have birthed a girl. Due to her father King Henry VIII and her mother
Queen Anne Boleyn s questionable marriage and the timing of her birth many questioned if she
was actually King Henry VIII s daughter. Even if she really was however many consider her to
be a child of adultery (Doran 8). The controversy of Elizabeth s legitimacy and Henry and Anne s
marriages put a strain on the family. Henry believed that his marriage to Katharine was invalid
from the beginning due to her previous marriage to Henry s elder brother Arthur. This convinced

The studies conclude that children of gay or lesbian parents are no different than their counterparts
raised by heterosexual parents. In Children of Lesbian and Gay Parents, a 1992 article in Child
Development, Charlotte Patterson states, Despite dire predictions about children based on well
known theories of psychosocial development, and despite the accumulation of a substantial body of
research investigating these issues, not a single study has found children of gay or lesbian parents
to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents.
(family.findlaw.com) Homosexuals have the ability to do anything a heterosexual can do. The AAP
cites evidence that children with parents who are homosexual can have the same advantages and
the same expectations for health, adjustment, and development as can children whose parents are
heterosexual. Note the key word: can. All the literature suggests that as long as a parent is
providing a loving, caring environment, the parent s sexual orientation doesn t make a difference in
the development of the child, says a co author of the AAP policy. Again, note the key phrase: as

contention that straight couples, on average, are more parentally fit.(slate.com). Homosexual is in

Proteus vulgaris #12
The importance of identification of a certain microorganisms can range between a life threatening
diseases to a creation of certain antibiotic. Understanding the principals of living microbes and
identifying my unknown bacteria through numerous biochemical and metabolism tests, with the
outmost confidence, Proteus vulgaris had the precise qualifications. The point of this report is to
further explore the identification of my unknown bacteria by revealing the results of the experiments
and comparing them to the other six known bacteria: Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus,
Staphylococcus epidermidis, Alcaligenes faecalis, Escherichia coli, and Proteus vulgaris that were

(Harley, 2011, pp. 102 103) Sucrose and lactose serve as a fermentable carbohydrate sources

produce a green metallic sheen on the agar due to the bacteria being a strong fermenter. My
unknown bacteria tested positive for growth, and agar was fermented reddish burgundy in color.
Subsequently, the unknown bacteria was later inoculated with a sterilized loop into the liquid
tryptic soy broth and incubated at an appropriate temperature. Its results were used for proper
identification of turbidity, spots and flocculation. (BDв„ў Tryptic Soy Broth (TSB), 2008) The
results of the unknown were cloudiness and some settlement on the bottom of the tryptic soy liquid.
The next step was conducted to find out if all the bacteria, as well as the unknown culture, required
oxygen for growth, varying from an aerobic environment, where bacteria needs oxygen to grow, to
facultative anaerobic environment, where bacteria will grow either with or without oxygen but
better in its presence. All the bacteria, along with the unknown, were separately inoculated and
tested. My unknown culture results tested positive for growth in facultative anaerobic environment.
In the next sequence of lab experiments, the results of unknown bacteria were determined by

Summary Of Independent Reading Reflection
Independent Reading Reflections #1 Quote: He had no idea what he was. Half of something, a
quarter of something else, brown skin and black hair like his dead mother, but with weird blue
eyes like his father. Response: This is important to the development of the story because it gives
us descriptions as to what he looks like, so we can better visualize the character as the plot
progresses. It also describes a little bit of what his father looks like and what his dead mother
used to look like. Questions: How did his mother die? How could his race effect the story? #2
Quote: Wherever the huge ships lay, scavenge gangs like nailer s swarmed like flies. Response:
This is important because it gives us (the reader) much needed background information to better
visualize and understand the story. Most likely, his job will play a key role in both the story as
it developes, and Nailer s (the main character) development as a person. Questions: Why are
there ships everywhere? When does this take place? (Future?) #3 Quote: If he d thought about it
too much, he didn t know why he saved his father either. It s not as if Richard Lopez has made
his life any easier. Response: I wonder if his father really does love him, but uses the booze to
hide behind his conflicted emotions about losing his wife. This is a similar relationship in the
Outsiders between Ponyboy, and his brother Darry. Ponyboy can t tell if Darry loves him or not,
because he is always hiding his emotions from Ponyboy, for he is so hurt from his mother s and
father s death. Maybe Nailer had a similar thought and that s why he chose to save his dad.
Questions: How will his dad change throughout the story if any? How will Nailer change
throughout the story? #4 Quote: They were all looking at the water now. Hungry. You think
they even know were here? Moon girl asked. Pima spat in the sand. Were just flies on garbage to
people like that. Response: This quote reminds me a lot of the book The Outsiders due to the
large social gap between poor people and rich people. In this quote, a Clipper Ship (expensive ship
for rich people) is sailing across the water, as the three main characters watch. One of the characters

sports stadium financing in the 1990s Essay
INTRODUCTION
The sentiment can be heard in any office break room, local tavern, or play field. The utter
discontent of the increasing cost of attending professional sporting events. Distain ranges from
players salaries to cost of parking and concessions. One local newscaster, channel 5 in Chicago,
Illinois April, 2003, reports that for a family of four to attend a major league baseball game on
opening day costs between $160 and $200 dollars.
The precursor to this cost was a decade of skyrocketing salaries and the trend to build huge public

Airport Vacation Essay
It was spring break 2016, my freshman year in high school. My mom had booked our flight to
Florida a few months before. I was more excited for this vacation than most others because my
parents told my younger sister and me we could each bring a friend. We chose to bring our
cousins Ellie and Adri. Neither of them had ever been on a plane before, in result the flight
down was quite interesting. At one point my cousin Adri said to me as she looked down out the
airplane window, Woooah! Look you can see the stars. I afterwards had to remind her that we
were flying through clouds, which mean the stars would be above us not below. Adri, those are
the city lights. I said back to her giggling. Over the rest of the plane ride we chatted and took a
couple short naps. When our plane finally landed in Florida, we exited in to the airport to go
retrieve our luggage. It was pleasant to step outside and be surrounded by warm air once again
after coming from the chill of Kansas earlier that morning. Of course the hotelwe were staying at
wasn t right beside the airport, we rented a cab to take us there. Our cab driver acted as if she
knew where she was going; although, we ended up getting lost for around fifteen minutes making
the ride an hour total. Once we finally arrived, we were eager to reach our room, put on our
swimsuits, and hit the beach! By the time we had settled in to the room and headed out to the
beach it was about 2:00. It had been a few years since I had visited the

Happiness Vs Happiness
Happiness is an emotion that many individuals try to search for throughout their lives, whereas
people view happiness as an essential factor in living a quality life. All over the world, there are
individuals who believe that they can find true joy through distancing oneself from social
interactions and by living life independently. Many believe that this is true because you are
allowed to make your own choices when living independently. When we are independent, we tend
to make choices that surround ourselves. In addition, the choices that we make as independent
individuals tends to be selfish and egocentric. To this, these choices are selfish because we are
independent and only worry about our own selves. Although living life independently may seem as
a road to happiness, it is not the way to live. An individual should live life compassionately and
surround themselves with people they cherish. To live life compassionately, we should be
understanding of other individual s and show empathy. Each and every individual experiences
different upbringings that make us unique. Often when we re uncompassionate, we tend to
misunderstand other individuals because we hold them up to our own moral standards. Whenever
you feel like criticizing anyone.... remember that all the people in this world haven t had the
advantages that you ve had (Fitzgerald 1). Without compassion, we are quick to assume and judge
other individuals, whereas we only think of ourselves. When being consumed with our own
thoughts and own well being, we become self centered individuals with our default settings on. In
This Is Water, Wallace defines these default settings as the, unconscious belief that I am the center
of the world and that my immediate needs... determine the world s priorities (Wallace 236).
Contrary to the thoughts of self centered individuals, we are not the center of the world. As
individuals that live in a world with an abundant amount of other individuals, it s essential to not
maintain an aura of selfishness.
While it is true that living compassionately isn t always easy, a compassionate lifestyle is still
essential to develop a kindhearted character. Those who oppose a life of compassion may argue
that to feel emotion and

The Bull Moose
Jake Rice
Professor Johnson
History 112
9 August 2015
The Bull Moose
America has seen the likes of some of the greatest, most dynamic, most influential leaders to walk
this earth, but one of the most electrifying of them all seized his opportunity and created a history
and a legacy like none other. A man so influential, in fact, that his niece s husband, another president
of the United States, looked up to him as his idol. An unfortunate turn of events left a window wide
open for this outstanding man, Theodore Roosevelt, to follow his destiny and leave a lasting impact
on America and its inhabitants. He was the 26th and youngest president of the United States,
forever changing what it meant to be president. Roosevelt was the first truly modern president of
the United States, expanding the power of presidency, using executive orders, and presidential
proclamations in ways that had never been done before. He ruled his nation with passion, just as
he had fought for it with passion. Rightfully so, Theodore Roosevelt serves as a celebrated icon in
the decorated history of the United States, and his legacy will forever be remembered by each and
every citizen of the United States of America.
Theodore Roosevelt Jr. was born on October 27, 1858, at 28 East 20th Street in New York City. He
was the second of four children, their parents being Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Mittie
Roosevelt. His father owned a plate glass importing business and was one of New York City s most

Compare And Contrast My Fair Lady And Pygmalion
Pygmalion, a play written by George Bernard Shaw, first premiered on the 16th of October, 1923,
and was instantly met with love by both its actors and its audiences. Since its release, the story has
been made into several different adaptations, most notable of which being the 1964 musical film by
the title of My Fair Lady. This film, while called a musical, features quite an even mix of regular
dialogue and singing from the characters, making for an overall interesting experience. As
popular and beloved as it may be, no movie is exempt from the flaw of in some way or another
straying from its original ideas. My Fair Lady is no exception. Although there are moments the
characters seem to speak word for word from the early nineteen hundreds play, there are
definitely scenes and actions that must have been added to either move the story along quicker
or even sheerly add more interest to the plot. Although nothing extreme, the differences are
certainly noticeable. While it may not be something that drastically altered how the storyline
unfolded, the musical definitely showed more of Eliza Doolittle s life before Professor Higgins
took her on as his student. Her song Wouldn t It Be Loverly showed her dreaming of a better life
while dancing and having a good time with the people around her. She is depicted as knowing
many of them and they all treat her as a friend. In the original play, Eliza is made out to be more
of a lonely soul, scraping along with her flower business and

Outsourcing and Hotels
Introduction
What is Outsourcing?
Outsourcing can be defined as a business relationship in which two or more companies work
together to achieve a collective advantage. Rugman et al (2003)
If you look back ten fifteen years ago outsourcing in hotels was not a popular concept but more
recently with the downturn in the economy in the nineteen nineties more and more hotels are
turning to outsourcing to help increase their revenues and maximize their profit potential. The use
of outsourcing enables firms to maximize their resources and to reinforce their competitive
advantage. One of the most popular areas for outsourcing in hotels would have to be the Food and
Beverage sector. The decision to outsource by many hotels has been ... Show more content on

Current and new services

Every hotel and property will have many different valid reasons on whether to outsource or not to

Specialist services where specialised personnel or skills are required
Functions that would have fast changing IT requirements
Operations where recruitment of employees and training of employees is of a high cost to the hotel
Operations that are labour intensive
The operations which are the commonplace

Arab and Muslims and Stereotypical labels in Movies
Movies are something that people of all color, religion and race watch. Directors of movies have
a big influence in the way they portray certain kind of people in films. It is obvious that these
people have a motive in bringing down a certain race or religion from the many accounts we see.
Arab and Muslims have been given stereotypical labels and have been looked upon as the monster
for many years even before the September 11th attacks. Filmafter film you see many incidents
were there is someone doing a terrorist act and people look at these and start to believe this is
how things actually are. The power the media has is unbelievable and over they years you can see
they have used there power to increase stereotypes of Arab Americans. Arabs are represented in
Hollywood as the villain, before and after 9/11 and this has contributed to the to the outlook of
Arabs and Muslims in the public sphere.
From the beginning of film making Arabs and Muslims were grouped as one by Hollywood.
This is one of first stereotypes they created. Only one fifth of Arabs in the world are Muslim,
and there are more then 20 million Christian Arabs in the world. It is obvious that Hollywood
has a huge impact on many people. In 2002 alone the total box office sales was more then 9 billion
dollars according to the U.S census. People are watching and people are becoming more and more
brainwashed. Plato once said, The people who are telling the story also rule society . Media in all

Comparison Of Penelope In The Odyssey, Penelope, And...
by Homer ,Odysseus, the ruler of Ithaca left behind his wife and son in order to fight in the Trojan
war. During his twenty year long adventure of returning home he encountered many obstacles
which then led to him being unfaithful to his wife, Penelope. Penelope on the other hand ,despite
being surrounded by suitors remained faithful to her husband. Penelope is the better spouse in the
relationship as she uses her devotion and cleverness to fend off suitors and wait for Odysseusreturn.
Penelope is devoted to her husband because she did not have an affair like Odysseus. She
certainly must have warmed her husband s heart by doing this and by singing the praises of her
lost Odysseus, ( p. 646 2nd paragraph). Homer uses words that Penelope s feelings about the loss
of Odysseus, therefore proving her devotion to Odysseus. Odysseus on the other hand was carried
away by lust and he forgot about his own family. After many seasons of feasting and other
pleasure, Odysseus and his men beg Circe to help them return home, (p. 675). It was only after
odysseus s men begged him to leave that he gave going home another thought. the fact that
odysseus completely forgot about his home and family shows that he isn t very devoted to them.
Penelope s sly clever side is revealed with her astuteness in delaying tactics. As she plans ways to
get rid of the suitors, the clever notion of marrying again when she completes a shroud that she
plans to never complete buys her time: So every day wove on the great loom, but every night by
torchlight I unwove (pg. 697) She plans to weave a shroud during the day and then unweaves it
each night. This simple trick has bought her three years. Furthermore, she also holds an archery
contest in which the suitors will have to string Odysseus s bow and shoot through twelve axes:
You found no justification for yourselves none except your lust to marry me. Stand up then: we
now declare a contest for that prize (pg. 699). Penelope s decision to marry whomever wins the
archery contest results from her awareness that only her husband can win it. Penelope never refuses
to marry outright. Instead, she puts off her decision and leads them on with promises that she will
choose a new

Argumentative Essay On Teen Abortion
Briana Nelson
Hannah Homes
Eng.1101
10 December 2017
Teen Abortions aren t Always a Bad Thing
Imagine it is late at night, and you are walking home from a friend s house. It s very dark and
you can t really see what s going on until all of a sudden, this random man grabs you and throws
you into the back of his car. That same night this man rapes and sexually abuses you. Later on, you
find out that you are pregnant by this man and you don t want to keep it, but everyone around you
is telling you that you shouldn t get an abortion because you would then be labeled as killing your
child. Now you are stuck debating whether or not you want to give birth to a baby that wouldn t
be here if you weren t raped that night you were walking home from your friend s house. One of
the biggest dilemmas in today s time is whether or not teen abortions should be legal. Every year,
more than 50% of babies that are conceived, come into the world unwanted (Guttmacher). Whether
it is from the mother being raped, abused, not wanting their parents to find out, not wanting
everyone to know that they had sex, or even just the thought of the fact that she is a child raising a
child. Therefore, all teens should be allowed to have an abortion for many different reasons without
being told they are murdering their child.
Abortions became a political debate after the court case of Roe v Wade legalized abortions in 1973.
In the 1973 case of Roe v. Wade, the U.S Supreme court ruled that the woman has

How Did Gandhi Impact Society

Gandhi s Impact
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who lead the non violence movement in South Africa and India
from 1969 to 1948, fought against racial prejudice, and helped India gain independence from the
British. Gandhi went to India and saw how unfairly people were being treated and at the time, India
was under Great Britain s rule, causing exploitation and deprivation of Indians. Gandhi wanted to
change this, and began his non violent changes that were extraordinary but not in the long run since
many problems emerged after India won independence from Britain. Consequently, Gandhi s
accomplishments, to a certain degree, were extraordinary given the situation between Britain and
India.

India was the crown jewel of Britain and unlike most of Britain s territories, India had a big
population and an abundance of natural resources. The British raj, meaning the rule by the British
crown in the Indian subcontinent, failed to give the Raj Indians the freedom to rule India, breaking
their promise. The British also imposed taxes on the Indians without considering the poor people of
India. These problems lead to the Indian mutiny and allowed for Gandhi to step up and start his
movement. Considering his context, Gandhi s achievements were extraordinary to a certain degree.
To begin, Gandhi first introduced his idea of Satyagraha, meaning non violent resistance or civil
resistance. Using this philosophy, Gandhi led a non violence movement to gain independence from
the british, commonly known as the non cooperation movement. At the time, his movement was
remarkable and got a lot of attention on a national level. Although this movement was extraordinary,
the movement failed because individuals who took things into their own hands set fire to a police
station and killing 23 police officials. As a result, Gandhi ended the non cooperation movement.

  • 2. Ancient Year Vs Day Rule Essay The Ancient Year and A Day Rule The year and a day rule is a common law rule. In a time when medical miracles and forensics were either extremely slow or unheard of, time was a more dictating factor in the enforcement of laws and crimes committed.According to Sir William Blackstone, an English jurist, judge, and politician of the 18th century, a death upgrade to murder requires that the death occur within one year and a day of the initial injury. When figuring the qualifications tallying begans on the day of infliction.. The belief that this common law has been laid to rest and unused is incorrect. The idea that based on modern science and the ability to easier prove cause of death and then build the appropriate case has led to the widespread dismissal of the year and a day rule. Referring to sections 9 and 10 of Article I, many appeals based on this rule have been denied because according to the Article, the U.S Constitution forbids Congress and all states from enacting ex post facto laws defined as Done or made after the fact; having retroactive force or effect , (Blacks Law pg. 518). The following two cases challenge retroactive application in a more current perspective. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A defendant can possess mens rea and still try to do the right thing. In the case of abuse, some parents and adult victims still try to seek medical attention for the injured party, while others flee or attempt to conceal the act. Where there is theft, there are defendants who attempt to return the merchandise, sometimes successful in avoiding prosecution and sometimes not, and so on. The presence of mens rea is not the sole guarantee of a conviction, however it is a very important part, and can determine case value almost immediately. It can also, as stated previously, give insight to a defense as well as project the application of sentencing guidelines and plea agreements to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. State Farm Advertising Analysis Today, advertising is as much a part of our lives as breathing. Whether we re driving, listening to the radio, or watching T.V we are constantly being bombarded by thousands of companies telling us why we should buy their products or services. Some advertisements prove to be effective, while others can be easily dismissed. One very popular industry in advertisement is auto insurance. Every year companies like Geico, State Farm, and All State invest millions of dollars, hoping to convince audiences that their service is better than their competitors. Because auto insurance is a requirement for every single individual who owns a vehicle it is a very competitive market where various ad campaigns can be found. State Farm stands out amongst... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As in the previous example, the commercial emphasizes State Farm s reliability. This time however, there is no desperation because the young woman is so certain that her agent will get things resolved. Just like the previous commercial, the ad uses pathos to convince their audience, assuring them that State Farm will allow them to be stress free. The granting of the friends wishes for the perfect man helps to reinforce the aspect of great service because it represents the company s ability to go above and beyond for their customers. Again, pathos is presented through humor, making the ad memorable and reinforcing the company s point: when you have State Farm there is no need for desperation because they have you covered. Ethos is also once again reinforced through the agent s professional attire, creating an ethical image for the company. The next memorable ad in the campaign takes a different twist, because rather than promoting auto insurance, it promotes home insurance. In this scenario, a group of young men are sitting at home when a baseball suddenly breaks through the homeowner s window. As his friends begin to freak out, the homeowner maintains the same relaxed attitude as the female from the previous example and recites the magic jingle. Seeing his friends in shock as an agent magically appears he encourages them to recite the jingle and make a request, which they follow by asking for a sandwich, a pretty girl, and a hot ... • 4. Process Of Negotiation Essay Negotiation is a fundamental process used in resolving conflicts, making business deals, and in managing working relationships with others. Negotiations occur for two reasons: (1) to resolve a problem or dispute between parties, or (2) to create something new that neither party could do on its own. Negotiating is a critical, every day skill that is essential anytime it is necessary to create short term or long lasting agreements. For example: In 1996, Juwan Howard signed a contract worth over $100 million with the Miami Heatand nearly became the highest paid NBA player during the 96 97 NBA season. However, his contract was voided by the NBA citing that the Heat exceeded its salary cap. On August 5, 1996 Howard returned to the folds... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was successful and over the next two season earned respect and his keep. As the next year approached, as a free agent, he was eligible to move and work to gain more respect and power through the process of being a free agent. The Miami Heat and President Pat Riley were looking to get a stab at getting him in Miami. Juwan s Agent David Falk s Job was to get the most for his client in the end no matter where he played. The Bullets had first crack at offers, ranging in the high 8 figures and actuals would change as the bidding continued, but the Bullets were not the only ones looking to Howard. The Miami Heat was also interested and would come into the play with their own offers to be considered by Howard. During these proceedings, Alonzo Mourning and many others were working their own deals with the Heat as well as the Bullets. During this time Pat Riley indicated to Mourning that he would eventually be the highest player in Miami. This statement would result in a complete unraveling of the most promised line up of players for this NBA team and a potential of huge success. As the bidding war continued, Juwan Howard would eventually sign on with the Heat for over 100 million over seven years and various other perks. Mourning on a July 16th interview indicated his deal at over 100 Million. This caused NBA Officials to investigate over a potential violation of salary cap because of the ... This paper studies predicament of Muslim wives in society of Pakistan through institution of marriage as depicted in Tehmina Durrani s My Feudal Lord, an autobiographical narrative. The publication of My Feudal Lord received many awards and made it exceptional and extraordinary literary work, which surfaces the issues of Muslim women of Pakistan, and is still relevant as it contributes to the feminist cause. The book is a painful account of a womans traumatic marriage in Pakistan, who suffers in silence for thirteen years and then decides to come out of the life of abuse and humiliation. It also highlights the hidden agency of a woman that has the potential to expose and challenge a male dominated society. Durrani s courage, resistance and mighty pen become agents for change. These agents, along with exposition of assumed authority of debauchery and superiority of male culture assist her in dismantling established societal pattern of marriage. The process of evolution encourages her to reflect on the woes of other women in Pakistani society and the ways to counter violence, inequality and isolation in feudal trap. In addition, factors which can contribute to a failed organization change initiative are discussed. • 7. Cinema In The Philippine Cinema The Philippine cinema is a roller coaster ride of different emotions and genres that serves the Filipino people entertainment and enjoyment. Over the past century or so, we ve been filled up with a lot different stories of characters that are relatable to the people. From the adventures of Fernando Poe Jr. s Ang Panday to the comedic acts of Babalu and Dolphy, we can say that the Philippine filmindustry is very reputable and prestigious just like those of in the other countries. In today s generation, personally, I think people are getting sick of movies that depict mistresses and anything about them. I also think that one of the genres that are on the rise is the Independent films. Erik Matti s Indie film, Honor Thy Father, brings a very different tone and story to the plate. The movie starts off with Edgar (John Lloyd Cruz) picking up his daughter from school. The scene shifts to their house where Kaye (Meryll Soriano), Edgar s wife, is persuading a group of friends to invest in her father s business where everyone gets significantly rich. Edgar sits from behind, listening to how people believe in his wife s words. The next scene shows the essential part of the story because the movie uses religion as a device to show the irony of being projected as pure and wholesome can hide the evilness and cruelty of a person. Edgar s family is part of this religious organization called the Church of Yeshua but Edgar is seen staring at the money being donated by the people and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scuba divers get to explore new, exciting, and breathtaking regions in the ocean that many people never get to experience in their whole lives. Scuba divers hold important roles in society because of the discoveries they make on a daily basis. They provide much needed research that is important in the scientific community regarding newly discovered marine species. Scuba divers get the opportunity to explore exceptionally beautiful ocean features that include shipwrecks, coral reefs, and other stunning tropical ocean regions. As time progressed, the equipment that was used for scuba diving began to be perfected, and many workout clubs began featuring classes to train people how to dive (Ed LaRochelle, 2009). This allowed scuba diving to become a leisure activity that anyone could engage in (Ed LaRochelle, 2009). Jacques Cousteau was a famous scuba diver who made many discoveries, including many new innovative tools and equipment such as the aquatic lung (Ryan Spence, 2010). He also produced over 100 television episodes discussing the different aspects of scuba diving along with his new inventions (Ryan Spence, 2010). Sylvia Earle was another recognizable person in the field of scuba diving (Sue Vander Hook, 2001). She was a famous figure because she was the first person ever to dive to two hundred and fifty feet breathing compressed air in a Jim Suit, and she broke many records for deepest dives in submersibles (Sue Vander Hook, 2001). Thirdly, Augustus Siebe created a diving suit that included a copper helmet and rubber material for a more flexible suit (John Bantin, 2007). This invention by Siebe allowed divers to dive to deeper depths into the ocean and explore more wrecks and ocean features (John Bantin, 2007). • 10. Propaganda Techniques In Animal Farm The Use of Propaganda Techniques in Animal Farm Oppressive dictators will go to extraordinary extremes and use tyrannical techniques to manipulate their citizens. Animal Farm, a satirical novel written by George Orwell in 1944 45, offers powerful political commentary on totalitarian regimes and the extent that leaders will go to in order to control their subjects and maintain political power. Napoleon is a pig on the farm that supports the rebellion against a human named Mr. Jones, embraces the philosophy of Animalism, ascends to power, and ultimately rules ruthlessly, evolving into a corrupt and terrorizing character. In Animal Farm, Napoleon utilizes propaganda devices such as the big lie, scapegoating, and manipulation of language to control the other animals on the farm. The big lie, a ploy that offers a misrepresentation or distortion of facts, is used by Napoleon in order to intentionally deceive the inhabitants of Animal Farm. • 11. Analysis Of 100 Faces Of Death Death is an inevitable and uncontrollable part of life that can be hard to accept. It can take a lot of time to fully heal from the death of a loved one, but over time, it is normal to accept the full reality of that loss (Good Grief: Healing from the Pain of Loss). In 100 Faces of Death , T.C. Boyle sets up the idea that deathis unable to be escaped and can happen unexpectedly by telling the stories of all the deaths that the main character has experienced. Boyle describes the main character s feelings towards each of deaths to show the impact they have on his life. The main character has not fully healed from the deaths that he has experienced, which negatively affects his mental health and causes him to lose touch with reality. Readers often raise the question, What could have been done to prevent him from ever feeling this way towards death? His attitude towards death most likely formed because of his response to death and never reaching acceptance in the grieving process. People respond to death in many different ways depending on personality, gender, circumstances of the loss, and support from others (Grief and Loss). Some people may have a prolonged and intense reaction towards death while other people may heal a lot quicker (Wortman and Boerner). It is normal to experience different emotions after a death such as, anger, resentment, guilt, fear, or loneliness (Brand, Fox, and Bosch). • 13. Minority Representation Of Minority Minorities The insufficiency in the representation of minorities in higher education administration and tenured faculty remained consistently problematic in spite of the existing and growing awareness within the higher education community (Nye Maxey, 1994). According to McKenney and Cejda (2000), minority representation in the American higher educationsystem has generally been a major issue for the academic community as a whole. Racial and ethnic diversity has become increasingly more challenging throughout colleges and universities across the United States. Little progress has been made, for instance, for minority faculty members to move up through the leadership ranks. There are large disparities for minority faculty members when data and demographic trends in faculty and institutional leadership are examined. Higher education institutions, argued Gibson Benninger (1995), must increase their efforts in the appointment of women and minorities because these two groups have been severely underrepresented in leadership positions. Even this paper has been pushed off until late hours of the night. It has been a problem for a long time, but I have been reluctant to do anything about it. In high school it is easy to procrastinate because there will always be people to sympathise with you. Getting on a different sleep schedule is the first thing I am attempting to become less of a procrastinator. Recently, IOS implemented a new app to the iphone to help people get to sleep earlier: I have been using this app to my advantage. There are various ways I have started to prepare for college and become less lazy. I am going to start studying some of my tougher subjects even if I do not have a test or quiz the next day. This is a very easy task because it only takes 30 minutes out of my day, but it is a good habit to get into. A bad habit I need to get out of is taking naps in the middle of my day whether it be after school or at five o clock on a weekend. Consequently these naps make me feel awful and unproductive after and cause me to go to sleep later than I had intended that night. Also forcing me to take another nap the next day in an on going cycle. Literary And Cinematic Works Of `` Maus `` In the decades following the end of World War II there have been many literary and cinematic works portraying what life was like during the Holocaust. Many of these have come from survivors themselves but never the less even some of the most well known works have come from second generation Holocaust victims or rather children whose parents were a part of it. One of the most renowned pieces is Art Spiegelman s non fiction graphic novel Maus. Originally published in 1980, it details the experiences of both Art as the son of a Holocaust survivor and his father Vladek as an actual eyewitness. The novel describes their individual struggles as well as the toll that has been taken on their relationship as a result of past events. Another famous and successful work by the son of a Holocaust victim is Roberto Benigni s 1997 triple academy award winning Italian comedy drama Life Is Beautiful . • 19. Religious Beliefs And The Role Of Dress In The Religious... Religious ideologies regarding dress are based on religious organizations individual dogmas, who believe that your outwardly appearance should reflect your inner beliefs. Similarly, adhering to a strict code of dress, that symbolizes its group s traditions and customs, also helps in controlling the body s sexuality. Hunt Hurst and Miller Spillman (2012) stated that being well dressed (modestly) is a religious duty and not a personal preference (p. 266). Dress in a matter of speaking is an outwardly symbol of religious identification and showing ones connectedness to their religious organization. Arthur (n.d.) believes a group identity is projected through dress because people use self presentation and self promotion to visually present identity that is congruent with their belief systems (Religionand Dress, para. 1). Since each religious organization perceives the role of dress, as it pertains to the expression of identity, differently one must also understand the basis of said religious organizations beliefs in order to comprehend how their beliefs mirror the role of dress. Islamis a monotheistic faith, one that believes in a single God, emphasizes submission to God or Allah, as well as the group over the individual. The Qur an, the literal word of God, lays out the role of dress and its meaning for both men and women (Hunt Hurst Miller Spillman, 2012; Islam, 2017). Hear the sound of the seagulls above your head, and waves crashing. Then as you open you eyes, you see homes on the precipice of a ledge, about to tip over. A wave crashes against the cliff you stand on, and a massive chunk falls into the foaming sea below! This just one of the horrid effects of coastal erosion . Coastal erosion is a very large problem on the California coast, and if nothing is done to stop it, in as little as 50 years, California will have little to no beaches.[1] Coastal erosion happens when waves strike a cliff so many times, that the cliff slowly is worn down. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most common of these re sea walls. They are as their name suggests, a wall of cement separating the beach from the land behind it. These are not very good because although they prevent the erosion of the land behind it, they cause the sand in front of the wall to disappear quicker. The waves are forced back on themselves and collect more debris and sand than they usually would. These sea walls also create even more erosion where the sea wall ends, because of the way the waves travel. Other cities are transporting sand in from around the country, but only to need more within a few years. The next form of erosion prevention is called at groyne. Groynes are hard structures perpendicular to the beach and are often used in groups. They can be either above water, or below water, depending on the slope of the beach. Groynes work better than seawalls at protecting beaches, but still don t prevent beach erosion. Surprisingly, a very good way to prevent beach erosion is to plant more plants on the dunes. The plants help hold the sand and collect sand from the waves. There are a few ways the everyday citizen can help prevent coastal erosion. The simplest way is to reduce your carbon footprint. By reducing your carbon footprint less greenhouse gasses are produced, so sea level rise is slowed. Some way to reduce your carbon footprint are to, drive less, turn off lights, recycle, use less water, and eat locally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Treaty of Versailles Resulted in Another Huge War The treaty of Versailles, written in Paris Peace Conference by four allied nations, contributed to the culmination of World War I between Germany and those four nations, which were United States, France, Great Britain and Italy. Even though the purpose of the treaty was to prevent further conflict and war, it, in fact, failed to treat all nations justifiably, including the losers of the war (Germany), because it mandated Germany to solely compensate for the loss and damages caused by the war. The restrictions treated Germany like a colony and eventually led to the decrease of German military forces, financial bankruptcy caused by excessive reparation and the rise of Nazis which triggered World War II. First of all, according to the section five of Article 159 213 of the treaty, Germany was limited to carry or maintain certain number of troops which led to significant decrease in total military forces. The treaty forced Germany to keep navy, army and air force as small as possible (1). Additionally, the number of army was diminished to 100,000 troops with no armored vehicles and they were limited to six battleships, six light cruisers, twelve destroyers, twelve torpedo and no submarines (1). What is worse is the fact that Germany was not able to defend itself anymore as it had to get rid of bunkers, defense systems and mines from rivers, seas and harbors (1) and was prohibited to possess poison gas, armed aircraft, tanks, blockades on ships and armored cars (2). ... In a flat rate system, all are equal in the eyes of wealth and what they owe the government meaning that everyone no matter their occupation would pay the same percentage of their annual income in taxes, creating a fair and just system. Therefore, there should be a change in the way that the United States does taxes. It should be changed to a flat tax rate, with a negotiable percent set at the beginning of each election, verses the current taxing tactic of the tax brackets. Even though the flat tax rate has not existed in the United States in a while, it has made a comeback, so to speak, over the last couple of years boosting the economies of many other countries. I don t think any job is worth the stressthat the employees of France Telecom had to endure, no matter how much money the employees are making. I also thought, this is an important public/global health issue that needs to be addressed. What went wrong at France Telecom? According to BBC news, Mr. Lombard announced plans to cut 22,000 jobs and move another 14,000 workers, as France Telecom pushed for greater efficiency in the wake of privatization, two years earlier. (N/A, 2016) This was the main contributor to the extremely high levels of stress the employees were under. When deciding to make changes in the organization, the company was using psychological pressure and pathogenic restructuring that caused the employees immense stress and the feeling of insecurity in the face of globalization. One possible reason for body modifications is to gain attention through displays of extravagance such as those that are found in people with histrionic disorder (Durand amp; Barlow, 2000). A study by Burger amp; Finkel (2002) investigated reasons why people adorn their bodies with tattoos and body piercing. They also researched unmodified participants perceptions of body art. When the researchers polled participant group as to their perceptions of body modifications, they found that many people associate tattoos and body piercing with risky behaviors and view them as symbols of drug abuse and violence (Burger amp; Finkel, 2002). They found that a main motivation for people to modify their bodies is to increase self esteem. The people polled found body art as beautiful and felt more beautiful when they acquired it. The Decline of Social Capital in the United States This factor is often overlooked as a reason impacting voter turnout but it is important nonetheless. The term social capital has been subject to various definitions over time. Basically, what this term refers to is the variety of social ties between individuals, and the differing connections that arise between individuals as a result of participating in various activities and organizations. It should be noted that membership in civic organizations has steadily declined since the late 1950s. This decline in social capital means that people participate in group activities less, trust others less, and are generally more cynical, just to name a few of the symptoms. Many scholars believe that falling civic organization membership and the general decline in our Social Capital has negatively impacted voter turnout. (Kaufmann. 145) To summarize, people in the United States are less involved with other groups and other people as a whole, so it is only logical to feel they would be less involved or interest in our political and governmental future. Compare And Contrast Antigone And Martin Luther King Antigone and Martin Luther King Analysis Antigone and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that breaking laws that are unjust can be a good thing by bringing reform. Their nonviolent approach of civil disobedience till this day leave an impact on how we go about social injustice. Through their actions and words, both Antigone, and Dr. Martin Luther king demonstrate that they are not afraid to die for their beliefs and inspire us to take a passive approach towards the social injustices we are faced by in our community. I sympathize more with Dr. Martin Luther King because I believe that he took a more logical approach in stopping social injustice, as well as the fact that he is willing to put his life on the line for a whole community of people, in contrast to Antigone who is willing to die for solely her brother. The first story I will be analyzing will be Antigone by Sophocles, and translated by Ruby Blondell. After Antigone s brothers, Eteocles and Polynices battle for the throne of Thebes, they both die and their uncle Creon becomes king. Creon sends orders that Eteocles be buried while Polynices, the invader be left to rot. Additionally, Creon insist that whoever tries to bury Polynices should also be put to death. Antigone buries Polynices anyways resulting in Creon sentencing her to death. Instead, Antigone commits suicide causing the suicide of her fiancГ©, Creon s son, as well as Creons wife. Due to her father King Henry VIII and her mother Queen Anne Boleyn s questionable marriage and the timing of her birth many questioned if she was actually King Henry VIII s daughter. Even if she really was however many consider her to be a child of adultery (Doran 8). The controversy of Elizabeth s legitimacy and Henry and Anne s marriages put a strain on the family. • 45. Happiness Vs Happiness Happiness is an emotion that many individuals try to search for throughout their lives, whereas people view happiness as an essential factor in living a quality life. All over the world, there are individuals who believe that they can find true joy through distancing oneself from social interactions and by living life independently. Many believe that this is true because you are allowed to make your own choices when living independently. When we are independent, we tend to make choices that surround ourselves. In addition, the choices that we make as independent individuals tends to be selfish and egocentric. To this, these choices are selfish because we are independent and only worry about our own selves. Although living life independently may seem as a road to happiness, it is not the way to live. An individual should live life compassionately and surround themselves with people they cherish. To live life compassionately, we should be understanding of other individual s and show empathy. Each and every individual experiences different upbringings that make us unique. Often when we re uncompassionate, we tend to misunderstand other individuals because we hold them up to our own moral standards. Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone.... remember that all the people in this world haven t had the advantages that you ve had (Fitzgerald 1). Without compassion, we are quick to assume and judge other individuals, whereas we only think of ourselves. When being consumed with our own thoughts and own well being, we become self centered individuals with our default settings on. In This Is Water, Wallace defines these default settings as the, unconscious belief that I am the center of the world and that my immediate needs... determine the world s priorities (Wallace 236). Contrary to the thoughts of self centered individuals, we are not the center of the world. As individuals that live in a world with an abundant amount of other individuals, it s essential to not maintain an aura of selfishness. While it is true that living compassionately isn t always easy, a compassionate lifestyle is still essential to develop a kindhearted character.
