The Primary Functions Of Commercial Banks
Commercial banks are institutions that conduct business for profit motive by
accepting public deposits for various investment purposes.
The functions of commercial banks are broadly classified into primary functions and
secondary functions as discussed below:
1.1.6.1Primary Functions
The primary functions of commercial banks include the following:
(i) Accepting Deposits
Implies that commercial banks are mainly dependent on public deposits.
There are two types of deposits:
(1) Demand Deposits
Refer to those kind of deposits that can be easily withdrawn by individuals without
any prior notice to the bank. In other words, the owners of these deposits are allowed
to withdraw money anytime by simply writing a cheque. These deposits are the part

Banks pay higher interest on time deposits. These deposits can be withdrawn only
after a specific time period is completed by providing a written notice to the bank.
Based on this, commercial banks offer individuals the following accounts for
depositing their money:
a.Current accounts those accounts that are mainly meant for businesses and other
public and private organisations. Current accounts are cheque operated accounts that
are not for savings purposes as no interest is paid on deposits in these accounts.
b.Savings accounts refer to accounts that promote savings among individuals while
allowing them to use their funds when required. Apart from this, individuals get
interests on deposits in savings accounts.
c.Fixed deposit accounts refer to accounts in which deposits are made for a fixed
period. The deposits in these accounts can be withdrawn before the expiry of the
period, only at the cost of early withdrawal charges. The profits are higher, if the
period of deposits is longer.
(ii) Advancing Loans
Refers to one of the important functions of commercial banks. The public deposits
are used by commercial banks for the purpose of granting loans to individuals and
businesses. Commercial banks grant loans in the form of overdraft, cash credit, and
discounting bills of
Worm Lab Report
Title: The Effect of Nicotine on the Heart Rate of the Lumbriculus Variegatus
Introduction:
Background This lab is being done to demonstrate the effects of stimulants on the
circulatory system of blackworms. In this lab, the stimulant we have chosen to use is
Nicotine. A stimulant is an agent that causes increased activity, especially in the
nervous or cardiovascular systems. In this lab, we will put blackworms into the
Nicotine to look at the differences in pulse rates when compared to a control. The
proper name for blackworms is Lumbriculus Variegatus, they are freshwater worms
most commonly found in North America and Europe. The blood in blackworms
circulates from the dorsal blood vessel toward the head through a series of ... Show

Mean 15.4, Median 15
Table 1 shows the heart rates of worms in the control, their average heart rate is at
10.7 pulse/min. Table 2 shows the worms in the 2.5mL of Nicotine which proved to
be too strong. Table 3 shows the heart rates of worms in the diluted solution of
2.5mL Nicotine and 1mL H2O. Table 3 shows that the heart rate of worms is faster in
the nicotine with the average pulse rate at 15.5 pulse/min.
This table shows the data for the 15 control worms in water and then the same 15
in Nicotine. There are not 15 worms in the nicotine solution because our first
solution was too strong and 6 of the worms died. The solution being used in this
graph is 2.5 mL of Nicotine and 1 mL H20. This graph shows that the pulse rates of
worms in Nicotine tend to be higher than that of the worms in water. This data proves
the idea that stimulants raise heart rate.

Hatred In Lloyd Jones s Mister Pip
What s worse than being hated is being ignored, because it s like you don t exist at
all and your presence is nothing Unknown. Many people believe that being
outright disliked is the worst thing someone could do to another person. However,
being disregarded or ignored can have a much larger and greater effect on one s
self esteem and personal life. Many people suffer from exclusion everywhere
around the world in schools and workplaces. Being ignored and negatively
acknowledged can both be detrimental to one s self esteem and their overall
productivity in offices and schools. I believe that being ignored has a much greater
effect on one s personal well being and attitude towards life than outright dislike. In
the novel Mister Pip, by Lloyd... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different unique relationships but the most notable are his portrayal
of characters that have outright dislike of each other. Jones portrays negative
acknowledgement between characters such as Matilda s mom, Dolores, and Mr.
Watts. He is thoroughly disliked by Dolores because he is for one, white and second,
does not believe in God or the Devil. Nonetheless, despite the hate, Mr. Watts doesn t
seem to mind one bit about this and carries on through life without feeling ashamed or
distraught. He takes it upon himself to educate the children of the village and to
open their minds to the world around them. Ultimately, Dolores dedication to the
Bible is what draws the line between Mr. Watts and her. The quotes: At the end of
the story, my mum looked across to Mr. Watts, and the two of them held each other
s eye until they remembered us and When she showed up in class the next morning
it was obvious she hadn t come to speak to us. She had come to pick a fight with
Mr. Watts . These two quotes exemplifies the fact that tension has been created
between the two individuals as a result of their own personal beliefs. Dolores
explicitly expresses hatred and dislike towards Mr. Watts and does not want him to
educate her girl Matilda. Although Mr. Watts was negatively acknowledged by
Dolores, he does not falter off of his life path and continues to educate and be kind
to all the people around him.Sadly, by the end of the book, he pays the ultimate
price, sacrificing himself for the village that never really accepted his presence.
Evidently, through this example, Lloyd Jones shows that dislike and negative
acknowledgement is not nearly as severe as if one was being disregarded or
Spaying And Neutering Essay
The two sources I used in the last research summary were scientific resources because
my topic has a scientific background. Both of them provided information on the
history of the topic and went into great detail on facts about spaying and neutering.
Both are the articles I used had similar information pertaining to the subject of
spaying and neutering. In the first one, The History of Spaying and Neutering
Animals it provided a few statistics about the overpopulation of pets, such as there
were 300,000 homeless pets. In the other article, Pediatric Spay/Neuter, it specifically
talked about spaying and neutering animals while they re extremely young. Although
both of the articles were on the same topic, they shed light on spaying and neutering
as a whole with specific topics in between. Now that I researched the history of
spaying and neutering, there are many pros and cons that have been recognized by
many.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both of the articles, Spaying Your Female DogPros and Cons and Neutering Your
Male Dog Pros and Cons, it mentions that one major disadvantage for spaying and
neutering is that it increases the risk of hemangiosarcoma, which is a deadly form
of cancer. This type of cancer attacks the heart and spleen in the animal s body. In
other words, while some types of cancer are prevented, some may come up. Also, it
can cause hypothyroidism because it affects the endocrine system. Although it can
be treated by medication, it still stressful for the dog and owner. Of course all
surgeries are potentially dangerous and complications can pop up at any time. There
could be internal bleeding, a bad reaction to the medicine given before or after
surgery, inflammation, etc. In both spaying and neutering, the procedure has to be
done at the perfect time, not too early and not too late, or it could cause hip dysplasia
and bone
Censorship in Schools Essay
Censorship in Schools
There has recently been a renewed interest and passion in the issue of censorship. In
the realm of the censorship of books in schools alone, several hundred cases have
surfaced each year for nearly the past decade. Controversies over which books to
include in the high school English curriculum present a clash of values between
teachers, school systems, and parents over what is appropriate for and meaningful to
students. It is important to strike a balance between English that is meaningful to
students by relating to their lives and representing diversity and satisfying worries
about the appropriateness of what is read. This burden often falls on teachers. The
purpose of this research paper is to discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Censorship can take different shapes depending on the public school system: Schools
can give teachers a list of acceptable books to teach, just provide guidelines, or
leave it up to the teachers to judge which books are appropriate (Agee, 1999).
Teachers are often very nervous about including texts that are not traditional or
specifically approved by the school, especially because of the highly publicized cases
of teachers whose careers have been ruined because of censorship debates in courts
and school systems (Agee, 1999).
First Amendment Rights Relating to the Censorship of Books
Censorship cases often bring about debates over students first amendment rights.
Students first amendment rights are important to preserve so that students can not
be excluded from meaningful works or literature. It is understandable for the
government to design educational plans as a way to get its voice into classrooms,
but the truth promoting function of the First Amendment provides no reason,
however, to question the right of students to explore a variety of ideas and
perspectives, and to form and express ideas of their own (Brown, 1994, p. 30).
Schools already place a restriction on religious material or material addressing current
political controversy (Brown, 1994).
Censors typically feel as though the subject material of controversial books in the
high school English curriculum is too much for teenagers to handle (Shen, 2002).

Fierce competition, both local and foreign brands. Could also be distributed
anywhere. The products were mainly cleansing bar soaps, creams, foams, all
marketed for general skin care (not necessarily for acne specifically).
Analysis: poor positioning considering market characteristics and distribution systems
Clearasil s introduction in Japan was initially successful, but mostly because it had
the first mover advantage. Being the first product to be adversities solely for acne
treatment, Clearasil initiated the market in Japan. However, as local and international
competitors entered the market, Clearasil s strategy showed to be inappropriate.
Consequently its sales gradually decreased, never able to reach the initial levels.
One of the issues was the decision to register Clearasil as a drug, and the functional
3 way advertising of the product. Neither of them was suitable given the cultural
acceptance of acne in Japan. Due to that, Clearasil was perceived as too strong, only
to be used in extremes cases, which limited its target market.
Also, being registered as a drug limited the distribution system to only drugstores,
and could be indicated by doctors or the drugstore staff since consumer patterns were
directed by word of mouth. The decision to register Clearasil as drug in the Japanese
market was not advantageous.
Another issue was Nippon Vicks being associated with Colac (laxative product),
which was not

He is known as the father of Romanticism. He believed that humans must follow the
promptings of our own nature , and not be bound by social laws of politeness. He
also wrote an autobiography, Confessions that discusses his experience of crossing
the Alps alone on foot; Confessions is a perfect example of his Romantic passion,
for example, I need torrents, rocks, firs, dark woods, mountains... to make me
afraid (King 11). Smart is recognized as an original poet and forerunner of the
Romantics, best known is his loving itemization of the qualities of his cat, a
classically Romantic appreciation of a being that rejoices in being itself and
living for the day. Chatterton inspired Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Shelley because
of his determination to seek his life in London although he was depressed and died
at a young age. He was a product of youthful genius. Coleridge describes him as the
marvelous Boy, the sleepless Soul that perished in his pride. Chatterton s early
death is also said to be a Romantic foreshadowing of the early deaths of all three of
the second generation of Romantic poets (King 13 15). Godwin was an atheist and
believed humans could improve themselves without institutions or laws. His
daughter was Mary Godwin, who married Percy Shelley. She wrote Frankenstein,
which is known as a Gothic novel in Romanticism (King 16). The period also

European Expansion In The New World Essay
Impacts of European expansion reached across the world and affected more than
the expanding European powers and their colonies in the new world. Life in the
world changed when these two cultures that were directly opposite of one another
collided. Europe was filled with greed for resources and wealth, the Indigenous
people living on these resources were living a simple sustainable life with next to no
government or regulation. Once the new world was set up Europeans who ran these
new territories called colonists today developed their own society and way of living
and would end up revolting against the homeland. Indigenous people in the Americas
or Indians as Christopher Columbus first named them on an exploration voyage in
1492, had their lives completely change almost immediately upon the arrival of
European settlers. Settlement in the New World as... Show more content on

In the New World or the Americas as we know them today settlers of colonies or
colonists moved in at their respective locations and began living a new life in a New
World. Europeans tried to recreate Europein America they forced native people to
live their lives and created systems to exploit native people. Systems such as these
were implemented in the New World to assert the dominance of Europe and allow
the countries colonizing to take what they wanted. European expansion into the
New World brought a lot of changes, motivated by boosting trade and economy,
some countries failed to see the harm done in accomplishing it. It was the colliding
of two worlds that were not ready to meet that suddenly and abruptly. Without the
brave explorers and colonists however, America may have not been discovered, or
noticed for many years. The New World gave the Old World something and vice
versa it is obvious today one needs the other to survive and that is what we all strive
Argumentative Synthesis Of The Simpsons, South Park,
And...
Argumentative Synthesis of The Simpsons, South Park, and Social Satire The
question of immigration had been one of America s biggest issues since the 1500s.
Mass immigration began in the late 1600s and became uncontrollable for the native
population to control. In fact, many began to move west where opportunity existed.
After the ratification of the Constitution in 1789, the question of immigrationdied
down until the Irish and German immigration wave in the mid 19th century. Today,
immigration is no longer a major issue, but illegal immigration is. All through the
late 20th and early 21st century, many Latin Americans began to come to the US,
undocumented. Media and government address the issue of illegal immigration in
many different ways. The government is usually strongly against illegal
immigration and some politicians make it the issue of their campaigns. The media,
on the other hand, may vary in their views on the issue. South Park and The
Simpsons both satirize the issue of illegal immigration in their own different way.
South Park addressed the issue of illegal immigration in a rather peculiar way. In the
South Park episode Goobacks, the producers show people from the future traveling
to South Park and taking jobs for cheap. The statistics say that if one can come then
many can and will as well. In Goobacks, the first time traveler appears and explains
the situation of Earth in the future, how the economic, and environmental problems
are way out of hand.
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Polymers
1.1Introduction:
Polymer is derived from the Greek word. It can be broken down into Poly means
many and mer means units. This shows that a polymer has small units called
monomers in its chemical composition which are bound together to form a large
molecule. Depending on the arrangement of different chains and how they are joined,
polymers can be classified as:
пѓ Thermoplastics
пѓ Thermosets
пѓ Elastomers

There is design freedom, low weight, no corrosion, transparency when plastic is used.
On the other hand metals are stiff and strong and so can be machined and welded and
this leads to high tolerance which can be used at high temperatures. Thermoplastics
which can be used as metal substitutes include nylon, polyamide [PA], polybutylene
terephthalate [PBT], poly oxymethylene [POM], polyphenylenesulphide [PPS],
polyarylmide [PARA], polypthalamide [PPA], polyetheretherketone [PEEK], etc.
these polymers offer high tensile strength and are flexible.
1.4 Advantages of Polymer Material for Mass Production Now a days there is a very
little gap between use of metals and polymers. Use of polymer is increasing day by
day due to the following reasons:
пѓ Design freedom: it is very easy to mold polymers in any shape and form like
injection molding and blow molding at a very low cost. Polymers can be treated with
chemicals to bring out multiple properties in them which is not possible easily with
metals.
пѓ Performance: polymers have high benefits. They reduce the weight, resistant to
chemical and impact, corrosion free, etc. the main reason for the use of polymers is
the reduction in weight.
пѓ Efficiency: due to metal replacement there is an increase in manufacturing
efficiency as multiple individual components in a product can be brought together
into a single component using
Cultures And Values Of Culture, Culture And Culture
Culture is a body of characteristics such as beliefs, social norms and ethnic
background shared in a region by a population of people. Development and discipline
can be influenced by culture. Culture contains values, norms, prejudice, social
influence and human activity. Values and beliefs hold high importance. An example
would be religion, in many cultures religion is of high value (Kerfoot). Norms set an
expectation to what is socially acceptable. Prejudice is formed in culture. This bias
can be generalized ideas formed off popular belief and tolerance (Wilson 2008).

Puuritan And Puritan
Throughout history God has had a place in society, by either being the divine leader,
the creator of everything or even a non existent character. The Puritans were an
English Protestant group in the late 16th and 17th century that believed God was the
divine leader. With their strong beliefs and strict laws controlling their followers, the
Puritans lived a simple life praising the lord to one day get into Heaven. In the
Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthornea descendant of early Puritansettlers; a story is
told based in a Puritan community following the life of Hester Prynne and her Puritan
community around her. We see in this novel how the life of the Puritans are
deposited. Another story that shows the Puritan life is The Devil and Tom Walker by
Washington Irving. He brought a new voice to literature by writing The Devil and
Tom Walker a dark story with the devil. After reading these two stories we see how
both authors showed the Puritan lifestyle in both. Also how Puritanism affects the
characters in both stories and how each author had their own opinions on the
Puritans. The authors show the life of the Puritans and their belief of heaven and hell
through these chilling stories. Washington irving and Nathaniel Hawthorne show the
Puritan lifestyle in both if their stories. They may have depicted the puritan lifestyle
in similar different ways but overall Puritanism is shown through the stories. Religion
was a substantial part of the puritan lifestyle and this is

and Hinda Kibort detail their horrifying account of Hitler s rash and day to day life in
the Nazi concentration camps where they were imprisoned. The Final Solutionwas a
plan systematically matriculated by the Nazi to exterminate European Jews by
placing them in work camps designed for certain death.
Sam Bankhalter was just fourteen at the time when he was captured by the Nazis
in his native land of Poland and exiled to Auschwitz. In a detailed account he paints
the picture of life as a Jew during Hitler s fury and the unimaginable accounts of
terror that occurred. According to Bankhalter, racism of European Jews was
already occurring in Poland even before Hitler invaded, and their slogan was Jew

school grounds on a daily basis, long before Hitler invaded. Bankhalter describes his
journey to the ghetto as laced with barbed wire and Nazi mocking Jews cutting off
men s beards and beating them as they yelled at the Jews to assemble. The Nazi s
only gave them about twenty minutes to pack, leaving them time to only gather the
necessities, which would only be stripped from them later. Bankhalter was only in the
ghetto for a short time, and then sent

Anti-Trust Laws Essay
Anti Trust Laws
The anti trust movement in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s is a prime
example of the conflict in society between autonomy and responsibility. Trust related
issues tested the extent to which the government could allow businesses to maintain
their autonomy and at the same time fulfill its responsibility to protect the right of
the common worker. America was founded on the principles of free enterprise.
Throughout its history, the United States government maintained a laissez faire or

Also, railroads would charge more for transporting goods a short distance than they
would for a long one. The reason for this was that over a long distance they needed
to cut rates to keep up with the competition from other railroad lines. When only
traveling a short distance, there was most likely only one line that traveled the route
and farmers were forced to pay whatever rate that particular railroad was charging. In
order to get more business, railroads would also refund money to big business owners
who used their lines. Such refunds were known as rebates. Since these businesses
paid less to transport their goods, they could sell them at a cheaper rate than small
business owners thus driving the small business owners out of business.2 Other
practices used by big business included vertical integration, horizontal integration,
trusts, interlocking directorates, and holding companies. Vertical integration occurred
when one business controlled all industries involved in making a product from the
raw materials to the finished consumer version. In a horizontally integrated industry
all companies that produced a certain type of product consolidated to corner the
market. 3 A trustwas controlled by a board of trustees that controlled the stock and
voting privileges of a number of companies in the same industry.4 In an interlocking
directorate, the same people sat on the board of directors for multiple

Difference Between The Europeans Expansion Of The New
World
There were Spain, England, France, Russia and China expeditions that visited all
parts of the Ocean including Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean basin. Europeans
were not the only people who were explored the larger world. In the1400 and 1800,
European sailors, explorers and adventures launched series of exploratory voyages
to explore the world and brought them to almost to all the earths water. The
explorers, conquerors, missionaries, merchants, and adventurers sought to claim new
lands to colonize, new land for possession and control trade routes. In the following,
I will discuss the differences between the motivations of the Europeans expansion of
the New World and develop empires whereas the societies of Asia and Africa
did not.

Gdls Should Teach Adolescents To Drive
GDLs are a more successful and effective way to teach adolescents to drive.
According to the text, Our current programs don t teach young people to drive ...
They teach them how to pass a test. . Using GDLs will allow practice on the roads
for driving and better accuracy. GDLs allow teens to receive drivingprivileges slow
and steady instead of all piled at once.GDLs will help drivers better rather than
waiting until 18 to get a driver s license.
The current programs that are supposed to teach people to drive are only teaching
them to pass a driver s test. When having a GDL, you can actually practice driving
which will improve your skills. If you just take a test, you are only receiving a vast
amount of information which will go through
Light In The Forest Johnny Tremain Analysis
Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft The Light in the Forest, by Conrad
Richter, and Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes, are two incredibly distinct novels,
each with their own similarities and differences when compared to one another.
True Son, the protagonist in Light in the Forest, is a fifteen year old boy raised by
a tribe of Delaware Indians for the past eleven years of his life. Though he is
biologically American, he wholeheartedly considers himself a full blooded Indian.
This not only creates turmoil when he is forcibly moved to his biological white
family but causes True Son confusion when he is forced to choose between not only
his two families but his two other identities as well. On the other hand, Johnny
Tremain, the protagonist in the novel Johnny Tremain, faces a completely different
situation for he is a fourteen year old boy living in colonial Boston. He is at first
entirely self centered and arrogant due to his prodigious gifts as a silversmith
apprentice. However, when an unfortunate injury results in him having a crippled
hand, this destroys any chance of him being an adequate silversmith. He faces
humiliation but through many struggles and difficulties transforms into a patriotic
man. Through analyzing the two novels, there were many similarities and
differences found. Similarities include the difficult journey they both encounter as
well as their similar behavior. On the contrary, both individuals differ through their
race and how they were brought up. Both True Son and Johnny Tremain desire to
stay in a comfortable setting. They greatly enjoy their life and make no wish to
change it. And yet, both characters were forced to face hardships which ultimately
changes both their situation as well as their perspectives in life. For instance,
Johnny Tremain had a comfortable position in life. He was widely considered the
most talented young silversmith in Boston. Though he was egotistic, he was
destined for a bright future. Regrettably, when molten silver disfigured his hand he
lost his chance at ever becoming a silversmith and can no longer find skilled work.
Filled with self pity and despair, he almost turns to a life of crime. Only his

Ldr Philosophies Last Castle Essay
Leader Philosophies, Themes, and Strategies Employed through The Last Castle
(Information from the film will be written in a basic Times New Roman, Font 12;

italicized, as well as my added comments)
The Last Castle was packed full of leaders; bad, good, and great according to the
numerous leadership philosophies, themes, and strategies that I will identify. The
movie begins with Lieutenant General (3 Star) Irwin coming off the bus in his dress
green uniform, while in handcuffs. He has the entire prison (staff, soldiers, and
prisoners) watching him being escorted into the Castle prison. While he is escorted,
the prisoners are taking bets on how long he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Furthermore, withholding resources is one of The 12 Elements of Great
Managing (I have the materials and equipment I need to do my work right, Ch. 2,
The Second Element) Basketball is not considered work; however, it is a part of
their daily activities, and withholding items causes friction on the court, which
does not allow for everyone to participate. While chaos / a fight arose, other
prisoners, the guards, and the Colonel observed, until the Colonel finally gave the
order to put a stop to it. Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition,
apparently the Colonel had given orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it
an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as the Colonel called them
often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4,
assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil...
as the prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of
prisoners in The Castle like the beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two
favorite concubines because they failed to follow orders. Just like the Colonel gave
orders a second time before commanding the marksman to shoot, Sun Tzu gave the
orders a second time before he killed the concubines. When the orders have been
made clear, and are not carried out in accordance with military law, it is a
The Federal Reserve Transparency Act
When discussing various issues affecting the federal government, transparency
issues have to be put on the front line because the Federal Reserve s should have
one of the most transparent systems. The Federal Reserve transparency act was
formulated in order to ensure that there is transparency in the federal reserves
through making the federal government publicize most of the financial institutions
that it offers loans to and the organizations which use the open market operations in
order to purchase bonds. It s more likely to embarrass the central bank in the
exposure of the federal transactions and that can lead to political pressure in the
congress. This study is aimed towards exploring the issue of auditing the federal

Most of the balance sheets concerning the federal government activities and the
financial statements have to be made clear to the public through auditing. This is
because most of these reports are not detailed in terms of the various transactions
with the foreign governments in the US and the central banks in the US. This forms
a major concern in terms of auditing the federal reserves. With the proper support of
auditing the federal reserves, it can make the various reports to be conclusive in
terms of transactions carried out between the federal reserves and the other
governments. Most of the working balances dealing with the foreign currencies and
offering contracts are not related to the monetary policy operations in the FRBNY. In
the financial statements, most of these incomes are recognized as others. Most of the
proponents in support of auditing want to know the why, the who and the how much
money was involved in such dealings. Greater details would be able to signify issues
of accountability and not indicating using one number, others in the financial
statements.
There is less public knowledge in issues dealing with FOMC meetings and that has
been able to affect the issues of transparency in the monetary issues. Through the
meetings, the monetary policies regarding the global issues are discussed and
therefore the public is entitled to now the progress of the various meetings. This can

Judas Priest Influence On Society
The heavy metal band Judas Priest was known for being one of the most popular and
most respected heavy metal bands on the planet. Even though they have had many
members, they have made a huge impact in the heavy metal genre. They were hugely
influenced by two of the most popular and well known heavy metal bands of all time.
Judas Priest was influenced by Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Both Black Sabbath
and Judas Priest came from Birmingham, and were heavily influenced by the
factories and bleak surroundings of the area (Bowe 26). Early in their career, Black
Sabbath had let Judas Priest borrow their rehearsal space. One of the first members
of Judas Priest had briefly been involved with Earth, which was the band that became

In 1973, Al Atkins and Chris Campbell left the band because they weren t happy
with the band s lack of money. Sue Halford mentioned her brother, Rob Halford, as
an exchange for Al, welcoming him into the band soon after (Bowe 33). This
seemed to turn things around for Judas Priest. In 1978, the band began to change
up their look. Instead of satin bloused, bell bottoms, and wide brimmed hats, they
wore black leather and metal studs (Bowe 40). After the release of Hell Bent for
Leather in 1979, they brought in handcuffs and whips, completing their look. After
this, many heavy metal bands had began to take on the look as well (Bowe 42).
CREEM magazine decided to put Judas Priest on the cover in August 1981 (Bowe
47). Judas Priest s only concert appearance was a huge charity concert in
Philadelphia and London in 1985 to help people in Africa that were starving, and
the name of this organization was Live Aid. In that same year, many heavy metal
artists got criticized for their lyrics (Bowe 53). From all the stress of the Reno trial
and constant touring and recording, Rob Halford wanted a break from the band,
officially leaving in 1992. This caused a long, messy fight between him and the
other band members (Bowe 63). Then in 1994, Glenn Tipton started his own
career (Bowe 64). In 1997, Halford was replaced by Tim Ripper Owens, the nickname
given to him by the band (Billik). In 1998, Rob Halford was ready to tell people

V. Issues Regarding The Public Key
V.Issues regarding the Public Key Cryptosystem With public keys being unique
and the algorithms creating extremely hard to crack encryption. Although with this
method, it also is extremely taxing on the computer system to encrypt and decrypt
the message. Which is one of the main reasons that private key encryption is still a
thing to this day. The reason for this is the whole idea behind a public key
cryptosystem. To be able to release the encryption key without revealing the private
decryption key. For this to be achievable, much heavier mathematics is needed
compared to a private key which you just need to tangle up the bits so that the
private key is the only thing that can untangle the bits. With the known and used
public key cryptosystems, they reach the necessary security, but at the cost of a
very heavy computation cost. The issue continues with using up bandwidth as
well. Anyone can use the public key, including an attacker. Which means that if all
of your data is decrypted in the same way the attacker can run an exhaustive search
on any encrypted data, even data they encrypted themselves, to crack your
encryption. So any encrypted data that an attacker can get their hands on is still
valuable and useable data to them. To keep the level of security we want, we need
to add more randomness to the encryption. With extra randomness this will include
a data size increase. Let s say you need a 1024 bit key to keep an increased element
of randomness. This means you are
Computer Engineering At Shanghai Jiao Tong University
During my college career, through various challenging courses and research
experience, as a computer engineering major, I not only obtained a solid background
knowledge in this field but developed an analytical mind for research and a passion to
continuing working in computer architecture. After deliberating on my future, I
decided to apply for the Ph.D. program at (department of Computer Science
Engineering) at (the Pennsylvania State University).
I was honored to be admitted to the dual degree program of Shanghai Jiao Tong
University and the University of Michigan in 2013. During my freshman and
sophomore years at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I led some embedded system
related projects, and developed small applications on different kinds of
microprocessors. Writing software that is so close to hardware made me curious
about how these microprocessor s internal architecture works. Therefore, I declared
my major in Computer Engineering when I started my junior year at the University
of Michigan. However, what really got me excited about the field of computer
architecture was the Computer Architecture course. The course gave me the
opportunity to build a synthesizable two way out of order MIPS R10K based
processor in Verilog. By walking through the progress that computer engineers have
been made since last century, I realized that I can learn more about computer
architecture and even make innovations by joining them in academic research.

How To Reduce Textbook Prices Benefit College Students
Textbook prices have reached outrageously high numbers! Today there are many
college students who are struggling in making a decision between paying for their
rent, or paying for their college textbooks. This has also limited students abilities to
attend classes which require expensive textbooks. However, there are multiple ways
to help make college textbooks more affordable for all students. Some examples
include using open online resources, and textbooks made by colleges and
universities, or even a combination of the two. Tennessee can be a leader in making
education affordable while also making a great investment in students who are the
future of the United States and the world. All of which, can be done by helping to
reduce the high costs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tennessee has already passed laws to make professors aware of textbook prices
(Friedl 1). However, with forced new editions of textbooks, the prices are renewed,
and used books are unavailable. Education is a great investment because it
generally helps people to earn higher income which in return, will allow people to
pay higher amounts of money in taxes. A great way the state of Tennessee can help
reduce costs of textbooks is by removing sales tax on textbooks. Sure, 9.25% is not
a very high percentage. However, 9.25% of $900 is roughly eighty four dollars.
Eighty four dollars is enough to buy an additional textbook that could be used for
another class. Regulations should be set in place to encourage companies to charge
less for textbooks, and to slow down the high rate of textbook price inflation.
Examples of regulations to be considered include the following: a required
percentage of content changes and/or updates in new textbook editions, and taxing
textbook publishers based on profit margins of textbooks. While the second
regulation may seem extreme, with it, textbook publishers will be encouraged to
keep profits low to avoid paying higher tax
Horton Foote Biography
Horton Foote once said, I have enormous respect for the human being because they
re asked to take on a lot. And I don t think there s any easy solution. But I think the
journey is what you have to finally be satisfied with, but not be afraid of the lessons
one has to learn... it ends up as grace. And you grow; you find a way to continue .
Foote was an ambitious man who kept a family while he became a legend to the
world through his acting career, as a screen writer, and as a novelist. Born in 1916
in Wharton, Texas, Horton Foote had two younger brothers, which one died in aerial
combat over Germany. He was married to Lillian Vallish Footed for forty seven years
until her death in 1992. They had four children together, Horton Foote, Jr. an... Show

After the success of that play, Foote wrote a full length play called the Texas Town
which was in production with the American Actors Company in 1941. Foote took
the lead in Texas Town. New York Times theater critic Brooks Atkinson showed up
at the performance and praised the play as, according to Hampton, an engrossing
portrait of small town life (2010). For sixty years, Foote had a career as a
playwright, television and film screenwriter, and novelist. He stayed strong to his
roots and adapted the Southern writing. His great nine play The Orphan s Home is
based on his parents. Times drama critic Frank Rich, he was a major American
dramatist whose epic body of work recalls Chekhov in its quotidian comedy and
heartbreak, and Faulkner in its ability to make his own corner of America stand for
the whole (2013). Foote s fame grew from his script of To Kill a Mockingbird. The
film shows Foote s sensitivity and artistry on every frame, but its mass appeal owes
a great deal to elements not characteristic of his original work (2004). Horton Foote s
playwrights were always unique in topics like music, dance, poetry, and fiction. Foote
was a generous spirit and always energetic. During the 1950 s Foote made some
Broadway productions like the The Trip to Bountiful in 1953. However the 1950 s
were about the televised shows like the Studio One and Playhouse 90. Horton Foote
Wheel Alignment
Wheel Alignment | Mechanics Lewisville, TX
The jolt to a vehicle s suspension from hitting a large pothole or a curb can throw
your car s wheels out of alignment and damage your tires over time. When a vehicle
s front end is out of alignment, tires will wear unevenly and handling problems are
possible. Furthermore, a misaligned front end can increase wear and tear on front
suspension components, increasing the cost of repairs. Safe driving depends on
preventive care and maintenance of the vehicle, including wheel alignment and the
tires. Properly maintained tires improve the steering, braking, and traction of the
vehicle. Fifth Gear Automotive offers professionally certified mechanics in

Caster is the angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side of the vehicle.
With a positive caster, the steering axis will tilt toward the driver. A negative caster

Thrust angle is the direction the rear wheels are pointing in relation to the centerline
of the vehicle. If the thrust angle is not zero the steering wheel will not be centered.
Fifth Gear mechanics in Lewisville, TX can provide the adjustment needed.
The importance of a four wheel alignment was not realized until front wheel drive
vehicles appeared in the market. Since that time, garages often prefer four wheel
alignments even on vehicles without adjustments, in order to ensure the rear
suspension is properly aligned. Wear and age, accidents and severe potholes or direct
hits to a curb can cause damage to the rear suspension resulting in poor tire wear.

Similarities Between La Belle Dame Sans Merci And
Annabel Lee
Love in Poe s Annabel Lee and Keats s La Belle Dame sans Merci
Poe s Annabel Lee and Keats s La Belle Dame sans Merci depict the destructive
effects that women exercise upon men. In both poems, women, by death and
deception, harm their adoring lovers. In Annabel Lee, Annabel dies and leaves the
speaker in isolation; in La Belle Dame Sans Merci, the fairy, La Belle Dame, captures
the speaker s heart, and then deserts him. The common theme of both poems, that
love generates harmful effects, is a reflection of both poets upsetting and harmful
childhood experiences.
Poetry, Keats purports, comes from the ferment of an unhappy childhood working
through a noble imagination (Keats 16). The lesson of [Keat s] ... Show more content

He creates an aroma of sex in pacing steed, which might be an innocent horse ride,
but is possibly a sexual metaphor (the speaker being the steed.) The repetition of
wild eyes is a sexual euphemism, furthering the sexual nature of love expressed
within the poem. Even the knight s last memory of the fairy is of a sexual nature;
the knight receives kisses four, afterwards the fairy lulls him to sleep. Keats s love
is relatively more tenuous than Poe s, because the fairy s love is unpredictable,
and bizarre ( In language strange she said / I love thee true ). This love is also
destructive, as warned by the dead men in the last stanza with their horrid warning
that La Belle Dame/ Thee hath in thrall! Poe and Keats employ the their speakers
painful experiences with love as examples of love s ruinous consequences.
La Belle Dame sans Merci and Annabel Lee develop their characters with attention to
details, so that the impact of the characters experiences are more intense and vivid..
In Annabel Lee, the speaker calls Annabel a maiden, starting the poem with virtuous
connotations. The reader learns that Annabel is from high birth through reference to
her as a highborn kinsmen, and her grave as a sepulchre. Annabel s wealthy birthright

Critical Analysis Of The Chrysanthemums
Didn t See That One Coming
I ve never discriminated a book or a story. Even the ones that never make my heart
fully resonate to them. Still, I saw and understood their value. I simply knew they
were not meant for me and what they carry within their pages will, one day, find its
rightful place into someone else s hands. But recently, I ve read something
unexpected. I ve read John Steinbeck short story The Chrysanthemums, and it left me
completely displeased. As much as I would like, I can t seem to find the any value
in it. Because something like this never happen before, I used internet hoping it
would help me find some enlightenment on the purpose of the story. The results of
my researches were not as helpful as I wished for. They all ... Show more content on

I don t view this issue as something to be taken lightly. But after reading The
Chrysanthemums, I got the impression the author was trying to suppress the issue
by never addressing the subject openly. He made it feels like his purpose wasn t
really about defending women s intelligence. If it s the subject he decided to
defend, shouldn t he go all the way and don t hold back? Except, I feel he did hold
back and tried to bury the subject under a tone of unnecessary details. In a too long
and too slow pace, Steinbeck didn t skimp on the overflowing of never ending
descriptions of the surrounding and on the actions undertaken by the characters. Or
perhaps I should say lack of proper actions? Anyhow, this goes on and on throughout
the entire story and each moment left me hanging for something greater to happen.
It felt like the action, good or bad, was going to pick up at any moment and the
story will finally begin to take all of it sense. But before any of that ever happened,
the story ended. And, that s it. Nothing else! A short story of seven pages closed and
left me, no way nearer to understand the purpose behind Steinbeck words. It is so
aggravating that I kept expecting something to happen to the characters at every turn,
something that would bring to life the true meaning behind Steinbeck words. But, I
cannot! Instead, I m baffled that the unexpected happened.

My Observation At Oakwood Methodist Preschool
I conducted my observation at Oakwood Methodist Preschool on May 9, 2016 at
9:30 in the morning and 3:00 in the afternoon. The child I observed was a 16 month
old female that I did have previously relations too. I use to work at Oakwood
Methodist as an Extended Care Teacher. I use to care for Baby M in the infantroom.
During the observationthere were two teachers, and 7 infants. The room that the
observation took place in had many toys such as: balls, bouncers, walkers, rattles,
and soft plush books. There was also a play mat where all the toys were, and two
rocking chairs in the room. During this observation I focused on 6 different
developmental domains. In my paper I am going to discuss perception, motor skills,
cognitive ability, communication/language, social skills, and emotions.
Perception is how the infant incorporates his/her 5 senses into what they are
exploring, and reacting too. During my observation Baby M reacted to sights,
sounds, and touching. According to the book haptic perception is perception of the
properties of an object using touch (Fogel, 2011. PG 152). Baby M placed the balls
and teethers directly in her mouth to get a better idea or perception of what the toy
was. Although she is at the age where she knew what each toy was she still explored
it using her mouth. Baby M also showed signs of auditory development by listening
to what the caregiver was saying to her and responding with positive emotions when
told to do something.
The second domain
Speach Therapy Treatment Plan Essay
Treatment plan Articulation: Goal: In 6 weeks, with a treatment frequency of 5
hours a week, mrs. K. speaks words with velar sounds (/ng/ /g/ /k/) in a 1 to 1
conversation with an acquaintance in an intelligible way. Methods: First we will
check which velar sounds mrs. K. can produce better than the others. After that, we
will do articulation exercises. We will train syllables in a CV order and words in
CVC order, but soon we will train syllables and words with clusters to make it
more difficult. Mrs. K. has a moderate flaccid dysarthria, so we think that she can
manage it to train in the beginning with complex words. That way, she will also

Methods: We will use mime therapy. According to Beurskens Heymans (2006, p.
1) mime therapy improves facial symmetry and reduces the severity of paresis in
people with facial nerve paresis. The aim of mime therapy is to promote symmetry
of the face at rest and during movement (Beurskens et al., 2004, p. 208). In therapy,
a mirror is used as feedback instrument, as it is necessary to see how exercises are
performed. We choose to do the mime therapy in our therapy planning because mrs.
K. revealed that she wants to smile arbitrary in a symmetric way again. We
conclude from the case example that this is a very important goal for her. We
expect mrs. K. to do homework every day. She has to massage her face and neck
(daily 10 15 minutes) to relax the facial musculature and improve circulation and
she has to do relaxation exercises. Evaluation: According Beurskens et al. (2004, p.
XX), the House Brackmann scale is used to evaluate positive changes in the facial
symmetry. We expect an improvement for 1 grade (Beurskens et al., 2004, pag
210). Prosody: Later on, we want to work on the prosody, because she has a low and
monotone voice. That could be a problem when she wants to read to her
grandchildren. We expect it also to be a problem for her intelligibility when she is
conversing with other people. We think that the articulation problems have priority at
this moment, so we start with that. After

The Best Years Of Our Lives Analysis
After World War II ended, people expected life to return back to normal
immediately, but this was not the case. Veterans came home to their sweethearts
and many could not ease into the previous lives without thinking about war. Jobs
and homes were not easy to come by, which is why the film The Best Years of Our
Lives does a fantastic job of recreating the American society. The movie was filmed
in 1946, thus making it realistic. The Best Years of Our Lives reflects the post war
era because the American society was ready to move forward with their lives, but
ex servicemen were having difficulty transitioning back into their past lives. This
film follows three men named Al Stevenson, Fred Derry and Homer Parrish as they
return to Boone City and back to the arms of their eager family. Like many veterans
after the war, many were anxious and could not reconnect with their family and loved
ones immediately due to the high intensity events they experienced back in Europe or
in the Pacific. For example, Homer served on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific that
sunk, which burned off his arms and left him with metal prosthetics; this made him

portrayed the era. The actors showed how hopeful everyone was to make a new

but Peggy accepted that unlike Marie. In addition, Homer s prosthetics made him
feel vulnerable, but his fiancee proved to him that love is more than what can be
seen. I really enjoyed the movie because everyone had their own personal battles,
but with everyone s support and advice, everyone moved forward. Homer
eventually married Wilma and Fred and Peggy ended up together. It was quite a
happy film and I loved

C. Coherence
For a linear system, the coherence function is given as

where Sxy (П‰k) is the input output cross spectrum (i.e., the power spectrum of the
cross correlation between the input and output functions), and Sxx (П‰k) and Syy

Krishna and Rama as exemplars of Dharma Essay examples
Dharma is knowledge prominently directed to the achievement of desired
happiness here (i.e. in this life) and hereafter by means of appropriate actions .
(Khan, Benjamin. The Concept of Dharma in Valmiki) Rama and Krishna have
been set as perfect exemplars of Dharma in the texts of Ramayana and Mahabharata
respectively. They are considered to be the reincarnations of God Visnu, a Supreme
Being, and supposedly lived their lives according to the Dharmic (or right) way of
life. However, the stories of Ramaand Krishna in the texts include some of their
actions, which are questionable to the act of Dharma. This may lead one to question

He says that there must be a framework within a society, which is mutually agreed
upon by the existing society. Dharma is embedded in that comprehensive framework
which is to be followed by the society without asking any questions.
It has already been mentioned that wherever conscious living beings congregate
some classes are bound to take place, and the first and the most obvious way of
preventing conflicts of interest in a community is for all its members to have the
same aims, same interests, same desires, hopes and fears, in fact the same
dispositions...Thus primitive ethics is deontological, a matter of rigid duties, taboos,
customs, and commandment, the fixed and unalterable. Khan then expresses that
Dharma unites the various castes in a society. He starts off with the fact that castes
will always be formed within any society. He says that these different castes will
have huge differences within the society but Dharma will unite these castes. He says
that Dharma provides everyone with the same aims, desires, hopes and fears but also
allows the different castes to have different roles in the society. Dharma, hence
allows the different castes to practice their own duties without causing any conflict
amongst them. Without conflict, a sustainable society can be upheld by following
the rules of Dharma. Society succeeds because everyone follows the rules of
Dharma. There would have been chaos everywhere if the society did not follow
Dharma.
Minor Importance
Communication would be a great major but I am passionate about nursing. If
anything I would make it my minor. Of course the major is more important than
the minor, but the minor always benefits you somehow. Some might say minors do
not matter, but they do. Minors could help to shape one s future path a career will
take or even open a few potential outcomes for professions one may seek after.
Once in a while, having the right minor can serve as a kind of sudden death round
in the middle of you and a generally just as qualified competitor for the same
occupation. To have communication as my minor, 5 courses are required. Those 5
courses are a total of 18 hours. The 3 most promising courses out of those 5 that

Hofstr A Brief Summary And Analysis
Some may say that a person knows himself better than anyone else, I challenge that
opinion. When it came time to look for colleges I was clueless. I had given little
thought to possible options other than local fallback schools. I immediately turned
to a lifelong family friend, someone I always turn to when I need a sage s
knowledge. I told her what interested me: Political Science, English, History, and
Criminal Justice. In turn, she put together a list of possible options suited to me. With
this list in hand, I went on a journey to narrow it down.
My list of universities consisted of both familiar and obscure schools. As I was
reading through I saw one that caught my attention, Hofstra. I had never heard of it
before, but the name was interesting. A simple Google search gave the basics:
Hofstra is a relatively small school, located on Long Island not too far from
Philadelphia. I end up moving onto stage two. I talked with teachers and people
close to me. I went through the list, asking for their opinions. From my list I would
tell them Hofstra, and surprisingly most recognized it. Some commented, saying it is
a nice school and you would do great there. The popularity of this school, once
unknown to me, was quite shocking. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1. Define and explain the significance of jure imperii and jure gestionis (reference the
theory of sovereign immunity to which they are relevant).
Principally, the theory of restrictive sovereign immunity is basically when the
Department of States can elect to instill immunity, or otherwise not let immunity
happen (Murphy, 305). There are specifically two areas that either allows this unit to
acclaim immunity and or reject immunity (Murphy, 305). The first area is known as
jure imperii. When governments of other nations have an undertaking that is relevant
to the community, then immunity is acclaimed (Murphy, 305). The second area is
known as jure gestionis. If a government of another nation has relayed information on
undertakings in being profit oriented, then rejecting immunity is the option (Murphy,
305).

Relevance of Oral Tradition Around the Time of Colonization to the Present Day
Oral tradition exists in day to day life, from telling children stories or singing
lullabies, which are usually learnt in early childhood, to get them to sleep. Stories that
are told to children by non Aboriginal individuals are usually meant for entertainment
purposes and do not carry any deeper value, nor are they given any cultural or
spiritual importance. For many Aboriginal groups, however, stories and songs have a
much greater significance. Aboriginal peoples communities are often founded on
stories that are characteristically sustaining: communicating the epistemologies and
norms that constitute their worldviews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James Slotta writes, Chief Justice McEachern of the Supreme Court of British
Columbia dismissed the plaintiffs claims to Aboriginal title, self government, and
Aboriginal rights. Weighing the oral traditions they presented in support of their
claim, he commented, If I do not accept their evidence it will seldom be because I
think they are untruthful, but rather because I have a different view of what is fact
and what is belief (Slotta, 138). In this scenario, the Judge believes that the stories,
or any other information that the Indigenous people brought forward as proof of
how important their land was to them, is in fact purely belief, and therefore, the
people are rejected rights to their land. This is of great importance because the main
difference between what the laws deems as evidence and belief impacts crucial
decision making regarding the Aboriginal people s right to their land. In the Chief
Justice opinion evidence is what is recorded, or written down, nothing otherwise. For
this reason, Aboriginal peoples are directly losing their rights and indirectly losing
their connection to their own traditions. This is why Oral Tradition still carries
importance today: there are large amounts of people belonging to a spiritual group
that rely
Hester And Dimmesdale
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a Romantic novel about two
adulterers, Hester and Dimmesdale, who are forced to live with the repercussions
of their sin. Hester Prynne is punished by wearing a scarlet A which ostracizes her
from Puritan Boston, leading to several years of solitude. During this time, Roger
Chillingworth, her vengeful husband, preys on Dimmesdale, whose only source of
repent is in his hypocritical preachings. When Dimmesdale finally speaks to Hester
again, they plan to escape their wrongdoings by fleeing back to England, where they
can live together as a loving family with their daughter Pearl. Although some may
argue that Hester and Dimmesdale are in love, a closer examination of the novel

When Hester first traveled to the colonies, she was completely alone, and ...in two
years, or less...no tidings have come of this learned gentleman [her husband]
(Hawthorne 55). Hester, as a Puritan women, would have visited the church
frequently, where she most likely first met Dimmesdale. This young and attractive
Reverend would have easily caught the eye of Hester during their countless
interactions in the church; she was particularly vulnerable, being alone in a new
land, and her only relationship was a false and unnatural relation (Hawthorne 66)
with the man she left behind. This desire for a companion was reflected in both
Hester and Dimmesdale, as his only source of love was in the churchgoers, and it
eventually led to the ultimate malefaction: the act of adultery. Some may say that
Hester turning towards Dimmesdale during her time of seclusion constitutes love.
However, it only further proves that they more prominently felt lust, since both
Dimmesdale and Hester succumbed to their desires instead of listening to their
religion and simply comforting one another. True love can be defined not as physical
comfort, but as being there for one in their time of
Importance of Staffing in Organizations Essay
Importance of Staffing in Organizations
Staffing has been an important aspect in all types of organizations development.
More and more companies have noticed a good staffing plan could increase
productivity and reduce operation costs in terms of lower turnover rate and transition
costs. Good staffing could be able to minimize cost in order to maximize profit,
because it could assist the company to stay more competitive within the industry.

Organizations could select one or more of these tests, but they have to be careful of
the reliability and validity of all the results. Some results might be different depending
on the environment of the testing area, or the relationship between the applicants and
their previous employer/manager.
Many organizations depend only on the result of the test without taking the
reliability and validity into considerations, which that might lead to in hiring the
wrong people. What is the difference between reliability and validity? Reliability is
the consistency and the stability of a selection measurement and validity is the
degree to which a measure predicts on the job performance (Green, 2003). For
instance, the consistency of a test is made for to measure reliability and what kind
of method to use to test the candidate is to measure validity. Since reliability and
validity are both important aspects in the selection process, let s look at several
methods that are used in today s industries.
College Grade Point Average (GPA) is one of the areas that employers look at and
might weighted heavily in the selection process. According to a study, grades have a
fully corrected validity in the mid .30s for predicting job performance (Roth, BeVier,
Switzer, Schippmann, 1996) and a validity for .20 for predicting starting salary (Roth
The Two-Track Mind
Thinking critically, possessing a biopsychosocial approach and a two track mind, as
well as exploring human strengths continuously emerge in psychology as the four
main ideas. Critical thinking refers to inspecting any ideas given and not
automatically believing those concepts. The biopsychosocial approach discusses
human conduct and the perspectives of its examination. Those perspectives include
biologically, psychologically, and socially. Every human shares a similar biology, but
differences arise psychologically and socially. The latter two views differ due to one s
experiences, social interactions, and the culture with which one identifies with. The
two track mindrefers to the way the mind stores and sorts information. The human
mind does this two ways, knowingly and unknowingly, hence the term two track mind

Additionally, the relationship between the number of miles driven and the condition
of the vehicle s tires represents a negative correlation because as the number of miles
driven increases, the state of the tires decreases. Furthermore, the relationship
between hair color and number of vehicles owned represents a zero correlation
because one has no relation to the other.
Correlation does not provide proof that one variable causes another because it
merely predicts the likelihood of the relationship. Although two ideas can relate to
each other, other factors can also produce those two original elements. For
example, low self esteem could lead to depression, just as depression could lead to
low self esteem. Additionally, life experiences and hereditary traits could lead to
both low self esteem and depression (Myers and DeWall 17). In brief, correlation
can give some insight on how two ideas relate to one another, but it does not support a

If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth
at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy
Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his
way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition
to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a
rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or
lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west
Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle
lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one
s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada
has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than
recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed
before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books.
Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake advertisements and
recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth proves
that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in Fifth

Paganism In Beowulf
In the epic poem Beowulf the poem depicts the time in religious history where
Christian and pagan beliefs were introduced to society. This poem was written in the
time of the Anglo Saxon period where pagan was the preferred religion. In later
years as time gradually passed, Christianity became one of the more favored
religions. Beowulfcontains many elements of both religions. Though paganism was
very popular throughout this poem, it showed a mixture of the two beliefs. These
beliefs played a major role in the society of the seventh century, and these themes are
still shown in today s society. As students of literature we see that these universal

instances people view Nancy Pelosi as a pagan figure because of her broadcasts
and background statements. Pelosi stated, Our democracy has no room for inciting

such acts (Weigel). In this statement it shows how even a pagan figure of today s
culture sees evil amongst us, and we should turn towards the good. She made this
statement regarding to the Antifa, an anti fascist racist militia. This group of
cowards hide behind black clothing and masks. Just as in previous history people
of the KKK hid behind white masks and clothing. If they didn t have anything to

as the evil continues to progress it begins to brainwash the pure minds of humanity.

Age Specific Reproduction
The effects of age specific breeding and matriarch presence on elephant reproduction
Introduction
Although Robinson et al. was not able to determine the overall the long term effects
of early life reproduction, they provided results that show the immediate effects of
age specific reproduction. The impact of reproduction on younger females is an
important part of elephant survival, however, it is the impact of reproduction over
time that provides understanding of the future of elephant populations. In order to
show the later life effects of reproduction, Hayward et al. studied the survival of
calves and annual breeding success of elephants throughout their lives and into their
older age.

produced a study that examined the later life consequences of breeding on a
population, particularly breeding early in life. Hayward et al. also used the
Myanmar timber camp Elephas maximus to perform the research, looking at the
records of 416 reproductive captive born mothers and their offspring. The elephants
used were from 8 regions of the Myanmar timber camps with the youngest breeding
being 5 years of age and the oldest being 53. The mean age at the first birth of
offspring was 19.48 years with the maximum number of lifetime calves being 10
calves. Hayward et al. discovered that individuals who didn t produce calves
before the age of 19 had lower calf survival than those who produced one or more
calves before the age of 19. Although beginning reproduction earlier in life is
correlated with a shorter lifespan, the cost is outweighed with higher annual
breeding success as well as increased calf survival (Hayward et al). The investment
of energy and resources into breeding at an early age increases the chance of calf
survival but also results in shorter lifespans compared to those who begin
reproduction later in life (Hayward et al.). Based on the findings, the costs of early
life reproduction are offset by higher lifetime breeding success in younger elephants.
The breeding success of younger elephants can be attributed not only to early
reproduction, but also to older females in a herd. While Hayward et al. observes the
effects of young

Based on this, commercial banks offer individuals the following accounts for depositing their money: a.Current accounts those accounts that are mainly meant for businesses and other public and private organisations. Current accounts are cheque operated accounts that are not for savings purposes as no interest is paid on deposits in these accounts. b.Savings accounts refer to accounts that promote savings among individuals while allowing them to use their funds when required. Apart from this, individuals get interests on deposits in savings accounts. c.Fixed deposit accounts refer to accounts in which deposits are made for a fixed period. • 3. Worm Lab Report Title: The Effect of Nicotine on the Heart Rate of the Lumbriculus Variegatus Introduction: Background This lab is being done to demonstrate the effects of stimulants on the circulatory system of blackworms. In this lab, the stimulant we have chosen to use is Nicotine. A stimulant is an agent that causes increased activity, especially in the nervous or cardiovascular systems. In this lab, we will put blackworms into the Nicotine to look at the differences in pulse rates when compared to a control. The proper name for blackworms is Lumbriculus Variegatus, they are freshwater worms most commonly found in North America and Europe. The blood in blackworms circulates from the dorsal blood vessel toward the head through a series of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trial 2: Shaking began at 19 seconds, stopped at 0:56. Table 2 shows the worms in the 2.5mL of Nicotine which proved to be too strong. Table 3 shows the heart rates of worms in the diluted solution of 2.5mL Nicotine and 1mL H2O. Table 3 shows that the heart rate of worms is faster in the nicotine with the average pulse rate at 15.5 pulse/min. This table shows the data for the 15 control worms in water and then the same 15 in Nicotine. There are not 15 worms in the nicotine solution because our first solution was too strong and 6 of the worms died. The solution being used in this graph is 2.5 mL of Nicotine and 1 mL H20. This graph shows that the pulse rates of worms in Nicotine tend to be higher than that of the worms in water. This data proves the idea that stimulants raise heart rate. Conclusions:
  • 4. Hatred In Lloyd Jones s Mister Pip What s worse than being hated is being ignored, because it s like you don t exist at all and your presence is nothing Unknown. Many people believe that being outright disliked is the worst thing someone could do to another person. However, being disregarded or ignored can have a much larger and greater effect on one s self esteem and personal life. Many people suffer from exclusion everywhere around the world in schools and workplaces. Being ignored and negatively acknowledged can both be detrimental to one s self esteem and their overall productivity in offices and schools. I believe that being ignored has a much greater effect on one s personal well being and attitude towards life than outright dislike. In the novel Mister Pip, by Lloyd... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many different unique relationships but the most notable are his portrayal of characters that have outright dislike of each other. Jones portrays negative acknowledgement between characters such as Matilda s mom, Dolores, and Mr. Watts. He is thoroughly disliked by Dolores because he is for one, white and second, does not believe in God or the Devil. Nonetheless, despite the hate, Mr. Watts doesn t seem to mind one bit about this and carries on through life without feeling ashamed or distraught. He takes it upon himself to educate the children of the village and to open their minds to the world around them. Ultimately, Dolores dedication to the Bible is what draws the line between Mr. Watts and her. The quotes: At the end of the story, my mum looked across to Mr. Watts, and the two of them held each other s eye until they remembered us and When she showed up in class the next morning it was obvious she hadn t come to speak to us. She had come to pick a fight with Mr. Watts . These two quotes exemplifies the fact that tension has been created between the two individuals as a result of their own personal beliefs. Dolores explicitly expresses hatred and dislike towards Mr. Watts and does not want him to educate her girl Matilda. Although Mr. Watts was negatively acknowledged by Dolores, he does not falter off of his life path and continues to educate and be kind to all the people around him.Sadly, by the end of the book, he pays the ultimate price, sacrificing himself for the village that never really accepted his presence. Evidently, through this example, Lloyd Jones shows that dislike and negative acknowledgement is not nearly as severe as if one was being disregarded or
  • 5. Spaying And Neutering Essay The two sources I used in the last research summary were scientific resources because my topic has a scientific background. Both of them provided information on the history of the topic and went into great detail on facts about spaying and neutering. Both are the articles I used had similar information pertaining to the subject of spaying and neutering. In the first one, The History of Spaying and Neutering Animals it provided a few statistics about the overpopulation of pets, such as there were 300,000 homeless pets. In the other article, Pediatric Spay/Neuter, it specifically talked about spaying and neutering animals while they re extremely young. Although both of the articles were on the same topic, they shed light on spaying and neutering as a whole with specific topics in between. Now that I researched the history of spaying and neutering, there are many pros and cons that have been recognized by many.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both of the articles, Spaying Your Female DogPros and Cons and Neutering Your Male Dog Pros and Cons, it mentions that one major disadvantage for spaying and neutering is that it increases the risk of hemangiosarcoma, which is a deadly form of cancer. This type of cancer attacks the heart and spleen in the animal s body. In other words, while some types of cancer are prevented, some may come up. Also, it can cause hypothyroidism because it affects the endocrine system. Although it can be treated by medication, it still stressful for the dog and owner. Of course all surgeries are potentially dangerous and complications can pop up at any time. There could be internal bleeding, a bad reaction to the medicine given before or after surgery, inflammation, etc. In both spaying and neutering, the procedure has to be done at the perfect time, not too early and not too late, or it could cause hip dysplasia and bone
  • 6. Censorship in Schools Essay Censorship in Schools There has recently been a renewed interest and passion in the issue of censorship. In the realm of the censorship of books in schools alone, several hundred cases have surfaced each year for nearly the past decade. Controversies over which books to include in the high school English curriculum present a clash of values between teachers, school systems, and parents over what is appropriate for and meaningful to students. It is important to strike a balance between English that is meaningful to students by relating to their lives and representing diversity and satisfying worries about the appropriateness of what is read. This burden often falls on teachers. The purpose of this research paper is to discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Censorship can take different shapes depending on the public school system: Schools can give teachers a list of acceptable books to teach, just provide guidelines, or leave it up to the teachers to judge which books are appropriate (Agee, 1999). Teachers are often very nervous about including texts that are not traditional or specifically approved by the school, especially because of the highly publicized cases of teachers whose careers have been ruined because of censorship debates in courts and school systems (Agee, 1999). First Amendment Rights Relating to the Censorship of Books Censorship cases often bring about debates over students first amendment rights. Students first amendment rights are important to preserve so that students can not be excluded from meaningful works or literature. It is understandable for the government to design educational plans as a way to get its voice into classrooms, but the truth promoting function of the First Amendment provides no reason, however, to question the right of students to explore a variety of ideas and perspectives, and to form and express ideas of their own (Brown, 1994, p. 30). Schools already place a restriction on religious material or material addressing current political controversy (Brown, 1994). Censors typically feel as though the subject material of controversial books in the high school English curriculum is too much for teenagers to handle (Shen, 2002).

The products were mainly cleansing bar soaps, creams, foams, all marketed for general skin care (not necessarily for acne specifically). Analysis: poor positioning considering market characteristics and distribution systems Clearasil s introduction in Japan was initially successful, but mostly because it had the first mover advantage. Being the first product to be adversities solely for acne treatment, Clearasil initiated the market in Japan. However, as local and international competitors entered the market, Clearasil s strategy showed to be inappropriate. Consequently its sales gradually decreased, never able to reach the initial levels. One of the issues was the decision to register Clearasil as a drug, and the functional 3 way advertising of the product. Neither of them was suitable given the cultural acceptance of acne in Japan. Due to that, Clearasil was perceived as too strong, only to be used in extremes cases, which limited its target market. Also, being registered as a drug limited the distribution system to only drugstores, and could be indicated by doctors or the drugstore staff since consumer patterns were directed by word of mouth. The decision to register Clearasil as drug in the Japanese market was not advantageous. Another issue was Nippon Vicks being associated with Colac (laxative product), which was not

Smart is recognized as an original poet and forerunner of the Romantics, best known is his loving itemization of the qualities of his cat, a classically Romantic appreciation of a being that rejoices in being itself and living for the day. Chatterton inspired Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Shelley because of his determination to seek his life in London although he was depressed and died at a young age. He was a product of youthful genius. Coleridge describes him as the marvelous Boy, the sleepless Soul that perished in his pride. Chatterton s early death is also said to be a Romantic foreshadowing of the early deaths of all three of the second generation of Romantic poets (King 13 15). Godwin was an atheist and believed humans could improve themselves without institutions or laws. His daughter was Mary Godwin, who married Percy Shelley. She wrote Frankenstein, which is known as a Gothic novel in Romanticism (King 16). The period also developed lyrical ballads, short poems that express personal
  • 9. European Expansion In The New World Essay Impacts of European expansion reached across the world and affected more than the expanding European powers and their colonies in the new world. Life in the world changed when these two cultures that were directly opposite of one another collided. Europe was filled with greed for resources and wealth, the Indigenous people living on these resources were living a simple sustainable life with next to no government or regulation. Once the new world was set up Europeans who ran these new territories called colonists today developed their own society and way of living and would end up revolting against the homeland. Europeans tried to recreate Europein America they forced native people to live their lives and created systems to exploit native people. Systems such as these were implemented in the New World to assert the dominance of Europe and allow the countries colonizing to take what they wanted. European expansion into the New World brought a lot of changes, motivated by boosting trade and economy, some countries failed to see the harm done in accomplishing it. It was the colliding of two worlds that were not ready to meet that suddenly and abruptly. Without the brave explorers and colonists however, America may have not been discovered, or noticed for many years. The New World gave the Old World something and vice versa it is obvious today one needs the other to survive and that is what we all strive
  • 10. Argumentative Synthesis Of The Simpsons, South Park, And... Argumentative Synthesis of The Simpsons, South Park, and Social Satire The question of immigration had been one of America s biggest issues since the 1500s. Mass immigration began in the late 1600s and became uncontrollable for the native population to control. In fact, many began to move west where opportunity existed. After the ratification of the Constitution in 1789, the question of immigrationdied down until the Irish and German immigration wave in the mid 19th century. Today, immigration is no longer a major issue, but illegal immigration is. All through the late 20th and early 21st century, many Latin Americans began to come to the US, undocumented. Media and government address the issue of illegal immigration in many different ways. The government is usually strongly against illegal immigration and some politicians make it the issue of their campaigns. The media, on the other hand, may vary in their views on the issue. South Park and The Simpsons both satirize the issue of illegal immigration in their own different way. South Park addressed the issue of illegal immigration in a rather peculiar way. In the South Park episode Goobacks, the producers show people from the future traveling to South Park and taking jobs for cheap. The statistics say that if one can come then many can and will as well. In Goobacks, the first time traveler appears and explains the situation of Earth in the future, how the economic, and environmental problems are way out of hand.

This shows that a polymer has small units called monomers in its chemical composition which are bound together to form a large molecule. Depending on the arrangement of different chains and how they are joined, polymers can be classified as: пѓ Thermoplastics пѓ Thermosets пѓ Elastomers 1.2 Types of Polymers replacing Metallic Components in Consumer Application: To make our lives considerably easier, home appliances use circuit control, safety devices and resistance lead. Use of polymer is increasing day by day due to the following reasons: пѓ Design freedom: it is very easy to mold polymers in any shape and form like injection molding and blow molding at a very low cost. Polymers can be treated with chemicals to bring out multiple properties in them which is not possible easily with metals. пѓ Performance: polymers have high benefits. They reduce the weight, resistant to chemical and impact, corrosion free, etc. the main reason for the use of polymers is the reduction in weight. пѓ Efficiency: due to metal replacement there is an increase in manufacturing efficiency as multiple individual components in a product can be brought together into a single component using

The Puritans were an English Protestant group in the late 16th and 17th century that believed God was the divine leader. With their strong beliefs and strict laws controlling their followers, the Puritans lived a simple life praising the lord to one day get into Heaven. In the Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthornea descendant of early Puritansettlers; a story is told based in a Puritan community following the life of Hester Prynne and her Puritan community around her. We see in this novel how the life of the Puritans are deposited. Another story that shows the Puritan life is The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving. He brought a new voice to literature by writing The Devil and Tom Walker a dark story with the devil. After reading these two stories we see how both authors showed the Puritan lifestyle in both. Also how Puritanism affects the characters in both stories and how each author had their own opinions on the Puritans. The authors show the life of the Puritans and their belief of heaven and hell through these chilling stories. Washington irving and Nathaniel Hawthorne show the Puritan lifestyle in both if their stories. They may have depicted the puritan lifestyle in similar different ways but overall Puritanism is shown through the stories. Religion was a substantial part of the puritan lifestyle and this is

According to Bankhalter, racism of European Jews was already occurring in Poland even before Hitler invaded, and their slogan was Jew get out of here and go to Palestine. He accounts of being beaten and spit on the school grounds on a daily basis, long before Hitler invaded. Bankhalter describes his journey to the ghetto as laced with barbed wire and Nazi mocking Jews cutting off men s beards and beating them as they yelled at the Jews to assemble. The Nazi s only gave them about twenty minutes to pack, leaving them time to only gather the necessities, which would only be stripped from them later. Anti-Trust Laws Essay Anti Trust Laws The anti trust movement in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s is a prime example of the conflict in society between autonomy and responsibility. Trust related issues tested the extent to which the government could allow businesses to maintain their autonomy and at the same time fulfill its responsibility to protect the right of the common worker. America was founded on the principles of free enterprise. Throughout its history, the United States government maintained a laissez faire or hands off policy in regard to regulation of business. The reason for this was that over a long distance they needed to cut rates to keep up with the competition from other railroad lines. When only traveling a short distance, there was most likely only one line that traveled the route and farmers were forced to pay whatever rate that particular railroad was charging. In order to get more business, railroads would also refund money to big business owners who used their lines. Such refunds were known as rebates. Since these businesses paid less to transport their goods, they could sell them at a cheaper rate than small business owners thus driving the small business owners out of business.2 Other practices used by big business included vertical integration, horizontal integration, trusts, interlocking directorates, and holding companies. Vertical integration occurred when one business controlled all industries involved in making a product from the raw materials to the finished consumer version. In a horizontally integrated industry all companies that produced a certain type of product consolidated to corner the market. 3 A trustwas controlled by a board of trustees that controlled the stock and voting privileges of a number of companies in the same industry.4 In an interlocking directorate, the same people sat on the board of directors for multiple

  • 22. Light In The Forest Johnny Tremain Analysis Compare and Contrast Essay Rough Draft The Light in the Forest, by Conrad Richter, and Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes, are two incredibly distinct novels, each with their own similarities and differences when compared to one another. True Son, the protagonist in Light in the Forest, is a fifteen year old boy raised by a tribe of Delaware Indians for the past eleven years of his life. Though he is biologically American, he wholeheartedly considers himself a full blooded Indian. This not only creates turmoil when he is forcibly moved to his biological white family but causes True Son confusion when he is forced to choose between not only his two families but his two other identities as well. On the other hand, Johnny Tremain, the protagonist in the novel Johnny Tremain, faces a completely different situation for he is a fourteen year old boy living in colonial Boston. He is at first entirely self centered and arrogant due to his prodigious gifts as a silversmith apprentice. However, when an unfortunate injury results in him having a crippled hand, this destroys any chance of him being an adequate silversmith. He faces humiliation but through many struggles and difficulties transforms into a patriotic man. Through analyzing the two novels, there were many similarities and differences found. Similarities include the difficult journey they both encounter as well as their similar behavior. On the contrary, both individuals differ through their race and how they were brought up. Both True Son and Johnny Tremain desire to stay in a comfortable setting. They greatly enjoy their life and make no wish to change it. And yet, both characters were forced to face hardships which ultimately changes both their situation as well as their perspectives in life. For instance, Johnny Tremain had a comfortable position in life. He was widely considered the most talented young silversmith in Boston. Though he was egotistic, he was destined for a bright future. Regrettably, when molten silver disfigured his hand he lost his chance at ever becoming a silversmith and can no longer find skilled work. Filled with self pity and despair, he almost turns to a life of crime. Only his friendships and new job with a Whig newspaper company

Although bean bags were shot rather than live ammunition, apparently the Colonel had given orders to aim at the head periodically (calling it an accident), especially when prisoners (or animals, as the Colonel called them often) were killed. This type of leadership is in line with Machiavelli s, pg. 4, assumed view of human nature in the prison, that human beings are essentially evil... as the prisoners/animals were evil. Also, I compared this accidental killing of prisoners in The Castle like the beginning of Sun Tzu. Sun Tzu killed the King s two favorite concubines because they failed to follow orders. Although with this method, it also is extremely taxing on the computer system to encrypt and decrypt the message. Which is one of the main reasons that private key encryption is still a thing to this day. The reason for this is the whole idea behind a public key cryptosystem. To be able to release the encryption key without revealing the private decryption key. For this to be achievable, much heavier mathematics is needed compared to a private key which you just need to tangle up the bits so that the private key is the only thing that can untangle the bits. With the known and used public key cryptosystems, they reach the necessary security, but at the cost of a very heavy computation cost. The issue continues with using up bandwidth as well. Anyone can use the public key, including an attacker. Which means that if all of your data is decrypted in the same way the attacker can run an exhaustive search on any encrypted data, even data they encrypted themselves, to crack your encryption. So any encrypted data that an attacker can get their hands on is still valuable and useable data to them. To keep the level of security we want, we need to add more randomness to the encryption. With extra randomness this will include a data size increase. Let s say you need a 1024 bit key to keep an increased element of randomness. This means you are

However, with forced new editions of textbooks, the prices are renewed, and used books are unavailable. Education is a great investment because it generally helps people to earn higher income which in return, will allow people to pay higher amounts of money in taxes. A great way the state of Tennessee can help reduce costs of textbooks is by removing sales tax on textbooks. Sure, 9.25% is not a very high percentage. However, 9.25% of $900 is roughly eighty four dollars. Eighty four dollars is enough to buy an additional textbook that could be used for another class. Regulations should be set in place to encourage companies to charge less for textbooks, and to slow down the high rate of textbook price inflation. Examples of regulations to be considered include the following: a required percentage of content changes and/or updates in new textbook editions, and taxing textbook publishers based on profit margins of textbooks. While the second regulation may seem extreme, with it, textbook publishers will be encouraged to keep profits low to avoid paying higher tax

  • 36. The Arctic Oil Drilling Industry Abstract The Arctic oil drilling industry can be seen as one of the most driven economic gains and a step ahead for the country to become energy independence. Nonetheless, the price that comes with this gold liquor has shifted the country s mission to harvest and provide a clean, eco friendly energy. The continuous drilling processes come with negative impacts towards the areas involved: in this case, The Chukchi Sea, The Beaufort Sea and The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge(ANWR). In order to sustain the oil drilling industry, the massive infrastructure development has been conducted on the areas listed above. From these development, the rate of carbon emission and acid level in the soil have increase; these pollutants are threat not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the industry promises a bright future for America to become energy independence, continuous request for lease extension contracts have been made to the government by the oil companies that see the major economic gain from the drilling activities. Compared to other alternative energy such as fracking, Arctic drilling possesses risky and dangerous threats. In this paper, I will present the arguments regarding the disruption of environments, the habitat for the wildlife in the Arctic and also the health consequences for the local people due to the demand from the oil drilling industry. From there, I would discuss why the government should shift the investments made for this industry to another industry that can provide a cleaner alternative energy. Environment and Habitats Quoting from the 34th President of United States, President Dwight D. Veterans came home to their sweethearts and many could not ease into the previous lives without thinking about war. Jobs and homes were not easy to come by, which is why the film The Best Years of Our Lives does a fantastic job of recreating the American society. The movie was filmed in 1946, thus making it realistic. The Best Years of Our Lives reflects the post war era because the American society was ready to move forward with their lives, but ex servicemen were having difficulty transitioning back into their past lives. This film follows three men named Al Stevenson, Fred Derry and Homer Parrish as they return to Boone City and back to the arms of their eager family. Like many veterans after the war, many were anxious and could not reconnect with their family and loved ones immediately due to the high intensity events they experienced back in Europe or in the Pacific. For example, Homer served on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific that sunk, which burned off his arms and left him with metal prosthetics; this made him feeling uncomfortable around his... In addition, Homer s prosthetics made him feel vulnerable, but his fiancee proved to him that love is more than what can be seen. Homer eventually married Wilma and Fred and Peggy ended up together. It was quite a happy film and I loved

Krishna and Rama as exemplars of Dharma Essay examples Dharma is knowledge prominently directed to the achievement of desired happiness here (i.e. in this life) and hereafter by means of appropriate actions . (Khan, Benjamin. The Concept of Dharma in Valmiki) Rama and Krishna have been set as perfect exemplars of Dharma in the texts of Ramayana and Mahabharata respectively. They are considered to be the reincarnations of God Visnu, a Supreme Being, and supposedly lived their lives according to the Dharmic (or right) way of life. However, the stories of Ramaand Krishna in the texts include some of their actions, which are questionable to the act of Dharma. He says that there must be a framework within a society, which is mutually agreed upon by the existing society. Dharma is embedded in that comprehensive framework which is to be followed by the society without asking any questions. It has already been mentioned that wherever conscious living beings congregate some classes are bound to take place, and the first and the most obvious way of preventing conflicts of interest in a community is for all its members to have the same aims, same interests, same desires, hopes and fears, in fact the same dispositions...Thus primitive ethics is deontological, a matter of rigid duties, taboos, customs, and commandment, the fixed and unalterable. Khan then expresses that Dharma unites the various castes in a society. He starts off with the fact that castes will always be formed within any society. He says that these different castes will have huge differences within the society but Dharma will unite these castes. He says that Dharma provides everyone with the same aims, desires, hopes and fears but also allows the different castes to have different roles in the society. Dharma, hence allows the different castes to practice their own duties without causing any conflict amongst them. Without conflict, a sustainable society can be upheld by following the rules of Dharma. Society succeeds because everyone follows the rules of Dharma. There would have been chaos everywhere if the society did not follow Dharma.

There are specifically two areas that either allows this unit to acclaim immunity and or reject immunity (Murphy, 305). The first area is known as jure imperii. Stories that are told to children by non Aboriginal individuals are usually meant for entertainment purposes and do not carry any deeper value, nor are they given any cultural or spiritual importance. For many Aboriginal groups, however, stories and songs have a much greater significance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... James Slotta writes, Chief Justice McEachern of the Supreme Court of British Columbia dismissed the plaintiffs claims to Aboriginal title, self government, and Aboriginal rights. Weighing the oral traditions they presented in support of their claim, he commented, If I do not accept their evidence it will seldom be because I think they are untruthful, but rather because I have a different view of what is fact and what is belief (Slotta, 138). In this scenario, the Judge believes that the stories, or any other information that the Indigenous people brought forward as proof of how important their land was to them, is in fact purely belief, and therefore, the people are rejected rights to their land. This is of great importance because the main difference between what the laws deems as evidence and belief impacts crucial decision making regarding the Aboriginal people s right to their land. In the Chief Justice opinion evidence is what is recorded, or written down, nothing otherwise. For this reason, Aboriginal peoples are directly losing their rights and indirectly losing their connection to their own traditions. This is why Oral Tradition still carries importance today: there are large amounts of people belonging to a spiritual group that rely

Some may say that Hester turning towards Dimmesdale during her time of seclusion constitutes love. Organizations could select one or more of these tests, but they have to be careful of the reliability and validity of all the results. Some results might be different depending on the environment of the testing area, or the relationship between the applicants and their previous employer/manager. Many organizations depend only on the result of the test without taking the reliability and validity into considerations, which that might lead to in hiring the wrong people. What is the difference between reliability and validity? Reliability is the consistency and the stability of a selection measurement and validity is the degree to which a measure predicts on the job performance (Green, 2003). For instance, the consistency of a test is made for to measure reliability and what kind of method to use to test the candidate is to measure validity. Since reliability and validity are both important aspects in the selection process, let s look at several methods that are used in today s industries. The Two-Track Mind Thinking critically, possessing a biopsychosocial approach and a two track mind, as well as exploring human strengths continuously emerge in psychology as the four main ideas. Critical thinking refers to inspecting any ideas given and not automatically believing those concepts. The biopsychosocial approach discusses human conduct and the perspectives of its examination. Those perspectives include biologically, psychologically, and socially. Every human shares a similar biology, but differences arise psychologically and socially. The latter two views differ due to one s experiences, social interactions, and the culture with which one identifies with. The two track mindrefers to the way the mind stores and sorts information. Correlation does not provide proof that one variable causes another because it merely predicts the likelihood of the relationship. Although two ideas can relate to each other, other factors can also produce those two original elements. For example, low self esteem could lead to depression, just as depression could lead to low self esteem. If a person learns from myth to live in this world as a whole person, she has a truth at least as functional as one taken from recorded history or documented fact. Billy Pritty in The Shipping News does not use recorded scientific methods to chart his way in the water, as one who studies history might. Rather he relies on oral tradition to keep his boat from hitting known sinkers. Enveloped in thick fog, Billy uses a rhyme from the time when people sailed without modern aides such as charts or lights: When the Knitting Pins you is abreast, Desperate Cove bears due west Behind the Pins you must steer Til The Old Man s Shoe does appear. The tickle lies just past the toe, It s narrow, you must slowly go. (175) The idea of finding one s path by way of myth or oral tradition is typically Canadian, since not all of Canada has been mapped from the ground. In many cases myth is more reliable than recorded history because its telling goes back farther in time, and thus it existed before documentation. It had power before the printing press inked history books. Further, the example of the Gammy Bird (a paper that prints fake advertisements and recycles wrecks to present them as new) as a spreader of information and truth proves that documented facts are not always to be believed. Dunstan Ramsay in Fifth Business argues that

Hayward et al. also used the Myanmar timber camp Elephas maximus to perform the research, looking at the records of 416 reproductive captive born mothers and their offspring. The elephants used were from 8 regions of the Myanmar timber camps with the youngest breeding being 5 years of age and the oldest being 53. The mean age at the first birth of offspring was 19.48 years with the maximum number of lifetime calves being 10 calves. Hayward et al. discovered that individuals who didn t produce calves before the age of 19 had lower calf survival than those who produced one or more calves before the age of 19. Although beginning reproduction earlier in life is correlated with a shorter lifespan, the cost is outweighed with higher annual breeding success as well as increased calf survival (Hayward et al). The investment of energy and resources into breeding at an early age increases the chance of calf survival but also results in shorter lifespans compared to those who begin reproduction later in life (Hayward et al.). Based on the findings, the costs of early life reproduction are offset by higher lifetime breeding success in younger elephants. The breeding success of younger elephants can be attributed not only to early reproduction, but also to older females in a herd. While Hayward et al. observes the effects of young
