2. Mid 1700 s Music Composers and the Operatic Reform
Essay
Beginning in the mid 1700s composers started to resist the changes that occurred in
opera. They began to resist: the preferential treatment that the divas and castrati
received, the excessive and replaceable arias and the melodic phrasing, and the
extreme vocal embellishments. Coming out of the opera seria where the focus
remained squarely on the divas, castrati, and where the da capo aria was the
standard form of the time Christoph Willibald Gluck was the leader of the Operatic
Reform. While Christoph Willibald Gluck and other composers of the time did not
abandon the da capo aria entirely, they began to modify it to more effectively to fit
the telling of a story. With the reform, operawas returned to expressing dramatic truth.

Also more formal structures became standard. One example of one of these formal
structures is the sonata form. The sonata form is one of the most common forms in
classical a music. This form is commonly used in the first movement of sonatas,
string quartets, symphonies and even concerts. It has three main sections which are
the exposition, development, and the recapitulation. One composer who used the
sonata form exclusively was Domenico Scarlatti. Scarlatti was one of the most
prominent keyboard composers of his time. The clavier sonatas of Domenico
Scarlatti form a separate and distinct species, written mostly in one movement, in
song form, and in homophonic style. An example of this is in Scarlatti s Sonata in D
Major. Scarlatti s sonatas represent a transitional type between the older and the
Viennese sonata
One of the most important composers of the early Symphony, Johann Stamitz
standardized the four movement plan of what would become the symphony. What
Johann brought to the music that was innovative was that he played with different
instrument timbres like flutes, oboes, brass instruments, and clarinet. Stamitz was the
first composer to use it consistently: well over half his symphonies and nine of his ten
orchestral trios are in four movements. He also contributed to the development of
sonata form, most often used in symphonic first movements but occasionally in
finales and even slow movements as well.

3. Summary Of The Chimney Sweeper And The Victorian
Childhood
The 18th century saw the development of children s literature as a category of its
own. The horrors of the Industrial Revolution made writing about children come to
life. William Blake s The Chimney Sweeper from the Book of Experience presents
children as unimportant and mistreated which influenced Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre
to introduce childhood experience from a child s perspective. The Romantic and
The Victorian Ages share common themes in their literature. Children were subject
to many diseases and hardships, they had little or no education, and they would
often go to work to help support their family. As we compare the similarities of
both works of literature we will see how the literary writings are a part of culture
and they signify the cultures and the eras they were created in. Let s begin with
William Blake s The Chimney Sweeper the poem begins
A little black thing among the snow,
Crying weep! weep! in notes of woe!
The speaker begins to portray an image in the readers mind, we question what is
this little black thing until the second line confirming that it is a child covered in
soot alone in the snow crying. This image seems to stick out since there a sharp
distinction between the black soot covered boy and beautiful sparkling snow he is
sitting in. That feeling of loneliness and abandonment is like how Jane Eyre felt as a
child. Her mother dies when she is young, and is forced to live with her abusive
Aunt. She is treated badly by her family. Continuing with Blake s poem the child is
asked where his parents are, the boy shows the hypocrisy by stating they are at
church praying while he is left in the snow.
Undeniably, the child is complaining about their irresponsibility because to work and
to gain money is the duty of the parents, not children. (Karakuzu, 2016). The next
few lines give us the boy s story he says
Because I was happy upon the heath,
And smiled among the winter s snow
They clothed me in the clothes of death,
And taught me to sing the notes of woe.?
The child talks about how he was happy at one point and had fun outdoors in the
winter snow until his parents dressed him the clothes if death and taught him to sing
sad songs. I believe he is referring to his clothing as
4. Breaking Bad Research Papers
I have developed an endless runner game for smartphones and tablets based on the
hit television show, Breaking Bad. Breaking Bad tells the story of Walter White, an
ordinary chemistry teacher who finds out that he has cancer and Jesse Pinkman, a
local street gangster who befriends Walter. Both Walter and Jesse decides to
produce methamphetamine in order for Walter to pay for his medical bills and
support his family. With the added advantage of Walter s knowledge in chemistry,
their product takes off and they both turn to a life of crime and encounter dangerous
events that changes their lives forever. They come across various psychopaths. A
mad drug lord named Tuco Salamanca, a no nonsense authoritarian like meth
distributor called Gustavo Fring and a white supremacist gang. As Walter White gets
into various criminal activities, he puts his life and his family s life in danger.
My concept for the game is a platform based endless runner for smartphones and
tablets, not to be confused for an endless runner in the third person perspective.
The game will have the two main characters playable at the start, Walter White and
Jesse Pinkman. As one progresses in game, they will be able to unlock other
characters such as Walter s brother in law Hank, Gustavo Fring, the iconic RV from
the show, Heisenberg (Walt s clandestine alias) and Saul Goodman, their lawyer
who uses unorthodox ways to get Walt and Jesse out of legal trouble. The reason I
decided to make only two playable

what is called the marketing environment. Businesses have to take into account their
competitors, as well as changes in the political, economic, social and technological
environment. The before mentioned factors must be taken into account as an

Demographic segmentation variables are among the most popular bases for 3
segmenting customer groups. The psychographic segment variables include people
with similar personalities, values, and lifestyles. The last of the segmentation bases of
the U.S. consumer markets would be behavioral segments. These are actions a person
takes in purchasing and using products and services. Some of these segment variables
include outlet type, direct, product features, usage rate, user status and awareness

group products to be sold into categories. One can then develop a market product grid
and estimate the size of the markets. A market product grid is a framework to relate
the market segments of potential buyers to products offered or potential marketing
actions by an organization. 3 Steps four and five consist of using the segmentation

Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people

What has become of our world? Look at the murder and violence in our streets and
the brutal sport of death bluntly referred to as Whaling . I m sure you re all fairly
familiar with the Japanese whaling vessels and those activists calling for legal action
against those savages. But, that isn t what concerns me today. What concerns me, is
the ordinary citizens who are currently unaware of this assault of whales by their
voracious Norwegian enemies. The Norwegian whale quota for this current year is

In this particular film adaptation of the novel Emma, the character Jane Austen
presents in the novel is the type of person who likes to meddle in other people s
lives. In this particular adaptation of Emma, Emma is portrayed through the
character Cher. Cher is also a meddler in other people s lives. This sets the film up
for an interesting and developing plot. Cher Horowitz illuminates EmmaWoodhouse
because they both exist in that precarious realm where lovable threatens to tip over
into loathsome, but doesn t. In the process of narrowly avoiding awfulness, both of
these princesses give us insight into ourselves, even if we don t resemble them at all.
Emma may be older than Cher, but she is an adolescent in most senses, a young
woman who has never left her father s side or her small neighborhood. She has free
rein at home but is also confined by her caretaker role, which she performs as Cher
does with her lawyer dad lovingly and without complaining. Yet Emma s protected
provincialism ensures she doesn t fully understand the larger world, and her own
role in it, particularly the potential of her power over men, over women, over her
neighbors. Just as Clueless, Tai actually has more real world chops than her self
appointed life coach, Cher Horowitz, most everyone in Austen s Highbury has seen
more of existence than Emma has but they defer to her because of this handsome,
clever and rich woman s social rank, charm, and beauty. The ensuing disconnect

12. One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Counterculture Analysis
One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest, a novel written by Ken Kesey is a product of the
counterculture movement. With the emerging of the Cold War and the suspicion of
Anti American non conformism, many Americans began to be plucked out of society
in order to preserve the American way. Ken Kesey being part of the generation to
challenge these beliefs created this novel as to form a bridge between the movements
of the 1950s and the counterculture movements of the 1960s. He is against
conformity and societies oppressive rules and he illustrates this through a character
named McMurphy who is constantly in conflict with authority and its rules. The
narrator Chief Bromden also gives light to this sense of a repressive environment

13. Literary Devices In Easter 1916
W.B. Yeat s poem, Easter 1916, details the speaker s feelings of Nationalism and
heartache as he remembers those that he lost in the Easter Rising. As the speaker
reflects on the time before the rising, he remembers not only how his life has
changed but also how his friends and companions had transformed both in their
character and in their state of being. The speaker uses metaphors to visualize the
unchanging goal of Irish freedom and the coming of nights that bring about death
and heartache. In this analysis, I will be focusing on the first and last stanzas of the
poem. By comparing these two stanzas I will reflect on the literary devices used, as
well as the differences of the speaker s visuals from the beginning and end. Overall,
the speaker... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker ends the stanza with But lived where motley is worn / All changed,
changed utterly: / A terrible beauty is born (Yeats 15 17). The literal meaning of
this stanza is that the speaker of the poem and the people he acquainted himself
with lived and wore motley or patched clothing a jester wears. The metaphorical
meaning of this is that motley is the vehicle for the tenor of life, meaning that it
was comical in the fact that it had little substance or value. This changed when the
terrible beauty was born. To describe beauty as terrible is an oxymoron, which can
be interpreted as the discordance between these two words and what they mean.
Within the context of the poem, the terrible beauty could be the goal of Irish
freedom and Irish men and women willing to fight and die for their country. Just as
love can cause pain, the beauty that is formed through Nationalism and loyalty to
their country can cause suffering to its people. The beauty can also be taken as the
value that was gained from fighting for what they believed in compared to living
meaningless lives before the war. The terrible aspect to this is that people had to die
in order for life to have meaning for

Little miss sunshine
Life to me is a journey you never know where it may lead you! I have chosen to
watch and research on the film little miss sunshine as I believe it is a great example
of journeys. The film Little Miss Sunshine, directed by Jonathon Dayton and Valerie
Faris, is about a dysfunctional family that take a road trip to a beauty contest. Along
the way to the little miss sunshine pageant, the family must deal with crushed dreams,
heart breaks, and a broken down Volks Wagon bus, leading up to the Surreal Little

There are many techniques used in this film. Firstly the directors and their team
use a variety of different camera techniques to shape our view on the characters,
and ultimately change our view in the world. In the opening sequence each
character is introduced using different camera shots. For example Olive s father is
first projected to the audience as a success. There is a sequence of close ups and
mid ranged shots which show Richard confidently speaking in a spotlight at the
front of the room. However the cinematic team then use a cut to a point of view
shot of what Richard sees when he has finished talking, which allows us to then see
how much of a failure he really is, as there is only five, half asleep, bored people in
the room and only one person applauds Richards work. This first sequence allows
us to see that Richard acts and feels like a winner to himself, but when he is seen
with the rest of the world he is a failure and a loser. The directors have used this
sequence to shape our understanding of winning and losing as it employs the idea
that winning and losing is based on comparing yourself to the rest of the world,
instead of being on how you feel and view yourself.
Another technique used is the music used in the film. The soundtrack for Little Miss
Sunshine is a mix of indie rock and folk music that fits the scenes and overall

During the digital age, the internet becomes more and more popular. Conversely, the
circulation and the advertising revenues of newspapers are vanishing duo to the
emergence of internet and audience migration. When most of the news organizations
are struggling in digital age, there is a new form of newsmedia growing up on the
web that is BuzzFeed. This essay will firstly point out the analysis of this news
source and then discuss the influence and contribution of BuzzFeed in the public
sphere. BuzzFeed is a rapidly growing social news and entertaining website, which
founded in 2006 by Jonah Peretti (BuzzFeed, n.d.). The majority of audiences are

For substantive content, BuzzFeed offer in depth coverage in some issues
(BuzzFeed, n.d.). In other words, the hard news which is similar to the traditional
news coverage is covered in BuzzFeed.
Unlike other traditional media companies revenue model, BuzzFeed provides
advertorial or social advertising, but not banner ads. Advertorial is advertising
which format is similar to editorial (Moore, 2013). BuzzFeed creative team will
work with the advertisers to make advertising sharable and attract the readers
attention to read through the ads rather than skim through the ads (Moore, 2013). As
matter of fact, Peretti (as cited in Hagey, 2012) makes sure that BuzzFeed refuses
traditional banner ads and he believes advertorial is better form of advertising
because readers a more willing to pay attention on this rather than the banner ads.
Furthermore, readers may even share the ads on the internet to even broader audience.
Indeed, about 40% additional advertising views were gotten from the sharing
because people are more interest in what friends recommended to them (Hagey,
2012). It is also the principle why stories in BuzzFeed can spread out as fast as
viral . In 2013, almost all of the revenues of BuzzFeed are generated by social
advertising (Moore, 2013) and according to Peretti (2013), BuzzFeed is now making
profit thought the investment has not been recovered.
As a result, as mentioned above, it showed that BuzzFeed is a successful new media
16. Evidence of Evolution in Fossil Records and the Process of...
The fossil record can show evidence for evolution, by relative dating, and
radioactive dating we can find evidence for evolution. Relative dating is the
process of finding out the age of a fossil by comparing it to other fossils/rocks.
This process helps us determine how old certain specific fossils are by comparing
them to other fossils; comparing older ancestor fossils helps us see the physical
evolutionary change as time goes on, index fossils are used to determine the age
of the fossil. Radioactive dating is another way we can see evolutionary change,
this process involves obtaining the fossil and burning a small piece of the fossil,
and obtaining/collecting all of the heat/radiation that is emitted from that fossil
which is collected by a radiation counter; then the carbon 14 or carbon 12 that is left
in fossil will be used; this then helps determine the half life of the fossil, which
eventually helps us find out how old the fossil really is. Both these different methods
that scientists use to determine fossil age shows us/helps us compare and find the
age out our ancestors. Shows us how old the fossils are, helps us compare fossil
records and see the change that is present/occurs throughout time. Comparative
anatomy is another example of evolution, homologous structures, and analogous
structures are both examples of evolution. A homologous structure is any structure
that is similar in any way, but has a different overall function. Analogous structure are
structures
17. Transgenerational Epigenetics
To understand epigenetics and transgenerational epigenetics in greater detail we need
to obtain a clearer picture of the underlying molecular mechanisms. Lim and Brunet
(2013) revealed that environmental stimuli can influence the chromatin structure by
noncoding RNAs including siRNA (small interfering RNA, worm), piRNA ((Piwi
interacting RNA, worm and fly), viRNA (small interfering RNAs derived from
virus, worm), miRNA (micro RNA, mice) DNAmethylation (mice, rat) and histone
modification (with the help of Histone methyltransferase poteins) H3K4me2/3
(worm), H3K36me3 (worm), H3K36me3 (worm, fly), H3K9me2/3 (worm, fly),
H3K27me3 (mice, human). Prion proteins might also play role (yeast). These
changes might influence the metabolics, which changes the expression of different
chemicals and are themselves potential environmental stress factors; thus, they could
initiate epigenomic changes. Chromatin modifications... Show more content on

This would be a mechanism for active transgenerational epigenetics progression.
However, we cannot deny the recent data. Transgenerational epigenetics might be
mainly passive as a result from the incomplete erasure of epigenetic marks through
the development stages. As mentioned, evidence has been limited mainly to the F2
generation, only some reports have shown transgenerational epigenetics reaching the
F3 and F4 generations; therefore, a strong positive feedback loop seems to be absent.
If, however, epigenetics are a test bed during evolution an intersection will exist.
Either the new trait is beneficially, then the trait will be included in the genome and
transformed to a hard inheritance or the new trait is non beneficial because the biotic
or abiotic stress is dissipating, then the soft inheritance will fade
18. The Importance Of Organ Donation
A girl named Ali was born with a liver defect called Progressive Familial
Intrahepatic Cholestasis. It wasn t until she was nine that she was actually
diagnosed and the prognosis was clear Ali s disease would get progressively worse
and she would die without a liver transplant. After a six month wait and one false
alarm, they got the call. A thirteen year old girl had died and the liver was a match
for Ali. The transplant was a success and the results almost instantaneously. When I
woke I remembered immediately noticing that my skin and eyes were no longer
yellow, and I didn t itch at all. It was amazing, says Ali. Today, Ali is a healthy
twenty year old junior college student double majoring in art and geography (How
Ali Received A New Liver). Ali s story was only 1 in 116,000 other patient
transplant stories. Ali had to wait six months to receive her much needed organ
because there is an organ shortage occurring and the only way to stop the shortage
is to increase the number of organ donors, living or deceased. A few ways to
increase the amount of organ donors is to financially compensate the organ donor
or the organ donor s family for funerals, offer Medicare coverage, and reimburse
the donor of cost during the donation process. Just one donor can save the lives of
eight people and change the lives of more than fifty people. The need for organ
transplants continues to exceed the supply of organs which is resulting in the
current organ shortage. An estimated 170,000 patients in the U.S. are on waiting
list for transplants. With such a large waiting list, a large number of patients have
set out to recruit their own donors; whether it is through a website or an
underground market. The U.S. banned organ sales two decades ago resulting in
the underground sale of organs. People have discovered the value of their own
organs and have been taking advantage of it. For example, there has been a case
where a South Korean man used his kidney as collateral for a loan. With such a
large need for organs; the government needs to think of a method to attract more
organ donors. One of the major suggestion is to financially compensate organ donors
as an incentive to entice more people to donate; whether it is a living

The Dark Knight A Power Struggle
Batman, a name synonymous with the word hero. He was first introduced to the
world in Detective Comics #27 (artist Bob Kane, writer Bill Finger, 1939). He
quickly became a fan favourite and has since then seen numerous film, television, and
video game adaptations. The first film adaptation being Batman (Lambert Hillyer,
1943), a mere 4 years after his introduction in 1939. Throughout his tenured career
Batman has faced numerous villains, each of them reinforcing the themes of evil vs
good, power, and anarchy vs order. The themes are especially prevalent when
Batman faces off against his arch rival, and foil, the Joker. In The Dark Knight
(Christopher Nolan, 2008) these themes are perfectly encapsulated in the Joker
interrogation scene. Almost an hour and half into the film is when the
interrogation scene takes place. The scene lasts for approximately five minutes
and is comprised of 79 cuts. In a way, the scene almost has three acts. It starts off
with the Joker s perspective of Commissioner Gordon entering the room to begin
his interrogation of the Joker. The Joker is framed to the right, while Gordon is
framed to the left. From the very first shot of the scene, the theme of power is
presented. The over the shoulder shot, combined with a slight dolly in, conveys to
the audience that Joker is the one in control. As Gordon walks up we see that the
Joker is completely shrouded in darkness, with only his face being visible. This

In a similar case in Lakewood, Ohio, the Saleets were about to have their home,
along with their neighbors homes, taken to build new higher end condominiums.
The mayor of the city had pressed for the new development as a way to strengthen
the tax base. In the end, the Lakewood residents were able to reject the proposed
development, remove the blight label from their neighborhood and also voted the
mayor out (Leung, 2009). Yes, the new resort would create jobs to manage the
resort, and increase the city s income and taxes, however, the area does not qualify
as one that requires this sort of enhancement. As stated in the Institute For Justice
(2013) website The justification the City had offered for the takings was that a new
development would create more jobs and taxes, but keep this in mind: anyone s
home or small business would generate more taxes as a shopping mall. If that can
justify such takings, then literally no home or business would be safe from this kind
of abuse at the hands of government (para.3). Should Barney be unable to win the
opportunity to keep his home, fighting at least gives the chance to help get the best
available amount for what qualifies as full market value.
Issue #3 Auto theft gone wrong

into an old girlfriend. He invites her to a fancy restaurant for dinner despite their
casual attire. As Barney pulls up, he hands the keys over to

22. The Concepts Of Human Psychology
With each choice you take, each judgment you make, there is a conflict in your
psyche; a fight amongst instinct and rationale. Moreover, the instinctive piece of
your brain is significantly more intense than you may might suspect. The vast
majority of us get a kick out of the chance to believe that we are equipped for settling
on sound choices. We may on occasion depend on our gut nature, however in the
event that essential we can approach our forces of motivation to touch base at a
consistent choice. Usually, we surmise that we have purposes behind what we trust,
that is frequently a misstep.
Prof Daniel Kahneman, from Princeton University, began an inquiry in our
comprehension of the human personality. It s a deep quest and ... Show more content

This quick state of mind is staggeringly effective, yet completely covered up. It is
so intense, it is really in charge of the vast majority of the things that you say, do,
think and accept. We are constrained, we are not immaculate, we are nonsensical in
a wide range of ways but then you have no clue this is going on. This framework is
your concealed auto pilot, and it has its very own brain. It is sometimes known as the
outsider inside. More often than not, our quick, instinctive personality is in charge,
proficiently assuming responsibility of the considerable number of thousands of
choices we make every day. The issue comes when we permit our quick, instinctive
framework to settle on choices that we should disregard to our moderate, consistent
framework. This is the place the oversights sneak in.
Our reasoning is loaded with efficient errors referred to clinicians as intellectual
predispositions and they influence all that we do. They make us spend incautiously,
be excessively impacted by what other individuals think. They influence our
convictions, our sentiments, and our choices, and we have no clue it is going on. It
might appear to be difficult to accept, yet that is on the grounds that your intelligent,
moderate personality is an ace at imagining a main story. The majority of the
convictions or suppositions you have originated from a programmed reaction. In any

Broadheads Broadheads are one or more blades attached to one of the ends of and

called tips or arrowheads. They have been used for hunting recreation and
sometimes war. The main use of today are broadheads for hunting and recreation.
Over 2000 years ago, broadheads were used for hunting and battles (or

shooting, or just for fun. Broadheads are attached to the shaft of a arrow.
Archery is the act of propelling arrows using a bow. Archery can also be a sport, to

The part of the arrow that is long and straight is called the shaft. Arrows are made
out of mainly three different materials now a days. They are wood, carbon, and
aluminum. Carbon has just started being used regularly because of its lighter type
of ore, making it faster than aluminum. The carbon arrows are lighter because it is
first cut into shreds of carbon with a machine. After that all the shreds of carbon are
compressed so hard for strength and durability.Aluminum has been used for almost
fifty to sixty years. Wooded type arrows have been used since 2800 BC, in Egypt,

By random, a reference librarian was interviewed using either technique by an
interviewer trained in both.
The dependent variables: (1) the number of events elicited per each interview
(efficiency), and (2) the degree of completeness of details recalled per event
(effectiveness) were examined.
Cognitive interview was found to be both more effective and more efficient than
standard interviewing techniques in eliciting episodic knowledge from reference
librarians. In order for the cognitive interview to be considered an effective
interviewing technique, more than one rater must determine that the degree of
completeness of details of the events collected under the CI are higher than those
collected under the SI.
All interviews were conducted in private rooms individually. The interviews were
conducted at the institute of each patron. Ten students enrolled in a senior level
expert system class who received training on the SI and the CI during regularly
scheduled class time. No one involved knew of the details of the experiment or the
types of techniques being tested. Interviewers received course credit and monetary
compensation for their participation.
The interview has long been part of the systems professional s repertoire of
elicitation tools, used extensively in both requirements analysis and knowledge
acquisition. It is said that there are some drawbacks associated with the use of
interviews. Open interviews are seen as
25. Fashion Trends And The Fashion Industry
According to Scratchhard.com, the fashion industry generates an average of $20
billion each year. Fashion designers are the heart of the fashion world. The fashion
industry has grown to popularity by dominating the worldwide economy, media,
workplace, and everyday life. Clothing trends have changed over the last century due
to historical events and the evolution of technology. With the gift of creativity and
skill of constructing clothing, fashiondesigners complete a degree in designing,
research past trends, predict future trends, sketch ideas, and oversee production of
their designs. Fashion designers translate their ideas into clothing to sell. The first
step of designing is researching current fashion trends and predicting future trends.
Trends determine the success of the fashion industry. Designers normally choose a
speciality to design, such as swimwear, bridal wear, children s clothing, footwear,
and men s wear. Sketching the original design is the next important step of the
design process. Computer Aided Designs are the modern method of sketching. Next,
fabric and embellishments are chosen to correspond with the designer s vision.
Creating custom printed fabric and custom dyeing fabric is common for designers.
Most designers work for large companies which provide the designer with a sewing
team. Large apparel companies usually consist of a team of designers headed by a
creative manager. Communicating ideas to the sewing team and giving them specific
instructions

During my class in Curriculum, Methods, and Assessments: Science and Math, I
have had the opportunity to observe two different mathematic teachers. Through
those observations I have gained great knowledge and understanding. I was exposed
to different teaching, learning styles and techniques. Being able to observe a few
different classrooms has given me an opportunity to witness different aspects of
teaching. Through all of my observations during college of teachers I am confident
that teaching is what I want to do with the rest of my life. I will touch on a few
topics from my observationthroughout my paper such as, the objective of the lesson,
types of methods the teachers used, differentiation instruction, ways the teachers
assess learning in the classroom and changes that I could make to the lesson.
For my observations at Metzger Middle School, I had the opportunity to observe Ms.
Williams and Ms. James sixth grade Mathematics classrooms. During Ms. Williams
first period she had a Co Teacher to assist her students that were ESLs (1 student) and
IEP/504 (5 students). A student that was in a wheelchair was also amongst the
students; accommodations were made for this student, for example; the co teacher
had the student that was sitting in the first chair by the door move back a desk so
that the student could put his chair up the desk. Some of the methods that the teacher
provided were mathematical reference sheets and formula charts to help them when

taken place in Thebes near Athens. The story itself though is written around 441

Athens due to them not being able to have their plays set in Athens. The front of the

irony that both Antigones mother and brother both had fatal incidents here, so it
would only be fitting for Antigone to receive her own tragic fate there as well.

28. Australian Federalism
An appropriate recommendation for reform cannot occur without an understanding of
the operation of federalism and its strengths and weaknesses in the Australian context.
In considering this, the suitability of a federal system to the Australian environment
both socially and geographically firstly warrants acknowledgment. In a final report to
the Council for the Australian Federation, it was said that Australia s large land mass,
remote locations, disparate regional areas and localised preferences mean that a
federal system of government is suited to the Australian context. It is important to
note that one of the key motivations behind the introduction of federalismto Australia
was securing the independence of states and autonomy in legislating.... Show more

The overlapping and duplication of policy responsibilities across governments, and
these issues that emanate from such disorganisation in the division and distribution
of powers, evinces the reality that federalism s flaws lie in its application, not its
principles. While the limitations outlined above clearly convey a need for reform, it
is for this reason that any suggestion of upheaval of a system that has the potential to
enable a geographically large and diverse country such as Australia to maintain
national unity and meet the pressures of globalisation while at the same time
accommodating regional difference should not be adopted without consideration of
smaller scale reform that can improve its operation. The limitations outlined above
will thus serve as criteria for analysing the aptness of Option 2, as presented in the
Terms of Reference, as the most viable proposal for federal

but the most common ones people know about are Insomnia, Sleep apnea, night

night and so their breathing changes or stop to adjust to new stage, with sleep apnea
they stop breathing for longer period than necessary. After time affects them in a
negative way and takes a toll on their body.
The third sleep disorder, Night terrors are deep episodes that seem to produce terror,
although any terrifying mental experience (such as a dream) is usually forgotten
on awakening (pg. 343). Night terrors are uncommon, and only affect a small
percentage of children between the ages of four and twelve. This percentage is
even smaller for adults. Most children grow out of night terrors by the time they are
adolescents to adults. But it still brings up concern because with night terrors
comes the behaviors like walking in your sleep, punching, kicking and choking
someone you love. Once woken, the sleepers will have no recollection of what they
were scared about. Occasionally some adults may be able to remember bits and
pieces of their terror. Most night terrors come about if a person had something tragic
happen to them sometime throughout their life. For instance if a child was beaten
repetitively or sexually assaulted, they are more prone to night terrors.
The last common sleep disorder is, Narcolepsy which is a disorder of REM sleep,
involving sleep onset REM periods and sudden daytime
30. Essay about Joan Of Arc
Joan of Arc
Joan of Arc, first known as Jeanne d Arc, was born in the village of Domremy, in
the Champagne district of northeastern France. She was born on January 6, 1412
and died May 30,1431 at the age of 19. Joan is a French national heroin and a saint
of the Roman Catholic Church. She rescued France from defeat during the Hundred
Years War against England. In honor of her victory she is often called the Maid of
Orleans. This is a story of her life.
Joan was not a well educated woman. She had never learned to read or write but was
skilled in sewing and spinning. Her deeply religious mother and father, Isabelle and
Jacques d Arc raised her. Joan s father was a small peasantfarmer, poor but not needy.

He tested Joan at first. Charles let one of his nobles pretend to be king and sit in

doubtful Charles was not convinced she was worthy. That was until she told him
exactly what he prayed to God for. He was astonished and realized now that Joan
had unusual powers. Though at the time people thought of such powers as work of
the devil, members of the clergy accepted her beliefs anyway. Joan was given a suit
of white armor, a banner, and the command of troops.
In April of 1429 Joan and her army set out to rescue Orleans from English control. At
first the French commanders hesitated to obey her orders but eventually listened to
her. Ten days after she arrived in Orleans, April 28 May 8, Joan s forces broke the
Siege of Orleans and the English ran off. After her tremendous victory she wanted
Charles to receive a proper ceremony to crown him as king, this is called
coronation. Joan led Charles and his military through enemy territory as her troops
defeated English in more than one battle along their journey. They proudly entered
Reims with triumph as Joan stood at the side of Charles. He was crowned King of
France on July 17, 1429.
Shortly afterwards Joan wanted to free Paris of English control. Charles doubted her
success at first, but he

income and education and who work at jobs that are roughly comparable in
prestige. Social class is related to the families documented in the real slum dogs
film because they are all in the same social class. All of the members are workers in
the slum of Dharavi, India. While a few people may own businesses and larger
means of production, most of the people who work in the slums make roughly the
same income. The families in the slums work hard to make money to help support
their family s life. Parents work hard to be able to pay for children to attend good
schools. They also push children to get a good education and to focus on their
studies. Parents have to try hard to put food on the table and to improve living
conditions when it is possible. The people who live in Dharavi shown in this video
are part of a low social class where living conditions are very poor. There is garbage
all over the place, shared public bathrooms that go between many families so,
sanitation is not a very good. Families also are forced to share the taps for running
water, which only run for a certain period of time each day making it harder to get
clean water to cook, drink and bathe. Jobs in the slum do not require high levels of
education and ability. One job is recycling or picking which is sorting through trash
and separating colored plastic and other useful things into piles, bagging them and
then sending them to
32. The Potential Influences Of Attitude And Attitude Change
Attitudes are conceptualised as stable entities or temporary constructions (Bohner and
Dickel, 2011). The following article moves on to describe in greater detail the
potential influences of attitude and attitude change with the aim of highlighting
possible reasoning behind these. Furthermore, to define a particular attitudeas a stable
entity is to suggest that one s attitude is derived from a preconceived idea or memory.
To the contrary, a temporary construction is to construct an attitude in an instant
following a particular event or stimulus. Whilst Visser and Mirabile (2004) claim that
attitudes are a stable entity, and in contrast Shwarz (2007) believes attitudes are a
temporary construction, Eagly and Chaiken (2007) take a moderate stance by
defining attitudes as a psychological tendency, expressed by evaluating a particular
entity with some degree of favour or disfavour. To further investigate attitude change,
the topic used as stimulus for this study is cannabis use. Cannabis use is
progressively developing a controversial reputation in todays society. Research has
shown that on one hand, some of the strongest evidence for marijuana s therapeutic
potential derives from treating long term illnesses such as multiple sclerosis by
providing highly reported pain relief (Kmietowicz, 2005). On the other, frequent
cannabis use predicts later depression and anxiety (Moore et al., 2007), and poses an
increased risk of psychosis and schizophrenia (Kmietowicz, 2005).

The short stories A Rose for Emily and The Story of an Hour are about two women
with some similarities and differences. These two women have comparable ideas
and they also live in the same society. In this time period they live in a world that
was decrepit, and very controlling, and they had to show a great deal of respect to the
men of the household. In this time period the womans expectations were to clean,
cook, and take care of the children and whatever else chores they had to accomplish.
Louise character tries to display happinessthroughout the story about being free and
triumphant, but Emily is the complete opposite. The author, Kate Chopin focuses
more on the freedom a woman does not have, and author Faulkner s main purpose is
to show what a woman would go through to keep herself happy. First, Emily and
Louise share many of the same characteristics on how much love meant to them.
Although, Emily found a deceptive way to keep a man around and Louise prepared
herself for being free. This meant that the idea of having a man throughout both
stories was important to both Emily and Louise. In the meantime, Emily and Louise
share more qualities throughout the story. In the beginning of each short story, it is
shown that death has occurred and how sorrow came over them. For example,
Louise is not happy because she was a housewife who was controlled by her
husband, but as soon as she heard the news that her husband died, it brought extreme
grief to her, it was so
34. Music During The Baroque Era
Music during the Baroque era was regarded as a powerful form of communication
that could invoke emotions in the listeners. This philosophical belief was derived
from a revival of the ideas of the Greco Roman culture, and as a result, composers
believed that they could also affect their listeners through the power of melody,
harmony, rhythm, and stylistic details. The emphasis on communication was
reflected in the major styles and components that were used throughout Baroque
compositions. Baroque musicis characterized by the composers attention to detail,
such as contrast in dynamics, ornamentation, and the emphasis on bass line. These
characteristics of the Baroque era are reflected in Antonio Vivaldi s compositions.
Known as one of the most popular pieces in Baroque repertoire, Vivaldi s The Four
Seasons, a violin concerto, reveals how composers of the Baroque period used
different techniques to invoke emotion through the powerful communication of
music. The Four Seasons perfectly represents the Baroque period because of Vivaldi s
elaborate style, developmental techniques, and theme of emotional impact and
contrast. During the Baroque period, composers tried to convey emotions through
contrasts in tonality, idiomatic writing, and ornamentation. The Columbia Electronic
Encyclopedia stated that the baroque period was one of stylistic duality, and it was
an era that displayed emotional extremes. Major and minor tonality surfaced, as well
as idiomatic writing ( Baroque, In

The Progressive Era began in the year 1890 through 1920; During this time many
things in the country were evolving such as Social Justice, Government Efficiency,

and standing up for what she believed in was described as being bold as a lion (20

government and society assist with the impoverished. Adams established the Hull

movement that is know as the Settlement House Movement. The purpose of the Hull
House as stated in its character was to provide a center for a higher civic and social

Jane Adams was mainly known for her work in the Hull House and being the
mother of social work , she also caused many reforms that affected the entity of the
way the United States went about reforming. Jane Addams revolutionized many

37. Freedom Of Religion And Religion
Our country s founders who were of different religious backgrounds themselves knew
the best way to protect religious liberty was to keep the government out of religion.
So they created the First Amendment to guarantee the separation of church and state.
This fundamental freedom is a major reason why the U.S. has managed to avoid a lot
of the religious conflicts that have torn so many other nations apart (n.d.). The
American Constitution refers to religious freedom as being able to practice the
religionof your choice without it being forced upon you. Either individuals chose
what religion to practice or they practice no religion at all. Like all things there
will always be some sort of controversy. Freedom of religion has both positive and
negative impacts. A positive impact of religious freedom is the fact that individuals
have a choice. We have the freedom to practice whichever religion we chose. On the
other hand, we have the choice to not practice any religion. A negative impact is; it
allows people to avoid taking responsibility for their actions by justifying their
misconduct with the religion they practice.
The United States is the most religiously diverse country in the world. In no other
nation can you find as many varied religious groups, beliefs and practices as there are
here. The Founders recognized in their own times the great theological differences
among not only different religions but also among the many Protestant sects (Knief,
2011). An important

accounting information. Direct Costs, Indirect Costs and Overhead/Absorbed Costs
are usually what are measured in Cost Accounting. This information is then used by
managers when decisions are made dealing with company costs and how to improve

Service contracts are easy to work with as long as the current provider or new

I attended the Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble directed by Alex Parker
on Tuesday, November 10th. This ensemble consisted of saxes, trombones,
trumpets, drums, a piano, and bass. The concert showcased many individual
talents by including solo s or duet s in every song. The program consisted of seven
songs with no intermission. The pieces I selected were Big Dipper by Thad Jones
and Undecided by Frank Mantooth. The composition Big Dipper by Thad Jones
consisted of a duet by Hunter Horby playing the tenor sax and Ryan McArthur
playing the trumpet. The tone of the piece was in major. It had a happy feel to it
and made you want to get up and dance. It was moderato in tempo, meaning it was
an average pace of beats. It kicked off with a quick crescendo from mezzo piano, or
medium soft, to forte, or loud. The tenor sax and the trumpet had the melody and the
rest of the instruments were the background musicfor most of the piece however, the
rest of the ensemble had their time to shine with the melody a couple of times. I felt
as if I was in the 1950 s listening to swing music and jazz. The texture felt dancelike
and brassy. Jones incorporated many accents and staccato markings throughout the
composition. The song had many contrasts with pitches and dynamics. Most of the
crescendo s and decrescendo s seemed to be directly related to the amount of
instruments being played. If there was just one instrument playing and they started to
increase in volume, the other

The Logistics department in the United States Marine Corps is comprised of essential
components that contribute to the success of the entire organization. The success of
the department is dependent upon the productivity of each employee. Performance

employee s level of productivity and overall job satisfaction.
Logistics Department
Major Components
In the United States Marine Corps, the Logistics department is an essential
component of the organization. The logistics department handles embarkation,
supply and weapons management, maintenance of equipment, health services
support, transportation, and ammunition (S 4, n.d.). Within the Logistics department,
every employee has a unique title and job description. The junior employees may
have one or two other coworkers with their same title and set of responsibilities.
Self Management
The unique responsibilities that every employee has require a great deal of
competence and autonomy in the field. Employees are expected to carry out their
duties and send an update at the end of each working day. When it comes to daily
tasks such as updating inventory records, dispatching vehicles, or training
subordinates, self management is allowed. Autonomy helps to fulfill basic human
needs and increases job satisfaction. However, in the military, many processes and
decisions require the utilization of the chain of command. For example, if an

A tornado is a violently rotating wind that is followed by a funnel shaped cloud of
debris that moves in a narrow path over a body of land. Tornadoes are formed by
warm, wet winds and cold, dry air meeting from opposite directions, also known as
wind shear. then the air mixes together and starts forming a funnel of wind, pulling
clouds with it. Eventually, the funnel shaped cloud touches down onto a large piece
of flat land (e.g. a plain). For example, in the United States, tornadoes form in the
spring and summer time because that is when the warm winds of the Gulf of Mexico
travel north, and the cold airs of Canada travel south, eventually meeting in the
central lands of the United States because the land is very flat there. It wouldn t...

beneficial to the overall message of the book because even though the authors
never brought up race, the people who were interviewed brought it up on their own
volition, which consequently brought the issue of race along for the ride in the
entirety of the book without the authors never having to explicitly say, because
