What Role Does Lucia Play In Mad Forest
The UNCW theatre department s production of Mad Forest had many great actors and actresses
involved. Lucia, played by Taylor England, and Toma, played by Tony Choufani, were the two
characters and actors that stood out to me the most. I believe both of the actors did amazing jobs with
their character, and both must have been very difficult roles to pull off.
Taylor England playing the role of Lucia was very intriguing to watch. Her facial expressions alone
made her a great actress for the role of Lucia in my opinion. Even when she was not the main focus of
a scene, she continued to stay in character and the seriousness that came with a majority of the play.
Taking acting for non majors has made me realize how much more difficult it is to not

O35 Induction
O35 Manage induction in health and social care or children and young people s settings
1.1
Explain why induction is important for practitioners, individual and settings.
Induction process is very valuable and of great importance for any early year practitioner, individual
or organization. In my opinion this is an ongoing process starting from the advertisement.
a) For practitioners:
The process of Induction is important for the Early birds in the nest so as to help them integrate into
their roles in the organization quickly and effectively. They should be familiarized with the campus
first. Like cafeteria, restrooms, classrooms, emergency exits etc. After that introduction with her new

The leader is responsible for selecting mentors for the induction process from the staff depending
upon the requirements of the induction process. The mentors should have the skills, expertise and
knowledge to coordinate the induction effectively. The observations and notes taken from the
induction process states where the new staff is standing and now what skills and abilities should be
focused for further development.
Thus the progression should continue to give the new staff a chance to enhance their qualifications and
skill where they lack.
1.4
Analyze the role of the induction process in supporting others to understand the values, principles and
agreed ways of working within a work setting
The induction is a planned process which involves various members. The process of induction
depends upon how clear and effective your induction policy is. The policy clearly states the role of
each member involved in the induction process; and there is a checklist present for each phase. In this
way let a newbie join at the beginning of the session or in the mid of the session every newbie is going
to enjoy the induction process so that she understands all her duties and responsibilities adhered to the
job. This newbie will learn all the tricks of the trade going on in the organization pretty well including

Zacharias Suffering
Zacharias grew up in an Anglican family. However, the belief is only shown on the form. He himself
was an atheist until 17, when he attempted suicide by swallowing poison but failed. According to
Zacharias, there was somebody who told his mother to read John s Gospel to him while he laid in
hospital in Delhi. Then Zacharias decided to accept the Christian faith. Now, Zacharias is the author of
many Christian s publications, including Jesus among other Gods. The book pointed out many issues
by stating questions that skeptics may ask Christianity such as: If God is real, is not He supposed to
make our lives wonderful? Is God the source of suffering? Then one by one, it answers all of the
questions to showed that Christian faith is a reasonable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When pain and suffering attach people lives, again, because of their brokenness, they hunger for God s
solutions. When God does not give them what they want, their emotions take over. People start to ask
why He allows it. More than that, they question: is He there? This question has caused incalculable
individuals to judge their religion, question their beliefs, and, in some cases, abandon the concept that
there s a God. Several reach a conclusion just like this: If there is a caring, almighty God, he would rid
of the planet of evil currently. Since he does not, there should not be a God and if there is, he is either
not caring or not almighty, either of that makes Him unworthy to our worship. To answer this
question, Zacharias points out: the explanation must meet both the intellectual and emotional demands
(89). Christianity as a worldview is the only one that accepts the reality of evil and suffering, explains
both the cause and the purpose, and offers God given strength to survive it. Evil is real and the source
of it is: humanity rebelled against the holy Creator. Because they both suffer and cause suffering, evil
seems mysterious to them and they put the blame on God. The only solution is they have to allow God
to transform their hearts to bring an end to evil because He already has a plan for

The Kite Runner Guilt Quotes
Guilt is an unnecessary war with self. ( Adam John)
What is guilt?
Some say it s bothered conscience , Some describe it as a feeling of culpability for offences. but it is
much more than that. Guilt is an underestimated aspect of human life. A person living with guilt can
be elucidated like a prisoner who dreams to be a free man like Andy Dufresne in the Shawshank
redemption. But on the contras Andy was not living with guilt whereas an guilty man like Amir was ;
the guilt changed Amir as a boy and made him mentally caged. Throughout the novel , Amir is
plagued with guilt. He constantly thinks about his actions, is bothered by them but does not seem to
know how to resolve the situation , how to stop the battle going within him, until Rahim Khan gives
him a way, a way to be good again. First we observe that Amir seems to be guilty as a child as he
blamed himself for his mother s death and believed it was the reason why Baba never truly loved him,
he also was ashamed and unsatisfied with himself because he wasn t strong and masculine like his
father. : I always felt like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

punished for never stepping in and trying to protect Hassan because of his cowardice. What was so

The United States Constitution Vs. American Civil...
The United States Constitution gives the American people their freedom so to speak. The Constitution
outlines many things that other countries don t offer their citizens such as freedom of speech, religion
and the press. The First Amendment of the Constitutions guarantees that the United States people have
rights to freedom of expression and freedom of religion without the interference of the government.
The Bible states in Deuteronomy 17: 18 19, Now it shall come about when he sit on the throne of his
kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical
priests. It shall be with him, and he shall read it, all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the
Lord his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes . These laws have
been called into question on several different occasions. However, like anything else, there are some
stipulations with these laws. Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) did shed some insight
on the laws and how they can be interpreted. This paper will discuss the criminal statute issues, issues
with the provisions of the Constitution, and the status of criminal prosecution for transmission of
pornography over the internet. With the hopes of having a clearer understanding of Reno v. American
Civil Liberties Union. The First Amendment was a key component in Reno v. ACLU. It states that
Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech. The Courts

Summary Of Saboteur By Ha Jin
Ha Jin s short story Saboteur tells of a man who seems discontent, idealistic, and gravely ill. In Muji,
Mr. Chui, is accused of sabotage and taken by force to jail after a run in with railroad authorities. His
crime is for speaking out against police officers assaulting him and his bride during lunch in the city
square. The reader is lead to believe this is a simple case of excessive force by the police, therefore the
abuse of power is the catalyst of this short story, but the real story is about Mr. Chui s contempt for all
those around him and his utter lack of integrity.
Mr. Chui is thirty four, a lecturer at Harbin University, is gaunt, pale, and still recuperating from
hepatitis. His bride, a pale girl who wears glasses, is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the railroad police station, he is interrogated for hours by the bureau chief, who demands a
confession. Professing his innocence, he is defiant about not signing a letter of self criticism. Your
police station owes me an apology (Jin). Feeling sick, his hepatitis flairs under the stress, but he is left
imprisoned until Monday when the chief returns.
Monday morning his bride sends a former student of Mr. Chui, Fenji, a lawyer from a small firm of
two attorneys to get him out of jail. The young man confronts and insults the chief, who sends him to
the yard in the heat to learn some manners. Mr. Chui sees Fenji from his window and feels nauseous
Poor devil, he thought, as he raised a bowl of corn glue to his mouth (Jin). He realizes he has to sign
the confession to get them out of jail. After signing, Mr. Chui is so sick he can barely walk (Jin), if he
were able to he would razed the entire police station and eliminated all their families (Jin). Once
outside, Mr. Chui and Fenji, begin to walk around the station stopping at several restaurants to eat and
drink small amounts of food. Fenji watch his teacher mutter to himself and and for the first time Fenji
thought of Mr. Chui as an ugly man. (Jin). Muji City, a month later, has an outbreak of hepatitis. A
man of honor would not endanger others as he has. In conclusion, his contempt is not a grand cause

Selma Movie Analysis Of The Movie
Selma is based on a true story that happened in 1965 in Selma, Alabama. Selma was the city that
ended suffrage for African Americans because of Rev Martin Luther king and the help from his
Christian family. The movie has some intense violence and a lot of foul language, but overall is
mainly about Christian and moral content. Even though the Civil Rights Act of 1964 desegregated in
certain areas. It made it more difficult for black to register to vote. In 1964 Rev Martin Luther king
receives a Noble Pace Prize. The Civil Rights Act was outlaw segregation in all 50 states, but African
Americans where still having trouble at that time. Martin decides voting should be there next fight. So,
they march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. In the light of, the director makes good points
through the whole movie about what they went through. I like this movie because it gives me more
information of the people who were involved or who were there during that time. Like, Ann Lee
Coper (Oprah Winfrey), Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo), and the rest of the people who help
fight for African Americans to be able to vote. The movie also shows the difficult and the happy time
they went through. Even the problems with their family. No matter what s going on, they were still
focus and full invested in having freedom. What I learned from this movie was that they did not let all
the obstacles of what they went through mess up their main goal because of that I am able to take

Importance Of Cognitively Based Attitudes
Attitudes are evaluations of people, objects, and ideas. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes are
based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and cons of an
object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based attitudes are
based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object.
(Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood model is the umbrella for this topic, because it explains the
two ways in which persuasion can change someone attitude. The two ways are persuasion through the
central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The elaboration likelihood model refers
to processing the message which is related to the cognitively based attitudes. Persuasive
communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going through the central route because
the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the audience is not motivated. Now I am
going to discuss the routes of persuasion through advertisements in detail.
The case in which people elaborate on a persuasive communication, listening carefully to and thinking
about the arguments, which occurs when people have both ability, and the motivation to listen
carefully to communication is defined as the central route to persuasion. (Akert, 2013) For my
example, I found an advertisement about Rihanna s new long wearing, shine proof, makeup line. Her
message is, having 40

Analysis Of Blood On The Forge By William Attaway
A Change of Culture Culture has the power of informing you of someone s identity. It is said that
culture is the way of life a group of people follow, meaning their behaviors, beliefs, values, and
symbols that identify them as where they came from, who they are, and who they can become. On the
other hand, we know that culture is always changing and adapting to the lifestyle and advances of the
present day. This can happen by the adaptation groups of people have suffered in order to achieve a
better way of living other than the one they ve previously had. Examples of these changes can be seen
with the Great Migration in the 1900s. A movement in which many African Americans moved to the
North to work and settle in the steel mills in search of a better life. In Blood on the Forge by William
Attaway, we are able to in fact prove that culture can change and adaptation plays a key role in our
existence. The book portrays this change through the life and experiences of the Moss brothers and
their lifestyle from Kentucky to Pennsylvania. With that of culture comes our identity through music.
The death of the blues serves as an example in how culture is put up to the challenge of change.
Melody, Chinatown, and Big Mat represent the loss of folk culture which accompanied the Great
Migration of Black people from the rural South to the industrial North (Waldron 58). As we begin to
read, we are able to interpret their lives and identity in the South through Melody s music. This

Analysis Of Lark And Termite By Jayne Anne Phillips
In Lark and Termite, Jayne Anne Phillips advances a distorted conception of time that deliberately
confuses the boundary between past and present. The novel relays the narratives of a set of interrelated
characters, one of which takes place in Korea in 1950 and the rest of which occur in
Winfield, West Virginia in 1959. While these narratives are set apart from one another textually,
Phillips distorts their temporal and spatial relationship to one another throughout the novel by drawing
parallels between characters and events from the past and present, Korea and the United States.
Through this conception of time, as well as her use of spectral figures, she creates a representation of
the haunting effects of war on the next generation the ways in which it literally shapes both
individuals and families. Termite himself is curiously positioned within this distorted time space
dynamic, making him both a symbol of transgenerational trauma and a figure of existential liminality.
The interweavement of past and present and this portrayal of a liminally positioned Termite ultimately
create a unique setting, a particular distortion of time and place, for the confrontation of trauma and
the victims movement into release.
Space time parallelism:
Termite s liminality
The eponymous Termite has a peculiar physicality that links him to various people and places
throughout the narrative. He is described as minimally hydrocephalic ... and visually impaired, placing

The Styl Style Of Anita Desai
Anita Desai undoubtedly holds a prominent position among the Contemporary writers of Indo
Anglican fiction. She is a bold and experimental Novelist with a new sense and vibrant richness.
Much attention is given to the emotional crisis of her protagonists who live in a chaotic society. She
delves deep to find out the factors responsible for such a despair and attempts to suggest solutions to
overcome it. From her novels, it is clear that she, possesses one of the healthiest and psychologically
most balanced minds in the realm of Indo Anglican fiction and the sanity of her tastes and attitudes, is
almost exemplary, a point worth emulation for her fellow religionists in the field of writing. As a
woman writer she does not profess to be a feminist and yet she voices the fears and concerns, the
hopes and aspirations of her characters in her own artistic way. She is deeply fascinated in exploring
the social structure through the central characters in her novels. She is a minute observer of the society
existing around her, perceiving everything minutely and delicately so that the situations can be
presented in a poetic style.
Anita Desai differs from other Indian novelists such as R K Narayan,

Piracy and Copyright Infringement
If I post a poem on my Facebook site and someone cuts and pastes it on their site is that a case for
stealing my intellectual property? According to our textbook, If you purchase a music CD, copy it in
large quantities and then sell the copies to all of your friends, then you are guilty of copyright
infringement and have violated intellectual property rights. In other words, you are a pirate! This is a
significant issue; in fact, some researchers have estimated that in Third World countries, 90% of all
new software is pirated (5). However, regarding the poetry example, the answer is it depends. If it is a
poem by Emily Dickinson that is in the public domain and not copyrighted, the answer is no, you have
not stolen intellectual property. Thankfully, no one can be prosecuted for copyright violation simply
for quoting. But if the poem is your original poem and you own the rights to it through a Creative
Commons copyright with all rights reserved, and someone steals it, this would be theft of intellectual
property. As a poem is a completed work, unlike a quote or an excerpt, and could affect the poet s
ability to profit from selling his or her work and this could be construed as a violation versus the
posting of other written material. When deciding a copyright case, the courts traditionally evaluate: the
purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for
nonprofit educational purposes (for example, was the original

The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again
The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you
should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting.
Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good
morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if
you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts
what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that
person Happy Holidays?
The only time that I think Happy Holidays is acceptable is when you do not know the person well
enough to know what holidays they celebrate.
People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you offend
anyway.
I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I ever
received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person from
India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to India and
when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift.
I was blown a way that someone who doesn t even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of
another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. I asked him why and he said that he knows I
celebrate Christmas and he wanted my celebration to be special. He went on to say that wishing you

Empathy In The Odysseus
Empathy in the odyssey We often think that we are a caring and kind person but when we become
tired, stressed, or rushed all empathy we have can seem to vanish. We start to put our own needs first
and others second. But what if we weren t always like this? The odyssey is a perfect example of what
happens when we don t have empathy for others. In book 9 Odysseus and Polyphemus fail to
understand each other leading to some unfortunate results. Polyphemus shows almost no empathy in
his interaction with Odysseus but he shows even less, showing that without empathy pain is inevitable.
Odysseus first displays a great lack of empathy for the cyclops when comparing how different his
lifestyle is to Polyphemus . For example when describing how the Polyphemus lives he says in
disgust, He was quite unlike any man who eats bread, more like some wooded peak in the high hills,
standing out alone apart from the others. (9.190 192) It is apparent from this quote that Odysseus does
not respect those who work on their own. He thinks that Polyphemus is uncivilized and a lesser being
just because his lifestyle is different from that of Odysseus . In addition Odysseus distances himself
from the cyclops by comparing their size, describing the cyclops as, so huge he cannot possibly be
man . Rather than trying to find similarities between himself and the cyclops he obsesses on their
differences. Based on the fact that Odysseus clearly does not even try to understand what the cyclops
life is

The Plague of Athens was a virulent disease said to have started south of Ethiopia, which then spread
to Egypt, Libya, the Persian Empire, and finally, Greece (Kiple). It wiped out an estimated thirty three
percent of the Athenian population during the first outbreak and approximately twenty six percent
during the second outbreak, earning the spot as one of the worst epidemics in Greek history (Nelson,
Williams, Christos1). Its symptoms and side effects include extremely high fevers, inflammation of
the eyes, tongue, and throat, and severe cough before causing rashes, throwing up, extreme thirst, and

Typhus is transmitted by parasites, such as fleas or ticks (Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia).
Again, this disease has similar symptoms to the plague in minor cases, including fevers, headaches,
chills, and maculopapular rashes (Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia, Jonas). In major cases, such
as in the typhus epidemic, it can affect the brain, heart, lungs, and kidneys, similar to how the plague
does (Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia). Unlike regular typhus, epidemic typhus had a high
mortality rate (Macmillan Encyclopedia). A high mortality rate paired with similar symptoms of
fevers, headaches, and rashes, leads to the conclusion that this could also be the cause of the plague,
except for one small thing. Like smallpox, neither of these diseases yielded a product in the dental
pulp examination mentioned in the second paragraph. So although all the symptoms provide a good
argument as to why this could be the cause of the plague, it may not be, as the experiment proved it to

The Impact Of Modern Technology
We are living in an era where technology is evolving at an exponential rate. Not long ago, when in
need of driving directions, we pulled out a large folded street map from our vehicle s glove
compartment. Nowadays, we tap a few times on our smartphone or just ask Siri for directions. Better
yet, rather than visiting the local discount mart to replace our laundry detergent, we tell Alexa to
reorder it and have it shipped directly to our door. Throughout the day, we use technology to routinely
accomplish specific tasks or obtain information.
Even the simplest human actions performed for centuries, such as reading, have been made easier with
technology. It s quite possible you are reading this very essay on a piece of light emitting technology,
rather than on paper printed with ink. Modern Technology has unbelievably improved human
capabilities beyond what we ever imagined 20 or 30 years ago. It is very apparent that Technology has
made human life better, by improving communications with each other, and healthier by improving
the diagnosis and treatment of illness.
Today, modern cellular and satellite communication networks continually broadcast voice and data
around the globe in milliseconds to our little handheld devices and computers. This data includes
everything from our favorite TV show to billions of dollars in electronic trades on the financial stock
markets. All these modern communication technology tools have simplified the way humans and
businesses communicate

Asian Stereotypes Research Paper
According to Oxford dictionary, stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea
of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes found in our society are based on gender, race,
social class etc. It is not necessary for stereotypes to be right all the time; after all they are just
generalizations made by our ancestors and as the time changes people change. The power of
stereotypes can be felt when a person lives in minority. Being an Asian living in a white country, I
have heard a lot of comments based on my race. From other races, social media and TV shows, I
encountered 3 stereotypes this week.
Asians are smart , a phrase every Asian hears at least once in their lifetime. I heard it from my

Compression Stockings Affect The Clothes On The Body
Compression hose also called compression stockings are specialized hosiery that is designed to help
improve the circulation in the legs to prevent venous disease such as swelling, varicose veins and
blood clots. They are made from elastic, and compress the legs to help the muscles keep the blood
flowing back to the lungs and heart.
Venous insufficiency occurs when there is too much pressure on the veins in the legs so that the wall
of the vein becomes weak and the tiny valves inside the veins stop working properly. This results in
the blood pooling in the vein causing it to bulge and twist. Compression hose helps reduce the
pressure in the veins and prevents the veins from shutting down. They force the blood to pass through
narrower channels, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are prescribed to treat lymphatic and venous drainage of the leg. They also have distributed
pressure from the ankle to the thigh, and are most often prescribed for people who do not walk.
Compression stockings are also used by athletes in the hope they will improve the efficiency of the
muscles. While this may or may not be true, many athletes have anecdotal evidence that they benefit
from the stockings.
Both types of compression hose come in knee high or thigh high length. Knee high is considered the
best choice for prevention of deep vein thrombosis. They are also more comfortable. However, this is
a decision that may be made by our specialist.

Essay about Gambling Addiction
Gambling addiction has become very real, very quick, to me and my friends and family. My best
friend s mother, Beverly Roan, is currently incarcerated at Sandy Mush Correctional Facility in
Merced, California after allegedly embezzling over $350,000.00 from her employer to fund her
gambling addiction. Beverly is a 58 year old mother of three, and grandmother of eight; no one ever
suspected this level of addiction or criminal activity based on our daily interactions with her. We were
shocked and appalled when she was arrested at her work back in February. We were completely
unaware that her penchant for going to Chukchansi to play the slot machines had evolved into a full
fledged gambling addiction. Pathological gambling has become a ... Show more content on

Although more men than women are thought to suffer from pathological gambling, women are
developing this disorder at higher rates, now making up as much as 25% of individuals with
pathological gambling (Dryden Edwards).
Some other facts about the disorder are that it can happen in multiple venues from a casino to
someone s living room. With the advances of online gambling and the increase in websites that
promote and host gambling the number of people exposed to gambling increases. It is thought that
those at risk for gambling addiction are people being treated for Parkinson s disease or restless leg
syndrome with medications. Also people diagnosed as bipolar are higher risk. Most experts agree that
gambling addictioin is mostly likely the combination of several biological vulnerabilities (Dryden
Edwards). Diagnostics for gambling addiction is based on ruling out other psychological disorders.
The doctors would want to do complete physical, run blood tests and do a full psychological
evaluation. It is believed that most people who have a gambling addiction also suffer from some other
mental disorder. The only way for a gambling addict to ever recover is for the addict to admit they
actually have a problem. If the patient is in denial there is no possibility of recovery. They must first

Groupe Ariel Sa Case Analysis Essay
Groupe Ariel Sa Case Analysis Groupe Ariel S.A: Parity Conditions and Cross Border Valuation
Abstract This case discusses Cross Border valuation of projects. This kind of analysis is common for
companies that are operating in many countries. Groupe Ariel is one such company that is considering
investing in a project in its own subsidiary in Mexico. The company manufactures and sells printers,
copiers and other document production equipment in many countries. As far as, expansion into new
markets is concerned, company is very slow in taking initiatives as compared to its competitors owing
to the recent recession. But the management of the company believes that better durability and lower

The present value of all these cash inflows and outflows can be calculated by discounting them at
12.19%. This rate is calculated by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds in this scenario.
The company can do the feasibility analysis by looking at both from the subsidiary s and parent s
perspective by assuming that the purchasing power parity holds. Hence, this rate can be regarded as
opportunity cost of investment because it is the second best alternative for the company for investment
purposes. So, the NPV can be calculated by taking the sum of present values of all the cash flows.
This NPV comes out to be 3,703,176 Pesos. This NPV value can be converted into Euros by dividing
the NPV value by the spot exchange rate. The spot exchange rate is 15.99 MXN/EURO. Hence, by
dividing 3,703,176 by 15.99, NPV value in terms of Euro comes out to be 231,593 Euros. Compute
the NPV in €s by translating future peso cash flows into €s at expected future spot rates. Note Ariel s €
hurdle rate for this asset class was 8%. Annual inflation rates are expected to be 7% in Mexico and 3%
in France. NPV calculated for this scenario comes out to be 231,507 Euros. The first thing required for
calculating NPV in Euro is the forward premium. It is calculated by adding 1 to the inflation rates of
France and Mexico respectively, and then by taking their ratio. This ratio comes out to be 1.0388. This
ratio is then

The Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller And Fences
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream
deeply rooted in the American dream, Martin Luther King Jr. The American Dream is simply the idea
that every person has the same chance to achieve success through hard work. The Death of Salesman
by Arthur Miller and Fences by August Wilson closely hold a relatable pursuit of the American dream.
In both texts, the parents and children were torn apart from each other because of their pursuit of the
American Dream. This goal (American Dream) tears the families apart because in Fences Cory wants
to follow Troy s footsteps by playing a professional sport, but Troy doesn t want him to get involved
in sports because of he has experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s whose fault it is!, (Miller 131). Both of these fathers want to see their family succeed, but get
caught up in family problems and both end up passing away.
The mothers of these plays were key contributors to attempting to help their families get back
together. Rose tries to bring her family back together by making the boy build a fence in the quote,
Cory:I don t see why Mama want a fence around the yard nowadays. Troy: Damn if i know either.
What the hell she keeping out with it? She ain t got nothing nobody want. Bono:Some people build to
keep others out... and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all.
She loves you, (Wilson 2.1.32). This is a great point made by Nono because Rose is trying to make the
boys bond by making them put together a fence, symbolising the reconstruction of their relationship.
In the Death of a Salesman, Linda repeatedly attempts to keep the family together, especially in the
quote, Biff: Will you let me go, for Christ s sake? Will you take that phony dream and burn it before
something happens? I ll go in the morning. Put him put him to bed. Willy: Isn t that isn t that
remarkable? Biff he likes me! LINDA: He loves you, Willy!, (Miller 133). This perfectly showcases
how Linda is a vital piece to the Loman family, because without her their family would probably have
been separated. It s evident that

Alabama

pride washes over you for conquering this colossal mountain. You re so thirsty, you could drink the

The Black Belt is roughly 300 miles long and runs through Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and
Mississippi. In addition, it has rich, dark soil which makes it great farming and agriculture. Another
region is the Cumberland Plateau. It is known for its red clay soil. Along with that, It has rolling hills,
sandstone ridges, and other great things in this stupendous land region. Another addition to these neat
regions is the Gulf Coastal Plain. It has many wetlands which are vital sources of shelter for many
birds and fish, but almost half of the wetlands were destroyed for agriculture. Right now Alabama is
trying to reverse it and bring back those wetlands. Within all of these land regions, Alabama has an
interesting climate. The average summer temperature is 91℉, and an average winter temperature of
51℉. The record high and low are a stunning 116℉ and 27℉! Wow! Those are some spectacular
temperatures! Not only that, but Alabama s average yearly rainfall is 56 inches! That s a lot of rain!
Plus, Mobile, Alabama is one of the rainiest cities in the U.S.A., having 67 inches yearly! Alabama
also has a very diverse landscape. It has tons of rivers, including the Alabama River which runs 318

valleys such as the Black Belt Valley. All of this landscape and climate is mostly because of Alabama s
location, a Southeastern state. It is bordered by Mississippi on

I Am Joaquin Poem Analysis
During the 1960 s, the Civil Rights Movement wasn t the only one occurring. Struggling to assimilate
into American culture, and suppressed by social injustices convicted by their Anglo counterparts, the
Chicano movement was born. In the epic poem I am Joaquin written by Rodolfo Gonzales in 1969, we
dive into what it means to be a Chicano. Through this poem, we see the struggles of the Chicano
people portrayed by the narrator, in an attempt to grasp the American s attention during the time of
these movements. Hoping to shed light on the issues and struggles the Chicano population faced,
Gonzales writes this epic in an attempt to strengthen the movement taking place, and to give Chicanos
a sense of belonging and solidarity in this now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many times, these Chicanos were pushed off their lands and forced to try and survive elsewhere. I
owned land as far as the eye could see under the Crown of Spain, and I toiled on my earth and gave
my Indian sweat and blood for the Spanish master who ruled tyranny over man and beast and all that
he could trample. But... THE GROUND WAS MINE. This is what life was like before the Spanish
American War and before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This was life before Chicanos were
pushed off their land because Anglos fought the documents in court. This is before the treaty that was
supposed to protect their rights fell through. This is when life was hard, but it was a life they knew and
a struggle they lived with. Although Chicanos have endured many struggles, this is one they want to
fight for. Chicanos faced another problem along with their land being taken and being treated as
second class citizens. Assimilating into American culture was difficult. Do you keep in touch with the
roots of your homeland or do you change and adapt to the new ways of American culture? This was a
struggle for Chicanos and it was difficult to adapt. A new language and a new culture in a place they
once called their home. Some people tried to fit into both cultures, putting them into somewhere else
entirely. This didn t help their sense of belonging, and ultimately casted them farther as outsiders than
before.

Bad Science Book Essay
Bad Science Book I have learned many new things from the reading of Bad Science. I have a few of
them that I will discuss because they caught my interest. To start off, I would like to talk about the
exploration of cosmetics in the book. Everything ranging from significance of ingredients to its
marketing is falsified. It is presented as a breakthrough innovation yet it is an iteration based off of
Vaseline. Scientists wanted to replicate Vaseline and remove the grease associated with it. It is
presented with terminology that does not exactly make sense once that terminology is explained it is
clear how nonsense it really was. For instance, the idea of skin absorption is not correct at all. The idea
of your skin absorbing moisture has been common for a while. So when the author reveals this is ...

Ingredients are listed with no explanation but the appearance or a scientific name adds credibility and
a sense of status to the cream. These big name ingredients are not appropriate for human use at high
doses or some of them do not do anything special. The cream companies use this perception of
scientific advancement to further sales and create an ideal image that has nothing scientifically
backing it. The basic features that a cream can be replicated at home provided similar effects. The
term moisturized is stretched to ensure a perceived benefit. I would like to challenge this notion of
creams. Personally I have a severe case of dry skin. In the water my skin gets worse. I use a cream that
prevents it from getting dry. It is a highly premium costing cream. Much like the author states the
description of ingredients is scientific names I have never heard. I have tried regular creams and they
have never been able to provide the necessary moisture of my skin. What I would like to know is that
would Vaseline provide the current results the cream is yielding for me thanks to scientific innovation
or am I being misled. The author does not address skin

Images of the young Till lying in the casket were published in several black magazines and
newspapers in the US. Till s face and body were dismembered and mutilated, and his own mother
couldn t even identify him. The fact that Till was never properly identified strongly affected the trial,
and some people doubted the body in the casket was Till s. In 2004, the US Department of Justice
reopened the case and exhumed and autopsied the body which resulted in a positive identification that
it was Emmett Till. The Civil Rights Movement aimed to end racial segregation and discrimination
against black Americans. Today, black Americans are still fighting against the discrimination and
police brutality seems to be at the forefront of the injustices. Most recently, a woman by the name of
Sandra Bland was unlawfully arrested in Texas. Bland was initially pulled over for failing to use her
turn signal while she was switching lanes. Bland explained to the police officer that she quickly
switched lanes because she was trying to get out of his way. The traffic stop escalated, and Bland was

Pros And Cons Of Therapeutic Robots
Medical technology has evolved, starting from the nineteenth century to further development of the
medical technologies such as the diagnostic technology now being able to find the diagnosis of the
patient by automatically recording the data of the illness. Doctors and other health professions are now
able to prevent illnesses from getting worse; the evolvement of medical technology has further
allowed us to help diminish certain health illness(es). For example, the therapeutic robots have been
developed to help treat illnesses such as dementia but further studies have proven that therapeutic
robots can do so much more. Therapeutic robots are robots used for companionship and therapy; it is a
robotic pet such as an otter, cat, seal, and/or dog that operates like a real pet to help someone s health
issue. Yet, therapeutic robots are seen as controversial since many people view therapeutic robots as a
way of raising ethical concerns since they believe that therapeutic robots can eventually replace
humans. Although therapeutic robots such as PARO are viewed as harmful, they are beneficial to the
society because it can help diminish dementia, has a psychological effect on patients, improves the
socialization, and treats depression and alzheimer s.
PARO is a therapeutic robot used as a medical device in hospitals and nursing homes for patients with
severe health illnesses that has been around since 2004. As claimed by the PARO website, PARO is an
advanced interactive robot

  • 2. What Role Does Lucia Play In Mad Forest The UNCW theatre department s production of Mad Forest had many great actors and actresses involved. Lucia, played by Taylor England, and Toma, played by Tony Choufani, were the two characters and actors that stood out to me the most. I believe both of the actors did amazing jobs with their character, and both must have been very difficult roles to pull off. Taylor England playing the role of Lucia was very intriguing to watch. Her facial expressions alone made her a great actress for the role of Lucia in my opinion. Even when she was not the main focus of a scene, she continued to stay in character and the seriousness that came with a majority of the play. Taking acting for non majors has made me realize how much more difficult it is to not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He himself was an atheist until 17, when he attempted suicide by swallowing poison but failed. According to Zacharias, there was somebody who told his mother to read John s Gospel to him while he laid in hospital in Delhi. Then Zacharias decided to accept the Christian faith. Now, Zacharias is the author of many Christian s publications, including Jesus among other Gods. The book pointed out many issues by stating questions that skeptics may ask Christianity such as: If God is real, is not He supposed to make our lives wonderful? Is God the source of suffering? Then one by one, it answers all of the questions to showed that Christian faith is a reasonable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When pain and suffering attach people lives, again, because of their brokenness, they hunger for God s solutions. When God does not give them what they want, their emotions take over. People start to ask why He allows it. More than that, they question: is He there? This question has caused incalculable individuals to judge their religion, question their beliefs, and, in some cases, abandon the concept that there s a God. Several reach a conclusion just like this: If there is a caring, almighty God, he would rid of the planet of evil currently. Since he does not, there should not be a God and if there is, he is either not caring or not almighty, either of that makes Him unworthy to our worship. To answer this question, Zacharias points out: the explanation must meet both the intellectual and emotional demands (89). Christianity as a worldview is the only one that accepts the reality of evil and suffering, explains both the cause and the purpose, and offers God given strength to survive it. Evil is real and the source of it is: humanity rebelled against the holy Creator. Because they both suffer and cause suffering, evil seems mysterious to them and they put the blame on God. The only solution is they have to allow God to transform their hearts to bring an end to evil because He already has a plan for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The United States Constitution Vs. American Civil... The United States Constitution gives the American people their freedom so to speak. The Constitution outlines many things that other countries don t offer their citizens such as freedom of speech, religion and the press. The First Amendment of the Constitutions guarantees that the United States people have rights to freedom of expression and freedom of religion without the interference of the government. The Bible states in Deuteronomy 17: 18 19, Now it shall come about when he sit on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. It shall be with him, and he shall read it, all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes . These laws have been called into question on several different occasions. However, like anything else, there are some stipulations with these laws. Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) did shed some insight on the laws and how they can be interpreted. This paper will discuss the criminal statute issues, issues with the provisions of the Constitution, and the status of criminal prosecution for transmission of pornography over the internet. His crime is for speaking out against police officers assaulting him and his bride during lunch in the city square. The reader is lead to believe this is a simple case of excessive force by the police, therefore the abuse of power is the catalyst of this short story, but the real story is about Mr. Chui s contempt for all those around him and his utter lack of integrity. So, they march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama. In the light of, the director makes good points through the whole movie about what they went through. Like, Ann Lee Coper (Oprah Winfrey), Martin Luther King (David Oyelowo), and the rest of the people who help fight for African Americans to be able to vote. The movie also shows the difficult and the happy time they went through. Even the problems with their family. No matter what s going on, they were still focus and full invested in having freedom. • 9. Importance Of Cognitively Based Attitudes Attitudes are evaluations of people, objects, and ideas. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes are based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and cons of an object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based attitudes are based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object. (Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood model is the umbrella for this topic, because it explains the two ways in which persuasion can change someone attitude. The two ways are persuasion through the central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The elaboration likelihood model refers to processing the message which is related to the cognitively based attitudes. Persuasive communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going through the central route because the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the audience is not motivated. Now I am going to discuss the routes of persuasion through advertisements in detail. The case in which people elaborate on a persuasive communication, listening carefully to and thinking about the arguments, which occurs when people have both ability, and the motivation to listen carefully to communication is defined as the central route to persuasion. • 10. Analysis Of Blood On The Forge By William Attaway A Change of Culture Culture has the power of informing you of someone s identity. It is said that culture is the way of life a group of people follow, meaning their behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that identify them as where they came from, who they are, and who they can become. On the other hand, we know that culture is always changing and adapting to the lifestyle and advances of the present day. This can happen by the adaptation groups of people have suffered in order to achieve a better way of living other than the one they ve previously had. Examples of these changes can be seen with the Great Migration in the 1900s. A movement in which many African Americans moved to the North to work and settle in the steel mills in search of a better life. In Blood on the Forge by William Attaway, we are able to in fact prove that culture can change and adaptation plays a key role in our existence. The book portrays this change through the life and experiences of the Moss brothers and their lifestyle from Kentucky to Pennsylvania. With that of culture comes our identity through music. The death of the blues serves as an example in how culture is put up to the challenge of change. Melody, Chinatown, and Big Mat represent the loss of folk culture which accompanied the Great Migration of Black people from the rural South to the industrial North (Waldron 58). As we begin to read, we are able to interpret their lives and identity in the South through Melody s music. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Analysis Of Lark And Termite By Jayne Anne Phillips In Lark and Termite, Jayne Anne Phillips advances a distorted conception of time that deliberately confuses the boundary between past and present. The novel relays the narratives of a set of interrelated characters, one of which takes place in Korea in 1950 and the rest of which occur in Winfield, West Virginia in 1959. While these narratives are set apart from one another textually, Phillips distorts their temporal and spatial relationship to one another throughout the novel by drawing parallels between characters and events from the past and present, Korea and the United States. Through this conception of time, as well as her use of spectral figures, she creates a representation of the haunting effects of war on the next generation the ways in which it literally shapes both individuals and families. Termite himself is curiously positioned within this distorted time space dynamic, making him both a symbol of transgenerational trauma and a figure of existential liminality. The interweavement of past and present and this portrayal of a liminally positioned Termite ultimately create a unique setting, a particular distortion of time and place, for the confrontation of trauma and the victims movement into release. Space time parallelism: Termite s liminality The eponymous Termite has a peculiar physicality that links him to various people and places throughout the narrative. She is a bold and experimental Novelist with a new sense and vibrant richness. Much attention is given to the emotional crisis of her protagonists who live in a chaotic society. She delves deep to find out the factors responsible for such a despair and attempts to suggest solutions to overcome it. From her novels, it is clear that she, possesses one of the healthiest and psychologically most balanced minds in the realm of Indo Anglican fiction and the sanity of her tastes and attitudes, is almost exemplary, a point worth emulation for her fellow religionists in the field of writing. As a woman writer she does not profess to be a feminist and yet she voices the fears and concerns, the hopes and aspirations of her characters in her own artistic way. She is deeply fascinated in exploring the social structure through the central characters in her novels. • 13. Piracy and Copyright Infringement If I post a poem on my Facebook site and someone cuts and pastes it on their site is that a case for stealing my intellectual property? According to our textbook, If you purchase a music CD, copy it in large quantities and then sell the copies to all of your friends, then you are guilty of copyright infringement and have violated intellectual property rights. In other words, you are a pirate! This is a significant issue; in fact, some researchers have estimated that in Third World countries, 90% of all new software is pirated (5). However, regarding the poetry example, the answer is it depends. If it is a poem by Emily Dickinson that is in the public domain and not copyrighted, the answer is no, you have not stolen intellectual property. Thankfully, no one can be prosecuted for copyright violation simply for quoting. But if the poem is your original poem and you own the rights to it through a Creative Commons copyright with all rights reserved, and someone steals it, this would be theft of intellectual property. As a poem is a completed work, unlike a quote or an excerpt, and could affect the poet s ability to profit from selling his or her work and this could be construed as a violation versus the posting of other written material. When deciding a copyright case, the courts traditionally evaluate: the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes (for example, was the original ... • 15. The Holiday Season Is Upon Us Once Again The Holiday season is upon us once again. As usual there are lot of arguments about whether you should say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or some other greeting. Wishing someone happiness on a certain holiday celebration is not like wishing someone good morning. It is a greeting that should be tailored to the person that it is being said to. Think about it if you are at a mall and you see someone wearing a Santa hat with arm loads of brightly wrapped gifts what holiday do you think they are celebrating? My guess is Christmas, so why would I tell that person Happy Holidays? The only time that I think Happy Holidays is acceptable is when you do not know the person well enough to know what holidays they celebrate. People worry so much about offending people but by reverting to such a cold non greeting you offend anyway. I grew up in a Christian home and I continue to practice Christianity but the most thoughtful gift I ever received came from someone who did not celebrate Christmas. I received a gift from a person from India who was a practicing Hindu, he was in this country on a work visa. He went home to India and when he came back he brought me a Christmas gift. I was blown a way that someone who doesn t even celebrate Christmas brought me, someone of another faith and race a gift to help me celebrate. • 16. Empathy In The Odysseus Empathy in the odyssey We often think that we are a caring and kind person but when we become tired, stressed, or rushed all empathy we have can seem to vanish. We start to put our own needs first and others second. But what if we weren t always like this? The odyssey is a perfect example of what happens when we don t have empathy for others. In book 9 Odysseus and Polyphemus fail to understand each other leading to some unfortunate results. Polyphemus shows almost no empathy in his interaction with Odysseus but he shows even less, showing that without empathy pain is inevitable. Odysseus first displays a great lack of empathy for the cyclops when comparing how different his lifestyle is to Polyphemus . For example when describing how the Polyphemus lives he says in disgust, He was quite unlike any man who eats bread, more like some wooded peak in the high hills, standing out alone apart from the others. (9.190 192) It is apparent from this quote that Odysseus does not respect those who work on their own. He thinks that Polyphemus is uncivilized and a lesser being just because his lifestyle is different from that of Odysseus . In addition Odysseus distances himself from the cyclops by comparing their size, describing the cyclops as, so huge he cannot possibly be man . Rather than trying to find similarities between himself and the cyclops he obsesses on their differences. Based on the fact that Odysseus clearly does not even try to understand what the cyclops life is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not long ago, when in need of driving directions, we pulled out a large folded street map from our vehicle s glove compartment. Nowadays, we tap a few times on our smartphone or just ask Siri for directions. Better yet, rather than visiting the local discount mart to replace our laundry detergent, we tell Alexa to reorder it and have it shipped directly to our door. Throughout the day, we use technology to routinely accomplish specific tasks or obtain information. Even the simplest human actions performed for centuries, such as reading, have been made easier with technology. It s quite possible you are reading this very essay on a piece of light emitting technology, rather than on paper printed with ink. Modern Technology has unbelievably improved human capabilities beyond what we ever imagined 20 or 30 years ago. It is very apparent that Technology has made human life better, by improving communications with each other, and healthier by improving the diagnosis and treatment of illness. Today, modern cellular and satellite communication networks continually broadcast voice and data around the globe in milliseconds to our little handheld devices and computers. With the advances of online gambling and the increase in websites that promote and host gambling the number of people exposed to gambling increases. It is thought that those at risk for gambling addiction are people being treated for Parkinson s disease or restless leg syndrome with medications. Also people diagnosed as bipolar are higher risk. Most experts agree that gambling addictioin is mostly likely the combination of several biological vulnerabilities (Dryden Edwards). It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream, Martin Luther King Jr. The American Dream is simply the idea that every person has the same chance to achieve success through hard work. The Death of Salesman by Arthur Miller and Fences by August Wilson closely hold a relatable pursuit of the American dream. In both texts, the parents and children were torn apart from each other because of their pursuit of the American Dream.
