Analysis Of Hillbilly Elegy By Jd Vance
Persistence, resilience, and grit three traits that I believe are often the most sought after by
professionals all over the world. Developing these three skills can be a difficult process, however
when all three are present in a person, that person can become a valuable asset for any company or
business. In JD Vance s memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, we see how he develops these important traits
throughout his life. Through his struggles and victories, we the reader learn that no matter the situation
you are placed in, you can succeed if you develop 3 important skills those being persistence,
resilience, and grit. Through my life experiences thus far, I have found that, out of these three traits, I
am quite resilient. My ability to bounce back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once I discovered this method, I felt far more confident taking tests, and overall improved my average
test grades for that class. Being resilient is a skill I believe applies well to me, however is my grit. As I
stated, I am typically quick to find a solution to many issues I encounter in my life. I figure out what is
wrong and quickly try to fix this issue. However, there is always a constant fear that I won t be able to
figure out what is wrong when searching for a solution. If the problem isn t quickly resolved with my
method, I begin to overthink what may be wrong, and often that leads me down the wrong path.
Unfortunately, this happens to me more often than it should. When it takes me a long time to figure
out a solution, I begin to get far to stressed and anxious, leading to me getting distracted from what the
actual issue is, creating a domino effect that leads me further and further away from the explanation.
Before I know it, I have let another slip up happen, whether it be in class or in life in general, and then
I have to juggle two issues at the same time. Grit is not an easy attribute to acquire, and is especially
hard for me to develop. Sure, my method of problem solving works most of the time, but when it fails
and I cannot figure out what is wrong, I have a very difficult time bouncing back. When it

John Marshall Website
College websites serve a variety of purposes for prospective and current students, which include, but
are not limited to, generating information, data collection, and facilitating online transactions.
Accelerated accessibility of web presence through a variety of platforms, from desktops to
smartphones, propels websites to the forefront of many colleges introduction to prospective students.
The aesthetic composition of websites is as significant as is practicality in our modern technological
age, and mastery or shortcomings in either attribute can engender positive or negative assumptions
respectively from visitors. Approximately 80 percent of website visitors assume that the design of a
website is reflective of the entity it represents, according to researchers (Lowry 63). Subsequently, I
have decided to conduct an analysis of Atlanta s John Marshall Law School s (AJMLS) website
(Front) due to recent interactions with the site while applying for admission. During this essay, I will
explore the aesthetics, practicality, and inconsistencies inherent in the site when accessed on mobile
platforms as compared to desktops. John Marshall is an Atlanta based, private law school that was

My Last Duchess Meaning
The quote from the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning describes the part toward the end
where the Duke is talking to someone about what led to the death of his wife. Evidence supported by
the quote itself, specifically the line Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands: / Then all
smiles stopped together. There she stands/ As if alive (45 47), leads us to the conclusion that jealousy
and arrogance got the best of the Duke, which made him give the orders to have his wife killed.
The Duke is perceived to be the jealous, dominating type when it came to his wife who is now dead;
starting with the monk Fra Pandolf, whom he chose to paint the portrait of his wife. He chose him
over other painters because Frá Pandolf would not flirt

Admiral Car Insurance Review
Admiral car insurance review
Admiral is a car insurance specialist which offers single and multicar insurance. The company s
insurance goal is to help their customers save time and money, also providing legal covers, 24 hour
roadside emergency accident helpline as well as personal injury cover.
Characteristics
a) Products
The first aspect when reviewing the Admiral Car insurance is the range of products. The company
offers a wide range of benefits, suited for all kind of drivers. Firstly, it grants a 10% discount for
online purchasing. This can be a good marketing strategy because it determines clients to use Admiral
s new products as well as giving live feedback for the services.
Moreover, the insurance covers young drivers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The client and her daughter used the multicar insurance provided by the company. After an accident,
the second car was written off. However, after 18 months from these events, the client received a letter
in which Admiral stated that it did not know about the accident and a £400 administration fee should
be paid. After several phone calls and poor customer service, the person in cause found out that the
company managed to take the administration fee out of the client s account without her consent.
However, the situation was solved and the money returned after the Complaints Department was
informed. This also resulted in losing a client and a poor rating for professionalism.
However, there are also cases when customers appreciated the bright side of Admiral. This is the case
of a young driver that decided to buy her first insurance from Admiral. She tells that the agent
explained the service in detail and very clearly, and the paperwork was easy to understand. What is
more, she also states that the company offered her a discount after declining the renewal of her policy
which was much more expensive.
Suggestions
Customer service is the factor that can increase or decrease a company s credibility in the market. The
major complaint of clients refers to the situation of explaining their dilemma many times to many
agents. Solutions as providing unique customer numbers indicate a better

Sweatshops In America
In last week s meeting in Canada, the Group of Eight industrial nations grappled with the question of
how to better economic conditions in poor nations. One powerful means would be to improve the
conditions of workers in sweatshops. Two billion people in the world make less than two American
dollars a day. As voters and consumers of sweatshop products, Americans can make a difference in
ending the miserable conditions under which these people work.
Some argue that sweatshops are simply a step up a ladder toward the next generation s success: the
garment worker at her loom is carrying out some objective law of development, or the young girl
making toys for our children is breaking out of male dominated feudalism. This line of thinking recalls
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don t we have the consumer and political power to pressure our corporations to end sweatshop wages
paid to the people who make these goods? These workers are not demanding stock options and
Jazzercise studios. Women in Bangladesh say they could care for their children if their wages rose to
34 cents an hour, two tenths of 1 percent of the retail price of the Harvard hat.
Some economists argue that even the most exploited and impoverished workers are better off than
those who are unemployed or trapped in slave labor. But that argument is not about offering anyone a
ladder up, but about which ring of Dante s inferno people in developing nations are consigned to. We
don t want Disney, Mattel, Wal Mart or other major American companies to leave the developing
world. We simply want to end the race to the bottom in which companies force countries to compete
in offering the lowest wages for their people s labor. There should be a floor beneath which no one has

Selecting a Locale for Global Outsourcing
Selecting a Locale for Global Outsourcing
Introduction:
The process of globalization is changing the way that companies large and small must conduct
business to survive. From external factors such as the international laws and widely varying domestic
tax policies to internal changes to personnel or process, free trade policies are altering operational
strategy, especially for small companies engaging in growth. One of the most determinant changes
brought on by free trade and its gradual permeation of the developing world is the appeal of global
outsourcing or off shoring for growing American businesses. Outsourcing is the practice by which
companies will employ agencies external to the company, and increasingly external even to the
primary country of operation, in order to attain specialty services at a fee per service basis. Also
important to the discussion, the concept of off shoring will find a company expanding into a new
international location by establishing a satellite base of operations within. Each strategy carries its
own unique set of challenges and advantages. Part of our task as a growing company verging on its
first venture of internationalization is to determine what balance of these strategies might best serve
our interests.
Factors in a Global Context:
There are many global factors to consider that have been emergent with the spread of globalization.
For a firm seeking an ideal context for establishing a new manufacturing center, cost is of course a

Cyber Security Operation Centers ( Soc )
Security Operation Centers (SOC) are established in order to defend and protect their constituents
from illusive and perilous threats. Cyber Security Operation Centers (CSOC) have a more difficult
role to play with their adversaries cloaking themselves with online aliases and high anonymity
proxies. With technology racing at a lightning speed, CSOCs have no time to waste reaching their Full
Operational Capability, bringing them to be completely capable detecting, analyzing and mitigating
crises that their promised constituents face. Cyber Security Operation Centers play a much larger role
than simply incident response; depending on what CSOCs define their mission to be, CSOCs can be
created to handle and cyber security related task. This breadth makes what they define as Full
Operational Capability (FOC) as broad as their networks reach. Reaching Full Operational Capability
is not a simple task, and many SOCs fail to reach FOC, much less in their designed time period. Initial
Operational Capability is the minimum point where a SOC can start caring out the mission to the bare
minimum, but this is not sufficient for the SOC nor is it the end goal. CSOCs were not made to stay at
their minimum capabilities, but the road to Full Operational Capability is paved with challenges and
unplanned potholes on the way to their correct destination. In order to help CSOCs and SOCs alike to
reach their Full Operational Capability, eliminating the challenges and potholes must be held to the

Why Is Jay Gatsby Great
Although some say that Jay Gatsby isn t as great as the title of the book, because of all the fraud he
has committed, Jay Gatsby can be viewed as great because he did not allow his circumstances at birth
to hold him back, he achieved incredible amounts of wealth, which he shared with others, and his
primary desire for Daisy s love was genuine. Most people born into poverty remain there because they
do not have enough faith in themselves to get out, but James Gatz was different. Gatz was determined
to forget his past, since his past was holding him back from what he wanted to pursue in the future.
Gatsby later reveals his true past to Nick and Nick tells us that his parents were shiftless and
unsuccessful farm people and his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. (98)
Nick continues to explain how awful his life was when he was poor and how he felt about his family.

money would bring him happiness and only money, until he met Daisy. So, Gatsby had all the love for

Feminism and Art History
The history of mankind has often been captured in snapshots between the rise and fall of great leaders
and civilizations, by artists all with a common dream of portraying what they saw during their times.
Ideologies reflective of their societies were depicted through sculptures, frescoes, pottery, paintings,
and many other methods. Many of these principals were created, celebrated, and popularized by
constituents of societies where andocentric values were applied not only to social and political mores,
but also to the various art forms as the male body was cherished and praised and the female body was
hidden away from public view. The book Feminism and Art History: Questioning the Litany edited by

Kampen concludes by discussing how the image of women portrayed the idealistic views of women as
caretakers who stayed at home , and works of art supported this by depicting women as
mythological or entertaining, or as an adjunct to the patron s own status; otherwise she might not
appear. (pg. 74) The author believes that the artists were in denial of the experiences of working
women and that s why the views of working women were limited. The visual portrayals of gender and
status in Roman society stand as a bridge linking the work of art and the work of society together as
one. The final chapter that I read was one I found extremely conflictant and interesting because not
only did we touch on some of these topics in class, but when I visited the Metropolitan Museum I
actually had some of the same issues with the works I saw there. Eve and Mary: Conflicting Images of
Medieval Woman by Henry Kraus, was by far one of the more fascinating chapters and discussed the
distorted views of women as vessels that the Devil could use to entrap a man and cause him to fall
from God s grace, during medieval times and reinforced by the Catholic Church. Monasteries were
places that men could go and abstain from worldly pleasures, proving their dedication to God and
refraining from anything that could cause them to sin either physically, emotionally, and especially
spiritually. During the fourteenth century,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Short Sale
Short sale Short sale is a sale of securities in which investors does not own the securities, they simply
borrow the securities, usually from the broker in expectation that the securities price will decline and
allow them to make profit by buy back the securities at a lower price. Short selling often used by
investors to either hedge or speculate and can be classified as speculative activity. The benefit of short
sale is that it allows investors to add value to their portfolio even when there s a bear market since it
can be difficult to make profit in a bear market without short sale and if investors use short sale to
hedge, they can minimize their portfolio risk. The downfall of short sale is that the loss can be

The Theory Of Moral Theory
In the domain of moral theory there are many approaches to see what a moral action is. The aim of
this paper is to evaluate a moral theory known as Utilitarianism. The idea of Utilitarianism is summed
up in The Principle of Utility or better known as The Greatest Happiness Principle (Bentham 6). The
principle proposes the idea that an action is right if it maximizes pleasure and minimizes pain to the
greatest number of people. Numbers do not dictate the ethics or morality of an action. However, is
there a way in which this theory could be utilized in minor situations? The purpose of this paper is to
explain Bentham s moral theory as well as to demonstrate why the theory is impossible to calculate.
This essay will also discuss arguments for and against Bentham s theory in order to demonstrate that it
is not applicable to large scale scenarios due to the complexity of the theory.
The idea of The Greatest Happiness Principle was first developed by Jeremy Bentham. The principle
is focused on the concept of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain for the greatest number of
people. He intends to determine whether an action is morally right or wrong through the use of
hedonic calculus. Before going forward, it is essential to differentiate the concepts that Bentham
mentions: consequences, calculus, and hedonism. Starting off with consequences it is relatively
straight forward. Bentham s utilitarianism focuses more heavily on the effects rather than the process.
The calculus

Japan s Culture And Its Unique Geography Essay
Japan s culture began with its unique geography as an island that is separated and isolated from other
East Asian countries. While there are many theories about modern s Japanese ancestor; however, most
Japanese archaeologists believe the first people that lived and colonized in Japan was the Ainu. The
combined evidence of archeology, anthropology, and genetics have shown the indistinctive look
between Ainu and the modern Japanese. In their overall genetic makeup, the Ainu are related to other
East Asians, include Japanese and Koreans. The distinctive appearance and hunter lifestyle of the
Ainu, and the indistinctive appearance and the intensive agricultural lifestyle of the Japanese have
suggested that the Ainu are descended from Japan s original hunter gatherer inhabitants (Diamond).
Japan independence includes three main dates. The most important and current constitution adopted as
amendment to Meiji Constitution date was 3 May 1947. Other notable earlier dates include 660 B.C.,
traditional date of the founding of the nation by Emperor JIMMU and 29 November 1890, date in
which Meiji Constitution provides for constitutional monarchy (Japan). The most important and major
revolution in Japan s history was the Meiji Revolution, a chain of events that restored practical
imperial rule to Japan in 1868 under Emperor Meiji. The Restoration led to enormous changes in
Japan s political and social structure. The period spanned from 1868 to 1912 and was responsible for

Physiological Adaptations of the Plesiosaur for ‘Holding its Breath
By Nathan Eaton
One hundred and fifty million years ago, large aquatic species of reptile such as the Plesiosaur
dominated the ocean, and were pre eminent predators of the sea. The branch of now extinct
Plesiosaurs, or ‘near lizards , evolved into variant closely related species specialised to take different
niches in the food chain. Such species of Plesiosaur include the phenotypically similar Plesiosauroid
and Pliosauroid. The physiological adaptations of the long necked variant, the Plesiosauroid, as it
relates to deep sea diving, will be addressed in depth.

The best adapted seals can dive to depths of 1600 metres. An analogue of the Plesiosaur, in terms of
dive depth, diet, and body shape, is the modern Sea Lion. The sea lion has been known to dive up to
two hundred metres. Additionally, Plesiosaurs ‘used their hyperphalangic paddles for subaqueous
flight in the manner of modern sea lions (Chatterjee Small, 1989).
Sea lions and whales, Plesiosaur analogues, can endure environments which would kill a human.
Humans are at risk of illness or death when returning from a great depth to the ocean s surface. Under
pressure, nitrogen liquefies, or dissolves into the bloodstream, and an abrupt reduction in pressure can
cause it to want to escape the body in the same way gases in a pressurised can wish to. Whales
overcome this problem, because their rib cage and lungs collapse and compress under higher pressure:
forcing the air into non absorptive areas of the lung, and blood flow is reduced to the lung, reducing
the intake of air and importantly, nitrogen:
(The whale s adaptations allow) the heartbeat to slow, peripheral arteries to constrict, and shunting
of oxygenated blood to vital organs. During a whale s dive, the metabolic rate drops, causing a
reduction in heart rate, or bradycardia. A bradycardia

Brady Tragic Hero
Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee s drama Inherit the Wind depicts the story of the Scopes Monkey
Trial. It takes place in a small religious community where talking about evolution is against the law. A
schoolteacher within the town had been caught teaching Darwinism to his science class, which drew
attention from people all over the country. A famous lawyer named Henry Drummond arrived to
defend him, while a man named Matthew Harrison Brady, a well liked religious figure, visited to
prosecute him. It could be argued that Brady possessed the traits of a tragic hero, which is a flawed
character that suffers for his beliefs. Brady s choices and ways make him fit the traits of a tragic hero.

Mrs. Brady mentioned the doctor warning Brady about overheating. He let his appetite control him,
and ignored the risks of eating so much outside in the heat. Furthermore, Brady didn t stop to calm

Essay on Critique Of death Of The Author
Critique of quot;Death of the Author quot;
The title to the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; by Roland Barthes, suggests this story may be
a fictional novel about the story of an author s death. Perhaps one might pick it up, and skim the
foreword in hopes that beneath the cover of this book there would be a mystery, a story of detectives,
eye witnesses, clues, and a puzzle for the reader to solve. Before I read this story, the title quot; The
Death of an Author quot; brought to my imagination the biography of a writer slowly drinking himself
to death trying to finish the story of his life, but the author would be stuck and depressed because his
life is not a story as it is boring and repetitive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I came to this conclusion after reading
quot; The Death of an Author quot; for the fourth or fifth time. I began to wonder why does this man
write this way? What caused him to have so much distrust toward the critics? Those are the thoughts
he was trying to persuade us not to think.
Barthes wanted the author of the story to be no more than a name printed on the top or front of a book.
Throughout the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; Barthes refers to the author as a scriptor in
stating quot;Succeeding the Author, the scriptor no longer bears within him passions, humors,
feelings, impressions but rather this immense dictionary from which he draws a writing that can know
no halt. quot; Barthes announces that a scriptor is superior to an author but they are the same. Now if a
scriptor is superior to an author this passage drags on and on, never circulating around a single point.
A scriptor does not try to make art of the two hundred and fifty five symbols placed in front of him. A
scriptor arranges the symbols in an order that once decoded can be read back and can convey whatever
message the scriptor recorded. Barthes reveals his knowledge of this in writing, quot;Once the author
is removed, the claim to decipher a text becomes quite futile. To give a text an Author is to impose a
limit on that text, to furnish it with a final signified, to close the writing. quot;

A Brief Note On Gore And Associates, An American...
W.L. Gore Associates is an American manufacturing company that specializes in making products
derived from polytetrafluoroethylene, or simply PTFE. The company is best known for its Gore Tex
fabric coating, which makes fabric waterproof and windproof, but yet breathable. The company
evolved from the late Wilbert L. Gore s experiences personally, organizationally, and technically. Mr.
Gore moved to E. I. du Pont de Nemours in 1945 where he was part of a team that worked on the
development of applications for PTFE. Wilber Gore, or Bill to his coworkers, became knowledgeable
in the development of computers and transistors. He believed that PTFE had the ideal insulating
characteristics that would make PTFE useful in such equipment. A breakthrough happened in the
basement in his house when Mr. Gore and his son Bob successfully created PTFE coated ribbon by
using PTFE sealant tape made by 3M. Because Du Pont wanted to remain a supplier of raw materials
and not a fabricator, Bill was unsuccessful in convincing Du Pont to make his PTFE coated ribbon
cable. On January 1, 1958, Bill and his wife Vieve founded W.L. Gore Associates in the basement of
their house. The company took off when the Gores secured an order for $100,000. W.L. Gore
continued to grow and manufacture products made from PTFE. Bill Gore died in 1986 while

The Black City was always lurking and ready to welcome men back (247). Holmes fully represented
evil and turned the White City Black again. He went so far as to, erect his Castle close to the Fair
grounds so as to gather in these victims by the wholesale (336). Holmes earns money off of the fair by
turning his Castle into a hotel to lure women in (85). Holmes embodies every part of evil and near the
end of his life, he even states that he was born with the devil inside of him (109). Holmes displayed
his likeness to the devil even further when Larson says: He liked being near enough to hear the
approach of death in the rising panic of his victims (256). Holmes believed he played in a game where
he was all powerful. He moves women and children around as if he possessed them: He possessed
them all and reveled in his possession (350). Without people being attracted to the White City that
Burnham built with good intentions, Holmes never would have been able to take advantage of people
by welcoming back the Black

Case Brief Pulley V Malek
However, if this were true all Monica had to do was make the University aware of Harold s presence.
Had Monica done this, Harold would have been removed from the room. She would not have been
forced to clean his messes and her injury would not have happened. By not informing the University
Monica silently acquiesced to Harold moving in and became a harborer of Harold. It is also likely that
her care and desired control over Harold is enough to establish her as Harold s keeper, while Rachel
was not present.
Irritating Dog:
A person can irritate a dog by teasing, tormenting or abusing it. These three terms are provided, but

Malek, the plaintiff and defendant were neighbors. Pulley v. Malek, 495 N.E.2d 402 (Ohio 1986). The
defendant s dog was hit by a car and unable to move on its own. Id. at 403. The defendant then called
the plaintiff asking for a veterinarian s phone number. Id. Plaintiff gave the number and came outside
asking if he could help. Id. Plaintiff then picked up the dog and carried it into the defendant s house,
even though the defendant refused assistance. Id. Inside the defendant s house, plaintiff again picked
up the dog attempting to place it into the defendant s car and the dog bit the plaintiff. Id. Ohio Court of
Appeals, stated that there was no evidence of the plaintiff maliciously provoking the dog. Id.
However, no part of the R.C. 955.28(b) requires evidence of malicious provocation, to establish the
plaintiff s conduct as tormenting. Id. at 404. Most Ohio courts define tormenting as conduct involving
greater annoyance, usually resulting in physical pain. Id. at 405. The Supreme Court of Ohio applied
this definition to the facts in Pulley, and concluded that a reasonable jury would find the picking up of
the injured dog, sufficient for tormenting. Id.
In our case, the plaintiff was more aggressive toward the dog by striking it with her shoe. In Pulley v.
Malek, the plaintiff was attempting to assist the dog and ended up accidentally harming the dog by
picking it up. 495 N.E.2d 402 (Ohio 1986). In both cases, the dogs received physical pain as a result
of the plaintiff s conduct. Applying the same definition of tormenting used by The Supreme Court of
Ohio in Pulley, to our case, it is likely that Monica s conduct will constitute as tormenting, if not
abuse.

Foraging Affects The American Culture
Foraging affects the American Culture because sometimes it is hard for them to be able to find food
for the families to be able to eat. Everyone has to work together as a family and help one another to be
able to survive with being able to find food for everyone. Some of the American Cultures have
different methods they that use in order to be able to find food. Foraging is a mode of livelihood base
on obtaining food that is available in nature methods such as gathering, hunting, fishing or scavenging
(Miller, 2013). Sometimes they do not have difficulties with finding food so a lot of times they will
just have to hunt for food. Fr example, they will collect different things from a nearby river such as
fish or and small species that they see that they can eat. The men are the ones that do most of the
hunting of the big animals because the big animals go a long way. In order for the American Cultures
they have to be prepared. They have to rely on a diverse set of tools used for gathering, transporting
and processing wild food (Miller, 2013). They need tools in order to be able to catch food so that they
are able to eat and so that they are able to plant things in the ground such as corn, potatoes, tomatoes,
and different kinds of fruits. When the American cultures are hunting, they have to make sure that they
have a lot of land. If they do not have a lot of land it will be hard for them to be able to hunt for food.
It has been estimated that people that have a lot of land

The Pros and Cons of Reptiles as Pets
How many people can say that they have a pet that has been around, in some form or other, for 300
million years? Reptiles are fascinating animals that have been around since the Carboniferous Period,
300 million years ago. Many different species of reptiles have come and gone over the course of time
and there are five main groups. Turtles and tortoises are distinguished by the presence of their
carapace, or shells, which is also their main defense against predators. Lizards are the most diverse
and varied among the reptiles with many different types from chameleons, to iguanas, to geckos, to
monitor lizards which includes the largest of all lizards; the Komodo dragon. Tuataras are the most
ancient of reptiles and can be found exclusively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many interesting things people can learn about reptile behavior from their pet like how their
reptile eats, how it moves, how it hunts, how it reproduces, how it mates, how it defends itself, and
how it s born. One fact that can be learned is that not all reptiles are born from eggs some, like boas,
are born live. There are many benefits to keeping a reptile. For example, people who are allergic to pet
dander from furry animals like cats and dogs can keep a reptile as a pet. Reptiles aren t furry, so there
aren t any allergy problems to consider. Reptiles also don t really require the intense care that is
needed for many other pets as their cold blooded metabolism makes them less active. Many reptiles
also don t need to be fed daily as a good meal will often keep them for days or even months in the case
of many snakes. Reptiles are also good for people who like quiet pets as many are relatively silent.
(PetLife) When choosing a pet reptile people also need to be aware of the advantages and
disadvantages of keeping a reptile to be sure it is suitable for them. For example, the experts at Reptile
Expert.com recommend that Corn snakes make a good snake pet for beginners. They are docile and
respond well to human handling. (Hsin Yi) The owners have to be aware that some pet reptiles have
killed people and take into consideration the fact they will be solely responsible for anything that

Coffee In Central America Research Paper
Coffee in Central America
Over time, the tradition of taking the highly lucrative cash crop of coffee has become universal to the
extent that its production is marred with interference from political, social, economic, and scientific
concepts that affect its production. In Central America, the major countries that produce coffee include
Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua. In these countries, coffee is
among the largest traded commodities. Normally, this production takes place through small scale
farmers who are largely dependent on larger corporations to bridge the gap between them and the
consumers. Coffee production in Central America is affected by social, economic, globalization and
political factors that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sick explains this by stating that the farmers are forced to deal with mother nature problems whose
source is the continuing global warming that is getting worse by the day (194). Over the years, there
has been a lot of environmental degradation in Central America especially as evidenced with the
depletion of the tropical rain forests that attract rainfall. Consequently, the region has experienced the
creation of microclimates and weather conditions that are immensely unpredictable. The consequence
is a situation where the conditions do not support the growth of coffee and thus the need for higher
investments such as the use of

My Brother Sam Is Dead By Christopher Collier
My Brother Sam is Dead
The authors of My Brother Sam is Dead, James and Christopher Collier, are ultimately against the
war. They are against the war for multiple reasons, The Division of Families, the Clash of
Generations, and Sam s Principles Vs. Reality. In My Brother Sam is Dead, although both sides are of
war are shown, author s Collier and Collier ultimately argue that war is unfair and futile!
One of the reasons Collier and Collier are against war is the Divisions between Families. One of the
divisions is when Mr. Meeker kicks Sam out of the house for joining the Revolutionary War. Go, Sam.
Get out of my sight... (Collier and Collier 22). This was when Sam and his Father were arguing and
Mr. Meeker told Dam to leave and not come back until he was dressed like his son not a stranger.
Another division is Tim vs. Sam. This one is tough because Sam puts Tim on the spot by making him

his actual Realities. For example his fight for freedom. He believes that fighting for freedom at the
risk of getting killed is better than living under British rule. Sir, it s worth dying to be free (Collier and

under the British. Lastly, the many many brutal deaths that happened during the war. For example Ned
s beheading. Ned was fighting against the Redcoats attack and one of the Redcoats shoots Ned while
he is still firing and the Redcoats pulls out a sword and slices Ned s head off. Another example was
Mr. Meekers death on the British prison ship. This is extremely ironic because Mr. Meeker is a very
strong Tory that doesn t care for the war. He was captured by Cowboys who claimed to be Patriots.
They threw him on a prison ship that turned out to be a British one and he got sick and

Compare And Contrast The Raven And The Tell Tale Heart
Kyle Cantrell
Professor Toni
2 November 2017
Nevermore
Edgar Allan poe is one of the most incredible gothic writers, with a library of many famous works. He
is famous for his dark and ominous way of narrating, as well as his brutal and obscure endings to his
tales. Arguably his most famous works are the poem entitled The Raven published January 29th 1845,
and his short story The Tell Tale Heart published a few years earlier on January 1843. Both of these
pieces of literature pulled the listener directly into Poe s mysterious world, with suspense and intensity
in every line. The Raven and The Tale Heart written by Edgar Allan Poe both develop the gothic
theme of madness by using dark imagery, similar symbolism, and torment.
The Raven follows a man who is tormented by a large raven on top of his chamber door. He recently
lost his lover Lenore, and he believes that this Raven is in his chamber is taunting him, and making
light of his lost love. As the story progresses the narrator starts to drift further and further from sanity
until he can no longer understand the events that are taking place. The Tell Tale Heart the main
character is also driven to madness, but in this case it is by a mysterious eye, to the point where he
must commit murder in order to feel at peace. However this is not the end of this tale. The police
arrive at his house to question him, and just as he was almost in the clear the beating of a heart causes
him to expose the hiding place of the

Do you envision a Commander as a failure if they have lost many troops? My answer is No. As long
as the Commander utilizes the six principles of mission command they have not failed as the
Commander. Therefore, in the Cold Harbor Civil War General Grant did an outstanding job as the
Commander. He played a major role in utilizing all principles of mission command. The five roles I
will elaborate on and describe in which General Grant exercised great are building cohesive teams
through mutual trust, providing a clear commander s intent, exercising discipline initiative, utilizing
mission orders, and accepting prudent risks. There are many challenges in upholding the role as the

Determinants Of A College Basketball Team
Determinants of a college basketball team s revenue

Nils Weddig, Siena College, USA
Abstract
This paper shows empirical evidence of how a men s college basketball program s revenue is affected
by several determinants. Results are being taken out of sample data from the past eight basketball
seasons. The most important determinants considering a college basketball team s revenue include
advertising, ticket pricing, performance during the previous season as well as the past three games,
performance of a local rival s program in the previous season, quality of opponents faced, time of the
event, and the Gross State Product. This article evaluates the listed determinants on the basis of a

College basketball is one of the most popular college sports to attend and to watch. The evaluated
college is compared to other Division 1 programs a smaller college. However, their basketball team is
still very competitive and has appeared in eleven national tournaments, six of which have been at the
NCAA tournament. Over the past decade the program has seen a lot of success but they have also
battled many hardships.
Even though the success of the team has changed throughout the years the one thing that has never
changed is the support from the students, alumni, faculty, and the community. At every home game the
arena is filled with students, alumni, faculty, as well as the local community that attend to watch great
basketball and support their favorite team. In this research article we are going to analyze how the
program s revenue is affected by different determinants. Collecting data of past ticket sales, pricing of
the tickets, as well as the attendance for each game will enable us to determine the amount of revenue
generated from this program. Some determinants that we are going to consider are the advertisement
expenses for each game, the opponent s team quality, the performance of the crosstown rival s
basketball program, whether the games are being held during the week or on weekends as well as the
time of the game, and finally a demographic factor, the Gross State

Analysis Of Phantom Of The Opera
A good film is when the price of dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it (Alfred
Hitchcock). A good filmmaker may believe that their film is amazing, but the success of the film truly
lies in the hands of the audience. Every successful movie has appealed to an audience, but one has
stood out for many years. Webber scratched the extra nonsense from Gaston Leroux s version of
Phantom of the Opera; and he focused on the elements that appeal to an audience. Any audience,
young or old, all enjoy mystery, romance, sensuality, and a Byronic hero. Andrew Lloyd Webber was
able to create the most successful entertainment piece of all time because he focused on the traits that
any audience wants, a little bit of mystery, romance, sensuality, and a Byronic hero. Mystery is an
important factor in entertainment, allowing the audience to stay engaged with what is happening.
Andrew Lloyd Webber incorporates mystery beautifully in his movie version of Phantom of the
Opera. His mystery mainly comes from the setting of the Paris Opera House itself. The Opera House
is filled with trap doors, contraptions, and a torture chamber, which the Phantom uses to his
advantage. The Phantom gets Christine down into his secret lair because of a trap door located within
the mirror in her room. FLATTERING CHILD, YOU SHALL KNOW ME, SEE WHY IN SHADOW

Parental Loss At A Young Age
Introduction
Parental loss at a young age has been linked to heightened risk of psychological problems in
adulthood, especially depression and lower self confidence (Mack, 2001; Mireault Bond, 1992; Saler
Skolnick, 1992*) It has also been linked to several different health conditions including chronic pain,
hypertension, heart disease, and immune disorders (Luekin Lemery, 2004; McEwen Seeman, 2006).
The way a child grieves over a lost parent shapes the way that information is interpreted and stored in
the brain as well (Lupien, Ouellet Morin, Hupbach, Tu, Buss, Walker, et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002)
and it can influence whether or not life events are defined as stressful (Lupien et al., 2006). Studies
conducted concerning childhood bereavement suggest that early parental loss can lead to the
development of poorly regulated neuro emotional response systems (Brotman, Gouley, Klein,
Castellanos Pine, 2003) and the alteration of brain structures that help with memory and cognitive
functioning (Lupien et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002). Because of the impact of the loss, often times,
children need help to recover from the loss of their parent. There have been several studies conducted
on effective interventions and strategies when it comes to helping a child grieve and recover from the
loss of their loved one.
Stages of Grief and the Grieving Process
Grieving children commonly pass through five different stages of grief, although they do not follow a
particular pattern

Compare And Contrast The Passionate Shepherd To His Love
The Idealist and the Realist are two rather different types of people. One sees the world in an
optimistic light, where the flowers seemingly always bloom and summer is ever lasting, while the
other sees the world as a skeptic and sees that all happiness at some point comes to an end. Within the
poems The Passionate Shepherd to his love and The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd we see these two
types of people interact with one and another through letters as one expresses his love and the other
rejects it. We see how the Shepherd views the world and the blossoming of love and we see the
Nymph s view of the world and her skeptical view on love. The story of these two poems start with
the declaration of love from the Shepherd within The Passionate Shepherd to his love, with the first
line of the poem being Come live with me, and be my love yet what is his view on love? Well the
Shepherd within his poem to the Nymph, says that he d give her gifts like A cap of flowers and a kirtle
(Line 11, Shepherd) to her. Those aren t the only gifts either he even promises her a Gown made of the
finest wool (Line 13, Shepard), and also some Delights such as other Shepherds singing and dancing
for them(Line 21, Shepherd). The Shepherd seems to view that love is not moved by who one is, but
rather by bribes and entertainment which are different from the Nymph s own views. The Nymph
herself seems to be rather skeptical of the Shepherd and seemingly has a distrust of Shepherds due

Application Of Delone Mclean s Information System
ABSTRACT The study was conducted to validate the application of DeLone McLean s Information
System (IS) success model (2003) in a local setup in Kenya and to evaluate the success of a enterprise
resource planning (ERP) system from a user perspective. It was carried out at Coffee Research
Foundation (CRF) in Kenya. A number of past studies to measure the success of information systems
in different settings were reviewed leading to the choice and use of the updated DeLone McLean IS
success model in this study. The research involved the use of questionnaires as well as interviews and
focus group discussion (FGD). A number of hypotheses were tested and the results indicated that the
updated DeLone McLean s IS success model was valid as a useful model for this particular study. The
study also indicated that the variables system quality, information quality, and service quality stood
out as critical determinants of how information and communication technology systems can be used to
improve organizational performance. Keywords: ERP system, DeLone McLean IS Success Model,

A Research Study On Clinical Research
1. Describe the type(s) of internship(s) you are seeking this summer.
This summer, I have been seeking clinical research internships. These include any research that is
conducted in a hospital setting and correlates to patients. I would be developing my research skills in a
laboratory setting while also developing intrapersonal skills working with patients. The research that I
have conducted at the University of Richmond has been invaluable; however, I plan on applying to an
MD/PhD program and I feel that clinical research would be a more valuable experience for this
upcoming summer.
I have applied to a clinical research internship at Stanford University that focuses on training
undergraduate students who are perusing a MD/PhD. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The internship will provide me with a challenging opportunity to develop skills pertaining to clinical
research that will further benefit me on my career path.
I have also looked into clinical research at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania through an
inquiry form outlining my interests. This has the ability to match me to various laboratories. This was
not an official application, but my information has been passed along to faculty mentors at the
Hospital.
2. Why do you want to intern this summer?
I believe the summer is the perfect opportunity to jump into something new and challenging in order
to develop one s intellect and character. My ultimate career goal is to become a physician scientist and
I feel using the summer to gain clinical skills earlier on will positively impact my career trajectory.
During my undergraduate experience, I have not had many opportunities to conduct clinical research,
but I am eager to learn new skills immerse myself in learning opportunities. Furthermore, an
internship can provide me with unique networking opportunities to learn not only from my internship
mentor, but other physician scientists and interns as well. Currently, I do not have the place to gain
such connections but I am eager to form them.

The New Republic
As if the new republic did not have enough problems, they also had to deal with the fact that there was
a general dislike felt for the new regime by most of the population from both the left and the right
sides. This all went back to the fact that it was these politicians who signed the Treaty of Versailles.
The people found it difficult to accept that the war had been lost. From the home front, it was not
obvious that the war had been lost, and so it was difficult to understand why the politicians had agreed
to the Peace Talks in Versailles. The troops were upset with the political leaders and saw them as
weak. They believed that they gave in to internationally pressure and that the politicians had lost the
war, not the soldiers. As a result, there was a general distrust in the new government. During the
Weimar Republic the stab in the back idea became popular amongst the right wing. Under this mind
set, the politicians who signed the treaty were seen as the traitors, and as guilty of stabbing the troops
in the back. This legend is depicted below in this cartoon which illustrates Philipp Scheidemann and
Matthias Erzberger literally stabbing the German army in the back with the signing at Versailles.
What many Germans did not understand, was that the war truly was lost, and that meant that Germany
did not have much choice in the matter. They needed to sign the Treaty of Versailles, or they would
need to deal with the consequences. While the Germans originally held firm

Some of the largest craters in this period were filled with lava from Mercury s interior. It s believed
that vulcanism on Mercury ended during its first 700 800 million years. Craters on Mercury can be

  • 3. Analysis Of Hillbilly Elegy By Jd Vance Persistence, resilience, and grit three traits that I believe are often the most sought after by professionals all over the world. Developing these three skills can be a difficult process, however when all three are present in a person, that person can become a valuable asset for any company or business. In JD Vance s memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, we see how he develops these important traits throughout his life. Through his struggles and victories, we the reader learn that no matter the situation you are placed in, you can succeed if you develop 3 important skills those being persistence, resilience, and grit. Through my life experiences thus far, I have found that, out of these three traits, I am quite resilient. My ability to bounce back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once I discovered this method, I felt far more confident taking tests, and overall improved my average test grades for that class. Being resilient is a skill I believe applies well to me, however is my grit. As I stated, I am typically quick to find a solution to many issues I encounter in my life. I figure out what is wrong and quickly try to fix this issue. However, there is always a constant fear that I won t be able to figure out what is wrong when searching for a solution. If the problem isn t quickly resolved with my method, I begin to overthink what may be wrong, and often that leads me down the wrong path. Unfortunately, this happens to me more often than it should. When it takes me a long time to figure out a solution, I begin to get far to stressed and anxious, leading to me getting distracted from what the actual issue is, creating a domino effect that leads me further and further away from the explanation. Before I know it, I have let another slip up happen, whether it be in class or in life in general, and then I have to juggle two issues at the same time. Grit is not an easy attribute to acquire, and is especially hard for me to develop. Sure, my method of problem solving works most of the time, but when it fails and I cannot figure out what is wrong, I have a very difficult time bouncing back. When it ... • 4. John Marshall Website College websites serve a variety of purposes for prospective and current students, which include, but are not limited to, generating information, data collection, and facilitating online transactions. Accelerated accessibility of web presence through a variety of platforms, from desktops to smartphones, propels websites to the forefront of many colleges introduction to prospective students. The aesthetic composition of websites is as significant as is practicality in our modern technological age, and mastery or shortcomings in either attribute can engender positive or negative assumptions respectively from visitors. Approximately 80 percent of website visitors assume that the design of a website is reflective of the entity it represents, according to researchers (Lowry 63). Subsequently, I have decided to conduct an analysis of Atlanta s John Marshall Law School s (AJMLS) website (Front) due to recent interactions with the site while applying for admission. During this essay, I will explore the aesthetics, practicality, and inconsistencies inherent in the site when accessed on mobile platforms as compared to desktops. John Marshall is an Atlanta based, private law school that was founded in 1933, according to the About page on the website. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Next, I will compare and contrast those characteristics to the mobile site, and finally, I will make suggestions on how to reconcile the differences between the two platforms. Noting that the website consists of dozens of links and there are word constraints of this essay, I will limit the scope of this analysis to the Home page. Despite these margins, this analysis is relevant in other areas of the site, as the template styled design maintains great consistency throughout the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Last Duchess Meaning The quote from the poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning describes the part toward the end where the Duke is talking to someone about what led to the death of his wife. Evidence supported by the quote itself, specifically the line Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands: / Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands/ As if alive (45 47), leads us to the conclusion that jealousy and arrogance got the best of the Duke, which made him give the orders to have his wife killed. The Duke is perceived to be the jealous, dominating type when it came to his wife who is now dead; starting with the monk Fra Pandolf, whom he chose to paint the portrait of his wife. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The client and her daughter used the multicar insurance provided by the company. After an accident, the second car was written off. However, after 18 months from these events, the client received a letter in which Admiral stated that it did not know about the accident and a £400 administration fee should be paid. After several phone calls and poor customer service, the person in cause found out that the company managed to take the administration fee out of the client s account without her consent. However, the situation was solved and the money returned after the Complaints Department was informed. This also resulted in losing a client and a poor rating for professionalism. However, there are also cases when customers appreciated the bright side of Admiral. This is the case of a young driver that decided to buy her first insurance from Admiral. She tells that the agent explained the service in detail and very clearly, and the paperwork was easy to understand. What is more, she also states that the company offered her a discount after declining the renewal of her policy which was much more expensive. • 7. Sweatshops In America In last week s meeting in Canada, the Group of Eight industrial nations grappled with the question of how to better economic conditions in poor nations. One powerful means would be to improve the conditions of workers in sweatshops. Two billion people in the world make less than two American dollars a day. As voters and consumers of sweatshop products, Americans can make a difference in ending the miserable conditions under which these people work. Some argue that sweatshops are simply a step up a ladder toward the next generation s success: the garment worker at her loom is carrying out some objective law of development, or the young girl making toys for our children is breaking out of male dominated feudalism. This line of thinking recalls ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Don t we have the consumer and political power to pressure our corporations to end sweatshop wages paid to the people who make these goods? These workers are not demanding stock options and Jazzercise studios. Women in Bangladesh say they could care for their children if their wages rose to 34 cents an hour, two tenths of 1 percent of the retail price of the Harvard hat. Some economists argue that even the most exploited and impoverished workers are better off than those who are unemployed or trapped in slave labor. But that argument is not about offering anyone a ladder up, but about which ring of Dante s inferno people in developing nations are consigned to. We don t want Disney, Mattel, Wal Mart or other major American companies to leave the developing world. We simply want to end the race to the bottom in which companies force countries to compete in offering the lowest wages for their people s labor. • 8. Selecting a Locale for Global Outsourcing Selecting a Locale for Global Outsourcing Introduction: The process of globalization is changing the way that companies large and small must conduct business to survive. From external factors such as the international laws and widely varying domestic tax policies to internal changes to personnel or process, free trade policies are altering operational strategy, especially for small companies engaging in growth. One of the most determinant changes brought on by free trade and its gradual permeation of the developing world is the appeal of global outsourcing or off shoring for growing American businesses. Outsourcing is the practice by which companies will employ agencies external to the company, and increasingly external even to the primary country of operation, in order to attain specialty services at a fee per service basis. Also important to the discussion, the concept of off shoring will find a company expanding into a new international location by establishing a satellite base of operations within. Each strategy carries its own unique set of challenges and advantages. Part of our task as a growing company verging on its first venture of internationalization is to determine what balance of these strategies might best serve our interests. Factors in a Global Context: There are many global factors to consider that have been emergent with the spread of globalization. • 9. Cyber Security Operation Centers ( Soc ) Security Operation Centers (SOC) are established in order to defend and protect their constituents from illusive and perilous threats. Cyber Security Operation Centers (CSOC) have a more difficult role to play with their adversaries cloaking themselves with online aliases and high anonymity proxies. With technology racing at a lightning speed, CSOCs have no time to waste reaching their Full Operational Capability, bringing them to be completely capable detecting, analyzing and mitigating crises that their promised constituents face. Cyber Security Operation Centers play a much larger role than simply incident response; depending on what CSOCs define their mission to be, CSOCs can be created to handle and cyber security related task. This breadth makes what they define as Full Operational Capability (FOC) as broad as their networks reach. Reaching Full Operational Capability is not a simple task, and many SOCs fail to reach FOC, much less in their designed time period. Initial Operational Capability is the minimum point where a SOC can start caring out the mission to the bare minimum, but this is not sufficient for the SOC nor is it the end goal. CSOCs were not made to stay at their minimum capabilities, but the road to Full Operational Capability is paved with challenges and unplanned potholes on the way to their correct destination. In order to help CSOCs and SOCs alike to reach their Full Operational Capability, eliminating the challenges and potholes must be held to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why Is Jay Gatsby Great Although some say that Jay Gatsby isn t as great as the title of the book, because of all the fraud he has committed, Jay Gatsby can be viewed as great because he did not allow his circumstances at birth to hold him back, he achieved incredible amounts of wealth, which he shared with others, and his primary desire for Daisy s love was genuine. Most people born into poverty remain there because they do not have enough faith in themselves to get out, but James Gatz was different. Gatz was determined to forget his past, since his past was holding him back from what he wanted to pursue in the future. Gatsby later reveals his true past to Nick and Nick tells us that his parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people and his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. Feminism and Art History The history of mankind has often been captured in snapshots between the rise and fall of great leaders and civilizations, by artists all with a common dream of portraying what they saw during their times. Ideologies reflective of their societies were depicted through sculptures, frescoes, pottery, paintings, and many other methods. Many of these principals were created, celebrated, and popularized by constituents of societies where andocentric values were applied not only to social and political mores, but also to the various art forms as the male body was cherished and praised and the female body was hidden away from public view. Kampen concludes by discussing how the image of women portrayed the idealistic views of women as caretakers who stayed at home , and works of art supported this by depicting women as mythological or entertaining, or as an adjunct to the patron s own status; otherwise she might not appear. (pg. 74) The author believes that the artists were in denial of the experiences of working women and that s why the views of working women were limited. The visual portrayals of gender and status in Roman society stand as a bridge linking the work of art and the work of society together as one. The final chapter that I read was one I found extremely conflictant and interesting because not only did we touch on some of these topics in class, but when I visited the Metropolitan Museum I actually had some of the same issues with the works I saw there. Eve and Mary: Conflicting Images of Medieval Woman by Henry Kraus, was by far one of the more fascinating chapters and discussed the distorted views of women as vessels that the Devil could use to entrap a man and cause him to fall from God s grace, during medieval times and reinforced by the Catholic Church. Monasteries were places that men could go and abstain from worldly pleasures, proving their dedication to God and refraining from anything that could cause them to sin either physically, emotionally, and especially spiritually. • 13. The Theory Of Moral Theory In the domain of moral theory there are many approaches to see what a moral action is. The aim of this paper is to evaluate a moral theory known as Utilitarianism. The idea of Utilitarianism is summed up in The Principle of Utility or better known as The Greatest Happiness Principle (Bentham 6). The principle proposes the idea that an action is right if it maximizes pleasure and minimizes pain to the greatest number of people. Numbers do not dictate the ethics or morality of an action. However, is there a way in which this theory could be utilized in minor situations? The purpose of this paper is to explain Bentham s moral theory as well as to demonstrate why the theory is impossible to calculate. This essay will also discuss arguments for and against Bentham s theory in order to demonstrate that it is not applicable to large scale scenarios due to the complexity of the theory. The idea of The Greatest Happiness Principle was first developed by Jeremy Bentham. The principle is focused on the concept of maximizing pleasure and minimizing pain for the greatest number of people. He intends to determine whether an action is morally right or wrong through the use of hedonic calculus. Before going forward, it is essential to differentiate the concepts that Bentham mentions: consequences, calculus, and hedonism. Starting off with consequences it is relatively straight forward. Bentham s utilitarianism focuses more heavily on the effects rather than the process. The calculus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Japan s Culture And Its Unique Geography Essay Japan s culture began with its unique geography as an island that is separated and isolated from other East Asian countries. While there are many theories about modern s Japanese ancestor; however, most Japanese archaeologists believe the first people that lived and colonized in Japan was the Ainu. The combined evidence of archeology, anthropology, and genetics have shown the indistinctive look between Ainu and the modern Japanese. In their overall genetic makeup, the Ainu are related to other East Asians, include Japanese and Koreans. The distinctive appearance and hunter lifestyle of the Ainu, and the indistinctive appearance and the intensive agricultural lifestyle of the Japanese have suggested that the Ainu are descended from Japan s original hunter gatherer inhabitants (Diamond). Japan independence includes three main dates. The most important and current constitution adopted as amendment to Meiji Constitution date was 3 May 1947. Other notable earlier dates include 660 B.C., traditional date of the founding of the nation by Emperor JIMMU and 29 November 1890, date in which Meiji Constitution provides for constitutional monarchy (Japan). The most important and major revolution in Japan s history was the Meiji Revolution, a chain of events that restored practical imperial rule to Japan in 1868 under Emperor Meiji. Physiological Adaptations of the Plesiosaur for ‘Holding its Breath By Nathan Eaton One hundred and fifty million years ago, large aquatic species of reptile such as the Plesiosaur dominated the ocean, and were pre eminent predators of the sea. The branch of now extinct Plesiosaurs, or ‘near lizards , evolved into variant closely related species specialised to take different niches in the food chain. Such species of Plesiosaur include the phenotypically similar Plesiosauroid and Pliosauroid. The physiological adaptations of the long necked variant, the Plesiosauroid, as it relates to deep sea diving, will be addressed in depth. The best adapted seals can dive to depths of 1600 metres. An analogue of the Plesiosaur, in terms of dive depth, diet, and body shape, is the modern Sea Lion. The sea lion has been known to dive up to two hundred metres. Additionally, Plesiosaurs ‘used their hyperphalangic paddles for subaqueous flight in the manner of modern sea lions (Chatterjee Small, 1989). Sea lions and whales, Plesiosaur analogues, can endure environments which would kill a human. Humans are at risk of illness or death when returning from a great depth to the ocean s surface. Under pressure, nitrogen liquefies, or dissolves into the bloodstream, and an abrupt reduction in pressure can cause it to want to escape the body in the same way gases in a pressurised can wish to. Whales overcome this problem, because their rib cage and lungs collapse and compress under higher pressure: forcing the air into non absorptive areas of the lung, and blood flow is reduced to the lung, reducing the intake of air and importantly, nitrogen: (The whale s adaptations allow) the heartbeat to slow, peripheral arteries to constrict, and shunting of oxygenated blood to vital organs. Essay on Critique Of death Of The Author Critique of quot;Death of the Author quot; The title to the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; by Roland Barthes, suggests this story may be a fictional novel about the story of an author s death. Perhaps one might pick it up, and skim the foreword in hopes that beneath the cover of this book there would be a mystery, a story of detectives, eye witnesses, clues, and a puzzle for the reader to solve. Before I read this story, the title quot; The Death of an Author quot; brought to my imagination the biography of a writer slowly drinking himself to death trying to finish the story of his life, but the author would be stuck and depressed because his life is not a story as it is boring and repetitive. ... What caused him to have so much distrust toward the critics? Those are the thoughts he was trying to persuade us not to think. Barthes wanted the author of the story to be no more than a name printed on the top or front of a book. Throughout the story quot; The Death of an Author, quot; Barthes refers to the author as a scriptor in stating quot;Succeeding the Author, the scriptor no longer bears within him passions, humors, feelings, impressions but rather this immense dictionary from which he draws a writing that can know no halt. quot; Barthes announces that a scriptor is superior to an author but they are the same. Now if a scriptor is superior to an author this passage drags on and on, never circulating around a single point. A scriptor does not try to make art of the two hundred and fifty five symbols placed in front of him. A scriptor arranges the symbols in an order that once decoded can be read back and can convey whatever message the scriptor recorded. Barthes reveals his knowledge of this in writing, quot;Once the author is removed, the claim to decipher a text becomes quite futile. To give a text an Author is to impose a limit on that text, to furnish it with a final signified, to close the writing. quot; I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parental Loss At A Young Age Introduction Parental loss at a young age has been linked to heightened risk of psychological problems in adulthood, especially depression and lower self confidence (Mack, 2001; Mireault Bond, 1992; Saler Skolnick, 1992*) It has also been linked to several different health conditions including chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, and immune disorders (Luekin Lemery, 2004; McEwen Seeman, 2006). The way a child grieves over a lost parent shapes the way that information is interpreted and stored in the brain as well (Lupien, Ouellet Morin, Hupbach, Tu, Buss, Walker, et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002) and it can influence whether or not life events are defined as stressful (Lupien et al., 2006). Studies conducted concerning childhood bereavement suggest that early parental loss can lead to the development of poorly regulated neuro emotional response systems (Brotman, Gouley, Klein, Castellanos Pine, 2003) and the alteration of brain structures that help with memory and cognitive functioning (Lupien et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002). Because of the impact of the loss, often times, children need help to recover from the loss of their parent. • 33. Compare And Contrast The Passionate Shepherd To His Love The Idealist and the Realist are two rather different types of people. One sees the world in an optimistic light, where the flowers seemingly always bloom and summer is ever lasting, while the other sees the world as a skeptic and sees that all happiness at some point comes to an end. Within the poems The Passionate Shepherd to his love and The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd we see these two types of people interact with one and another through letters as one expresses his love and the other rejects it. We see how the Shepherd views the world and the blossoming of love and we see the Nymph s view of the world and her skeptical view on love. The story of these two poems start with the declaration of love from the Shepherd within The Passionate Shepherd to his love, with the first line of the poem being Come live with me, and be my love yet what is his view on love? Well the Shepherd within his poem to the Nymph, says that he d give her gifts like A cap of flowers and a kirtle (Line 11, Shepherd) to her. Those aren t the only gifts either he even promises her a Gown made of the finest wool (Line 13, Shepard), and also some Delights such as other Shepherds singing and dancing for them(Line 21, Shepherd). The Shepherd seems to view that love is not moved by who one is, but rather by bribes and entertainment which are different from the Nymph s own views. The Nymph herself seems to be rather skeptical of the Shepherd and seemingly has a distrust of Shepherds due ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Application Of Delone Mclean s Information System ABSTRACT The study was conducted to validate the application of DeLone McLean s Information System (IS) success model (2003) in a local setup in Kenya and to evaluate the success of a enterprise resource planning (ERP) system from a user perspective. It was carried out at Coffee Research Foundation (CRF) in Kenya. A number of past studies to measure the success of information systems in different settings were reviewed leading to the choice and use of the updated DeLone McLean IS success model in this study. The research involved the use of questionnaires as well as interviews and focus group discussion (FGD). A number of hypotheses were tested and the results indicated that the updated DeLone McLean s IS success model was valid as a useful model for this particular study. The study also indicated that the variables system quality, information quality, and service quality stood out as critical determinants of how information and communication technology systems can be used to improve organizational performance. Keywords: ERP system, DeLone McLean IS Success Model, System Quality, Information Quality, Service Quality, Use, User Satisfaction, Net Benefits 1.0. • 35. A Research Study On Clinical Research 1. Describe the type(s) of internship(s) you are seeking this summer. This summer, I have been seeking clinical research internships. These include any research that is conducted in a hospital setting and correlates to patients. I would be developing my research skills in a laboratory setting while also developing intrapersonal skills working with patients. The research that I have conducted at the University of Richmond has been invaluable; however, I plan on applying to an MD/PhD program and I feel that clinical research would be a more valuable experience for this upcoming summer. I have applied to a clinical research internship at Stanford University that focuses on training undergraduate students who are perusing a MD/PhD. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The internship will provide me with a challenging opportunity to develop skills pertaining to clinical research that will further benefit me on my career path. This was not an official application, but my information has been passed along to faculty mentors at the Hospital. 2. Why do you want to intern this summer? I believe the summer is the perfect opportunity to jump into something new and challenging in order to develop one s intellect and character. My ultimate career goal is to become a physician scientist and I feel using the summer to gain clinical skills earlier on will positively impact my career trajectory. During my undergraduate experience, I have not had many opportunities to conduct clinical research, but I am eager to learn new skills immerse myself in learning opportunities. Furthermore, an internship can provide me with unique networking opportunities to learn not only from my internship mentor, but other physician scientists and interns as well. Currently, I do not have the place to gain such connections but I am eager to form them. My experience at Richmond has allowed me to hone basic research skills, volunteer in a clinical setting, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The New Republic As if the new republic did not have enough problems, they also had to deal with the fact that there was a general dislike felt for the new regime by most of the population from both the left and the right sides. This all went back to the fact that it was these politicians who signed the Treaty of Versailles. The people found it difficult to accept that the war had been lost. From the home front, it was not obvious that the war had been lost, and so it was difficult to understand why the politicians had agreed to the Peace Talks in Versailles. The troops were upset with the political leaders and saw them as weak. They believed that they gave in to internationally pressure and that the politicians had lost the war, not the soldiers. As a result, there was a general distrust in the new government. During the Weimar Republic the stab in the back idea became popular amongst the right wing. Under this mind set, the politicians who signed the treaty were seen as the traitors, and as guilty of stabbing the troops in the back. This legend is depicted below in this cartoon which illustrates Philipp Scheidemann and Matthias Erzberger literally stabbing the German army in the back with the signing at Versailles. What many Germans did not understand, was that the war truly was lost, and that meant that Germany did not have much choice in the matter. They needed to sign the Treaty of Versailles, or they would need to deal with the consequences. While the Germans originally held firm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Geology Of Mercury Essay Mercury The geology of Mercury is similar to the geology of the Moon; although, Mercury is a much denser planet with a larger liquid iron core. The surface of Mercury is covered by impact craters and lava plains. It s believed that the surface of Mercury is geologically inactive; although, only 55% of the surface has been mapped in enough detail to see its geology. Some of the largest craters in this period were filled with lava from Mercury s interior. It s believed that vulcanism on Mercury ended during its first 700 800 million years. Craters on Mercury can be small bowl shaped pockets, or huge impact craters hundreds of kilometers across. The largest crater on Mercury is the Caloris Basin, measuring 1,550 km. Four types of plate boundaries exist: Transform bounderies occur where two lithospheric plates slide; Divergent bounderies occur where two plates slide apart from each other; Convergent bounderies occur where two plates slide toward each other; Plate boundery zones occur where the effects of the interactions are unclear. The lithosphere, which is the rigid outermost shell of a planet (on Earth, the crust and upper mantle), is broken up into tectonic plates. On Earth, there are seven or eight major plates (depending on how they are defined) and many minor plates.
