Flawless Pretty Little Liars Analysis
Have you ever lost someone important to you, but start to think their not really gone? This is the case
for four former best friends named Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily in the book Flawless Pretty little
liars by Sara Shepard. All four girls start questioning if their former friend Alison is actually alive
when they start receiving text message about their biggest secrets no one new about except Alison
who went missing just days before 8th grade started. Alison was the leader of their group back in the
7th grade and also the most popular girl in Rosewood, Pennsylvania before she went missing. Right
after those those text messages marked with A started Alison was found dead. So the girls question
was if Alison is actually gone, who s A ? The girls wore their bracelets through everything. Sometimes
they would touch their fingers to the bracelet and whisper Until the day I die to remind themselves of
how close they all were. It became their code. In fact,Ali said it less than a year later, the very last day

This setting is important to the plot because it s where Spencer comes up with a thought of who A
could be. Spencer thinks Toby is A, and he is Emily s date to Foxy. Once Spencer tells Hanna and Aria
who she thinks A is they try and find Emily before Toby could possible try to harm her. Late on in the
book Spencer says, I think A is Toby (Shepard 258). This quote is Spencer thoughts on who A is and
the girls first guess at who A could possibly be. This is important to the book because throughout the
book the girls are trying to figure out who A is and if they come up with anything they would tell
eachother. Spencer comes up with Toby being A because of him just returning to Rosewood after
being gone for years and the past Toby had with the girls including Alison. Say the girls never went to
the Foxy party, they could of still not had any clue of who A could

The Quality Of Quality Assurance Essay
Quality assurance can be defined as a system to monitor to and evaluate a product or a service. It
identifying and recommending measures to make improvements to set standards and performance and
ensuring everything is working well aiming to avoid problems keeping everything running smooth and
improve products and services. In relation to the teaching, training assessing it ensures the
product/service which the learner is receiving being to correct standard and the internal quality
assurance are the checks which are done to ensure this is occurring. The IQA Process is carried out
from the start and only ends at the completion of the product or service, in the case of the assessing is
the learner s journey through the learning cycle, and enables the learner to be tracked at each stage of
the process. Assessment and IQA is a continuous process and should be monitored and evaluated at all
times. This allows actions for improvement which can be implemented It is important that an IQA is
appointed to carry out quality assurance when assessment activities are taking place, the IQA should
include the following tasks: plan what will be monitored, from whom and when observe training and
assessor practice, and give developmental feedback sample assessment records, learners work and
assessor decisions meet with learners and others, for example, witnesses facilitate the standardisation
of assessor practice hold team meetings support assessors Upholding

Roller Coaster Erosion Research Paper
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be the lava erupting from the volcano? Well now
you have the opportunity to experience this thrill of a ride! The new ride, Erosion, is opening into our
local amusement park, Hershey Park. Not only will this be the coolest ride yet, but it will also be one
of the only roller coasters in the park that has lots of effects and themes to make it the most realistic
possible. Now you may be thinking, where is Hershey Park going to have room for another ride? The
park is packed with rides, there s no room! But Erosion will have plenty of room to be built behind the
Twin Turnpike Classic Car ride. Before entering to ride Erosion, riders should be reminded that safety
come first. As some of you may already ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this reason, this is where your ride begins. In the station you will find lots of helpful workers and
lots of buttons to get the ride going. All of this help comes from technology in the world. Accordingly,
technology is the main key when dealing with roller coasters because without it, how would the car
move? For example, it would be a pretty slow and weird ride if 20 workers were pushing the roller
coaster the entire ride! Thanks to technology, we can have much more fun. Not only technology gets
the ride moving, but a force can help greatly too. Throughout the ride, you may notice that the car and
tracks are touching. When it starts to move, the car rubs against the tracks and this creates lots of
amounts of friction. For example, when the car begins to take off out of the station, this causes friction
to be made as the affect. The car also can be identified by measuring in mass because this is where
people will be sitting. As you can tell, it will be a lot of weight. As the ride begins to move out of the
station, it goes at an approximate speed of 10 miles per hour. Although it looks like you will be
heading straight towards the erupting lava in the volcano, you will actually be going under

Gender Verification Of Olympic Sports
Gender Verification in Olympic Sports
In 1968 gender testing was introduced into the Olympics as a mandatory test. This test was put in
place to ensure that male athletes were not trying to pose as female athletes due to the unfair
advantage that they would be afforded (Wood). Though the test was carefully designed to distinguish a
man from a woman, over time it has proven to be inadequate.
One of the first cases reported concerned a female athlete named Stanisława Walasiewicz. She won
gold in the 1932 Summer Olympics for women s 100 meter, and then again in the 1936 Olympics she
won silver. It was not until 1980 when she was killed in an armed robbery that the autopsy revealed
she had both male and female body characteristics. The first athlete to fail the gender test was Ewa
Kłobukowska, a Polish athlete that ran in the 1965 Olympics in Tokyo. She competed in the women s
4x100 meter relay winning gold and the women s 100 meter where she placed third. It was not until
1967 that it was discovered that she had a rare genetic condition called mosaicism. This means that
instead of the typical XX sex chromosomes that determine the female gender, she instead had sex
chromosomes of the type XX/XXY. The Y sex chromosome is present only in males and regulates
many male associated characteristics. Although this condition did not allow for her to have an
advantage, Ewa was still banned from competing in both Olympic and professional sports. It was not
until 1999 that gender testing

Persuasive Essay On Russia s Independence
Kosovar Independence Forty five percent of Kosovo s population is in poverty, according to the World
Fact Bank. Kosovo is a self declared independent country in the South Balkans in Europe, it wants
independence, but Serbia believes that it is an autonomous province of Serbia. It declared
independence in 2008 and there are a lot of reasons why, but there are also some reasons why it should
be part of Serbia. Kosovo should be independent because Serbians have committed genocide against
ethnic Kosovar Albanians, other countries have broke free from Serbia, thus Kosovo should be able to
as well, and three out of the five members of the UN s Big Five are in agreement about the issue

And the UN is just that, an organization of nations. In the UN, there is a security council made up of 5
countries, also know as the Big Five , which are Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and the
United States. The Big Five are split on the issue, with Russia and China saying no to their
independence, and the US, UK, and France say yes to the issue. China and Russia believe that Kosovo
should become independent. One reason is that Serbia has been protected by Russia since WWI when
it helped it gain independence. Russia and China are allies, so China agrees with Russia on the issue.
On the other side, the US, UK, and France are all in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),
so they generally agree with each other, as well as the rest of NATO. Supporters of Serbian integration
of Kosovo believe that Kosovo should not become independent because it might start wars, but,
because there is a scenario that is well know, know as MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction

Double Helix Lab Report
DNA extraction and the use of PCR to detect genetic diseases
Introduction:
The double helix is indeed a remarkable molecule. Modern man is perhaps 50,000 years old,
civilization has existed for scarcely 10,000 years and the United States for only just over 200 years;
but DNA and RNA have been around for at least several billion years. All that time the double helix
has been there, and active, and yet we are the first creatures on Earth to become aware of its existence.
Francis Crick (1916 2004). DNA, the conductor in the orchestra of life. It defines everything about us,
and studying it, through genetics, is the area of biology that has always captured my imagination. The

It is used to amplify a sample of DNA, creating thousands or even millions of copies of a certain
sequence of DNA. The story of modern PCR begins in 1976 with the isolation of Taq polymerase
from the thermophilic bacterium Thermus aquaticus

However, it really became prominent in 1988 when Kary Mullis, along with the Cetus Corporation,
made the enzyme available for widespread use. This new automated use of PCR quickly made it
indispensable to medical science, being used to detect both hereditary and infectious diseases, clone
DNA, paternity tests (using genetic fingerprints) and DNA based phylogeny. In 1989, Taq Polymerase
was named the molecule of the year by Science magazine. Showing further what a ground breaking
discovery this was in the field of science, Mullis, along with Michael Smith, was awarded the Nobel
Prize in Chemistry in 1993. With this discovery, Kary Mullis had fulfilled the words of his own quote;

Discuss The Difference Between New England And The...
After waiting over 100 years before England joined the race for colonization, in 1607 England has
finally established a permanent colony in Jamestown. Years later, in 1620, supposedly trying to land in
Virginia, the Puritans accidentally landed in Plymouth Massachusetts. Therefore, while New England
and the Chesapeake region were both settled and ruled by the English, by the 1700s they had evolved
into two very separate distinct societies due to the differences in colonization, settlers, and economic
activities in each region.
The difference in colonization led to distinct societies between New England and the Chesapeake
regions. In 1607, after Sir Walter Raleigh s colony of Roanoke was unsuccessful, Jamestown was
successfully colonized and was due to an economic purpose. As stated by John Smith, Dig gold, wash
gold, refine gold, load gold (Doc 5). John Smith clearly shows how the colonists only cared about
riches. They didn t care about establishing a colony as they were occupied and focused on the path to
riches. More than half of us died (Doc 5). Due to this greed of riches and lack of control in the colony,
many settlers as a consequence died. However, due to John Smith and his control over the colony, led
Jamestown to not fail like the colony of Roanoke. Now while colonists focused on the economic gain
they would receive from Jamestown, the Puritans focused on the religious freedom they would finally
acquire. Now the Puritans wanted to separate from the Church of

What Is A Distributed Operating System Security
Distributed Operating System Security
Anthony Fuciarelli
3030 Operating Systems
Dr. Michael Johnson
22 November 2016
Distributed operating system security is that of which security is implemented on a system of
connected computers that share and run information. This type of security system is different than
your average security features that a person may have on just a laptop or home computer system. The
biggest challenge is keeping the information that flows in a distributed operating system safe, as well
as protect against the multiple threats that security in a distributed operating system face. Its important
to understand how a distributed operating system security works, as well as the many different types
of threats that the distributed operating system security will face. Before the actually security in a
distributed operating system is discussed its important to understand what a distributed operating
system is and how its different from what most users are used too. A distributed operating system can
be described as an operating system or OS that runs on multiple central processing units or CPUs but
to a user it seems like as if its all one machine. An example would be multiple computers linked
together on one network that includes other devices such as printers or scanners. Every user that
accesses these computers on this network has access to the resources and files that are on the network,
as well as the devices that are connected.

The Story Of My Life
Mom, Leya s gonna be over any second to pick me up for school. I figured I d go ahead and tell you
bye since you don t look like you re coming down anytime soon. I plucked a sloppy kiss on her cheek
as she gave me an awkward half hug while shuffling through some more papers on her desk in a
nonplussed manner.
Sorry, Babe. Have a good day at school. Oh, before you leave! I dreadfully turned back to face her in
the doorway, aware that I now had her full attention for a reason I could tell that I wasn t going to like.
This Charlie kid... he seems pleasant enough. Are you two... more than just friends, by chance?

If you re more than that, does that mean I get to come into your room?! he called from behind me

This caused me to snap my head back with my mouth completely agape as I took in the same stupid
smile on his face. How dare you?! Just... wait out here! UGH! He had me flustered, and he knew it; I
could tell by the cackle that next rose from the depths of his throat. I proceeded to change into the only
clean clothes I appeared to have left: an off the shoulder, mid sleeve cream blouse that Eric s ex
girlfriend had gotten me for my birthday (it was one of his longest relationships, and she was one
committed gal) and a pair of blue jean shorts that Leya had left at my place. It was just my luck that I
had to wear the most uncomfortable thing I owned the day Charlie unexpectedly decided to show up.
Mal? That you? Is something the matter? my mother called from the farthest reaches of her study.
Nothing, Ma! Just forgot my textbook! I yelled back.
All right! Be careful next time! We can t afford anything that s going to hinder you from getting a
scholarship! I knew she meant well, but the pressure still rose at the sharing of that comment.
Course, Mom! I then slipped quietly out the door and cleaned up the yogurt with the paper towels I
had grabbed from the kitchen on my way out the second time. I put the mess in the trash can out by

What Is Marriage From Pride And Prejudice Compared To...
Pride and Prejudice, Question 2: Marriage from Pride and Prejudice Compared to Marriage Now
Answer: In Pride and Prejudice, marriage is used not only to join two people because they love each
other, but also for financial reasons. In today s world however, people don t use marriage to help
someone financially or to boost yourself socially, but more so because two people genuinely love each
other. However, that does not mean that people do not get married for other reasons besides love,
because that does happen, but its just not as common as it probably was in the book.
1. Oh! Mr. Bennet, you are wanted immediately; we are all in an uproar. You must come and make
Lizzy marry Mr. Collins, for she vows she will not have him, and if you do not make haste he will
change his mind and not have her.
a. Context: Mrs. Bennet finds out that Elizabeth refuses to marry Mr. Collins and goes to Mr. Bennet
to get him to persuade Elizabeth to marry Mr. Collins.
b. Significance: This quote shows what marriage was like back in the time that this book takes place.
Mrs. Bennet is so focused on making sure that her daughters get married that she doesn t care what
they think, if she approves of the man, she wants her daughter to marry him. Mrs. Bennet isn t taking
into consideration her daughter s feelings whereas in modern times marriage is between two people
that actually love each other and want to be together. These days most people are more hesitant to get
married and they take their time making sure it s the right person, but in the book Mrs. Bennet is so
eager to get her daughters married that she s not takin time to make sure they re right for each other.
2. I see what you are feeling, replied Charlotte, you must be surprised, very much surprised, so lately
as Mr. Collins was wishing to marry you. But when you have had time to think it all over, I hope you
will be satisfied with what I have done. I am not romantic, you know. I never was. I ask only a
comfortable home; and considering Mr. Collins s character, connections, and situation in life, I am
convinced that my chance of happiness with him is as fair as most people can boast on entering the
marriage state.
a. Context: Elizabeth just found out that Mr.

In our modern society, the mass media and popular culture have cooperative relationships between the
dominant and subordinate group, thus the media tend to reinforce and highlight the values and images
of those who create the messages and own the means of distribution. In doing so, Disney movies
exhibit clear messages for children in general; what the media define as normal reinforces the
stereotypes of gender, while intersectionality can challenge hegemonic ideas about gender by adding
multiple different categories, It is clear that the themes and messages from Disney s popular animated
films influence females perception of gender. Laura Sells (2016) suggested the Disney version of The
Little Mermaid reinforces women s struggle to make sure they secure a place in a patriarchal society.
The Disney rendition is an allegory for women trying to gain access to the male sphere society by
sacrificing women s strength. On the other hand, I see The little Mermaid as also more liberatory
because it contains the means of its own undoing in the camp character of Ursula the Sea Witch, and
in Disney s compulsory happy ending which bestows the mermaid with both access and voice (2016,
p.177), she explains Ariel transforms her fin to feet is the way to show the conflict for women finding

How Did The Great Leap Forward And The Cultural Revolution
The research engages with the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution, two significant and
defining events in Chinese history since the establishment of the People s Republic of China. The
Great Leap Forward (1957 60) was a Chinese economic plan initiated by Mao Zedong aimed at
revitalizing all sectors of the economy. Wildly unrealistic planning poorly planned communization of
agriculture, and a poor harvest in 1959 caused mass starvation. Mao was forced to turn government
administration over to Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping. His popularity diminished severely and thus
launched the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution to regain his popularity.
The Cultural Revolution (1966 76) was the mass mobilization of urban Chinese youth inaugurated by
Mao Zedong in an attempt to prevent the development of a bureaucratized Soviet style of

democracy. This coupled with the copious allowance for free speech, in the Chinese regard, during the
Cultural Revolution and its devastating aftermath which remained potent in the lives of many
individuals lead many Chinese to lose faith in their government altogether. This loss of faith and
potency of unsavoury memories may have pushed many Chinese to look towards a better political and
social systema democratic one. Chinese society was avidly propagandistic. The aim to maintain a
strong communist hold on Chinese society through press and censorship reform had the opposite
effect, even subsequently having to be crushed. Thus the events of the Great Leap Forward and the

There are environmental factors impact the spread of infectious diseases, and the main aspects are
water supply, hygiene services, food, and climate. An absence of safe water, a lack of sanitation
facilities, loss of living situations, and insecure food would cause suffering or possible death.
Instances of epidemics are Obesity, HIV, Cholera, and Malaria (Peterson, 2002). Malaria is caused by
parasites, which are organisms live on or in a host, and get food from the same host, and the main
affection come along by mosquitoes. Additionally, not all type of mosquitoes can cause that transfer of
bugs to people of bite them. Only one type of female mosquitoes called Anopheles mosquitoes, which
transmit parasite called Plasmodium from infected people due to blood needed to grow their eggs
(WHO, 2015). These parasites live and grow inside the mosquito s salivary glands. Moreover, when a
mosquito goes for the next bite, the parasite injected into another human blood as a second host. The
growth of the parasite multiply quickly at the infected human liver, and then moved back to the red
blood cells. In a short period, approximate one or two weeks some of the malaria symptoms are
starting to illustrate like vomiting, headache, and fever. At that situation, patients should be treated
rapidly with actual medicines, or that massive spread of the parasites can destroy the red blood cells,

Comparing God And Identity
God and Jesus are not the same in terms of identity. Jesus the Son and God the Father are the same
being. Even still, Jesus himself has His own identity. The Bible explains that God is three in one in
Matthew 28:18 20. He is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They each have
different personalities and identities, yet they still form one being. God the Father plays a role in
which He oversees or generates many different things. If God and Jesus were truly the same all
around, then the scripture John 3:16 would be in vain. God the Father and God the Son (Jesus) are
actually two different people, but of the same essence. Therefore, Jesus (the Son) did not pray to
Himself in the garden of Gethsemane. He prayed to God the Father

The Slippery Slope of Gay Marriage Essay
The Slippery Slope of Gay Marriage
AFTER GAY MARRIAGE, what will become of marriage itself? Will same sex matrimony extend
marriage s stabilizing effects to homosexuals? Will gay marriage undermine family life? A lot is riding
on the answers to these questions. But the media s reflexive labeling of doubts about gay marriage as
homophobia has made it almost impossible to debate the social effects of this reform. Now with the
Supreme Court s ringing affirmation of sexual liberty in Lawrence v. Texas, that debate is
unavoidable.
Among the likeliest effects of gay marriage is to take us down a slippery slope to legalized polygamy
and quot;polyamory quot; (group marriage). Marriage will be transformed into a variety of
relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
True, a small number of relatively conservative gay spokesmen do consider the social effects of gay
matrimony, insisting that they will be beneficent, that homosexual unions will become more stable.
Yet another faction of gay rights advocates actually favors gay marriage as a step toward the abolition
of marriage itself. This group agrees that there is a slippery slope, and wants to hasten the slide down.
To consider what comes after gay marriage is not to say that gay marriage itself poses no danger to the
institution of marriage. Quite apart from the likelihood that it will usher in legalized polygamy and
polyamory, gay marriage will almost certainly weaken the belief that monogamy lies at the heart of
marriage. But to see why this is so, we will first need to reconnoiter the slippery slope.
Promoting polygamy
DURING THE 1996 congressional debate on the Defense of Marriage Act, which affirmed the ability
of the states and the federal government to withhold recognition from same sex marriages, gay
marriage advocates were put on the defensive by the polygamy question. If gays had a right to marry,
why not polygamists? Andrew Sullivan, one of gay marriage s most intelligent defenders, labeled the
question fear mongering akin to the discredited belief that interracial marriage would lead to birth
defects. quot;To the best of my knowledge, quot; said Sullivan, quot;there is no

History Of Teeth Summary
1. In the articles Where Are All The Dentist ? and History Of Teeth by Kristin Lewis proves that there
were many problems with dentist over a long period of time. The first quote proves that having bad

history caused many deaths to people. Bad teeth caused deaths because dentists back in time did not
have the right tools to fix a tooth problem so the dentist could not fix the problem. So they patient had
to live with the bad tooth witch later then caused deaths. Another quote from Lewis also proves that
money was a big issue witch caused bad dental care. Many Americas cant go to the dentist because of

Essay On The Underground Railroad In North Carolina
The Underground Railroad in North Carolina
The Underground Railroad was perhaps the most active and dramatic protest action against slavery in
United States history and as we look at the Underground Railroad in North Carolina we will focus on
the Quakers, Levi Coffin s early years, and the accounts of escaped slaves from North Carolina. The
unique blend of southern slave holder and northern abolitionist influences in the formation of North
Carolina served to make the state an important link in the efforts to end slavery inside and outside of
North Carolina borders.
Although not underground nor a railroad, this informal system became a loosely constructed network
of escape routes that originated in the South, intertwined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Levi Coffin was born on October 28, 1798 on a farm in New Garden, North Carolina, the only son of
seven children born to Quaker parents, Levi and Prudence (Williams) Coffin.
Because his father needed him to work on the farm, young Levi received the bulk of his education at
home. His home schooling proved to be a good education. As a young boy growing up in North
Carolina in the early 1800 s, Levi saw firsthand the reality of slavery. One day while he was out with
his father helping to chop wood by the roadside, a group of slaves, handcuffed and chained together,
passed by on their way to be sold in Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana. When Levi s father asked them
why they were chained, one of the men sadly replied: They have taken us away from our wives and
children, and they chain us lest we should make our escape and go back to them. 1 After the group of
slaves had gone, young Levi wondered to himself how he would feel if his father were taken away
from him.
The incident by the side of a Guilford County road marked the first stirring of Levi Coffin s sympathy
for the oppressed. Together with a strong hatred of oppression and injustice in any form, Coffin later
said these were the motives that influenced my

The Case Of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
When there is a problem in ones life whether that be the country, at their job, or within their own
families everyone s first instinct is what can be done to fix it. An intervention is an action taken to
improve a situation. As defined by Public Health 101: Health People Healthy Populations, an
intervention is defined as the full range of strategies designed to protect health and prevent disease,
disability and death. Thus, high quality evidence needs to be based on the research, which can
establish efficacy in one particular population, but also on the effectiveness of the intervention in the
specific population. (Riegelman and Kirkwood, 2015). For many public health issues interventions
play a crucial role in getting such issues under control. In the case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
(SIDS) in Native American populations infants were ranked second highest in SIDS deaths in the U.S.
at 8.7 per 1000 live births (Alexander, Wingate Boulet, 2008, p. 5). The cause of SIDS is unknown at
the moment but there are a multitude of ways parents can help prevent and reduce the risk of their
child dying from SIDS.
Intervention I: SIDS Prevention through the Back to Sleep Campaign
The major risk factor of SIDS is recognized to be prone sleeping. The Back to Sleep (BTS) campaign
was brought on when research found that parents and caregivers were wrongly informed that their
children were safer and at lower risk for SIDS if they were placed in the prone sleeping position.

Alexander Graham Bell, a man who best known for inventing the telephone. Most people don t know
he spent the majority of his life teaching and helping the deaf. Educating the hearing impaired is what
he wished to be remembered for.
Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland. His mother was a painter of miniature
portraits and also loved to play the piano even though she was nearly deaf. Aleck s mother knew that
he had a talent for music and always encouraged him to play (Matthews 12). Alexander Melville Bell,

To make sure that the student knew what part of the head the teacher was talking about, the teacher
would point to a particular part of the diagram and have the student touch that part of themselves.
When the diagram was up on the black board there were also darkened symbols on certain parts such
as the tip of nose, upper and lower lip etc. The next step was to erase all other lines and have the
student do the same procedure as before but this time they had to know where all the symbols were.
The purpose for learning all of these symbols was so that the teacher would be able to get into more
detailed diagrams and actually show the deaf student what part of the throat and mouth to move to
pronounce a particular sound (Bell 51 54).
Another way that he was able to teach his students was using the manometric, pressurized, capsule,
which enclosed a gas flame. The capsule worked when the vibrations of a voice acted on a membrane
that would expand the gas flame and result in a flickering like the teeth of a saw (Mackenzie 66). The
flickering would resemble the characteristics of a particular sound. The reason that Bell wanted to use
this device was to see if he could discover the shape or form of a vibration that was a characteristic of
the elements of English speech (Mackenzie 67). Then he could represent this information on paper for
the use of his deaf pupils. With this device he could have a pupil put his

Maximal Oxygen Consumption And The Oxygen
Maximal oxygen consumption or VO2 max refers to the single maximum oxygen consumption that an
individual can utilize during graded intensity exercise. VO2 max can be assessed through properly
administered submaximal oxygen consumption test which can include exercise test modes of
treadmill, cycle ergometer or step test. In an individual, VO2 max can be determined by the
cardiovascular system s ability to deliver oxygenated blood to working muscles and then the muscle s
ability to extract that oxygen from the blood and generate energy for work. Influencing factors can
include genetics, decline of VO2 max with aging, and finally aerobic training can positively influence
an individual s VO2 max and overall aerobic fitness. Individuals with high VO2 maxes often have
greater overall aerobic fitness, which includes high efficiency, or running economy, better glycogen
storage and is often an indicator of success when completing aerobic tasks of over 20 minutes. On the
contrary, a low VO2 max can predict poor overall aerobic fitness which can include cardiovascular
disease and problems with transporting oxygen to working muscles. (3) In these laboratory exercise
test, submaximal intensity exercises were used to determine an individual s predicted VO2 max which
allowed the assessment of their overall aerobic fitness and the ability to compare the correlations
between tests. Before performing any submaximal exercise test, the individual should be in the proper

Greek, India, and China Contributions
Today, our lives are based on technology. We have computers, iPods, phones, televisions, etc... but,
what about the unnoticeable contributions that affect us more than we could imagine. The screw for
example. The screw is everywhere around us. In fact its in your computers, televisions, iPods, and
phones. The screw holds your more significant objects together in place. Like the screw the
contributions of Greece, India, and China all have an impact on us today but it goes unnoticeable. All
of these civilizations were created around the same time and fell around the same time period. Even
though all these civilizations took place in around the same time period they all have very different
impacts on the world we have today. In the times of Ancient Greece, India, and China there were
numerous contributions that influenced us today, but, Greece had more contributions in math and
medicine that lead them to have the greatest overall impact on us today. Greece has contributed a lot to
society today in the medical field and in mathematics. Starting with medicine, the modern day medical
symbol was derived from Greece. The god Asclepius (the god of health) thought snakes were holy so
he created the medical symbol we know of today of a staff coiled around a staff with wings (Michael
and Woods, Ancient medicine: from sorcery to surgery, 56). Hippocrates was a great Greek physician
and was known as the father of medicine. Hippocrates introduced a scientific way to find out how to

Christian Ethics Research Paper
Everyone in the world has some sort of ethics on how to live. It is a way to examine what is good and
right and an explanation of how people think and act. Everyone also has moral absolutism, which acts
as a moral compass for right and wrong. There are numerous types of ethics but one main one I abide
by are the Ten Commandments. This includes commands such as: no other gods before Him, do not
steal, murder, commit adultery, do not misuse the name of God, and keep the sabbath holy. Each one
has a reason I value and believe is important to keep. For example, the first commandment is no other
gods before Him , this is important for me to keep because, as a Christian, I must regard God as the

Many worldviews have multiple opinions of psychology, but no one knows this better than Christians.
Scientists have confirmed that humans do have a spirit, but do not declare whether it is needed for
living. If one has a biblical worldview then one has a view on Christian psychology. Christian
recognize the metaphysical world and there are multiple verses in the Bible agreeing with this view
point, an example would be in John 4:24, God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in
spirit and truth. The Bible states that man is more than just human, but also contains a spirit. A well
respected neuro physiologist, Sir John Eccles, believes mind and body dualism explains the
occurrence of hyper awareness and ultimately mind and body dualism. Paul Weiss states , Even
though I know I am constantly changing, all molecules are changing, everything in me is being turned
over substantially, there is nevertheless my identity, my consciousness of being essentially the same
that I was 20 years ago. However much I may have changed, the continuity of my identity has
remained undisrupted. Due to the constant changing, no one would be able to have an identity if they
have did not have a soul or in fact, something spiritual inside of them. When Christians accept Christ
as his savior he is not only declaring with his mouth but his spirit as well. In Ephesians 6:11 17 it

The Pilgrim s Progress
Faithful is just a guy who, like Christian, escapes his past life and pursues a life that is down the
straight and narrow path of Christianity. A Righteous man, ridiculed, tortured, and finally burnt at the
stake for his faith, Faithful lives up to his name and is the martyr of The Pilgrim s Progress the one
who suffers and dies for what he believes in. Before Christian meets Faithful on the road from the
Palace Beautiful, Christian seems to be the only real pilgrim on the journey to the Celestial City. The
others pilgrims he has met on his journey (Formalist and Hypocrisy, Mr. Worldly Wiseman, Mr.
Pliable) have either abandoned the journey for its extreme struggles or for being shown the hollowness
of their faith. But Faithful is different unlike his friends he did not have a hollow faith so when he
faced the trials and tribulations he did not deal with them because of his strong faith in the Lord. ...

As the two share their stories of their journey so far, having come from the same town, It becomes
clear that Faithful s earnestness is at least equal to Christian s. His resistance to Wanton, Adam the
first, and Moses differ from Christian s encounters, but you might say that this represents the variety
of obstacles one can face on such a journey. Faithful s death at Vanity Fair lets in a new sense of
danger to the story. The death of one of the pilgrims is foretold by Evangelist. At the trial, however, it
s Faithful s passionate defense that peg him for execution. It s also important to note that, in his speech
to the jury, he s defending not so much himself as Christ and condemning anyone who is against

The Role of Binary Linguistic Oppositions in the Context of War
Most novels on war usually perceive only one side in the realm. An author like Timothy Findley can
make a novel less about war but more about the physiological impact on ones mind because of war.
The Wars is a very powerful and disturbing book with plenty of linguistic contexts. Timothy Findley s
Governor General s Award winning novel of the First World War tells the story of Robert Ross, a
young Canadian who enlists himself in the army after the death of his sister, Rowena. Robert has to
cope with challenges of war, and make the transition into manhood and develop new beliefs in order
to survive the war. Robert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It grants the reader with the ability to choose which characters should be crowned as mentally strong
or weak according to their actions; it runs in a close relation to the distinction of friend and enemy,
which is another psychological battle that many soldiers encounter during the war.
In the novel, The Wars, Findley frames the distinction of friend and enemy in a manner that is
unavoidable. Similar to sanity and insanity, the deconstruction of friend and enemy becomes apparent
after the physical war comes into play. One of the predominant events containing the friend and
enemy opposition is illustrated when Robert encounters the young German soldier. The young
German soldier was wearing [...] a pair of woollen mittens that had no fingers (Findley 128). It
becomes evident to the readers that the description of the German soldier is in close relation to one of
Robert s friends: Harris. In fact, earlier in the novel, the archivist states, [...]the men who took your
fire(and returned it) wore blue scarves or had grey mittens like your own (Findley 82). Findley uses
these events as critical points in order to get the readers to disrupt their thought patterns, and question
their beliefs of friend and enemy. Although the German soldier is armed, he

The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer was a famed late 14th century English poet and author. Born in London in 1343,
Chaucer s early life or education is not well known. Most of what is known about him stems from his
professional work. He is most well known for his works as an author and poet. Amongst scholars he is
accredited the title of Father of English literature and is widely considered to be one of, if not outright,
the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages. Chaucer would write many well known works over the
course of the latter half of his life, his most famous and critically acclaimed literary work being The
Canterbury Tales. With Chaucer starting composition between 1386 and 1389, The Canterbury Tales
was originally envisioned by him to be an anthology of four stories from each of the twenty nine
characters that are introduced in the General Prologue of the book. Unfortunately, either due to
revising or his untimely death on October 25, 1400 at the age of 57, only 24 stories out of a proposed
120 were completed, leaving The Canterbury Tales far from completion. Nevertheless, its incomplete
status did not stop the work from becoming highly popular. The Canterbury Tales story revolves
around a narrator who joins a group twenty nine people on a spring time pilgrimage to Canterbury.
Each character is described in detail of both their looks and personality by the narrator and at the
request of the host of the inn the group stays at, each character tells an amusing story to spend time

Zombie Apocalypse Effect
Zombie apocalypse films are traditionally set in a post cataclysmic event that has left world wide
destruction and change. The zombies are usually portrayed as cannibalistic monsters, who scavenge
the remaining earth looking for food. Possible causes for zombie behavior in a modern population can
be attributed to viruses, bacteria or other phenomena that reduce the mental capacity of humans
causing them to behave in a very primitive and destructive fashion. Humans have to survive and
prosper, with the mayhem of trying not to be eaten everyday, while trying to establish a sense of
government and order. This causes conflict between the protagonist and the zombies which is usually
resolved by finding a cure. These films, due to their complex storylines, interesting characters, and
possible world altering implications, have attracted large crowds at the theaters for many years.

To conclude, zombie apocalypse films have captured audiences attention for many years and years to

all follow the same foundation. The world could come to an end or humans can battle back and restore

Fall Prevention In The Elderly Essay
Quality Improvement for Fall Prevention in the Elderly
The occurrence of falls among the elderly is related to multiple factors, such as inherent and external
issues. Studies have proven that when appropriate intervention is put in place, falls are preventable. A
quality improvement according to Polit Beck (2012) is created to examine the willingness of
individuals to understand these studies and put them into practice or to appraise the results of
interventions already in place. This paper will examine a practice issue facilitated by the advanced
practice nurse (APN), explore the theoretical underpinning of change, describe an improvement tool
and model for improvement and allocated resources towards the prevention of fall among the elderly.
Selected Practice Issue
The occurrence of falls in older adults are common and can result in serious injuries, even death.
Owing to multifaceted changes in the aging, falls and related injuries are rampant in the healthcare
settings. Moreover, the decline in the involvement and inspirational level of older adults in fall
prevention measures continues to be a challenge. Hence, increasing the motivational level of this older
populace in fall preventive plans is of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who ensure that interventions are in place and implemented as ordered. The eventual objective of

Aging And Its Effects On The Aging
Also spelled as ageing, this is generally the process of becoming old. It is the in a way the opposite of
immortality. In a broader aspect, it may occur to single cells in an organism also called cellular
senescence or the population of a species, known as population ageing. This process primarily affects
human beings and fungi. In humans, it signifies the accumulation of various changes which occur over
time. The changes include physical, social and psychological changes.
Causes of aging are very uncertain. Besides, there are several factors which predispose an individual

The genitourinary system
The bladder and urinary tract depict the epitome of various old age associated conditions. Urinary
incontinence otherwise known as loss of bladder control is a common problem associated with aging.
Besides old age, diabetes and other conditions also contribute to incontinence. Other common
conditions include menopause for women and enlarged prostate for men.
Memory
Advancing age is commonly associated with loss of memory. The inability to maintain both short term
and long term memory is serious. Learning new things or remembering familiar words and names can
be quite daunting.
Senses Eyes and Ears
Advancing age is a common hindrance to the proper functioning of the body senses. The eyes will
have difficulty focusing on near and distant objects. Adapting to different levels of light is the other
common problem. Cataracts, also called clouding of vision is another common condition that results
from changes in eye s lens. Hearing abilities also diminish. With this, you will have difficulties
following a conversation or hearing high frequencies.

What Are The Sources Of The Witches In Macbeth
Shakespeare s sources for this tragedy are the accounts of king Macbeth of Scotland, Macduff, and
Duncan their origin lies in Holinshed s Chronicles (1587), a history of England, Scotland and Ireland.
The other sources that help Shakespeare put the play together, include British folktale, such
contemporary treatises on witchcraft as King James VI of Scotland s Daemonologie, Scandinavian
legends of the Norns, and ancient classical myths of the Fates: the Greek Moirai and the Roman
Parcae.
The Three Witches or Weird Sisters in Shakespeare s play Macbeth (1603 1607).
Were depictions of Holinshed s sisters creatures of the elderwood... nymphs or faries (Chronicles 268).
Nymphs are usually portrayed as goddesses of the forests; mountains, waters and they possess an
unlimited contract of youthful beauty, endued with knowledge of prophecies by their necromenticall
science. Other topical evidence, there is Matthew Gwinne s brief Latin pageant, Tres Sibyllae (Three

  • 4. Roller Coaster Erosion Research Paper Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to be the lava erupting from the volcano? Well now you have the opportunity to experience this thrill of a ride! The new ride, Erosion, is opening into our local amusement park, Hershey Park. Not only will this be the coolest ride yet, but it will also be one of the only roller coasters in the park that has lots of effects and themes to make it the most realistic possible. Now you may be thinking, where is Hershey Park going to have room for another ride? The park is packed with rides, there s no room! In the station you will find lots of helpful workers and lots of buttons to get the ride going. All of this help comes from technology in the world. Accordingly, technology is the main key when dealing with roller coasters because without it, how would the car move? For example, it would be a pretty slow and weird ride if 20 workers were pushing the roller coaster the entire ride! Thanks to technology, we can have much more fun. Not only technology gets the ride moving, but a force can help greatly too. Throughout the ride, you may notice that the car and tracks are touching. When it starts to move, the car rubs against the tracks and this creates lots of amounts of friction. For example, when the car begins to take off out of the station, this causes friction to be made as the affect. The car also can be identified by measuring in mass because this is where people will be sitting. As you can tell, it will be a lot of weight. As the ride begins to move out of the station, it goes at an approximate speed of 10 miles per hour. Although it looks like you will be heading straight towards the erupting lava in the volcano, you will actually be going under ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gender Verification Of Olympic Sports Gender Verification in Olympic Sports In 1968 gender testing was introduced into the Olympics as a mandatory test. This test was put in place to ensure that male athletes were not trying to pose as female athletes due to the unfair advantage that they would be afforded (Wood). Though the test was carefully designed to distinguish a man from a woman, over time it has proven to be inadequate. One of the first cases reported concerned a female athlete named Stanisława Walasiewicz. She won gold in the 1932 Summer Olympics for women s 100 meter, and then again in the 1936 Olympics she won silver. It was not until 1980 when she was killed in an armed robbery that the autopsy revealed she had both male and female body characteristics. The first athlete to fail the gender test was Ewa Kłobukowska, a Polish athlete that ran in the 1965 Olympics in Tokyo. She competed in the women s 4x100 meter relay winning gold and the women s 100 meter where she placed third. It was not until 1967 that it was discovered that she had a rare genetic condition called mosaicism. This means that instead of the typical XX sex chromosomes that determine the female gender, she instead had sex chromosomes of the type XX/XXY. The Y sex chromosome is present only in males and regulates many male associated characteristics. Although this condition did not allow for her to have an advantage, Ewa was still banned from competing in both Olympic and professional sports. It was not until 1999 that gender testing ... • 6. Persuasive Essay On Russia s Independence Kosovar Independence Forty five percent of Kosovo s population is in poverty, according to the World Fact Bank. Kosovo is a self declared independent country in the South Balkans in Europe, it wants independence, but Serbia believes that it is an autonomous province of Serbia. It declared independence in 2008 and there are a lot of reasons why, but there are also some reasons why it should be part of Serbia. Kosovo should be independent because Serbians have committed genocide against ethnic Kosovar Albanians, other countries have broke free from Serbia, thus Kosovo should be able to as well, and three out of the five members of the UN s Big Five are in agreement about the issue (UN.org). First off, the Serbians committed genocide to ethnic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the UN is just that, an organization of nations. In the UN, there is a security council made up of 5 countries, also know as the Big Five , which are Russia, China, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The Big Five are split on the issue, with Russia and China saying no to their independence, and the US, UK, and France say yes to the issue. China and Russia believe that Kosovo should become independent. One reason is that Serbia has been protected by Russia since WWI when it helped it gain independence. Russia and China are allies, so China agrees with Russia on the issue. On the other side, the US, UK, and France are all in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), so they generally agree with each other, as well as the rest of NATO. Supporters of Serbian integration of Kosovo believe that Kosovo should not become independent because it might start wars, but, because there is a scenario that is well know, know as MAD, or Mutually Assured Destruction (Nieuwint). MAD is a scenario in which the US and Russia are at war and they destroy each other, and the world. Since the US is pro Kosovo, and Russia is anti Kosovo, people in both countries know that they cannot start a war or else the world could be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Double Helix Lab Report DNA extraction and the use of PCR to detect genetic diseases Introduction: The double helix is indeed a remarkable molecule. Modern man is perhaps 50,000 years old, civilization has existed for scarcely 10,000 years and the United States for only just over 200 years; but DNA and RNA have been around for at least several billion years. • 8. Discuss The Difference Between New England And The... After waiting over 100 years before England joined the race for colonization, in 1607 England has finally established a permanent colony in Jamestown. Years later, in 1620, supposedly trying to land in Virginia, the Puritans accidentally landed in Plymouth Massachusetts. Therefore, while New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled and ruled by the English, by the 1700s they had evolved into two very separate distinct societies due to the differences in colonization, settlers, and economic activities in each region. The difference in colonization led to distinct societies between New England and the Chesapeake regions. In 1607, after Sir Walter Raleigh s colony of Roanoke was unsuccessful, Jamestown was successfully colonized and was due to an economic purpose. As stated by John Smith, Dig gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold (Doc 5). John Smith clearly shows how the colonists only cared about riches. They didn t care about establishing a colony as they were occupied and focused on the path to riches. More than half of us died (Doc 5). Due to this greed of riches and lack of control in the colony, many settlers as a consequence died. However, due to John Smith and his control over the colony, led Jamestown to not fail like the colony of Roanoke. Now while colonists focused on the economic gain they would receive from Jamestown, the Puritans focused on the religious freedom they would finally acquire. What Is A Distributed Operating System Security Distributed Operating System Security Anthony Fuciarelli 3030 Operating Systems Dr. Michael Johnson 22 November 2016 Distributed operating system security is that of which security is implemented on a system of connected computers that share and run information. This type of security system is different than your average security features that a person may have on just a laptop or home computer system. The biggest challenge is keeping the information that flows in a distributed operating system safe, as well as protect against the multiple threats that security in a distributed operating system face. Its important to understand how a distributed operating system security works, as well as the many different types of threats that the distributed operating system security will face. Before the actually security in a distributed operating system is discussed its important to understand what a distributed operating system is and how its different from what most users are used too. A distributed operating system can be described as an operating system or OS that runs on multiple central processing units or CPUs but to a user it seems like as if its all one machine. An example would be multiple computers linked together on one network that includes other devices such as printers or scanners. Every user that accesses these computers on this network has access to the resources and files that are on the network, as well as the devices that are connected. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. What Is Marriage From Pride And Prejudice Compared To... Pride and Prejudice, Question 2: Marriage from Pride and Prejudice Compared to Marriage Now Answer: In Pride and Prejudice, marriage is used not only to join two people because they love each other, but also for financial reasons. In today s world however, people don t use marriage to help someone financially or to boost yourself socially, but more so because two people genuinely love each other. However, that does not mean that people do not get married for other reasons besides love, because that does happen, but its just not as common as it probably was in the book. 1. Oh! Mr. Bennet, you are wanted immediately; we are all in an uproar. You must come and make Lizzy marry Mr. Collins, for she vows she will not have him, and if you do not make haste he will change his mind and not have her. a. Context: Mrs. Bennet finds out that Elizabeth refuses to marry Mr. Collins and goes to Mr. Bennet to get him to persuade Elizabeth to marry Mr. Collins. b. Significance: This quote shows what marriage was like back in the time that this book takes place. Mrs. Bennet is so focused on making sure that her daughters get married that she doesn t care what they think, if she approves of the man, she wants her daughter to marry him. Mrs. Bennet isn t taking into consideration her daughter s feelings whereas in modern times marriage is between two people that actually love each other and want to be together. These days most people are more hesitant to get married and they take their time making sure it s the right person, but in the book Mrs. Bennet is so eager to get her daughters married that she s not takin time to make sure they re right for each other. 2. I see what you are feeling, replied Charlotte, you must be surprised, very much surprised, so lately as Mr. Collins was wishing to marry you. But when you have had time to think it all over, I hope you will be satisfied with what I have done. I am not romantic, you know. I never was. I ask only a comfortable home; and considering Mr. Collins s character, connections, and situation in life, I am convinced that my chance of happiness with him is as fair as most people can boast on entering the marriage state. a. The Female And Female Relationship SOSC 1920 Male and Female Relationship Essay Cheryl Chi Yue Leung 214185045 Submitted to: Karen Ruddy Submitted date: March 10th, 2016 In our modern society, the mass media and popular culture have cooperative relationships between the dominant and subordinate group, thus the media tend to reinforce and highlight the values and images of those who create the messages and own the means of distribution. In doing so, Disney movies exhibit clear messages for children in general; what the media define as normal reinforces the stereotypes of gender, while intersectionality can challenge hegemonic ideas about gender by adding multiple different categories, It is clear that the themes and messages from Disney s popular animated films influence females perception of gender. Laura Sells (2016) suggested the Disney version of The Little Mermaid reinforces women s struggle to make sure they secure a place in a patriarchal society. The Disney rendition is an allegory for women trying to gain access to the male sphere society by sacrificing women s strength. On the other hand, I see The little Mermaid as also more liberatory because it contains the means of its own undoing in the camp character of Ursula the Sea Witch, and in Disney s compulsory happy ending which bestows the mermaid with both access and voice (2016, p.177), she explains Ariel transforms her fin to feet is the way to show the conflict for women finding her place in ... Will same sex matrimony extend marriage s stabilizing effects to homosexuals? Will gay marriage undermine family life? A lot is riding on the answers to these questions. But the media s reflexive labeling of doubts about gay marriage as homophobia has made it almost impossible to debate the social effects of this reform. Now with the Supreme Court s ringing affirmation of sexual liberty in Lawrence v. Texas, that debate is unavoidable. Among the likeliest effects of gay marriage is to take us down a slippery slope to legalized polygamy and quot;polyamory quot; (group marriage). True, a small number of relatively conservative gay spokesmen do consider the social effects of gay matrimony, insisting that they will be beneficent, that homosexual unions will become more stable. Yet another faction of gay rights advocates actually favors gay marriage as a step toward the abolition of marriage itself. This group agrees that there is a slippery slope, and wants to hasten the slide down. To consider what comes after gay marriage is not to say that gay marriage itself poses no danger to the institution of marriage. Quite apart from the likelihood that it will usher in legalized polygamy and polyamory, gay marriage will almost certainly weaken the belief that monogamy lies at the heart of marriage. But to see why this is so, we will first need to reconnoiter the slippery slope. Promoting polygamy DURING THE 1996 congressional debate on the Defense of Marriage Act, which affirmed the ability of the states and the federal government to withhold recognition from same sex marriages, gay marriage advocates were put on the defensive by the polygamy question. If gays had a right to marry, why not polygamists? Thus, high quality evidence needs to be based on the research, which can establish efficacy in one particular population, but also on the effectiveness of the intervention in the specific population. • 26. Maximal Oxygen Consumption And The Oxygen Maximal oxygen consumption or VO2 max refers to the single maximum oxygen consumption that an individual can utilize during graded intensity exercise. VO2 max can be assessed through properly administered submaximal oxygen consumption test which can include exercise test modes of treadmill, cycle ergometer or step test. In an individual, VO2 max can be determined by the cardiovascular system s ability to deliver oxygenated blood to working muscles and then the muscle s ability to extract that oxygen from the blood and generate energy for work. Influencing factors can include genetics, decline of VO2 max with aging, and finally aerobic training can positively influence an individual s VO2 max and overall aerobic fitness. Individuals with high VO2 maxes often have greater overall aerobic fitness, which includes high efficiency, or running economy, better glycogen storage and is often an indicator of success when completing aerobic tasks of over 20 minutes. On the contrary, a low VO2 max can predict poor overall aerobic fitness which can include cardiovascular disease and problems with transporting oxygen to working muscles. Greece has contributed a lot to society today in the medical field and in mathematics. Starting with medicine, the modern day medical symbol was derived from Greece. The god Asclepius (the god of health) thought snakes were holy so he created the medical symbol we know of today of a staff coiled around a staff with wings (Michael and Woods, Ancient medicine: from sorcery to surgery, 56). • 28. Christian Ethics Research Paper Everyone in the world has some sort of ethics on how to live. It is a way to examine what is good and right and an explanation of how people think and act. Everyone also has moral absolutism, which acts as a moral compass for right and wrong. There are numerous types of ethics but one main one I abide by are the Ten Commandments. This includes commands such as: no other gods before Him, do not steal, murder, commit adultery, do not misuse the name of God, and keep the sabbath holy. Each one has a reason I value and believe is important to keep. For example, the first commandment is no other gods before Him , this is important for me to keep because, as a Christian, I must regard God as the most important thing in my life. Sometimes this ... Scientists have confirmed that humans do have a spirit, but do not declare whether it is needed for living. If one has a biblical worldview then one has a view on Christian psychology. Christian recognize the metaphysical world and there are multiple verses in the Bible agreeing with this view point, an example would be in John 4:24, God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth. The Bible states that man is more than just human, but also contains a spirit. A well respected neuro physiologist, Sir John Eccles, believes mind and body dualism explains the occurrence of hyper awareness and ultimately mind and body dualism. Paul Weiss states , Even though I know I am constantly changing, all molecules are changing, everything in me is being turned over substantially, there is nevertheless my identity, my consciousness of being essentially the same that I was 20 years ago. However much I may have changed, the continuity of my identity has remained undisrupted. Due to the constant changing, no one would be able to have an identity if they have did not have a soul or in fact, something spiritual inside of them. A Righteous man, ridiculed, tortured, and finally burnt at the stake for his faith, Faithful lives up to his name and is the martyr of The Pilgrim s Progress the one who suffers and dies for what he believes in. Before Christian meets Faithful on the road from the Palace Beautiful, Christian seems to be the only real pilgrim on the journey to the Celestial City. The others pilgrims he has met on his journey (Formalist and Hypocrisy, Mr. Worldly Wiseman, Mr. Pliable) have either abandoned the journey for its extreme struggles or for being shown the hollowness of their faith. But Faithful is different unlike his friends he did not have a hollow faith so when he faced the trials and tribulations he did not deal with them because of his strong faith in the Lord. ... Faithful s death at Vanity Fair lets in a new sense of danger to the story. The death of one of the pilgrims is foretold by Evangelist. Deconstruction Essay Gajan Langeswaran Mr. Devereux ENG 4U0 May 11, 2013 The Role of Binary Linguistic Oppositions in the Context of War Most novels on war usually perceive only one side in the realm. An author like Timothy Findley can make a novel less about war but more about the physiological impact on ones mind because of war. The Wars is a very powerful and disturbing book with plenty of linguistic contexts. Timothy Findley s Governor General s Award winning novel of the First World War tells the story of Robert Ross, a young Canadian who enlists himself in the army after the death of his sister, Rowena. It grants the reader with the ability to choose which characters should be crowned as mentally strong or weak according to their actions; it runs in a close relation to the distinction of friend and enemy, which is another psychological battle that many soldiers encounter during the war. In the novel, The Wars, Findley frames the distinction of friend and enemy in a manner that is unavoidable. Similar to sanity and insanity, the deconstruction of friend and enemy becomes apparent after the physical war comes into play. One of the predominant events containing the friend and enemy opposition is illustrated when Robert encounters the young German soldier. The young German soldier was wearing [...] a pair of woollen mittens that had no fingers (Findley 128). It becomes evident to the readers that the description of the German soldier is in close relation to one of Robert s friends: Harris. In fact, earlier in the novel, the archivist states, [...]the men who took your fire(and returned it) wore blue scarves or had grey mittens like your own (Findley 82). Findley uses these events as critical points in order to get the readers to disrupt their thought patterns, and question their beliefs of friend and enemy. • 32. The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer Essay Geoffrey Chaucer was a famed late 14th century English poet and author. Born in London in 1343, Chaucer s early life or education is not well known. Most of what is known about him stems from his professional work. He is most well known for his works as an author and poet. Amongst scholars he is accredited the title of Father of English literature and is widely considered to be one of, if not outright, the greatest English poet of the Middle Ages. Chaucer would write many well known works over the course of the latter half of his life, his most famous and critically acclaimed literary work being The Canterbury Tales. With Chaucer starting composition between 1386 and 1389, The Canterbury Tales was originally envisioned by him to be an anthology of four stories from each of the twenty nine characters that are introduced in the General Prologue of the book. Unfortunately, either due to revising or his untimely death on October 25, 1400 at the age of 57, only 24 stories out of a proposed 120 were completed, leaving The Canterbury Tales far from completion. Nevertheless, its incomplete status did not stop the work from becoming highly popular. The Canterbury Tales story revolves around a narrator who joins a group twenty nine people on a spring time pilgrimage to Canterbury. Each character is described in detail of both their looks and personality by the narrator and at the request of the host of the inn the group stays at, each character tells an amusing story to spend time ...
