A Vibrant Hippie History
Jacqueline N February 10, 2012 AP/ US History Ms. Lombardi Period 5 Colorful Hippies To many it
may seem as the glorifying symbol that describes the era of the 1960s, but to others not so much. The
Hippies showed a different part of reality to us and to the world, a part that we did not know existed
but that caused great harm to us. Hippies were members of a reform movement that was absolutely
unnecessary to society. This is due to the reason that it caused the destruction of American principles
while causing no positive effect on the nation. The reform movement caused by the Hippies was
provoked by certain events that affected the US during the sixties, as well as topics that were of great
concern to them, this caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It became like a virus, not only was the whole nation being infected by these inappropriate behaviors
but some began to follow them and believed it was something right to do. What many did not know
was that the American principles were slowly vanishing as this new liberal form of behavior took over
very gradually across the nation. Over time Hippies took it to the extreme changing their appearance,
food and basic roles of women. For instance, during the Hippie movement Hippie men let their hair
grow very long while women went braless and sometimes even shirtless exposing their body to the
exterior world(Mortal Journey 1). Moreover despite high schools in the US had strict dress codes,
which did not allow girls to wear jeans or any sort of pants, they had to wear skirts even if the weather
was extremely cold but the Hippie girls began to wear pants to school to feel more free (Holland

Early music from America
Music with influence from Europe always uses a number of instruments, together with vocalists and
choirs. In some instances, the most current instruments like electric guitars are used together with the
traditional instruments of an orchestra. One prominent artist within this field was Hildegard of Bingen.
Hildegard was always known as a very influential nun during the time of middle ages and developed a
number of compositions that had unearthly beaury. One of such great composition is O pastor
animarum. This music is highly held up in the west to illustrate ... Show more content on

Composers like Amy Beach did counter this by generating very nice and serious music (Burkholder
Grout, 2014). Amy Beach usually composes Romantic classical music, which majority is yet to
compare with that of composers such as Brahmns. This music worked both unintentionally and
intentionally to assist the new America nation to seal its cultural identity separately from the European
countries. One great example of this kind of compositions is Beach s Gaelic Symphony, the kind of
musical elements which pay honor to the Scottish and Irish settlers who played great role in the
history of America (Monson Marvin, 2013).
Tin Pan Alley music
Tin Pan Alley music rose to the fame at the start of the 20th century, the same time the United States
was starting its meteoric rise to cultural greatness that is enjoying currently. This music always appear
very bright and happy. Composers like Gershwin were well known for developing pieces that were
brooding and dark. That is to say, they were music that had exuded optimism. Rhapsody in Blue, by
Gershwin is one of the prominent and most innovative piece that arose from this genre. Within this
music, Gershwin blended jazz and classical music to come up with a very unique style of music

Appearance And Court Case Analysis
In the legal field, key to presenting competence to your client, opposing attorneys, and the court,
appearance stands. Reviewing persons in the legal field remains a head to toe scrutiny, since if your
appearance portrays competence, until there exists a mishandling of the case or the client, their
confidence in the firm remains solid. Upon studying the slides of the Professional Law Firm slides, the
evaluation follows:
Slide 1 appears to be a female junior attorney and a male junior attorney discussing a case in front of a
male senior attorney in the law firm. The female attorney ensemble consists of a gray pinstriped suit
jacket with a pale blue blouse. With her top button unfastened, her hair up and formal, no distracting
makeup or jewelry, her appearance seems a casual formal attire. The males dressed formally, dark
suits, both ties and hair view appropriate for their position. The two junior attorneys appear to be
inside the professional space bubble, without knowing what their conversation concerns, the males
smile seems inappropriate. The senior attorney s desk consists of a well ordered and properly arranged
appearance, over all a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once in court a judge called a recess, in order for an attorney to get his jacket and tie. The attorney

Consequences Of PBL Corporal Punishment
PBL Corporal Punishment April 19, 2017, will mark the fortieth anniversary of the historic Ingraham
v. Wright ruling. Although perhaps not as well known as other Supreme Court cases such, as Marbury
v. Madison (which will forever be tattooed on any U.S. History student s brain), it is still a milestone
in America s past, one whose repercussions echo to this day. Ingraham v. Wright concluded that
corporal punishment in schools was not a violation of a student s constitutional rights, as James
Ingraham, a student whose severe punishment necessitated medical attention, had proposed
(Oluwole). In the end, the judge adhered to this American tradition by defending it as reasonable, not
excessive, and by allowing it to continue with only a few regulations ... Show more content on

Wright case. Forty years since the United States, the same country whose constitution protects its
citizen from cruel and unusual punishment, defended physical aggression against children. It s been
forty years, and many things have changed: the Iron Curtain fell, Britney Spears had her iconic mental
breakdown, and (thankfully) parachute pants went out of style. However, corporal punishment has
continued to be practiced in thousands of schools, despite innumerable case studies, experiments, and
testimonies that deny its validity. Corporal punishment should stop being practiced in schools because
it does not fix behavioral issues and because it leaves lasting physical and emotional scars on a child.
It is a relic of a different era, a method that has been tried and that has failed. Why our society
continues to implement this unqualified method astonishes not only American citizens, but nations
across the world. America, you laud yourself on your equality, your fairness, your haven for the
oppressed and beaten down. However, both allow and defend unconstitutional, cruel punishment in
you schools, where your children spend their days. It is time to end this practice, if not for the morality
of the situation, but for the cost it places on your forward

Green Architecture and the Environment
Introduction
Green Architecture
Definition and Origin
Green architecture or Sustainable building is the practice of building homes which are environment
friendly and resource efficient throughout its life time. It is a way of reacting to the global economic
crisis, environmental issues, growing human population, destruction of natural resources and the loss
of biodiversity. While it may seem that this practice started only a few decades ago when
environmentalists and conservationist were given life, the ancient people put it up to use already way
back in their own times. The Anasazi Indians, for example, had built their homes in oriented in the
path of light during the day. This provided them with enough heating and sunlight for their ... Show

And one way to do this is by having a good water and waste management. Through this management
water usage would be efficient and at the same time effective. And one way to manage water is by
applying grey water system. This system says that used water is not totally useless, and thus can be
used for something else like gardening. About 28% of the freshwater are used for toilets. To lessen
this, composting toilets can be used. Composting toilets aerobic decomposition. Another way of
utilizing water is by rainwater harvesting. Rainwater Harvesting is a process that accumulates and
stores freshwater from the rain and the accumulated water is then used for other household purposes
such as gardening.
Building placement and size are also considered in Green Architecture. Although manyt may envision
a green building in a rural, forested environment, this building placement may be detrimental to its
surrounding. The wastes that the household produces end up lying around their home. Plus, the cost of
energy required for transportation is higher when you are away from the suburb. This may cause
higher carbon emissions too. Green buildings are also preferably small in size. This is to minimize the
waste produced by the household from cleaning, air conditioning etc. Also, architects suggest that
green houses be one storey to maximize space and lessen wastes.

The World s Largest Hot Dry Land Desert
At about 3.6 million square mile, the Sahara Desert, located across North Africa, is the world s largest
hot dry land desert. It was not until the early 1960 s that the impact of the dry land received attention.
Known as the Sahel, the region was previously known for its wet arable land. Present day, the Sahel
has taken the form of a semi arid dry land that expands over eleven African states: Egypt, Mauritania,
Mali, Algeria, Chad, Sudan, Niger, Tunisia, Morocco, and Western Sahara. Desertification, or arable
land degradation, has occurred in the Sahel over the past ten thousand years, dating back to the ice
age. During the Pre Classical era many ancient civilizations found home at the Nile River Valley.
Plentiful monsoon rains permeated the Sahel, but water on the surface of the Sahel has decreased
significantly as desertification has inversely increased, leaving only unreachable underground water
reservoirs. Stress is put on the Sahel region from services: agriculture, forage, energy, raw materials,
etc. Gradually over time the carbon build up in the atmosphere has caused increased water vapor
instead of it being recycled into rainwater. Without rain water plants, or autotrophs, cannot perform
adequate photosynthesis and carbon fixation, thus carbon build up continues to occur further trapping
carbon in the atmosphere and increasing global climate.
Stefan Kröpelin, a German archaeologist, studied the vast reaches of the Sahara during the late 20th
century. For decades he

The Positive Effects Of Cooperative Learning
1 The positive effects of cooperative learning
Many different researchers in different academic fields undertook experimental studies to compare the
effects of the cooperative learning methods and the traditional teaching methods on student learning
and other outcomes. These varied fields are as follows: principles and methods of teaching (Kilic,
2008); and accounting education (Hwang, Lui Tong, 2005); mathematics and science; Nattiv, 1994;
Vaughan, 2002); social studies (Lampe, Rooze Tallent Runnels, 1996; Adeyemi, 2008); geography
(Yager, Johnson, Johnson, 1985); chemical bonding (Doymus, 2008a Doymus, 2008b).
Cooperative learning has been shown to promote more positive attitudes of students toward their own
learning than do competitive or individualistic learning environments because students work together

Furthermore, cooperative learning facilitates greater improvement in self esteem than does
competitive or individualistic learning environments (Johnson Johnson, 2005). In some studies (Kilic,
2008; Bertucci et al. 2010) students self esteem increased in cooperative situations because students
were involved in cooperative efforts. The findings reported above validate the results of other studies
(Mulryan, 1994; Whicker Nunnery, 1997; Nhu Le, 1999; Vaughan, 2002; Gillies, 2006; Zain,
Subramaniam, Rashid Ghani, 2009; Kose, Sahin, Ergun Gezer, 2010; Le, 2010; Thanh Pham. 2011)
which report that cooperative learning promotes more use of higher level learning skills, more positive
cohesion among participants, higher self esteem in learning and more positive feelings toward the
learning task. In summary, it may be argued that cooperative learning appears to be an effective way to
engage students in the learning

EVANGELISM AND DISCIPLESHIP

Matthew 9:35 38 (NIV) reads, Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their
synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When
he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep
without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask
the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Through the lens of this

The idea of spiritual formation has somehow gotten lost in the shuffle of going to church versus
retaining the understanding that we in fact are the church and we carry within us the knowledge and
the skill to be transformational. The role of evangelism in Christian education is to aid in church
growth and expansion, as well as advancement toward the salvation of souls. Diane J. Hymans
suggests that evangelism and education suggests a variety of meanings and that it is a matter of
language that is clouding what the connotation of the definitions of evangelism, discipleship, and
education are (Hymans). She states that evangelism is making the gospel known in church and world ,
while education invites people to understand and claim their identity as baptized children of God and
to clarify their vocation as people called by God to live lives characterized by love of God and
neighbor (Hymans). Christian education is an intentional process in developing relationship with God
for the purpose of fulfilling the mandate to go and make disciples of all nations, to preach and teach
the good news of the gospel of Christ, and to build the Kingdom of God. In developing and
incorporating evangelism and discipleship into a current Christian education program I believe that
involvement of the entire membership of the congregation should be employed (all age

Research Paper on Mikhail Gorbachev
Mikhail Gorbachev has gained adequate fame because he was the last and the first founding president
of the USSR republic. As a leader, he acted in a new era of history without the need for past
theoretical support. As the first president of USSR, Gorbachev transformed the Soviet Union from
socialism to another political regime. He transitioned the economy of USSR from a planned
centralized economic system towards a free market economy leading to increased competitive trade.
In the history of the Soviet Union, no political leader had dealt with such turmoil. The country was
headed towards an uncertain future. Studies indicate that Gorbachev was essential in both domestic
and global affairs (Gorbachev, 19b).
People across the world have continued to debate and argue about the controversies surrounding his
achievements and roles. In USSR, the populations blamed Gorbachev the economic misery and
collapse of the Soviet Union in the course of adapting to the new free market economy. Therefore,
most populations of the Soviet Union believe that Gorbachev introduced negative governance in
USSR. At the same time, he has been applauded for his role in leading the collapse of the Berlin Wall,
bringing the cold war to a halt and German unification. In my view, Gorbachev has made significant
contributions towards the end war between the west and the east more than any leader

Flaws Of Mrs Dalloway
In Virginia Woolf s novel Mrs. Dalloway, readers follow many character s train of consciences. One of
the main characters is Mrs. Dalloway (also referred to as Clarissa), readers learn that she is as normal
as any other person. She has insecurities, she can be bitter and uptight, she runs errands to get ready
for a party she is having, Clarissa stops and smells the roses (figuratively and literally). Mrs. Dalloway
has her faults as any other person but she also has her quirks and liveliness as any other person does as
well. One of her faults is that she is insecure despite that she is 50 years old, she still feels like the
insecure 18 year old at times. Not that she thought herself clever, or much out of the ordinary. Clarissa

She would not say of any one in the world now that they were this or were that. Readers tend to

not an option humans become indecisive. The brain only holds as much information as it deems
necessary, that excuses being a hypocrite at some points in life. In Mrs. Dalloway Clarissa flashes
back from when she was 18 to how old she is presently at age 51. Of course she is going to be
hypocritical at times. In this passage she is considered a hypocrite because she says, ...she could not
think. but this entire passage is made up purely of her thoughts about herself. A significant portion of
the book is Clarissa s thoughts. Perhaps Clarissa thinks that she cannot think because she does not
believe she is clever. This rounds out the theory that Clarissa is insecure and it prompts the question,

camp for the Jews through a photograph album, he tells what each picture means and what happened
in each picture. They went without being captured first but guards invaded their hometown and

Daniel and his father had to go without seeing his mother or sister for a while, but that changed when
Daniel and his father were forced to march back and forth all the way throughout the camp carrying
heavy supplies of water on their shoulders. Erika was in the band that played and marched along with
them, once they saw her they tried the best they could to see her because the rules were very strict, if
someone stumbled or fallen they were shot instantly. Once Daniel got to speak to Erika they were
informed their mother had died. The burden on Daniel s father s shoulders where big, he started
getting sick and weak and lost himself in the act of grieving but soon realized he had to stay strong for
his family. Soon after the Americans came and rescued the Jews and any others from the concentration
camps and were given food, clothing, and a little bit of money to help them get to where they were
going. So in this story there are a whole lot of historically accurate events, locations, themes, and
more. Take Lodz ghetto in Poland for example. That s where one of the largest Jewish communities
were. The biggest being Warsaw. That was the first stop for their family. Auschwitz was one of the

Markets change, tastes change, so the companies and the individuals who choose to compete in those
markets must change. ( Wang, n.d. as cited by Morrison, p. 113). In modern medicine, disease
treatment is more importance than disease prevention, as doctors focus more on treatment of
symptoms of rather than determining its root cause. This is mirrored in the media by the large numbers

referred in the advertisements, but this does not improve the patient communication, as most of the

Black Communities During The 1960 s
During the 1960 s, there were important events, actions, and organizations that changed the black
communities lives. The 1960 s are an important time period because of the Civil Rights Movement.
During that time period, the black community s were able to vote (Voting Rights of 1965) and the
Civil Rights Act of 1968. Between 1965 and 1968, the Black Panthers Party was created. Huey
Newton and Bobby Seale created the Black Panther Party in Oakland, California in 1966. The Black
Panther Party was original called, The Black Panther Party for Self Defense ; they implemented
Malcolm X philosophy of self defense because during the time The Black Panthers were created there
were high rates of police brutality towards the black community, which meant that Black people were
being killed at random with no reason. Before The Black Panther Party had a name, Newton and Seale

Impact Of Etfs Trading On Underlying Securities
Because price changes in ETFs directly reflect market information and alter investors behaviours and
asset allocation, the underlying security liquidity and volatility should be scrutinized. The third main
strand of academic literature has revealed that the potential impacts of ETFs trading on underlying
securities, and the markets as a whole, is of substantial interest to both investment professionals and
financial academics. There is an extensive amount of research that emphasises the effects on liquidity,
volatility and valuation. In fact, ETFs impact on the quality of underlying securities is not an
unexplored area to theoretical or empirical academics. Existing studies have examined the effects of
ETFs introduction on their underlying indices or composite securities. Subrahmanyam (1991) and
Gorton et al. (1993) established theoretical models to test basket securities , including index linked
securities or index futures contracts (Charupat and Miu, 2013). The models predicted liquidity
migration to component securities and indicated that the level of diversification of a composite
security is positively correlated with its appeal to liquidity traders. The analysis was based on the idea
that component stocks were diversified (with no firm risk), and the liquidity traders, thus, expected
lower losses to informed traders by trading in composite securities rather than in underlying individual
securities. Due to lower transaction costs, basket securities were more

Sports Are A Huge Part Of The World s History
Sports are a huge part of the world s history. Anyone can look in a textbook or on the internet and see
that sports have been played for a long time, whether they be competitive or recreational. Sports bring
people of different beliefs, cultures, and races together. Sports are something that can help people to
forget the problems that are happening in an increasingly scary world. While sports are great and the
athletes that perform for these crowds are dedicated to putting on a show, there are some athletes that
feel they need a competitive edge over the other players to truly shine in some of the greatest
spotlights in the world. These players go on to lead their league in certain statistics in a year, or even
start to work their way up the record books. Not all athletes do this the ethical way however. Some
athletes turn to performance enhancing drugs, otherwise known as PEDs, to help them gain that edge
over the other athletes. There are issues that are occurring regularly in the sporting world due to
athletes taking PEDS. The playing field becomes quite uneven for athletes, on and off the field.
Another issue that arises when PEDs are discussed is whether players should be able to make the
decision for themselves whether to take the performance enhancing drug or not. Lastly, a big issue that
is talked about is whether PEDs are effecting the history of sports and damaging the past players
achievements. How can these issues disappear? The answer is to close the current

What Is The Value Of Life
Throughout our lives we are categorized into social classes, scrutinized and judged by others. With the
constant influences of others and society within our lives, it becomes hard to determine our purpose in
life and how our decisions will not only affect us but those around us. As stated in the bible, Human
life is a sacred essence, bequeathed to those who are made in the very image of the creator himself
(Genesis 1:26 27). The value of life is not determined by the materials that we may contain or social
status. It is what comes from within your heart; rather than being preoccupied about what society

Bomb(Fallout) Shelters In the 1950 s during Dwight D. Eisenhower s presidency which was also the
peak of the Cold War, The Soviet Union s development and testing of WMD s (Atomic, Nuclear and

communism to democratic nations in Europe, this raised tensions with the U.S. which heighten fear
and anxiety of the American public of an imminent nuclear/Atom/H Bomb war between the super
powers. The Federal Civil Defense Administration created by President Harry Truman launched an
aggressive campaign educating the American public especially those in the suburbs on how to survive,
the government believed that cities would be the primary targets and people leaving near needed to
know how to survive. According to an article titled U.S. H Bomb Test Put Lethal Zone at 7,000 Sq

The City Of Quezon City
The history of Quezon City is teeming with hardship. It was originally designed and created as a
utopian planned city to function as the capital of the Philippines, replacing Manila. Due to several
unforeseen circumstances, including World War II and the death of the original designer, the plans
were put on hold. Because of the problems that Quezon City originally faced, it was never fully
implemented and never lived up to its expectation as the capital, but continues to flourish as a cultural,
economic, and educational hub in the Philippines.
Quezon City is located on a fertile plain, with a forest to the north and cities in the other directions.
The center of the city has one main oval, known as Quezon City Circle. Originally intended ... Show

However, after the War, the Filipino planning authority decided to move the University of the
Philippines to the east of the circle. The university campus still has significant green space, parks, and
sports fields. To the north of the circle is the small Arboretum Forest, poorly maintained by the
University of the Philippines, and often occupied by illegal settlements1. The largest manmade park in
the region lies to the east, just outside of the original design for Quezon City. In addition, just to the
north of the city is an undeveloped forest and lake, La Mesa Watershed and Eco Park, which blends
into the mountains even further north. Although not originally planned as part of the city s park
systems, La Mesa very popular and is the largest park in the Quezon City region.2
In 1906, the US Congress commissioned Daniel Burnham to design the new city plan for Manila,
which would have been the first contemporary design for a city in the East, mirroring many aspects of
McMillan s plan for Washington DC. It mimicked the City Beautiful Movement in the West, with
neoclassical architecture. Burnham himself wrote about the chance to create a Eurocentric utopia in
the East, yet still small in area, possessing the bay of Naples, the winding river of Paris, and the canals
of Venice, Manila has before it an opportunity unique in the history of modern times, to create a
unified city equal to the

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed, Joel Spring And Jane Martin s...
Education is referred as the profusion of knowledge that is acquired by an individual when or after
studying specific subject matters or having an experience in life lessons that provides and
understanding of a certain concept. It requires instructions from composed literature or an individual.
Most familiar forms of education result from several years of schooling that integrates studies of
various subjects. Education provides learners with knowledge about the globe. It enables the learners
to acquire good career. It assists in building character of individuals. Education leads to enlightenment
and lays a firm foundation of a strong country. It makes a human being to be complete. Philosophers
urge that the fact that education enriches the individual s understanding of themselves; it is also an
investment and can have a huge impact on a nation s development and growth (Jackson , 2012). This
paper in a wider view will analyze the concept of education following Paulo Freire Pedagogy of the
Oppressed, Joel Spring and Jane Martin s The Educated Person perspectives. It will analyze the
purpose of education according to these three sources.
Pedagogy of the Oppressed remains to be the widely known work of Paulo Freire. The books analyze
the struggle for equity and justice within the educational system and it proposes a new pedagogy. In
regard to education, Paulo Freire argues that words consists a radical interaction between actions and
reflection. He insists that true words

Living in a Utopia Essay
Living in a Utopia This house believes that realised anarchy, as a political idea is the way to create a

Imagine a future utopia of our species: A global community of humanity, which will have overcome
the disunity of its primitive origin. A united human race, without boundaries dividing it against itself,
living harmoniously with itself and with all Nature. A new and truly intelligent species, liberated from

An enlightened and benevolent anarchism, such as expressed by the terms, anarcho pacifism / anarcho
socialism, is, in my view, the only anarchism that can ever work. To arrive at an anarcho pacifist /
anarcho socialist society, we as a global community must undergo great psychological transformation.
Only then can anarchism become a practical ideology for the world.
However, we as individuals need not wait for all humanity to find anarchy before we can have anarchy
for ourselves. We can manifest anarchy within our own circles of being, individually, here and now;
thus becoming individually liberated.
The anarchist truly has the best political deal. Whereas the fascist depends upon a fascist government
to have fascism, the state socialist upon a socialistic government to have socialism, the democrat upon
a democratic government to have democracy, and the libertarian capitalist upon a libertarian
government to have laissez faire capitalism, the anarchist can choose to have anarchy, here and now,
without any government.
Anarchy, the way I see it, is a personal choice, depending on nothing but one s own true will. If one
wants anarchy for oneself, one can have it, regardless of the political system society has. All the
anarchist needs to do

Relationship Between Milk Market Participation Of...
In this paper, we study the relationship between the milk market participation of smallholder
households and women`s intra household bargaining power in Ethiopia. The main objective of
integrating Ethiopian farmers into the market is to increase household income. Our data show that
household income is indeed substantially higher in milk market participating households (101 versus
49 birr daily). This higher income of participating households is almost completely earned by selling
raw milk to the market. The other way of receiving milk income processing raw milk into butter and
cottage cheese for sale at the local market is much less important in market participant households
than in non participant households.
This difference has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an important issue, as previous research (Adeto, 2000; Mahmud, Shah, Becker, 2011) suggests
that women`s share in household income determines their participation in household decision making
and their intra household bargaining power. Moreover, Agarwal (1997), Quisumbing Maluccio, 2000
and Njuki et al. (2011) indicated that income in the hands of women enhances the welfare of
household members more than income in the hands of men. Hence, the income shift from women to
men in market participant households can negatively affect the women`s intra housheold bargaining
power, as well as the other household member`s welfare.
To study the difference in women s bargaining power between spouses from milk market participant
and non participant households, a resource sharing game was conducted. In this game, husbands and
wives were asked to propose an amount of money to be transferred to their partner and to indicate
their expectation regarding the amount their partner would transfer to them. This game revealed
substantial differences in the amounts proposed and expected between milk market participant and
non participant households. Women`s expectations and the amounts actually proposed by their
husbands were significantly higher in market participant compared to non participant households.
Consistently, men`s expectations and the

immune cells from the body, modifying them genetically to fight the cancer, then reinserting them into
the body. This process takes about two to four weeks and has to be done entirely by hand by only
skilled professionals. The issue that has arisen is that the results in leukemias are especially promising,

The Attic Black Figure Column Krater depicts Dionysos the Wine God surrounded by various Satyrs

Dionysos standing center. Dionysos, holding a drinking appeared rather relaxed compared to the
others in the scene, it almost appears as if he was smiling at the Satyrs and Maenads. Ultimately, the
subject matter of the painting on the vase showcases a joyous ritual with Dionysus and his follower
Satyrs and Maenads. The subject matter of this vase infers that the Athenians were a festive people

him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was angry and decided to climb down the pig s chimney.
Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what the pig had in store for him on the other side; a big pot of
scorching water. The pig celebrated his victory by eating the wolf for dinner. Throughout The Story of

The Importance Of Photosynthesis In Plants
Photosynthesis in plants is one of the most important chemical reactions on the planet. Photosynthesis
is a chemical reaction necessary to sustain all forms of life. Only plants, and some very specialized
animals, called autotrophs are able to turn sunlight into usable chemical energy. Autotrophs turn
inorganic molecules into complex organic molecules through solar or chemical energy. Autotrophs
also have the capacity to store energy, such as carbon compounds which can be passed to other
organisms that consume them. Plants are the base of the flow of energy and therefore a primary
producer.(Miller and Levine, 2014) Other organisms can break down the carbon compounds
consumed through plants and release it through respiration to be used again by plants. This is known
as the carbon cycle. But what makes this happen? In an indoor or laboratory setting, what types of
artificial light can be most efficiently used as a substitute for sunlight?
Plants provide the basis for most food chains. Even the energy consumer came from plants at one
point. Photosynthesis is used to store nutrients and other carbon compounds in plants that are also vital
for many other organisms. Photosynthesis mainly occurs in two stages, the light stage, and the dark
stage. These take place in photosystems I and II. These hold chlorophyll molecules and, when
chlorophyll is struck by a photo of light, an electron becomes energized and water molecules bind. (
Updegraff, 2017). Water is split into hydrogen and

Superego Of Sigmund Freud
Sigmund Freud, a renowned psychologist and psychoanalyst, is notably known for creating the idea of
the id, the ego and superego. These three concepts, according to Freud, make up the human psyche
and provide some insight and understanding into how the human mind works. These so called systems
in the brain are in no way physical but together, they make up a whole and contribute towards an
individual s behavior.
The id is described as the primitive component of one s personality as it consists of everything
biologically inherited at birth. This includes one s instincts and sexual desires. The id can be described
as being impulsive and contains all of the drives and hidden urges of an individual. Repressed
memories in the unconscious mind resides in the id. Freud believed that the id, ego and superego
developed at different stages in an individual s life. A newborn child is all id, as it does not have the
morals and social influences that come with the ego and superego. The ego, unlike the id, is partly
conscious and partly unconscious. It serves as the intermediary between the id and the superego as it
makes decisions based on reason, instead of unrealistically and logically (as the id would) or based on
morality and societal influences (as the superego would). The ego would create the realistic ways to
fulfill the id s demands that are impulsive and with little regard to any consequences. Defense
mechanisms exist within the ego due to the fact that it often faces anxiety

existed for quite some time. In the past, underage drinking was considered a miniscule crime, and
wasn t strictly restrained or monitored. As we continued to remain oblivious, numbers of adolescent

Keny A National Leader Of National Unity
Chapter Two
The Kenyan Cases in Perspective
2.1 Background and context
The 2007 general elections in Kenya was a watershed event in the history of the country.
Unprecedented violence broke out in many parts of the country immediately Mwai Kibaki of the Party
of National Unity (PNU) was declared the winner of the presidential poll and sworn in on 30th
December 2007. The violence escalated as the leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Raila
Odinga, immediately rejected the outcome of the poll. Such violence had never occurred in Kenya
before and it had devastating consequences. The violence, commonly referred to as Post Election
Violence (PEV), continued for the next 14 days after Kibaki was declared the winner and according to
the Commission of Inquiry into Post Election Violence report (CIPEV or WAKI report), it led to 1,133
deaths, rape of approximately 3,000 women, severe injuries to 3,561 persons, massive destruction of
both government and private property and displacement of over 300,000 people. Kenya had not
experienced violence of such gravity before as previous ethnic clashes documented by the Akiwumi
Commission which was commissioned in 1998 and the report released in 2002.
Although declaration of Kibaki as the duly elected president is what sparked the violence, Waki report

A story is usually as good as the characters that you encounter while reading. The way a writer reveals
a character is called characterization. One form of characterization is direct characterization. Direct
characterization is when the author tells you directly what characteristics the character has. An
example of this is Bob is smart, brave and honest, . Another form of characterization is indirect
characterization. This is when the author shows the character in action and lets the reader decide what
kinds of people we are meeting. The open Window , by Saki, is a great example of characterization as
the author develops the characters of Nuttel and Vera indirectly through their speech, how they look,

and needles would sway in the wind like bowing Chinese men. I sensed the wind whistling through
the trees, carrying the light, dry snow across my rosy, wind blown cheeks and burrowing between my
neck and shirt collar. In addition, the wind would create beautiful structures of snow, snowdrifts of
every size and shape. Remarkable curves and textures created a landscape like a foreign frozen world.
At this point, the ski trail dwindled to nothing, so we began to break our own trail. After several
demanding hours of trail breaking, we were sweating heavily. The once bone chilling wind had

Noah Webster Essay
Noah Webster
Noah Webster, familiar to most Americans as the writer of the first American dictionary, worked as a
schoolteacher in the late eighteenth century. As he taught, he came to realize that there were some
major problems with the way English was taught in the American schools. The United States of
America had recently declared its independence from England, and was struggling to form its own
identity. The schools were still using textbooks from England, and these books varied in consistency
when it came to spelling, pronunciation and grammar (Short Summary Website). As a teacher, and as a
patriot, Webster felt a need for an American textbook. He wanted consistency and he wanted it to

Although it did not cover a great deal, it laid the foundation for his later dictionaries. It included
distinctly American spellings of words and pronunciations. It also supported Webster s belief in
democracy. By seeking to standardize the learning of language in American classrooms, he was
putting into play a belief that the semantics of a language play a key role in a person s power to create
a system of ideas, thus creating a more educated citizen able to participate in a democratic system
(Noah Webster s American Dictionary Website).
This book was revolutionary not only because it sought to Americanize the classroom, but because of
the tone of the book. Most previous grammars were prescriptive, meaning that they informed the
student how the words should be spoken or spelled. The Blue Backed Speller, on the other hand, was a
descriptive work, meaning that it merely showed how words were actually used and pronounced by
real speakers of the language (Millward 245).
Although the blue backed speller was a great success, it merely provided Webster with a paycheck that
enabled him to compile what would be his greatest work: a complete dictionary of the English
language that was tailored to the speakers of the United States. Webster wanted a dictionary that was
not only easy to use, but wished it to follow the descriptive philosophy that he had begun with his
speller. As a result, he streamlined the spellings of many words (Brett Website),

  • 2. A Vibrant Hippie History Jacqueline N February 10, 2012 AP/ US History Ms. Lombardi Period 5 Colorful Hippies To many it may seem as the glorifying symbol that describes the era of the 1960s, but to others not so much. The Hippies showed a different part of reality to us and to the world, a part that we did not know existed but that caused great harm to us. Hippies were members of a reform movement that was absolutely unnecessary to society. This is due to the reason that it caused the destruction of American principles while causing no positive effect on the nation. The reform movement caused by the Hippies was provoked by certain events that affected the US during the sixties, as well as topics that were of great concern to them, this caused ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It became like a virus, not only was the whole nation being infected by these inappropriate behaviors but some began to follow them and believed it was something right to do. What many did not know was that the American principles were slowly vanishing as this new liberal form of behavior took over very gradually across the nation. Over time Hippies took it to the extreme changing their appearance, food and basic roles of women. For instance, during the Hippie movement Hippie men let their hair grow very long while women went braless and sometimes even shirtless exposing their body to the exterior world(Mortal Journey 1). Moreover despite high schools in the US had strict dress codes, which did not allow girls to wear jeans or any sort of pants, they had to wear skirts even if the weather was extremely cold but the Hippie girls began to wear pants to school to feel more free (Holland 80).Even public restroom signs show the image of a women wearing a skirt to symbolize a womans bathroom, however all this was changing slowly because of the changes caused by the ... Although perhaps not as well known as other Supreme Court cases such, as Marbury v. Madison (which will forever be tattooed on any U.S. History student s brain), it is still a milestone in America s past, one whose repercussions echo to this day. Ingraham v. Wright concluded that corporal punishment in schools was not a violation of a student s constitutional rights, as James Ingraham, a student whose severe punishment necessitated medical attention, had proposed (Oluwole). Forty years since the United States, the same country whose constitution protects its citizen from cruel and unusual punishment, defended physical aggression against children. It s been forty years, and many things have changed: the Iron Curtain fell, Britney Spears had her iconic mental breakdown, and (thankfully) parachute pants went out of style. However, corporal punishment has continued to be practiced in thousands of schools, despite innumerable case studies, experiments, and testimonies that deny its validity. Corporal punishment should stop being practiced in schools because it does not fix behavioral issues and because it leaves lasting physical and emotional scars on a child. It is a relic of a different era, a method that has been tried and that has failed. Why our society continues to implement this unqualified method astonishes not only American citizens, but nations across the world. It was not until the early 1960 s that the impact of the dry land received attention. Known as the Sahel, the region was previously known for its wet arable land. Present day, the Sahel has taken the form of a semi arid dry land that expands over eleven African states: Egypt, Mauritania, Mali, Algeria, Chad, Sudan, Niger, Tunisia, Morocco, and Western Sahara. Desertification, or arable land degradation, has occurred in the Sahel over the past ten thousand years, dating back to the ice age. During the Pre Classical era many ancient civilizations found home at the Nile River Valley. Plentiful monsoon rains permeated the Sahel, but water on the surface of the Sahel has decreased significantly as desertification has inversely increased, leaving only unreachable underground water reservoirs. Stress is put on the Sahel region from services: agriculture, forage, energy, raw materials, etc. Gradually over time the carbon build up in the atmosphere has caused increased water vapor instead of it being recycled into rainwater. Without rain water plants, or autotrophs, cannot perform adequate photosynthesis and carbon fixation, thus carbon build up continues to occur further trapping carbon in the atmosphere and increasing global climate. Studies indicate that Gorbachev was essential in both domestic and global affairs (Gorbachev, 19b). People across the world have continued to debate and argue about the controversies surrounding his achievements and roles. In USSR, the populations blamed Gorbachev the economic misery and collapse of the Soviet Union in the course of adapting to the new free market economy. Therefore, most populations of the Soviet Union believe that Gorbachev introduced negative governance in USSR. Although not originally planned as part of the city s park systems, La Mesa very popular and is the largest park in the Quezon City region.2 In 1906, the US Congress commissioned Daniel Burnham to design the new city plan for Manila, which would have been the first contemporary design for a city in the East, mirroring many aspects of McMillan s plan for Washington DC. It mimicked the City Beautiful Movement in the West, with neoclassical architecture. Education is referred as the profusion of knowledge that is acquired by an individual when or after studying specific subject matters or having an experience in life lessons that provides and understanding of a certain concept. It requires instructions from composed literature or an individual. Most familiar forms of education result from several years of schooling that integrates studies of various subjects. Education provides learners with knowledge about the globe. It enables the learners to acquire good career. It assists in building character of individuals. Education leads to enlightenment and lays a firm foundation of a strong country. It makes a human being to be complete. Philosophers urge that the fact that education enriches the individual s understanding of themselves; it is also an investment and can have a huge impact on a nation s development and growth (Jackson , 2012). This paper in a wider view will analyze the concept of education following Paulo Freire Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Joel Spring and Jane Martin s The Educated Person perspectives. An enlightened and benevolent anarchism, such as expressed by the terms, anarcho pacifism / anarcho socialism, is, in my view, the only anarchism that can ever work. To arrive at an anarcho pacifist / anarcho socialist society, we as a global community must undergo great psychological transformation. Only then can anarchism become a practical ideology for the world. However, we as individuals need not wait for all humanity to find anarchy before we can have anarchy for ourselves. We can manifest anarchy within our own circles of being, individually, here and now; thus becoming individually liberated. The anarchist truly has the best political deal. Whereas the fascist depends upon a fascist government to have fascism, the state socialist upon a socialistic government to have socialism, the democrat upon a democratic government to have democracy, and the libertarian capitalist upon a libertarian government to have laissez faire capitalism, the anarchist can choose to have anarchy, here and now, without any government. In this paper, we study the relationship between the milk market participation of smallholder households and women`s intra household bargaining power in Ethiopia. The main objective of integrating Ethiopian farmers into the market is to increase household income. Our data show that household income is indeed substantially higher in milk market participating households (101 versus 49 birr daily). This is an important issue, as previous research (Adeto, 2000; Mahmud, Shah, Becker, 2011) suggests that women`s share in household income determines their participation in household decision making and their intra household bargaining power. Moreover, Agarwal (1997), Quisumbing Maluccio, 2000 and Njuki et al. (2011) indicated that income in the hands of women enhances the welfare of household members more than income in the hands of men. Hence, the income shift from women to men in market participant households can negatively affect the women`s intra housheold bargaining power, as well as the other household member`s welfare. To study the difference in women s bargaining power between spouses from milk market participant and non participant households, a resource sharing game was conducted. • 32. The Importance Of Photosynthesis In Plants Photosynthesis in plants is one of the most important chemical reactions on the planet. Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction necessary to sustain all forms of life. Only plants, and some very specialized animals, called autotrophs are able to turn sunlight into usable chemical energy. Autotrophs turn inorganic molecules into complex organic molecules through solar or chemical energy. Autotrophs also have the capacity to store energy, such as carbon compounds which can be passed to other organisms that consume them. Plants are the base of the flow of energy and therefore a primary producer.(Miller and Levine, 2014) Other organisms can break down the carbon compounds consumed through plants and release it through respiration to be used again by plants. This is known as the carbon cycle. But what makes this happen? In an indoor or laboratory setting, what types of artificial light can be most efficiently used as a substitute for sunlight? Plants provide the basis for most food chains. Even the energy consumer came from plants at one point. Photosynthesis is used to store nutrients and other carbon compounds in plants that are also vital for many other organisms. Photosynthesis mainly occurs in two stages, the light stage, and the dark stage. These take place in photosystems I and II. These hold chlorophyll molecules and, when chlorophyll is struck by a photo of light, an electron becomes energized and water molecules bind. ( Updegraff, 2017). Water is split into hydrogen and ... These three concepts, according to Freud, make up the human psyche and provide some insight and understanding into how the human mind works. These so called systems in the brain are in no way physical but together, they make up a whole and contribute towards an individual s behavior. The id is described as the primitive component of one s personality as it consists of everything biologically inherited at birth. This includes one s instincts and sexual desires. The id can be described as being impulsive and contains all of the drives and hidden urges of an individual. Repressed memories in the unconscious mind resides in the id. Freud believed that the id, ego and superego developed at different stages in an individual s life. A newborn child is all id, as it does not have the morals and social influences that come with the ego and superego. The ego, unlike the id, is partly conscious and partly unconscious. It serves as the intermediary between the id and the superego as it makes decisions based on reason, instead of unrealistically and logically (as the id would) or based on morality and societal influences (as the superego would). This book was revolutionary not only because it sought to Americanize the classroom, but because of the tone of the book. Most previous grammars were prescriptive, meaning that they informed the student how the words should be spoken or spelled. The Blue Backed Speller, on the other hand, was a descriptive work, meaning that it merely showed how words were actually used and pronounced by real speakers of the language (Millward 245).
