The Frayer Model is a categorization strategy that helps students understand new concepts by having them provide a definition, characteristics, and examples and non-examples of a given concept. It provides students an opportunity to explain their understanding of a concept and elaborate on it by giving examples and non-examples from their own experience. To use it, a teacher assigns a concept, explains the Frayer model diagram, has students read about the concept, and identify examples and non-examples from the text to fill in the diagram.
