“IN SUBURBIA”
FADE IN:
INT. LOCATION #4: HOUSE – DAY
VIOLET stares past the camera, frozen solid but still managing to
shake.
Camera focuses behind her which reveals a man standing there, head
just out of shot.
FADES TO BLACK
FADE IN:
EXT. LOCATION 2: STREET – DAY
VIOLET walks around the corner of the path
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
Nothing interesting happens here anymore.
I left school; it was shit. Now I just wander
around, not really doing anything, because nothing
ever happens.
EXT. LOCATION 4: HOUSE – DAY
VIOLET stops in front of the house, she turns to look at it,
frowning.
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
If something were to happen, it would definitely
be with this house. There’s something just… off
about it. Maybe it’s just my mind trying to make
this place interesting, but it just feels weird.
NEIGHBOUR peeks through the window, and gives a big smile and wave.
VIOLET glares, and frowns even harder
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
There’s definitely something wrong with him.
Looks like he’s probably on a register or
growing weed in his roof or something.
VIOLET moves on, walking down the street some more
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
That place is in my mind more than I care to
admit. It’s completely normal in every way
yet it stands out so much. I reckon thinking
about what could be wrong with it is the
VIOLET (IN HEAD) (CONT’D)
only thing keeping me sane here. If I didn’t
I’d probably be a mindless zombie like everyone
else here, except younger, and with an ability
to walk without help from a stick or carer.
EXT. LOCATION #3: FOREST – DAY
VIOLET walks through the woods, looking visibly more at peace
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
The forest here is nice. It’s the only way
I can be alone with my thoughts, without
weird zombie people staring at me. Going here
every day just makes me feel less trapped
As VIOLET says this last line the scene transitions to the next day,
shown by different clothes.
EXT. LOCATION #3: FOREST – DAY
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
However nice it may be, I still couldn’t spend
More than a couple of hours here. Mum says I
get bored easily, but she doesn’t realise that
everything is just fucking miserable.
She walks to the edge of the forest to leave.
EXT. LOCATION #1: STREET – DAY
VIOLET is walking quickly, visibly bothered.
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
I don’t know how long I can take all this anymore
Every day I’m doing the same thing, it felt
Freeing but now I’m trapped in this weird cycle
and I feel less free than before, maybe this
is why people tell you to stay in school.
She stops and looks at the house. The window is empty.
VIOLET (IN HEAD)
I need to do something different, something
that will make me feel a different emotion
to tired and bored. It’s not like I don’t
know it’s wrong, but at this point, I don’t
really care.
She starts walking towards the house, and slowly puts her hand on
the door handle, shaking slightly as she does it. She looks in
surprise as the door handle lowers, as if she didn’t expect it to be
unlocked
INT. LOCATION #4: HOUSE – DAY
She slowly sticks her head around the door, taking in her
surroundings. It opens slowly and she walks through the hallway,
brushing her hand against the wall as she walks, looking at where
framed pictures used to be
She walks into a room, that appears to be normal in every way. As
nervously, she looks behind her, then continues moving. Once she’s
in, she freezes. A man appears behind her, now VIOLET is shaking.
VIOLET
I’m sorry
VIOLET is still looking at the wall. NEIGHBOUR slowly walks towards
her, saying nothing.
VIOLET
It was an accident; it won’t happen again
I Promise.
She slowly turns around to see him standing right behind her, and
she slowly looks up. She crawls underneath NEIGHBOUR’s legs to try
and get away, only to be pulled back.
SUDDEN DARKNESS
THE END
