EXT. TRAIN STATION. NIGHT
X walks out of a train station carrying a heavy bag over
his shoulder.he is a relatively tall male, dark features,
quite good looking. He is looking at his phone as he
walks, confused, obviously lost. His phone buzzes. It
reads: "I can't wait to see you! xxx" X smiles to
himself, switches his apps to Maps and then starts to try
and navigate himself.
INT. HALLWAY. NIGHT
X walks into the doorway. X is looks tired and
frustrated, like he has been walking around aimlessly for
a long time.
INT.FLAT LOUNGE ROOM. NIGHT
Y, a relatively tall, pretty woman wearing a black
cocktail dress is rushing around the flat, catering to a
group of people wearing formal clothing.people are
picking up canapés off a tray, champagne from a table,
people are laughing and conversing as a doorbell rings in
the background. At first, Y doesn't acknowledge the
doorbell ringing, and then finally looks up and goes over
to the door, looking preoccupied.
INT. HALLWAY. NIGHT
X is standing in the hallway with his finger on the
doorbell holding it down as he looks as he presses his
phone to his ear, calling Y. The door suddenly opens and
Y is standing in the doorway,still looking distracted. X
hangs up his mobile and smiles at Y, Y smiles back and
hugs him tightly, blocking X's kiss. X looks a bit
disappointed as Y pulls away from the hug.
X: is there something i missed?
why are you so dressed up?
Y: Sorry, I didn't tell you, I
thought I would invite a couple
of friends over so you can
finally meet them! It will be
fun!
X looks a bit annoyed as he is not prepared
X: I didn't bring a suit
Y: It doesn't matter, come on,
they won't mind!

Y drags X into the flat by the hand.
INT. FLAT LOUNGE ROOM. NIGHT
It is a P.O.V shot as X walks through the lounge room. X
looks at the people around them as he walks towards the
bedroom. Various strangers dressed up in formal clothing
look at him critically, up and down like he is a piece of
shit at the bottom of their shoe. Then, they ignore him,
turning away and continuing to drink champagne. He
follows Y into the darkness of her bedroom.
INT. FLAT BEDROOM. NIGHT
X enters the bedroom. Y smiles at him
Y: Sorry, I'll let you get your
stuff sorted then come out and
say hello, yea?
X smiles awkwardly, nodding. Y leaves the room, closing
the door behind him. He looks around. He looks visibly
disappointed at the intrusion of her friends. There is
now a focus on individual elements in the room. X first
notices party clothes heaped in piles on the floor, with
open textbooks lying next to them. Then X starts to focus
on various photos littered around her room, all of her
new friends. X looks confused and hurt, he cannot see a
single photo of them together. He places his bag on the
floor, and sits on the bed, feeling deflated. He turns to
the bedside table, and notices a tiny wallet sized Photo
Booth photo of the couple together. It is the only photo
of the couple in the room.
INT. FLAT LOUNGE ROOM. NIGHT
X walks into the lounge room, a room full of people.
Various snippets of conversation can be heard as the
camera follows X around the room, trying to socialise.
Random person 1: I think the NHS
is a sham, the only people its
providing care for is the
addicts , disabled and the old,
and do they pay taxes? hahaha
Random person 2: I totally agree
old chap, by the way, have you
seen the new Flambé exhibition?
Oh my, it's absolutely divine!
How they got all of those dead
fox carcasses into the gallery, I
have no idea, but it's absolutely

X raises his eyebrows at Y's strange friend's
conversation. He is getting the impression that these
people should be 50 years old at a gallery opening,
rather than first year university students at a party.X
is getting increasingly confused. X is standing on the
outside of this conversation. The sound becomes
increasingly muffled as he looks around (P.O.V) shot,he
feels increasingly disconnected from the world and his
girlfriend, who he sees laughing and getting close to a
random guy in a suit.
Suddenly, one of the Random people suddenly starts
speaking to X, but the sound is still muted, he is
distracted, looking at him but not hearing the words.
Suddenly, the sound rushes back and he can hear the
Random person speaking.
X: Sorry, what?
Random person: I said, you're the
guy, aren't you?
X: Ugh, what guy?
Random person: You're her
boyfriend, the one visiting?
X: Yea, I'm her boyfriend
Random Person: She hasn't really
mentioned you much, but I saw her
texting you the other day, so I
assume it's you.
X: Oh, okay.
Random person:You're
interesting...
X: Um, thanks...
The random person laughs and walks away, leaving X on his
own. The other person looks him up and down and then
walks away as well.
INT. FLAT LOUNGE ROOM. NIGHT
X is wandering around the flat and kitchen, looking at Y
while she is drawn into different conversations. Every
time X makes eye contact with Y, she smiles, but is
suddenly swept up in yet another conversation with
another pretentious person. As X tries and walks slowly
towards Y, his attention is distracted by a drinks table
peeking out of the corner of the kitchen doorway. X walks
eagerly towards this shrine.

INT. DRINKS TABLE. NIGHT
It looks like X has drunk a few drinks now. Empty cups
lie next to his hand as he looks at the various liquor
bottles like they're his best friends. As he pours
himself another drink, the audio of more pretentious
conversation is heard:
Random person 3: Shoes made of
your pets ashes!
Random person 4: Revolutionary!
Random person 5: Those bloody
fresher's stumbling round the
place like drunks!
Random person 6: I will never
consider myself a fresher,20th
century smoker's lounges are the
place to be in your first weekend
of university
Random person 5: Absolutely!
X pours himself another shot and downs it.
INT. FLAT LOUNGE ROOM. NIGHT
X is visibly drunk as he sits on the couch, sandwiched by
two pretentious looking people. They are leaning over him
rudely as they speak of more pretentious, useless
matters. The audio of this ridiculous conversation gets
louder and louder, and X is getting increasingly pissed
off, until, at the climax of noise and focus on his face,
he leaps up into the air, pushing the two people out the
way
X: Are you all serious about what
you're speaking about?
The room suddenly goes silent. Various shots of people
stopping their conversations to look up at X rudely
interrupting their 'ever so interesting' conversation. X
continues.
X: You are actually interested in
all this artsy fartsy political
bullshit? We're 18! We're
supposed to be getting shit-faced
and sleeping with everyone and
sleeping all weekend, not
thinking up the next solution to
world hunger, or how whoever-the-
fuck-her-name-is's exhibition on
eating and regurgitating animal's

foetus's is 'interesting' or
something. What the fuck? It's
bullshit, all of it!
They all look up at X in silence. It cuts to Y,
mortified. X looks embarrassed and slowly sits down, and
everyone tentatively begins to speak again and the scene
returns to normal, with X and Y looking at each other, X
looking apologetic, and Y glaring at him, before turning
to someone beside her and continuing to talk.
INT. EMPTY FLAT KITCHEN. NIGHT.
The party is now over, and X and Y and clearing up
dishes, there's an awkward silence while the 'clang!' of
plates are heard. The silence goes on longer than
necessary, and then Y breaks the silence.
Y: Why did you have to do that?
X: Do what?
Y: In front of everyone. Make
that horrendous speech about
everything they speak about being
bullshit
X:I can't believe you hang out
with those people Y, they're
nothing like you
Y ignores that remark while she begins to wash up.
X (continues) You were never like
that before you left. You didn't
give two shits about crazy arty
people and tearing down politics.
You were so much more...
Y: Simple? Is that what you're
trying to say? Well maybe I'm not
that young girl any more. Isn't
university supposed to develop
you as a person? Make you into an
adult? You don't understand
because you never even tried
going to uni...
X:Well, if university is going to
turn me into one of those
assholes at this stupid party,
maybe I'm glad I didn't go to
uni!

7. 7CONTINUED:
Y: They're my friends! They make
me happy!
X:You've known them for two
minutes! You've been with me for
5 years! I know you better than
they ever will, can't you see
that? Am I too simple for you
now, is that it?
X: No...no...I don't know...
Y turns away,X stands there in shock.
X: Is that it Y ? Am I too
stupid now? Are you hoping that
we'll just finish so you can jump
off into the sunset with some
pretentious twat? Is that what
you want? Y answer me!
Y: I don't know!
They continue to look at each other in silence. The room
feels massive, with the two characters avoiding contact
in this tense moment.
