Jack Bevens proposes creating his first comedy silent film called "Flirt!" to develop his skills in a new genre. He will explore slapstick comedy through scenarios of couples competitively showing affection. Some planned physical comedy includes slapping, kicking, hair pulling and falling. Research on silent films and slapstick will help him learn techniques while avoiding injuries. He will seek actors for melodramatic and exaggerated performances. Feedback from audiences on YouTube will help Jack evaluate and improve his filmmaking skills going forward.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Project proposal title and date:
Flirt! June 2020
Main area of activity:
Film
Rationale:
I made two horror films over the last two years. In the beginning, I had no idea how to use filming
equipment and software for editing. During the last two years, these skills have developed. Now I
will create a comedy silent film because I would like to move on to a different genre. This comedy
film will be my first. I decided to create a comedy silent film because this is easy for me to use
body language and facial expression to understand communication without any dialogue. This is
because I am Deaf and I have excellent body language and facial expressions, as part of my
language which is British Sign Language. So, I like comedy silent films because my characters will
be melodramatic and use slapstick comedy stunts.
Project Concept:
My idea will be talking about two couples versus each other fo has the best relationship and the
best looking. Two couples sitting on the bench at the park. They look at each other and they’re
trying to impress each other by good looking, flowers, chocolate, card and some presents. They
are becoming more jealous and they will end up to fighting each other with hilarious melodramatic
and slapstick behaviour. At the end, one of the two couples win and walks away from the other
couple who are grumpy and muttering.
List of slapstick:
• Slap the face
• Punch the face
• Kicking leg
• Stomp on foot
• Falling over
• Pulling hair
• Bite finger
These are all my idea to use slapstick in my film. I will be experimenting with slapstick for because
I need to learn how to avoid an injury. Slapstick can cause a risk of injury.
One thing that is important is that my actors must be good acting because I need melodramatic
and slapstick acting, big, wilder and over the top. So, I need to find out how I can ask some actors
from performing arts or ask my Deaf friends because of easy communication. I might ask theatre
groups in York. I will research on the web for find information about theatre groups. I love
melodramatic acting because that makes me feel more energetic, with lots of action

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will send my comedy film to YouTube or Facebook because I want to get feedback from my
audience. Feedback will help me to understand how to improve my filmmaking in the future.
I will be writing in my development diaries to explain what exactly I am doing. That will help me to
review and develop my research, planning, pre-production and post-production. I need to become
more confident asking some hearing actors because in the future I will need to work with hearing
actors. Also, I want more practice with equipment and software to continue to develop my skills.
