Kian Devine proposes creating a psychological horror film trailer and marketing materials for a movie exploring isolation, inner turmoil, and mental health during a pandemic lockdown. The film will focus on a single protagonist and his deteriorating mental state as he battles his inner thoughts alone in his home. Devine will conduct research on successful psychological films and apply techniques like establishing tone and translating emotions to viewers' perspectives. He will spend time on pre-production, production of the trailer and marketing assets, evaluation of his work and skills, and presentation of the final project.

Project proposal title and date:
I am yet to decide on the final title of my movie, yet a singular word like “Mirror” or
“hallucinate” to go with the psychedelic aspect of my film.
Main area of activity:
My main area of activity will be film as I plan on making a movie trailer, but I will also create
marketing so print and graphic design work will also be quite prominent.
Rationale:
Throughout the past two years my work has significantly got better as I understand each
project at a deeper level. The main difference is the type of practical I did, as I thought that
since I enjoyed playing video games, Id enjoy making them too. This was not the case and I
realised that film was my true passion so that’s were I focussed my efforts. My skills with
premiere pro have become sufficient enough for me to rely on my current skills to get me
through my practical, as I have used premiere pro for almost all previous projects and did
many experimental techniquesthat I can apply to this project if needed. My knowledge with
film is also far superior to that of my knowledge for video games, as I understand many
techniques used within film but more importantly, I know the effect it has on the audience.
Since most of my scenes are rather basic, post production is where I will most of my time
to try and create an overarching tone for my movie. An issue with most of my past projects
is that they had no substance or point to it. The difference with this project is that I
understand what I want to achieve with it.
Project Concept:
the concept for my project is to make a concept for a film that focuses on everyone's inner contrast
and their own personal flaws. I want to make my protagonist almost an antagonist due to his
reaction to certain situations, but showing him in a realistic light will help to make the viewer have
more sympathy for him just like in Joker (2019). The film I'm making revolves around a singular
character and has very little sighting of other characters with him. The feeling of isolation and
claustrophobia is centre for the atmosphere I am trying to create. The film will see him battle his
inner thoughts while in self isolation for a pandemic that is sweeping the nation. While stuck in his
house, he is also stuck with his own thoughts and mental well being, leaving himself trapped within
his own mindset and seeing how it affects his day to day life. the narrative will slowly dissolve and
will leave the viewer questioning what has happened and making some of the events have a factor
of disbelief which makes plot twists far more impactful and more unsuspecting. I will be
researching past films that I have enjoyed within the psychological genre to get a greater
understanding of how emotions and mindset are translated within scenes. This is crucial for this
genre as getting the audience into the characters POV helps to elevate all emotions felt within the
story. scene layout is also important to look at as having multiple points of interests within a film
helps to branch out the story so having different sub plots will help to flesh out the narrative.

How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
Evaluating my work will be difficult due to its subjective nature, but getting other peoples opinions
and take on it would help give me a better view on if the intended effects were implemented well.
the people watching and reviewing would also be part of my target audience so i would get a
greater understanding of if my films research was worth-while for my production. mainly i will be
evaluating my skills with the equipment and software i will be using, instead of the creative side of
my project as i believe that my skills used are far more important long term. because of my lack of
experience with both the software and the equipment, i will have to rely on tests and research to
guide me in the right direction and getting feedback and comparing it to projects of similar genre
will show me areas of improvement. looking at my skills this way allows me to focus on areas of
weakness and gradually making my skills more well rounded, with still allowing me to have
strengths in certain areas that my interest is stronger in.

be detrimental to my production if not taken care
of such as camera work and software work.
5 Pre-production ● Experiments
● do experiments on experimental work that are
spontaneously thought of such as certain scene
layouts or lighting layouts. this will let me know
what works and what doesnt
6 Pre-production ● Pre-Production and planning
● get every bit of equipment understood and tested
with before production so that i am confident
when going to into production
7 Pre-production ● Pre-Production and planning
